[[folder:Amy]]
!!Amelia "Amy" Sosa (formerly Dubanowski)
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ss_amy.png]]
-->'''Played by:''' Creator/AmericaFerrera

Cloud 9's weary and beleaguered floor manager, in charge of handling assignments of sales associates on a day-to-day basis. As of the beginning of the series, she has been working at Cloud 9 for ten years.

----
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Tries so, so hard to avert this for her daughter, Emma. Unfortunately, as Amy learns time and again, Emma's a teenager, which means YouCantFightFate.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Amy is canonically interested in men, and her adoration of Missy in "Olympics" seems a lot like a crush. There's also her reaction to Dina's [[SexyWhateverOutfit Halloween costume]].
-->'''Amy:''' "We all think she looks hot, okay?"
* BelligerentSexualTension:
** Her dynamic with Jonah evolves into this over time, and it doesn't help that many employees think the following...
---> '''Garrett''': Can you two be adults and have an affair already?\
'''Mateo''': Oh my GOD, just BANG ALREADY.
** Culminates with Amy and Jonah [[spoiler: finally having sex in a backroom of the store in the season 3 finale, "Town Hall". Except, unbeknownst to them, a camera broadcasting to ALL Cloud Nine stores across the globe films them doing it.]]
* BackToSchool: Amy is taking college classes. This isn't mentioned much by season 3.
* BerserkButton: Amy tends to overreact when she’s called the responsible one.
* CoolBigSis: She tries to be this for Cheyenne, whom Amy sees herself in -- thus, Amy tries to motivate her and steer her in the right direction. Cheyenne's mother even points out that there's maternal influence thrown in there too.
* ControlFreak: Due to years of wrangling coworkers, Amy can't help but try to take charge in a situation. Sometimes this comes in handy (like when Sandra's wedding begins to fall apart), other times it causes boundary problems (like when she swears up and down not to interfere with her brother and Mateo but does so very obnoxiously anyway).
* DeadpanSnarker: Most especially with Jonah, but known for this by all the employees as a whole.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Amy's characterization tends to vary a lot. She can be a DeadpanSnarker OnlySaneMan (especially in the early years of the show or as a more pragmatic foil against the more idealistic Jonah), book smart but socially awkward, or a near-manic TeamMom.
* DifferentInEveryEpisode: Wears a different name-tag every episode, because she doesn't like people she doesn't know using her name.
* EasilyOverheardConversation: Amy and Mateo have a secret conversation about Jeff being in a secret relationship with Mateo and that Sandra's claims to dating Jeff are entirely fictional. Sarah is barely five feet away and immediately shares the gossip with the rest of the staff.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Her crush on Jonah before they date. Everyone picks up on the tension in the first two seasons, and in season 3, her coworkers peg her dislike of Kelly to Jonah dating her. It is implied that they are correct.
* ExtremeDoormat: Her tendency to selflessly take charge means she also doesn't value her work as much as it's worth, for example, often doing Glenn's job for him. Part of the series is her overcoming this.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Played with; by the start of the series, Amy has been working for Cloud 9 for ten years but is only a floor manager. This doesn't (technically) give her much authority, but it's clear that everyone respects her, which is what counts. This is subverted by the end of season 5, '''big-time.'''
* HollywoodHomely: Numerous characters remark that Amy is average at best, despite being played by the gorgeous America Ferrera.
* OnlySaneWoman: At times, but occasionally is eccentric enough to fall into the same weirdness that her coworkers do. As the result of her divorce in season 3, she has steadily been slipping away from this trope.
* PutOnABus: At the end of the fifth season, [[spoiler:she is offered a corporate job at Zephra... all the way in California. She leaves in the second episode of season six.]] She returns in Season 6's last two episodes.
* TheReliableOne: Considered the most levelheaded and responsible of the main cast.
* RagsToRiches: A modern working example. She goes from a floor manager who barely makes enough to keep her family afloat to [[spoiler:a well-paid store manager before receiving an ''extremely'' cushy job offer to work as a Director of Customer Experience at the parent company.]]
* SitcomCharacterArchetypes: The Stick, as the one who tries to keep things on track and reacts with exasperation to the others' antics.
* SpicyLatina: She is usually an aversion, but she invokes this in "California, Part 1" by playing up her Honduran heritage (including putting on the accent, referencing ''la cultura'', and acting more vivacious) during a job interview when she realizes all the other candidates are also Latina.
* SomebodyDoesntLoveRaymond: Amy is a chronic people-pleaser who can't handle the idea of not having someone's approval. She'll either try to weasel out of upsetting someone, or work herself into a tizzy trying to "correct" the trait people have a problem with.
* TeamMom: This partly arose due to her being a mother, as she was just as irresponsible as Cheyenne when she was younger, apparently.
* TeenPregnancy: Her marriage is the result of one.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Downplayed and ultimately adverted since she's still the same person, but in season 4 she [[spoiler:becomes the new manager. As a result she takes on an initially subtle role of an antagonist as she starts to see how different it is to be a manager and how her new responsibilities put her at odds with the workers that were once her friends. While she's not actively malicious or selfish like many other managers, she very quickly starts to enjoy the perks of being a manager compared to a worker. This reaches it's natural conclusion where, in contrast to previous seasons, she takes a firm stance against unionization in the season finale. While motivated by good reasons since the talk about unions places the store in risk of being shut down, Jonah is quick to note how she doesn't see how what she's doing (breaking up union meeting and asking for names of people most interested in unions) were bad and that she consistently mentions how she's not willing to risk her job. However when corporate sends ICE to check for immigration and she learns that Mateo's undocumented she immediately leaps to try and help him, even telling Jonah that she doesn't care what corporate would think if they found out.]]
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: When she builds confidence in later episodes, she gives some to people (namely: Laurie, Jonah's parents, and Jonah's brother).
* WillTheyOrWontThey: With Jonah throughout the entire show. [[spoiler:It seems like [[RelationshipUpgrade they do starting in the Season 3 finale]], but turns out TheyDont in the Season 6 premiere after their breakup. However, in the finale, They Do.]]

[[folder:Jonah]]
!!Jonah Simms
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ss_jonah.png]]
-->'''Played by:''' Creator/BenFeldman

One of Cloud 9’s newest employees at the start of the series, Jonah is an overly politically correct business school dropout who comes from a very rich background and immediately develops a rapport with Amy.

----
* ApologizesALot: As a result of [[DiggingYourselfDeeper his habit of wanting to resolve conflicts but falling all over himself]], he's constantly apologizing and self-deprecating.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: How's Glenn views Jonah, right from the second episode.
-->'''Glenn:''' I've been here twenty years, you've been here two months and you already have better ideas than me.
* AmbiguouslyJewish: Before the second season, when his religion is revealed to be Judaism, Garrett makes one joke about it.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Many employees see his sexual tension with Amy with how often they argue.
* BourgeoisBohemian: He's the leftist son of two psychologists who cares a lot about social and political issues. The other employees constantly give him shit for it, Garrett especially.
* BreakTheCutie: Season 6 is one long one for Jonah. His breakup with Amy, coupled with dealing with the failure of getting a union started, along with dealing with the fact that he's likely stuck in a dead end job with no prospects for a decent future all weigh heavily on him. It's even acknowledged in the finale that Amy's departure was a massive blow to him emotionally that he still hasn't fully recovered from.
* ButtMonkey: Usually Jonah is the butt of many jokes due to his behaviour. Season 6 takes it up a notch where every single episode is hell-bent on punishing Jonah for every little thing he does and gets no sympathy from his co-workers. Hell, one episode had him get chewed out by '''Sandra''' of all people.
* ADegreeInUseless: He graduated from college before going to an MBA program, but it's never clear what his undergraduate degree was in. Whatever it was, it obviously couldn't get him a job.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: The reason he wound up at Cloud 9 in the first place; he'd just dropped out of business school and had no clue what to do next, so he literally applied on a whim. The series finale shows that [[spoiler:he finally came up with something he wants out of life - ''running for city council.'']]
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: He occasionally has (or acts on) what he thinks are good ideas, often based on his socialist principles, only to end up in trouble when they blow up in his face. The health fund he and Amy create falls apart when they realize they've inadvertently created a pyramid scheme, but only after committing to pay several thousand dollars in medical fees.
* DiggingYourselfDeeper: Jonah's worst habit, and one of the main sources of CringeComedy in the series. He's constantly trying to make a situation better either on an interpersonal level or from a larger social justice standpoint, and either way, he's constantly stammering and falling all over himself in doing so, often just making the situation worse.
* DoesntLikeGuns: Morally against guns and the fact that Cloud 9 sells them. His one shift at the gun counter, in season 2's "Guns, Pills & Birds," is predictably a disaster.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Jonah's crush on Amy is painfully obvious to the other employees, and during Cheyenne's wedding they purposefully have to downplay their closeness in front of their significant others.
* FatalFlaw: The one thing Jonah can't handle is the thought that someone doesn't like him based on his personality, and if he thinks that's at risk of happening, he will do ''anything'' to prevent it, to the point of grabbing the IdiotBall. This leads to many of the show's plots major and minor. A mild example being when he tries to prove he's "just a regular dude" to the warehouse crew by chugging a bottle of ranch dressing, completely without their soliciting.
* FreudianExcuse: It's shown that his parents are very stuffy and unempathetic, and his older brother is a full-on arrogant, lying douchebag who constantly puts him down. This helps us understand where his people pleaser and chronic crises tendencies come from.
* TheGamblingAddict: In "Seasonal Help" he mentions his past trouble with gambling when offered a bet, which spirals out of control soon after. It comes up occasionally and is PlayedForLaughs.
* HiddenDepths: The reason why Jonah is working at Cloud 9 is that he burnt himself out at business school to the point of dehydration and ended up in the hospital. His working at Cloud 9 is his way of taking time for himself to slow down.
* IChooseToStay: [[spoiler:In the finale, Jonah admits to Amy that she was the reason why he stayed at Cloud 9 despite having every reason to do better things.]]
* InformedJudaism: The fact that Jonah is Jewish is sprinkled in dialogue throughout the series, but never impacts the plot.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Doesn’t realize he’s talking to the floor manager in the first episode and accidentally insults her within the first ten seconds of opening his mouth by implying he’s too good to work at Cloud 9... This habit of his isn’t uncommon throughout the rest of the show.
* LiarRevealed: In season 4, his parents visit, and it turns out that he's been lying to them about having been attending medical school for the last three years. [[InelegantBlubbering They're not the type to take it well.]]
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: GenderInvertedTrope. Dina says Jonah wants to be this for everyone.
* MistakenForGay: It happens several times.
** Garrett thinks he's gay when they first meet.
** Amy's husband Adam thought he was gay at first and thought Jonah was trying to make sexual advances towards him instead of trying to sell him things to win the Color War (what he was really doing).
** Some customers overheard him trying to pressure Mateo into marrying him and give him applause when Mateo accepts, when he was really just trying to help Mateo get a green card or become a citizen.
* MistakenForPedophile: Due to his OpenMouthInsertFoot tendencies, he also has his moments of this. For example, in "Quinceañera," he explains that he's not 15-year-old Emma's father, but "her boyfriend." An awkward beat ensues before Jonah realizes that he needs to clarify he's ''Amy's'' boyfriend, not Emma's.
* MistakenForRacist: He's quite a lot of "Mistaken"s due to his aforementioned habit of being InnocentlyInsensitive and putting his foot in his mouth. In a game of [[ItMakesSenseInContext scanner tag]], he puts all the white people (Team Soup, led by himself) in a team against all the people of color participating (Team Yogurt). Although the division by race is unintentional, mixed-race Cheyenne {{Lampshades}} it when she's put in Team Yogurt. Myrtle even asks him to go for a group dinner with the "other white people" at the end of the episode.
* NiceGuy: Jonah is nice to a fault and almost everything he says or does appears to be for the benefit of someone else, even if the situation never turns out the way he expects it to.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Jonah tries to help where he can... which gets him more trouble than reward more often than not. One episode features Jonah trying to help the store pharmacist, only to have literally ALL the pharmacist’s jobs passed on to him for the day.
* OpenMouthInsertFoot: Many times.
** Manages it within the first few minutes of the first episode by not realizing he's offended his floor manager, Amy, within the first few minutes of this job.
** He calls Amy sexy after having a few drinks. This hilariously results in more instances of this in the NEXT episode where he attempts to rectify his mistake by using the word sexy in increasingly inappropriate situations to justify casual use of the word.
** During the entirety of Emma's Quinceañera, he gets into worse and worse situations because of this.
* PrettyBoy: He's a pretty young man with white skin and black hair of the RavenHairIvorySkin appeal. His appearance is often commented upon, so it gets Lampshaded on numerous occasions. Jonah gets likened to a male Tinker Bell; he's said to have geisha features; he's supposed to look like an elf; or what the baby of a panda and a Disney princess would look like; and apparently, he's a fancy little porcelain doll-man.
* SecretlySelfish: Although there's certainly an honest desire to help in his projects, Jonah loves the adulation he expects to get from them.
* SitcomCharacterArchetypes: The Dork, as much of the humor surrounding Jonah is how uppity and awkward he is, and how his hobbies are inaccessible to the other characters. Also, some shades of the Square, as he is often baffled at the goings-on.
* ShelteredAristocrat: His very, very obviously sheltered background is prominent. It partly comes from his paranoid parents, made apparent when Amy meets them. This is often PlayedForLaughs.
* SoapboxSadie: A male example. Jonah is passionate about social justice and will often act in service of a cause, even if other characters make fun of him for it.
* {{Spoiled Sweet}}: Jonah is an {{Innocently Insensitive}} guy from a rich background who has clearly been sheltered and spoiled by his parents.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: When Cheyenne informs him of what the others think of the blatant attraction between him and Amy, he launches a string of badly improvised denials for her to hear. He wasn’t very convincing.
* TheLoad: One of the show's favourite running jokes about Jonah is that he's barely competent at doing his actual job compared to the rest of the main cast.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Garrett. They're frequently ribbing each other and get on each other's nerves when they become roommates, but it's clear that they care deeply about each other despite that.
* WellDoneSonGuy: As revealed in "New Initiative," he's afraid of disappointing his parents by not having a high-paying job, so he lies to them about attending medical school instead of working at Cloud 9. He also claims he's dating Creator/NataliePortman. They don't take it very well when the truth comes out, but ultimately do accept it.

[[folder:Dina]]
!!Dina Fox
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ss_dina.png]]
-->'''Played by:''' Creator/LaurenAsh

The oddly serious, drill-instructor-like assistant manager.

----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Subverted. While Jonah is put off by her attentions, she also largely misread their interactions and backs off when she realizes he isn't interested.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Claims to be "super straight" when flirting with an attractive doctor, but also says she'd only have to be paid $75 to sleep with Cheyenne, which is tens of thousands of dollars less than it would take to get her to sleep with Elias. She also offers to seduce the female district manager for the sake of Amy's career and makes multiple comments about finding Amy and Cheyenne attractive.
* AnimalLover: She doesn't care much for other people's feelings, but she is very compassionate towards birds and occasionally other animals. In one ChristmasEpisode, she leaves the FictionalCounterpart of a Salvation Army bell-ringer out in the snow but brings the reindeer into the store to get warm.
* BigBeautifulWoman: A larger lady and considered very attractive by the rest of the characters.
* BrutalHonesty: Will say whatever she wants in the harshest way possible and doesn't care about the consequences.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn:
** A downplayed example - the beginning of the series depicts her as incredibly socially awkward and seemingly inept at relationships, to the point that she creepily continues to hit on Jonah despite all his attempts to gently turn her down, and looks surprised and saddened to find out that most of the rest of the main cast regularly brought hook-ups to the photo lab. Later on in the series, though she's still shown as quite eccentric and inexperienced with romantic relationships, her anecdotes suggest that she had a fairly robust sex life prior to the beginning of the series.
** Dina at the start of the series treats the employees under her as replaceable, and her BrutalHonesty to everyone reflects that. She does soften a little bit as the show goes on, becoming more of a JerkWithAHeartOfGold. The series finale shows [[spoiler:that she can't decide whom to take with her as she goes on to manage the fulfillment center that replaces Cloud 9, and she's genuinely struggling to pick whom to take until Sandra makes the decision for her. And Dina lets Sandra - Sandra! - be assistant manager as thanks.]]
* CrazyCatLady: Or Crazy Bird Lady, to be precise. Dina owns several birds, which is used to demonstrate her eccentricity and how out of touch she is with other people. She frequently leaves messages for them if she finds out she can’t be home for some reason usually having to do with something weird happening at the store.
* DisappearedDad: Implied to be the reason for her haughty attitude. Finally meets him in season 5, resulting in the most emotionally open she becomes all series. It doesn't last.
* FriendsWithBenefits: With Garrett in Season 2; while they enjoy sleeping together, they hesitate to ascribe romantic feelings to their relationship. It ends in season 3. [[spoiler:Before their relationship becomes even more complicated in season 6.]]
* HairTriggerTemper: Dina has more {{Berserk Button}}s than most. Slackers on the job, suspected criminals (regardless of evidence), having her authority challenged, but the ultimate is messing with her birds. [[spoiler:Garrett finds that last one out the hard way in season 4.]]
* HiddenDepths: As the series progresses, it becomes clear she has a soft spot for animals. She's a vegan and is incredibly protective of her pet birds.
** Although it's not elaborated on much, Dina is a prepper. Following the tornado in the series 2 finale she makes sure that the storm center is fully stocked, at one point she insists on rationing to avoid resorting to cannibalism during a blizzard [[note]]It should be noted that the show takes place in a ''superstore'' and the people trapped inside account for perhaps fifteen people[[/note]], and she allows the destruction of Glen the robot on the rationale that it will delay the singularity [[note]]A hypothetical scenario where technology growth will be uncontrollable and irreversible[[/note]]. Despite this, and in contrast to many preppers in fiction, she seems relatively calm about the prospect of an apocalypse, despite at one point claiming it will happen within a decade.
* HopelessWithTech: She's not good at working technology, asking Garrett for help "hacking" into her employee app -- in other words, she needs help just to log in. She does quickly get addicted to texting, however.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Every Halloween, she wears a sexy cop uniform, which she arbitrarily picked out just so she wouldn't be the only one not wearing a costume. As a result, a lot of emphases is placed on her generous bust, which she somehow never really notices. Garrett actively tries to avoid her the first time, because her chest is literally at his eye level.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Grows into this. While she is consistently a harsh jerk, and some of [[PetTheDog nice things]] she does for other employees comes with payback or some other catch that negated the heartwarming, she comes to genuinely lookout for the others and sees them as friends. The first prominent example of this would be early in season 2 when she blackmails Jeff into not suspending or firing Amy after Marcus cut off his thumb, by threatening to report to Jeff to corporate for being on-site as a district manager when the incident happened.
%% * LawfulStupid: Occasionally skirts close to this whenever she treats the employee handbook like her bible.
* NoSocialSkills: Dina is absolutely incapable of reading a room, can't tell when people don't want her involved, and often just makes the situation worse because of her illogical courses of action. The beginning of the series suggests that she is fairly inept at relationships and sex, though later episodes have her imply that this is not quite the case.
* NotSoAboveItAll: At first glance, she’s just as serious about her job as Amy, but she’s just about eccentric as most of the other employees, to even more astonishing effect when she gets too involved in whatever oddity is happening in the store.
* NumberTwo: At Cloud 9, due to being the assistant manager. She should also be supportive to Glenn since he's the general manager of the store. She's not.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Considering how seriously she takes her assistant manager position, the fact that she takes a demotion to floor worker to pursue Jonah (which she couldn't do as an assistant manager, due to corporate guidelines against relations between superiors and coworkers) shows that she's really into him.
* PetTheDog:
** When Marcus, under Amy's supervision, accidentally cuts off his thumb, and Jeff looks to suspend or even fire her, Dina blackmails him into backing down, noting that he was at the store when the incident happened, and a report could harm his chances for promotion.
** Consistently sticks up for Amy even as her Golden Globes party continues to go down the crapper.
** In a rare moment of compassion, [[spoiler:she agrees to be Glenn's surrogate for his baby.]]
** Stops [[spoiler: Carol]] from killing [[spoiler: Sandra's cat.]]
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: Constantly calls Amy "Rodriguez", in later seasons as an InsultOfEndearment. Still Amy admits it's quite racist and asks her not to do it in front of anyone important.
* ReallyGetsAround: She likes to mention the many men she's slept with in casual conversation.
* RulesLawyer: Dina is a stickler for the rules and will run roughshod over everyone, including Glenn, if it means enforcing Cloud 9 store policy. At one point she gives up a hookup she's clearly very interested in, in favor of turning the guy into the police for fraud.
* SeriousBusiness: Treats her job like it's the most serious thing on Earth.
* SexyWhateverOutfit: Probably due to not seeing the point of owning multiple Halloween costumes, Dina wears the same sexy cop outfit in every HalloweenEpisode.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With Glenn. She hates how much of a soft touch he can be in contrast to her much sterner, more authoritarian approach. Despite this, they work very well as co-managers in the final season.
* SitcomCharacterArchetypes: The Bully, as a stern boss who lords her authority over the others.
* UnusualPetsForUnusualPeople: She's stern and [[BetterWithNonHumanCompany prefers the company of birds]], which range from normal species to more exotic types, including a ''falcon.''

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ss_garrett.png]]
-->'''Played by:''' Creator/ColtonDunn

A profoundly uninterested Cloud 9 employee in charge of the PA system that aims to make it through his work day doing as little as possible. Doesn't mean Garrett’s going to do that without poking fun at everyone along the way though. He uses a wheelchair.
----
* BlackAndNerdy: He's a black man who geeks out over video games and has some impressive technological know-how. Garrett breaks the mold somewhat as he is regarded as pretty much the coolest guy in the store.
* BrilliantButLazy: He's got the intelligence to achieve a lot more in life but has no interest in doing so.
* TheCasanova: Quite good with women, and won't let his personality or hers deter him from a good hook-up
* DeadpanSnarker: Garrett will often point out the ridiculousness of lines that come out of other characters, to an almost comedically self-deprecating effect on the parts of the writers.
* DisabledSnarker: If his race isn’t the source of a joke, it’s usually his disability, and he happily runs with it, especially if he knows talking about it will make people uncomfortable.
* {{Dismotivation}}: He is determined to only do the bare minimum.
* {{Fanboy}}: He's a huge fan of video game voice actor Erick Evans and becomes uncharacteristically flustered around him.
* FriendsWithBenefits: With Dina in Season 2. It doesn't last past that, except for one random hookup in season 4 under ''very'' inappropriate circumstances. [[spoiler:He is later invited to be part of Dina's open relationship in season 6, which gets weird fast. However after she breaks up with her boyfriend, the two resume this dynamic before becoming a real couple in the final episode]]
* TheGadfly: Consistently messes with the other employees just for fun.
** He tricks Mateo and Cheyenne into competing for a couch that someone died on, despite knowing that the couch in question actually must be destroyed per Cloud 9 policy, making their efforts AllForNothing.
** He gets Jonah to be rude and dismissive to a customer ostensibly to get him to stand up for himself more. Turns out he just wanted to get Jonah in trouble ''out of boredom.''
* HiddenHeartOfGold: Garrett's a sarcastic little shit-stirrer and he ain't sorry for it, but there are moments where the mask slips, and he shows that he cares more about his coworkers than he lets on. Jonah in particular gets a few of these moments. In the series finale, [[spoiler:he lets his defense down completely as he gives his final announcement before the store closes its doors, completely earnest in its sentimentality, showing how much he does cherish the friends he's made over the years.]]
* InspirationallyDisadvantaged:
** The second episode reveals that the company magazine tries to play this up with its cover and Garrett spends the whole episode [[DefiedTrope avoiding the company photographer as a result]].
** Played with in the "Black Friday" episode, in which he inspires the remaining workers to get through their shift, but not for any reason related to his disability - it's because he WILL do the bare minimum at work and won't do any less, even if he wants to.
* LargeHamAnnouncer: All too eager to make announcements in the store... mostly so he can snark about the products, his coworkers, and anything else that happens to be pissing him off that day.
* LazyBum: Prides himself on doing the bare minimum at work. Though he proudly refuses to do any less than that.
* MysteriousPast: It's brought up in one episode that nobody knows why Garrett is in a wheelchair, with Jonah spending the episode trying to figure it out. Garrett eventually calls him out on it, pointing out that he doesn't want to be labelled and treated differently depending on the reason behind his disability.
* OddFriendship: Develops one with Jerry of all people. He's even Jerry's Best Man at his wedding.
* OnlySaneMan: Occasionally comes off like this, especially when he’s making announcements on the PA system.
--> '''Garrett:''' Attention shoppers. Cloud 9 is not offering breast exams as part of our wellness fair. We have not hired someone to do that, and if we had, it would not be a teenage boy wearing a Music/TwentyOnePilots T-Shirt. Shop safely, folks.
* ReallyGetsAround: According to him, he has a healthy sex life and has a handful of work flirts going on at any given point at the same time. Deconstructed by season 6, as he realizes constant hookups with no relationship have left him a lonely 40-year-old man.
* SadClown: Becomes apparent in the later seasons that even though Garrett comes across as pretty laid back and chill, his personal life really isn't to write home about. By the 6th season, he's 40 years old, in no serious relationship, and basically spends most of his time alone playing video games.
* SitcomCharacterArchetypes: The Wisecracker, who pretty much lives for amusement at the expense of his coworkers and won't hesitate to drop a sarcastic line about it.
* TwoferTokenMinority: Garrett is black and uses a wheelchair. Played with in the second episode, in which Garrett is very aware that the store’s magazine photographer is looking for him ''because'' he is disabled.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Jonah's constant pretentiousness drives Garrett nuts, but Jonah's still one of his best friends.

A snippy, sarcastic, gay employee who is hired on the same day as Jonah. Mateo is an ambitious young man who sees Cloud 9 as his means of getting somewhere.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Invokes this to sell salsa to customers who are unaware he is Filipino instead of Latino. Some people at ICE also assume that he's Latino. As he points out, they believe that [[SarcasmMode obviously, all brown people who could be deported for being undocumented]] in the USA are [[LatinoIsBrown Latino]].
* AmbitionIsEvil: Unlike all the other Cloud 9 employees, Mateo thinks of Cloud 9 as a corporate structure to climb, and he’s very eager to impress anyone higher up on the Cloud 9 corporate ladder in order to get somewhere. He grows out of this somewhat as the series progresses.
* AsianAirhead: Seems like an [[AsianAndNerdy overachieving Asian nerd]] at first with his stickler for rules and penchant for ass-kissing, but he'd also previously thought that Asians weren't allowed to vote and that green cards could be bought at stores that sell knockoff goods rather than realizing he was an illegal immigrant.
* BitchInSheepsClothing:
** In the first episode, Mateo explicitly says to Jonah that he considers Jonah competition and that he’s hoping Jonah fails. Throughout the rest of the series, he’s always the one to point out when Jonah does something wrong.
** Takes money that people charitably raise for him to treat his ear infection to buy a Gucci bag.
* BreakTheHaughty: He's a pretty abrasive person, but absolutely did not deserve to be [[spoiler:detained by ICE]].
* CampGay: He's a very dramatic, sassy gay man with great fashion taste.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: In the Season 2 finale, Mateo forms an alliance with the Asian/Pacific Islander characters to stage a walkout in the event that Glenn lays any of them off. Midway through the episode, we find out that not only did Mateo form alliances with other characters through various (and somewhat obscure) similarities, but that he had no intention of following through with his established ‘alliances’ as long as he wasn’t at risk.
* DramaQueen: Regarding his occasional disgust with the happenings at Cloud 9 or his relationship with Jeff.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Mateo is either making fun of someone (e.g., Glenn) for being older or feeling out-of-touch with the youths (e.g., Cheyenne and Bo, who are both Gen Z kids). To be fair, that's pretty realistic for a millennial in the late 2010s to early 2020s.
* EasilyOverheardConversation: Has a quiet conversation with Amy about Jeff being in a secret relationship with Mateo rather than Sandra while Sarah is less than five feet away. Sarah immediately shares the gossip with the rest of the staff.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Mateo jumps at any opportunity to do work, but he's a subversion - Mateo does work incredibly hard, and is incredibly proud of it, but hard work does very little in a superstore where most its customers, its employees, and even its corporate structure doesn’t truly appreciate the notion.
* TheIllegal: An undocumented Filipino. Notable in that Mateo hadn't known he WAS illegal until the episode "Olympics" -- he'd previously thought that Asians weren't allowed to vote and that greencards could be bought at the same store as the one where they sell knockoff bags and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking bootleg Spider-Man DVDs]].
* NotSoAboveItAll: Mateo is an incredibly hard worker, as well as being highly competitive, and he looks down on the rest of the cast for not working as hard as he does... when he's actually working. He takes unscheduled breaks when he feels like it, and has spent the entire day in the break room on at least one occasion.
* OverlyLongName: Mateo primly introduces himself by mostly Spanish-derived names in his introduction, although "Liwanag" is an indigenous Tagalog surname meaning "radiance."[[note]]A pretty common TruthInTelevision. The Philippines was colonized by Spain for over 300 years, so their naming customs (enforced onto the native population) largely stuck. However, this does not necessarily indicate that Mateo has Spanish heritage.[[/note]]
* ThePerfectionist: To the point that even [[spoiler:during his time as an incarcerated non-employee who is just visiting]], he burns himself out improving and tidying up the Cloud 9 store.
* TwoferTokenMinority: Filipino and gay. Attempts to play with various versions of this trope in the second season finale, in which he forms work alliances with many different groups of coworkers even for the most obscure reasons.

An airheaded, quintessentially Gen Z teenage employee who works the cosmetics counter. Cheyenne is pregnant at the beginning of the series and gives birth at the end of season 1 to a baby girl named "Harmonica".
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: Still capable of performing a dance routine while eight/nine months pregnant.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Until “Cheyenne’s Wedding”, where her relatives on her father's side are revealed to be Japanese. Her actress is half-Japanese.
* AsianAirhead: Half-Asian, and not the brightest bulb in the box. Despite being a total ditz, though, she's kind-hearted and well-meaning.
* BuffySpeak: Occasionally struggles to phrase things, being the youngest employee and still in high school in Season 1.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Very ditzy, kinda lazy, some odd thought processes, but extremely good at working the cosmetics counter. Also a really efficient and thoughtful [[spoiler: floor manager]] as of season 6.
* CharacterTics: Cheyenne tends to laugh loudly and inappropriately when nervous or in an awkward situation. This devolves into full-on LaughingMad when faced with the tornado.
* CloudCuckoolandersMinder: Although she has some tendencies of this herself, she falls into this position around Bo, encouraging him away from some of his more harebrained ideas.
* TheDitz: Due to her youth, she tends to be very spacey and misunderstands things a lot.
* FutureLoser: Amy, having once been in Cheyenne’s position as a pregnant teen, recognizes that Cheyenne is on the way to becoming, well, Amy herself in ten years. As such, Amy recognizes that her station in life is not ideal for herself or for her family, and often tries to encourage Cheyenne and Bo to think about their future life as parents.
* LaughingMad: Spends the tornado cackling like a madwoman due to the stress.
* MsFanservice: Spends Season 4's "Costume Competition" in a coconut bra, grass skirt, and not much else.
* NiceGirl: Probably the nicest employee at the store.
* NervousWreck: Gets nervous about... a lot of things... over the course of the series.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Enjoys the attention she gets when dressed as a hula dancer.
->'''Mateo:''' Like, do you really want men gawking at you like you're some piece of meat?\
'''Cheyenne:''' Kinda.
* SitcomCharacterArchetypes: The Goofball, as the youngest, sweetest, most airheaded member of the main cast.
* TeenPregnancy: Pregnant at the start of the series, and still in high school.
* TookALevelInBadass: In Series 3, her ideas during the management training seminar include several initiatives that would be impractical, to say the least, creating an aisle maze, Mardi Gras Tuesdays. [[spoiler: She eventually gets selected to the position of floor manager based on her positive ideas and proves to be an effective and well-liked one.]]
* TookALevelInCynic: A common side effect of growing pains, of course. Cheyenne starts out naïve and too nice for her own good. In later seasons, she's surlier, snarkier, and more assertive.
* WideEyedIdealist: She believes in the best in everybody, and that nobody is truly bad. Garrett [[TheCynic clearly proves her wrong]].
* YouAreInCommandNow: In season 6 [[spoiler:she becomes the new floor manager, and a surprisingly popular one at that!]]

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ss_glenn.png]]

Cloud 9's religious, people-pleaser manager. What he lacks in full competence, he makes up for in optimism and whole-hearted support for his employees.
----
* BenevolentBoss: While he has his flaws, Glenn is mostly a kind, patient and understanding boss who treats his employees very well and makes their work life as comfortable as possible.
* BerserkButton: Downplayed. While usually very gleeful, he's prone to snapping whenever somebody counters his religious beliefs, if he doesn't try to change the subject right away. At best, he'll casually mention his disapproval or snap at them very quickly before switching back to his happy default mode. At worst, you have "Cloud Green," in which Amy prohibits his favorite pastor from preaching in the store and Glenn responds with a childish breakdown where he tries to preach Christianity as much as possible until he gets written up.
* BizarreTasteInFood: Drinks two gallons of fruit juice a day and eats an entire loaf of his wife Jerusha's banana bread every morning. Said banana bread contains taco mix. Going cold turkey on juice causes him to pass out from low blood sugar.
* CannotKeepASecret: Fails to keep the fact that Amy is going through marriage counseling a secret within the span of two episodes.
* CantTakeCriticism: What makes Glenn so difficult to deal with is the fact that it's hard to offer him constructive or even necessary criticism without causing him to completely melt down or throw a tantrum of some kind.
* ChronicallyCrashedCar: His car is constantly destroyed by something or other.
* CrisisOfFaith: When [[spoiler:the tornado tears into the store]] in the season 2 finale, he prays to every deity he can name to make it stop. He's rather flummoxed when ''Allah'' seems to make it stop.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: While he's easily taken advantage of by his employees, he has a few secret weapons that show he knows when to put his foot down. For instance, he has a binder filled with personal details about each store vendor. While Amy initially thinks that it's useless, it's revealed that he uses said binder to blackmail the store vendors and keep them in line.
* ExtremeDoormat: Perhaps his most defining feature. Glenn is a friendly boss, but he doesn't have any spine and bends very quickly in the workplace. Indeed, part of his value to corporate is that he never pushes back against any directive when they relay it to him, meaning pushback has to come from Amy or Jonah instead. He occasionally tries to subvert this and reject the company’s orders to fire Cheyenne and layoff some of his employees, only to revert back to this the moment he becomes uncomfortable.
* AFatherToHisMen: Deconstructed, since this quality is both a blessing and a curse in this setting. Glenn is one of the most approachable managers you can ask for, and he genuinely cares for everyone who works under him. Unfortunately, soft-heartedness doesn't lend itself well to being a store manager, where he often has to make hard decisions, such as the season 2 finale where he hems and haws all day about who to let go because of budget cutbacks.
* FreudianExcuse: In Season 2, it's revealed that his father's hardware store was forced out of business when Cloud 9 moved in down the street, and then it was the only work he could find. That he's working for the company that ruined his family's livelihood goes a long way to explaining his doormat attitude when it comes to them.
* TheFundamentalist: Glenn is very religious and conservative in his way of thinking - he is uncomfortable (but not close-minded to) the mention of Mateo's homosexuality, doesn’t like the thought of abortion, and doesn’t even know that the store sells the birth control pill until Dina makes him aware of it in Season 2. He's so deep into this trope that there's a point in season 6 where Jonah makes an offhand mention that Cloud 9 likely has many customers of no faith whatsoever... and there's an awkward moment of silence as Glenn has a sudden look of ''dawning horror,'' before immediately changing the subject for the sake of his own sanity. While he is all too eager to preach his Christian faith and view, he is also typically kinder and gentler than most examples of the trope, as he prefers to [[ChangeTheUncomfortableSubject avoid the uncomfortable subjects]] or even learn more about them instead of pushing people to follow his own beliefs (though he can be InnocentlyInsensitive about them). He also makes an honest effort to follow the positive examples of Christian beliefs as well, being kind, charitable and making an honest effort to help others as much as he can.
* GoshDangItToHeck: He seems straight-up uncomfortable with cursing, even at his angriest.
-->'''Glenn:''' It's a party, mother-fathers!
* HiddenDepths: While he loves his job and Cloud 9, he occasionally shows some hidden feelings - like frustration at the store for putting his family's hardware store out of business, or anger at corporate for treating him and his workers with little respect (though he usually doesn't have the heart to really lash out at them).
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Glenn ''means'' well, but due to his incessant need to be liked, lack of a backbone in regards to anything corporate which routinely puts his staff in uncomfortable if not outright dangerous situations, imposing his values onto those who do not share them at all because he thinks he knows better, and his overall ManChild personality, he can be an absolute nightmare to put up with.
* ItsAllAboutMe: While he does try to look out for the well being of others, Glenn can also get sidetracked by his childish desire to have things his way.
* LoveObstructingParents: He has many foster children and is very protective of them, especially when it comes to dating. When Jonah expresses interest in one of his adult daughters, he delivers this little gem:
-->'''Glenn:''' If you hurt her, I will kill you in real life until you're dead.
* ManChild: Glenn is not only painfully naive, but he can also be insensitive and incredibly selfish. He essentially throws a tantrum when he's told he cannot simply run the store the way he used to once he steps down as a manager, to the point of demanding his old job back despite no longer having any authority to do so.
* TheMentor: He becomes this to Amy in season 4, when he steps down to store associate and she becomes store manager.
* NiceGuy: However boneheaded his methods, Glenn is a sweet, genial guy.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: Glenn isn't especially notable in the real world, but compared to the nigh unemployable people who often reach out to Cloud 9, he's a bulwark of stability.
** Notably, when he's briefly brought OUT of his pond with a meeting with the CEO, he becomes anxious to the point of vicious anger.
* SomebodyDoesntLoveRaymond: Tends to overcompensate if someone doesn't approve of the store.
* StepfordSmiler: Glenn's happy façade starts cracking early, and finally breaks before season 1 is over. He comes back around to this state in Season 2.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With Dina. He finds her to be too mean and rulebound, while he prefers a softer approach. Despite this, they work very well as co-managers in the final season.
* ThrowTheDogABone: No one respects Glenn, but he occasionally gets a victory (mostly out of pity).
** Dina lets Glenn speak about God and religion in eulogizing a late customer (store policy prevents overt displays and mentions of religion). No one pays attention, but he's too happy to notice.
** A gay couple decides to not be offended and join Glenn's impromptu dance party (he was trying to show that he accepted them) after one half points out that Glenn is essentially the other half's father from "two years ago."
** Used for major Heartwarming fuel in the season 1 finale when after being fired by the Union Buster for trying to sneak Cheyenne maternity leave, Amy is able to effortlessly unify the entire staff into a strike on his behalf within minutes. The same staff who had to have a five-different-themed barbecue due to stubborn disagreement; showing that even if they might not take Glenn seriously, his employees do appreciate his caring and passionate nature.
** In the second episode Garrett, who resents the InspirationallyDisadvantaged nature of the store magazine, leverages his tokenism to get the photographer to put Glenn in the photo with him after Glenn was rudely denied a chance. Though it is undercut by the magazine covering Glenn's face with a graphic, he is still overjoyed.
* TroubledSympatheticBigot: He's TheFundamentalist through and through, with all that entails, but underneath it all he's genuinely kind to and supportive of his employees (most of the time) and is more likely to be InnocentlyInsensitive than genuinely cruel.
* VocalDissonance: Most fans used to Glenn's high-pitched, Muppet-like voice are surprised when they hear Mark [=McKinney=] speak in real life.

[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/superstore_sandra.jpeg]]

-> '''Played By''': Creator/KalikoKauahi

A soft-spoken Cloud 9 employee that is put down more often than not by Dina, and virtually ignored by everyone else.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Mateo and the other Asians at Cloud Nine [[MistakenNationality think she's one of them]]. She has to clear up that she isn't of Asian ethnicity, but Hawaiian. JustifiedTrope; beyond the obvious physical similarities, Polynesians like Hawaiians share considerable genetic makeup with Southeast Asians like Filipinos (e.g., [[CaptainObvious Mateo]]) as a whole, having common origins.
* AscendedExtra: Was meant to be a guest part in the second episode of the show and became an integral part of the main cast.
* AttentionWhore: Played sympathetically; Sandra is lonely and rarely has anything good going on in her life, so she is known to make up elaborate lies to feel special.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: After having suffered half a season of slander and emotional abuse from Carol, Sandra [[MurderByInaction opts to turn away from a chance to save Carol]] during a sudden tornado that hits Cloud 9. She also has a tendency to snap in later seasons when the store is being slighted, such as her screaming and TantrumThrowing in response to the store being vandalized in "Steps Challenge."
* BirdsOfAFeather: Her boyfriend Jerry is similarly soft-spoken and heavyset.
* ButtMonkey: She usually appears for the other employees to put her down or ignore her. She's especially this trope for Dina, who resents even having to be around her and finds any opportunity to put her down.
* TheDogBitesBack:
** Sandra to Carol, who belittles Sandra for her interest in Jerry, who at that point in the series is Carol’s boyfriend, if only because Sandra had been pretending she was in a relationship in order to garner popularity with her coworkers.
** In season 4, she ends up getting back at Carol AND Dina for their treatment of her. After she was forced to break up with Jerry due to losing [[MakesSenseInContext a coin toss against Carol]], they end up going behind her back in "Blizzard" and continue their relationship. During "Easter", Jerry shows up disguised in a bunny costume to see Sandra and drives Dina crazy by making her think that she's hallucinating. Sandra pretends to not see him and tells Dina that she's probably going through a SanitySlippage because she lost her birds in "Valentine's Day".
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:Finally marries Jerry in season 5 after multiple seasons of chaos with Carol, including Carol trying to ruin that very wedding, only to be foiled by Dina.]]
* ExtremeDoormat: Most especially by Dina, who tells her to shut up often.
-->'''Sandra:''' My mailman uses my bathroom every day. He used to knock, but then he made me make him a key.
* GrewASpine: Slowly does this over the course of the series, growing from a shy little social misfit to being considerably more assertive, even to Dina.
* HiddenDepths: A trained midwife who has eidetic (actually: photographic autobiographical) memory.
* MamaBear: After adopting Tony, she becomes fiercely protective of him and threatens to "destroy" Jonah for (accidentally) hitting him.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: Very narrowly averted in that the hypotenuse doesn’t die by any active attempt by Sandra, but the attempt to perform a version of this is there when Sandra chooses not to save Carol during the tornado that hits Cloud 9 in the Season 2 finale.
* NiceGirl: She's socially lame but is much more pleasant to be around than Justine, even if she doesn't read the room often.
* PetTheDog: To her credit, before leaving Carol to her fate, she actually DID shepherd a few employees and customers to safety from the incoming tornado.
* PhotographicMemory: Sandra states in "Olympics" that she has superior autobiographical memory, meaning [[BlessedWithSuck she clearly remembers everything that's happened to her]] while working at Cloud 9. She demonstrates so by reminding Dina of the last time she called Sandra pathetic for having photographic memory.
* PhraseCatcher: Constantly on the receiving end of "Shut up, Sandra!" Usually from Dina.
* PromotionToOpeningTitles: Kaliko Kauahi was promoted to series regular starting in season 5.
* ShipperOnDeck: For Amy and Jonah, going so far as to keep track of their relationship statuses when the two aren't together, and becoming incredibly frustrated when she witnesses the fight that breaks them up in Season 6.
* SitcomArchnemesis: To Carol, who is constantly sniping with her because of Sandra's mutual attraction to Carol's boyfriend Jerry. Exaggerated as the series progresses when their hatred gets to near sociopathic levels.
* TookALevelInBadass: Designed ButtMonkey from day one, by the end of the series she's built up enough confidence that she's HappilyMarried to Jerry and proven herself more than competent enough to become Dina's [[RankUp assistant manager]] after the store closes.
* WhatYouAreIntheDark: Is something of a dark inverse of the traditional trope. For the most part, Sandra is soft spoken, sweet seeming, and a major doormat. However, when she is given opportunities where she has power over the people who usually demean her and nobody else is there to notice or stop her, she chooses the to let them suffer, like when she chooses not to save Carol during the tornado in season 2, or in season 4 when Dina is left hanging from a harness for seemingly hours after Matteo forgets about their photo shoot, when Sandra hears Dina yelling for somebody to let her down, makes eye contact, and very deliberately chooses to walk away and leave Dina hanging.

* {{Determinator}}: In the Season 2 finale, Brett is ''determined'' to get all the carts where they're supposed to, despite a tornado warning (that he may not have been aware of).
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: Died during the Season 2 finale in the tornado. [[spoiler:Or not; as he turns up alive.]]
* HiddenDepths:
** He's apparently got a switchblade in the back of his pants at all times. Why? We don't know.
** In "Blizzard," he completes about 20 jigsaw puzzles in the warehouse, apparently just for enjoyment.
* InformedAbility: The entirety of his character centers around this idea. Brett is apparently one of the best workers in the store. The audience never sees this, but the characters apparently have.
* MadeOfIron: [[spoiler: Not even a tornado can kill him off even though it was heading right for him.]]
* OffScreenMomentOfAwesome:
** The rest of the characters always discuss and act jealous of Brett's apparent success within the store. In one episode, Brett somehow manages to sell an entire shelf of merchandise. And the shelf. Just by standing there.
** Also somehow managed to [[spoiler:outdrive a tornado that, when last seen on screen, was heading straight toward him.]]
* OhCrap: When he sees a tornado headed straight in his direction. His face says it all, but this time ''he actually speaks it''.
* RunningGag: We don't see Brett do much, if anything. But the characters all say he's amazing without doubting it.

A sales associate, later warehouse manager with a criminal history. Nobody seems particularly fond of him.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer:
** Downplayed, but he'll occasionally come on to Amy or act like the two of them are a [[WillTheyOrWontThey long time coming]], even though Amy repeatedly turns him down.
** During the sexual harassment seminar he asks Sarah whether her "no" was a "I'm actually busy" or "I don't want to go out with you". (It's the second one)
** Subverted for laughs in season 5, when Amy tells him why she can't hire him as her new assistant. In exchange for not telling the highers-up, Marcus puts his hands on her desk, leans forward, and tells Amy in a low voice that she probably knows what he he wants. [[spoiler:It's her desk.]]
* TheAce: Inverted when it comes to customer service; he's the best in the store at being the ''worst'' to deal with. When the staff is trying to bring down sales, he's assigned to just float around the store so customers feel like he's everywhere. Surprisingly enough, played straight when it comes to his warehouse job; he's great at working with the other warehouse workers, the truck drivers, and pretty much everyone else he has to deal with in the job apart from the floor staff. And when Amy is holding try-outs for an assistant job in season 5, he's far and away the best candidate, beating out even Mateo.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Said he had a sex dream about Mateo and shows strange signs of attraction to Jonah. He also admits that he wishes he was brave enough to "take the plunge" and be with another man.
* AscendedExtra: He started off as a character who would pop up once every couple of episodes, but gradually began appearing once in every episode along with Justine.
* BasementDweller: He keeps bringing up how he lives in his mom's basement.
* CasanovaWannabe: Hits on girls way too often. They're obviously disgusted.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Initially, he was just the office asshat who represented the worst of stereotypical male entitlement. He becomes more personable later on and more of a dimwitted but well-meaning goof than an actively malicious person.
* TheDitz: He's not too bright. Along with the below example of him slicing his thumb off, he thinks root beer cures everything, and thought soaking his infected leg in his apartment complex's hot tub every night would heal it. It did not.
* {{Fingore}}: Slices his thumb off using the deli meat slicer early in season 2. He gets it reattached in time, thankfully and was made warehouse manager by corporate in exchange for him promising not to sue.
* AFoolAndHisNewMoneyAreSoonParted: Season 4, it's revealed that Glenn made an error with his wage and he was being paid $86 per hour instead of $8.60 for six years. But by the end of the season, [[spoiler:it's revealed that he's been living in a hidden utility closet at the store for seven months because he's homeless]].
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: 'Friend' in this case is used as loosely as possible. Contrary to his opinion that he, Amy, Jonah, and Garrett are in some sort of tight friend group, Marcus is a lot less popular than he thinks he is. In the later seasons, this is less pronounced, especially as he befriends Isaac due to similar personalities. However, he's notably not invited to Sandra's wedding.
* HiddenDepths: When Amy holds a fake round of interviews for the position of her new assistant, Marcus turns out to be surprisingly promising, revealing that he's had experience in that field and knows a lot of the potential connections due to his position as warehouse manager.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: And he seemingly isn't aware when others don't want to be his friend, as demonstrated with Mateo and Jonah. In Mateo's case, however, it turns into a solid OddFriendship.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: He's close with Mateo's aunt Irma.
* OddFriendship: He forms a strange bond with the much more snarky, competitive, and well-groomed Mateo, especially after Mateo's aunt houses him.
* ThePigpen: Downplayed, but his personal hygiene is said to be incredibly poor.
* RunningGag: Whenever something exciting happens. he always attempts to get a chant going, and nobody joins in.

* SuperDoc: Subverted. He comes in seemingly ready to deliver Cheyenne's baby, asks her if she's taken any drugs that might affect the birth... and then walks away saying his job is done, since as a pharmacist, he wasn't trained in childbirth. In another episode he's shown to not know how to do first aid either.

* MoralityPet: An odd example, since the staff are by and large moral already, but they all have a soft spot for Myrtle and will happily do anything for her, despite her middling job performance. Jonah and Amy find massive savings in the budget in an effort to save her job, and Laurie's decision to do so prompts the team to try and bring attention to Cloud 9's unethical business practices. Following her promotion, Amy hires Myrtle as her assistant with every intention of simply giving her a salary without her needing to work. [[spoiler: Glenn even gives Amy her ashes before she moves to California, as Myrtle always dreamed of moving there, and in the finale a photo of Myrtle can be seen on the wall of Sturgis and Sons.]]
* NiceGirl: Downplayed. Myrtle might make the occasional insensitive or prejudiced comment, but she's generally shown to be a kind woman that her coworkers clearly adore.
* PutOnABus: She is fired from the store in season 3, and later makes minor appearances as a can collector (in person), a hologram (digitally), and eventually, as Amy's assistant (also in person).
* RacistGrandma: Downplayed. She'll occasionally spout prejudiced or otherwise old-fashioned comments (such as her line about Orientals), and gets away with it because of her age.
* RamblingOldManMonologue: Will occasionally launch into long stories tangentially related to the topic at hand.
* ScatterbrainedSenior: Because of how old she is, her screws aren't always fastened correctly.

!!Carol
->'''Played by:''' Creator/IreneWhite

Another sales associate, who's scheming and a little unstable.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: In addition to her {{yandere}} tendencies towards attractive men, she gets excited to have a threesome with Garrett and Colleen, but loses interest when she hears the proposition only includes Garrett.
* AscendedExtra: Initially just a one-off employee who gets more screentime and plotlines in later seasons, playing a major role in Sandra's ongoing love story.
* BadPeopleAbuseAnimals: She nearly [[spoiler:killed Sandra's cat at Sandra's wedding]] just to spite Sandra.
* GranolaGirl: Goes through a short hippie witch phase in season 4 after her post-breakup breakdown.
* EntitledToHaveYou: Despite not really caring much about Jerry as a person, she acts personally affronted at the idea that he would get with Sandra instead, and breaks down when he eventually leaves her.
* EveryoneHasStandards: For all her crazy ideas about how to spite Sandra and win over Jerry, even she thinks Kelly's proposals to plant drugs on Jonah or kidnap his brothers is too far even for revenge.
* HatedByAll: When she returns to work after [[spoiler:trying to kill Sandra's cat]], everybody hates her and avoids working with her, even Glenn.
* LaserGuidedKarma: After [[spoiler:she tries killing Sandra's cat at her wedding,]] she returns to work, only to find no one wants to work with her. She's pushed onto duty fixing Glen the robot, [[spoiler: and nearly gets killed when she's electrocuted. Sandra promptly goes to the security tapes and [[ComedicSociopathy happily watches it on a loop.]]]]
* NeverMyFault: After corporate allows her to return to work following therapy, she still refuses to acknowledge that all of what happened with Sandra was her doing, and tries to push it onto Sandra.
* PsychoExGirlfriend: Jerry chooses Sandra over Carol because she's domineering and controlling. Carol is never quite the same after this, and [[spoiler:plots to ''kill'' Sandra, then ruin her wedding.]]
* SitcomArchnemesis: Her petty rivalry with Sandra starts out as garnish for the many floor employee-related subplots, but quickly turns nasty, especially after the whole LoveTriangle with Jerry.
* TheSociopath: Carol is ''the worst.'' She's constantly creeping fellow employees out with her revenge fantasies, and actively tries to dismantle Sandra's life. She has no guilt or compassion for what she does to people and only cares about what they can provide her.
* StepfordSmiler: An expert at this trope. She puts on a pleasant demeanor to (poorly) disguise the fact that she's seriously unhinged.
* TheStoner: Really attached to her vape pen.
* TookALevelInKindness: In Season 6. Notably, she's the first to give Sandra money to help pay for her cat's medical expenses, despite attempting to kill it in series 5.
* WeddingSmashers: [[spoiler:Plots to ruin Sandra's wedding by killing her cat; Dina foils this.]]
* {{Yandere}}: She is obsessively possessive of Jerry to the point of wanting to rape him while he's in a coma, and frequently showing murderous intent towards Sandra for her attraction towards him.

->'''Played by:''' Creator/KellySchumann

A sales associate who thinks she's a lot cooler than she actually is.
----
* AscendedExtra: Like Marcus, formerly a one-off employee who gets a lot more comedic scenes later on.
* AttentionWhore: Justine is the type of girl who will do or say anything to look cool. All she accomplishes is looking a bit pathetic, but she just keeps trying.
* GirlfriendInCanada:
** When the store needs a bunch of people to come in to throw off [[spoiler:an ICE raid]], Justine claims that all of her friends are models in Manhattan so they can't make it.
** In season 5, her new 'boyfriend' is a Ghanaian man who takes her money, but who never even calls her.
* HaveIMentionedIAmSexuallyActiveToday: Justine really wants her co-workers to believe she has lots of sex. Every indication is given that quite the opposite is true, and her posturing is played for CringeComedy.
-->'''Justine:''' I like reverse cowgirl, because there's no eye contact.
-->'''Everyone else:''' ''*disgusted silence*''
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: She often attempts to invoke this trope by acting like a loose party girl with lots of cool and popular friends, but it's transparently obvious that she's anything but.
* SpeakingLikeTotallyTeen: Justine uses modern youth slang like 'yas' and 'slay', but it always comes out as rather lame since she's a working adult speaking to working adults.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: While she can be off-putting and is often the subject of derision, she's also consistently invited to their parties and events, including significant ones like weddings.
* TrademarkFavouriteFood: Shrimp.

* AllMenArePerverts: He's ''definitely'' a pervert.
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: [[spoiler:No one who knew him is saddened when they find out he's dead.]]
* BadPeopleAbuseAnimals: Maybe. His locker had a dead turtle in it, but given that it was found over a year after he vanished, it could have still been alive when he had it, or a corpse before he put it in there.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:He dies when he gets trapped in the wall trying to drill a peephole into the women's restroom.]]
* LastDisrespects: [[spoiler: "Sal's Dead" is an entire episode where Sal's corpse is treated like a Halloween prop due to the timing as well as people openly stating their distaste for the man.]]
* PaedoHunt: His interest in a picture of Glenn's kids is unsettling, though it's unclear whether it's for sex crime reasons or serial killer reasons. Though it's very clear he enjoys watching Cheyenne's false labor more than anyone should, especially because she was 17 at the time.

* AgentMulder: She believes in angels, and even believes one saved her from drowning as a little girl, [[spoiler:Something that causes tension in her relationship with the more rational-minded Jonah.]]
* BackForTheFinale: She leaves at the start of season 4, but returns at the end of the season to [[spoiler: help run interference with ICE and protect Mateo]].
* TheBusCameBack: She returns to the store a few times, to [[spoiler:help hide Mateo from ICE at the end of season 4, and in season 5 to support the store's unionization efforts by bringing over the union cards from her own store, and season 6 as an unwitting part of a scheme by Mateo.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Apparently two people died in her prom night.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Her level of ditziness seem to rise or fall with the need for her to appear as a believable love interest for Jonah or just be funny.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her first introduction to the store happens while everyone walks out and ignores her after Glenn forgets to introduce her. This gives a clue on how she will be treated further.
* HatedByAll: No matter how hard she tries, the other employees don't really like her. It's the reason [[spoiler:she decides to transfer stores]]. She is at one point compared to [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo Scrappy-Doo]] himself, as a late addition that everyone disliked (although Jonah [[ComplimentBackfire meant it as a compliment]]).
* NiceGirl: She's very sweet and friendly.
* OnlySaneMan: Tends to react with understandable surprise and bewilderment at the actions of her coworkers.
* PrecisionFStrike: Gets one in [[spoiler: her final episode]] "Toxic Work Environment."
-->'''Kelly''': I gotta get the f**k out of here.
* PutOnABus: She [[spoiler:transfers stores]], although to a branch not particularly far away. This allows her to return for occasional guest spots.
* ReplacementFlatCharacter: To Jonah, being a NaiveNewcomer who can never get it right with people no matter how hard she tries.
* RomanticFalseLead: [[spoiler:She dates Jonah, and they get along well, but she has the misfortune of doing so just as his and Amy's feelings for each other become most apparent.]]

!!Isaac
->'''Played by:''' Creator/SteveAgee

A social, easily excitable seasonal worker who becomes a full associate in the fourth season.
----
* AscendedExtra: Steve Agee was originally credited as a guest star in the two Season 3 episodes he appeared in. From the fourth season on, he's a recurring character.
** An in-universe example, as well. He was part of a group of part-time hires who were the subject of a "who quits first" bet. He stays on for the rest of the series.
* TheBigGuy: His actor is 6'6" so this was a given. He's even called the "Jolly Ginger Giant" by Garrett at one point with regards to his height and personality.
* FieryRedhead: Red-haired, easily agitated, and excitable.
* FunctionalAddict: In his first episode, it's revealed that he and the other seasonal workers were [[spoiler:all in Glenn's church's Second Chances program for recovering drug addicts, and that Isaac in particular has been arrested for using meth in the past despite seeming like a perfectly normal person. This causes Jonah to feel bad for starting the gambling ring for which seasonal employee will be fired first]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Can sometimes be an asshole, mostly because his easily-excited nature renders him careless, but he's still a nice enough guy.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: It's revealed in a season 4 episode that he's under 30 years old, much to Jonah's shock. Steve Agee was in his late 40's when he began playing the role.

->'''Played by:''' Creator/SelishaSherlick

A long term Cloud 9 floor worker who is usually behind the main characters in almost every group shot doing [[FunnyBackgroundEvent something entertaining]].
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Was teased when she was eight for being "so brown".
* BoyishShortHair: Starting in season 4 she sports a pixie cut.
* EasilyOverheardConversation: She's standing barely five feet away from Amy and Mateo talking about Jeff being in a secret relationship with Mateo and that Sandra's claims to dating Jeff are entirely fictional. She immediately shares the gossip with the rest of the staff.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: Nothing obtrusive, but her expressions, actions, and Halloween Costumes are usually prominently up front to represent the rest of the Cloud 9 employees.
* PlasticBitch: Played with. In Season Six she becomes the subject of gossip on whether she got a nose job. Corey and Mateo confront her in a break room scene where she claims it only looks like a nose job because she got new glasses and a hair cut. No one believes her.
* SecretOtherFamily: Divorced fellow Superstore associate Rob in season 4 after it was revealed ''she'' had a secret other family.
* ShipperOnDeck: When Jonah and Amy's kiss during the tornado is revealed, everyone is shocked. Sarah instead has a massive smile that surprises Jonah when he tries to turn around in embarrassment.

A robot added to the store in season 5.
----
* CargoShip: One of the interstitials has it run into a police bomb robot while romantic music plays over the store speakers.
* FlatCharacter: Comes with being a voiceless robot; it's mostly defined by the actual staff's opinion of it.
* JobStealingRobot: Its presence irks the Cloud 9 employees as they assume it'll make their jobs obsolete.
* MadeOfIron: It survives being thrown off a roof with nary a scratch and immediately goes back to work to the horror of the staff.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted for comedy, the fact that it's a robot with Glenn's name does nothing to assuage fears that Cloud 9 is trying to replace its staff with machines.

* CrazyPrepared: When ICE agents raid the store, he pulls out an entire ''dossier'' of legal documents and other evidence to prove he is in the US legally. Anyone who remembers the narratives around Syrian refugees will find his attitude entirely justifiable.
* DeadpanSnarker: The humour around his character comes from the fact that he is a war survivor who now has to deal with the utterly petty circumstances involving the store and comments on them with bone-dry wit.
* [[EmotionlessGirl Emotionless Man]]: He is not quite emotionless. However, his tone changes little whether he is commenting on Amy and Jonah's relationship or recounting the deaths of all his friends in the civil war.
* WarRefugees: He is a refugee survivor of the Syrian Civil War.

->'''Played by:''' Creator/MichaelBunin

Cloud 9 district manager, brought in to evaluate the store.
----
* AmbitionIsEvil: ZigZaggingTrope. Early on at the beginning of season 2, Dina knows that he aspires to rise through the ranks of corporate, which she uses to blackmail him into not suspending or firing Amy due to Marcus accidentally slicing off his finger under her supervision (due to him also being at the store when the incident happened). However, he willingly resigns from his district manager position in order to pursue a relationship with Mateo (who is unable to transfer stores to work away from Jeff due to [[spoiler:being undocumented.)]] At the end of season 3, this trope is played straighter, as he works with the store's employees to [[spoiler:expose corporate's plan to fire all workers older than 70 to save money, including Myrtle, at a lived-streamed meeting, but he backs down when Cloud 9's CEO offers him a new, high-ranking, corporate position on the spot.]] However, in season 4, he does offer information to Amy in critical moments.
* TheAtoner: Starts showing signs of this in the second half of season 4, as his new job allows him to hear critical information from corporate that he can later pass on to Amy [[spoiler:when she becomes store manager.]]
* TheCassandra: In the season 4 finale, [[spoiler:he is the first to hear that Homeland Security is being sent to the store. He immediately excuses himself and tries to call Mateo directly multiple times, but is sent to voicemail. It's only when Amy picks up his call that he's finally able to tell someone that Mateo needs to run.]]
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: The cast is initially friendly towards him until he sells out to corporate while they were petitioning to get Myrtle's job back. Mateo breaks up with him and he becomes a person who tries too hard to fit in. His associates in [[spoiler:Cloud 9's Chicago office are also shown thinking of him as weird, but they never suspect that he's passing critical information to Amy and Mateo.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: Jeff can be incredibly selfish, and his first priority is always to make sure he comes out on top. He tries to be everyone's friend, but will do the bare minimum to answer the workers' concerns if he thinks anything bigger will hurt his chances of climbing up the corporate ladder.
* NiceMeanAndInbetween: The Inbetween to Laurie's Mean and Maya's Nice.
* TheMole: When he [[spoiler:betrays Mateo and the rest of the store's employees by accepting a cushy corporate job instead of exposing corporate's wrongdoings,]] he weakly attempts to justify his choice by arguing that he will be the workers' "man on the inside," helping to take down corporate from within. While none of the workers believe him for a second, he does use his position to offer Amy and Mateo information at critical moments, such as warning them [[spoiler:that corporate is sending ICE to raid the store to intimidate the workers out of unionizing]] and later that [[spoiler:that corporate is considering shutting down the store.]]
* OppositesAttract: Jeff is buttoned-up, professional and composed. His brief boyfriend, Mateo, is swishy, conniving and a wee bit backstabby.
* PokeThePoodle: After learning that [[spoiler:Amy set Mateo up with her brother]], Jeff's idea of revenge is to... fart in her office.
* SecretKeeper: He knows that Mateo is [[spoiler:undocumented]] and initially quit his job as district manager to avoid getting him caught.
* StraightGay: Mateo can apparently tell that he's gay because of his "gaydar," but nobody else even remotely guessed that Jeff was gay until Mateo tells them they're in a relationship.

The District Manager after Jeff quits, introduced in season 3.
----

* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Was complicit in many of corporates amoral scheme's such as using a bunch of fake write-ups as an excuse to fire Myrtle because elderly employees cost the company money, and giving Jeff a cushy job to keep him silent about it. She also abused her power to make her highly unqualified son [[{{Nepotism}} made manager]], does cocaine at work and was willing to have Osarc Highlands closed down just out of spite for Amy.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her first act on screen is to tell off Garrett & Cheyenne for using their phones on shift, only to later watch the same video they were while she's supposed to be interviewing Amy.
* FunctionalAddict: Her most notable trait, besides disliking Amy, is her cocaine habit.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Loses all power over Amy once she sees her doing coke in Glen's office and from then on is forced to cater to her wishes.
* {{Nepotism}}: Hires her totally incompetent and unqualified son to briefly become manager before Amy blackmails get into giving her the job instead.

* {{Foil}}: Like Amy, she's a driven and hardworking Latina who acknowledges that there are not so many opportunities for women like them. But while Maya sees corporate advancement to be a perfectly fine career path, Amy is more reluctant, since it feels like she is betraying the store's unionization efforts.
* NiceGirl: Probably the most approachable of Cloud 9's management, but she's still a ''manager.''
* NiceMeanAndInbetween: The Nice to Laurie's Mean and Jeff's Inbetween.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Maya's friendly, even remembering Kelly from briefly meeting her at another store, she defers to Amy's judgment and doesn't even chide her when the staff misbehave in front of them. She also takes the time to briefly mentor Amy and encourage her to further her career after noticing her potential.

* AllTakeAndNoGive: He basically always puts Amy in a tight spot where she’s forced to take jobs she doesn’t want by making ludicrous decisions on the spot, but doesn’t ever consider what it’d be like if Amy did the same.
* ParentsAsPeople: Adam is implied to be a good dad to his daughter Emma, but he's clearly not as great a husband to his wife Amy. We're given the impression he doesn't have a stable job, and he pursues dead-end business ventures. Amy more than once is exasperated with his lack of responsibility when it comes to money or being as financially supportive to the family.

----
* DeadpanSnarker: It comes from having a mother like Amy. This is what clues Jonah in to her being Amy’s daughter.
* FirstPeriodPanic: Emma gets her first period while Jonah is watching her in "Shoplifter". He's more or less just a stranger to her: just a guy her mom works with, and he has no idea what to do in the situation. This also inadvertently results in Dina discovering her presence in the store at some point, which is not allowed within Cloud 9’s policies.

* BerserkButton: Being a "sellout" in any way - he's an aspiring rapper that hates the thought of his music being catchy.
* CatchPhrase: Constantly imitates an air-horn to punctuate his points. ''Bweh Bweh Bweeeeh!!''
* PrettyFlyForAWhiteGuy: Bo is a wannabe rapper who speaks with an inner city accent.
* RadioFriendliness: Frequently tries to overload his songs with political messages, and Cheyenne asks him to tone it down.
* TheSlacker: It's clear that Bo isn't particularly hardworking or motivated, and initially doesn't seem aware that he would have to contribute to raising Harmonica beyond occasional babysitting duties. Given that he seems to be most often out of work while Cheyenne works several jobs, however, he seems to be Harmonica's prime caretaker.
* StagedPedestrianAccident: The $5,000 he got for being hit by a car was (probably) genuine, but when faced with the cost of childcare, he mentions that he'll need to be hit by ''so'' many cars.

* LawOfInverseFertility: After she and Glenn decide to have a biological child, they find out that Jerusha's uterus is "shaped like a corkscrew" so she can't conceive.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: Fits a certain stereotype of a sensitive, cardigan-wearing wife who does needlepoint in her spare time. She is actually fairly good at it from a technical standpoint; it's mostly her ideas that make everyone uncomfortable with her work. He comes to the store and "angrily" tells Jonah he'll be "very upset" if Jonah "meddles" with his and Sandra's marriage. It is said with all the monotone timidity he usually displays, yet Sandra says she's "never seen him this angry before".
* BirdsOfAFeather: He and Sandra are both friendly, if socially inept, doormats.
* OddFriendship: With Garrett.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: His main purpose in the story is to be Sandra's love interest, and he's designed to be compatible with her in every way. His lack of personality means that when Sandra loses a coin flip with Carol that decides who gets to "keep" him, he goes along with it event though that means he has to break up with Sandra and get back together with Carol.
* SuperGullible: Garrett tells a completely fake story about their friendship at Jerry's wedding, and ''Jerry'' believes all of it.
