[[folder: Jubey]]

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jubey_square.png]]

The so-called fairy that the Pleiades Saints and other magical girls in Asurano contracted with to become magical girls. He fulfills wishes in exchange for magical girls deciding to fight Witches. He's overall friendly to the Pleiades Saints and has the ability to purify their Soul Gems from corruption.
----
* AmbiguouslyEvil: As an incubator in the franchise, it's unclear how good Jubey actually is. [[spoiler:Jubey is completely good and has no ill-will towards any magical girl or human, even incapable of seeing or hearing Kyubey himself.]]
* BodyHorror: [[spoiler:His death involves him incapable of purifying Kazumi's Soul Gem and beginning to crumble into pieces. He says a simple 'Ciao' to Kazumi with his standard grin before dissolving into nothing.]]
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: As an incubator, his morality tends to be a bit askew. [[spoiler:Subverted, as Jubey is an artificially created incubator meant to be subservient to the Pleiades Saints and genuinely cares for their well-being.]] He retains an almost non-chalant attitude towards horrific events [[spoiler:like his own death]].
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being an incubator that has a dark body and dark ears, compared to most of the purely-white incubators seen in the franchise, Jubey seems to genuinely care for the magical girls he contracts with.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Dislikes Satomi call him Bey-chan or Niko calling him Beyyan.
* ExpressiveHair: Exactly what they are is unclear, but he does use these appendages to form various shapes, including cupping them into a thumb and forefinger thinking pose under his chin.
* TheFairFolk: Described as a fairy (妖精), which could be a nod towards an early concept of the [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica original anime]] referring to the contract-making creatures as such. The official English localization instead used 'mystical creature' or 'sprite'.
* FakeMemories: [[spoiler:Less his own memories and more the magical girls he interacts with. The Pleiades Saints cast a spell that made the real incubators invisible to everyone in Asurano and they used one of Kyubey's corpses to create Jubey as a human-compliant incubator substitute.]]
* HeelFaceBrainwashing: Midway through the series, there's a scene showing that Umika rewrote Jubey's memories to ensure he won't form anymore contracts and making him compliant to the Pleiades Saints. [[spoiler:Said event iself is faked, as the real version of the event involved Saki bludgeoning the current body of Kyubey into a wall.]]
* MakeAWish: Will fulfill a wish to a girl that has the potential to become a magical girl, if she's willing to fight Witches in exchange. [[spoiler:Since he's not a real incubator, he never actually had this ability.]]
* MeaningfulName: His full name is revealed to be Juzoku Suru Incubator. [[spoiler:'The incubator that follows us', named so after Niko created him from Kyubey's corpse and ensured he would only work for the Pleiades Saints.]]
* TheMedic: Has the ability to absorb the corruption from Soul Gems and purifying them, which makes him the only incubator to be able to do so. [[spoiler:Turns out to not be the case, as he can't actually absorb the corruption and the gem-cleaning 'program' built into him merely makes Soul Gems ''look'' purified, despite being just as corrupted as before.]]
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Jubey seems rather proud of his duty under the Pleiades Saints, compared to Kyubey seeing humans more as livestock to make use of.
* MysteriousWatcher: Watches the Pleiades Saints from afar in Chapter 3, before being properly introduced in Chapter 4.
* NumericalThemeNaming: In Japanese, 'Ju' is the pronunciation for the number ten. In the same vein, 'Kyu' is how number nine is pronounced, leaving '''Ju'''bey and '''Kyu'''bey in ascending order.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Gets called Jubey for most of the series instead of his full name.
* PerpetualSmiler: Subverted, as Jubey seems rather expressive compared to other incubators. [[spoiler:Despite being made up of an actual incubator's corpse, Jubey being artificial means he can display, if not understand, emotions.]]
* RogueDrone: [[spoiler:Not only is he made up of the corpse of an incubator and therefore already cut off from the incubator hive mind, but his ability to feel emotions would also have him considered insane by their standard.]]
* SlasherSmile: Likes to display these, though they tend to be more a quirk than an actual sign of danger on his part. [[spoiler:It's even the teeth-bearing grin he gives Kazumi before disappearing completely.]]
* SleepCute: Alongside the cat Toto in Chapter 4.
* WeaselMascot: The incubator following the main magical girl group around, including having the unique ability to purify their Soul Gems. [[spoiler:Subverted, in that this is a fake incubator built by Niko and Kyubey's corpse, and doesn't actually have the power to purify Soul Gems.]]

[[quoteright:285:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/madoka_end_card_7.jpg]]

The well-known incubator from the [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica original anime]]. He can be seen in various panels throughout the story, but doesn't personally step in until near the climax of the series.
----
* ArcWelding: His presence reveals that this series takes place in the same universe as the original anime.
* BenevolentGenie: As much as Kyubey can be.
** When Michiru wishes for her grandmother to wake up until her natural lifespan runs out, Kyubey reminds her that she could wish to cure her grandmother's illness instead and why she doesn't do so. But when Michiru explains that, much as she would like to, it would go against her grandmother's way of life, Kyubey grants the wish anyway.
** When Kazumi wishes to become a normal human, Kyubey tells her that her wish is actually pointless because the wish would turn her into a human, then immediately into a magical girl -- and therefore no longer a 'normal' human. But he grants the wish, anyway.
* ChekhovsGunman: His appearances are not merely cameos or nods to the original series. He was actually the incubator that the Pleiades Saints and other magical girls in Asurano contracted with.
* FaceFramedInShadow: Throughout Chapter 5, Kyubey can be seen as a silhouette behind a curtain or in the shadow cast from a streetlight, never showing the full form. His silhouette can also be seen behind [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Mami]], during her cameo appearance.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: He's only seen partly in shadow, but a close-up of his face starts off Chapter 4, and he says, "I wonder if you'll do so well ''this time''?" Kyubey knows that Kazumi is one of Michiru's clones and likely knows what happened to the previous ones.
* GreaterScopeVillain: He formed contracts with Airi and Hijiri, allowing for the first and final climax of the series to occur.
* TheManBehindTheMan: Aside from being part of the incubators that set up the rigged magical girl system, Kyubey is also the one to have contracted with Airi, creating the Yuuri-affair, and Hijiri, resulting in her attempting to destroy mankind.
* ManipulativeBastard: He states in simple terms what happened to Yuuri and what Niko's wish was, which is how Airi became distraught enough to wish to become Yuuri and Hijiri broke enough to contract with him, setting up her plan to kill all of humankind and have them replaced with artificial creations.
* MysteriousWatcher: Can be seen in shadows or silhouettes across most of the series. It turns out that nobody can actually see or hear him, due to a spell the Pleiades Saints cast.
* MythologyGag: After Saki smacks Kyubey's body against a wall until it dies, the next body for Kyubey appears and mentions humans always killing his previous bodies, calling back to how [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Homura has killed Kyubey often in the span of crossing timelines]].
* RetGone: Due to a spell the Pleiades Saints casts over Asurano, nobody with the potential for magical-girl-ness can see or hear an incubator. The spell breaks near the climax.

[[quoteright:151:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tachibanaparfaityuuriandairi.png]]

The man that held the suitcase that Kazumi was stored inside of in the first chapter. He used to own a bistro and intended to plant a bomb in the mall it was in because of a bad business deal, but events caused the bombing to not happen.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: He's first introduced as a chef that lost his bistro in a bad business deal. Chapter 5 shows that he was one of the finalists in a cooking competition and he was up against Yuuri, who didn't appear in time and he won by default.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Lost his shop in a bad business deal and decided he wanted to pay them back by bombing the entire mall where his store was located.
* TheOneGuy: The sole male human in the series.
* PutOnABus: Went off-screen after the bombing failed, but he did keep popping in for minor scenes.
* SupremeChef: His cooking is amazing, with Kazumi even getting him to add new things to his menus. She also teaches him how to cook her grandmother's strawberry risotto.

[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/455px_20120424175949bcd.jpg]]

The policewoman that actually set Tachibana up to take the fall for a bombing that she had planned. She was under the influence of an Evil Nut at the time, and the first pseudo-Witch that Kazumi fought and successfully defeated. She became a police officer to investigate the disappearance of a highschool friend of hers.
----
* TheCassandra: When Remi's little sister told her about how Remi had become a magical girl that was fighting evil Witches, Misako believed her. She tried to provide her supervisors with evidence of this being the cause of Remi's disappearance, but she was mocked and ignored.
* MuggleBestFriend: To her friend Remi, who became a magical girl in highschool and eventually disappeared.
* OneWingedAngel: While possessed by an Evil Nut, she ends up transforming into a [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/KazumiMagicaPreyingMantis_8959.png giant preying mantis kind of monster]].
* PrimAndProperBun: Keeps her hair up in a bun and gives off a professional appearance. She's been wearing her hair like this since school days.
* PutOnABus: She gets defeated by Kazumi and rid of the Evil Nut in the first chapter, but doesn't appear again until close to the final climax of the series.

[[folder: Hyades Daybreak '''Unmarked Spoilers''']]

[[caption-width-right:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chapter_22_dawn_spoiler.jpg]]

A Witch created by fusing several other Witches into one being, similar to Walpurgisnacht. She was created by Hijiri Kanna and connected to her, allowing the latter to control Hyades Daybreak's actions.
----
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: An incredibly large Witch that's similar in size to Walpurgisnacht herself. Downplayed in that it only takes three Magical Girls to kill her, whereas that probably wouldn’t be enough to defeat Walpurgis.
* DubNameChange: Played with, as Hyades Daybreak ''and'' Dawn Of Hyades both make sense and tie in with Walpurgisnacht herself. In Japanese, Walpurgisnacht is known as Walpurgis No Yoru (ワルプルギスの夜) and can be literally translated into 'Night of Walpurgis'. Similarly, this Witch is labelled Hyades No Yoake (ヒュアデスの暁) going by the Kanji. This would translate literally to 'Dawn of Hyades', with the official English localization using Hyades Daybreak to retain the Witch + Time Of Day theme.
* EldritchAbomination: Like all Witches, with Hyades being a giant, black mass that has a Witch-like form when Hijiri uses her Connect ability to string it together.
* FinalBoss: The final Witch threat in the series.
* ForTheEvulz: Her nature is simply 'destruction', intent on causing chaos and destroying everything in sight merely because she can.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: As an artificial Witch, she doesn't have an official name to begin with. But her being a fusion of multiple Witches leaves her very similar to Walpurgisnacht, who is also a collection of various Witches. Due to their similar nature, Kyubey decides to label this witch 'Hyades', after the name of the race of artificial humans that Hijiri wanted to create.
