The AI units used by Project Freelancer play a large role in the ongoing plot of the series. The Director used the [=AIs=] to experiment with their abilities to enhance the performance of their hosts, but was only able to acquire a single AI under UNSC law. This AI was the Alpha, and was based on himself. To create other [=AIs=], the Director tortured the Alpha with elaborate scenarios, causing it to splinter into other [=AIs=], like split personalities. These [=AIs=], each based on one aspect of the Alpha, were harvested and given to the agents one by one. The exception was Beta - as she was not created as a result of torture, instead of the memories of someone the Director loved dearly, she was given a robotic body, and accepted into the project as one of the agents - Tex.

When the Chairman of the UNSC Oversight Sub-Committee became conscious of the fact that Project Freelancer had acquired more than one AI, and the project was ultimately disbanded, the Alpha was sent to live, unaware of its identity as an AI, in Blood Gulch, as Private Leonard Church, a member of the practice armies Project Freelancer had used. After the events of ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles'', the [=AIs=] were rounded up, their hosts murdered, by "The Meta" (Agent Maine, under his AI Sigma's controlling influence), until they were all destroyed, along with all other Freelancer equipment in the EMP blast initiated by the Alpha himself.

The only AI to survive the blast was Epsilon (Alpha's memories), whom Caboose reactivated and explained what had happened after the Alpha was moved to Blood Gulch, thereby "recreating" Church. Since Epsilon had the memories of the complete Alpha, it also had the memories of all the other [=AIs=], and has now controlled the ability to duplicate them without losing his own form, essentially bringing them back in some way or another.
----
!!Associated Tropes:
* AIIsACrapshoot: They are deliberately warned about the dangers of rampancy, an issue in the [[Franchise/{{Halo}} Halo universe]].
** Made all the more ironic given the fact that most of them are a result of driving an AI completely insane over and over again.
* AnthropomorphicPersonification: All of them except the Alpha are some defining attribute of the Alpha that it sheared off.
* ArtificialIntelligence: It's what they are, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin as the page title may indicate]].
* BackFromTheDead: While the original [=AIs=] are all technically dead, Epsilon brings them back in the form of his memories after Season 10. He actively suppresses the copies of Omega and Sigma, and spends time talking to and joking with Delta and Theta. According to WordOfGod from the Afterbuzz stream, after Epsilon's HeroicSacrifice the Fragments are back, but in a more "potent" form, condensed down to their core attributes. However, they all died again after the fight, rendering the suit useless.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: As noted multiple times, the A.I.s are not ones who view morality as a human may, leading to their actions being strange and occasionally chaotic to anyone not following their mindset.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Much like the agents, though AI also have other physical ways to distinguish themselves, such as [[AnimationBump animation styles]] or [[TheFaceless whether]] [[BaldOfEvil or not]] they are wearing a helmet.
* DigitalAvatar: How they present themselves. By the end of Season 6, we had seen almost all of them, with Epsilon being the last one, having to make one for himself.
* DoomedByCanon: In Season 9 and 10, all of the [=AIs=] except for Epsilon are this, due to having been killed off at the end of ''Reconstruction''.
* EmbodimentOfVice: Omega is the personification of Alpha's rage, and Gamma personifies deceit. Sigma is said to embody Alpha's ambition and creativity, which aren't bad traits per say, but he certainly gives them an evil spin. Connie's files on Project Freelancer also mention the "Greed" AI, although it hasn't appeared on-screen, even if it had actually existed.
* EnemyWithout: Omega and Gamma to the Alpha during The Blood Gulch Chronicles. The rest of them end up antagonizing their progenitor in The Recollection and The Project Freelancer Saga.
* {{Flanderization}}: An in-universe example. Due to the nature of memory, the recreations of the fragments caused by Epsilon's splitting are more "potent", and their core attributes are emphasized. This is largely an InformedAttribute however, as they're said to have died after the battle with Hargrove.
* GratuitousGreek: All the artificial intelligences are named after letters of the Greek alphabet. They all come from a single intelligence, the Alpha, that had parts of it that controlled specific emotions grafted off and turned into intelligences of their own. The letter each AI is matched with is somewhat significant; take Omega, named after the last letter, who's made from the Alpha's hatred and as such, is very likely to end you.
* InformedAttribute: When Epsilon fragmented himself so the Fragments could help the guys fight against Hargrove's forces and run the Meta's suit for Tucker, it was said the Fragments would be more "[[{{Flanderization}} potent]]", in that they would more emphasize their core attributes. This is never seen though, as when Tucker recounts what happened to Dylan Andrews, he said the suit became useless when the battle was over, and that Epsilon, along with the Fragments he made, died running the suit for him.
* KilledOffForReal: Most of them are dead by the end of Season 6, only to be brought back via Episilon in Season 8 and 12. By the end of Season 13 however, all known AI are dead.
* LiteralSplitPersonality: All of them but the Alpha and Beta are fragments sheared off by the Alpha and captured by the Engineer at Project Freelancer.
* MadeOfEvil: Gamma, Sigma and Omega are the personifications of Alpha's deceit, ambition and rage respectively. See EmbodimentOfVice above.
* MoreThanMindControl: Implied. North and York both mention that the A.I. have a fixation on the Alpha, and there are hints that there is some innate desire to be whole again between all the fragments, though when Sigma and the Meta assimilate them this desire is pushed up to eleven.
* NoodleIncident: The details of how they helped the Reds and Blues fight off overwhelming odds trapped on a ship of Charon's is ultimately left untouched for the most part. All we know for certain is that they were gone for good not long after that final battle.
* PhlebotinumHandlingEquipment: For certain armor enhancements.
* ProjectedMan: How they typically present themselves, almost all of them being in armor like their partnered agents.
* RestrainingBolt: Of a sort. It's [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique incredibly dangerous]] to activate [[AppliedPhlebotinum armor enhancements]] without an AI to help run them. Otherwise, the power is likely to [[PhlebotinumBreakdown short out]], [[PhlebotinumOverload overdo it]], or kill the user.
* RobotBuddy: That is, if they aren't [[AIIsACrapshoot more malicious]].
* ShellShockedVeteran: The fragments are known to have symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder after the [[ColdBloodedTorture method]] for creating them.
-->'''York:''' I wonder if they're all like this, the A.I.s. You know, jittery, nervous, no, not nervous...\
'''North Dakota:''' Anxious.\
'''York:''' Yeah. Anxious. It's like Delta always thinks that something bad is always about to happen. I don't get it. [[DramaticIrony What do they have to worry about?]]
* SlidingScaleOfRobotIntelligence: All over the place. Delta and the complete Alpha seem in the range of ''Nobel Bot'', but the rest seem more like an ''Average Joe Android'', but with more emotion and interpersonal skills.
* WalkingSpoiler: Their true nature isn't revealed until ''Reconstruction'', with further reveals to cement them in this status.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Most of them don't even show up in Reconstruction except for small, brief snippets of time. Most of them weren't even ''named'' by the time they were erased by the emp. This gets {{subverted|Trope}} for most of them by the Project Freelancer saga. Like their Freelancer partners, the saga gave further insight into a lot of them and their relationships with their partners, Theta and Sigma in particular. The only exceptions being Eta and Iota, who were largely TheDividual and silent.

!Omega (O'Malley)
[[quoteright:238:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Omega_AI_S10_2718.png]]
[[caption-width-right:238:''"I will devour their hearts and crap out their souls! They will all taste oblivion! Which tastes just like Red Bull...[[TakeThat which is disgusting]]."'']]
-->'''Voiced By:''' Burnie Burns (Default voice and while possessing Tex), Creator/JoelHeyman (while possessing Caboose), Matt Hullum (while possessing Doc, "Head Cannon")
-->'''Attribute:''' [[UnstoppableRage Rage]]

->'''Doc:''' You know, I really think we should try a non-violent approach to resolve this.\
'''O'Malley:''' I agree, except replace the word "non" with "extremely", and after the word "violent" include "blood explosion extraordinaire"!

The ArcVillain of the Blood Gulch Chronicles, Omega was the [=AI=] partner assigned to Tex as part of the Freelancer program ("O'Malley" is a portmanteau of their names, Omega and Allison). While Tex was already, according to Church, "a rotten bitch," the addition of Omega turned her into "a rotten bitch with cybernetic enhancements." After the Freelancer program was shut down following Agent Washington's breakdown (see below), Omega possessed Tex and fled the facility before he could be removed. A bloodthirsty and malevolent [=AI=], O'Malley was capable of [[BodySurf possessing soldiers via their helmet radios]] like a virus. Once Tex was killed, O'Malley briefly possessed Caboose (and may have contributed towards his drop in intelligence), then seized the medic Frank [=DuFresne=] (see below) up until the finale. Though a real danger, O'Malley's dialogue frequently dips into cartoonish levels of villainy.

''Reconstruction'' revealed that Omega was actually a fragment of the Alpha, the [=AI=] given to Project Freelancer which was subsequently tortured into fragmenting. Omega inherited the Alpha's anger, which explains O'Malley's ability to inspire fury in those it possessed, as well as the Alpha's ability to travel via radio transmissions. Omega was recovered by the Meta (see below) and was destroyed at the end of the series.
----
!!Associated Tropes:
* AffablyEvil: During the ''Blood Gulch Chronicles''. He may have been an insane megalomaniac, but he spent most of his time bickering with Doc or being a LaughablyEvil LargeHam.
* AIIsACrapshoot: The most noticeable in the series. Than again, it's justified as he's made of rage.
* ArchEnemy: To Church. Almost all the problems he has can be traced back to Omega. Hell, he even gives Epsilon-Church some trouble.
* ArcVillain: Of the ''Blood Gulch Chronicles''.
* AxCrazy: Being the personification of rage can do that to an AI.
* BigBad: Of the ''Blood Gulch Chronicles''. Although he is LaughablyEvil, his actions against the Reds and Blues as well as his world domination efforts are the primary reason for the situation the Reds and Blues are in.
* BigBadWannabe: Was effectively the main antagonist for the first five seasons, but O'Malley was portrayed more along the lines of a LargeHam parody of the BigBad archetype.
* BodySurf: Omega can switch from host to host through inhabiting their minds if their built-in helmet radios are on.
* TheBusCameBack: In ''The Chorus Trilogy'', both personas of Omega return. His goofier persona from Seasons 1-5 returns via Doc's SplitPersonality, while the darker version of him from Season 6 and beyond returns through Epsilon's memories of the fragments.
* CardCarryingVillain: That's at least the affect he has on those he possess.
* CerebusRetcon: Omega in Seasons 1-5 is largely an ineffectual random villain. In season 6 onward, he's a completely dangerous psychopath. In Episode 13 of Season 10, Sigma and Gamma describe Omega as the most powerful of the Freelancer A.I.s, stating that "Omega's strength is unmatched. I don't know if anyone could beat him." Granted, Sigma and Gamma aren't exactly the most reliable sources of information[[note]] A ManipulativeBastard and a ConsummateLiar, respectively[[/note]] and are clearly manipulating Carolina into doing something dangerous. However, it does in hindsight make Church beating Omega out of Caboose's head at the end of the Blood Gulch Chronicles something of a CMOA.
* CharacterDevelopment: Implied. Flashbacks and the first two seasons show Omega started out as grim and serious, and more focused on satisfying his bloodlust than actually making plans. After possessing Doc, he gains aspirations towards omnicide and goes along with Freelancer Command's plans, is willing to employ the help of others, and even being willing to compromise with Tex, but it also resulted in him becoming far more goofy and hammy. His actions in ''Reconstruction'' show he reverted to his original brutality in an effort to escape the Meta, which failed.
* TheCorrupter:
** Whenever Omega possesses someone, he changes their behaviors into something that's somewhat more in line with his own personality, along with essentially amplifying their own negative traits ten-fold. Inside Tex, he gave no indication of presence or even sentience, and merely made her more bitter. Inside [[TheDitz Caboose]], he was more of a random psychopath. It isn't until he possesses Doc that he gets any aspirations towards [[OmnicidalManiac omnicide]].
** From Walter's description at the first episode of ''Reconstruction'', Omega's sting at possessing the Blues stationed at Valhalla was more... brutal, to put it mildly.
** He also seems to have a corrupting influence on Doc to some degree. Even after Omega is gone, Doc actually starts cursing, speaking more offensively, and is more lenient about violence. Though this might also be attributable to hanging out with the Reds and Blues. This comes to a head in Season 13, where Omega apparently had enough influence on Doc that when Doc went nuts, he gained a split personality that's a perfect imitation of O'Malley.
** Season 14 implies it may work both ways, since he keeps the personality he had while inhabiting Doc while body-hopping through the Reds and Blues.
** Epsilon-Omega is implied to be trying to be this to Epsilon. Epsilon, however, [[DefiedTrope won't have any of it.]]
* TheCorruptible: Epsilon's rant at the end of Season 10 implies that Omega was "twisted" into becoming what he is now by the Director.
* DemonicPossession: Kind of, more like Evil AI Possession. It's implied this works both ways, since his personality seems to change depending on his host.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: He is the final enemy of ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles'', which is the first story arc in the series.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: After serving as a major character throughout ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles'', he's assimilated by the Meta very early on in ''Reconstruction'' and wiped out by the EMP at the end of the season with no fanfare.
* EmptyShell: Omega is composed of nothing but rage; any personality he shows while possessing someone is just him displaying their negative traits and anger magnified a thousand fold, with some megalomania dashed in for spice. That said, Season 14 shows the long amount of time he spent in Doc resulted in him adopting the personality he displayed while possessing him.
* EvilIsHammy: He's a megalomaniac. It shows, from the EvilLaugh to the flourished speech.
* EvilIsNotAToy: In the final two episodes of ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles'', it's revealed that the [=UNSC=]/Freelancer Command's ultimate plan to win the war with the Aliens was to have Omega possess Junior (their Chosen One) and use him to take over their religion and subvert it from the inside. In short, their plan to bring about peace was to hand over an entire alien army to the guy who was ''literally made of hatred''. Church even points out what a horribly stupid plan this is.
* EvilSoundsDeep: When taking control of another person, he uses a lower pitched version of their voice. When possessing Doc he also has a weird accent added on.
* EvilBrit: Well, his [[WhatTheHellIsThatAccent accent]] while possessing Doc sounds vaguely British, for what it's worth.
* FaceHeelTurn: Tortured the Alpha after being fractured off from him. Epsilon's comments at the end of Season 10 imply [[BrainwashedAndCrazy Omega didn't have much of a choice in the matter.]]
* HorrifyingTheHorror: It's implied his actions in ''Reconstruction'' were a desperate attempt to escape from the Meta, which wound up failing when the Meta arrived before he could rebuild the radio towers.
* KilledOffForReal: Though two separate incarnations of him appear in later seasons, the original Omega is killed for good by the EMP at the end of Season 6.
* KnightOfCerebus: The majority of his time spent in Blood Gulch averted this, but following Reconstruction he gets darker and darker through flashbacks. Especially with the revelation of his torturing the Alpha.
* LargeHam: Very, ''very'' much so, especially in ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles''.
* LaughablyEvil: Omega, in Doc's body, is too ineffectual and hammy to be taken seriously. In the ''Reconstruction'' series and after that, however, he crosses into more horrifying territory with the description of his encounter with another group of soldiers and Tex's revelation that Omega ruthlessly tortured the Alpha.
* MadeOfEvil: Omega is made entirely of rage, so it'd be surprising if he wasn't completely motivated by his desire to murder everyone ForTheEvulz.
* MakeWayForTheNewVillains: The Meta firmly establishes his position as the new BigBad in ''Reconstruction'' by assimilating Omega shortly before the season starts.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: In Episode 15 of Season 10, we get Omega urging Tex to kill Carolina, who by that point was immobilized by the two AI in her head. And unlike all those threats he made in the Blood Gulch Chronicles, this was played completely straight. He also speaks in a genuinely intimidating deep, gutteral growl that wouldn't sound out of place coming out of the Meta.
* {{Portmanteau}}: O'Malley --> Om-Alli (Omega-Allison)
* RoboticPsychopath: He's an AxCrazy A.I. made of rage and hatred.
* StalkerWithoutACrush: It's offhandedly mentioned that Omega had occasionally left Texas, but no matter what, he would always return to her. It's part of the reason she wants him dead, and why Omega attempts to make a bee-line to Tex in Season 5 as soon as she starts transmitting on an open channel.
* StarterVillain: The first enemy the Blood Gulch Crew had to EnemyMine against to defeat. Due to a combination of being inside of Doc and having to rely on the bodiless Lopez, he wasn't so much "A threat to the galaxy" as he was really irritating, especially in comparison to later antagonists, such as [[TheJuggernaut The Meta]], Project Freelancer, and Charon Industries. But, as the Omega-based split personality inside of Doc tells Felix…
-->"Oh, please. I'm the ''original'' bad boy. Muhahaha."
* TakeOverTheWorld: A hilarious parody of this type of villain in ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles''. Works especially well when he's in the body of a pacifist.
* TokenEvilTeammate: For the AIs, he's the most focused on bloodlust, murder, and omnicide for no real reason other than he can. However, Wyoming and Texas (implicitly acting on behalf of the Project) ''can'' aim him to work for their goals.
* TookALevelInKindness:
** Downplayed. He's not exactly what you'd call ''pleasant'' in ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles'', but he's far more sociable than the grim sadist he's shown to have started out as in ''The Project Freelancer Saga''.
** PlayedStraight with Epsilon-Omega. He's still as murderous and rage-filled as ever, but he seems to genuinely want to help Church, even if his "help" boils down to getting him to give into his rage. He even backs off when Church tells him to, simply saying "I‘ll be here if you need me."
* UnstoppableRage: He's literally formed from the Alpha's rage.
* VillainDecay: Inverted. During the Blood Gulch Chronicles he's a LaughablyEvil HarmlessVillain. Starting in Season 6 he's portrayed as far more dangerous with a recount of how he drove an outpost of simulation troopers to kill each other.
* VillainousLegacy: Even after death, some of his personality still remains in Caboose, who can manifest it when angry. Eventually, Doc's O'Malley personality comes back as well after being trapped in limbo from the teleportation grenade.
* TheWorfEffect: After serving as the main villain of ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles'' and murdering an entire outpost of simulation troopers in ''Reconstruction'', Omega is taken out and absorbed by the Meta offscreen.

[[folder:Gamma]]
!Gamma (Gary)
[[quoteright:220:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/220px-Gamma_AI_Season_10_3981.png]]
-->'''Voiced By:''' [[SyntheticVoiceActor Mac OS X Fred]], Microsoft Sam (''Restoration'')
-->'''Attribute:''' [[ManipulativeBastard Deceit]]

->''"Knock-knock."''

Encountered by the Red and Blue Teams in the form of an ancient computer built by the aliens as an expert on humans, who then proceeds to warn them about a vague prophecy. They eventually figure out that Gary is really Gamma, Wyoming's [=AI=] (the name "Gary" is a portmanteau of "Gamma" and "Reginald", and [[WordOfGod Burnie Burns has revealed]] the it is the same name of his late cat). Gamma was evidently the personification of the Alpha [=AI's=] deceit, and is described as having removed itself from Wyoming, with potentially harmful results. In the end, they reunite during their attempt to kidnap Junior. Gamma was another one of those [=AIs=] recovered by the Meta during ''Reconstruction''. It had a strange fondness for knock-knock jokes.
----
!!Associated Tropes:
* AffablyEvil: Initially seems to be this, especially as "Gary". He seems to be hospitable and willing to help the Blues, only to for it to be revealed he was Wyoming's A.I. and was far more interested in torturing Alpha Church than helping him.
* AIIsACrapshoot: However, this is less of a problem to his operator than to others he comes in contact with.
* BaldOfEvil: He's basically a blue, laggy twin to Sigma.
* CatchPhrase: [[KnockKnockJoke "Knock-knock."]]
* ColdBloodedTorture: Burnie Burns has revealed that the entire "time travel" aspect of Season 3 was just an instantaneous torture scenario built by Gamma for the Alpha.
* ConsummateLiar: Lies ''constantly''. It's honestly unclear how much, if anything, of what he's saying is true.
* CreepyMonotone: Him literally being voiced by a computer gives off this effect.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: After being a major supporting character throughout ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles'', he gets assimilated offscreen by the Meta, is mentioned a grand total of once throughout the entire season, and killed by the EMP with little fanfare.
* EpicFail: Upon encountering Church in Season 3 after splitting off from him for so long, he immediately tries to torture Church via impossible to succeed time travel scenarios, only for Church to eventually have his own revelation and move forward to accept what would happen with his TrueCompanions. He wasn't even aware he was being tortured in the first place.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He seems to actually be upset by Wyoming's death (see LittleNo below)
* EvilAllAlong: Same with Vic, more or less.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: The reason his torture on Church in season 3 fails: He spent so much time crafting scenarios where Church is destined to only fail in whatever he tries to do that there's no attempt to stop him when Church accepts whatever happens happens and chooses to remain with his TrueCompanions. The reveal that Church is an AI based on the Director (who was obsessed with recreating his late wife ''as'' Texas) sheds some light as to ''why'' Gamma thought it would even work in the first place.
* EvilGenius: For O'Malley, Wyoming and Vic, arguably. While he is good at manipulating and planning, much like his operator, he seems rather poor on coming up with doing things on the fly, Shiela even says he's not terribly smart after being tricked and captured.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: The second type, though his jokes are just corny instead of being twisted.
* FaceHeelTurn: Tortured the Alpha along with Sigma and Omega after being split from him.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Eventually turns out to be this. Acts polite and well mannered. Ends up being a rather cold A.I. that has no problem in killing people who trusted him, or immediately attempting to torture the Alpha upon meeting him after presumably years.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: In "Out of Mind", York refers to the fact that "Reginald" always told stupid knock knock jokes in reference to the merger between A.I.s and their partners. Astute viewers will take this, the fact that York says "Speak of the Devil" after Wyoming is mentioned, and the fact that "O'Malley" is a portmanteau of Tex's real name (Allison) and Omega, in order to realize that the time bending, knock-knock joke spouting A.I. Gary is actually Wyoming's partner.
* ForTheEvulz: There was no reason for him to put Church through a time-travelling scenario, convincing him that he could avert the events of the series. He just did it to be a jackass.
* HeelFaceTurn: Epsilon-Gamma is implied to have made one in Season 12, since he assists Church during his only scene in the season.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: Even after everything has concluded, Gamma's motives through the story remain unclear. Was he planning to become a part of the Meta from the start? Was he as dedicated to winning the Human-Covenant war as Wyoming was? Was he just doing random things ForTheEvulz? We might never know.
* KickTheDog: Killed Caboose at least once, despite posing no real threat to him. And was the one who make Church suffer the mental breakdown that created Epsilon.
* LaughablyEvil: Even the supercomputer, but only in ''The Blood Gulch Chronicles''.
* LittleNo: When Tucker stabs Wyoming.
--> '''Gamma:''' ''Reggie.''
* ManipulativeBastard: Personification of deceit, after all. He fools the Blues pretty thoroughly into thinking he's a harmless computer. It's even worse when he and Sigma are working together.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Twice.
** Him pushing Alpha as far as he could by crossing lines not even the Director would want him to take resulted in Epsilon, who scarred Washington as he tried to kill himself, and in turn set the chips that would cause the downfall of Project Freelancer.
** His time travel scenario in season 3 fails in making Church insane, but instead causes him to go through a bit of CharacterDevelopment, and allows Church to later piece together that the machine that had spent so much time with him must have had alternative motives.
* {{Portmanteau}}: Gary is a mix of Gamma and Reginald (Ga-Re), it's also the name of Burnie Burns' late cat.
* RobotBuddy: A rare example of him being both this ''and'' AIIsACrapshoot. Upon splitting from the Alpha, he began torturing him alongside Sigma and Omega, and is overall malicious. However, he's [[AffablyEvil rather nice]] around Church while in his fake thousands of years of a StableTimeLoop, to the point of them spending a lot of time telling jokes to each other. He is also upset, saying the birth name of his operator (rather than CodeName), when said operator's last known StableTimeLoop created copy dies. When Epsilon is shown working with the LivingMemory duplicates he made of the Alpha's fragments in season 12, he visibly distrusts Sigma and Omega but trusts Gamma enough to give him a job to do.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Shares this with Omega and Sigma. While he can be useful when he feels like it, he's the only AI interested in torturing the Alpha rather than having apathy (Omega) or a desire to become whole once more (Sigma). Further more, while he manipulates Carolina with [[ManipulativeBastard Sigma]], and helps [[WellIntentionedExtremist Wyoming]], it's unknown how much he knows about the former's plan, or how much he cares about the latter's plan.
* {{Troll}}: Put Church through a time-traveling scenario just to screw with him.
* VillainousFriendship: Heavily implied by his anguish at Wyoming's chronologically final copy dying.
* VillainTeamUp: With Sigma as of the flashback in Episode 13 of Season 10.
* WriteWhoYouKnow: InUniverse. The reason why the original A.I. of [[TankGoodness Sheila]] is named F.I.L.S.S. in the "time travel" plot of Season 3 is because that is the name of the A.I. in what Gamma remembers from Project Freelancer, who has the same voice.

An [=AI=] formed from the Alpha's logic centers, and as a result has a [[TheSpock cool and calculating personality]], calmly informing his partner of attackers' locations and running the numbers to predict their behavior. He starts out as York's AI, but after the ''Out of Mind'' side arc, he ends up working with Agents South Dakota and Washington during the ''Recovery One'' series, and is introduced to the Blues during ''Reconstruction''. Of all the Freelancer [=AIs=], Delta is the most fervent believer in the existence of the Alpha, and leaves clues that inspire Washington to try to unlock it. Presumed destroyed after being captured by the Meta, who in turn was hit by the E.M.P. His holographic avatar is bright green.

''Recreation'' reveals that Epsilon houses memories of all the Alpha fragments. Delta appears to give advice and information on their behalf to Caboose. He also was transferred into the Forerunner Monitor along with Epsilon. Whether he is still exists as a separate consciousness or has been fully assimilated into Epsilon has yet to be revealed.
----
!!Associated Tropes:
* ArtShift: Averted. No matter which format the videos are being made in, Delta is filmed using Halo: Combat Evolved footage. Particularly evident in later seasons.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: He tends to focus on whatever produces the most logical, optimal, and courteous result. He'll do things like wish an enemy good luck, attempt to talk one into helping with a WhatIsEvil speech, suggest ShootTheDog solutions, or even outright admit he may side with the enemy... while simultaneously performing acts of aid, kindness, self-sacrifice, and loyalty to his allies and bystanders as well. All with a blandly friendly, sincere, and non-malicious demeanor.
* BreakoutCharacter: At this point, Delta has received the most screen time of any AI character (excluding Church and Tex). He's incredibly popular among both the staff and the fans, and some form of him has appeared at least once a season since ''Reconstruction'', despite being technically killed off at the end of said season.
* CharacterDevelopment: As Season 10 and Out of Mind show, Delta went from a rather dry witted personality that was often InnocentlyInsensitive to a more DeadpanSnarker who would contemplate human emotion and have a much less stilted understanding of humans themselves.
* TheComicallySerious: His stoic demeanor makes for some funny moments when he talks with the Reds and Blues and the Freelancers, who don't take themselves nearly as seriously as he does. His conversation with Church as [[FunnyBackgroundEvent Washington is disposing South's corpse]] is an example of this.
* CrazyPrepared: In order to make sure he survives if 479er makes a fatal crash in Episode 8 of Season 10, he makes a backup of himself.
-->'''Four Seven Niner:''' [[OhCrap Wait a second, why did you just blink like that?]]\
'''Delta:''' [[BlatantLies That was just a standard maintenance routine.]]\
'''Four Seven Niner:''' [[WhatTheHellHero Dude! Did you just make a backup of yourself?]]\
'''Delta:''' Confidence is one thing, but it is always prudent to prepare for failure.
* DeadpanSnarker: More deadpan and less snarky than York, but it's still definitely there.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Is completely unfamiliar with Washington when he stumbles upon York's corpse, listing his incident with Epsilon rather than hinting at familiarity like he did with Texas.
* EpicFail: In his last battle, York tells Delta to watch his bad (left) side, which he agrees to. Now guess which side York gets shot on that ultimately leads to his death not two minutes later?
* FaceDeathWithDignity: What he believed he was doing when he chose to stay with York as he died, he's quite surprised to discover this is not the case.
* FaceHeelTurn: Forced into one when he is incorporated by the Meta.
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: When speaking to Caboose, Epsilon takes on Delta's form for this purpose. [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Caboose being Caboose]], though, the effect is somewhat for nothing.
* GentlemanSnarker: Always polite, but always a snarker.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Suggests that Washington kill South after her ChronicBackstabbingDisorder becomes fully apparent.
* InSeriesNickname: "D", especially by [[VitriolicBestBuds York]].
* LudicrousPrecision: Has a habit of doing this at times with automatic unit conversion. Also, according to York in Season 10, he finds running probabilities in his head to be fun.
* MrExposition: Justified as he's made of logic and thus inclined to provide exposition.
* NiceGuy: Though he does sometimes give York a hard time, he's even nice to his supposed enemies, unless they try to sell him out personally.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite being stoic, Delta is one who doesn't turn down the chance at revenge, opting to go after Wyoming despite the fact only his agent had been harmed by the former's previous actions. He also opts to ''kill'' South at the first possible opportunity after she had planned to betray him.
* NotSoStoic: Has one of the "protocol violated alert" sort of moments when South ends up shooting Wash in the back.
* OddFriendship: He develops one with Church in ''Reconstruction''; the two tend to get along and agree on everything, which is a miracle for Church, who at this point still loathed A.I.s. It becomes far less odd after TheReveal Church is the Alpha, who Delta practically sees as a god.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Delta is openly and uncharacteristically sad right before Church makes his HeroicSacrifice in Season 13, and tries to talk him out of it.
* {{Revenge}}: Surprisingly, he's a rather big fan of this.
* TheSpock: The Alpha's logic.
* TheStoic: He's not based on emotion, but logic.
* TheTapeKnewYouWouldSayThat: He left a recording for Church in Caboose's memories, using logic to predict Church's responses. Including his inanity in trying to test that.
--> '''Church:''' Oh, reall-\
'''Delta:''' Yes, really.\
'''Church:''' Okay. I like cheeseburgers.\
'''Delta:''' Stop trying to test me.\
'''Church:''' Empire State Building.\
'''Delta:''' Seriously, stop.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: South and Delta easily have one of the least functional partnerships in the series: Neither particularly like each other or trusts their judgement, only barely working together because of the situation they were put in.
* TinMan: For someone who's supposed to be pure emotionless logic, he's immensely helpful, courteous, capable of great kindnesses, and even self-sacrifice for no other reason than to care for his dying owner. He's also one hell of a GentlemanSnarker.
* TranquilFury: While it is really difficult to tell with Delta, what he says after South's plan on abandoning him failed shows that he ''vehemently'' disliked her plan to leave him behind.
* UndyingLoyalty: When York is mortally injured, Delta stays to administer painkillers until York dies instead of going with Tex, even though at the time he and Tex thought it would mean Delta's own erasure as well.
* UnreliableNarrator: It is established that Delta is one of the few A.I. that can actually lie, and can skew information in his favor, both of these make it unsure how reliable a source of information Delta actually is.
* VitriolicBestBuds:
** He and York love to have snarky conversations with each other, but it's based out of affection and York's naturally snarky nature.
** He and Epsilon-Church also have this dynamic, since the two of them love good-naturedly ribbing on each other.
* WeHaveReserves: Like Lopez years later, he makes backup copies of himself in case of the death of those around him.
* WhatTheHellHero: 479er lays this on him for his CrazyPrepared behavior ''right in front of her''.
-->'''Four Seven Niner''': That's a dick move, green guy.\
'''Delta''': I apologize if I have offended you.\
'''Four Seven Niner''': [[PunctuatedForEmphasis Dick. Move.]]

[[caption-width-right:309:''"Ideas are some of our most potent weapons."'']]
-->'''Voiced By:''' Creator/ElijahWood
-->'''Attribute:''' Creativity/[[AmbitionIsEvil Ambition]]

->''"Well, as the Director always says, it is important to have ambition."''

Little was known about Sigma until he made his debut in Season 10, voiced by Creator/ElijahWood (yes, [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings that]] Elijah Wood). In the season, it is revealed that he was originally Carolina's AI partner, but was transferred to Maine after Maine had his throat shot out in Season 9 as a way of helping Maine communicate by being his voice for him. We also discover that he's the reason Maine eventually had a FaceHeelTurn, and that Sigma is responsible for most, if not all of the Meta's actions throughout ''The Recollection''.
----
!!Associated Tropes:
* AffablyEvil: Seems to have a favorable relationship with Carolina prior to becoming FauxAffablyEvil and causing the Meta incidents.
* AIIsACrapshoot: His ambition get ''really'' out of hand.
* AmbitionIsEvil: He's the personification of Alpha's creativity and ambition.
* ArcVillain: He's retroactively revealed to be TheManBehindTheMan for the Meta in ''Reconstruction'', and is this during the Season 9 and 10 flashbacks.
* TheAssimilator: He becomes this after finally turning Maine into the Meta. He obtains the other fragments and somehow bends them to his will, forcing them into going along with his plan to obtain metastability.
* BaldOfEvil: Similar to Maine, the person whom he possess.
* BecomeARealBoy: His goal in life is to achieve metastability, which, to quote the ''Franchise/{{Halo}}'' wikis, is the "theoretical fourth stage of rampancy, where an AI can finally be said to be a true 'person.'" However, given how he goes about achieving this, it's hard to feel sympathetic. Lampshaded by Aiden Price when asked about the Meta by Locus.
-->'''Locus''': When you said that Maine performed at his best when controlled by Sigma, then the Meta strove to be the perfect weapon.
-->'''Price''': You're mistaken in assuming Sigma's definition of "perfection". The Meta never wanted to be a weapon. The Meta wanted to be human.
* BigBad: Is this for ''Reconstructon'' as he is the one controlling the Meta and is reason for his attacks on the Freelancers and the AI stealing. Oddly enough, his status as this is only revealed long after his death.
* BondBreaker: Responsible for South betraying North. His manipulation of Carolina indirectly led to her fight with York.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: He gradually inflicted this on Maine until he became the Meta, and it's implied that he did this to the other A.I. fragments to get them to help in his efforts to achieve metastability.
* BrightIsNotGood: Has an orange avatar, but definitely not good.
* TheChessmaster: Before he even get's his first line of screentime, he's already taking steps to achieving his goal of metastability. He was originally assigned to Carolina, but he manipulates her compassion and competitiveness so that she'll give him to Maine, a Freelancer who will be much easier to corrupt. Later Sigma and Gamma are shown persuading Carolina into using two [=AIs=] at once, which she plans to use on Tex, allowing Sigma to analyze and test the affects of having multiple A.I's in one body. They were most likely banking on Carolina being weak enough after the battle for Sigma to possess Maine and take her out, thus acquiring both of her A.I's at very little personal risk.
* TheCorrupter: Sigma is really good at being this. He manipulates Carolina so her worst traits start coming out and consuming her to help with his plans, and whatever he did to Maine and the other fragments, it thoroughly bent them to his will and made them go along with his mad quest.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Can be seen and is killed in ''Reconstruction'' along with all of the other [=AIs=] that the Meta possessed, and is mentioned offhand by Washington as Alpha's "creativity" earlier.
* EvilIsBurningHot: His avatar looks like it's made of fire.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Has a noticeable deeper undertone to everything he says.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Though he was originally just AffablyEvil, his politeness with Carolina only makes it more horrifying when he attempts to murder her in cold blood.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: His eyes sure help with his ObviouslyEvil look.
* GreaterScopeVillain: While he's only directly manipulating BigBad in ''Reconstruction'', he could also be considered this for ''Recreation'' and ''Revelation'' - while dead, his influence over the Meta remains. He's also responsible for Carolina receiving two AI fragments and losing her mind, Washington receiving Epsilon and losing ''his'' mind, South not receiving a fragment and betraying North, and the overall cause of the fall of Project Freelancer.
* InkSuitActor: Downplayed example, but the animation team explicitly said they modeled his face to resemble Elijah Wood's a little more.
* {{Irony}}: Sigma pursued the concept of metastability, but the process of his actions eventually led to Epsilon becoming metastable instead of the Meta, according to WordOfGod. Sigma was also killed in the process. Doubly ironic in that each Greek letter in the Meta's symbol is associated with one of the fragments -- but the letter Epsilon is not included.
* TheManBehindTheMan: To the Meta, whom he controlled.
* ManipulativeBastard: Especially when working with Gamma.
* MeaningfulName: His name could be a reference to mathematics, where the Greek letter Sigma represents the sum of an equation. The term "Meta" derives from Sigma's obsession with the fourth stage of AI Rampancy, Metastability, in which an AI can be considered fully sentient.
* MouthOfSauron: Subverted, in a sense. He was given to Maine by Carolina in order to let him still be able to communicate after his throat was damaged beyond repair, but recent information has let us know that it is really Sigma who is in charge, not Maine.
* NonActionBigBad: While Sigma was behind everything Maine did as the Meta (at least up until the end of ''Reconstruction''), he involves himself in combat and other direct physical actions much less than the other Freelancer A.I.s, even taking a break to "bad touch" Delta while Maine is busy fighting the Insurrectionist elites.
* NothingIsScarier: It's never stated ''how'' he gets the other Freelancer A.I.s to go along with his mad quest to become human. Delta's comments imply Sigma could make them BrainwashedAndCrazy, but there's also evidence to suggest it could be an AndIMustScream situation. And that's what makes it terrifying.
* ObviouslyEvil: In addition to appearing as a man engulfed by flames with GlowingEyesOfDoom, Sigma speaks very ominously and notoriously ignores the A.I. protocols. Really, his rebellion should have came as no surprise. Lampshaded by York and Wash, who admit that they find him creepy.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Has creepy red eyes and is behind the Meta.
* RuleOfSymbolism: In somewhat archaic Talmudic lore, the ''Meta''tron is a very high ranking angel, said to be second only to God himself, paralleling the Meta and it's nature in relation to the Alpha.
* StartOfDarkness: Seems to have been the AI coursework, where he learned and became curious about the Metastability stage.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Sigma only physically appears in a handful of scenes of Season 10, but his actions, specifically his hold over Maine and his interest in metastability, not only kicks off the actions of the Meta, but the initial collapse of Project Freelancer that caused the Alpha to be relocated to Blood Gulch, where the series began.
* TokenEvilTeammate: He's even worse than Omega and Gamma in this regard. Gamma at least shows loyalty to certain people like Wyoming, and Omega is just blindly motivated by rage and megalomania and can be pointed to work towards at least somewhat constructive goals, whereas Sigma holds no loyalty to anyone and his actions are just completely monstrous.
* [[UnnecessarilyCreepyRobot Unnecessarily Creepy AI]]: Most AIs have holograms modeled on Mjolnir armor. His resembles a man on fire, and he has VoiceOfTheLegion. It's like he was designed to be ObviouslyEvil.
* VillainTeamUp: He and Gamma convinced Carolina to accept an AI. It's unclear how much Gamma knows about Sigma's plan to achieve metastability; and though they both mention Omega, there's no indication whether he's in on the plan as well, though he does help in the fracturing of the Alpha alongside them.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: It's not too noticeable, but it's a hint that he's no good.
* WhamLine: In Episode 19 of Season 10, [[TrailersAlwaysSpoil though the second half was stated out of context in the Season 10 teaser]]:
-->'''Sigma''': You run, Agent Texas. We are the Meta. And we will find you, very soon.
* WreathedInFlames: He certainly looks this way.

-->'''Attribute:''' [[ChildrenAreInnocent Inner Child]]/[[ThePowerOfTrust Trust]]

->''"I don't know. There's so many of them. And they're so... big."''

Theta is North's AI, and represents the Alpha's trust, with a very shy and child-like demeanor and voice to match. Appearance-wise he looks like one of the standard armored soldiers similar to Delta, but done up in bright neon red and purple and with a higher range of movement. North seems to treat him like a proud daddy would treat his son.
----
!!Associated Tropes:
* AmbiguousSituation: Notably, unlike Delta, Theta was labeled a threat and North was ''not'' supposed to have him around afterwards but did so anyway. Who Theta developed into overtime while on the run from the project is left unclear, especially since the Meta wound up nabbing him shortly before ''Recovery One''.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Rather than pay attention during the AI class, he's playing around with a skateboard. Though to be fair, the class seems to be more for the Freelancers themselves.
* BadassAdorable: Very capable of badass battle strategy and calculations. Very ridiculously cute.
* ChildProdigy: A childlike AI who is also a BadassAdorable.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: He knows about the true nature of the AI fragments, but doesn't realize what it is.
* ChildSoldier: The darker, more disturbing flipside of Theta's BadassAdorable qualities. Most prominent in the episode of his introduction, Episode 5 of Season 10.
* TheConscience: Epsilon's memory of Theta seems to serve as his conscience, urging him to apologize after he snaps at Tucker.
* CreepyChild: Inverted. Theta is shy and lovable, which throws the utter creepiness of his origins into even sharper relief. Well, until he becomes part of the Meta. There was a creepy child voice quite prominent in Reconstruction speaking through Maine.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Like Sigma above, Theta can be seen right out front with the other AI's the Meta had captured in reconstruction.
* EmbodimentOfVirtue: Unlike the other AIs, which represent either a negative or a neutral trait, Theta embodies trust and shows it by being easily the nicest member of his "family".
* FaceHeelTurn: Forced into one when he's assimilated by the Meta.
* TheKlutz: Downplayed, but he is shown in episode 6 of season 10 having a hard time balancing on a holographic skateboard.
* MoralityPet: He is implied to be this to Epsilon-Church. Church is surprisingly friendly towards Theta, and Theta is briefly shown bluntly telling him to apologize to Tucker for abandoning him back in Season 11.
* NiceGuy: Theta is the friendliest of the fragments, being a good-natured ShrinkingViolet.
* ThePowerOfTrust: He is the manifestation of the Alpha's Trust.
* ShrinkingViolet: Tries to hide behind North when being shown to Wash and the others. He only really speaks freely to Delta and North. He's also violet.

-->'''Attribute:''' Fear (Eta), Happiness (Iota)

->''"Allison..."''

Eta and Iota are the two AI fragments implanted in Agent Carolina. Eta and Iota were originally planned to be implanted in Agents South Dakota and Washington. They are also the first two AIs to be incorporated alongside Sigma to create the Meta.
----
!!Associated Tropes:
* {{The Quiet One}}s: Unlike other AIs, Eta and Iota only speak one line of dialogue in the series unless one counts them in Season 6.
* SingleMindedTwins: They were applied to Carolina together, and so are only seen acting in tandem. Epsilon calls them "the twins" in his own versions of them in Season 12.
* {{Synchronization}}: With each other, Carolina, the other fragments, and, apparently, the Director and the Sarcophagus. The movement of their avatars mirrors Carolina's when she's reeling in pain.
* UnknownCharacter: Their implantation in Carolina ended up causing a whole host of problems for her, Wash, and South (and arguably Maine and Tex as well), collectively setting off the entire plot of the entire (non-flashback) series; and yet despite this plot significance, they have to date received only a single line and were killed off without any character interaction. Until the release of the 2015 fan guide, we didn't even know which one was which, or what their attributes were.
