[[caption-width-right:207:Tenki Star]]
->Voiced by: Eisuke Yoda (JP)

The mayor of Lordlake. He has managed to keep the town together despite the hardships faced since the Rebellion.
----
* DishingOutDirt: Can use the Mother Earth Rune during War Battles.
* ImpoverishedPatrician: He used to have a noble title. But after Lord Rovere took the blame, Talgeyl had it stripped from him.
* MayorOfAGhostTown: Following the incineration of Lordlake by Queen Arshtat.
* OhCrap: His face when he sees the Sun Rune being used during the siege of Sol-Falena.
* OlderAndWiser: Once recruited, he provides the Prince with sage council.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's the only one polite to the Prince on the royal inspection.
* StolenGoodReturnedBetter: When the Prince returns water to Lordlake, he gratefully joins his cause.

->Voiced by: Koichi Toochika (JP); Creator/KirkThornton (EN)

A farmer from Lordlake and an outspoken critic of Arshtat.
----
* BigGuy: Broad shouldered, although the hat makes him look taller, too.
* CarryABigStick: More like ''log''.
* FarmBoy: Grows a vegetable garden.
* FieryRedhead: Hard to make out with his hat, but he's got very dark red hair. And is quite passionate.
* GreenThumb: His speciality. He sets up a little farm at the HQ, complete with a vegetable patch and fruit orchard.
* HotBlooded: He aggressively goes after the Hatred Fortress as it's a damn blocking water from returning to Lordlake. Toma has to talk him out of a suicidal charge from his boat.
* InHarmonyWithNature: Can't wait to farm once he gets to a greener pasture.
* ManlyTears: Bring him to the bathhouse, and he will weep for joy, since before, he could barely have a damp cloth to clean himself.
* PatrioticFervor: Towards Lordlake. He is (understandably) initially hostile to the Prince's cause.
* StolenGoodReturnedBetter: When the Prince returns water to Lordlake, he mellows out and joins his cause.
* StoneWall: He's very slow, but he wears heavy armor and hits like he's smacking someone with a log, which is actually his weapon.
* TookALevelInKindness: He gets a ''lot'' nicer when he finds out the royal family wasn't entirely responsible for Lordlake's plight.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Toma]]
[[quoteright:185:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_toma.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:185:Tenkou Star]]
->Voiced by: Creator/FumikoOrikasa (JP); Creator/MonaMarshall (EN)

A child living in Lordlake who hates Arshtat.
----
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: He's certainly got a lot of pluck, even venturing into the dangerous Withered Forest to find water.
* BigBrotherMentor: To all of the Lordlake kids.
* BrattyHalfPint: You may get an urge to hit him when you initially meet him.
* CharacterDevelopment: At the start, he's bratty, mouthy, and very prickly. After he watches the Prince solve problems, Toma realizes that he and the other people of Lordlake were sitting around waiting to be rescued. As such, when Lucretia announces the plan to take down Hatred Fortress, Toma rounds out Goesch and some men from Lordlake to assist in the battle. As he sees it, if Lordlake wants to be saved, they should get off their rears and pitch in.
* MouthyKid: Status and prestige don't intimidate him.
* PatrioticFervor: Towards Lordlake. He is (understandably) initially hostile to the Prince's cause.
* StatusBuff: In War battles, Toma has the Survival ability, which boosts his unit defense as it takes damage.
* StolenGoodReturnedBetter: Once water is returned to Lordlake, he joins the Prince's cause.
* TagalongKid: After the Prince promises to return water to Lordlake, he insists to tag along, to make sure they do it correctly.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He aggressively voices his disgust about the treatment of Lordlake by the Queen.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the game proper, he's a non-combatant. In the epilogue, he becomes ''a Queen's Knight''.
* {{Tsundere}}: Interestingly, he's a tsun for one part of the story, and dere for the rest, regardless of the people speaking to him.
* UnwantedRescue: He's thoroughly ''unhappy'' when the Prince saves him from a pack of marauding Ulse.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Silva]]
[[quoteright:187:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_silva.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:187:Chirei Star]]
->Voiced by: Kazuto Okada (JP); Creator/BarbaraGoodson (EN)

A doctor who works in Lordlake despite a royal decree making it a crime for her to do so.
----
* AmicablyDivorced: From Galleon.
* ConsummateProfessional: She is a professional doctor. As such, she dislikes using runes to heal. But the patient's life must come before her pride, so she's okay with it.
* DressedToHeal: Complete with lab-coat.
* HealingHands: In War battles, Silva has the Relief ability, which recovers 10 HP after each combat.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She doesn't exactly know what bedside manner is.
* TheMedic: Once recruited, she serves as the Prince's army physician, healing Lyon when she is badly injured by Dolph.
* ShootTheMessenger: Initially, she reserves particular contempt for the Prince, using him as a whipping post to voice her feelings about the treatment of Lordlake by the Queen.
* TheSnarkKnight: She ostensibly lacks ''any'' form of bedside manner.
* StolenGoodReturnedBetter: When the Prince returns water to Lordlake, she mellows and joins his cause.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lord Rovere]]

The former ruler of Lordlake, who was executed two years prior the events of the game for inciting the Lordlake Rebellion.
----
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Nobody can understand why he, a devoted ally of the royal family, would instigate a rebellion against the Queen. It's actually a clue that he wasn't the instigator of the Rebellion.
* PosthumousCharacter: While mentioned a good chunk of times, he's already dead by the time the game begins.
* TheScapegoat: In truth, he tried to stop the unrest in Lordlake from erupting into a rebellion, and the situation spiralled out of control because of the Barows. However, Salum made it look like Rovere was the leader of the Rebellion and stole the Dawn Rune to cover his own tracks.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He doesn't even appear properly in the game, and is only shown during a brief flashback in the manga. However, his death is actually one of the reasons why the unrest among Falena's nobility turns into a full-out civil war. Rovere used to be the leader of the moderate faction of the Falenan Senate, who maintained a careful balance in the Senate, keeping both the Barows and Godwin factions from gaining too much power. He also was a major ally of the Falenan Royal Family among the nobility. His death weakened the Royal Family, and without him the balance in the Senate soon fell, contributing to the downfall of the entire system.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: One of the few prominent aristocrats of Falena who is not corrupt or power-hungry, a good father and a noted cultured scholar. Of course he ends up killed because of a machination concocted by an other corrupt aristocrat.

!Stormfist
[[folder:Egbert Aethelbald]]
[[quoteright:194:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sv_egbert.png]]
[[caption-width-right:194:Chihei Star]]
->Voiced by: Atsushi Satou (JP)

An ''eccentric'' (and possibly mad) gentleman who claims to be a member of the family who ruled Stormfist before [[BerserkButton THOSE! FILTHY! GODWINS!]]
----
* BerserkButton: His mad, neurotic rants are triggered by any mention of the Godwins. Including ''his own mention'' of the Godwins.
* BettingMiniGame: His specialty. Once recruited, he can be challenged to a game of draughts (checkers) for potch.
* BlingOfWar: His military uniform and hat reference the British Army's Rifles Regiment circa early 1800's.
* BlueBlood: The ancient Aethelbald family can trace their line of descent even earlier than the Falenan Royal Family. His valuable family tree document acts as a PlotCoupon when recruiting Raven.
* CatchPhrase: There ''was'' an example here, but one of those FILTHY GODWIN DEVILS stole it! FILTHY, FILTHY DEVILS!
* CavalryOfficer: His position in battle, once recruited.
* CloudCuckoolander: He's ''definitely'' eccentric, if not borderline [[TheMentallyDisturbed insane]] and lives a [[BeneathTheEarth troglodyte existence]] in the sewers beneath Stormfist.
* ClusterFBomb: As seen when he launches into a venom-spewed diatribe on the Godwin family.
* ConspiracyTheorist: Everything is done by the FILTHY DEVIL GODWINS! Everything.
* DogFoodDiet: You can guess how he survived down in the sewers by how licks his lips whenever he looks at Oboro's pet Mr. Mouse.
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: The venerable Aethelbald family is analogous to Usefulnotes/TheHouseOfWessex, an ancient English dynasty displaced by UsefulNotes/TheHouseOfNormandy, who in turn are therefore analogous to ''those filthy Godwins'' in-universe.
* FunnySchizophrenia: He seems to flit instantly between being calm and polite, to a foaming lunatic if the Godwins enter his head. He's so hilarious about it, it never comes off as deranged, but rather CrazyIsCool.
* HiddenDepths: He can lead a three-star cavalry unit, giving them one use of the Charge ability. That's not the best, but consider that he's literally been living in a sewer eating rats his whole life and it suddenly sounds a lot more impressive.
* HotBlooded: In war battles, and whenever on a Godwin-hating rant.
* ImpoverishedPatrician: He is a member of the once proud Aethelbald family, which collapsed over one hundred years ago due to the machinations of the Godwin family.
* LongSpeechTeaTime: In order for him to join, the player must politely listen to his (long) rant about the Godwins, without pressing ANY button to speed up the dialogue. Fortunately, he's not [[PermanentlyMissableContent unobtainable]] if you screw up.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Both 'Egbert' and 'Aethelbald' are the names of ancient English kings from the UsefulNotes/TheHouseOfWessex. 'Aethelbald' was also a medieval Archbishop of York. Considering Egbert's ancient lineage in-series, this is a clever ShoutOut.
* NiceGuy: As strange as it sounds, when he's not ranting against the Godwins, he's actually an impeccably polite gentleman. He also joins up not just because he hates the Godwins, or a chance to seize power, but because he believes it's the right thing to do.
* QuintessentialBritishGentleman: When calm, he exhibits impeccable manners and a chivalrous tone.
* TalkativeLoon: He apparently says FILTHY DEVILS! over 100 times just walking around one corner of the sewer.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Shoon]]
[[quoteright:228:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_shoon.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:228:Tentai Star]]
->Voiced by: Takeo Irie (JP); Creator/SteveStaley (EN)

A gladiator-slave who wants the Prince's help.
----
* BadassAdorable: Unusual for a man, but with his smiling mug, friendly demeanor, and take charge behavior, he certainly qualifies.
* BareFistedMonk: Though he's not a monk.
* CommutingOnABus: He's one of the first Stars of Destiny encountered and is a prominent character early on, but he's actually the ''last'' Star to be recruited towards the very end of the game.
* CuteBruiser
* TheDogBitesBack: When the Princes forces attack Stormfist, Shoon leads the gladiators in a revolt and helps them take the city.
* DuelBoss: The first duel in the game. A friendly ceramonial match between him and the Prince to kick off the sacred games.
* FanBoy: Of Zegai.
* GladiatorRevolt: Following Godwin's occupation of Stormfist, he leads a faction of gladiators to safety through the Western Woods and eventually joins the Prince's forces.
* HeroicSpirit: Sees him through a lot of dangerous circumstances.
* IHaveAFamily: His family is constantly under watch by his master, so Shoon must obey his master and fight. If he ever tries to flee, his family will be in danger.
* ItsPersonal: Joins the Prince's forces to exact revenge for the cruel treatment of his gladiator comrades.
* KamehameHadoken: His Fierce Tiger Rune.
* KidHero: He's just 14 years old.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: His combo with Nikea consists of them beating the ever loving crap out of one enemy.
* ShoutOut: He looks like someone out of Manga/SaintSeiya.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Murad]]
[[quoteright:193:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_murad.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:193:Chijyu Star]]
->Voiced by: Issei Futamata (JP), Kim Strauss (EN)

A doctor who travels throughout the Queendom.
----
* DressedToHeal: In his lab-coat.
* HealingHands: In War battles, Murad has the Relief ability, which recovers 10 HP after each combat.
* LooksLikeCesare
* MagicAntidote: He worked hard to create an antidote to Raging Nostrum, the Nether Gate drug that drives the consumer into an uncontrollable killing frenzy and leads to death. While he is actually successful, people who take Raging Nostrum usually do so willingly, so administrating an antidote is not easy.
* TheMedic: Alongside Silva.
* NeutralNoLonger: Talk to him at the sights of battles, and he will get so angry that he joins the Prince.
* TheSmartGuy: Skilled enough to make an antidote to Dark Arcanum in six months, a drug that's supposed to be undetectable.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Marina]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_marina.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Chihi Star]]
->Voiced by: Creator/RinaSato (JP)

An employee of the Stormfist inn who is in love with Belcoot.
----

* ClingyJealousGirl: She certainly doesn't appreciate Hazuki's interest in sparring with Belcoot.
* DamselInDistress: During the Sacred Games, she is captured by thugs, who demand Belcoot to give up on the tournament.
* DoggedNiceGirl: She's clearly in love with Belcoot, although he is fairly oblivious.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: However, this later turns out to be a good thing, as Belcoot notes that the Godwins would have used some other method to get rid of him, and he is lucky to be alive.
* HappilyAdopted: The couple that run the inn are not actually Marina's parents. But she loves them regardless.
* HealingHands: In War battles, Marina has the Rest ability, which recovers 1 HP every 5 seconds.
* {{Meido}}: She works as a maid at the Stormfist Inn.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She was devastated when she finds out that Belcoot was injured because of what she did, to the point of letting out a BigNo.
* {{Oktoberfest}}: Her look, especially in her official art, is that of the typical beer-hall serving girl. She's even drawn with a huge platter of ''wurstl'' in one hand, and 4 tankards of beer in the other.
* TraumaInn: Her speciality once recruited. She runs the HQ inn. The epilogue has her inherit the Stormfist inn. Belcoot helps her on his days off at the arena.
* UnwittingPawn: Because of her infatuation with Belcoot, she was seen as a target to eliminate him by the Godwins.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: She was visited by Dolph, who gave her the drug ''Dark Arcanum''. She was desperate for Belcoot ''not'' to marry the Princess and so used the drug to [[SlippingAMickey knock Belcoot out harmlessly]], so that he could lose the final and wouldn't be wed.
[[/folder]]
----
!Raftfleet
[[folder:Raja]]
[[quoteright:292:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_raja.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:292:Tengou Star]]
->Voiced by: Hisako Kyouda (JP); Creator/BarbaraGoodson (EN)

The mayor of Raftfleet and a retired Admiral of the Falenan Navy. She comes out of retirement to help the Prince.
----
* APupilOfMineUntilHeTurnedToEvil: Bahram Luger was her student. When Godwin took over the navy, he followed.
* TheCaptain: As a former Admiral of the Queen's Royal Navy, she lends the Prince her naval skills, helping him to victory at Hatred Fortress and the Sol-Falena dam.
* CoolBoat: She commands Raftfleet from a giant, triple dragon-headed warship named Dahak.
* CoolOldLady: She's capable and intelligent without being condescending. Arshtat points out that having her as a friend would be a great benefit.
* CulturedBadass: Very fond of tea parties.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Her abilities were not recognized during the war because she was a member of the 'lower class'. {{Subverted}} when she rose to Admiral after the war.
* FourStarBadass: She's a VERY good admiral.
* NeverMessWithGranny: Her appointment as Admiral wasn't through nepotism...
* RedBaron: "Hurricane Raja", due to her prowess at war.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Logg]]
[[quoteright:259:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sv_logg.png]]
[[caption-width-right:259:Chitan Star]]
->Voiced by: Masaru Ikeda (JP)

A simple minded fisherman. Logg uses his boat to transport the Prince around the Feitas river.
----
* AnchorsAway: He wields the Shenzhen Iron Anchor.
* BadassFamily: Father in one.
* BumblingDad: He tries not to be, but he's a little too eager and a little too dim and things just don't go well.
* CombinationAttack: ''Dad and Daughter Attack'' (with Lun) and ''Family Attack'' (with Lun and Kisara).
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Eventually, you learn he used to smuggle fugitives. Also remember that this is the guy who destroyed a dam by [[RammingAlwaysWorks crashing several explosive boats at its supports]]...''personally''. Looks like there's a reason Kisara marries him after all.
* FishingMinigame: His speciality. A fisherman by trade, he naturally competes in it.
* LovableRogue: BigFun and friendly, but he's also a human smuggler, albeit a benign one.
* MightyGlacier: Slow as a rock, but that anchor hits hard.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Inverted. Logg and Lun look almost completely dissimilar. Gunde doesn't even believe Logg has a daughter until Lun opens her mouth. That convinces him.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With his daughter Lun.
* UglyGuyHotWife: In-universe: his wife is considered so smoking hot that people knew of her outside Raftfleet, and she seemingly didn't show any interest in Logg until she abruptly announced they were marrying, provoking other men of Raftfleet into all but ''attacking'' him out of jealousy.
* UtilityMagic: He had the fastest ship in all of Falena because he had the crazy idea to embed a Flowing Rune into the ship's hull.
* ZanyScheme: He comes up with these pretty quickly.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lun]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_lun.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Chikaku Star]]
->Voiced by: Touka Ooura (JP); Lia Sargent (EN)

Logg's slightly more level headed daughter.
----
* ActionGirl: A mixture of her parents; decent at both melee with a harpoon and decent in magic, especially Fire and Water.
* BadassFamily: Daughter in one.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has a well-endowed figure that her {{Sarashi}} can barely contain. During a BathtubBonding scene, her ChildhoodFriend Subala [[ACupAngst sulks that Lun's breasts are bigger than hers]].
* CombinationAttack: ''Dad and Daughter Attack'' (with Logg), ''Family Attack'' (with Logg and Kisara) and ''Petty Rivals'' (with Subala).
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown eyes and hair.
* DragonRider: Breaking through the gender barrier in the process.
* FishingMinigame: One of the competitors, and tends to spend most of it snarking at Subala.
* HarpoonGun: She hurls fishing harpoons in combat.
* LittleMissSnarker: Her father's daughter, through and through.
* LovableRogue: Gets caught stealing when you first meet, but you find out she's actually not a bad person at all.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Lun is popular with the guys her age around Raftfleet because she's stacked, which makes Subala [[ACupAngst green with envy.]] But even Lun feels "small" compared to the gargantuan size of her mom's boobs.
* {{Sarashi}}: She sports a traditional Japanese body wrap. Which does [[SuppressedMammaries very little]] to hold down her [[BuxomBeautyStandard large breasts]].
* SmittenTeenageGirl: It isn't long before she develops an obvious crush on the Prince, but in true ''Suikoden'' tradition, she never tells him and he completely fails to notice her affections.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Logg.
* {{Tomboy}}: Less so than Subala, but she still exhibits this in her rowdiness, manner of dressing and her crass violence (much like her dad).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kisara]]
[[quoteright:349:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_kisara.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:349:Chisatsu Star]]
->Voiced by: Yoko Sasaki (JP)

Logg's wife and Raja's right hand. She keeps her husband and daughter in line.
----
* ActionMom: And mom-type, to Subala and the rest of Raftfleet.
* AlmightyMom: Both Logg and Lun do NOT want to cross her.
* BadassFamily: Mother in one.
* BlackMagicianGirl: High magical skills and skilled with all types of magic.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has a well-endowed figure and seems to be a major DudeMagnet due to it.
* CloserToEarth: Compared to her far wackier husband and daughter.
* CombinationAttack: ''Family Attack'' (with Logg and Lun).
* HeadTurningBeauty: When she was young, she was the desire of all the men in Raftfleet and beyond.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: She uses a mooring rope for combat.
* InnocentInnuendo: Possibly, depending on how you read her FuroScene conversation with Lun and Subala. She may be fully aware of what it sounds like and teasing both of them.
* NumberTwo: She's is the Vice-admiral of Raftfleet and serves as Admiral Raja's aide and second-in-command.
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: She keeps this very much a secret and indeed, the announcement of her engagement to Logg lead to him receiving ''death threats''. The fact that he rammed a flaming, explosive boat ''personally'' against a dam without breaking a sweat might have something to do with it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Subala]]
[[quoteright:349:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suikodenv_subala.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:349:Chikei Star]]
->Voiced by: Yoko Sasaki (JP)

Lun's best friend / rival and a talented fisherwoman.
----
* ACupAngst: Has gone from being Lun's friend to her rival based in part on this.
* AnimeHair: She sports Dragon Ball Z style spikes.
* BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame: She is a fisherwoman, and the Prince needs to beat her at fishing in order for her to join. Lun insists the contest be at the Sindar Ruins Castle to ensure a fair contest, as Subala has never fished there before.
* CombinationAttack: She can perform ''Petty Rivals'' with Lun.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: The Prince must best her in a fishing contest if she is to join.
* {{FanGirl}}: She's instantly smitten with the Prince.
* FishingMinigame: Her speciality, which is staged as a four-way contest between Subala, the Prince, Lun and Logg, complete with lots of {{Trash Talk}}ing and boat ramming.
* GogglesDoNothing: Has a pair of swimming goggles in her forehead.
* LadyLooksLikeADude: Subala looks far more like an adolescent ''boy'' than a girl. The Prince can even mistakes her for Lun's boyfriend. She doesn't take it well when someone mistakes her for a boy.
* ProngsOfPoseidon: She wields a trident in combat.
* TheRival: With Lun, on a variety of matters. Boyfriends, fishing ability, and even boob size.
* {{Sarashi}}: The top half of her shirt is completely open, so she only covers her chest with a bunch of bandages. Technically, it means she's walking in public while exposing the equivalent of a bra, but because of her boyish appearance nobody comments on this. [[ACupAngst A fact which annoys her.]]
* SecondHandStorytelling: Lun allegedly stole her boyfriend, which kicked off their rivalry, although Lun has no memory of this.
* {{Tomboy}}: Besides ''looking'' more like a boy than a girl she also acts more masculine than even her fellow Raftfleet tomboy Lun.
* {{Tsundere}}: Non-romantic example. It's clear from the start that she wants to join the Prince's army, but she's too proud to admit it in front of Lun. If the Prince loses the minigame to recruit her, she will react with anger, before regaining her composure in order to not lose face.

A skilled merchant living out his retirement in Raftfleet.
----
* ChinesePeople: Complete with conical straw hat and sake gourd.
* CoolOldGuy: The people of Raftfleet love his skills as a trader.
* IntrepidMerchant: In his youth he was a legendary trader, and once recruited, sets up a trading post at the HQ.
* ChainOfDeals: For him to join, it is necessary to buy out the salt in other trading posts so the price sky-rockets. He will then ask how the Prince will rectify this. Sell at least 6 salts immediately to reduce the price. He then joins immediately, [[SoProudOfYou impressed with the young Prince's business acumen.]]
* GuideDangIt: Like a few other characters in ''5'', his recruitment process is particularly [[TrialAndErrorGameplay specific]]. Stockpiling salt before undertaking his recruitment will help immensely.
* MysteriousPast: Hinted to have shady dealings in the past. That could be why his son and daughter-in-law were killed.
* PromotionToParent: He has taken care of Shinro, his grandson, since the death of his son and daughter-in-law.
* TenMinuteRetirement: He comes back in when there is a crisis, as salt is a valuable commodity. He also helps out Shinro after the came ends.

* NiceGuy: The worst emotion he expresses is slight annoyance with Godwin's lack of interest in commerce.
* PerpetualSmiler: He's quite cheerful.
* RaisedByGrandparents: He was taken in by his grandpa Sairoh, following the death of his parents.
* SignatureDevice: He's never without his trusty abacus.
* StoutStrength: Oboro is amazed that he uses a gigantic abacus to count change, and reasons Shinro must be incredibly strong.
* WeBuyAnything: Sell any item and he'll give a fair price. The only thing he won't deal in is trade goods.
* WeSellEverything: Once recruited, his item store carries any item that has been found available in any other item store already visited by the Prince, though of course there is NoHeroDiscount.
* WellDoneSonGuy: He wants to be just as good a merchant as Sairoh. Although a less malignant example: Sairoh is infinitely helpful.

A skilled chef who has devoted his life to looking after his daughter, Shun Min.
-----
* AscendedExtra: He is a minor character in Suikoden II, but returns as a Star of Destiny in V.
* BrotherhoodOfFunnyHats: He was trained by the Black Dragon Clan of chefs, and is one of the 4 masters.
* ChekhovsGun: The legendary "mythical sashimi" recipe he covets, explained below.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: Retso in ''V'' can look a little goofy sporting UnusualEyebrows. Retso in ''2'' sports a BadassCape, badass mask that covers his mouth and a [[GoodScarsEvilScars scar on his eye]] that he looks more threatening.
* FaceHeelTurn: Retso in ''V'' is a mild-mannered father who worries that he's not a good father to Shun Min. When he appears in ''II'', he has become bitter due to Shun Min's death and serves the more antagonistic role against Hai Yo. [[HeelFaceTurn He got better in the end, thankfully.]]
* FetchQuest: He seeks to unlock the mysteries of the legendary ''mythical fish sashimi'', and will only join the Prince if he brings him the ''strange fish'', which can be caught when playing Subala's FishingMiniGame.
* ForegoneConclusion: Players familiar with ''Suikoden II's'' epic CookingDuel (which occurs ''after'' the events of ''5'') will be familiar with what the future holds for Retso (and Shun Min). Retso makes progress with the Sashimi, and after the war, he perfects the recipe, and locks it away. Years later, he meets the chef Jinkai, who convinces him to use the recipe. Shun Min disagreed with this and stole the recipe, giving it to her lover, ''Suikoden 2's'' Hai Yo, to keep safe. But [[DoomedByCanon she was killed afterwards]]. Retso blamed Hai Yo for her death and sent members of the Black Dragon Group after him to get the recipe back. But Hai Yo, who had joined Riou's castle in the Dunan Army, [[CookingDuel fought off chef after chef]]. Retso decides to handle things himself, and, using his artlike knife work and presentation skills, hypnotizes the judges to make them think he had made the perfect food. Retso takes the recipe and is about to leave, but Hai Yo tells him the "Moon Bird" recipe is just something to satisfy Jinkai's lust for power. Retso gives Hai Yo another chance, and says he'll return later. After Hai Yo learns Retso's trick, he comes back and Retso fights fair, but loses. Retso realizes Shun Min was right, and returns the recipe to Hai Yo for safekeeping. *Phew*
* HopelessBossFight: In his first cooking duel with him, he'll cheat and hypnotize the judges to giving him a perfect score. It took Hai Yo to realize he was cheating when he dueled Lester, and confronted him before their duel. Retso promised to duel him fair-and-square in their second duel.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: He ate up Jinkai's promises about his 'goal' immediately when Shun Min can detect his crap from miles away. And he needed Hai Yo to beat him and Jinkai in a duel to finally make him realize Shun Min was right and convince Jinkai to reject his plan altogether.
* OddFriendship: With Logg. Logg envies Retso's parenting because Shun Min is a well behaved and polite little girl. Retso, however, admires Logg for letting Lun be a child.
* TeamChef: His speciality, once recruited.
* UnusualEyebrows: A family trait, shaped like quotation marks.
* YellowPeril: His look -- the mustache, east-Asian outfit, the beautiful daughter etc, but not his personality. He fits the personality when he was an enemy in ''II'', but he didn't have the look anymore.

----
* AscendedExtra: She's plays a huge role in the backstory of Hai Yo in II, but makes no appearance on account of being dead. Like her father, she's a Star of Destiny in V.
* CharacterDeath: After the Falenan Civil War is over, Shun Min is unfortunately killed by the Black Dragon Group trying to prevent the Moon Bird recipe to be misused.
* CheerfulChild: Sweet and lovely.
* ChineseGirl: Her outfit invokes this, with it's long sleeves and bell-like cuffs.
* CloserToEarth: Compared to her father, Retso.
* DoomedByCanon: As mentioned in her father Retso's entry above, after the events of ''Suikoden 5'', but before the events of ''Suikoden 2'', she steals the 'Moon Bird' recipe and gives it to chef Hai Yo. However, Jinkai's thugs catch and kill her just as she secrets the recipe away.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Despite raising fish for her father to cook, she feels bad about their fate and is often moved to tears if diners can't finish their meals, feeling that her fish had died for nothing.
%%%* {{Kawaiiko}}
* UnusualEyebrows: Just like her father's.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: Beneath the CheerfulChild appearance, Shun Min is perceptive and grows while further honing it. It's to the point that she manages to detect that Jinkai's plan is not at all good when her father couldn't, while she ended up paying for it with her life, she managed to entrust her will for Jinkai's eventual downfall to Hai Yo.

A beautiful (but haughty) fashionista living in Haud. Really Shuya Valya's younger sister, who left Armes to get out of her brother's shadow.
----
* ActionFashionista: She's obsessed with fashion, and is a powerful early magic-user for the active party.
* TheBeautifulElite: She's a beautiful young woman despite her spoiled, haughty tone, and is the daughter of a high-status Armes family.
* BlueBlood: The young daughter of the Valya clan.
* TheCastShowoff: InUniverse. Her personal [[UselessUsefulSpell Red Rose Rune attack]] sees the screen darken and a spotlight land on her whilst she pirouettes into battle for a combo attack. The trade-off is that the other party members are unimpressed with her show-boating and enter a "grumpy" status.
* CollaredByFashion: She wears a velvet choker incorporating a small rose motif.
* TheFashionista: So she thinks. In fact, she will only join the Prince if he is accompanied by others she considers fellow "fashion divas", namely Sialeeds or Sharmista. Once recruited, she makes multiple attempts to convince the Prince to develop what she sees as a "proper" fashion sense, to no avail.
* TheFightingNarcissist: She's the first lady narcissist in the series available for the active party.
* FlowerMotifs: Specifically roses, as with most other narcissist encountered in the series.
* FluffyFashionFeathers: She wears a fascinator with two huge, white feathers projecting from it.
* GirlyBruiser: She's a snobbish narcissist, make no mistake. She's also a great mage early on in the game, with an affinity for the Fire Rune.
* GorgeousPeriodDress: Her outfit and hair-style (or perhaps powdered wig) reference the opulently decadent Georgian era.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Whereas her fellow narcissist Esmeralda was obsessed with her own beauty, Josephine is wrapped up in her own sense of style.
* {{Leitmotif}}: The narcissist's theme "Scarleticia Castle" plays whenever the Prince interacts with her.
* ParasolOfPain: She wields a spike-tipped parasol named Melusine like a [[RoyalRapier fencing foil]] in combat.
* ParasolOfPrettiness: (but see above -- it doubles as a weapon.)
* PimpedOutDress: She wears a voluminous pink and red gown that [[OfCorsetsSexy cinches her waist]].
* PinkMeansFeminine: Her whole outfit is different shades of pink.
* ProudBeauty: Her beauty is only matched by her haughtiness.
* RegalRinglets: Her hair (or perhaps powdered wig) is piled up in a huge coiffure of ringlets.
* RoyalBrat: She is ''particularly'' caustic if the Prince attempts to recruit her without Sialeeds present, and is appalled at his apparent lack of fashion sense. She does mellow a little once recruited.
* TheRunaway: It turns out that she has run away from Armes as she felt unappreciated and in her brother Shula's shadow.
* ShoutOut: She's possibly named after Napoleon Bonaparte's wife, the first Empress of France. She also seems to have aspects of ''UsefulNotes/MarieAntoinette''.

----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: He bears a rather creepy resemblance to the [=DoReMi=] elves he covets.
* BattleThemeMusic: Having him in the active party remix's the battle music to a more classical variation.
* CartoonConductor: The elves certainly qualify Cornelio.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Never opens his eyes, not even during war battles.
* FatBastard: Downplayed. He is just an irritable, chubby composer who calls everyone "mediocre".
* FetchQuest: He demands that the Prince return his elves one by one, thereby PuttingTheBandBackTogether.
* GottaCatchThemAll: His [=DoReMi=] Rune allows him to capture [=DoReMi=] Elves and adds them to the party.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Fights with his conductor wand.
* MakingASplash: Can use the Flowing Rune during War Battles.
* MonsterRoommate: He had assembled a bizarre orchestra of (normally dangerous) [=DoReMi=] elves in his Haud Village home, which were defeated and dispersed by the Prince when he entered his house.
* MusicAndSoundEffects: His speciality - talking to him lets the player hear the various tunes used throughout the game.
* SummonMagic: He wields the unique [=DoReMi=] Rune, which allows him to summon [=DoReMi=] elves to attack or put enemies to sleep.
* SourSupporter: He has a habit of referring to nearly all other members of the Prince's army as "mediocrities". He's not a bad person, however, just really, really, ''really'' proud of his musical talent to the point of narcissism.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Has this dynamic with Josephine.

* FetchQuest: Like all other appraisers in the series, he must be brought a certain mystery item in order for him join. The item in question is a painting by the legendary artist, Ivanov, of ''Suikoden 1'' fame.
* GrailInTheGarbage: The painting in question is often found out in the wilderness after it's dropped by random monsters.
* {{Hustler}}: He views himself as something of a conman, especially amongst the wealthy, gullible citizens of Haud, as he has no real interest in appraising. Given the quality of 'art' by the 'artists' of Haud, it's not hard to see why.

* HeadbuttingHeroes: Does not get along with the loud Volga.
* HeelFaceTurn: Mostly because his village got torched.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: He knows that his position would make him seem an enemy to the others of Lelcar, but he knows there is no other choice. If Zahhak was allowed to do things directly, things would be a lot worse. He's eventually proven right.
* NecessarilyEvil: Tries to minimize the problems by working with the Godwin.
