The Spartoi of ''Soul Eater'' are a group of the young E.A.T. meisters and weapons who received their promotion after their performance during the Baga Yaga Invasion of Arachnophobia. They are a collection of the best of the best, even being rewarded the ranking of Two-Stars.

Doctor Stein teaches them in Class Crescent Moon.

They consist of two teams formed during Resonance Link tests: Team Maka, the main trio of characters who kicked off ''Soul Eater'' itself, and Team Kilik, the beta team that slowly grew in prominence starting with the Lost Island mission.

[[folder: Spartoi in General]]
* AlwaysInClassOne: No coincidence all members of Spartoi are classmates from Class Crescent Moon.
* BadassCrew: A group of elite E.A.T. students selected to face Witches and evil masterminds.
* ColorMotifs: White and blue are the two colors of choice for Spartoi uniforms. [[BlueIsHeroic Blue is pretty obvious why]], white may be a reference to Death's mask.
* RankUp: All members of Spartoi were One-Star students who were given Two Stars when the group was formed.
* SatelliteCharacter: While Soul, Tsubaki, and the Thompson sisters avert this, Harvar, Jackie, and the Pots have their characterizations defined by their partners to varying degrees. The Pots fare the worst, their only defining traits outside of being Kilik's partner's being their young age and "Earth shamans". Jackie gets ''some'' exploration of her character via ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'', but even then a large portion of her character there is defined by wanting to befriend Kim. Harvar ultimately fares the best, being established as a PragmaticHero and TheSpock, but still falls under this due to mostly only appearing when Ox does.

BadassBookworm and meister to Soul. Her goal is to obtain the 100 souls required to turn Soul into a Death Scythe. She is a kind, mature, and responsible girl with a HotBlooded streak and something of a short fuse.
-----
* ActionGirl: She's always ready to throw down when her friends need her. She's only a teenage girl, but fights and defeats monsters, witches, and evil forces with a huge badass scythe. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And all while wearing a miniskirt]].
* ACupAngst: She has a flat figure, and tends to be upset when this is pointed out. She's also often jealous when around [[BuxomBeautyStandard buxom women]] like Blair. This anxiety is played-up in the manga.
* AlmightyJanitor: At the beginning, Maka doesn't have the amazing raw talent and lineage that Black Star and Kid have and compared to them her growth is slow. Maka though through just hard work, and study is able to keep up and at times exceed the other two. On paper she might not be anything special but she is shown to be consistently a truly formidable fighter. [[spoiler:Gets averted later when Soul becomes a Death Scythe]].
** [[{{AvertedTrope}} Averted]]: ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'' came out later; but as a {{prequel}} it showed that Maka was ''never'' considered "normal." She's in the top 10% of the school; and one of the few who are expected to actually fight evil. (Most DWMA students are trained enough so they don't accidentally hurt themselves or others.)
* AndTheAdventureContinues: It's implied in her closing words in the manga that she still intends to reunite with Crona someday, in spite of their [[spoiler:current imprisonment in the black blood moon.]]
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: She has the most effective Soul Perception of any of the main characters, an ability said to be at least somewhat tied to a meister's natural perceptiveness.
* AxCrazy: [[spoiler:Under the effect of the black blood when fighting Crona]].
* BadassAdorable: She's a monster on the battlefield but outside of combat she's a very sweet young girl that has an unassuming and unthreatening appearance.
* BadassBookworm: Soul is her weapon of choice. Her second favorite weapon? A nice, hard [[ThrowTheBookAtThem book]].
* BadassInDistress: What Maka goes through through [[spoiler:in the Envy and Sloth chapters]]. She gets back in action soon enough, though.
* BadassLongcoat: Her signature black one, which she wears over her school uniform.
* BerserkButton:
** Maka finds Medusa extremely frustrating to deal with, especially since Maka seems to want to find the best in everyone.
** Another thing that triggers this is Blair's flirtations with Soul, or Soul and Black Star's immature jokes. Understandable, as she is quite mature and serious in comparison with them, so such behavior would naturally annoy her.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: Gains these in the anime during the final fight with Asura when it is revealed that her [[spoiler:father's blood has made her part weapon]].
* BookSmart: She's the only student to get a perfect score on the Ultimate Written Exam.
* ButNotTooForeign: She's half-Japanese on her mother's side, half NonSpecificallyForeign on her father's side, and grew up in Death City (which is physically in the US, though not culturally American).
* CallingTheOldManOut: When Maka's dad tries to bond with her by having her watch the sunset with him, she responds by questioning why he would cheat on her mom.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "I'll take your soul." Or something similar.
* CharacterDevelopment: She's always been a pretty kind and sweet girl, but she did have her temper moments at first. As the series progressed, her temper issues are replaced with being more responsible and courageous.
* ChildhoodFriends: Grew up with Black*Star, who she's always seen as a dependable friend, despite finding him annoying at times.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Shows signs of this - though a technically platonic example, the nature of the relationship between meisters and weapons is often almost identical to an ACTUAL relationship in how characters treat it. She's clearly not happy when she sees Soul with Blair. Later, she starts getting jealous when Soul becomes popular and other meisters start asking him to become their partner (via what are very nearly ''love letters'')
* ColorCodedEyes: Her green eyes, often associated with magic and mystery. Not only does Maka have the ability to resonate with a supernatural weapon/partner but she also [[spoiler:possesses a rare type of soul that allows her to use Soul to fly.]]
* CombatBreakdown: While she normally performs fancy moves with Soul in combat, such as spinning him like a baton and even shooting ranged attacks from his scythe form, in her battle with Asura, it's [[spoiler:a punch to the face that finishes him off.]]
** In general, if she can't conveniently use Soul, she's comfortable just punching people.
* CombatSadomasochist: [[spoiler:Shows signs of this when under the effects of the black blood; for example, she asks to Crona to "do something gruesome to her" or to "pluck out her eyes or tongue"]].
* CoolBigSis: She tries to be one to Crona, though their upbringing makes it difficult for Crona to adjust socially. [[spoiler:In the manga her acting like this it a major part in getting Crona to help the heroes stop Asura.]]
* CuteBruiser: Not readily apparent because she mostly uses a cutting weapon, but in her second fight with Crona she shows she can just punch pretty damn hard. [[spoiler:Not to mention in the anime, she defeats Asura and cracks his body apart with nothing but a punch to his face.]]
* DemonSlaying: One of the few characters gifted with the sought-after anti-demon wavelength. As a result, she's extremely sensitive to and good a killing anything "demonic", and great at canceling out madness through soul resonance.
* {{Determinator}}: The only thing that can stop her is unconsciousness or death. Really. This is more focused on in the manga [[spoiler:particularly when fighting against the mad clown and destroying Arachne]], where her absolute grim determination tops everything else.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: At least to some, Maka's [[SpectacularSpinning scythe-spinning]] is reminiscent of color guard flag-spinning.
* DopeSlap: Her own take on the Reaper Chop, which she uses to let people know she isn't taking their idiocy.
* DoesNotLikeMen: Her father Spirit's womanizing habits drove her mother away, leading her to believe all men are terrible. It may be a {{downplayed}} example since it rarely affects her friendships with Black Star, Kid, and her partnership with Soul.
* DumbBlonde: Inverted, she's TheSmartGuy in the group.
* ExpressiveHair: In the anime her pigtails stand up and/or wiggle when she's agitated.
* FatalFlaw: Her impulsivity and her poor self-esteem. Thanks to her issues with her parents and her own status as the "normal" on her team, she carries a lot of self-doubt about her skills, her worth as a Meister, and even her looks. This faulty self-worth causes her to work hard to prove herself but sometimes makes her overzealous and nearly gets her killed. Her CharacterDevelopment is centered on her accepting herself and her shortcomings to truly improve.
* {{Forgiveness}}: She's willing to see Crona as an abused child and chooses to befriend them. [[spoiler:After Crona's betrayal of Shibusen, Maka again tries to bring them back to the academy, even willing to plunge into Asura to bring them back. While Crona chooses to stay, Maka's words resonate with Crona and they help the heroes stop the Kishin.]]
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Choleric. Extroverted, determined, but prone to aggression and impulsivity.
* GenerationXerox: Somewhat, with her mother; moreso in the anime.
* GirlishPigtails: Her trademark hairstyle is two long pigtails, illustrating her youthfulness and brattish demeanor.
* GreenEyedMonster: The Envy Chapter forces Maka to acknowledge her envy of the other meisters who want to be Soul's partner, people like Liz who can appreciate music with Soul, and music itself.
* {{Hammerspace}}: Where ''does'' that book come from?
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Maka has a ''lot'' of secret insecurities about her strength as a meister. Something of a TearJerker in how it comes about, illustrated by her seeming inability to pull off one of her signature moves, and coming after a period of Maka having gained much greater confidence and increased ability in the areas which troubled her earlier on; see how she handles both Arachne and Gopher.
* HiddenDepths: She has a very childish taste in music, which all the other Spartoi enjoy picking on her for.
* HonorBeforeReason: Happens multiple times; first, during Italy she tries to save the thugs who attacked her and Soul earlier that day because they were in danger from Crona. Later, she risks her own life and sanity by giving into the Black Blood to help Crona, who was actually her enemy at the time. Lastly, she once allows Black Star to punch her because she punched him earlier out of anger at his jerkass remarks towards her, even though he very well deserved the punch (though this scene was only in the anime).
* ICantDance: Maka usually says she can't dance. When she dances with Soul or her father, she lets them lead.
* IdealHero: She starts out with some temper issues, but over time she develops into this, even managing to overcome her fear.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:Being a mere human with an interfering black blood ability, Asura decides to take care of Maka first and stabs her straight through her chest with his hand. Soul helps her NoSell it with Black Blood.]]
* ImprobableWeaponUser: This might not be as outlandish as other characters' cases, but if you consider that a scythe is a legitimate agricultural hand tool, this could be applicable. Scythes are incredibly difficult to use effectively in real combat. Though, if one ''was'' used, it would probably be like how Maka does it in the first episode of the anime.
%%* {{Joshikousei}}: In the manga, after [[spoiler:becoming part of Spartoi]].
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: [[spoiler:The BlackBlood dress armor]].
* LamarckWasRight: In the anime she both gains the ability of Demon Hunter, which was created by her mother, and [[spoiler:her weapon form from her father.]]
* LaughingMad: [[spoiler:When under the influence of the black blood]].
* TheLeader: Elected as leader of their Chain Resonance team by Stein. Although, the three of them rarely actually work together much until near the end of the series.
* LegFocus: Given how she's a borderline DanceBattler when fighting, there are plenty of scenes and shots which put her legs on display. The anime in general also has some deliberate MaleGaze shots that specifically highlight her thighs.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: She and Soul come off a lot like this. They are very comfortable around each other, they live together, have the occasional lover's spat and SnarkToSnarkCombat and can read each other well. Arachne even comments one of the fights they had as entertaining.
* MagicSkirt: In the anime. Although there are actually a few shots up her skirt in the first episode when she's fighting Jack the Ripper, and a brief one if you look closely in the opening theme 2.
* MissingMom: Her mother is traveling around the world.
* MoralityChain: She ends up being one to Crona. [[spoiler:Crona admits to not caring much about the world as a whole, but decides to save it anyway because that's what Maka wants.]]
* MsExposition: As TheSmartGirl in her group, she's often the one to fill the audience in on the verse's workings.
* MsFanservice: While Maka mostly avoids this starting from the first chapter, later color pages end up showing her...um... [[IncrediblyLamePun development]]. Especially with the color page of Square Enix for Chapter 77, where her outfit looks quite similar to ''[[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Yoko's]]'', or ''Franchise/BlackRockShooter''. The fanservice from her is much more direct in the anime, as [[MaleGaze the camera]] does a pretty good job at making her look quite sexy in battle scenes, with her extremely short skirt and smooth long legs often emphasized while she's also kicking bad guy ass.
* NiceGirl: She's generally very kind, sweet and helpful towards everyone, except in the occasional circumstance when Soul is really frustrating her.
* NotSoAboveItAll: [[spoiler:When turned into a boy in the Lust chapter of the Book of Eibon, she acts the exact same way Soul does around a nude Blair when she meets the [[SuccubiAndIncubi Succubs]], complete with NoseBleed. [[LampshadeHanging She even acknowledges this]]]].
* OddFriendship: With Black Star. They have been shown to see each other as good friends and spend a lot of time hanging out, even though they have completely opposite personalities, goals, and morals.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: [[spoiler:Maka to Crona after their FaceHeelTurn and complete descent into madness. She's so determined to get Crona back to their senses that, while hunting for them along with a few other Spartoi members in Italy, she pretends not to know where Crona is when she's actually found them right away, and sends the others on a WildGooseChase to ensure their confrontation remains one-on-one; she even goes without Soul. The only ones aware of her determination (Soul, Black Star, and Tsubaki) respect her decision to fight alone, but make themselves available in case things go south.]]
* OnlySaneWoman: Black Star's pretty much an arrogant jerk, and Kid's an obsessive freak over symmetry. By contrast Maka is smart, mature, and practical.
* OpenTheIris: Inverted as her normally invisible pupils become visible when emotionally shocked or when she uses her soul perception.
* OppositesAttract: She's smart, kind, responsible, and strong willed, whereas her partner Soul is arrogant, snarky, careless and laid back.
* PluckyGirl: Determination and courage are her main qualities.
* PowerGivesYouWings: [[spoiler:In the manga she's able to give Soul wings to fly once he becomes a Death Scythe.]]
* ThePowerOfFriendship: She's the one to [[spoiler:get Crona to pull a HeelFaceTurn and even though Crona eventually betrays the academy, her getting through to him is what finally gets Crona to help them stop Asura.]]
* PragmaticHero: She has a moment near the end of the anime. She finally arrives to confront Medusa when Crona and Marie are in the middle of fighting her and Professor Stein. Marie pleads for Maka not to harm Medusa for the sake of Rachel, with Medusa reminding them of her deal with Lord Death. Maka's response is to shout [[ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight "I DON'T GIVE A DAMN!"]] and keep attacking anyway.
* TheProtagonist: It's her story overall. Despite a lot of side plots focusing on other characters, she's the focus of the main story. As the most normal of the characters, she fills the role of the audience as well.
* RedIsHeroic: She's easily the most heroic character, and her skirt and scythe are both red.
* RedOniBlueOni: Zigzagged. Initially, Maka relies on reasoning and intelligence to fight, while Soul uses impulse to make decisions. Later on, however, CharacterDevelopment sees Maka becoming more headstrong, while Soul in contrast takes a calmer, more collected outlook.
* SayMyName: She screams Crona's name in her fight with him in episode 20, and screams "MEDUSAAAAA!" quite a few times in their final fight in episodes 44 and 45.
* SchoolUniformsAreTheNewBlack: She's almost always seen wearing some kind of school uniform - be it at school itself, when out on missions (coupled with her signature black longcoat) or just hanging out.
* ScreamingWarrior: In the anime, she has shades of this. Being voiced by Creator/LauraBailey tends to do that to characters.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: She does this several times over the course of the series, usually involving Crona ([[spoiler:especially when she defies an order to ''execute'' her friend, and instead sets out to save him.]]) She apparently shares this trait with both parents.
* SheCleansUpNicely: She looks quite stunning in [[http://www.zerochan.net/152909 a dress]].
* ShipTease: A subtle example with Soul - while her disliking of him being with other girls can be chalked up to her own parental issues with Spirit, [[spoiler:her appearance as a boy in the Book of Eibon's Lust chapter has a noticable resemblence to Soul. Keep in mind that one's GenderBender appearance in that chapter corresponds to the individual's idealized partner would look like]].
* SignificantAnagram: Maka is an anagram of "kama", which means "scythe" in Japanese.
* SlasherSmile: [[spoiler:Gives some crazy ones while influenced by the Black Blood.]]
* TheSmartGirl: Plays this role for the team by being the one to analyze situations.
* SpectacularSpinning: Twirls weapon-form Soul around for this effect.
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: Although she really doesn't have an evil side; she's still the heroine at all times and displayed as primarily the only character with no evil in her, but the black blood does make her stronger.
* TalentedButTrained: She's shown to be skilled as a Scythe Meister and as an EAT Student, she's a cut above the rest. But there were times where she had to develop her scythe-handling skills by herself because her partner, Soul, used to do all the cool stuff, not her. Also, [[spoiler:when she gets her Grigori Soul]], that took some time to master, even if it's an innate and rare type of soul. Most importantly, Maka's intelligence is her greatest asset and has several academic feats to her name, like getting 1st on the Super Written Exam, but that doesn't discuss the fact she studied voraciously weeks in advance to make it happen. Fittingly, she strikes the midline between Death the Kid and Black*Star.
* TeenGenius: She's the most intelligent of the main cast, both acing her school work and very perceptive about soul wavelengths and how to use them in battle.
* ThrowTheBookAtThem: Maka Chop! Which she frequently uses to whack anyone who annoys her.
* {{Tsundere}}: A mild Type B. She is almost always very kind-hearted and sweet, but she has her temper moments. Primarily when seeing Soul with Blair. More accurately, she is this a bit at the start of the series, but through her CharacterDevelopment, eventually only the sweet and kind-hearted side remains.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Her and Soul. Soul is largely the result of her occasional {{Tsundere}} moments. But, they are deep down best friends who always look out for each other.
* WackyParentSeriousChild: Maka's more down-to-earth, while her dad's a goofball.
* WaifFu: Despite being a very thin young teenager, Maka is capable of fighting just as well as the rest of the Spartoi.
* WeakButSkilled: Compared to the two other protagonist groups, she's a lot less powerful: She doesn't have Black Star's raw strength that allows him to do soul purges, nor does she have the abilities of a Grim Reaper like Death the Kid. However, she's quite studious and has trained to be able to use many advanced techniques like Witch Hunter to allow her to match up. Also, because she's much smarter than both Kid and Black Star, she's often able to use her brains alone to defeat enemies they can't defeat due to their recklessness. Considering she is the only weapon-meister among them to be the closest to turn her weapon-partner into a Death Scythe (or in the manga's case, succeeding after one failed attempt), it speaks volumes.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: [[spoiler:The Black Blood stops her from feeling pain but causes hell on her mental state.]]
* WomenAreWiser: She's much more level headed than the guys in her team and the smartest in her class. [[spoiler:In the anime, she's the one who figured out how to defeat Asura; it boiled down to being wiser than him.]]

!!Soul "Eater" Evans
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KoukiUchiyama (Japanese), Creator/SoichiroHoshi (Japanese - CD dramas), Creator/MicahSolusod (English), Creator/StefanoCrescentini (Italian)
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/34721.jpg]]
Maka's snarky Demon Scythe partner, who constantly strives to be a "cool" guy, with mixed success. He's also a talented pianist, but suffers some resentment towards his more gifted violinist brother, Wes.
-----
* AcheyScars: In the manga, his scar from Ragnarok aches as Medusa experiments with Crona's black blood more and more.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Maka's safety comes before his own, no ifs, ands, or buts.
* AxCrazy: [[spoiler:When the black blood [[SanitySlippage decides to act up]].]]
* CharacterCatchphrase: Seems to have a preference for using the word "Cool".
* CharacterDevelopment:
** He even gets a costume to change to signify his character development (notable in that he is the only character in the series to gain a new wardrobe come Season 3). Soul is first portrayed as a very laidback and level-headed guy who also had a hot-headed, {{Jerkass}} streak a mile long. As the series progresses, Soul proves to be very, very competent and kindhearted.
** He eventually becomes the cool, level-headed one instead of Maka.
** Come Season 3, he also ditches a lot of his quirky attributes and turns more serious.
* CharacterTitle: Subverted. [[http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.manga-news.com/index.php/actus/2009/03/20/Interview-Atsushi-Ohkubo He isn't the Soul Eater]] in ''Manga/SoulEater''. [[spoiler:It refers to the Kishin Asura.]]
* CelibateHero: Though often bursting out into nosebleeds at the sight of Blair, Soul does not make any romantic endeavors throughout the anime. The manga generally avoids this as well, as while he Maka have a lot of ShipTease, they remain mostly just close friends through and through.
* CombatPragmatist: He causes Blair to let her guard down (and thus letting him slice through her) by deceiving not only her, but Maka as well; he silently comes from out of nowhere and stabs Free in the chest when Free is waiting for the next person to rush forward and attack ("Mister, this is a fight; you shouldn't let your guard down"); [[spoiler:and he tries to intervene in female Giriko's "girls only" fight by partially transforming half his body and kicking her away from Maka]].
* CoolBike: Soul owns a motorcycle and it will often serve as urban transport for him and his meister.
* CulturalRebel: A fairly minor example, but it's still present. Soul fashions himself a "cool guy" and has the attitude and wardrobe to show for it. He's also a skilled pianist and afraid of socializing with others, two particular traits dissociated with "cool guys". He's still super cool.
* DeadpanSnarker: He never misses the opportunity to snark at the situation.
* DealWithTheDevil: Happens when he gets infected by the Black Blood, which manifests itself as a devil in his head that offers him power in exchange for his sanity. [[spoiler:Maka and Soul eventually give in to this so that they can defeat Crona and just barely regain their sanity]].
* DeathGlare: Because of his naturally red eyes and droopy appearance, he can give off one hell of a death glare.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: The series is as much Soul's story as it is Maka's.
* EmbarrassingLastName: Bringing up Soul's real last name "Evans" tends to make him unhappy. [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope This isn't because he's ashamed of the name]], rather he's ashamed of ''himself'' for supposedly not living up to his family's musical talent.]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Has a particularly awesome one when he expertly tricks Blair into a trap in the first episode of the anime.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble:
** Phlegmatic. Introverted, very loyal, compassionate, aloof.
** Soul could also be Leukine, given his generally cool attitude and indifference towards things, yet possesses a great sense of bravery and an occasional temper.
* GreenEyedMonster: [[spoiler:The Envy Chapter shows that Soul, despite all he has accomplished as a weapon, still envies his brother Wes' superior musical talent]].
* HeroicWillpower: [[spoiler:He get his chest chainsawed and still gets back up.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Black☆Star.
* HiddenDepths:
** He appears mostly composed, has a desire to be cool, has a fierce loyalty to his meister and wants to become a great Death Scythe. [[spoiler:On the inside, he's extremely antisocial, thinks he is inferior in his talents and abilities (which all subconsciously restrains him from unleashing greater power) and there's only one person he trusts enough that gives him the courage to face it all.]]
** He's also far more calculating than his laid back, sometimes goofy, cool guy personality suggests. In the first chapter alone he tricks Blair, Maka and even some first-time readers into believing he's sleazy enough to betray his Meister for a pretty girl only to use it as an opportunity to get close enough to allow he and Maka to launch an unavoidable attack.
--->'''Soul:''' (in response to Maka's [[invoked]][[TearJerker pained demand to know why men cheat on their partners]]) Heh, how am I supposed to know, I can't answer that. [[WhamShot (partially transforms into a scythe, trapping Blair)]] After all, [[WhamLine Cool men don't cheat on their partners, do they?]]
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: He willingly chooses to be called "Eater" [[spoiler:due to his insecurity about his musical talent and thus fear of shaming the Evans' family name]], but "Soul" really is his first name.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's ribbed Maka on several occasions for being unattractive (thought he apparently ceases this altogether after the Salvage arc), but still considers her the best partner. The "jerk" part is taken up to eleven in the drama CD, where his belittling Maka for lack of sex appeal actual makes her upset.
* TheLancer: He tends to do things his way rather than his partner Maka's way when the series starts.
* LandingInSomeonesBathtub: He ended up landing in Blair's bubble bath when he jumped through the window of her house.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMkMWAiRnfE "So Scandalous"]].
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: Despite their constant casual arguments, Soul and Maka have a lot of trust in each other, they understand each other very well and they mean the world to each other.
* LivingRelic: [[spoiler:With the DWMA's alliance with witches marking the start of a new era, Soul wins the honor of being the very last Death Scythe to be ever made. 700 years of using witch souls to turn demon weapons into Death Scythes ends with him.]]
* MeaningfulName:
** He's Soul Eater. [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin He eats souls]].
** Might be named after Bill Evans, a prominent 20th century jazz pianist.
** [[spoiler:His title of "The Last Death Scythe"]].
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: His most notorious trait are his shark-like teeth.
* MrFanservice: Has just as many as fangirls as Kid, if not ''more.''
* MusicalAssassin: He's capable of weaponizing his piano playing by having his comrades synchronize themselves to his tune and launch combo attacks. [[spoiler:His Manga Kishin Hunter form adds a set of piano keys to his blade that Maka can use as soul wavelength-based weapon]].
* MysticalWhiteHair: A white-haired boy who has the ability to turn into a weapon.
* {{Nosebleed}}: Whenever [[MsFanservice Blair's]] around. Maka does ''not'' approve.
* NounVerber: His name. Soul ''Eater''.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: At the DWMA he chose to go by the name "Soul Eater", his legal name being Soul Evans.
* OppositesAttract: He's arrogant, snarky, careless and laid back, whereas his partner Maka is smart, kind, responsible, and strong willed. At their core, its the fact they both struggle with feeling useful that connects them, as they both can empathize with each other.
* ThePowerOfFriendship:
** With Maka, of course, given the premise of Soul Resonance.
** Spoofed with him and Black Star. Despite getting along great (most of the time), [[InvokedTrope they figure this will help them]] overcome Death the Kid in the fight [=Black*Star=] picks on Death's first day of school. Not only can't [=Black*Star=] wield Soul worth a crap, Death completely dominates them in the fight.
* PowerGivesYouWings: [[spoiler:Gains the ability to fly when he becomes a Death Scythe.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Averted, the only thing that his red eyes really highlight is that he's a supernatural being, at least by our standards. In the ''Soul Eater'' world there are quite a few people like him.
* RedOniBlueOni: Zigzagged with Maka. Soul initially takes a brash, impulsive outlook towards life, while Maka assesses situations with logic and reason. Later on, Soul becomes much more stoic while Maka in turn becomes more headstrong.
* RenaissanceMan: Soul can expertly play the piano, is an excellent fighter, a good combat strategist, and is widely considered to be one of the most skilled weapons on the Academy's campus.
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:After a period where it seems the SuperpoweredEvilSide held no danger, this one is back when he gets near the orbs of black blood containing Tsar Pushka and his meister.]]
* SarcasticDevotee: To Maka, whom he both has been known to mock and give his life to.
* ScarsAreForever: After getting this, he becomes shirtless in weapon form.
* ShapeshifterWeapon: Like every "weapon" in the show, he can go back from his human form to his weapon one, as well as doing partial transformations.
* SharpDressedMan: Soul looks really good in a black pin-striped suit.
* ShirtlessScene: During the exam episode, and [[OutOfClothesExperience sometimes when in weapon form]].
* SinisterScythe: His weapon form.
* SlasherSmile: A rare heroic example, but it's more from his teeth being inexplicably jagged than anything else.
* StageName: Uses the Academy's naming privileges to go by "Soul Eater" instead of "Soul Evans."
* TheStoic: Soul is a boy of (sometimes) few words and fewer emotions.
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: The Black Blood grants him increased strength but eats away at his sanity, as symbolized by the demon in his mind.
* SwordBeam: Can do this.
* TalkingWeapon: He can chatter quite easily when in weapon form.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A, as promptly demonstrated on the drama [=CDs=]. He first pushes away and insults Maka, then [[LuminescentBlush nearly has a heart attack and talks about how cute he thinks she is]] when she's not around. Of course, [[spoiler:he's under a spell]].
* UndyingLoyalty: To Maka, for whom he would readily give his life.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Despite being good friends and roommates with Maka, they often trade jabs with one another.
* WeakButSkilled: Compared to the two other protagonist groups, he's a lot less powerful: He doesn't have Tsubaki's flexibility and powerful abilities like the Shadow Sword nor the raw power of the Thompson sisters, and his meister isn't as powerful either. However, he does possess a lot of skill, a certain attitude and interesting abilities like playing music with his soul that allows for a much greater performance than his otherwise lackluster abilities would suggest. [[spoiler:Gaining Black Blood gives him and Maka an extra boost but for most of the series its a DeadlyUpgrade, and only truly comes into its own during the finale]].
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: The black blood makes him physically stronger but deteriorates his mental state.

!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YumikoKobayashi (Japanese, anime and CD dramas), Creator/BrittneyKarbowski (English), Creator/MonicaBertolotti (Italian)

A loud-mouthed ninja who doesn't seem to grasp [[HighlyVisibleNinja the concept]] [[WithCatlikeTread of stealth]], Black☆Star is a perpetual show-off whose stated goal in life is to surpass God. He is Tsubaki's meister. He is largely the AntiHero of the three main characters.
-----
* TheAce: Frequently lampshaded. The only thing that holds him back from succeeding in every mission is his own need to show off. Later, even Kid admits he has been surpassed.
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Much of what he can do comes from the fact that he literally refuses to accept he can't. Stein even trains him with this in mind.
* AlmightyJanitor: After the Book of Eibon arc, Death the Kid hails Black☆Star as the strongest meister in DWMA, and yet Black☆Star is far from promoting Tsubaki to a Death Scythe or be recognized by the masses that he indeed is the strongest.
* AmbitionIsEvil: Played with. His ambitious desire to surpass the gods originally set him on the path towards becoming a Kishin. This trait has been remarked upon by more than one character, but he instead changes his ambition towards helping allies instead of for personal glory.
* AntiHero: It's worth noting that his most heroic trait is being nice to his Weapon and his friends whom he holds dear to. If he'd had a different upbringing, he'd probably be much, much worse.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: {{Deconstructed}}. Black Star has amazing skills and power that surpasses all but the most powerful of warriors, monsters, and gods, but his arrogant nature in thinking he's better than anyone and anything that gets in his way, including those that surpass him in power, has led him to make rash decisions and not be well-liked among his allies. Even Tsubaki has a hard time dealing with Black Star's attitude at times. Much of his Character Development involves giving him a large lesson in humility.
* AttentionWhore: At the start of the series, he tries to kill Kid just because he was getting more attention than him. [[spoiler:He eventually grows out of it, especially in the manga.]]
* BadassBoast: Gets an epic one in the manga during the fight with Asura. When the latter compares his prowess to that of a warrior god, Black☆Star gives this gem:
-->'''Black☆Star:''' Who decided that humans are weaker than gods?
* BerserkButton: When Mifune calls him a little kid and making it sound like he was calling him weak Black☆Star's face perks up and his eyes widened and change color he ultimately declares that he is not a weakling and defeats Mifune with a brutal blow to the back.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Black☆Star is something of a joker, especially when he and Soul are together. Nonetheless, even without his partner he has an extremely high fighting capability both unarmed and with regular weapons. Also, like Stein, he is able to deal massive damage by enhancing his unarmed strikes with his soul wavelength.
* BeyondTheImpossible: Manages this is comical levels since he can take attacks from gods and overcome nearly any physical limit of the human body. Made even more egregious in the Manga where he EATS Asura's Vajra laser beam instead of dodging it. He simply vomits the beam and is totally fine afterwards, apart from a little blood from the mouth. Later on HE EVEN POPPED HIS SPINE BACK INTO PLACE! By the epilogue, he's learning how to fly from sheer force of will!
* BigBrotherInstinct: Is best shown with Tsubaki as he protects her. Black☆Star can be this with all of his other friends to despite being immature.
* BigEater: The gluttony chapter shows this best.
* BigEgoHiddenDepths:
** Black☆Star is ill-tempered, arrogant, and often acts like a dumb-as-a-rock idiot, but he is surprisingly kindhearted and far more intelligent than most people give him credit for.
** Lampshaded by Tsubaki in Season 3; she states that Black☆Star studies hard for every test even though he winds up failing them in the long run.
** Due to his sheer physical strength and speed, he can be pretty useful in a battle once he manages to focus on the task at hand.
* TheBigGuy: He does use force a lot and his ego ''is'' big...
* BlasphemousBoast: Always claims he will surpass God; sometimes he even says he has already.
* BoisterousBruiser: As Boisterous as it gets.
* BookDumb: Poor kid's just no good at academics, effort notwithstanding.
* BornWinner: The cast even lampshades this.
* BrilliantButLazy: In a manner of speaking, Black☆Star is an excellent fighter and much smarter than people know. However, he'd rather be a loud boasting fool then a completely serious guy.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "I am the man who will surpass God!" and "YAH-HOO!"
* CharacterDevelopment:
** Especially in the manga. He starts off as an arrogant son of a bitch who mostly cares about himself. He later comes to learn how to respect others and manages to lose a lot of his arrogance.
** He also learns to be a lot less impulsive and opportunistic, becoming more level-headed to a degree.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: He's a baseline human who, by a combination of HeroicWillpower and training like a motherfucker, can tank attacks from full-fledged deities and move so fast there appear to be five of him at once.
* ChallengeSeeker: It's how he gained his muscles, agility, and solid reputation.
* ChewingTheScenery: Any damage to the scenery is probably the result of Black☆Star chewing on it.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Maka. They were raised together and were friends since 5, her thinking of him as cool.
* CompetitionFreak: Particularly if someone else is getting more attention than he.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: When Black☆Star actually shuts up, he's able to fight well.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Tsubaki is the Shadow Weapon (Demon Blade, Yoto, Dark Arm... whichever you prefer), which means Black☆Star can manipulate and use her shadow techniques by proxy. Also, pre-Spartoi and in some cases after, he wears dark clothing. Nevertheless, he's a heroic character, or at least becomes one.
* DeadlyUpgrade: Tsubaki's Uncanny Sword mode, and the Shadow☆Star attack that goes with it.
* DelusionsOfGrandeur: He starts out as a {{Narcissist}} with a ''lot'' of unearned confidence, boasting about how easy everything comes to him despite being such a poor student. After a while he mellows out.
* {{Determinator}} Black☆Star is determined no matter what the costs he will become more powerful than the gods themselves.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: He and Kid share this role, with Maka being TheProtagonist.
%%* DramaticHighPerching: He loves this one. Once being so high up that nobody could hear him.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: When going over, he has his pupils replaced by white stars which can overtake the iris.
* {{Expy}}: Freaking ''Manga/{{Naruto}}''. The similar personality, back story, power up-grades etc. It's also been suggested that Black☆Star is meant to be an exaggerated deconstruction of the same character-type, but if you compare Black☆Star with the [[CharacterDevelopment current Naruto]], you'd probably cock your head to the side.
* FatalFlaw: [[{{Pride}} Arrogance and Pride]]. He is supremely confident in his abilities and looks down on the use of stealth or dirty tactics, not because he thinks these things are dishonorable or anything like that, but because he thinks he doesn't need them. [[LeeroyJenkins He even eschews the use of basic tactics in favor of charging at enemies that are often much more powerful than he is]], and it's almost gotten him killed several times.
* FearlessFool: He's the man who will surpass God! Of course he's not afraid of anything! It's a good thing Tsubaki is around to keep him out of trouble.
* {{Foil}}: The humble, shaggy Mifune and the vain, flashily-dressed Black*Star.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Sanguine. Extroverted, loud, somewhat ill-witted, friendly.
* GodhoodSeeker: His main motivation is to surpass God, but while fighting [[spoiler:the Kishin]], he claims that despite his immense power he is still [[PunyHumans just a human]].
* AGodIAmNot: When he receives a compliment from ASURA that he could probably take the label of "Bushin" as a warriror god, Black☆Star refuses because he doesn't want being a god as a label, he aims to be STRONGER than the gods.
* GoodIsNotNice: Quite a jerk in the beginning, even though he's working for the good guys, but through a series of major ass-kickings and character development, he's gotten better.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: At times, making [[BadassNormal him almost unique among meisters]].
* GroinAttack: Angela Leon, as you would say, "Got you right in the balls!"
* HardHead: He falls thousands of feet head first and it doesn't faze him.
* HasAType: He [[BuxomBeautyStandard prefers women with large breasts]]. [[spoiler:When the Lust chapter in the Book of Eibon turned everyone into the kind of person they would sexually lust after, Black☆Star mostly looked like himself, but with a very well endowed chest.]]
* HeroicBSOD: Not as bad as some, [[spoiler:but Black Star progressively loses his edge after his losses to Mifune and Mosquito in the battle for BREW. When the spirit of the Nakatsukasa confronts him with the souls lost to Masamune, warning that he's on the verge of the same demon path, he's brought to his knees. It's for mere seconds, but considering it's Black Star, it's a huge deal.]]
* HellishPupils: His pupils turn gold and star-shaped later on. [[spoiler:Later on they get much bigger and turn blue.]]
* HeroWithBadPublicity: While it doesn't come up much, Black☆Star has an awful reputation thanks to the fact that he's the last member of a family full of thugs and assassins. However, the story makes a point of noting that for the most part he doesn't really ''care'', though his arrogance is no doubt partially rooted in an attempt to gain recognition.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Him and his best friend and fellow comrade Soul.
* HighlyVisibleNinja: He has done training in usage of stealth, but his hamminess always leads to him blowing his cover.
* HighPressureBlood: That may spray out even through his ''hair''.
* HotBlooded:
** "I AM THE STAR!!!!!"
** "I'M BLACK☆STAR!!!!"
* IdiotHero: He's so idiotic that a Great Old One's attempt to BreakThemByTalking about his goals and how [[AndThenWhat has no plans for what he do when he gets the power he strives for]], doesn't phase him. He resists being driven insane because he's TOO STUPID. But to call him a hero in the first place is a bit of a stretch, considering his jerkass personality and that his main goal is just to prove he's stronger than everyone else.
* InsistentTerminology: The ☆ in his name, all mentions (''all'') to him in the manga has the star on it. Scanlators or other circles may excuse themselves with an asterisk sometimes, but in the original publication the ☆ will always be there.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Particularly with respect to how he treats Tsubaki; he is willing to get beat over the head for almost an hour by three people to keep her safe, and genuinely cares about her well being.
* KiManipulation: Uses his wavelength as a weapon by channelling it through palm strikes, causing agonizing internal damage.
* LargeHam: Bombastic and loud enough for the heavens to hear, Black Star ladies and gentlemen.
* LastOfHisKind: The last living member of the Star Clan. [[spoiler:In ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'' we find out that the techniques of the clan were taught to various dojos (knowledge of which can somehow even give practitioners the same kind of eyes), but Black Star is still the only member of the clan itself.]]
* LastDisrespects: He knows the DWMA slaughtered his entire clan and family but doesn’t care since his family were a bunch of Mass Murderers for Hire and thinks they got what they deserved.
* LeeroyJenkins: Tsubaki keeps trying to tell him to plan out his assassinations first, but he just keeps charging in screaming at the top of his lungs.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6CDOG5TjNw "Never Lose Myself" ]].
* LightningBruiser: After his training, the first thing we see him do is running superfast through a forest and plowing clean through any trees in his path by running into them.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: His relationship with Tsubaki. They are like a sweet older sister and her annoying little brother.
* LuckyCharmsTitle: It's anyone's guess WHY the guy has a star in his name, but he consistently does all through the Japanese manga.
* MadeOfIron: Just look at what Kid had to do to him just to make him ''stay down''. Oh, and he's up and running again in a few hours.
** Goes to ridiculous heights in the final battle, when he EATS Asura's Vajra laser instead of dodging it. He's totally fine, apart from a little BloodFromTheMouth.
** HE EVEN POPPED HIS SPINE BACK INTO PLACE!
* MonochromaticEyes: When he activates his SuperMode his eyes turn from turquoise to gold and a star as the pupil.
* MultiMeleeMaster: He is partnered with Tsubaki after all.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:When he and the other characters were trying to stop Asura's resurrection, Black☆Star was the only one immune to Asura's hallucinations, making him the only one who could do anything...until he called on his sixth sense, which allowed the hallucinations to get to him and cause him to accidentally ''help'' with the resurrection.]]
* {{Ninja}}: Black☆Star is naturally this because he comes from a clan of Assassins known as the Star Clan.
* NoIndoorVoice: Always bawling about something.
* {{Nosebleed}}: Whenever he's spying on Tsubaki in the bath. [[spoiler:This becomes HilariousInHindsight when the Lust chapter reveals that ''Tsubaki'' is much more perverted than he is]].
* OddFriendship: With Maka. They have been shown to see each other as good friends and spend a lot of time hanging out, even though they have completely opposite personalities, goals, and morals. Would explain why she asked him to punch her and his rage at the ones who hurt her.
%%* OnlyOneName
* OpenTheIris: Averted, similar to Maka, his normally invisible pupils becoming visible when emotionally shocked or angered.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: A twelve year old boy that can achieve the power of a [[WarGod WARRIOR GOD!!!!]]
* PlatonicLifePartners: Tsubaki is one of Black☆Star's closest friends along with Soul. She will always stand by his side no matter what.
* PowerStereotypeFlip: Black Star is a loud BoisterousBruiser who is constantly handing people autographs they don't want. He's also a trained assassin whose soul resonance powers involve manipulating shadows and darkness, makes extensive use of ChainPain, and has demonic imagery associated with his ultimate attack.
* ProgressivelyPrettier: When he goes through phases of character development in the manga, Black☆Star keeps getting artistic face lifts, going away from his initial bratty appearance.
* RedOniBlueOni: The boisterous, hot blooded red oni to Tsubaki's reserved, collected blue oni. But just to be clear Black☆Star is red oni to everybody.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: His [[spoiler:Shadow☆Star Zero Kata Masamune]] and later after he joins Spartoi.
* ScarsAreForever:
** [[spoiler:His star tattoo is bisected by a scar after his final battle with Mifune in the manga, indicative of his character development, along with one that vertically crosses his right eye ([[EyesAreUnbreakable despite said eye being undamaged]]).]]
** [[spoiler:The final battle with Asura]] gives him another: one across the bridge of his nose from left eyebrow to right cheek.
* ScreamingWarrior: [[spoiler:So much that he could counter Crona's [[MakeMeWannaShout Scream Resonance]] by ''shouting''.]]
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: When Dr. Stein catches him trying to steal the answers for a big test.
* ShounenHair: He has spiky hair with the spikes sticking in out in the manner similar to that of a star.
* SleevesAreForWimps: He wears a shirt without sleeves to show off his upper arms and look tougher.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Though eventually his strength starts to match his massive ego.
* SuperStrength: With almighty attacks that have enough strength to [[WorldsStrongestMan become the most powerful Meister in the his universe.]]
* SuperSenses: So super that he is immune to hallucinations.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: He's noticeably shorter than his partner Tsubaki.
* TooDumbToFool:
** He proudly proclaims that his sixth sense is so bad that he's unaffected by Asura's hallucinations. [[spoiler:He was wrong]].
** Played straight with a Great Old One's HannibalLecture and insanity, which doesn't phase him because he's such an idiot that neither of them phase him.
* UnfortunateName: Though not immediately obvious in English, Black Star when written in kanji can be read as "darkness of the world". Not the most helpful name when you're trying to distance yourself from the past actions of your murderous clansmen. Mifune [[LampshadeHanging lampshades it]] in episode 47:
--> '''Mifune''': Black Star...A world of darkness...One who takes away people's hopes and lives in darkness...
* UnskilledButStrong: Of the protagonists, he's got the most raw power of anyone, to the point where he's often stated to be the strongest out of his class, which says a lot given that Kidd is the son of ''Lord Death''. However, while he does train, he's often more focused on showboating rather than refining himself, meaning he often loses to enemies weaker than him because he can't handle their skills or his own. More than the other two, he is reliant on his physical prowess to carry him through, as he lacks the ability to fly or any superhuman senses. In short, Black Star is brutishly strong and lightning fast, but lacks finesse and versatility.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: [[spoiler:Literally and without him losing his mind.]]
* TheWorfEffect: He beats Mifune ([[WorfHadTheFlu though Mifune was holding back because he didn't want to kill him]]) in his first appearance and takes down Sid, but is [[CurbStompBattle utterly overpowered by Stein]], bested by Death the Kid and the Thompson sisters (only winning because Soul inadvertently triggered Kid's ObsessivelyOrganized tendencies ), needs help to take down Free, [[SingleStrokeBattle is one-shotted by Asura during his awakening]], [[CurbStompBattle utterly humiliated by Mifune during their rematch]], failed to complete his objective during the battle with Mosquito, and bested by Death the Kid ''again'' when they fight one on one. The last three even induce a minor HeroicBSOD. Later in the anime after recovering from his HeroicBSOD, he fights [[spoiler:Asura]], but again loses.
* WorldsBestWarrior: Black☇Star has this whole motive as he aims extremely higher to transcend gods and become the most powerful warrior ever.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Has effectively become this by the end of the manga, and even corrects Asura when he declares him to be a [[WarGod bushin]] that he's a human who's transcended godhood.
* WouldHitAGirl: [[HitMeDammit Maka asks him to hit her]]. He does. In the face.
* {{Yandere}}: During the [[spoiler:episode in which he and Mifune face off once again]], Black Star is this for Maka but not in a romantic sense. He's simply blinded by rage for [[spoiler:Giriko and Arachne damaging Maka's back.]]
%%* YourOtherLeft: Has this problem in the anime.

Black☆Star's agreeable and level-headed Dark Demon Blade partner. She can change into multiple ninja weapons (shuriken, smoke bomb, a katana, etc).
-----
* ActionGirl: Easily the most kick ass of the female weapons.
* BadassAdorable: Tsubaki is a competent partner and weapon, but her friendly nature and kindness as well as being the OnlySaneWoman at times, makes her very cute.
* BathingBeauty: Time delay before her first bath? One episode.
%%* {{BFS}}
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's usually kind and humble. Thus, when she finally and truly stands up for herself in the fight against her brother, the result was pure awesome.
* BlackSwordsAreBetter: Her Uncanny Sword mode has a black blade.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has a well-endowed figure, which is why Black Star's often lusts after her. Just the sight of her ToplessnessFromTheBack and a hint of {{Sideboob}} is enough to cause him to NoseBleed.
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to Masamune's Cain. She had to stab her evil older brother to death and ate his soul.
* CastingAShadow: Her Uncanny Sword mode's Shadow☆Star attack turns Black☆Star's shadow into tendrils that can snare the enemy. [[spoiler:Later on, after they master the Uncanny Sword, this becomes a Shadow☆Star fighting style with a variety of shadow-based abilities. These include a blade literally chained to Black☆Star's shadow, wrapping Black☆Star's fist in shadows to improve his power, splitting off Black☆Star's shadow into after-images with traces of matter, morphing Tsubaki into a dopplegänger of Black☆Star by using his shadow, and transforming Black☆Star's shadow into a scarf that can cut like a sword]].
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: She keeps Black☆Star's eccentricities in check most of the time and often has to apologize on his behalf when he causes too much trouble.
* CoolBigSis: She acts like a supporting and patient older sister figure for Black☆Star.
* CovertPervert: While in the Book of Eibon, everyone has their gender changed for a duration proportional to their amount of personal lust, and she ends up staying that way longer than anyone apart from Blair, who is entirely unconcerned.
* DoWrongRight: In her introductory chapter/episode alongside Black☆Star, she throws a shuriken at Black☆Star's head when he tries to peep on her while she's bathing. She's not angry at him for trying to be a peeping tom, but for doing a [[HighlyVisibleNinja terrible job at being stealthy]].
* {{Expy}}: Design-wise she bears a close resemblance to [[Franchise/StreetFighter Ibuki]].
* ExtremeDoormat: A lot of her character and issues revolve around her being this. Her entire relationship with Black Star and her own family is based on her own kind but heavily submissive personality, requiring a dominant figure to take the lead. This lampshaded by her brother in additon to her own tendency to follow Black Star's lead in battle for better or worse, which ends badly if her meister is acting considerably brash or stupid at the time but works in her favor in being decisive.
-->''I'll admit Black Star makes some dumb calls from time to time, but the important thing is I'm here to back him up no matter how big a fool he is. If we're fools, we're fools together. That's the kind of team we are.''
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her standard outfit has a slit up one leg, one thigh-high black stocking, uneven belts, and a star on her right breast.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Phlegmatic. Compassionate, supportive, submissive, [[spoiler:and horny, as it turns out.]]
* TheHeart: The reason she can support Black☆Star so well is because she has a supportive and kind personality.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Tsubaki is pretty much like Black☆Star's older sister, while Black☆Star is the irritating little kid Tsubaki adores and detests at the same time.
* MorphWeapon: Can turn into StockNinjaWeaponry, including a FuumaShuriken, a [[SmokeOut smoke bomb]] and [[KatanasAreJustBetter a katana.]] Turns out to be a hereditary power of her "clan", to be able to turn into various ninja weapons.
* MsFanservice: Tsubaki is the most curvaceous of the main girls, and it is thusly shown several times. Case en point: in her debut episode, she has two [[BathtubScene bathing scenes]] wherein she is just ''barely'' covered.
* NiceGirl: Surprisingly, especially on who she's partnered with. Though it's been said that because she is such a nice person that she can tolerate having Black Star as a partner.
* {{Ninja}}: Although she serves as the weapon as opposed to the weapon-user, Tsubaki fits into this moreso than Black Star, being Japanese, dark-haired, skilled in stealth, and her two main weapon forms are a kasurigama and a katana.
* NotSoAboveItAll: The Book of Eibon mission revealed that Tsubaki is the most perverted out of the group, narrowly beating Liz. This certainly makes her interactions with Black Star interesting. Especially when he peeped on her while bathing. Though whenever [[PervertRevengeMode she did hit him]], she says it's for getting hard and [[SkewedPriorities not being stealthy enough]]...
* OnlySaneWoman: She's the oldest and most mature member of the cast, having a level-headed personality and often acting as a mediator between conflicts on keeping others from making foolish choices.
* OneHeadTaller: She's about a head taller than her partner Black Star, and is overall the tallest of the main cast.
* PervertRevengeMode: PlayedWith. She's leveled headed but she did kick Black☆Star's butt for getting [[ThePeepingTom caught peeping on her]] and the others girls at the bathhouse. But [[CovertPervert she did not mind the peeping itself]], as much as the fact he [[SkewedPriorities was doing a terrible job of being stealthy]].
* PowerCopying: After defeating her brother and taking his soul, she gains the power to turn into a soul-sucking "Uncanny Sword", same as him. It's [[DeadlyUpgrade rather difficult]] for Black☆Star to use it at first. [[spoiler:Following Mifune's defeat, she and Black Star begin using a technique similar to the former's Infinite Sword and Disorderly line styles.]]
* PrehensileHair: Her usual compromise in order to use her powers while retaining maximum human form.
* ShrinkingViolet: A mild example, but early on, it's been hinted at her lack of confidence in herself, especially with her name referencing a 'scentless' flower, indicating of her being in the background. She shrugs this off thanks to her meister's confidence.
* SilkHidingSteel: She's possibly the nicest character in the series. Then there's her fight with her brother.
* SlipknotPonytail: When using the Uncanny Sword, Tsubaki's hair falls loose from its ponytail.
* StatuesqueStunner: Very beautiful and a lot taller than most of the main characters, particularly her partner, Black*Star.
* TheStraightMan: Plays this Black☆Star. HilarityEnsues.
* SwissArmyWeapon: Most Weapons can transform into only one weapon. Tsubaki can transform into at least ''five''.
* TalkingWeapon: Like all other Weapons, Tsubaki is capable of speaking to her partner even while in her weapon form.
* TeamMom: The most level-headed and emotionally mature of the students. She's always there to give motherly support to her friends, especially Black☆Star.
* TechnicolorEyes: Tsubaki's eyes are a dark purple, unlike her brother Masamune. This difference is doubly highlighted in that Tsubaki is the one who inherits the family trait of having multiple Weapon forms instead of her older sibling.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: Tsubaki is noticeably taller than her meister Black☆Star.
* YamatoNadeshiko: You'd have to be, to deal with Black☆Star on a daily basis. She also looks the part, especially in flashbacks where she wears a yukata.

!!Death the Kid
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MamoruMiyano (Japanese), Creator/TakakoHonda (Japanese - CD dramas), Creator/ToddHaberkorn (English), Emiliano Coltorti (Italian)
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/73929.jpg]]
Son of the Grim Reaper and meister to Liz and Patty. He is a very gifted meister whose only flaw is his crippling OCD, which manifests as an obsessive need to have everything be symmetrical. Hence, his naturally asymmetrical hairstyle is a source of great angst for him.
-----
* AintTooProudToBeg: [[spoiler:Gets on his hands and knees and begs the witches' council to aid the DWMA in destroying Asura, right after reminding them that he can kill every one of them without any trouble.]]
* AlmightyJanitor: Perhaps the only one of the three main teams to still count as this. [[spoiler:Black☆Star and Maka are promoted to two-star students whereas Kid, thanks to having been kidnapped by a magician, is still where he started]]. Though for him it always has been more of a technicality, since being Death's family trumps his status as a one-star Meister. Of course, he eventually outgrows this when [[spoiler:he becomes the new Grim Reaper]].
* ArtificialHuman: [[spoiler:Kid is more accurately the AnthropomorphicPersonfication of Death's "order", being his second attempt at creating a child after Asura. As such, he doesn't have a mother, nor was he traditionally "born". The StealthPrequel ''Manga/FireForce'' actually established that when Kid was created, he already looked like a toddler and was wearing his signature suit.]]
* AwesomeMomentOfCrowning: [[spoiler:In the final chapter, where is crowned as the new Grim Reaper in wake of his father's death]].
* BadassBookworm: While not as intelligent as the book-addicted Maka, he has an extremely cunning and deductive intellect. Episodes involving him likely contain portions of investigation as well as him going over the lore of the creature he's hunting.
* BadassInDistress: [[spoiler:After Noah sucks him into Eibon's book in the manga.]]
* BadassInANiceSuit: Kicking ass or not, he's always dressed sharp.
* BeatItByCompulsion: The easiest way to take him down.
* BerserkButton:
** If Kid cannot fix something asymmetrical, he will blow it up.
** Insulting his father is a bad move.
** Mentioning his brother [[spoiler:Asura]] is an equally bad idea.
** In his debut appearance, he punts a cute creature across the hall as soon as he found out it had one more eyelash on one side than the other, and later destroys the MonsterOfTheWeek, pyramid and all, because of how ugly his OneWingedAngel form was.
** Believing absolute power is the solution to fear will set him off like nothing else. Crona decided to battle philosophies with Kid and got absolutely destroyed for his troubles.
* {{BFG}}: He gains one when he merges the Thompson sisters together to form the Death Cannon.
* BlackCloak: Wears one along with a skull mask on certain missions, making him look just like [[{{Shinigami}} his]] [[TheGrimReaper father]] from certain angles. [[spoiler:Gains a natural one upon achieving his full Reaper form.]]
* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:The Abel to Asura's Cain.]]
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Kichiri kachiri", which could be translated as "precise and perfect". In the English dub, it's "absolutely perfect".
* CharacterDevelopment: He starts off as a dismissive and aloof ControlFreak who hates any asymmetry, is obsessed over his ideals, lives in doubt about his worth as his father’s successor, and refuses any aid besides his Weapons. In the manga he undergoes a BreakingSpeech about how his ideals are incompatible with reality and [[spoiler:becomes an OmnicidalManiac to make the world a symmetrical clean slate]], but with help from his friends he learns to trust others more, talk about and process his fears, and become a friendly Reaper who respects humanity.
* CoolBoard: A skateboard he can summon at will and even fly.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He's a Shinigami who dresses in all black but he's one of the heroes. [[spoiler:His insanity powerup also qualifies.]]
* DeadGuyJunior: A variant. [[spoiler:The end of ''Characters/FireForce'' reveals his father based his appearance on that story's now long dead protagonist, Shinra, in hopes Kid would live up to Shinra's legacy. And since Shinra was the one who ''created'' Death, Kid is technically Shinra's IdenticalGrandson too.]]
* DefenseMechanismSuperpower: The first time Kid's Sanzu Lines are shown to be significant is when their activation saves him from being killed by Mosquito.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Shares this role with Black Star as said before, whilst Maka is TheProtagonist.
* DrunkWithPower: [[spoiler:Right after he obtains his new insanity powerup from the "G.O.O.", he decides to use it to destroy everything in order to selfishly satisfy his own sense of "aesthetics" (aka the "ultimate symmetry"). Black Star thankfully manages to knock him back to his senses.]]
** Averted when [[spoiler:he ascends, and realizes that his father and now him have the "madness of order" which could turn all of humanity into mindless puppets to counter the Kishin's madness. He refuses to use it, citing his faith in humanity.]]
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: When he gets serious, he looks downright creepy.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: He has a circle parallel to the iris. Upon [[spoiler:reaching his true Grim Reaper form]], his irises turn into skulls.
* FashionableAsymmetry: His hair, except he doesn't seem too convinced about the "fashionable" part and is unable to adjust it. [[spoiler:He loses this entirely after all of his Sanzu Lines join upon reaching his full Reaper form.]]
* FatalFlaw: His obsession with symmetry keeps him from winning fights he would otherwise have no problem with.
* FlashStep: One of his abilities is incredible speed, which he uses against both Crona and Black Star in this fashion.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Melancholic. Highly organized, infected with OCD, refined.
* GangstaStyle: Kid [[ImprobableUseOfAWeapon grips his guns upside-down]].
* GentlemanSnarker: Kid is definitely this; especially apparent during his fight with Soul and Black Star.
* AGodIAmNot: While he occasionally states he is a god as a matter of fact, it is [[spoiler:his attachment to and understanding of humans (and others, he reaches an [[EnemyMine arrangement]] with the Witch Queen) which allows him to become a 'true' Reaper.]]
* TheGrimReaper: Well, the Grim Reaper's son, [[spoiler:but he becomes one himself eventually]].
* GunFu: Sometimes uses his weapons to block combat attacks.
* GunsAkimbo: His primary weapons are a pair of pistols. Given his obsession with symmetry, he literally [[JustifiedTrope will not fire]] unless he is wielding both guns.
* TheGunslinger: Kid's Weapon (well, Weapon''s'') is a pair of pistols courtesy of Liz and Patty. His signature style is shooting them upside-down with his pinkies, but that doesn't stop him from being quite a sharpshooter. He also spins them quite often.
* HellishPupils: [[spoiler:After ascending to full-Reaper status, his pupils become shaped like Reaper masks.]]
* HeroicBSOD: PlayedForLaughs whenever he does something unsymmetrical. [[spoiler:Played straight in the manga; while he's trapped in the Book of Eibon, Kid goes insane and harbors an apocalyptic grudge to destroy everything so the world can finally be symmetrical. He gets better.]]
* HoverBoard: He uses one for long-distance travel and doing cool tricks.
* HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:Described as a "Fragment of the Madness of Law" by G.O.O., which explains his OCD which is often derided as a medical form of madness.]]
* IdiotHero: A heroic character who believes in fighting for good, but his OCD over symmetry while trying to be heroic certainly makes him this way. That being said, when he's on his game, he's unstoppable.
* InconsistentSpelling: Some earlier translations added an extra "d" to his name. It's been confirmed that there's only one.
* {{Irony}}: Extremely obsessed with symmetry, and yes his hair has several giant white stripes only on one side. Try explaining that why don't you.
* KidDetective: No pun intended. There are many times where he decides to carry out investigations that he keeps secret from everyone, including Liz, Patty, and even his father.
* LetsGetDangerous: If he's not having a fit over something asymmetrical, he's too pissed to care, or rather because his target is asymmetrical.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRqZe0xPnoY "So Crazy"]].
* MeaningfulName: It certainly makes sense someone named Death the Kid would use a pair of cowgirls for gun-slinging.
* MiseryTrigger: Telling Kid that he isn't symmetrical by pointing out the lines in his hair will have him crying and wishing himself dead.
* MrViceGuy: His obsession with order prevents him from being the true OnlySaneMan of the group; at his best, it's up to eleven.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Not in general, but it's one of the first things to go out the window when he's obsessing over something: his first appearance has him offhandedly grabbing Liz and Patty's breasts to see that they're still different sized, he tried to get Kim and Jackie to finishing bathing faster by walking in on them and helping them out, and his one appearance in ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'' so far has him bringing his face extremely close to Tsugumi's for the sake of evening out her hair.
* NotSoAboveItAll: He ''would'' be the most mature and capable of the group, but his obsession with order tends to knock him down a couple pegs.
* NumberObsession: He loves the number 8 because of its perfect symmetry.
* OmnicidalManiac: [[spoiler:When he goes insane, he aims for a Class Z ApocalypseHow. He gets better.]]
%%* ThePerfectionist
* PowerLimiter: The Sanzu Lines, the lines in his hair. As he unlocks them, they activate a DefenceMechanismSuperpower, a SuperMode, and then [[spoiler:the progressive levels culminating with his becoming a 'true' shinigami in the closing chapters]].
* PullingThemselvesTogether: In the manga, when Mosquito [[spoiler:cuts Kid's arm off, the activation of his PowerLimiter causes the severed arm to reattach itself.]]
* ReverseGrip: Kid always uses his pistols upside-down, using his pinkies to pull the trigger.
* {{Shinigami}}: As Lord Death's child he is one himself. [[spoiler:He takes over his father's role after ascending to full Shinigami status.]]
* SkewedPriorities: In his debut appearance, he ditches Liz and Patty in middle of a pyramid filled with mummies to head back home to check on a painting at home that he felt was slightly asymmetrical. Thankfully the two girls are capable fighters on their own.
* TheSmartGuy: His deductive skills are nothing to sneeze at.
* TheStoic: One of the more serious characters in ''Manga/SoulEater' ...[[NotSoStoic until his symmetry problems kick in.]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: {{Invoked|Trope}} on the part of Lord Death. [[spoiler:Death designed Kid to resemble his own creator, [[Manga/FireForce Shinra Kusakabe]], who is technically Kid's grandfather. As he also strongly resembles his elder brother Asura, it's implied Death had done the same when Asura was born.]]
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: And when he's serious they can become downright ''frightening''.
* SuperSentaiStance: With Liz and Patty.
* SuperToughness: Has the body of a god, and therefore capable of enduring massive amounts of physical damage.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: With Liz and Patty. [[http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-diaZQ8uPf0c/UAGaMroPQVI/AAAAAAAALJI/xhxXHREj7cI/020.png?imgmax=2000 In the manga, not anymore.]]
* TokenRichStudent: Being the son of Lord Death, Kid is known to be wealthy and doesn't actually need to attend Weapon Meister Academy. He does so by his own choice and treats the role of a student as serious as he does symmetry.
* TheTropeKid: An unusual example in that Death the Kid is his actual ''name'', not a title he received. His friends refer to him as simply "Kid".
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: [[spoiler:When the Cthulhu-looking black mass has convinced/brainwashed/etc. him, his new mission being to end all of existence to create the ultimate symmetry. It doesn't get far after he encounters Black Star again though.]]
* VagueAge: At first it was never revealed how old Kid is, some believed that his biological and chronological ages have a connection, which would mean that he's somewhere in his mid to late teens. However some believed that since he's a Shinigami and his father is at least 800 years old that he has a case of OlderThanHeLooks and might be ReallySevenHundredYearsOld. However emphasis on 'was' as WordOfGod finally revealed through a [[https://twitter.com/Atsushi_Ohkubo/status/552044562760220672 Twitter post in response to a question]] that Kid is 13-15 years old making the former theory correct.
* WackyParentSeriousChild: With Lord Death.
* WeaksauceWeakness: His obsession with order. Once, [[spoiler:in Baba Yaga's castle]], Liz has to almost knock him out to get him to go the right way because he hadn't gone right an even number of times.
* WhyWeCantHaveNiceThings: In his debut appearance, Kid ends up destroying a perfectly symmetrical pyramid.
* WorldOfSilence: [[spoiler:Under the influence of GOO, Kid comes to a conclusion that "nothingness", or rather the death of all things, is the "absolute symmetry". Black☆Star snaps him out of it.]]
* WorthyOpponent: When Kid first enrolled to DWMA, he had a mindset of a [[JerkassGods jerkass god]], treating humans like no more than an aspect of his future GodOfTheDead duties. That is until Black☆Star challenged him to a duel out of the blue. While Star quickly lost, a flashback during Salvage arc shows Kid became IntriguedByHumanity and has been looking forward to Star's growth.

!!!The Thompson Sisters
[[folder: Shared Tropes]]
* {{BFG}}: Whenever the sisters sync with Kid to form Death Cannon. In the anime, Kid connects all of his Sanzu lines briefly.
* BrooklynRage: ''From'' Brooklyn even! Patty and Liz are {{Living Weapon}}s and criminals, before they chose a very inappropriate target and their lives took a turn for the better.
* CombatStilettos: She and Liz both sport boots with notable heels, and wears them into battle.
* DaughterOfAWhore: [[spoiler:Their mother is only referenced briefly as being the "most beautiful whore in town". She abandoned them when they were young.]]
* MuggingTheMonster: How they met Kid. It worked out eventually.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Their last name, Thompson, is based off the American firearms manufacturer John T. Thompson. To drill it home, both Patty and Liz turn into guns.
* ParentalAbandonment: [[spoiler:Patty and Liz were abandoned by their mother in the streets of Brooklyn, New York. There is no mention at all of her father. Given her background, it seems probable that her and Liz do not share the same father.]]
* PhenotypeStereotype: Patty and Liz are blonde, wear cowboy boots, have large breasts although Patty more so than Liz to Kid's annoyance, and are former muggers.
* SiblingsInCrime: Before meeting Kid, Patty and Liz were criminals from Brooklyn known infamously as "The Thompson Sisters".
* SiblingTeam: Liz and Patty are "The Thompson Sisters"--first a pair surviving on the street, then partnering up with Kid as his dual pistols.
* WhiteGangBangers: They have Eurocentric features given their skin tones and hair colors, but their reputation as [[SiblingsInCrime "the Thompson Sisters"]] was infamous enough they earned the attention of Death the Kid.

[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/SE_Patti_1042.png]]
One of Kid's Double Team Demon Guns and the younger of the Thompson sisters. Her personality yo-yos between childish CloudCuckooLander and insanely grinning badass, typically acting as the meister for her sister when Kid isn't available. Originally hails from Brooklyn.
-----
* ActionGirl: She is not only capable of wielding her sister in gun-form as well, but is a very capable physical fighter.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: As part of her GenkiGirl personality.
* AxCrazy: There's been several hints that she can be one vicious girl underneath the goofy personality. [[spoiler:She was apparently much worse before meeting Kid]].
* BadassAdorable: She certainly looks younger than she is, bust-size aside, and acts like a hyperactive child, but she's not one of the Grim Reaper's heir's partners for nothing.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Surprisingly she can be quite serious if the situation calls for it. Even having to force Liz and Kid to get back in the spirit to fight. She can also be [[HeroicComedicSociopath quite scary if having to go full force]].
* BigEater:
** During Crona's party, she and Black Star can be seen sucking up the entirety of the buffet table. Earlier, in a brief shot of the group having a meal, she's practically face down in her plate of food, shoveling.
** [[spoiler:Also shown in the Gluttony chapter where she and Black Star go nuts from the second they enter... And then things start to go a little weird...]]
* BlushSticker: One of the things that separate her from he sister in appearance.
* TheBully: Shown to be this alongside Liz in the prequel manga ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'', though she's mostly just following her sister's example there.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has a slightly bigger chest than her older sister, which is often pointed out, [[ACupAngst much to Liz' annoyance]].
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She wastes her time in a test making a paper giraffe out of her exam papers.
* CuteAndPsycho: Though some may argue it's merely because she's childish...the giraffe and the motherfucking-blue-sky would not agree.
* TheCutie: Her childish and peppy personality that makes her seem younger than she actually is earns her this status.
* TheDitz: She's kind of an airhead and is plenty goofy. Averted when things are very serious though.
* DumbBlonde: Though more crazy than air-headed. However, her idea of literary selection in the DWMA was a child's animal picture book in addition to her other habitual periods of blissful ignorance show she just may be equally air-headed as she is crazy.
* {{Eagleland}}: She and her sister were both muggers before joining Kid. Even after that she's still incredibly rude, although she usually doesn't seem especially mean about it.
* EyeObscuringHat: She sports this look while wearing a beanie in flashbacks. She and her sister also sometimes do this with the peaks of their cowboy hats.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Sanguine. Extroverted, upbeat, prone to aggression, silly.
* GangsterLand: She and her sister were both muggers before joining Kid. Even after that she's still incredibly rude, although she usually doesn't seem especially mean about it.
* GeniusDitz: Apparently a very skilled martial artist.
* GenkiGirl: Always seen laughing and jumping around.
* GroinAttack: Pulls one on Black Star during their training match when he isn't looking due [[WithMyHandsTied trying to tie his hands together to make the battle "even"]]. It was counted as fair though since the match ''had'' started and it was his own fault for trying to look cool.
* GunFu: Not as well as Kid, but if needed Patty can use Liz to fight while also using her ability to transform [[MundaneUtility to dodge attacks]] and switch with her sister. Of the two Patty tends to be more wild and sadistic in her attack style.
* HeroicBastard: [[spoiler: The child of a whore and an unknown father, initially averted as both were criminals. They became much more heroic when they partnered with Kid.]]
* TheHyena: Complete with [[MemeticMutation memetic]] laugh!
* InconsistentSpelling: Yen Press spells her name as "Patty", yet her name is spelled "Patti" in the anime's third ending sequence.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Has big blue eyes that bring out her childish demeanor. Averted when she shows her more devious side as well as when she is introduced as a criminal before she TookALevelInKindness.
* {{Joshikousei}}: In the manga, after [[spoiler:becoming part of Spartoi]]. Though unlike Maka, she retains her original shorts.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to her sister's calmer blue. While she's calmed down a lot from her days as a criminal, she's still by far the most hot-blooded and aggressive of the sisters.
* SlasherSmile: Whenever her more maniacal side shows up. She had this a lot when she was a criminal.
* SociopathicHero: Mostly heroic these days.
* TalkingWeapon: Talking gun.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: Initially, though Kid is now about her height by the end of the manga, some presuming he would reach his father's height at adulthood.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Despite her energy like that of a hyperactive girl, she is more of the tomboy compared to her sister, who's more like a regular teenager in response. She also wears a pair of puffy shorts with her uniform in contrast to her sister's skinny jeans.
* TookALevelInKindness: When we see her and Liz before meeting Kid, she's a psychotically grinning criminal and [[spoiler: went along with her sister's scheme to become Kid's partners to try and milk him for his wealth]]. However, she grew to very much care for him and became a better person as a result, wanting to do good.
* {{Womanchild}}: Despite being a teenager, she acts more like a zany child, least whenever she's not being serious.

!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AkenoWatanabe (Japanese), Creator/YukoKaida (Japanese - CD dramas), Creator/JamieMarchi (English), Marzia Del Fabbro (Italian)
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/SE_Liz_8717.png]]
Kid's other Demon Gun and the older Thompson sister. She is the more laid-back member of their trio and often expresses chagrin at her teammates' wackiness. She originally hails from Brooklyn.
-----
* ActionGirl: As par for Spartoi, though not as much as her sister.
* ACupAngst: While she isn't flat or as small as Maka, she is greatly upset at the fact that her younger sister has a significantly larger breast size than her (it annoys Kid as well since it makes them asymmetrical to each other).
* TheBully: Shown to be this alongside Patty in ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'', which takes place before the main series, where she deliberately starts a fight the protagonists just for looking at her funny. Thankfully, it's also the start of her CharacterDevelopment to the Patty and Liz we know and love now.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: She tries to be the voice of reason whenever Kid gets too fixated in his ridiculous obsession with symmetry.
* CoolBigSis: Very much cares and looks after Patty, which was even part of the reason they initially went with Kid. Kinda acts like this with Kid as well.
* CovertPervert: She is the second-most perverted member of Spartoi (losing to ''Tsubaki'' of all people, by a small margin). She doesn't show it much though, even compared to Tsubaki, whom had some instances that become more revealing of her hidden pervertedness in retrospection.
* DeadpanSnarker: Sometimes. Wouldn't blame her given who she is paired up with.
* DumbBlonde: Particularly evident during the "Super Written Exam", which she fails because she spends all her study time taking breaks to tend to her nails. Though compared to Patty (who spends her exam time coloring and turning her exam papers into a giraffe), Liz is a goddamn genius. Granted, she isn't that dumb for this trope by any means.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Leukine[=/=]Choleric. Balanced and level-headed, but can be a prickly scaredy-cat (when it comes to ghosts).
* GoldDigger: [[spoiler:She and Patty originally agreed to help Kid so she could take him for all he has. Then he grew on her.]]
* GunFu: Not as well as Kid, but if needed Liz can use Patty to fight while also using her ability to transform [[MundaneUtility to dodge attacks]] and switch with her sister. Liz tends to be more practical with her shots going for lots of damage over precision.
* HeroicBastard: [[spoiler: Her and Patty's mother was a prostitute who abandoned her daughters to the streets. No mention is ever made of the girls' father.]]
* IronicFear: Afraid of ghosts, despite the fact that, as a weapon, ''she can eat souls''.
* LoveRedeems: Platonic love in this case, but [[spoiler: she and Patty were originally a pair of muggers on the path of becoming Kishin who mugged Kid one day only for him to completely NoSell them and offer them a place as his weapons due to their identical pistol forms. Originally she planned to act as a GoldDigger and ditch kid once she and Patty had taken him for all he's worth, but over time the two of them mellowed out and legitimately became his friends, saving them from that dark path and horrible life.]]
* MsFanservice: Not as much as Blair, but still quite frequently.
* MuggingTheMonster: Mugging the son of Death probably wasn't the brightest idea. [[spoiler:Turns out this was intentional on Kid's part as 1.) They were dangerously close to becoming Kishin from their violent attacks to which Kid was sent to stop them, and 2.) They're twin guns to which, given his parallel obsession, made them the perfect weapons for him.]]
* OnlySaneWoman:
** Though on a team with both [[ObsessivelyOrganized Kid]] and [[TheDitz Patty]], it wouldn't take much.
** Not to mention having to deal with [[LargeHam Black]]☆[[LargeHam Star]] and [[VitriolicBestBuds Soul and Maka]] on a regular basis.
** The only person who could match her for sheer sanity is Tsubaki (who is in a team with ''[[AttentionWhore Black☆Star]]'')...
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to her sister's excitable red. For the most part, Liz tends to exercise a good deal more caution and restraint.
* SarcasticDevotee: Although constantly fed up with Kid's unreasonable obsessions and willing to admit even to rival teams that "he's completely insane," she deeply admires him and wants him to succeed.
* TalkingWeapon: She, as all other Weapons, is capable of talking to her partner in her Weapon-form.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: She's quite tall while her partner Kid is quite short, so the height difference between them is even more notable. Kid does later grow to be about the same height as her, though.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly girl to Patty's tomboy. She also wears skinny jeans with her uniform in contrast to her sister's puffy shorts, and even wears jewelry.
* TookALevelInKindness: When we see her and Patty before meeting Kid, she and her sister were criminals and [[spoiler: potential future Kishins even. She even went with Kid just for the wealth]]. Along the way, she genuinely grew to like and befriend him. She even reflected on how she didn't know when she changed and how they were 'slain' by Kid. She's moved to tears when she realizes she hasn't thanked Kid for saving her and her sister from themselves during the mission to [[spoiler: save Kid from the Book of Eibon.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: In ''Soul Eater Not''. Presumably she grew out of it by the time of the series proper.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She's extremely afraid of paranormal things, convinced that any ghost she meets is out to kill her.

!!Ox Ford
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HiroyukiYoshino (Japanese), Creator/JessieJamesGrelle (English), Omar Vitelli (Italian)
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/SE_Ox_8671.jpg]]
Ox is one of the top students at Shibusen in terms of grades and is Harvar's meister. He also has one-sided feelings for Kim.
-----
* AdrenalineMakeover: After joining Spartoi, Ox grows his hair out and swaps his glasses for goggles.
* AnimeHair: He uses a lot of hair gel to keep it that way.
* BadassBookworm: Pretty much describes himself as such. In a couple occasions where he's [[ShirtlessScene shirtless]] we see he's much more muscular than you'd expect.
* DoggedNiceGuy: To Kim. [[spoiler:It all pays off in the end.]]
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: He grows his hair out, though he keeps his "pillars", after Spartoi is formed. [[spoiler:Right before the next time he actually ''fights'' he shaves it again, which annoys Kim because she told him to grow it out in the first place.]]
* HotBlooded: Ox is pretty passionate at times, specifically when it comes to his pride and his love for classmate Kim.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: [[spoiler:Ox manages to get through to a BrainwashedAndCrazy Kim by promising her to make a place for her in the world where she will be accepted.]]
* ImportantHaircut:
** [[spoiler:At one point, he gets rid of his signature "horns" for Kim. Not so much a haircut as him actually ''snapping'' them off. He does so while promising to Kim that he'll find her somewhere she can belong.]]
** [[spoiler:Subverted shortly after. Kim restores his 'do for him in the same chapter.]] However, he ''does'' [[spoiler:stop shaving the rest of his head afterwards]].
* MadLove: No matter how many times Kim turns him down, he is wholly convinced that the two are meant to be together. [[spoiler:She eventually starts to reciprocate the affection when he accepts her as a Witch, even going as far as to get rid of his signature hairstyle for her.]]
* OpaqueNerdGlasses: Ox is only second to Maka in being the academy's most studious student, and he sports a pair of opaque glasses with swirls on the lenses. It also serves to contrast him with Harvar, as while Harvar eventually switches to a pair of shades that let his eyes be seen, Ox continues to use these, his eyes never actually being shown as a result.
* PunnyName: Ox Ford = Oxford University (quite fitting, considering his intelligence).
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler:Kim eventually returns his affections when he promises to create a world where she can be accepted, topped by him destroying his beloved hairstyle. They appear to be officially dating from then on.]]
* ReusedCharacterDesign: Looks quite a bit like Vice-President Lodigy, the BigBad of ''Manga/BIchi''.
* TheRival: He and Maka often butt heads when it comes to being top of their class. That said, they are on the same side, and have helped each other out more than once.
%%* ScaryShinyGlasses:
* SpecsOfAwesome: Ox might sport some fairly nerdy spectacles, but he is just as capable a fighter as the rest of his classmates, and has even bested Maka once or twice.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: [[spoiler:He accepts Kim even when he finds that she is a witch, standing up to some classmates who are saying bad things about her.]]

!!Harvar D. Eclair

[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/SE_Harvar_6357.jpg]]
Harvar is Ox's weapon and takes the form of a lance. In weapon form, he has the power of lightning. He is fiercely loyal to Ox and prioritizes his safety above all else while maintaining an ice-cold composure in battle even when Ox does not.
-----
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: When in partial weapon state.
* CoolShades: In contrast to Ox's SpecsOfAwesome, Harvar wears these no matter what. His first pair obscured his eyes, his second does not at all.
* CuttingTheKnot: His solutions to most problems are precise displays of violence.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: When he first appeared in the manga, he lacked his ponytail and instead had a bowl cut. Since he only appeared in his human form briefly during this appearance, it can be hard to recall. The anime {{avert|edTrope}}s this by giving him his normal look during that appearance.
* IAmNotLefthanded: Most weapons don't show terribly strong individual combat capabilities. Harvar, on the other hand, proves otherwise. Out of all the weapons, he fights most effectively on his own, and easily held off [[spoiler:both Jackie and Kim]] on his own.
* MeaningfulName: "Eclair" is the French word for "lightning."
* OneWayVisor: He wears one until switching to some more typical shades (which let you see his eyes occasionally).
* PragmaticHero: When [[spoiler:Kim and Jackie join Arachnophobia]], he doesn't hesitate to consider them enemies despite the circumstances. Likewise, when [[spoiler:Death orders Crona be killed]] he's the first member of Spartoi to argue it actually is necessary.
* PunnyName: Harvar D. = Harvard University, like Ox's name is a ShoutOut to Oxford.
* SatelliteCharacter: Similar to the Pots and Jackie, Harvar's only real purpose in the story is to serve as a partner and foil to Ox, and is never seen without him as a result. However, as opposed to the other weapons on his team, Harvar was at least given a few character traits and a definitive personality despite his few appearances and dialogue.
* ShockAndAwe: His spear form can generate and shoot out electricity.
* TheSpock: In opposition to Ox's passionate and hot-blooded tendencies, Harvar is almost always coldly logical.
* TheStoic: So much so that it offers him a degree of immunity to any madness-based attack. While the rest of the cast is clawing their eyes out and screaming about spiders eating the inside of their skulls, he is subject to a [[NoSell mild tickling sensation]].
* TalkingWeapon: Capable of talking to his partner in weapon form, as all Weapons can.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Played up as this when his Pragmatic Hero tendencies get taken too fair. He has a deep distaste of witches and believes in following orders above all else, even if they are ruthless and brutal, unlike the rest of the team. [[spoiler: Best shown when he encountered a brainwashed Kim along with Jacqueline, and decided to remorselessly impale Kim with the full intent of killing her after deeming she betrayed her friends.]]

Kilik is a pot meister and is often teamed up with Ox for missions. Kilik uses a pair of twins as his weapons, Pot of Fire and Pot of Thunder.
------
* BadassAndChildDuo: The "Children" are his child partners. Kilik is the "Badass." How so? [[spoiler: Figured out how to use FOUR weapons together (Liz, Patty, Pot of Fire, and Pot of Thunder) to create a WaveMotionGun effect]]. Still not convinced? In his debut chapter, he's billed as one of the three strongest one-star Miesters (at the time), alongside Kid and Black☆Star.
%%* BigEater: [[spoiler:In the Gluttony Chapter]].
* DubNameChange: The original manga apparently holds his name as "Kirikou Rung" with Kilik Lung being what the dub calls him.
* HotBlooded: He can be quite heated and passionate in battle, not unlike Black Star.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: He fights using twin ''pots''.
* {{Joshikousei}}: Becomes this when [[spoiler:he gets gender-switched by the Book of Eibon]].
* MeaningfulName: If you translate his name differently, it ends up as "Kirikou". As in the West African fairy tale... or [[WesternAnimation/KirikouAndTheSorceress the (French) movie]].
* PowerFist: His weapons are called pots, but they're essentially big ass metal boxing gloves. The left one is quite [[ShockAndAwe shocking]], and the right one is on [[PlayingWithFire on fire]]. Their elemental powers are quite useful for performing combined attacks with his teammates, who also use lightning and fire.
* TheRival: A friendly one to Black☆Star.
%%* ScaryShinyGlasses
* SpecsOfAwesome: Sports a pair of rectangular spectacles and is one of the best fighters at the academy.
* TokenMinority: WordOfGod is he was included with the intent of adding a black character to the cast, due to their general absence in anime and manga.

!!Pot of Fire and Pot of Thunder
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/36605.jpg]]
Pair of twins weapons, Pot of Fire and Pot of Thunder, used by Kilik, and the youngest members of Spartoi by far. Though termed "pots", they resemble large gloves in their weapon form.
-----
* AmbiguousGender: At first it's difficult to tell if they're identical female or male twins, or simply fraternal twins. A powerup [[OlderAlterEgo temporarily causes them to grow older]], showing that Fire is a boy, and Thunder is a girl.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: They are dark-skinned, but also sport blond hair and blue eyes. Noteworthy in that while other characters' ethnicities are made explicit (Tsubaki is Japanese, Kilik is black, etc.), the Pots' is left up in the air.
* BadassAdorable: Considering how they're toddlers and through ALL the freaky, scary stuff they've been through, and they haven't shown any signs of fear, they are DEFINITELY badass.
* BlushSticker: The Pots almost always have them visible on their cheeks, even in the middle of battle. It highlights their childish appearance.
* CuteMute: Neither of them speak at any point in the series, and are two young, cute children.
* HalfIdenticalTwins: Fire is male, Thunder is female. They're only near-identical because they're so young; when shown as adults, they're easily distinguished from each other.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: Their hats and the shirts they wear under their overalls. They didn't even look different during the Lust chapter in the Book of Eibon!
* InHarmonyWithNature: They're said to be earth shamans, which gives them some sort of nature empathy: they both were depressed at finding land Arachnophobia had polluted with magic and search for things by communing with the earth.
* PowerFist: The Pots both transform into gloved gauntlets capable of manipulating fire and thunder respectively.
* PlayingWithFire: Even outside of his weapon form, Fire is capable of some level of pyrokinesis.
* SatelliteCharacter: A majority of the time they are only seen interacting with Kilik and little is known about their individual personalities outside of being kids and Kilik's partners.
* ShockAndAwe: Thunder can generate electricity even outside of her weapon form.
* SingleMindedTwins: The two often work together as one person, mimicking each other's movements and never even separating from one another.
* ThemeTwinNaming: The two of them are Earth Shamans, and are named after their specific capabilities with fire and thunder.
* TheVoiceless: They make sounds here and there, but they both don't have any real dialogue throughout the entire series. They don't even have voice actors in either language of the anime.
* WhoNamesTheirKidDude: Their full names are Pot of Fire and Pot of Thunder respectively. Though due to the way names work at the DWMA, where a student can choose to go under a nickname of any kind, who knows.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Aged-up!Pot of Fire does not appear to be wearing a shirt.

[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/SE_Kim_2508.jpg]]
Kim is a lamp meister and partner to Jacqueline who is first seen as one of the Meisters chosen to help capture BREW. She is obsessed with making money and appears to be rather condescending and bossy toward a few people, particularly Ox. She's somewhat of a main character in ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'' which expands her role.
-----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: [[spoiler:She can't kill people with her magical power and was cast out from the witches because of it.]]
* {{Ambadassador}}: [[spoiler:Kid assigns her to be the diplomat between the DWMA and the Witches at the end of the manga, with Ox Ford helping her.]]
* AnimalMotifs: The {{tanuki}} (racoon-dog).
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Arachne realized all too well she was a good witch and has her and Jacqueline brainwashed to turn her evil. Ox Ford manages to snap her out of it.]]
* ColorCodedEyes: Kim's eyes are green, noteworthy in that she tends to be a bit greedy, often demanding payment for even the smallest of services.
* CombatMedic: [[spoiler:She's a meister who specializes in regenerative magic.]]
* CuteWitch: [[spoiler:Kim is later revealed to be a Witch, and her round eyes and short pink hair give her a cute appearance.]]
* TheDreaded: A lot of other girls in the dorm don't quite feel comfortable with her presence, to say the least.
* TheExile: [[spoiler:It is revealed later that she was cast out of Witch Society for not having destructive magic. The Witch Judge deemed her too weak as a result and forced her to survive on her own.]]
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: [[spoiler:Her regenerative magic saves her from death during her battle with Ox and Harvar while she's BrainWashedAndCrazy after she gets speared in the gut by Harvar when he tries to end the fight quickly.]]
* HadToBeSharp: [[spoiler:After being tossed out of Witch Society, she had to learn quickly to survive on her own. Enrolling in DWMA was the best she could think of and charging people for money is how she goes about keeping up expenses. This did make her a bit aloof over time least until Jackie started opening up to her, along with the ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'' students, the rest of Spartoi and ultimately Ox who has a crush on her.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Very aloof and standoffish, but isn't willing to see innocents be harmed (even though she'll charge for helping afterward on some cases).
* {{Joshikousei}}: She and her partner Jacqueline are both schoolgirls who sport SailorFuku uniforms.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Her partner Jacqueline's weapon form is a lantern, albeit one capable of blasting out fireballs.
* IneffectualLoner: Kim starts out this way, only particularly close with her friend Jacqueline and in general shoving others away unless they have something to pay her for. She warms up over the course of the series.
* InformedAttractiveness : She's certainly good looking with a nice figure, but then again, [[GenericCuteness so are all the other girls]].
* MoneyFetish: Loves money and charges for the minor of "services" around the campus. [[spoiler:Apparently this was due to needing to survive outside the witch world.]]
* MistakenNationality: In ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'', it's stated she's never told anyone where she's from, which [[{{Mukokuseki}} somehow]] lead to people thinking she was from any number of different countries (including Korea, Spain, and Tunisia).
* MsFanservice: At some point in the manga, she started getting in on the FanService just as much as Liz and Tsubaki. At times she's also this in ''Soul Eater Not''.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: [[Music/ThePixies Kim]] [[Music/TheBreeders Deal]].
* PetTheDog: Literally, by healing and saving the life of an injured, [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter unusually cute]] dog.
* PoorCommunicationKills: [[spoiler:Lord Death always suspected she was a witch but noticed she wasn't malicious and left her be. However when his agents were trying to weed out moles in the DWMA following the Medusa attack, she panicked and ran thinking they would execute her. Turns out that wasn't the case and they just wanted to know why she left the witches. What's worse she turned to Arachne to take her in, who brainwashed Jacqueline and her to be evil until it was broken by Oxford. After which she returned to DWMA who finally cleared up the misunderstanding.]]
* PlayingWithFire: Kim can use Jacqueline to blast jets and balls of fire in battle.
* PunnyName: Kim Diehl sounds like the English word "Kindle", [[MeaningfulName which can mean "to build or fuel a fire" or "to arouse or create an emotional response",]] and is a meister who uses a fire based weapon and has a teammate with a massive crush on her.
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler:With Ox, once he makes it clear that his love for her is genuine whether she's a Witch or not. They seem to be a couple for the rest of the series.]]
* RescueRomance: [[spoiler:She starts to reciprocate Ox's feelings after he rescues her from Arachnophobia.]]
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:She's revealed to be a witch, though an exiled one due to the Witch Society preferring destructive magic over practical use (her magic is a healing based).]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: According to Eternal Feather, when she first came to the academy [[http://i.imgur.com/Cn0SpFR.png she was much more bubbly and had longer hair.]] But later cut it and became more aloof. [[spoiler:This was to keep attention away from her so no one would find out she was a witch.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:She reveals herself to be a very mild version ''Manga/SoulEaterNot''. Witches often age much slower than humans, but in her case she's just sixteen but looks about fourteen.]]

Jacqueline is Kim's loyal partner and takes the form of a lamp. Her name is derived from jack-o-lanterns and the renown English cellist, Jacqueline Mary du Pré. Along with Kim, her role is more expanded in ''Manga/SoulEaterNot''.
-----
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:When she and Kim join Arachne, though it takes awhile to snap her out of the effects. Curiously, while Kim acts out of character to Ox whilst under the effects of the insanity machine, Jackie's dedication to her meister remains.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Her hair and eyes are both dark.
* EpicFlail: When she's not PlayingWithFire or making [[StuffBlowingUp stuff blow up.]]
* FlyingBroomstick: Not a broomstick, but she can extend a pole out of her weapon form to let Kim ride her like one. [[spoiler:[[{{Foreshadowing}} An early hint as to Kim's true nature]]]]
* FireBreathingWeapon:: Jacqueline's weapon form is a lantern capable of blasting fire.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: She's a ''lamp''.
* {{Joshikousei}}: She and Kim both sport SailorFuku outfits, and are two of the few girls to do so at the school.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: She's a lantern, yet this lets her function as a flamethrower, a rocket, and a burning flail.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Cellist Jacqueline du Pré. He first name and middle initial also call to mind first-lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's nickname "Jackie O".
* PlayingWithFire: Jacqueline's weapon form is a lantern capable of blasting fire.
* PunnyName: Oh come on! Jacqueline O. Lantern? Fittingly, her lantern form, while not a pumpkin, has a metal grate in the shape of a malevolent toothy grin.
* SatelliteCharacter: She is never seen without Kim and barely, if ever, interacts with the other characters, even those on her team. ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'' shows what she's like by herself, such as how she is a hard-working person who tries to get the job done, but the majority of Jackie's characterization still relies heavily on her interactions with Kim and her desire to become closer to her.
* TheStoic: Jacqueline often struggles to express her own emotions, and is embarrassed when they're addressed.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: The master of this in ''Manga/SoulEaterNot'' regarding her totally platonic, non-romantic feelings towards Kim, who she sees as a stray animal and doesn't find attractive at all. Thankfully this is mostly just in her internal monologues rather than everyday conversation.
* TalkingWeapon: Capable of talking to Kim in her weapon form.
* TsurimeEyes: Her eye shape helps highlight her more mature nature.
