A young girl with a peculiar sense of style who always carries around a big pointer. A self-designated creator, she claims that she builds various useful items, but the details are unknown. She semi-forcefully decides to join protagonists throughout history on their ventures, most frequently as a supporting craftswoman, but sometimes as a direct combatant as well.
----
* TheBlacksmith: In some games, she appears as a [=NPC=] responsible for ItemCrafting.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: In The Last Hope, Welch slacks off, performs cosplay while on duty and pulls pranks but she is still a good support operative and efficient synthesis aid.
* CrashIntoHello: In Second Evolution. Notable in that she falls from the sky and on top of Claude/Rena...
* CrutchCharacter: In Second Evolution. Depending on your party makeup, Lv.30 Welch can be recruited while your main team is only half that level. Sure, they catch up to her, but...
* EroticDream: There is a skit in Till the End of Time where she's asleep at her desk. During which, she's apparently dreaming of having a make-out session, since she can be heard making kissing sounds in between playfully telling whoever she's with to stop. Followed by, "not here".
* ExpressiveAccessory: Her "handy stick" sometimes changes form to better fit the situation. For example, in The Last Hope it will open its palm when Welch raises it to her ear to listen something, and go limp when Welch puts it away. In the promotional render for The Last Hope it's seen making a V-sign. When Welch is playable, it can also change into a palm or a fist to slap and punch enemies.
* GenkiGirl: She's always cheerful and upbeat.
* GirlishPigtails: Her usual hairstyle. Subverted in The Last Hope, in which she has purple hair tied by a single ribbon.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: She fights with "handy sticks" - which are sticks with a pointing hand at the end. She uses it to slap, poke, or punch enemies.
* MysteriousPast: Her origin is unknown, but she is implied to be a . In Till the End of Time, this would explain how she has a compact communicator, which is far too advanced for Elicoor II's level of technology. It'd also explain the similarity between the way she dresses and Blair's attire. And it could be the reason she's always the same age in each game, since
* NiceGal: Very friendly. In The Last Hope, she continues to help the crew after .
* OptionalPartyMember: She can be recruited in the UpdatedReRelease version of the first and second games.
* Otaku: In Second Evolution, you can go to a "fanfic" (doujinshi) sale in Fun City. In one Private Action, Welch will drag Claude there forcibly. And she is very...ahem...familiar with the various genres.
* PluckyComicRelief: She provides a good portion of the fourth's game humor.
* ThePrankster: In 4, she enjoys trolling the crew of the Calnus.
* PromotedToPlayable: Welch appears as a playable character in First Departure, Second Evolution and Anamnesis.
* RecurringCharacter: Welch appears in every Star Ocean game starting from the third game. She's nonexistent in the original versions of the first and second game, but when both got remade, she made it to both as a playable character.
* ShipperOnDeck: In 4, Welch ships Edge and Reimi. She also shows great interest in Faize and Lymle after they accidentally kiss.
* SignificantBirthDate: According to Anamnesis, her birthday is on AprilFoolsDay.
* Tomboy: The dictionary in The Last Hope defines her as "a beautiful, if tomboyish, young operator who provides external support for the Calnus from the USTA's Earth headquarters."
* VoiceWithAnInternetConnection: In The Last Hope, Welch speaks to the crew through a holographic projector, but she serves the same purpose.
* YaoiFangirl: In First Departure during a private action, Welch is seen talking with the fangirl trio who try to pitch to her their yaoi fanfiction, which she gets a bit excited about. Make what you will as well of the fact that her favourite food is chocolate-dipped banana.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: She's usually a blonde with GirlishPigtails, and wears blue-and-black clothes. Come The Last Hope, and she suddenly has purple hair, wears glasses, and her outfit is purple with orange tights. Her later designs are much closer to her usual look.

A young prankster girl.
----
* TheBlacksmith: She is an inventor in Till the End of Time.
* ButtMonkey: Most of her encounters with the current player party usually end up with either her tripping when running away from them followed by a ComedicUnderwearExposure and dropping an item that the party needs to progress or being fed something that makes her sick, although since she's usually the one to start trouble with the party, she usually has it coming.
* ThePrankster: Loves playing pranks on the main characters.
* RecurringCharacter: Appears in every Star Ocean game.

!!Ruddle Crispin

A traveler who is always lost.
----
* LethalJokeWeapon: In 2, he grants you a Scumbag Slayer, a otherwise pathetic sword that instantly kills any enemy with "Scumbag" in its name.
* NoSenseOfDirection: A RunningGag in the series. Ruddle is frequently lost and asks the player for directions.
* RecurringCharacter: Appears in every Star Ocean game.
* UnexpectedVirgin: Claims to have never had a girlfriend.

!!Gabriel Celeste and Ethereal Queen
Two recurring superbosses in the series. They're often fought at the bottom levels of the Maze of Tribulations (or Wandering Dungeon in [=SO4=]).
----
* BattleThemeMusic: Have their own battle theme, "The Incarnation of Devil".
* InconsistentDub:
** Gabriel Celeste also goes by "Gabriella Celesta" in FD and [=SO2=]. In [=SO3=], he is called "Gabriel Celesta".
** Ethereal Queen's name was translated as "Iseria Queen" in [=SO2=].
* LegacyBossBattle: They are also bosses in other Creator/TriAce games, like VideoGame/ValkyrieProfile, VideoGame/RadiataStories and VideoGame/InfiniteUndiscovery.
* LightIsNotGood: They're called Celestial Beings, have angelic motifs and halos, but are bosses.
* Superboss: They're usually the most powerful secret bosses in the games (though Freya is stronger than them in [=SO3=]).
