[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/niohmasamune.jpg]]
--> '''Voiced by''': Creator/HirokiTakahashi

The One Eyed Dragon, head of the Date clan and ruler of Oshu region. He was rumored to be stocking up a large amount of Amrita for a possible rebellion against the Tokugawa, but [[spoiler:he was actually being manipulated by Lady Maria for the safety of his land.]]
----
* AnimalMotifs: True to history, Masamune's heavily associated with dragons, with one of his Guardian Spirits being a dragon.
* DuelBoss: He returns in a side-mission in the ''Defiant Honor'' DLC, where he challenges William to another fight. Beating him gets you his Nuraihyon Spirit Guardian.
* DualWielding: On top of wielding two katana, he has ''two Guardian Spirits'' at his side, [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration which announces the expansion's feature of being able to equip two Spirits simulataneously]]. One of them is the Blue Dragon, fitting with Masamune's AnimalMotifs, while the other one is Nurarihyon, [[spoiler:which belonged to Kojuro before his passing]].
* EyepatchOfPower: Just like his historical counterpart; [[spoiler:similar to Nekomata, Masamune hides an Amrita crystal embedded in his eye socket]].
* HeelFaceTurn: After being defeated by William, he is convinced to join Ieyasu again to siege the Osaka Castle.
* HistoricalHeroUpgrade: His motivation in ''Nioh'' is to [[spoiler:secure more land for his men in the province of Tohoku]]. Contrast the historical Masamune who was [[EveryoneHasStandards harshly criticized by his contemporaries]] for [[UnfriendlyFire firing upon his own men]].
* HistoricalVillainUpgrade: Historically, Masamune was a noble, if HotBlooded, man of ambition who maintained a loyal, if sometimes, strained alliance with Ieyasu; he also supported those of the Christian faith, but only prohibited it because Ieyasu commanded thus. The Masamune of ''Nioh'' is an antagonist commanding a demonic army in ''Dragon of the North'', with an intention to eventually overthrow the Tokugawa.
* LightningBruiser: He's extremely quick and powerful when the player fights him, and that's ''before'' he uses any of his two Guardian Spirits.
* MoralityPet: Date Shigezane, his cousin and top general, absorbed Amrita to save Masamune from an ambush, a source of immense guilt for the latter when he becomes a {{Yokai}}. [[spoiler:Hanzo curing Shigezane is enough to get Masamune to return to the fold as a loyal vassal of Ieyasu]]. Shigenaga is another one, [[spoiler:due to being his mentor Kojuro's son, who Masamune swore to protect until he's ready to lead the Katakura clan]].
* RedBaron: "The One-Eyed Dragon"; MeaningfulName ensues when one of his Guardian Spirits is a dragon.

! Date Shigezane
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/niohshigenaga.jpg]]
--> '''Voiced by''': Creator/JojiNakata
----
* AnimalMotifs: Centipedes - On top of his yokai form being merged with a centipede and his Guardian Spirit being Bisha's Centipede, his armor features qualities resembling the carapace of a centipede, particularly his right arm. His helmet has a golden centipede ornament. And his ''odachi'''s sheath has a number of ornaments that resemble centipede parts.
* BigCreepyCrawlies
** His demonic form replaces his right arm with the body of a giant centipede, along with at least one more growing from his body.
** His Guardian Spirit, Bisha's Centipede, is exactly what it sounds like.
* BodyHorror: Upon absorbing Amrita to gain power, he fused himself with a demon, resulting in his half of his body being horrifically mutated. However, his mind appears to be still intact.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Especially as a {{Yokai}}, his voice becomes altered into a deep, flanged rumble.
* LightningBruiser: Despite his ugly transformation and hulking size, Shigezane moves ''insanely fast'', using his centipede-half to rapidly advance and pull surprisingly spry acrobatics with it, even if you manage to stack slowing debuffs on him. And even then, he'll quickly recover from them.
* LodgedBladeRecycling: In his Youkai form he has several katana stuck in his back and centipede arm, but not only they do not hinder him, but he can even pull one out and throw it at William.
* OneHandedZweihander: [[AccidentalPun No pun intended]]. Thanks to his demonic form and strength, he uses his ''[[{{BFS}} Odachi]]'' with his remaining arm with ease.
* UndyingLoyalty: For Masamune, going as far as turning himself into a monstrous half-youkai to stop William.

[[folder:Katakura Shigenaga]]
! Katakura Shigenaga
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/niohshigezane.jpg]]
--> '''Voiced by''': Creator/{{KENN}}
----
* BadassNormal: Unlike every other named character who serves as a boss, Katakura lacks a Guardian Spirit. Instead he makes up for it with a lot of dirty fighting.
* CombatPragmatist: Initially set up as a DuelBoss, Shigenaga will call upon archers and musketeers to fire upon you halfway through. He'll also make very judicious use of various bombs to screw with your performance.
* EvilGloating: When Shigenaga appears, he monologues for a period of time, [[ShutUpHannibal but players can attack him before he finishes his speech]] (as opposed to most bosses having a cutscene before the actual fight begins). However, if players allow him to finish his dialogue, they can unlock a trophy.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He'll call William out if he attacks him during his EvilGloating, but he himself fights ''very'' dirty and has no problem using archers and musketeers against you.
* InadequateInheritor: Though he's next to take the role of the late Kagetsuna Kojuro, both Masamune is aware that Shigenaga isn't ready to for that responsibility. [[spoiler: Shigenaga didn't even inherit his father's Guardian Spirit.]]
** [[spoiler: Subverted in ''Bloodshed's End''. A side mission sees Shigenaga understand the responsibilities left to him, and he inherits his father's Guardian Spirit from William.]]
* LukeYouAreMyFather: [[spoiler: The late Kagetsuna Kojuro is his father.]]
* YouShallNotPass: The DuelBoss fight occurs after he pulls off [[EvilGloating a villainous version of this]].

! Lady Maria
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/niohmaria.jpg]]
--> '''Voiced by''': Yolanda Kettle (English and Spanish), Creator/ToaYukinari (Japanese)
----
* BigBad: Of the three expansions; ''Dragon of the North'', ''Defiant Honour'' and ''Bloodshed's End''.
* BigBadWannabe: What she becomes[[spoiler: in the sequel. After Yodo-gimi's defeat, she attempts to resurrect Tokichiro to keep the conflicts in Japan going. The moment she finishes her ritual to bring him back, she's immediately [[HijackedByGanon upstaged by Otakemaru]], who appears to possess Tokichiro once more. Once Otakemaru is defeated, her capture is treated as little more than an afterthought.]]
* CaptainErsatz: A LadyOfWar who gracefully rips her opponent apart with a sword, serving as a BossFight for a DownloadableContent in an ActionRPG - are we talking about Lady Maria, or [[VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}} Lady Maria]]? There is enough similarities in design and gameplay to make a case for this. However her personality and role in the story is quite different from VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}}'s Maria. VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}}'s Maria is full of remorse, passively react to the plot while VideoGame/{{Nioh}}'s Maria is actively the BigBad and GreaterScopeVillain of her story.
* CunningLinguist: She speaks Spanish, English and Japanese.
* DashingHispanic: She is a rare female example that fits the classic mold nonetheless, using a rapier with grace. Also doubles as an evil example too.
* DidntSeeThatComing: Twice[[spoiler: in the sequel. First, Kashin Koji's sudden appearance during her ritual to resurrect Tokichiro takes her completely off guard. After Hide deals with him, she quickly realizes that Tokichiro is not the traitorous warlord she hoped he would be, foiling her plot before it can even begin.]]
* DistaffCounterpart: To Edward Kelley - a Westerner who manipulates Japanese warlords to obtain Amrita for their country. In her case, she hails from Spain.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: She cannot figure out why William is so attached enough to a foreign land. Evidently the idea that he might genuinely care about his Japanese allies is an alien concept to her.
* FragileSpeedster: Maria can use VillainTeleportation and is more agile than the other humanoid bosses in ''Dragon of the North'', but she has little to no defense and is very susceptible to stagger during the first half of the fight, though the problem is being able to ''actually hit her''.
* MagicKnight: Utterly lethal with a rapier, and wields some manner of magic, using it to teleport around the arena and [[TurnsRed later fire]] {{Sword Beam}}s.
* PatrioticFervor: Unlike Kelley and Dee, she's completely loyal to her country. Everything she does is to help Spain become the greatest empire in history, rather than arising from any personal ambition.
* PunchClockVillain: She's an elite agent of the Spanish Empire, and is much more businesslike about it than the monstrous Kelley. Even her enemies tend to be pretty matter-of-fact about her actions - for all the tragedy they cause, they're just the result of a typical empire being a typical empire and sending in a professional to serve its interests.
* PuzzleBoss: Facing Maria head-on is possible, but she shot up in super high difficulty due to her overall speed and post-buffing, super heavy damage. However, she is designed to charge up and shoot her energy blast if you stay too far from her post-buffing... and she's vulnerable of ranged attacks on the head, especially from muskets. Players can just bait her to initiate the energy blast and shoot her on the head, giving them some time to strike at her, and then when she wakes up, she will charge up again, giving the player time to widen the range and aim well, thus she will be using the energy blast... get shot again... rinse and repeat...
* RoyalRapier: Uses a rapier to fight you, in stark contrast to the rest of the game's arsenal, which included a few European-style weapons for the London segments.
* ShoutOut: This character is a loose {{composite|Character}} of the same-named Spanish concubine/mistress for Masamune in a Yokoyama Mitsuteru {{Manga}} called ''Date Masamune'' and the novel ''Tokugawa Ieyasu'' written by Yamaoka Sohachi, where a foreign woman is "introduced"[[note]]The novel uses the term "gifted"[[/note]] to Masamune, who married him, but did so in order for Ieyasu to weaken Masamune's growing ambitions.
* SoLongSuckers: [[spoiler:''Dragon of the North'' ends with her teleporting away just as William is about to execute her, taking all the Amrita with her while taunting William. This is followed with TheReveal she will swindle Sanada Yukimura with the Amrita for the future Siege of Osaka Castle]].
** [[spoiler:Does it again in ''Bloodshed's End'' at the very end. Upon realizing that her plan has failed and that the combined William/Yukimura team is about to defeat Yodo-gimi, she teleports out.]]
* TheUnfought: [[spoiler: Despite appearing at the tail end of ''VideoGame/Nioh2'', resurrecting Tokichiro in hopes of using him to spark another war so she can farm Amrita for Spain, she's never engaged in combat by Hide or any of his companions: William simply sneaks up behind her and [[StandardFemaleGrabArea gets her in an arm-lock]] before she can flee.]]
* AWolfInSheepsClothing: She's introduced as a foreign attendant to Masamune, complete with a full-body ''kimono'' and dainty smile. However, this hides her true nature [[spoiler:as a spy sent by Spain to attain Amrita by further fueling the CivilWar in Japan]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Kagetsuna Kojuro]]
!Kagetsuna Kojuro

* CoolOldGuy: [[spoiler: He was the one who implanted the Amrita stone in Masamune's eye socket [[EyeScream after Masamune lost his eye to disease]]. Since then, Masamune's been ever grateful for Kojuro's service to the Date]].
* TheMentor: To Masamune before passing away.
* PosthumousCharacter: Kojuro had passed away from illness before the start of ''Dragon of the North''.

Japan's #1 Soldier, son of a prominent strategist of the Takeda clan, Sanada Masayuki and the son in law of Otani Yoshitsugu. He was one of the people that joined the call for the rebellion in the name of the Toyotomi, but remained a honorable soldier throughout.
----
* AnimalMotifs: Just like Tadakatsu, stags - a helmet mounted with deer antlers, and one of his Guardian Spirits, the "Enku", resembles a stag.
* AntiVillain: Being aligned against the Date clan, who're allied with the Tokugawa, he acts as an antagonist. However, he has a very strong strong sense of honor and aims to fight the Tokugawa fair and square without using Amrita, instantly rejecting GreaterScopeVillain [[spoiler: Maria]]'s proposal.
* TheCameo: He shows up at the very end of the ''Dragon of the North'' DownloadableContent. He plays a more active role in ''Defiant Honor'', as it is set during the historical Siege of Osaka Castle, where Yukimura plays an integral part. He was also briefly mentioned by Otani Yoshitsugu in the main game, who mentioned about his 'son-in-law Sanada'. Historically, Yukimura was Yoshitsugu's son-in-law via marriage with the latter's daughter Akihime.
* CombatPragmatist: Even if he's a man of honor, that doesn't mean Yukimura won't use the pistol he used in cutscenes when fighting William.
* DualWielding: Like Masamune, Yukimura will have two Guardian Spirits - one is his deceased father-in-law Yoshitsugu's Janomecho, the other the flaming qilin Enku.
* AFatherToHisMen: Yukimura cares deeply for his men, especially as the Siege of Osaka is rapidly draining their resources and yet he refuses to be tempted with the use of Amrita. In turn forces respect and revere him deeply, and gladly give their lives to fight for and protect him.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Upon seeing what kinds of horrors Yodo-gimi has unleashed, he changes his allegiance to William and helps in taking her down]].
* HonorBeforeReason: A case that helps and hurts him. Yukimura has noticed that Lady Yodogimi's behavior has taken a dark turn, but stays loyal to the Toyotomi regardless. On the other hand, he and most of his forces absolutely refuse to take [[spoiler: Maria]]'s suggestion to use Amrita, and basically says to take the offer and shove it.
* InASingleBound: One of his moves when fighting him is jumping real high and then follow up with a fire-powered ShockwaveStomp with his spear.
* PlayingWithFire: Enku covers his spear with fire and using the Firestop Talisman will help quite a lot in fighting him.
* PowerFloats: By using Janomecho's powers, Yukimura is able to hover over the ground.
* [[SwordAndGun Spear and Gun]]: Yukimura makes frequent use of his pistol during his fight, and can power it up with his Guardian Spirit to fire cannon-like shots.
* SparedByAdaptation: Subverted. [[spoiler:Yukimura never gets to pull off his historical charge against Ieyasu at Osaka and dying there, but he dies within the Osaka Castle with Yodo-gimi together.]]
** The charge was given to [[spoiler:Sarutobi Sasuke who pull an ElCidPloy on Yukimura's behalf. Sasuke did die there as Sanada Yukimura]]
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:He stays by Yodo-gimi's side as the burning Osaka Castle starts crumbling around them]].

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/niohsasuke.jpg]]
--> '''Voiced by''': Creator/JunichiSuwabe
----
* TheCameo: Sasuke is seen standing alongside Yukimura at the end of ''Dragon of the North''.
* CombatPragmatist: Just a like a proper ninja would be, Sarutobi makes very frequent use of performance hampering bombs.
* MixAndMatchWeapon: Sasuke's tonfas are fitted with cannons in them, which you yourself can actually use (provided you have a specific skill).
* {{Ninja}}: Just as every depiction of the character has been, even squaring off against Hanzo while William fighting Yukimura.
* UndyingLoyalty: Towards Yukimura. [[spoiler:He even goes as far as sacrificing himself to let his master fulfill his duty to Yodo-gimi]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Sanada Braves]]
* CoolSword: Each of them wield unique weapons, from standard swords to [[ImpossiblyCoolWeapon a kusarigama and axe made from glowing meteor fragements]].
* QuirkyMinibossSquad: Played more seriously than normal. Each member has their own schtick, from using certain weapons and skills to certain environmental aspect.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sasaki Kojiro]]
----
* {{BFS}}: He wields an odachi, much like the real Kojiro did.
* BloodKnight: He seems thrilled facing William in battle, knowing that he'll provide a good battle.
* DoubleUnlock: Accessing his duel first requires William to have met the young [[UsefulNotes/MiyamotoMusashi Takezo]] in Sekigahara, which will require players to have completed the Dual Sword mastery Dojo Mission.
* TheDrifter: He's been wandering the land, challenging any skilled opponent to face him in a duel.
* SignatureMove: As always, his mythical ''Tsubame Gaeshi'' (Swallow Reversal), demonstrated with his ability to use Sword's Swallow Wing II with a much larger Odachi, and a faster, reversed version of Odachi's Moonlit Snow. Both of these moves would eventually become usable by players in the sequel.

! Yodo-gimi
[[quoteright:311:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nioh_yodogimi.png]]
--> '''Voiced by''': Creator/AtsukoTanaka

Eldest daughter of Lady Oichi, making her the niece of Oda Nobunaga. She became Hideyoshi's concubine and bore his heir Toyotomi Hideyori. Having a deep-seated hatred against the Tokugawa, she gathered army and Amrita to finish the daimyo in revenge of her terrible life.
----
* AsianFoxSpirit: Her Guardian Spirit is a nine-tailed fox called Nine Tails. [[spoiler:It possesses her for the final boss fight, turning her into a monstrous black-and-red fox monster. ''VideoGame/Nioh2'' reveals her mother, Oichi, had a nine-tailed fox as well.]]
* BrokenBird: Like her historical counterpart, Yodo-gimi's life has been filled with tragedy. Her father, Azai Nagamasa, rebelled against Nobunaga (Yodo-gimi's uncle) and committed seppuku. Her mother, Oichi, sided with Shibata Katsuie when Nobunaga died, but committed suicide when Katsuie was defeated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Yodo-gimi eventually became Hideyoshi's concubine and bore him an heir in Hideyori [[spoiler:except Hideyori died as an infant and Yodo-gimi resorted to dark methods to make a homunculus in his image.]]
* DaddysLittleVillain: She was Hideyoshi's ''adopted'' daughter, [[WifeHusbandry who went on to be his concubine and eventually second wife...]] Um... Yeah, [[ValuesDissonance it's the Middle Ages]]. Although interestingly enough, her ''biological'' parents were none other than Azai Nagamasa (who strongly opposed Nobunaga) and Oichi (the sister of Nobunaga), who have often been portrayed as sympathetic and even heroic figures. Fittingly, she seems to have the same flair as Nobunaga, her maternal uncle.
* DespairEventHorizon: She once longed for a world without war, but losses and betrayal caused her to twist that ideal into a dark parody of itself.
* DyingAsYourself: [[spoiler:After being defeated, she realizes the mistake of her ways and dies in Yukimura's hands]].
* FurAndLoathing: Wears a black robe with a very thick fur trim. She also makes no effort to hide her ill intent, [[spoiler: due to taking up Maria's offer of using Amrita after Yukimura rejected it]]. [[spoiler:She turns into the Nine-Tailed Fox after fusing with her Guardian Spirit, becoming a monstrous Yokai with black and red fur]].
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: Smokes from a red and black encrusted ''kiseru''.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: When we finally see her face, Yodo-gimi reveals her eyes are this, and even glow briefly, implying that there is definitely something unnatural about her.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Black robe? Check. Red kimono and hair ornaments? Check. Red ''and'' black pipe? Check. [[spoiler:Red and black Yokai form?]] ''Double check''. Safe to say the designers went for this thought in mind.
* TragicVillain: Many horrible events in her life led to her becoming insane and hell-bent on taking her revenge on Tokugawa.
* TrueFinalBoss: She's this for the DLC storyline as well as ''Nioh 1''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Toyotomi Hideyori]]
! Toyotomi Hideyori
--> '''Voiced by''': Creator/MakotoFurukawa
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: [[spoiler:Due to dying in his infancy, Hideyori was resurrected by his mother using Amrita, making more a homunculus than a man. This is compounded by his suddenly being classed as a Yokai midway in his fight]].
* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler: Unlike his historical counterpart, Hideyori was never alive to begin with, having died in his infancy and being resurrected as a sort of homunculus.]]
* DisappearsIntoLight: [[spoiler:During his death, he bursts into Amrita]].
* DualWielding: Hideyori fights you with two swords. However, he'll switch between using one sword or both.
* MommasBoy: Since Yodo-gimi's effectively taken leadership of the Toyotomi clan, Hideyori's more or less relegated to going along with whatever his mother's planning.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:'''Bonus Boss''']]
! Jin Hayabusa
-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/HideyukiHori
----
* AncestralWeapon: The Dragon Sword and Hayabusa Kusarigama are both heirlooms of his clan.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: Absolutely no one expected an ancestor of Ryu Hayabusa to show up.
* ImpossibleTheft: {{Inverted|Trope}}. The briefing involves Hanzo explaining that he found a note slipped into his breast pocket. Considering that Hanzo's a master ninja, this is even more impressive.
* LightningBruiser: Hits like a truck and flies around the battlefield at Mach 10. Like descendant, like ancestor.
* MagicKnight: On top ninjutsu tools and his weapons, he makes very judicious use of ''ninpo'' that your ''onmyodo'' spells can't even hold a candle to.
* MultiMeleeMaster: Uses both his sword and a kusarigama to fight you.
* MyRulesAreNotYourRules: The biggest offender in the game. Whereas most humanoid opponents have a bunch of gimmicks that you yourself can't perform, they otherwise fight similarly to William. Here, you have a guy that fights with a completely unique moveset and spells, and uses them extremely liberally.
* MythologyGag: His clan, just like in VideoGame/NinjaGaiden, are said to have been sponsored by Oda Nobunaga.
* OptionalBoss: He appears as a boss after the final story mission of ''Bloodshed's End''.
* ReusedCharacterDesign: His outfit is based on Ryu's outfit in the classic VideoGame/NinjaGaiden NES trilogy, and he uses various moves and attack from the series.
* SignatureMove: Given the opportunity, he'll even use the famous Izuna Drop.
* TheSpook: Even Hanzo, the historical TropeCodifier for ninja, can only find out a little bit about the Hayabusa Clan.

----

* BeethovenWasAnAlienSpy: [[spoiler: He was human in real life. In this game he is a shiftling, someone that is part Yokai and part human, just like Hide.]]
* CoolSword: One of the past wielders of Sohayamaru, a golden glowing seven-branched sword passed down through his clan, the Minamoto. He also wields Usumidori, a curved tachi whose name translates to "Light Green" that fittingly glows a soft green.
* FinalBoss: Of the first DLC.
* FlashStep: He can dodge attacks by doing this.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: His right eye glows blue when he uses his yokai powers. When he's consumed by hatred towards the Taira, it starts glowing red before he transforms.
* HalfHumanHybrid: A Shiftling, just like Hide.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Yoshitsune has vey soft features and sports a long ponytail underneath his helmet.
* OneWingedAngel: His Yokai Shift form resembles a Tengu, with his nose turning into a beak and glowing wings in his back. He also loses control of himself, attacking everything in sight.
* StormOfBlades: He can fire several Katana from his wings.
* SwordBeam: He can fire them when he swings Sohayamaru during his boss fight.
* RaisedByTheSupernatural: He was raised by a group of Yokai that lived in Mount Kurama.
* UnstoppableRage: Watching Benkei be killed by the Taira drives him over the edge and transforms him into a monstrous Aratama who attacks everyone around him, including Hide.

* BeethovenWasAnAlienSpy: [[spoiler: A yokai in this case.]]
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: Benkei initially attacks Hide after seeing their future Sohayamaru and mistakenly believing they stole Yoshitsune's own. After being defeated and realizing he was wrong, he joins Hide as an ally, as they remind him of his master.
* FictionalizedDeathAccount: The real Musashibou Benkei would [[spoiler: meet his end in a similar matter to this one, that being riddled by arrows, but even then the accounts of his death are still different. The historical Benkei [[HoldTheLine held the line against hundreds of trained soldiers on a bridge]] to prevent them from reaching his master, Yoshitsune, until the enemy army decided to just shoot him from afar. 231* GlowingEyesOfDoom: His eyes glow a bright blue.
* HeroicSacrifice: He sacrifices himself to protect Yoshitsune and Hide from a Taira assault, and he's shot dead by their archers.
* InterfaceSpoiler: He has a [[spoiler: Yokai Ki meter, which gives away that underneath that cloth is some form of Yokai. Though the true reveal is just what sort of Yokai he ends up being; a Seto-Taishō]].
* InTheHood: His head is covered at all times with a cloth. [[spoiler:When he dies, the cloth flies away and reveals his head was a porcelain jar.]]
* MultiMeleeMaster: He's capable of using multiple weapons, though he will mostly stick to using his polearm.
* TheUnintelligible: For most of the DLC Hide is unable to understand him when he speaks and his dialogue must be translated by Nekomata and Hakutaku. [[spoiler: After his death, he will begin speaking to Hide normally in the Interim.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: To Yoshitsune.
* WalkingArmory: He carries multiple weapons that are all stored in an enormous urn on his back.

!UsefulNotes/AbeNoSeimei
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sm01750.jpg]]
The legendary onmyōji that lived during the Heian era of Japan, becoming one of its most prominent mystical figures.
* ActuallyADoombot: The Seimei that teaches the protagonist onmyōo magic is actually an avatar the original Seimei left behind to watch over Japan in his absence.
* TheArchmage: The most powerful Onmyōji of his era, unmatched even to the modern day.
* EarlyBirdCameo: The real Seimei is first seen as long dead mummy in the depths of Byodo-In alongside Yorimitsu during the game's main story.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Compared to TheStoic ''shikigami'' that Hide and William meet, the real Seimei is immediately shown to be a skilled trickster, dispatching a berserk Mezuki and Gozuki with his shikigami in one fell swoop, then dismissing it, fooling both Hide and Yorimitsu for a moment like a casual parlor trick, all while blithely teasing her. She is not amused.
* TheGadfly: Specifically to Yorimitsu, who he seems to enjoy teasing.
* HeroicSacrifice: He willingly falls into a deep slumber to seal the Nine-Tailed Fox within Byodo-In alongside Yorimitsu, which he never awakens from.

One of Japan's prominent mythical demon slayers and ancestor of Yoshitsune, slaying demons along with the four guardians Sakata Kintoki, Urabe Suetake, Usui Sadamitsu and Watanabe Tsuna. Also bearing the name 'Raikou', [[HistoricalGenderFlip she's female in this verse.]]
----
* AscendedExtra: Previously only mentioned by her underling Sakata Kintoki, whom William could meet as a spirit in the underworld (and being the axe instructor)
* CollectorOfTheStrange: She collects the Soul Cores of every yokai she's defeated.
* CoolSword: One of the past wielders of Sohayamaru, a golden glowing seven-branched sword passed down through her clan, the Minamoto. She also uses the Bloodsucker and Spider-Cutter, a pair of dual swords with scarlet blades.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Like Seimei, she's first seen at Byodo-In in the base game. Although by that point, she's little more than a mummified husk and it isn't revealed to be her until the end of the DLC.
* FireForgedFriends: Much like Mumyo, Yorimitsu's first encounter with Hide is a hostile one due to her mistaking Hide for a dangerous youkai. She warms up to Hide after the latter saves her from the Tsuchigumo, and her dialogue in the Interim makes it clear she considers you a friend after the events of "Darkness in the Capital."
* HeroAntagonist: She acts as one at first, due to her confusing Hide with another Oni.
* HeroicSacrifice: She willingly falls into a deep slumber in order to seal Shuten-Doji within Byodo-In alongside Seimei. She never awakens.
* HistoricalGenderFlip: Though probably not the [[Manga/GetterRobo first time]] [[VideoGame/FateGrandOrder Yorimitsu is female here]]. Her profile [[HandWave Hand Waves]] this by saying she had a younger brother who also used the name "Raikou" and handled court affairs in her stead, being her public face while she focused strictly on hunting Yokai.
* HunterOfMonsters: One of the previous holders of the Sohayamaru, and an expert Yokai slayer.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: An example that's informed strictly through gameplay. When she starts the fight with the Sohayamaru, many of her basic attacks are animations reused from Tachibana Muneshige, which are also parriable, save for her two skills... Once she pulls her personal Yasutsuna katana, she becomes an IaijutsuPractitioner, gaining a completely unique moveset (save for Sword's Night Rain skill, which she uses an improved version of) and can now effortlessly deflect Hide's attacks from a sheathed stance, becoming much more difficult to throw off-guard. Her two grabs are also restricted to her Yasutsuna as well. She demonstrates a clear preference between her two main weapons, but subverts the trope by ultimately switching back to the Sohayamaru to activate Living Weapon for the last stretch of her fight.
* MagicKnight: Her strength comes from a mixture of swordplay, Guardian Spirit abilities and the use of Yokai spirit cores. It's also implied by her outfit that she had some Onmyo training as a child.
* MarriedToTheJob: As her banter with Seimei demonstrates.
--> '''Minamoto no Yorimitsu''': Hah. You think I lack charm?
--> '''Abe no Seimei''': I just fear you'll scare any eligible men away. Here's an idea... Maybe learn a little origami?
--> '''Minamoto no Yorimitsu''': I don't need advice from you! I have no time for romance.
** The mission completion text after "Palace of the Damned" mentions an awkwardly folded crane within her Soul Core Box found in the present, suggesting she took his words to heart and somehow found time to try it for herself.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: A Sub Mission has "Raikou" asking Hide to help find her comrade Watanabe no Tsuna, but has a much more sinister portrait, no name labeled under it, and talking in an uncharacteristically haughty manner. These are all major clues that the "Raikou" you can choose to accompany in that mission is a Yokai in disguise.
* SamusIsAGirl: When Kintoki mentioned her to William, he made no mention about her gender, just referring her as his master or boss. Hide was the one to find out that Raikou is a woman.
* WorldsBestWarrior: Unmatched at her peak, where she could cut down Yokai and humans alike with style. This translates to gameplay where she has a number sword skills and other abilities that players can't duplicate.

!Ashiya Doman
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nioh2_ashiya_doman.jpg]]
The rival of Ame no Senbei, and the one responsible for the yokai invasion of Heian/Kyoto.
* TheArchmage: One of the greatest onmyōji to ever live, second only to Abe no Seimei.
* BigBad: The main antagonist of the DLC. Although Otakemaru is the ManBehindTheMan, naturally.
* CategoryTraitor: He considers the protagonist one for opposing him despite being a shiftling.
* TheCorruptor: He uses his powers to forcefully transform Nekomata into Byakko.
* DemonicPossession: He is possessed by Otakemaru, with the latter leaving his body after you defeat the Lightning Gods of Yomi.
* {{Expy}}: An evil sorcerer who controls Yokai and is behind the events of the plot? Who also acts as the Avatar for an extremely powerful demon upon his defeat? ''And'' he even corrupts Nekomata into the Byakko? Kelley, is that you?
* ExpyCoexistence: He's the exact same character archetype as Kashin Koji in the main game. This is because he's possessed by him.
* LaserBlade: He can create a blade of light that extends from his hand. The player can obtain this talisman through a rematch with him in a certain side mission.
* TheRival: To Abe-no-Seimei, who defeated him in a test of magical skill.
* ShockAndAwe: While he possesses plenty of magical mastery, he heavily favors lightning magic in combat.
* TwoFaced: The left side of his face is covered in what appear to be kanji shaped burn scars and he's infamously vile.

!Ren Hayabusa
The Heian Period Ancestor to Ryu Hayabusa in the same vein as his Sengoku Ancestor, Jin, from the first game.
----
* AchillesHeel: If you hit him while he's doing an airborne attack, he'll be knocked prone to the ground and can be struck for major damage. Actually hitting him, however, is easier said than done due to his speed.
* LightningBruiser: What makes Ren so dangerous is that he not only hits hard and fast, but is also relentless.
* MultiMeleeMaster: Ren uses a sword and clawed fists in his battle against you. You can forge said sword and fists if you manage to get the smithing texts for them.
* PlayingWithFire: He can use the Flame Dragon skill, where he sends a fireball at you.
* ReusedCharacterDesign: Like Jin, his design is based on Ryu. Although unlike Jin, Ren's outfit is based on Ryu's from the modern ''VideoGame/NinjaGaiden'' games.
* SignatureMove: Much like Jin before him, he'll Izuna Drop your ass if given the opportunity.

Suzuka Gozen is the younger sister of Otakemaru. She has taken it upon herself to put an end to her brother's ambitions.
----
* ActionGirl: One of the most famous in Japan, capable of going toe-to-toe with her brother Otakemaru.
* CainAndAbel: She is the Abel to Otakemaru's Cain, having resolved to strike her brother down in order to protect humanity from his rage.
* CoolSword: She is the creator of the Sohayamaru, having used her Guardian Spirit Sohaya to forge the only blade that can bring Otakemaru down.
* HornedHumanoid: Mostly human-looking, she still has a glowing {{oni}} horn even in human form.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler:Creating the Sohayamaru strips her of most of her memories. The epilogue of "First Samurai" shows that she had regained them after Kashin Koji killed her.]]
* LightIsGood: Her spirit Sohaya is a shining white dragon with purifying powers and she wants to put a stop to her brother.

A tengu who visually resembles Miyama no Nyotengu from ''Dead or Alive'', and is heavily implied to be her mother.
----
* InterplayOfSexAndViolence: She moans a lot throughout the battle with her, just like her descendant. After the protagonist defeats her, she declares that she thinks she's in love with them.
* NoblewomansLaugh: But of course. Defeating her even nets the player her haughty laugh as a gesture.
* SweetTooth: The mission to fight her can only be unlocked after collecting three grilled tang sweets from three different missions. She attacks the protagonist so she can get her hands on them.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: One of her two grapple moves is her descendant's famous air powerbomb. While it can be burst countered, the window of time to so is extremely short.
