[[folder: Characters debuting in ''The Order of Dawn'']]
!!The Phoenix Guard
The PlayerCharacter of ''The Order of Dawn''. The Phoenix Guard is a Rune Warrior who has regained her free will as Rohen gave her her Rune Stone. In ''Order'', she has a tendency to be an UnwittingPawn in almost every plot the villains think of. She later got hold of the [[SealedGoodInACan Phoenix Stone]] and decided to guard it with her life.

In ''Shadow of the Phoenix'', the Stone becomes an important item needed to defeat the BigBad. The expansion also established that the Phoenix Guard is canonically female.

----
* BerserkButton: The Dark One killing [[spoiler: both Rohen and later Sartarius]] right in front of her after trapping her in ice ''really'' pissed her off. RoaringRampageOfRevenge ensued.
* DeadpanSnarker: Sometimes.
-->''(when a dentist asks her to retrieve medical supplies stolen by some goblins)'' "I find the thought of goblins pulling one another's teeth out highly interesting, but I'll keep an eye out."
-->''(after freeing a captured merchant)'' "The ogres and the beastmen certainly took a liking to your goods. Looks like your cargo was distributed across half the country."
* DealWithTheDevil: The deal with [[spoiler: Hokan Ashir to get intel on the Phoenix Stone.]] Even though it ended up being NiceJobBreakingItHero, it was necessary, [[spoiler: the power of the Phoenix being [[ChekhovsSkill the only thing able to kill a Mage of the Circle]].]]
* {{Determinator}}: Not a single thing will stop the Phoenix Guard from trying to stop the Dark One, especially after he makes it personal.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: After the events of ''Order'', the Phoenix Guard really just want to be left alone, so that she can guard the Phoenix Stone in peace. However, she answers the call of Darius one more time in ''Shadow of the Phoenix''. [[spoiler: After the events of ''Shadow'', she's BroughtDownToNormal as the magic of the Circle Mages are broken, and the Phoenix has been released from its Stone. She then worked to rebuild the Order of Dawn.]]
* ItsPersonal: As if killing [[spoiler: Rohen]] wasn't enough, the Dark One also kills [[spoiler: Sartarius]], all this by using the Guard as a MacGuffinDeliveryService, then trapping her in ice and performing the murder. The first time, the Guard was angry. The second time, not even the entire [[MechaMooks Blade army]] could stop her.
-->"It's time to put an end to this game, here and now! No more deception, no more intrigue! I will challenge that bastard! I will pursue him, even if I have to go to the bottom of Barga Gor! That much, I owe Sartarius."
* MacGuffinDeliveryService: Has a tendency to end up as this.
* [[NiceGuy Nice Gal]]: In contrast with the Shadow Warrior from ''The Breath of Winter'', the Phoenix Guard is generally nice to the people she meets... unless they push it too far, that is. In which case...
** BewareTheNiceOnes
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Repeatedly, though hardly willingly. [[spoiler:Giving the Mask of Bélial to Hokan's ghost notably led to the events of ''Shadow of the Phoenix''. However, she did her part in fixing that particular mistake.]]
* PassingTheTorch: Not directly, but via a friend. [[spoiler: Should the Shaper Conqueress pass the test of the Dracon in '' Dragon Storm'', Craig would gift her a set of armour and his twin blades. Equipping the armour would reveal that the armour was the one worn by the Phoenix Guard as shown on the cover of ''Order''.]]
* RetiredBadass: By the time of ''2''. A merchant who appeared in ''Faith in Destiny'' didn't believe her when she said that she was the Phoenix Guard, or had with her a robe made by Tanara (the famed seamstress who appeared back in ''Order'').
* UnwittingPawn: She got hit really hard with this. Almost every villain in the story manipulates her at some point. [[spoiler: It is also revealed that she was an unwitting pawn in maintaining the StableTimeLoop]]

!!Rohen Tahir
Rohen is the (apparently) stereotypical good old wizard and the last one of a group of powerful mages called ''The Circle''. He survived the [[EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt Convocation ritual]] and tried to help the people to get back on their feet and founded the Order of Dawn. This is a group of knights intending to maintain order in the broken world. He is the one who summoned the Phoenix Guard into the world, thus beginning the story of ''Order''. [[spoiler: He gets killed by the Dark One in the middle of the story.]] He shares a strange connection with the [[BigBad Dark One]]. [[spoiler: In fact, he was the Dark One in his youth, and after reading the Convocation Book and learning about the futility of the Convocation ritual, he tried to stop his younger self. Later, Darius (or Ereon, to be more precise) helped him with creating portals.]]

[[spoiler: He is resurrected by Hokan Ashir during ''Shadow of the Phoenix'', though he is killed afterwards.]]
----

* AnIcePerson: At the end of the tutorial.
* AnimateDead: [[spoiler: He comes back during ''Shadow of the Phoenix'', resurrected by the BigBad, though he is killed afterwards.]]
* TheAtoner: For his past [[spoiler: as the Dark One.]]
* BigGood: Shares this with Darius.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:The resurrection ritual binds his will to Hokan Ashir.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: He was the Dark One in his youth.]]
* IHatePastMe: Towards [[spoiler: the Dark One, his younger self.]]
* StableTimeLoop: [[spoiler: He created one by traveling back in time to prevent his younger self from committing the mistakes he did, which results in the events of the game.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: Knowing his full background spoils the plot of ''Order''.

!!The Dark One
This is the main villain of ''Order''. The Dark One is also a surviving mage of the Circle. He owns an army of MechaMooks, and is fond of using ice magic. The Dark One manipulates multiple people in the first campaign, including the Phoenix Guard. His plan was to travel back in time to manipulate past events to become all powerful. And he succeeds in the 'traveling back' part... [[spoiler: However, it is revealed that this person is actually a younger Rohen. When the young Rohen traveled back in time, he realized that he was making a big mistake. During his years in the past, he aged into the older version mentioned above. He tried to prevent his younger self from making the mistakes he made his own youth. In doing so, he created a time loop.]]

----

* BigBad
* EvilSorcerer: Complete with an EvilLaugh.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: After traveling back in time and realizing that he really was mistaken after all, he becomes Rohen, the BigGood.]]
* AnIcePerson: He likes ice magic...a lot. Almost everyone he kills is frozen beforehand.
* InTheHood: Until TheReveal.
* MechaMooks: The Dark One stole these mooks from another Circle mage.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
* PlayingWithFire: In the opening cutscene only.
* StableTimeLoop: [[spoiler: The future version of him creates one to try and stop him.]]
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler: Of Rohen and Darius.]]
* WhamShot: [[spoiler: When he is revealed to be young Rohen.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: His true identity is one.

!!Hokan Ashir / [[spoiler: The Masked One]]
The most powerful necromancer and a Circle Mage like Rohen. He was deceased before the events of ''Order''.[[spoiler: Hokan is first seen in ''Order'', looking for the Mask of Belial, which would resurrect him. While he appears to be aiding the Rune Warriors, he ultimately wants to resurrect the Circle Mages, and bind them to his will, using the blood of a god (in this case, from Ereon, who is Darius's true identity). He is the main antagonist of ''Shadow of the Phoenix''. But, his schemes were destroyed together with him when the Phoenix was released from its Stone.]]

His daughter, Yasha, appears in ''Dragon Storm''.
----
* WalkingSpoiler: Knowing his identity during ''Shadow of the Phoenix'' is a big spoiler to the expansion's plot.

!!Darius Servil
An old scholar and friend of Rohen, as well as the author of the [[McGuffin Convocation Book]]. He also appears in a SideQuest in ''The Breath of Winter''. [[spoiler: In ''Shadow of the Phoenix'', it is revealed that Darius is actually Ereon, god of knowledge and justice. He is taken prisoner by the BigBad and [[TheyWouldCutYouUp his blood is used to raise the rest of the Circle.]]]]

----

* BigGood: [[spoiler: Seeing how he's the one behind both Rohen's HeelFaceTurn and the creation of the portals...]]
* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler: What he pulls on Rohen.]]
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler: He wrote the book about the consequences of the Convocation Ritual, triggering Rohen's HeelFaceTurn, and gave him the power of making portals.]]
* GodInHumanForm: [[spoiler: He is actually Ereon, one of the gods.]]
* GuileHero
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Against Zazhut in ''Spellforce 2: Demons of the Past''.]]
* MisterExposition: You can ask him various questions about the world and its history.
* TheSmartGuy: [[spoiler: Comes with his portfolio]]
* WalkingSpoiler: The Dryad is right when she says that he is more than what he seems.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Characters debuting in ''The Breath of Winter'']]
!!The Shadow Warrior

A Rune Warrior and the main protagonist of ''The Breath of Winter'', he wields the legendary Shadow Blade, a weapon that is able to slay a Fial Darg effortlessly, but turns its wielder into a [[LivingShadow Shadow]]. This is, eventually, the Warrior's fate. He returns in ''Shadow Wars'' and its expansions, where he helps the Soul Carrier to befriend his new people and later assist Nightsong with ruling the Norcaines. He can also become a party member in ''Faith in Destiny''.
----
* BlessedWithSuck: As a Rune Warrior, the Shadow Warrior owns the only weapon able to kill a Fial Darg. However, said weapon is slowly corrupting him and turning him into a LivingShadow. And there's nothing to prevent that.
* CallBack: When the Soul Carrier meets him in the Iron Fields, one of the first thing he says is how the Shadow Warrior saved the world from Aryn, which is the main plot of ''Breath of Winter''.
* CursedWithAwesome: [[spoiler: As a Shadow, the Shadow Warrior is basically an invisible eldritch Fial Darg-slaying assassin.]]
* CynicismCatalyst: [[spoiler: The death of Lena and his transformation into a Shadow did this.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: [[spoiler: After becoming a Shadow, he still remains a good person at heart.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: ''Twice''. The first time when he decide to wield the Shadow Blade to stop the Fial Darg, knowing the weapon's nasty side effect. The second time when he helps the Masked Man in return for a temporary cure against said nasty side effect.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: The Shadow Blade is the only weapon able to kill a Fial Darg, but in game, its stats are rather poor, and it starkly decreases the wielder's resistance to magic.
* HeelFaceTurn: Works for the Masked Man, [[spoiler: aka. Hokan Ashir]], for awhile, but decides to quit after meeting with the dryad in Empyria, and does his best to stop the necromancer's schemes.
* HonestAdvisor: [[spoiler: To Nightsong after she became Empress of the Norcaine. There are hints that he enforces discipline on individuals who do not think highly of Nightsong.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: The logic behind said HeelFaceTurn. The Shadow Warrior is doomed no matter what he does. The Masked Man's remedy only [[spoiler: slows down his soul's corruption from the Shadow Blade. In the end, he ''will'' become a Shadow. And he does.]] Rather than following the Masked Man in hopes of delaying his fate, the Shadow Warrior rebels against his employer, who he knows is a bad guy.
* ImHavingSoulPains: The corrupting effect of the Shadow Blade is mentally painful and physically exhausting.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Compared to the Phoenix Guard, he is much more ruthless and hard-spoken. Must come with dealing with the Dark Races of Urgath. But he is still a hero.
* LivingShadow: [[spoiler: His eventual fate.]]
* OnlyICanKillHim: Thanks to the Shadow Sword being the only thing able to kill a Fial Darg, the Shadow Warrior is the go-to person when one of these monsters starts a rampage.
* PowerAtAPrice: However, the Shadow Sword also corrupts its bearer's soul and slowly turns him into a Shadow. [[spoiler: This is the Warrior's eventual fate.]]
* PowerUpgradingDeformation: [[spoiler: Once the corruption is complete, the Shadow Warrior becomes a Shadow, an EldritchAbomination / LivingShadow who is usually invisible but can become visible at will and mostly uses said ability for assassination.]]
* TrueCompanions: With Lena, the two having fought together before his eventual return at the beginning of the campaign. [[spoiler: When the Fial Darg backstabs her, he made sure the bastard goes down. Hard.]] And he is more than happy to help her get back at Grimaud for fooling her and betraying her.
* WhatTheHellHero: Calls out the Phoenix Guard for [[spoiler: bringing Hokan back.]] In the Guard's defence, she didn't really have a choice.

!!Lena
----
* BestServedCold: Pun non-intended. It takes time to reunite with Grimaud, but when we do, Lena is more than happy to ice him.
* DroppedABridgeOnHer: Is killed by the Fial Darg just before Cenwen can be rescued. The Shadow Warrior ''doesn't'' take it well.
* AnIcePerson: Learned Ice Magic with the elves of Tirganach.
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: Delivers a delicious one to Grimaud after reuniting with him.
-->"Me too, Grimaud...because I know how much you hate cold!" ''(proceeds to freeze the bastard to death)''
* TrueCompanions: With the Shadow Warrior.
* WomanScorned: After Grimaud fools her into fighting the ice elves and releasing the Fial Darg, she is ''pissed''.

!!Grimaud
----

!!Aryn

The strongest dragon Eo has ever known and Creator of the ice elves, he is usually sleeping in the Frostweaver's Den, listening to Cenwen's songs. Then she is kidnapped and he awakens in rage.
----
* BerserkButton: Don't touch Cenwen. Just don't.
* TheDreaded: Even the ''Norcaines'', or at least the most reasonable of them, are scared of his fury. The ice elves make rescuing Cenwen and calming him a top priority.
* FinalBoss: Aryn is the final opponent fought in the ''The Breath of Winter'' campaign.
* GoodIsNotSoft: He is more of a TrueNeutral, but is a benevolent entity despite his powers. Piss him off, though, and it's Ice Age 2.0 coming for you. Apparently, his powers are so strong that the mountains shattered and released undead armies when he awoke.
* [[AnIcePerson An Ice Dragon]]
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Nearly froze the world in his wake while looking for a friend. He found it in Cenwen.
* MeaningfulName: Aryn means "the Frostweaver" in elvan.
* NiceGuy: Even though he is ''insanely'' powerful, all he ever wanted was to have friends to keep him company. When Cenwen chose to live by his side, he thanked her by granting her people the ability to use Ice Magic. Later, he calmed down as soon as she was returned to him and didn't think of revenge or anything against the Norcaines. Finally, after Wind and Whisper were born, he didn't hesitate to give them his draconic blood to keep them alive.
* PhysicalGod: Treated as such by the people of Eo, who see him as Winter incarnate.

!!Cenwen

A firstborn elf and Aryn's everlasting partner. She lies at his side, keeping him company and appeasing him through her songs. She is also the mother of the half-bred twins Wind and Whisper, who would later become party members in ''Dragon Storm''. A vision of her appears to narrate a letter she wrote to her children, informing them of their destiny.
----
* DistressedDamsel: Kidnapped by the Fial Darg because of her status as a firstborn. Rescuing her is the main plot of the campaign.
* HeroicSacrifice: Gave her life to Aryn in exchange of that of her people. She didn't die, but now has to spend an eternity with the dragon.
* MusicSoothesTheSavageBeast: Charmed Aryn with the beauty of her songs.
* ParentalAbandonment: Was forced to leave Wind and Whisper at Tirganach because, as newborns, they couldn't withstand the sheer cold emitted by Aryn, even after drinking his blood.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Characters debuting in ''Shadow of the Phoenix'']]
!!The Dryad
The last dryad in the land of Xu. She has been chained to her grove by the gods themselves, and offers help to the Phoenix Guard and Shadow Warrior after they cured her and her grove of poison.
----
* DistressedDamsel: When the Rune Warriors first finds her, one of Hokan's minions had poisoned her and her grove.
* LastOfHisKind: In Xu. She mentions that there are still dryads in other lands.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Characters debuting in ''Shadow Wars'']]
!!The Soul Carrier
The PlayerCharacter of ''Shadow Wars''. The Soul Carrier carries the soul of the Shaikan's progenitor, Janus Malacay.

Finding out his whereabouts forms the main plot of ''Dragon Storm''. The expansion also canonized him as male; [[spoiler: his draconic form speaks with a male voice]], while others refer to the Soul Carrier as "he".
----
* FireForgedFriends: With Nightsong. In ''Dragon Storm'', Nightsong expresses concern about his disappearance and joins the Former Rune Warrior to find out what happened to him.

!!Nightsong
Daughter of Craig Un'Shallach, she is one of the prominent Dark Elves resisting Sorvina at the start of ''Shadow Wars''. She journeys to the Iron Fields, where she is killed by Sorvina's assassins, but is resurrected by the Shaikan blood of the Soul Carrier.

With the help of the Soul Carrier and the Shadow Warrior, she manages to unite the Norcaine under her banner. In ''Dragon Storm'', she styles herself the Empress of the Norcaine.
----
* BookEnds: Was with the Soul Carrier on their first and last missions.
* ChainmailBikini: In the second game, Nightsong's combat attire consists of heeled boots that go up to her knees, a pair of hotpants that has actual chainmail parts, a skimpy bra whose cups aren't even connected at the front, and a pair of bladed bracers.
* DubNameChange: Nightsong is called "Balladyna" in the Polish localization.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Nightsong briefly appears in the Free Game mode of ''Shadow of the Phoenix'', before making her proper debut in ''Shadow Wars''.
* FantasticRacism: Does ''not'' like Shadows, even after they've proved to her both their loyalty and usefulness. This seems to have gone away by ''Dragon Storm''.
* GuestStarPartyMember: She joins and leaves the Shaikan at various points during ''Shadow Wars''. For ''Dragon Storm'', she joins the party during the attack on Drag'Lur (after you've torn down a scout camp of the Blades), and stays with the Shaikan until [[spoiler:the Shaper has been defeated]].
* TheHighQueen: As [[spoiler:Empress of the Norcaine, Nightsong is described as a wise ruler who cares about the well-being of her subjects (over even her own), and the peace and future of the world]].
* MsFanservice: In ''SpellForce 2'', Nightsong shows off her body by wearing only a skimpy bra, very short shorts, bracers, cloak, and thigh-high boots. It's probably not a coincidence that she's the game's poster girl and prominently features on the cover art and most artworks. She also appeared in a [[https://www.vidaextra.com/pc/nightsong-la-protagonista-de-spellforce-2-posa-para-la-revista-man pictorial in a men's magazine]].
* ReluctantRuler: After becoming [[spoiler:Empress of the Norcaine, Nightsong eventually grows to dislike her position, with all its diplomacy, intrigues, courting, fighting and decision making. After becoming a Shadow, she isn't particularly thrilled about returning to her old position]].
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: [[spoiler: Being Empress hasn't prevented her from taking the field.]]
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Nightsong's outfit displays plenty of skin, including her cleavage, midriff and thighs.

!!Professor Twiddle
A professor from the University of Sevenkeeps. Twiddle is an inventor and his inventions may hold the key to Eo's future. [[spoiler: Specifically, he is looking into ways on how to duplicate Eo's PortalNetwork without tapping into the Archfire.]]
----
* ArchEnemy: Dr Mauser, who dies soon after the Soul Carrier first met Twiddle, but his schemes would continue to haunt Twiddle throughout the campaigns.
* TimeTravel: His invention in ''Shadow Wars''. He even sets up a StableTimeLoop by [[spoiler: informing you of the ingredients needed to power his Timetwister when he first meets you near the start of the campaign, so that you'll repeat the formula back to him near the end of the campaign.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: In ''Shadow Wars'', he constantly needs to be bailed out by the Soul Carrier and his party. In ''Faith in Destiny'', [[spoiler: he becomes a companion to the Pilgrim's party (albeit for a short while) and a Shaikan, to boot.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Characters debuting in ''Dragon Storm'']]
!!The Former Rune Warrior/ [[spoiler: Shaper Conqueress]]

A former Rune Warrior, she is the PlayerCharacter of ''Dragon Storm''. It is heavily implied that she is a companion of the Phoenix Guard and the Shadow Warrior, as the trinkets which are collected for the "Memories of Eo" side quest consist largely of items the Rune Warriors would have picked up during their travels throughout the three ''Spellforce 1'' campaigns. Yasha (daughter of Hokan Ashir) held her Rune Stone. [[spoiler: Like the Soul Carrier before her, she turned into a Dragon after the events of ''Dragon Storm'']].

''Faith in Destiny'' canonized her as female; [[spoiler: her draconic form spoke with a female voice, and her title was Shaper Conque''ress'']].
----
* BerserkButton: Yasha is hers. The thoughts of Yasha abusing her while she was still a Rune Warrior is enough to power up a "Thought Storm" (an elemental creature of immense power).
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: After losing her Rune Warrior powers, she became a Shaikan, and kicked a lot of ass with Dragon blood flowing in her veins.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: She was a Rune Warrior in her own right, so it is likely that she had her own adventures other than those together with the Phoenix Guard and Shadow Warrior. The trinkets which popped up at exotic locations support this.
* NoodleIncident: Exactly what the Former Rune Warrior was doing at the [[spoiler: Dragon refuge on her first visit there, where the last great dragons were hiding (and two trinkets were found)]] remains a mystery.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Characters debuting in ''Faith in Destiny'']]
!!The Pilgrim/ [[spoiler: Zazhut Liberator]]

The PlayerCharacter of ''Faith in Destiny''. Plagued by nightmares, he [[note]]He was the first ''Spellforce'' avatar to be given a definite gender at his introduction.[[/note]] was advised by a Shaikan Elder to undergo a pilgrimage to the Iron Fields to seek some answers. However, his destiny is dark indeed...

''Demons of the Past'' revealed the fate of him and his party after ''Faith''. [[spoiler: It was not pretty, even by ''Spellforce'' standards]].
----
* TitleDrop: ''Faith in Destiny'' refers to his faith in his own destiny, at a time when he was tormented by his nightmares. [[spoiler: As expected, being the Zazhut Liberator shook that faith pretty hard.]]
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler: His part in releasing Zazhut]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Recurring characters]]
!!Craig Un'Shallach

An exiled Norcaine who appears through the various games to help the PC. He is a good guy who is saddened by his species' mentality and does his best to protect them, as well as his daughter, Nightsong.

Although he dies relatively early in the storyline, his ghost reappears as needed throughout the later campaigns.
----
* BigDamnHeroes: Rescues Urias in the Frost Marches and the Player Character several times.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being a Norcaine, he's a friendly guy to the PC and cares deeply for his people, as well as his daughter.
* DualWielding: In most of his appearances, he wields a pair of swords.
* {{Expy}}: Of Drizzt Do'Urden.
* GoodParents: Took great care of his daughter, Nightsong, and his last words before definitely dying are good advice to her.
* ImDyingPleaseTakeMyMacGuffin: In the second game's opening cinematic, Craig gives his daughter the sign of the Norcaine before going to his death fighting the Shadows.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch
* OurElvesAreDifferent: He is a dark elf, a Norcaine.
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Belonging to the Dracons, the warrior caste of the Norcaines, he is a fierce and honorable fighter who cares deeply to the sake of his people. It is to be noted that the Dracons are usually the mediators between the Archon and Sinistra castes. [[spoiler: He administers the final test of the Dracon for the Shaper Conqueress.]]

!!Flink [=McWinter=]
A trickster who journeys the world. He is first encountered in Empyria during ''Shadow of the Phoenix'' but also makes an appearance in ''Shadow Wars'', and ''Faith in Destiny''.

He's the protagonist of his own scenario (a ''Faith'' DLC), which purports to narrate the true story of his involvement in Rushwater Downs during the events of ''Shadow Wars''.
----
* CallBack: The statue trickery he pulls on the orks in ''Shadow Wars'' has him mention he learned it through the ice elves. In ''Breath of Winter'', there's a band of trolls near Tirganach that revere a hollow statue. You can use this statue to fool them into performing various tasks.
* LovableRogue: Sees himself as this, although he was not so lovable in ''Shadow of the Phoenix'', where he tries to shake the Rune Warriors off his trail by luring them into traps.
* UnreliableNarrator: As expected of a trickster. In the quote on the loading screen of his Secret [=Diary DLC=], he claims to have fooled Rune Warriors. Well, he didn't mention the part where the Rune Warriors caught him and handed him over to the leader of the local thieves' guild (in Empyria, during ''Shadow of the Phoenix'').
