The following page contains the monsters and creatures used various times in the light novel Overlord by the Great Tomb of Nazarick.

* UndyingLoyalty: Just like the [=NPCs=], POP monsters, mercenaries, and summons follow orders dutifully and without question.

One of Ainz's favorite summons, it is a massive undead warrior who can level entire cities in the New World.
----
* DeadGuyPuppet: Ainz's first attempt at summoning a Death Knight in the New World has its essence possess a Slane Theocracy soldier Ainz had just killed, which then grew into the Death Knight. Satoru notes that, in YGGDRASIL, summons just appeared out of thin air and didn't require any material, one of his first indications that magic in the New World doesn't universally follow the same standards. As little as a severed head can be used to create one.
* DualWielding: The similar Death Warrior trades the tower shield for a second sword.
* EliteMook: By New World standards, Death Knights are terrors capable of razing a city by themselves, despite being a fairly average summon in YGGDRASIL. The first Death Knight summoned by Ainz wipes out a company of soldiers effortlessly.
* ItCanThink: While they might seem like brutes at a glance and never speak, Death Knights are capable of thinking strategically and act with intent. When slaughtering the Slane Theocracy soldiers, they quickly realize it's only attacking those who run because it wants them to fight it. Against the Four Armaments, the Death Knight recognized that their leader's axe had a special ability and tested it by chucking a piece of debris in her direction, after which the Death Knight knew how to counter her attacks.
* LightningBruiser: While statistically serving as a StoneWall, they're this from the perspective of New Worlders. Level 25 offensive abilities in a world where 30 is considered legendary is more than enough for them to reduce nearly anything to a bloody smear from one attack, they can move with surprising speed considering their size, and are virtually indestructible even to the strongest of beings.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Death Knights wield massive tower shields that can stop most attacks cold.
* MundaneUtility: Ainz had a dozen of these terrible monsters serving as his wait staff for the Baharuth Emperor's visit to Nazarick. That Ainz could not only subjugate many of them (when their strongest mage couldn't control one), but considered the feat so trivial as to put them to use for menial tasks, served to demonstrate to the Empire that he was not to be trifled with.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: Despite their appearance, back in Yggdrasil, they're only mid-low level monsters that most enemies have no trouble dealing with, though because of its innate passive that ensures it to always take at least two hits to kill, it's a good meat shield. In the New World, because everything is much weaker, they are forces of destruction that can level entire cities.
* OddFriendship: One of them becomes Hamsuke's training partner and it's shown sleeping beside her after training.
* StoneWall: By YGGDRASIL standards, their defense is comparable to a level 40 being while their offensive abilities are around 25. Combined with their passive of always enduring a single attack regardless of its power, and Momonga has an excellent meat shield in his hand. In the New World however, this makes them very deadly threats especially in large enough numbers.
* TerrifyingRescuer: Justified. The first Death Knight created by Ainz was ordered to eliminate the Slane Theocracy knights specifically. As it mercilessly kills those knights, it's very understandable for the surviving Carne villagers to be terrified of it. They get over it after they meet Ainz, who has no intention of hurting the villagers.

Insectoid monsters who serve as guards in Nazarick. They are capable of invisibility and specialize in ambush attacks.
----
* AdaptationalSpeciesChange: The Light Novel describes these creatures as humanoid ninjas with eight limbs. The anime does away with both the "humanoid" and the "ninja" side of things, making them look like regular Giant Spiders with an ant-like body shape and GlowingEyesOfDoom.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: Giant anthropods, at least in the anime version.
* GiantSpider: In the anime, though the light novel describes them as humanoid.
* Invisibility: They use this power to ambush intruders and kill them by surprise in a single attack.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: In the light novel, they are humanoid monsters with spider limbs capable of making eight attacks simultaneously.
* VisibleInvisibility: In the anime, they are depicted as a transparent outline with glowing eyes so the viewer knows they're hanging out on the ceiling.

Monsters that act as private guards for people outside of Nazarick.
----
* LivingShadow: They exist in shadows and act as bodyguards or observers.

Elite skeletons with enchanted armor and weapons that defend Nazarick. Old Guarders are the weakest, followed by Elder and Master Guarders.
----
* CurbStompBattle: Green Leaf didn't stand much of a chance against a group of Old Guarders.
* DemBones: Appropriately enough, a skeletal lich's lair is guarded by skeleton warriors.
* EliteMooks: While they are not particularly elite by Nazarick standards, they are significantly above regular skeletons in terms of strength, wear enchanted items and wield magical weapons. They seem to be Nazarick's first "serious" line of defense, as the basic skeletons are almost nonthreatening to most adventurers. Even a single Old Guarder, on the other hand, is a match for a Mythril-ranked adventurer, and Elder and Master Guarders are even stronger.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: Their primary purpose is to guard Nazarick, though Ainz has occasionally taken them outside of it.
* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: Elder Guarders are distinguished from Old Guarders by their silvery plate armor. Master Guarders, the strongest variant and likely the strongest "free" monster in Nazarick, wear golden armor and red capes.
* ShockAndAwe: At least one Old Guarder is known to wield a lightning-enchanted warhammer. It is unknown whether others may have different enchantments on their weapons.
* WeHaveReserves: Unlike the more powerful denizens of Nazarick (who need to be resurrected using a ritual that consumes resources), these skeletons automatically respawn after a short period. Because they are also strong enough to be a serious threat to just about everything in the New World, Ainz makes a point of using them as Nazarick's first line of defense to avoid any potential casualties among more powerful [=NPCs=].

A demonic steed that Albedo can summon.
----
* AwesomeButImpractical: For Albedo. She has the ability to summon one, but can't ride it because bicorns can only be ridden by impure maidens. Albedo is a virgin, and because she is madly in love with Ainz and will not sleep with anyone else, while Ainz is physically incapable of doing so for obvious reasons, she has no immediate means of fixing the problem.Ainz could technically command her to have sex with someone else just so that one of her greatest assets in combat would stop being locked, but this would require knowing of the problem and assumes Ainz would be comfortable issuing such a command.
* CoolHorse: It looks extremely awesome and is level 100, which means that it's also extremely strong.
* HellishHorse: It looks like a black horse, but has horns like those of a demon and SuperStrength.
* OnlyTheChosenMayRide: As it's the opposite of a unicorn in every way, only non-virgins may ride it. If a virgin attempts to mount a bicorn, the creature is immediately drained of its energy.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: It would be SimpleYetAwesome if Momonga hadn't changed Albedo's settings for a goof. If he didn't, she'd have no problem riding the bicorn.
* VirginPower: Inverted, a virgin cannot ride this creature. Since Albedo will always be a virgin because of Momonga tampering with her settings before being transported into the New World, she can never ride the steed.

Goblins who wear red caps and wield scythes.
----
* StrongerThanTheyLook: Despite their small size, they are actually stronger than a Death Knight. The group that was summoned for Beta was around Level 43.

Undead that take the form of skeletal horses.
----
* AwesomeButImpractical: Back in YGGDRASIL, the Soul Eater's instant death breath attack is considered this. Since they almost always spawned in the game on-level, the chance of being instantly killed by one is near-zero, and thus an YGGDRASIL player has nothing to fear from them.
* TheDreaded: When Ainz deploys them in front if the Re-Estize Kingdom's army, all of them are terrified. According to them, three Soul Eaters entered a beastmen city to kill a hundred thousand.
* HellishHorse: They are monstrous undead that resemble horse-like skeletons that can destroy entire civilizations.
* OneHitKill: They have a breath attack that instantly kills everything in a single hit. Unfortunately back in YGGDRASIL, this is more of an AwesomeButImpractical ability, since they're almost always on-level, there's only a 1-100 chance for it to kill a player with it.
* MundaneUtility: After Ainz occupied E-Rantel and re-branded it as the Sorcerer Kingdom, the Slane Theocracy reports that he was summoning Soul Eaters to pull carriages. Everyone in the meeting was understandably shocked.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: They're just level 40 monsters back in YGGDRASIL and a reasonably-leveled player shouldn't have any issues dealing with them there. In the New World, they suddenly become catastrophic threats because everything is weaker.

A high-level monster summoned by the Super-tier spell "Ia Shub Niggurath". The number of Dark Young summoned is proportionate to the number of victims killed by the spell's initial damage.
----
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: They stand ten meters tall, enough to tower over the average building in a medieval setting.
* AwesomeButImpractical: In YGGDRASIL. In addition to the spell taking forever and a day to cast like other Super-tier spells, it requires a massive number of sacrifices to summon even a single Dark Young, requires them to be massed in a single area, and requires them to be weak enough to be killed by the spell to begin with. In the New World, however, its large area of effect and the presence of armies of squishy humans make it a great way to completely wipe out a large army of mooks in the flashiest way possible to drive in Ainz's superiority. As far as Ainz knows, nobody has ever been able to summon as many Dark Young in YGGDRASIL as he did in the New World.
* CombatTentacles: Their main means of offense, short of simply trampling enemies underfoot.
* EldritchAbomination: They look like black clusters of tentacles and gaping mouths on legs. Lore-wise, they are connected to Shub'niggurath, an eldritch entity referred to in the Literature/CthulhuMythos as "the dark goat in the woods with a thousand young". This explains their name, their incongruous bleating noises, and Ainz's nickname for them.
* IronicNickname: Nicknamed "adorable baby goats" by Ainz due to their goat bleats, despite being anything but adorable.
* LightningBruiser: Tough as nails, immensely strong, and - belying their ponderous, lumbering gait - fast enough to outrun warhorses at least. Ainz pointed this out by showing Gazef Stronoff was unable to even react to one of its attacks.
* OneManArmy: Each of these things could destroy a kingdom in the New World on its own. Ainz summoned five of them.

Ninja-like monsters that can be summoned.
----
* Ninja: Hanzo are ninja monsters that use stealth.

Shapeshifters that act when deception is needed, such as with replacing other people.
----
* FalseFlagOperation: They were used to impersonate the Pleiades battle maids during the EngineeredHeroics stunt between Ainz and Jaldabaoth. Furthermore, another Doppelgänger is found to have been
* Glamour: They use a type of passive magic to trick others into thinking that they're the person that they're impersonating.
* IdentityImpersonator: They can take the form of other beings that are below level 40. A Greater Doppelganger, on the other hand, can take the form of a being that is level 60.

Female vampires who are Shalltear's servants.
----
* NavelDeepNeckline: They wear low-cut gowns with V-necklines that reach their stomachs.

A trio of level 80+ demon emperors who serve Demiurge. They are Evil Lord Wrath, Evil Lord Greed and Evil Lord Envy.

----
* DemonLordsAndArchdevils: They are powerful demon lords who serve Demiurge.
* MookMaker: They are capable of summoning massive swarms of lesser demons, which they did under Demiurge's orders during Nazarick's false flag operation against Re-Estize.
* SevenDeadlySins: There are seven Evil Lords named after the seven deadly sins, but only Greed, Envy and Wrath are seen, and Wrath is the only one with an expanded role.

A demon emperor summoned by Demiurge to attack the Roble Holy Kingdom while using Demiurge's Jaldabaoth name in order to "peacefully" subdue it to the Sorcerer Kingdom.
----
* ArcVillain: He's the main "villain" of the Roble Holy Kingdom arc that was using Demiurge's false name to attack said Kingdom.
* DemonLordsAndArchdevils: He is one of the Evil Lords who serve Demiurge, who are all themed after the SevenDeadlySins. In his case, the sin he represents is Wrath.
* EngineeredHeroics: He's ordered to be in the receiving end of this by Demiurge and Ainz, so Ainz can kill him and claim to be a hero, giving him more power over the Roble Holy Kingdom.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: As an insult against the Roble Holy Kingdom, Jaldabaoth uses Calca's body as a bludgeoning weapon.
* HeroKiller:
** He killed Calca, the Holy Queen at the start of the Holy Kingdom arc by using her as a weapon just to show how horrible the entire situation is for them.
** Played with in case of Ainz. At one point he seemingly kills Ainz and gloats that the Sorcerer King lost because he used his powers to help humans. In actuality, Ainz ran mid-battle to see how people will react if news spreads out that he died.
* IdentityImpersonator: Shows up after Demiurge faked being knocked into a house as his "OneWingedAngel" form. In actuality, the Jaldabaoth demon lord is something else and is actually 20 levels lower than Demiurge (though still strong enough to kill most things in the New World).
* MagicallyIneptFighter: Despite containing a wide repertoire of magic spells, Evil Lord Wrath's magic stats are not that high because he's a warrior-type specializing in melee attacks, so his seemingly intimidating repertoire of magic attacks are actually pretty weak by the standards of a similarly-leveled entity.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: The fake Jaldabaoth is a level 84 Evil Lord Wrath that is significantly weaker than Demiurge and would be small potatoes for an experienced YGGDRASIL player. In the New World, it suddenly becomes an unstoppable force of destruction because the Holy Kingdom's strongest soldiers don't come anywhere close to its level.
* POWCamp: Occupies the Northern Holy Kingdom and recruits the worst of the Demi-humans to imprison and torture prisoners for him.
* Sadist: As a devil, he enjoys wrecking havoc and torturing humans before killing them. Particularly, he relishes in torturing and killing humans who believe they are powerful but are actually weak.
* ScissorsCutsRock: The Paladins of the Holy Kingdom and Remedios were specifically geared against Demons, and this thing still walks all over them. Justified, considering the Holy Kingdom Paladins (and Remedios) are extremely weak by YGGDRASIL standards and the Evil Lord Wrath is a level 80 NPC.
* WalkingWasteland: Near the end of the Holy Kingdom arc, he kills hundreds of soldiers just by walking around them while surrounding himself with a heat aura. Everyone present is understandably terrified.
