->'''Origin:''' [[UsefulNotes/TurksWithTroops Athens, Ottoman Empire (Greece)]] [[note]]The flag shown here is that of the historic Ottoman Empire circa late 1500s. At the time the series is set, modern-day Greece was under Ottoman Turk control and would not gain independence until 1830.[[/note]]

->Son of Sophitia and Rothion, nephew of Cassandra Alexandra and Lucius Alexander, as well as the main character of the 5th game. Uses a "sharper" variation of his mom's moveset. Sets out to find his older sister Pyrrha and to cleanse the world of the malfested, as they apparently killed his mother. He eventually succeeds Siegfried as the wielder of Soul Calibur, becoming Alpha Patroklos.

----

* AscendedExtra: Previously mentioned in his mom's profile and made a very brief non-speaking appearance (only the top of his head was shown) in Tira's ''Soulcalibur III'' ending before becoming a full-fledged playable character.
* AntiHero: He's initially a self-righteous {{Jerkass}} who murders a man because he thought he was a malfested. It takes a while, but he eventually gets his heart and mind in the right place.
* ApologeticAttacker: Becomes one if fighting Pyrrha, often latching "sorry" on to the end of some attacks. Must be a family thing...
* BigBrotherInstinct: While it's actually an inverted example, since Patroklos is a year younger than Pyrrha, once he has been reunited with his sister, Lord help anyone who messes with her...
--> '''Tira''': ''What's that? Me? The only pawn on this board is this stupid little girl! *'''Smack!'''*''
-->'''Patroklos''': ''You '''BITCH!!'''''
* BlackAndWhiteInsanity: Patroklos starts off the story mode with a vehement hatred of Malfested — to the point where he gleefully kills people he ''thinks'' are Malfested on-sight — due to having been raised being told one killed his beloved mother and kidnapped his little sister. He is '''way''' less gung-ho about killing malfested once [[BoomerangBigot his sister reveals she is one]].
* BreakTheHaughty: After finally rescuing his sister and abandoning everything else, he gets his ass handed to him by Astaroth and then Voldo. That's not what breaks him. Graf Dumas appears and reveals himself as Nightmare, saying that the people Patroklos killed in his name were actually innocent people whose souls were devoured by Soul Edge afterward. [[FreakOut This is when he starts losing it]], but he's not quite broken enough yet. Pyrrha turning into Pyrrha Ω and revealing herself as a Malfested finally pushes him into a HeroicBSOD.
* BurnTheWitch: He exhibits an extreme hatred towards the Malfested, due to having been raised being told one killed his beloved mother and kidnapped his sister.
%%* CatSmile: [[http://www.fightersgeneration.com/np8/char/patroklos-sketch.jpg Seen here.]]
* CallingYourAttacks: '''TRUE JUSTICE!'''
* CharacterDevelopment: He goes from an arrogant guy who just wants [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge revenge]] against the [[FantasticRacism Malfested]] and will kill anyone who even barely looks like one to almost becoming Soul Calibur's KnightTemplar to moving past his hatred to save his sister.
* ComingOfAgeStory: What the entire story mode boils down to for him.
* DefrostingIceQueen: At the start, he's haughty, proud, and refuses to listen to anyone, killing all Malfested who stand in his way without question. By the end, he's found his true resolve and becomes much more focused, though his battle quotes still retain just a ''teeny tiny'' bit of arrogance in them.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The scene after his first battle in story mode has him accusing a man of being a Malfested because he's "pale and filthy". After the man denies this, Patroklos stabs him in the back, while gleefully stating how unfortunate it is that the man can't prove his innocence.
* {{Foil}}: To Pyrrha. She starts the game being victimized by people because of their unjust assumption that she's a criminal. Patroklos starts the game as one of those people.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Patroklos is the more foolish of the siblings due to his recklessness in killing innocent people whom he thought was a Malfested.
* ForGreatJustice: Patroklos fights to bring justice to Europe and cleanse it of the Malfested... or so he thinks. His quotes reflect his dedication to his ideal of justice.
* GorgeousGreek: A beautiful young Athenian whose facial features and mop of curly blonde hair evoke Classical Greek sculptures.
* HeroicBSOD:
** He gets a big one after realizing that all of those people Dumas had him kill were actually innocent people, not Malfested. This comes within literal minutes of him discovering Dumas is actually Nightmare in disguise, and that his sister is Malfested. Needless to say, he doesn't take the triple-whammy well.
** Outside of story, doesn't take fighting against Pyrrha Ω very well, and slips into [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone regret if he wins]]. The look on his face and more depressed movement during his usually cocky animation stands out.
--->''Malfested? My own sister!?''
* {{Hypocrite}}: One of his victory quotes has him shouting "I fight in the way I see fit!", yet he is an UnwittingPawn of Graf Dumas and later Elysium.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: Sort of. Patroklos initially [[AllThereInTheManual learned iaijutsu and iaido from Setsuka]] (and he was a very quick learner), but then decided to switch to using his mother's Athenian style out of respect. The style was entirely self-taught, and while Z.W.E.I. notes it to be a pale imitation of Sophitia's (just the way he holds out the sword in his idle stance is telling) and tells Patroklos essentially to BeYourself, Patroklos still holds up well until he switches back to his original teachings (from which he goes on to trump enemies he had problems with in the past).
* IdiotHero: Things that should be obvious, such as the nature of the ObviouslyEvil dictator he's initially taking orders from and blunt statements such as "your wish to remain together is futile" (in regards to him and Pyrrha), tend to fly right over his head.
* JackOfAllStats: Quite average, though his range is understandably limited while he has good ring out abilities and unusually high meter gain.
* JusticeWillPrevail: He's like the [[VideoGame/FatalFury Kim Kaphwan]] of ''Soulcalibur''. One of his quotes even has Patroklos triumphantly proclaim [[IAmTheNoun "I am justice!"]]
* KnightTemplar: He starts off utterly dedicated to Graf Dumas' crusade against the "Malfested", killing people if he even ''suspects'' they're corrupted.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWXRBHerxKo Sword of Resolution]]''
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Comes with being an Alexander. [[ShieldBash He can use his shield to attack]], as well.
* MeaningfulName: Could very well be named after [[Literature/TheIliad Patroclus]].
* MisplacedRetribution: Holy hell, yes. Especially after the artbook revealed that Tira ''didn't'' kill his mother.
* MovesetClone: Has a distinctly masculine and aggressive take on the fighting style originating from his mother and aunt.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: If he wins a match against Pyrrha Ω, he drops his weapon and kneels over in horror at what he's done.
-->''It can't end, not like this!''
* {{Shoryuken}}: Uses one [[http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-soul-calibur/714560 here]] as the finishing blow of his Critical Edge.
* ShownTheirWork: His last name was originally incorrectly spelled "Alexandra" like his mother and aunt, but was corrected (in-game) to the more accurate Alexand''er'', which follows the Greek principle of attributing gender-specific endings to family names. The subtitles still call him "Alexandra", though.
* TautologicalTemplar: He initially believes himself a Holy Warrior incapable of wrongdoing, and that everyone he kills was obviously a filthy Malfested and thus deserves to die.
* TellMeAboutMyFather: He had been raised by his father, Rothion, who would convey stories about his mother [[MissingMom Sophitia]] and her [[ActionMom holy mission to destroy Soul Edge]]. Patroklos, as a result, desired to become a holy warrior, [[SoProudOfYou just like his mother]]. As a result of this, he has an over-inflated view of her.
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: As seen in his Critical Edge, where he throws his sword and impales his opponent on it.
* UngratefulBastard: People try to help him and he just keeps throwing it in their faces. Meets up with Siegfried's group, who help him find his long-lost sister. What does he do? He ditches them without a second thought. Meets Ivy, who patches him up after a recent fight. What does he do? Angrily claims that he didn't need her help, and that it's worth nothing. His sister saves him from Nightmare. What does he do? He runs away from her out of fear, and later kills her, just because Elysium told him she couldn't be saved.
* UnskilledButStrong: He does pretty well for someone who was never formally trained in Greek Swordsmanship. Deconstructed in that his style was considered a pale imitation of Sophitia's, and, once he goes back to Iaido, he does significantly better because he actually had formal training.
* UnwittingPawn: His headstrong passion and sense of justice, as well as his naivety, make him an ideal enabler for both Graf Dumas' and Elysium's machinations.

->''"I've made a vow to better myself."''

->'''Weapon:''' ''[[UnholyHolySword Soul Calibur]]'' [[IaijutsuPractitioner (sword and sheath)]]

-> After discovering that Graf Dumas was Nightmare and his sister was Malfested, Patroklos flees to Schwarzwind and explains what happened. He has a vision of Elysium, an angelic woman who claims to be his mother and tells him she will guide him and asks he restore Soul Calibur to its full power. Siegfried and Z.W.E.I test his resolve to fight Nightmare even if it means having to kill his sister, but Patroklos reaffirms his desire to save Pyrrha. Soul Calibur transforms into a katana-like sword, and Patroklos sets out to restore it with the help of Ivy, Lexia, Natsu, and Xiba. Once Soul Calibur is restored, Elysium informs Patroklos that the only way to save Pyrrha is to put her out her misery. Taking up Soul Calibur, Patroklos coldly kills Pyrrha, sealing Soul Edge in crystal and bringing about a new age of order as Soul Calibur's host. Patroklos then awakens in Astral Chaos, realizing he never saved anyone, and with advice from Edge Master, returns to the world at the moment where Soul Calibur is restored. This time he turns down Elysium, who throws him back into Astral Chaos. With Edge Master's help, Patroklos asserts his will and escapes, facing Pyrrha once more. Elysium tries to take over him, revealing herself to be the will of Soul Calibur, but Patroklos defeats her, and with Pyrrha's help sends both swords into Astral Chaos. The two siblings reconcile, and walk off together.

----

* TheAtoner: He intends to spend the rest of his life redeeming himself for the innocents he killed while serving Graf Dumas.
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind: When he rejects Elysium's manipulation, she attempts to outright seize control of his body and turn him into her equivalent of Nightmare. Patroklos manages to defeat her.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Soul Calibur has some element of control over him, and he only breaks free when he decides to save Pyrrha, rather than following Soul Calibur's will.
* CharacterDevelopment: The TraumaCongaLine he endures gives him a [[BreakTheHaughty dose of humility]], but he goes from being Graf Dumas' vassal to unwittingly serving Soul Calibur. By the end, however, he determines to follow his own path.
--> ''I want to wield this sword, not out of vengeance or misguided mercy, but out of love.''
* ContrivedCoincidence: His meeting up with and learning from Setsuka, which was required to keep the iaido style within the series, whilst dropping the previous wielder.
* CrystalPrison: ''[[UnholyHolySword The holy spirit sword Soul Calibur]]'' of all things does this to him as part of an invocation of DemonicPossession towards the end of the story mode. Pyrrha helps him break free.
* DarkIsNotEvil: This version of him wears black, but is the hero of the story.
* DifficultButAwesome[=/=]EliteTweak: He uses the execution-heavy style of Setsuka. Essentially a complete inversion of how he starts out, as part of his CharacterDevelopment and [[WildMassGuessing possibly the game directors' desire to push players towards getting better.]]
* FreakinessShame: At the end of Story Mode, he grabs Pyrrha's malfested hand after she offers it to him and starts pulling it back.
* GratuitousJapanese: He will say certain moves in Japanese, probably as a side effect of being taught by Setsuka.
* IaijutsuPractitioner: This is how he fought before using the sword and shield, having been trained by Setsuka whilst living in Istanbul, prior to the events of ''SCV''.
* KnightTemplar: When he restores Soul Calibur, Elysium tells him that Pyrrha cannot be saved and that his purpose is to kill the Malfested and destroy Soul Edge, then bring about a new age of order. In the false ending, he accepts this and becomes becomes Soul Calibur's loyal host, coldly executing his sister.
--> '''Elysium:''' ''Now your body will light the world forever as a medium for Soul Calibur.''
--> '''α Patroklos:''' *kneels* ''It is my honor.''
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyXeo-CoH0Q Virtuous Heart]]''
* MentalTimeTravel: It's implied that when Patroklos became Soul Calibur's host, his soul wound up in Astral Chaos. Realizing he hadn't saved Pyrrha, he goes back to before he accepted Elysium's offer and transfers his memories to his past self. Elysium responds by dumping him back into Astral Chaos.
* MovesetClone: To Setsuka.
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: His entire thought process after killing his malfested sister could be summed up as, "Uh, whoops... I need a rewind button." Luckily, Edge Master granted that wish.
* SingleStrokeBattle: His Critical Edge. It's basically a less flashy version of Setsuka's Critical Finish. [[RecycledINSPACE With crystals.]]
* SomeDexterityRequired: Just like Setsuka, his moveset is heavily reliant on frame perfect inputs, and mastering them is going to be key to using him well.
* UnwittingPawn: While Patroklos vows to never be used by anyone the way Graf Dumas used him, he winds up Soul Calibur's pawn in the false ending.

->Daughter of Sophitia and Rothion, niece of Cassandra Alexandra and Lucius Alexander, also a main character. After being kidnapped by Tira, she ended up released from Soul Edge's influence at the hand of her mother. Sadly, unlike Patroklos, she ended up not knowing of her family and became an orphan. After Siegfried defeated Nightmare, baby Pyrrha began to die as Soul Edge's power waned, so [[HeroicSacrifice Sophitia removed the last fragment of Soul Edge from within her body to let Pyrrha live]]. Pyrrha was eventually enslaved by Dampierre, and was bought by a noble named Jurgis, who freed her, employed her as a maid, and eventually proposed to her. On the night before their wedding, Jurgis was killed by Tira and Pyrrha was framed and arrested. Tira approached her and gave her her mother's weapons, awakening the dormant fragment of Soul Edge within her. She now sets out alongside Tira, who manipulates her in order to fully awaken the [[SuperPoweredEvilSide cursed power within her]]. She eventually succeeds Nightmare as the wielder of Soul Edge, becoming Pyrrha Ω, but ultimately rejects Soul Edge's power and helps Patroklos destroy both Soul Swords.

----

* ActionSurvivor: A rare female example and highly unusual for the series. Unlike the other combatants, Pyrrha has no experience in battle, as evidenced by her timid guard stance and somewhat clumsy repertoire of throws. Her databook entry outright confirms that without the divine protection of her sword and shield, her attacks would amount to ineffectual flailing.
* AntiAntiChrist: Pyrrha is destined to become the next wielder of Soul Edge, but ultimately rejects the demonic weapon and assists in destroying it.
* ApologeticAttacker: Pyrrha abhors fighting, but she's terrified of death and Tira keeps pitting her against people who want to kill her. As such, she apologizes before murdering them.
* AscendedExtra: Had previously appeared as a baby in Sophitia's ''Soul Calibur'' ending and appeared as a child (though with only the top of her head shown) with two lines in Tira's ''Soulcalibur III'' ending.
* AssKicksYou: Her Hip Charge attack counts, as do her Bottoms Up and Heaven's Rider grabs.
* BigSisterInstinct: For all her [[ShrinkingViolet meekness]], when her brother is in danger she ''will'' step up.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: While affected by Tira's MoreThanMindControl, she becomes brainwashed under the influence of Soul Edge.
* BreakTheCutie: Oh boy… the sheer amount of heartbreak she goes through is painful.
* ChildishBangs: Like her mother, she has sports a full, heavy fringe, but hers is more pronounced than her mother's, being more innocent and childish.
* CombatPragmatist: Unsurprising considering her lack of combative experience, but for someone who resents fighting she exhibits a creativity for underhanded moves born out of sheer desperation, coupled with her own clumsy combat abilities, such as dragging someone to the ground so they impale themselves on her sword.
* TheCorruption: Subject to it in ''IV'', and when Tira activates the dormant shard of Soul Edge within her in ''V'' it only gets worse. In the end, as she still has her corrupted arm, but her eyes, voice, and personality return to normal.
* CuteClumsyGirl: She is cute, youthful, and quite clumsy -- as seen in her Holy Carnivore throw and Miserable Fate attack throws. The former involves Pyrrha grabbing her foe and losing balance, causing her foe to fall on her and her sword, impaling themself. The latter involves her accidentally falling on her foe when she impales them with her sword and tries to retrieve it. As Pyrrha Ω, she loses all such clumsiness, primarily due to Soul Edge's influence.
* DarkMagicalGirl: While she wields her mother's sacred weapons, she is a malfested and is ultimately chosen to be the new host for Soul Edge.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She serves as a host for the demonic sword Soul Edge, but is far from being a bad person, even going so far as to reject Soul Edge.
* {{Determinator}}: She eventually ''overcomes Soul Edge's influence'' and uses it free her brother from crystal stasis.
* DeadlyHug: Her Holy Carnivore throw has her drag her opponent to the ground so that they impale themselves on her sword. Another throw, Broken Promise, taken from Sophitia, has her hug herself close to an enemy, restraining their right arm and then slashing the back of their neck.
* TheDrifter: Since she was kidnapped as a young child, she endured a rootless, wandering existence and therefore never got to enjoy any sort of family life growing up.
* FaceHeelTurn: Events lead to her becoming the next wielder of Soul Edge.
* {{Fanservice}}: Her Holy Carnivore throw is obviously designed for suggestive fanservice. She grabs her opponent, causing them to trip and land on top of her in a SuggestiveCollision that's only mitigated by the fact that they land squarely onto her upright blade, so it could be classified as PervertRevengeMode. Unsurprising, as she inherited a lot of moves from her mother, Sophitia.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Pyrrha is the more responsible of the siblings, despite her timidity.
* GroinAttack: Seems to run in the female side of the family.
--> ''[[CaptainObvious That must hurt!]]''
* HatesBeingAlone: Pyrrha has terrible abandonment trauma, so much so that the ObviouslyEvil Tira and Soul Edge both manage to worm their way into her life, needling her loneliness to gain her trust.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Pyrrha hates fighting and just wants to be left alone to live a normal life. Unfortunately, Tira forces her into situations where she has to fight.
* TheIngenue: Is a naive and gentle girl who resents having to fight.
* IntercontinuityCrossover: Is a character in [[Anime/QueensBlade Queen's Gate]].
* JackOfAllStats: It ''also'' seems to run in the family; In terms of play-style, Pyrrha is a balanced, solid fighter, though she doesn't excel in any one area.
* LonersAreFreaks: Pyrrha is shunned and ostracized due to hanging with Tira, and winds up being accused of murders Tira commits, forcing her to fight to defend herself.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuAR7D1cR4k Wings of Sorrow]]''
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Pyrrha's sword and shield were enchanted by Hephaestus, and as a result they literally fight for her.
* MadeASlave: Prior to the events of ''SCV'', Pyrrha was sold as a slave by Dampierre and [[SlaveLiberation freed]] by a nobleman's son named Jurgis (the Greek equivalent of 'George') in a slave market, and began working as his maid. Jurgis fell in love with Pyrrha, and eventually proposed to her. That night however, he was murdered. Pyrrha was [[FrameUp blamed]], arrested and imprisoned. Soon afterwards Tira, the ''real'' culprit, appeared outside her cell and with skillful words, she wormed her way into [[UnwittingPawn Pyrrha]]'s heart...
* MeaningfulName: Combined with her brother's is a reference to Literature/TheIliad, since Pyrrha was the name Achilles used when he was DisguisedInDrag.
* MiniDressOfPower: Wears a dress with a absurdly high hemline for the time period.
* MovesetClone: Downplayed, as while she fights similarly to both Sophitia and Cassandra, most of her animations are unique to her. She has all but two of Sophitia's throws and has her own attack throws.
* NotQuiteBackToNormal: She keeps her RedRightHand after getting rid of Soul Edge.
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: Everyone around Pyrrha dies and she is blamed for it. The culprit, Tira, even mentions this to her. Tira mentions it again when Pyrrha became Pyrrha Ω. At first, Pyrrha still had the same personality, but she was pushed away from her brother (who, without her, would have eaten a Soul Edge to the face) just because she became malfested.
* PossessionImpliesMastery: She wields her mother's sword and shield, which were forged by the god Hephaestus and literally do the fighting for her, since without them all she'd be doing is flailing ineffectually.
* ReplacementGoldfish: While she does take Sophitia's role as the target for Tira's antagonism and the pawn in her schemes, Tira ''also'' plans on making poor Pyrrha a replacement Nightmare after rejecting the current one.
* ReluctantWarrior: Pyrrha hates fighting -- her pre-fight animation sees her worriedly ''back away'' from her opponent -- and has zero combat skill,[[note]]Her sword and shield are divinely enchanted and literally do the fighting for her.[[/note]] but she's also terrified of dying and ''will'' use lethal force to defend herself.
* ShrinkingViolet: One of the most timid characters in the series, if not across the entire FightingGame genre.
* SuggestiveCollision: Her Holy Carnivore throw involves her clumsily grabbing her foe and losing balance, causing her opponent to fall on top of her and impale themselves on her sword. [[ThanksForTheMammary This often leads to her opponent falling face-first into her breasts]]. Her Heaven's Rider throw involves her jumping butt-first onto her opponent, ending with her butt on their face.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: The shard of Soul Edge she carries within her slowly transforms her into Pyrrha Ω, once she succumbs to her malfestation and Soul Edge's influence.
* ToxicFriendInfluence: Tira, good God. She makes it her mission to take her old enemy Sophitia's daughter under her wing, slowly manipulating the events that ultimately lead Pyrrha to becoming Soul Edge's new host, Pyrrha Ω.
--> ''Tira, you're [[HorribleJudgeOfCharacter the only one]] [[TheOnlyOneICanTrust I can ever trust]]...''
* ViciousCycle: Pyrrha is the nicest Malfested of the series aside from Maxi and her mother Sophitia, but whenever she tries to settle down in one place Tira commits a murder and frames her for it, forcing her to fight to defend herself when the paranoid and WitchHunt-happy townsfolk and soldiers try to kill her. This leads to more people trying to kill her, rinse, lather, repeat.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Starts out as an innocent, drifting Woobie with no home or family of her own. She was tricked by Dampierre and sold as a slave, only to be freed by a young nobleman named Jurgis. They fell in love, but on the day Jurgis was going to propose Tira brutally murdered him and framed Pyrrha, forcing her to spend the next 17 years of her life searching aimlessly for somewhere to belong, regularly being attacked and forced to kill or be killed. Worse, the shard of [[ArtifactOfDoom Soul Edge]] inside her is slowly corrupting her. When she finally reunites with her long-lost brother Patroklos, however, things finally seem about to get better for her.
* YourSoulIsMine: She is shown absorbing an opponent's soul before passing out during the game's story mode.
* YouthfulFreckles: She sports freckles across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose, playing up her childlike personality.

-> In order to save Patroklos from Nightmare, Pyrrha succumbs to her Malfestation. When Nightmare retreats, Pyrrha tests Patroklos' resolve to be with her, causing him to run away in fear and confusion. Returning to Tira, she kills Z.W.E.I. and takes Soul Edge, becoming its new host when it promises to never abandon her. Fighting with Patroklos, who had become Soul Calibur's host, Pyrrha was knocked out and separated from Soul Edge. When she regained consciousness, Pyrrha saw her brother encased in crystal by Soul Calibur, and resolved to become a stronger person. Suppressing Soul Edge's will, she helps free Patroklos and they send both swords into Astral Chaos. The two siblings reconcile, and walk off together.
----

* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: Pyrrha Ω's entry in the ''New Legend of Project Soul'' databook implies that when she is consumed by rage her Malfestation activates, and she is shown fainting after absorbing an enemy's soul and waking up with no memory of what happened afterwards in the Story Mode.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: When she realizes her malfestation has physically mutated her, Pyrrha tests Patroklos' resolve to keep his family together with a simple question:
--> ''We're a family, right, Patroklos?''
* TheBerserker: It's hinted in her character bio that whenever Pyrrha gets angry, she "[sets] loose the dark emotions that [she] had sealed deep within her heart" and goes all [[BuffySpeak soul eaty]] on the people around her.
* BloodKnight: She makes numerous bloodthirsty comments, and when she accepts Soul Edge she proclaims she'll kill everyone as long as it doesn't leave her.
-->''So red...''
--> ''I'll… CRUSH YOU!''
--> ''[[{{Angrish}} GRAAAAAH!!!]] GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!!!''
* DespairEventHorizon: After Patroklos runs away from her, Pyrrha embraces Soul Edge when it promises to never leave her.
* DifficultButAwesome: Pyrrha Ω lacks versatility but makes up for it with higher damage and greater guard pressure.
* DistaffCounterpart: She is the first known female host of Soul Edge, making her one to Nightmare.
* HatesBeingAlone: She accepts Soul Edge when it promises to never leave her, and many of her losing quotes have her begging it not to abandon her.
* HeelFaceTurn: When Patroklos frees her from Soul Edge's influence, she realizes she was wrong to lash out at him and forgives him for running away.
* ImCryingButIDontKnowWhy: Her win quote against Patroklos has her state this.
--> ''How come... This one makes me feel?''
* FacialMarkings: She has small, subtle lines under her eyes, which on her official art, make it look like she's crying.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdxujJmrL-Q Adorned With Evil]]''
* MiniDressOfPower: She wears a RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver version of normal Pyrrha's dress.
* MovesetClone: While her normal fighting style was one already inspired by Sophitia's, Pyrrha Ω's own version is an even closer recreation of it.
* PowerEchoes: Her voice is distorted due to her malfestation.
* RedBaron: According to her databook entry, Pyrrha Ω has the moniker of "the Crimson Despair."
* RedEyesTakeWarning: As a result of her malfestation, her sclera are red and her [[SupernaturalGoldEyes irises are yellow]].
* RedRightHand: Pyrrha Ω's entire right arm is warped into a smaller, five-fingered version of Nightmare's signature armored claw when her Malfestation progresses, which Tira interprets as confirmation that she is a worthy candidate to be Soul Edge's wielder. Unfortunately, unlike the other wielders who got back their normal bodies after rejecting Soul Edge's influence, this one sticks. [[FreakinessShame Good thing Patroklos comes to love his sister just the way she is.]]
* SanitySlippage: Pyrrha Ω's character bio mentions the shard of Soul Edge within her has slowly been corroding her sanity.
* ScreamingWarrior: Pyrrha Ω snarls and screams while attacking her opponents.
* SkywardScream: When initiating her Critical Edge, she throws her head back and lets out a scream of rage.
* SupernaturalAid: She is aided in combat by the Erinyes, the Greek goddesses of vengeance.
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: Some of her quotes, particularly against Patroklos, give her this vibe.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Just as things seem to be getting better for her, Patroklos finds out Pyrrha is [[TheCorruption Malfested]] when she taps into her SuperpoweredEvilSide to save him from Nightmare. The still gentle and mostly-innocent but now ''utterly terrifying'' Pyrrha turns to Patroklos in concern to make sure he's OK only for Patroklos to point his sword at her in the midst of a HeroicBSOD, finally running away from her in horror. Pyrrha, heartbroken, decides she can never trust anyone but Tira and willingly takes up Soul Edge to escape being alone. The resulting entity, Pyrrha Ω, is extremely violent and deadly compared to the frightened and naive Pyrrha, but she screams as much in ''pain'' as in rage while she fights, and doesn't seem so much to be possessed by Soul Edge as she is madly lashing out at ''everything'', thinking the entire world is her enemy and desperately needing to do something, ''anything'' to escape her pain.

->A girl who is Taki's disciple and the host of a demon called Arahabaki. According to [[AllThereInTheManual New Legends of Project Soul]], Taki and a ninja named Juju were sent to exorcise Arahabaki, who possessed Juju. Taki was forced to kill her, and Arahabaki rampaged until he possessed the infant Natsu. Feeling guilty, Taki took her in and raised her as her apprentice. When Taki vanished on a mission, Natsu set out with Leixia, Maxi, and Xiba to find her. She also doubles as Leixia's bodyguard.

----

* ActionGirl: Takes after her master, Taki and is the series' second ''kunoichi'' of note.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: She does not return in ''Lost Swords'', ironically being replaced by Taki; the same character she was meant to succeed.
* TheCorruption: Her databook entry notes that each time she draws on Arahabaki's power, it taints her soul and will eventually turn her into a demon herself.
* DualWielding: Uses two small [[KatanasAreJustBetter ninjato]], just like her mentor.
* FlashStep: She can teleport to this effect.
* HappilyAdopted: Implied to have been raised by Chie.
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Her ninja garb is a very lush shade of reddish-pink (even brighter than Taki's). The databook notes she initially complained about this, despite Taki explaining its "practical" use.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT0AbdPTb2w Faster Than a Howling Wind]]''
* LightningBruiser: One of the fastest characters easily, able to deal lots of damage as well. Compensated for by relative her lack of reach and inability to space well.
* MovesetClone: Of her master, Taki.
* {{Mukokuseki}}: Despite being Japanese by birth, she sports utterly unrealistic ''strawberry-blonde'' hair. The incongruence is compounded by the fact that the game is set in the early 1600's, when it would have been impossible to dye brown/black Asian hair such a light shade. It seems odder still, because Namco took care to explain that Setsuka's fair hair is a result of her being ethnically European. On the other hand, her appearance could simply be meant to evoke the [[GyaruGirl Gyaru archetype]]. ''New Legends of Project Soul'' clarifies that Natsu's appearance is [[PowerDyesYourHair due to Arahabaki's possession]] rather than her being of non-Japanese descent.
* {{Orochi}}: The Japanese art book reveals that Arahabaki is one.
* PaintedOnPants: She wears the same leave-nothing-to-the-imagination type of [[SpyCatsuit leotard]] that Taki does.
* PowerTattoo: She has a seal on her left shoulder blade that glows when she draws on Arahabaki's power.
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: Has the demon Arahabaki sealed inside her.
* StudentAndMasterTeam: Maxi acts as a mentor to her, along with their traveling companions Xiba and Leixia.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Natsu, having been raised in a ninja clan, is the tomboy to runaway noble Leixia's Girly Girl.

----

* BackToBackBadasses: With Siegfried in the story, during a skirmish with Graf Dumas' forces. One of his victory poses shows him back to back with E.I.N.
* BeenThereShapedHistory: Perhaps to lend his character some grounding in reality, according to the game's follow-up [[AllThereInTheManual New Legends of Project Soul]] artbook, he fought alongside real-life Transylvanian nobleman [[HistoricalDomainCharacter Istvan Bocskai]] (Stephen Bocskay) when he tried to oppose the Holy Roman Empire's attempts to spread Roman Catholicism into the Kingdom of Hungary. History plays out when Rudolf II's (The Holy Roman Emperor at the time) brother, Archduke Matthias, proposed a peace settlement, known as the Peace of Vienna, only for Bocskai to be poisoned by his chancellor, Mihaly Kathay ([[BeethovenWasAnAlienSpy who was Malfested]]). Since it was Graf Dumas/Nightmare/Raphael's body who led the Holy Roman Army during this struggle, this is how he and Z.W.E.I first met, and the reason why Dumas wants him dead so badly.
* BigDamnHeroes: His first scene in the story has him stopping Patroklos from murdering a supposed malfested.
* BilingualBonus: His name means "two" in German. The wolf-spirit he can summon is named E.I.N., which is "one." His sword is named "Kreuzgriff," which is German for "Cross Handle." This explains its unique shape.
%%* ChainedByFashion
* DarkIsNotEvil: A rather gothic-looking fellow, not helped by the fact he calls in a vicious wolf spirit to do some of his dirty work. That all said, he helps the unquestionably heroic Siegfried and his Schwarzwind group.
* DifficultButAwesome: His fighting style requires a completely different mindset to utilize than any other character, focusing heavily on guard pressure and making good reads(moreso than any other character by a significant margin).
* FightingSpirit: Is able to call forth upon E.I.N., an ethereal wolf with a crescent moon lodged into its stomach, to fight alongside him.
* FunWithAcronyms: Not that we know what the acronym is for...
%%(zce)* HellBentForLeather
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Z.W.E.I. definitely has [[SummonMagic strange powers]], but he uses them for good. That doesn't stop the average person from thinking otherwise. Opposing a political ruler's [[WitchHunt Malfested Hunts]] might have something to do with that.
* TheLancer: To Siegfried in ''V''.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32O4lj_d_JQ Sleepless: An Untamed Beast]]''
* MysteriousPast: Nothing is revealed about his past, even in the databook, though it does explain why he hates Graf Dumas so much.
* MysteriousStranger: No information from the game, nor the artbook, not even from Project Soul themselves has ever been given about who or what the hell this guy is.
* NoNameGiven: Z.W.E.I. is just what he calls himself.
* PartsUnknown: His [[AllThereInTheManual official bio]] is surprisingly scant on detail, with his birthplace, age, date of birth, blood-type and even his real name simply listed as "unknown". This is in stark contrast to the far more detailed bios of the rest of the cast. Whether these details were left out to simply [[MysteriousPast enhance his mystery]], or that he (arguably) is a more [[ArtShift otherworldly character]] than the rest of the cast and is, therefore, more difficult to categorise in a [[MagicRealism real-world setting]], remains open to debate....
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: Both aesthetically and game-play wise. Thus far, the series has always presented warriors from various recognizable, real-world global cultures with a [[MagicRealism fantasy twist]]:-- [[HollywoodMedievalJapan Japanese samurai/ninjas/geisha]], [[SwordAndSandal Greek warriors]], [[BlueBlood English & French aristocrats]], [[UsefulNotes/KnightFever Germanic knights]] etc. ''His'' design and most of his move-set however, is almost completely [[HowUnscientific fantasy-based]], with an overall look not grounded in any real-world culture and a [[HighFantasy high-fantasy]] fighting style incorporating a summoned were-wolf. This sets him apart from most of the cast as a whole.
* ReverseGrip: More of a side grip, but arming swords typically were not held like that. Downplayed with most of his in-game attacks, where he switches to the side grip only for certain attacks.
%%* TallDarkAndHandsome
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Sports a flimsy, gaping, waistcoat type jacket that shows off his toned stomach.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: The last time he is seen in the story, he was thrown off of a cliff. It's not known if he survived. Given that he had also been ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice, it seems unlikely.
* VaporWear: Strange male example, but [[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/soulcalibur/images/d/d0/Sc5_pub_2d_zwei1b-copy.jpg his sagging pants and unzipped fly show that he's not wearing any underwear underneath.]]
* WrongContextMagic: Even his databook entry isn't clear on what E.I.N. is.

* AnimeChineseGirl: Just like her mom.
* ArrangedMarriage: Xianghua would far prefer her daughter to become one of the Ming Emperor's wives than pursue her dreams of seeing the world outside Ming (China).
* DanceBattler: Though not quite as graceful as her mother, she still exhibits a very fluid, elegant fighting style.
* FlowerMotifs: Her primary costume is designed around a lotus flower.
* GenkiGirl: She's very cheerful and excitable.
* GirlishPigtails: In keeping with her youthful age and character.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: If Lord Maxi's anything to go by, Leixia will trust even the shadiest of people, leading them into dangerous situations.
* IBrokeANail: Some of her quotes have her complain.
--> ''Aww... No fair! You got me all dirty!''
* ItsAlwaysMardiGrasInNewOrleans: Her stage, "Grand Festival of Guandi Temple," is set at a vibrant marina during Chinese New Year.
* JumpedAtTheCall: In ''Soulcalibur V'''s promotional material she is referred to as "A Young Lady Longing for an Adventure."
* JusticeWillPrevail: Is said at the end of her Critical Edge. She probably got it from her mom.
* LadyOfAdventure: She is certainly growing into one, running away from her sheltered high-class home, choosing a life of freedom and adventure over a peaceful but demanding life, and seeking to roam the world freely and gleefully, meeting all sorts of new places and faces along the way. If continued on a few more years, she may even find that this is her calling!

* LongLostSibling: Xiba is her older half brother; he's the result of an affair between her mother and Kilik. Neither Leixia, nor Xiba, know of their relation.
* MovesetClone: Of her mother.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Somewhat, her looks were modeled after French ''Soul Calibur'' player Kayane, making the latter something of an [[AscendedFanboy Ascended Fangirl]].
* PrettyInMink: Her 2P attire gives Leixia a fur hood.
* TheRunaway: Leaves home when she finds out her mom plans to [[ArrangedMarriage marry her off to the Emperor]].
* SkilledButNaive: Even though she displays incredible swordsmanship and can handle herself in a fight, her upbringing inside the walls of the Forbidden City has left her quite sheltered and foreign to the ways of world beyond her familiar surroundings.
-->''You meet all sorts of interesting people outside the palace!''
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To her mother. [[YouRemindMeOfX It's even remarked upon by Kilik.]]
* StudentAndMasterTeam: Out of traveling companions Natsu and Xiba, Leixia is the only one who addresses [[TheCaptain Maxi]] as "Lord Maxi." It is implied she may have a crush on him.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She's the Girly Girl to Natsu's Tomboy, having been raised as the only child of a noble house.
* TragicKeepsake: She has Kilik's (Dvapara-Yuga) necklace, and he is one of the "ill-fated characters" of ''SCV'' as Daishi says, whatever that may mean. However, most of that plotline was cut from the final game.

----

* BadassCape: Complete with hood.
* CassandraTruth: Viola tries to tell Patroklos that his sister is Malfested, but her oblique way of speaking means he doesn't get the message.
* CombatStilettos: Her shoes are a bit like heeled ballet pumps, and are laced up her calves.
* CrystalBall: [[ImprobableWeaponUser Her secondary weapon.]]
* DetectEvil: A variation. She can distinguish Malfested (apparently they remind her of blood moons), but not their personalities- unfettered sadist or tormented victim, they all register the same.
* ElegantGothicLolita: Her overall look.
* FairyTaleMotifs: Her official bio is especially whimsical, listing her birthplace as "a place of roses and lilies" and her blood type as "twisted strings of red and blue," which is in stark contrast to the more factual bios of the rest of the cast.
* FortuneTeller: Has the look of one. Her theme in ''V'' is even entitled "Wandering Seer" and she has a second, Quick Battle-only theme named "Dance of the Oracle."
* GothGirlsKnowMagic: She has the ElegantGothicLolita look, dark personality, and uses magic in battle.
* HotGypsyWoman: Her 2P outfit.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: In a series that prides itself on presenting real-life weapons and fighting styles (with a [[MagicRealism fantasy twist]]), her magic orb stands out as being ''completely'' [[HowUnscientific fantasy based]].
* InvulnerableKnuckles: An extreme example. She wields only a small set of thimble-like claws on her right hand, and in a game where her opponents are armed to the teeth with katanas, giant axes and halberds, it is unclear how she manages to guard and parry their attacks, especially as she simply holds her barely protected ''hands'' up to block.
** However, if one looks closely at Viola while she guards, they will notice a weird, disc-shaped [[BarrierWarrior translucent shield]] momentarily form before her on impact- meaning she doesn't use her claws or bare hands to guard, but magic.
* IdentityAmnesia: Her character blurb states that she is unaware of her past... Hints in this game and the next all but state she's an older Amy.
* InTheHood: Sports a long purple cowl as part of her default costume.
* LadyOfBlackMagic: She primarily uses magic in battle, a first in the series, to move her CrystalBall in attacks. Her overall look is a combination of a FortuneTeller and ElegantGothicLolita, and she has a cold and ominous demeanor.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HErcqxLvssE Wandering Seer]]''
* LossOfIdentity: She describes herself as "empty" and is indifferent (if a little smug) towards almost everyone she defeats. It's not hurting them that she minds, but the fact that ''she'' has no allegiances or opinions in the war tearing up everyone else.
* MundaneUtility: She frequently uses her shiny magic ball as a chair.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: As with Talim, but she at least wields tonfas, a weapon with defensive capabilities that were originally designed (partially) to defend and counter katanas.
* MysteriousWaif: Definitely gives off this vibe.
* OddFriendship: Sees Z.W.E.I. as a kindred spirit, as she believes both of them were given inhuman powers that forces them to have to wander through life alone.
* OjouRinglets: Her hair is styled into two large ringlets that cascade over her shoulders.
* PartsUnknown: Averts the typically bland "unknown" listing in terms of her nationality, though having a birthplace whimsically listed as "a place of roses and lilies" isn't much better either...
* PuppetFighter: One of the first examples of these in a 3D fighting game. Her crystal ball acts as the puppet, and she has a separate movelist for when it's set in play as well as when it's not.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Like Raphael (and Amy), she has reddish eyes.
* ShoutOut: Her oddly lyrical birthplace bio entry owes its origins to Tennyson's 1855 poem ''Maud'', in which it is said of the titular heroine: "You have but fed on the roses and lain in the lilies of life," suggesting a sheltered, protected upbringing.
* StockingFiller: She sports fishnet stockings with a spider-web motif incorporated.
* WolverineClaws: Her weapon, a vicious spiked glove reminiscent of [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet Freddy Krueger's]]. Funnily enough, if your created character uses Viola's style, your only weapon pick is the magic orb. The claw attacks may be done with ''bare hands'' if you want.

* MonkeyKingLite: He's meant to pretty much evoke Sun Wukong, and he's doing a better, more obvious job than Kilik.
* MovesetClone: Of his old man, which is slightly unusual in that unlike the other newcomers in ''V'' who outright replace the characters they inherit their moves from, Kilik ''is'' still a member of the roster - albeit as a DittoFighter who copies the movesets of all male characters.
* NemeanSkinning: He wears a tiger-skin wrapped around his waist, complete with a tail that further enhances his [[Literature/JourneyToTheWest Monkey]] shout-out.

-> After the original Nightmare was slain by Siegfried, Soul Edge was shattered again but was reassembled by its servants five years later. Realizing that it could not unleash its full power without a host but desiring to retain its favorite form, Soul Edge conducted an experiment to see if it could do so by overwriting its new host's memories with those of its past hosts. Taking the name of "Dumas", the new Nightmare decided to forgo [[KillAllHumans all-out slaughter]] in favor of subterfuge and politics. Proving his mettle by singlehandedly waging war against the Ottoman Empire, Dumas ingratiated himself with the court of Emperor Rudolf II and was appointed the Graf of Hungary. Using his position, Dumas instigated a crusade against the "Malfested" -- actually innocent civilians -- and began preparing for a war against the Ottoman Empire -- all while gathering a secret army of Malfested and other monsters to conquer Europe. This new body was slain by Z.W.E.I, and Pyrrha succeeds him as the wielder of Soul Edge, becoming [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Pyrrha Ω]].

->For tropes applying to the original Nightmare, see [[Characters/{{Soulcalibur}} here]]. For the previous incarnation of Nightmare, see [[Characters/SoulcaliburIII here]].
----
* TheArtifact: Nightmare still wields his signature OneHandedZweihander despite the fact that it was previously established that Soul Edge adapts to the form of its host, and was only in that form because it belonged to Siegfried and the memories of it remained during Inferno's run. Here, the host this time is Raphael, and logically Nightmare should be using a rapier rather than a zweihander. The official justification is that Soul Edge ''prefers'' that form, though it comes off as weird because they didn't properly explain ''why'' a weapon beyond mortal understanding would prefer one shape over another, and it certainly didn't have any problem adapting to Pyrrha's style when she claims it. Of course, the ''real'' reason is that Nightmare is the SeriesMascot, iconic for that weapon, and changing it just wouldn't be right.
* {{BFS}}: Soul Edge specifically altered Graf Dumas' memories so that it could retain this form, appearing similarly to when Siegfried wielded it.
* BigBadEnsemble: Competes for the title with [[DragonAscendant Tira]] and [[LightIsNotGood Elysium]].
* CharClone: As "Graf Dumas", as he wears a mask over the upper half of his face to hide his identity. He can wear the mask in-game, if you design a helmetless costume for him in Character Creation - The mask is a unique prop that automatically covers his eyes if no other face-concealing items are on his head.
* CharlieBrownFromOuttaTown: At first it seems like Graf Dumas is an original character made to fill the role of Nightmare. In actuality, he's Raphael in disguise.
* TheChessmaster: In contrast [[BloodKnight to his predecessor]], this Nightmare operates primarily through manipulation, subterfuge, and politicking. Justified, as Soul Edge had become cautious following its prior defeat.
* ContinuityNod: Nightmare's look in ''V'' incorporates elements from ''all'' of the character's past outfits from ''Soulcalibur'' to ''Soulcalibur IV'', although ''II'' is the most prevalent thanks to the bat-wing projections and mane of red hair. He wields a version of Soul Edge nearly identical to the sword's original, pre-''IV'' depiction.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Ultimately defeated by Z.W.E.I. in Chapter 18, leaving Elysium as the FinalBoss.
* EvilChancellor: To Emperor Rudolf II as Graf Dumas.
* EvilRedhead: Similar to the previous Nightmare in ''II'', he has a long mane of red hair.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Though there is much less distortion in his voice compared to the previous Nightmare, both actors use a booming voice in comparison to his "Dumas" identity.
* ExtraStrengthMasquerade: His story-line in ''V'' reveals that he operates behind the scenes under the alias "Graf (Count) Dumas," ruler of the Kingdom of Hungary.
* {{Foil}}: In comparison to the original Nightmare. Whereas the original Nightmare was a hellbent murderer who did everything ForTheEvulz and had little in the way of schemes, this Nightmare is a [[PragmaticVillainy pragmatic]] {{chessmaster}} who manipulates his way to the top through politics, all with the masterplan to TakeOverTheWorld. Another notable difference between the two is that the original put emphasis on himself ("you shall become my nourishment", "I want to hear your anguish"), while this Nightmare places emphasis on his weapon ("My blade has no equal!", "You only exist so that my sword skewers you!"). This is highlighted in-universe by Tira, who ''hates'' this Nightmare, viewing him as weak in-comparison to the original.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: His alias can be considered a clue to his true identity, since Creator/AlexandreDumas was the French author of Literature/TheThreeMusketeers and Graf Dumas is actually Raphael, who is French and sometimes even looks like a musketeer.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: A cunning nobleman seeking to create the perfect world for the sake of his daughter, who has had little to no actual bearing in the story proper, now takes center stage as the villain.
* InterfaceSpoiler: If you load Nightmare into Character Creation and opt to craft a custom outfit for him, you get to see him without his helmet, revealing that he is none other than Raphael. Downplayed somewhat, in that this is never directly revealed in the game itself, only indirectly hinted at.
* InTheHood: His 2P outfit. It makes him look like a less-clothed [[VideoGame/MortalKombat9 Noob Saibot]].
* LargeHam: While this Nightmare has shown to be very different from the previous, this remains the same.
* LegacyCharacter: This Nightmare is a completely different from the one in the previous games, with a new host and new personality.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7Hikaj8ub0 Pavor Nocturnus]]''
* OneHandedZweihander: Like the version of Nightmare that existed in ''Soulcalibur III'' and ''IV'', this new Nightmare wields the Soul Edge in {{BFS}} form with a single hand (and, again, it is his un-mutated arm).
* OneManArmy: ''New Legends of Project Soul'' describes him of being capable of decimating entire armies with Soul Edge's power flooding his body. His legendary combat prowess was what caused the Emperor to take interest in him, and give Dumas the political strength he needed to enact his plan.
* ReplacementGoldfish: ''New Legends of Project Soul'' reveals that Graf Dumas was one for Siegfried, with Soul Edge attempting to maintain its zweihander form while still taking a new host. It was dissatisfied with the results, which is why it was happy to select Pyrrha as its next host.
* SuckSessor:
** Tira ''hates'' what he's become because he's no longer slaughtering everything left, right, and centre and is instead trying to control the world rather than destroy everything on-sight. Tira being Tira, she believes that this is because he's an ''impostor''.
** Soul Edge itself sees Graf Dumas as this to Siegfried because it was unable to unleash its full power ''and'' retain its preferred form while being wielded by him.
* TakeOverTheWorld: His ultimate goal. Seeing as how Soul Edge takes on the memories and personality of its host, with Siegfried, he fought rather recklessly without much strategy. With Raphael as his host, however, Nightmare has become Soul Calibur's equivalent to [[Franchise/CodeGeass Zero]], as his new modus operandi involves manipulating governments to his advantage so he can secretly rebuild his malfested army of soulless slaves to rule Europe.
* TechnicolorFire: ''New Legends of Project Soul'' states that the purple flames he wields burn both his own flesh as well as that of his opponents.
* TinTyrant: He is the count of Hungary and wears a full suit of armor at all times, though in his human disguise he lacks a helmet.
* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: ''New Legends of Project Soul'' makes it clear that Soul Edge is rather disappointed in Graf Dumas as far as hosts go, as trying to take over Raphael's body necessitated tampering with his memories to control him and keep its preferred form. The new Nightmare exudes more of Raphael's personality traits, and even after overwriting his memories Soul Edge couldn't unleash its full power without transforming to suit Raphael's fighting style. It's very telling that the sword is all too happy to bond with Pyrrha, who has been mentally broken by her brother's abandonment and possessed a fighting style it was eager to utilize against Soul Calibur.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: How does he fool everyone as Graf Dumas with his [[BodyHorror giant]] [[ObviouslyEvil clawed]] [[RedRightHand arm]]? By hiding it and assuming a more presentable appearance, that's how. Dumas reveals his true identity to Patroklos by shapeshifting back into Nightmare.
* YourSoulIsMine: In addition to absorbing souls using Soul Edge, he can rip a person's soul out using his demonic arm.
* WalkingSpoiler: The true identity of "Graf Dumas", the host he possesses in ''V'', spoils the sudden changes in his design and personality. He is actually Raphael.

->The origin of the voice that called out to Cassandra as she touched Soul Calibur in her ending in ''IV''. As Inferno is the embodiment of Soul Edge, so too is Elysium to Soul Calibur. While Inferno seeks to bring chaos to the world, Elysium wishes to bring order. However, her methods for doing so are that of a WellIntentionedExtremist[=/=]KnightTemplar who is willing to remove all obstacles in that path. Realizing this, the tribe Algol assigned to guard Soul Calibur sealed the Spirit Sword's will away and implemented rules to prevent it from being reawakened. Millennia later, Soul Calibur's will was revived by the clash between Siegfried and Nightmare that occurred following the events of ''III''. When Siegfried was mortally wounded, Soul Calibur encased his body in crystal (leaving a shard of itself embedded within his body) and claimed him as its host during the events of ''IV'', using his mutual hatred of Soul Edge to defeat Nightmare and shatter Soul Edge before falling into a decade-long slumber. With Soul Edge's return imminent, she awakened once more, but deemed Siegfried an unsatisfactory host due to him having grown older and wary of her. Finding a worthy host in Patroklos, it appears to him in the image of his mother, flat-out lying to him that there is no way to save Pyrrha from her fate. When Patroklos ultimately refuses to be her pawn, she attempts to forcibly seize control of his body and turn him into her own equivalent of Nightmare, but Patroklos and Pyrrha subdue her together and seemingly destroy both Soul Calibur and Soul Edge.

----

* AngelicBeauty: Appears as a beautiful, winged woman dressed in white and surrounded by an aura of light.
* AnthropomorphicPersonification: Elysium is to Soul Calibur what Inferno is to Soul Edge.
* BeautyIsBad: As the manifestation of Soul Caliber, she resembles a beautiful angel. But despite wanting to put an end to Soul Edge, she acts utterly ruthless and manipulative in achieving that goal, seeing and using her wielders as pawns.
* BigBad: The ultimate final villain and biggest threat in ''V''.
* BigBadEnsemble: Alongside Graf Dumas - the [[LegacyCharacter new Nightmare]] - and [[DragonAscendant Tira]].
* TheChessmaster: Manipulates Siegfried and Patroklos to attain her own goals.
* CrystalPrison: She traps Patroklos in one in order to seize control of his body.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Inferno, being the manifestation of Soul Calibur's will.
* DittoFighter: She matches the moves of the female characters, but has exclusive moves when posing as Pyrrha Ω. Her Critical Edge will always be the same, however.
* EarlyBirdCameo: She berates Cassandra for trying to destroy Soul Calibur in her ending in ''IV''.
* TheFaceless: Wears a mask that covers most of her face in battle. It's noticeably missing when she first meets Patroklos, since at the time she's impersonating Sophitia, but she creates a visor over her face once she makes clear her true identity and intentions. She can be customized not to wear it, though. In fact, you only have access to her visor on Character Creation through DLC.
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: While technically genderless due to being the embodiment of a holy sword, she changed her appearance to resemble the deceased Sophitia because it was what Patroklos, Sophitia's son, wanted to see, which made it easier for her to manipulate him.
* GemstoneAssault: She can fire shards of crystal that can either damage or heal.
* GrandTheftMe: When Patroklos refused to follow her plans, she attempted to turn him into her version of Nightmare, kind of like what she briefly did to Siegfried in ''V'''s opening cinematic.
* HolyHandGrenade: Her [[LimitBreak Critical Edge]] no matter the moveset involves [[PowerGivesYouWings spreading wings]] and calling light from above, which heavily damages the opponent.
* KnightTemplar: After seeing Siegfried's ''SCIV'' ending and ''SCV'''s bad ending, ''yes''.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Manipulated Patroklos into fighting and killing his Malfested sister (and host to Soul Edge) Pyrrha so she can destroy Soul Edge. Unfortunately for her, Patroklos catches wind of her intentions, turns her down, and goes back in time to save Pyrrha instead.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRTi4hvJhKY Sacred Dawn]]''
* LightIsNotGood: She is the AnthropomorphicPersonification of [[UnholyHolySword Soul Calibur]]. As was discovered in ''IV'', it doesn't necessarily want justice and peace but unfettered order and serenity so it will go to extreme lengths to impose those upon the world.
* MalevolentMaskedWoman: As she reveals her true identity as Soul Calibur itself, she manifests a visor over her face when preparing to fight Patroklos. By her own admission, the visor signifies her lack of a true face, since she actually is a genderless, living weapon; as her face under the visor (which is Sophitia's) and her whole human female appearance had been nothing but a façade created solely for the sake of deceiving Patroklos.
* ManipulativeBastard: Manipulates Siegfried in ''IV'' and Patroklos in ''V'', and tries to manipulate Cassandra in her ending in ''IV''.
* MeaningfulName: Elysium is basically the Greek form of Heaven for warriors which makes it the opposite of Inferno, who is named after Hell.
* MsFanservice: Not only she takes on [[GorgeousGreek Sophitia's form]] (who is considered one of the biggest beauties in the series), but she is even more scantily clad than Ivy.
* MythologyGag: When she mimics Lexia's moveset, Soul Calibur takes on the form it had in ''[=SoulCalibur=] II''.
* NoBiologicalSex: Technically genderless; she only takes a female form (specifically, Sophitia's form) out of necessity to manipulate Patroklos.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: She looks like an angel but is in fact the manifestation of Soul Calibur, in the same way that Inferno is the manifestation of Soul Edge.
* PerpetualMolt: In her intro, her wings shed feathers.
* PetTheDog: She leaves some of her healing shards in Siegfried's body, which saved his life.
* PowerEchoes: When Soul Calibur is restored, her voice becomes distorted like that of a Malfested, a serious tipoff that she's not who she claims to be.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: Her ultimate goal is to destroy Soul Edge and bring absolute peace and order to the world, but her methods called for [[ManipulativeBastard manipulating]] and outright [[GrandTheftMe possessing]] her wielders.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Is possibly the ''least'' clad character in the entire series. Yes, even less than ''Ivy at her worst'', although her 2P outfit is much less revealing.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Wants to bring [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans absolute peace to the world]]. By freezing everyone solid, or by using Patroklos as a puppet to enforce her will.
* WingsDoNothing: Despite her wings, she is not immune to {{Ring Out}}s.

This is because the first Yoshimitsu was fatally wounded by Cervantes upon his return, and wanted to die honorably. Unfortunately, Yoshimitsu II's hatred for evildoers, especially Cervantes, makes it difficult for him to properly wield the Yoshimitsu blade, forcing him to use a sacred Fu-Ma sword to act as the BalanceBetweenGoodAndEvil. He was also the one who led Leixia to the Fu-Ma clan.
----

* KlingonPromotion: The Yoshimitsu of ''V'' defeated the original to become the new Manji leader, as only one man can hold the title of Yoshimitsu at a time.
* LegacyCharacter: The second man to hold the title of Yoshimitsu, after the first was slain.
* MercyKill: Slain the original not because he wanted the title for himself, but because the first wanted to die honorably and not of his wounds.
* {{Revenge}}: His ultimate goal is the kill Cervantes and avenge his predecessor.
* ShooOutTheClowns: Yoshimitsu II is a more serious and focused individual, appearing to be more devoted to his training and developing his fighting style. He is also less quirky than the original, although he retains some of the first Yoshimitsu's humorous mannerisms.

-> The original Astaroth was slain in a decisive battle with Maxi in ''IV'', and his heart was harvested by Ashlotte and brought back to the cult. During the timeskip, a new sect of the cult lead by Kunpaetku created several new Astaroth-like golems using the heart, which this is one of them.

-> Astaroth replaces Rock as the series' ax-wielder. He is slow, but can do ridiculous damage once he gets momentum. Later games brought in new focus on his throw game, molding him into the series' "grappler" character.

----

* BeatStillMyHeart: His chest has an exposed heart.
* BoisterousBruiser: An evil version of the trope. He's a bloodthirsty golem who is nonetheless very boisterous and loud in battle.
* TheDragon: To Nightmare, to a [[TheStarscream certain]] [[UnwittingPawn extent]].
* EvilKnockoff: To Rock. He was the template used to create Astaroth.
* {{Golem}}: This is especially apparent in ''V'', where Astaroth becomes less and less human-looking (his alternate in ''V'' even has a furnace in place of the lower torso, kinda like Fygul Cestemus didn't have this part in stock and they improvised something to connect the chest to the hip).
* LargeHam: Always screaming and shouting for the opponent to die and scream.
* LegacyCharacter: This Astaroth is apparently a new character (described as his "brother"), said to be more powerful than the previous Astaroth.
* {{Leitmotif}}: The old, deceased Astaroth never had one. For the new and current Astaroth, ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF2REfsVvt0 Chainless Disaster]]''.
* MightyGlacier: Like Rock, he is slow and doesn't have much combo ability, yet his attacks deal huge amounts of damage.
* MonochromaticEyes: A staple of his appearance since ''SC''. Aside from yellow eyes in ''III'', other games have him with white eyes of this sort.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Astaroth is the Crowned Prince of Hell in demonology. Such a name suggests already that he is not to be messed with.
* NoIndoorVoice: Every line of dialogue is a bellowing roar.
* ObviouslyEvil: He has a huge monstrous appearance, MonochromaticEyes, and his quotes are mostly about killing the opponent and wishing to hear him scream.
* SkullForAHead: In ''V'' he has, well... a skull for a head.
* TempleOfDoom: The Palgaea Cult is located in the [[UsefulNotes/{{Iran}} Persian Desert]] (modern-day Iran), as evidenced by the [[AllThereInTheManual story mode map and accompanying text]] in ''III''.
* UniquenessDecay: The original Astaroth was the only one of his kind, mainly because he turned against his cult until Maxi slayed him. This one is apparently part of a complete, mass-produced line and there are others that exist.
* WeCanRebuildHim: This Astaroth in ''V'' is supposedly a new golem not even a year old.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Throughout the series, he's the character with the most variety of wrestling moves, even more than Rock who's moving towards less of a grappling role.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: He's actually younger than Talim. As of ''V'', he isn't even ''one'' yet.

Seeking vengeance, he embraced his true heritage as an Assassin, and worked his way up to become one of the most prominent leaders the order had ever known.
->Before departing for Spain to assassinate Cesare Borgia, he heard rumors of a mysterious artifact that the Knights Templar were hoping to harness against the monarchy under Queen Catalina. After laying waste to the conspirators, he interacted with this artifact and was somehow transported 100 years into the future - the 16th century, where he did battle against a variety of unusual and supernatural foes. It was not long though before he returned back to his home time and finished his mission, embarking on a ship for Navarre according to historical records.
----
* BadassCape: A white half-cape, which conveniently covers all of his left-side weapons when not in use.
* BadassNormal: Arguably considered to be one, at least compared to most of the other characters and guest fighters in the ''Soul'' series.
* BattleThemeMusic: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt2qhuTWrs4 Uses a cover of]] ''Assassin's Creed II'''s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EaRHlo4B0Y "Venice Rooftops"]] chase theme as seen in his announcement trailer.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: His Hidden Blades, which he uses for many of his melee attacks, including an unblockable attack that resembles the high-profile "flying" assassinations in the ''Assassin's Creed'' series. His Hidden Gun also counts, as it's mounted alongside on his left-forearm hidden blade.
* CanonWelding: The official backstory has Ezio making a stop in his quest to kill Cesare Borgia to recover a treasure that the Templars stole when they raided Forlì; however, as soon as he opens the box, the Animus flips out and jumps ahead to Ezio waiting for the ship to Navarre. This sets the event just before the final battle of ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedBrotherhood''.
* CounterAttack: He doesn't have any in the traditional sense, but as a nod to those being such a staple tool of his series' combat, some of Ezio's attacks deal more damage as attack throws if they're landed as counter hits.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Downplayed in comparison to most examples in the series; he hails from the late 15th century/early 16th century, approximately one century before the events of ''Soul Calibur''.
* ForeignCussWord: When his grapple is blocked, Ezio may shout "Cazzo!" (Fuck!), amongst other choice words at other times.
* FullNameBasis: Is the only character whose last name is displayed and read by the announcer.
* GratuitousItalian: He was born and raised in 1400s Italy, and peppers his quotes with Italian and Latin.
* GuestFighter: Confirmed to be playable in both the [[UsefulNotes/PlayStation3 PS3]] and UsefulNotes/XBox360 versions, due to ''Franchise/AssassinsCreed'' being multi-platform.
* HitlerCam: Used when he wins a match.
* IconicOutfit: He wears his hooded white robes from ''Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood''.
* InTheHood: He wears the hooded robes of the Brotherhood of Assassins.
%%* JackOfAllTrades
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: His intro quote as the first fighter ("Insieme per la vittoria!") roughly translate to "Together, we will be victorious!". Make of it what you will [[labelnote:*]]Maybe he's talking to Desmond Miles?[[/labelnote]]. It also counts as a ShoutOut, to the first words we hear him say in VideoGame/AssassinsCreedII. Alternatively, it may just be "together" in a rhetorical sense, referring to the Brotherhood of Assassins.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_O6F5FwQ0s Venice Rooftops (SCV Mix)]]''
* MeaningfulName: Ezio being derived from a Greek word for eagle, he's "The Eagle of Florence."
* MultiMeleeMaster: Just look at the weapons he has in his arsenal! To quote [[Creator/NiccoloMachiavelli Machiavelli]] in his announcement trailer: "Before else, be armed."
** Shown mainly during his Critical Edge attack, where he slashes his opponent with his stiletto, hidden blade, ''and'' longsword, then finishes the attack with a crossbow bolt and an immediate follow-up hidden gun shot.
** Namco Bandai actually cited this as ''the'' main challenge when it came to balancing Ezio as a fighting game character.
** NamedWeapons: Somewhat averted, in a similar manner as the ''Franchise/StarWars'' guest fighters, as the site simply gives his weapon name as "The Hidden Blade." This is funny, as this only applies to one out of God knows how many weapons he has. The Japanese profile refers to it as "Assassin Blade."
* MythologyGag: ''Assassin's Creed II'' has an achievement named "No-Hitter" for killing 10 enemies in a single fight with no damage. ''Soulcalibur V'' has an achievement also named "No-Hitter" for winning 10 ranked matches as Ezio.
** Activating his Critical Edge results in an eagle screeching before Ezio begins -- using the same sound effect done when performing a Leap of Faith in ''Assassin's Creed.''
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: "I tried to warn you!" (said before Ezio performs his Critical Edge attack.)
* ProfessionalKiller: His reveal trailer even dubs him "Master Assassin." Quoting Leonardo da Vinci, "Our lives are made by the death of others."
