!!Michelanne "Mike" Mazinsky
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NikaFutterman (credited as Nika Frost in every episode except for the pilot)
[[quoteright:348:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/MikeMazinsky2_7000.png]]
[[caption-width-right:348:"I don't do grass skirts and I definitely ''do not'' do noserings."]]

Mike is a streetwise, 11-year-old, red-headed girl from Manhattan who became a foreign exchange student and was sent to the secluded island of Albonquetine. She often leads the charge to create creature comforts from her civilized home, while at other times, she gets stuck in the middle of one of the island's wacky traditions.

* AlliterativeName: Both her first name and her surname begin with M.
* BareMidriffsAreFeminine: [[InvertedTrope Inverted.]] she wears a red top that exposes her midriff but she's a tomboy.
* BerserkButton: ''Don't'' call her by her real name!
* CityMouse: She's from New York and now is trying to adjust to living on an island.
* DeadpanSnarker: Occasionally makes remarks about the natives' strange ways.
* DoNotCallMePaul: She doesn't like being called Michelanne.
* FieryRedhead: Subverted. She's mostly laid back, but it is possible to drive her over the edge.
* ForeignExchangeStudent: It is stated that she is an exchange student from Manhattan.
* GenkiGirl: Occasionally, she's rather energetic when she's happy.
* GirlishPigtails: She wears her hair in pigtails.
* LimitedWardrobe: "Hot Couture" reveals that she has an entire closet full of red shirts and skirts.
** Also in "Flustering Footwear Flotsam", Mike reveals she has multiple pairs of red sneakers.
-->[[HypocriticalHumor "I don't have shoe issues like]] ''[[HypocriticalHumor some]]'' [[HypocriticalHumor people."]]
* NiceGirl: Once you look past her DeadpanSnarker tendencies, she's very sweet.
* TheOneWhoWearsShoes: The only one who doesn't go barefoot.
* OnlySaneMan: She serves as a straight man to the eccentric ways of the inhabitants of Albonquetine.
* PluckyGirl: She's often cheerful whenever she's on good terms with everyone else on Albonquetine, which is fairly often.
* PrimalFear: As shown in some episodes such as "Giant Steps" and "Brave Sir Lancelot", she is afraid of spiders.
* SameClothesDifferentYear: [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Toddler_840.png As seen in a flashback]] in "Flustering Footwear Flotsam".
* SanitySlippage: "Sultans Of Swat" has her lose her patience when trying to teach the natives to play baseball.
* {{Tomboy}}: She doesn't really act very girly.
* TomboyishName: Mike is normally a boy's name. Justified in that her real name is Michelanne and she hates being called by her real name.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Lu's Girly Girl. Mike's main interest is in a superhero known as Action Man, while Lu is all about being a princess.
* TomboyishVoice: Has a raspy voice courtesy of Nika Futterman.

!!Lu
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NancyCartwright
[[quoteright:231:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Lu_4012.png]]

[[InsistentTerminology "Princess" Lu]] is a self-absorbed SpoiledBrat who is bossy to everyone and demands that her "peasants" obey her every command.

* AlphaBitch: She's the self-proclaimed princess of the island and is rather bratty.
* AndCallHimGeorge: She often abuses Lancelot without considering how much her actions will harm him.
* AttentionWhore: She gets furious when she is ignored.
* BigEater: Once became addicted to jumbo-sized jujubombs in the episode "Jujubombs". She even ''swallowed them whole!''
* BlackHoleBelly: When she eats the jujubombs in "Jujubombs, you can see them travel down her throat, but when they get to her torso the large lump just disappears.
* ButtMonkey: She frequently gets comically injured or humiliated, though she has it coming given her usual attitude.
* CatchPhrase: Every time Lancelot leaves her sight or does something she doesn't approve of, she screams the turtle's name.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: For the brat she is, even she can't stand her deceased Aunt Lulu. Then again, it could be a case of who's bossing who around.
* HateSink: Lu is the most hated character in this show. And it's not hard to see why, she's condescending to Mike and Og and very abusive to her pet turtle, Lancelot.
* HonoraryPrincess: Lu is the self-proclaimed princess of her island. Justified as she is the daughter of the island's governor and Albonquetine is deserted, populated only by her tribe.
* {{Jerkass}}: She has a ''few'' JerkWithAHeartOfGold moments, but these are far and in-between.
* KickTheDog: Dishes these out frequently, usually to her pet turtle Lancelot.
* TheKidsAreAmerican: She and her cousin have American accents in spite of their parents having British accents.
* LargeHam: As self-proclaimed royalty, shouting the majority of her lines comes with the territory.
* MissingMom: Her mother has not been seen or mentioned.
* PetTheDog: She shows concern for Mike, Og, Albert, and Margery's well-being when they are threatened by sharks in "Losing Lancelot".
* RoyalBrat: She's the "princess" and she only cares about what she wants.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: She occasionally claims that being the princess means she can get away with cheating. On some occasions, she even defends herself by saying "Island rules" when Mike calls her out for cheating.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Lu constantly brags about being the best at everything, being a self-entitled brat. This never ends well for her.
* SpoiledBrat: She'll stop at nothing to get what she wants.
* TakenForGranite: Encased in a candy mold at the end of "Jujubombs". [[ITasteDelicious Not that she didn't like it.]]
* TokenEvilTeammate: Not really evil, but she is bratty, selfish, and the least nice of the main characters.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Lu acts more girly than the tomboyish Mike due to her belief that she is the island's princess.

!!Og
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/DeeBradleyBaker
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Og_5493.png]]

A soft-spoken ChildProdigy who often creates inventions and recreated things Mike misses about the big city.

* CharacterTic: He flicks his nosering whenever he gets an idea to build something.
* ChildProdigy: He's only a child but is able to invent anything Mike asks him to.
* TheKidsAreAmerican: He and his cousin have American accents despite the fact their parents have British ones.
* MadScientist: While he's normally sane, "Opposites Attack" had him ceaselessly build a bunch of aggressive robots after the other islanders' demands for him to build stuff for them drove him off the deep end.
* NiceGuy: He's very friendly.
* TheQuietOne: Of all the main characters, he has the least amount of dialogue.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: The few times he talks often have him use technical terms, whether it's explaining how his inventions work or stating his awe at observing certain wildlife.
* TheSmartGuy: Being a genius inventor, he's pretty much the most intelligent person around.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Speaks to the Philisophical Society when no one else is around.
* VagueAge: According to Cartoon Network's website in 1999, Og is stated to be five. However, "The Great Snipe Hunt" takes place on Og's seventh birthday. Yet, he's around the same size as ten-year-old Lu.

!!Alfred
->'''Voiced by:''' Martin Rayner
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/char_35631_937.jpg]]

Og's father and a dedicated hunter who usually chases a wombat.

* AnimeHair: He has wild hair that sticks out everywhere.
* BumblingDad: His wombat chases keep him from helping Og with his problems.
* EgomaniacHunter: He often tries to hunt wombat.
* ElmuhFuddSyndwome: Heck, he's pretty much a British version of Elmer Fudd.
* GagNose: He has a bulbous nose.
* HeroicBSOD:
** He has it after the wombat humiliates him in "The Hunter And The Hunted". He snaps out of it when he successfully catches the wombat (which was all part of a secret deal between Mike and the wombat).
** Another case happens in "Flustering Footwear Flotsam" when he successfully catches the wombat and now doesn't know what to do with his life.
* PapaWolf: In "Losing Lancelot", he comes to his son's rescue.

!!Margery

Og's mother and talented artist, historian, and chef.

* EightiesHair: Her hair is spread out and wild.
* HazmatSuit: She briefly wears one in "Thanks But No Thanks" while preparing food for All Foodstuff's Eve.
* HypnoFool: "Margery the Duck" had her on the receiving end of Og's hypnosis invention and as a result, thought she was a duck.
* LargeHam: Often when writing or explaining about the island's ancestors.
* LetsGetDangerous: When she leaps into the debate/wrestling match in "A Freudian Split".
* StarvingArtist: Creating things from shoe portraits to "negative space" from hot dogs to Mount Rushmore-style carvings.
* SupremeChef: She normally does the cooking and everyone enjoys the food she makes.
* TeaIsClassy: From the island's prized teacup salvaged from the wreckage of the Good Ship Betty Anne.

!!Wendell
->'''Voiced by:''' S. Scott Bullock

Lu's father and governor of the island

* BigEater: After becoming physically fit in "Fitness Fever", he gorged on chocolate nonstop and returned to his old physique in two days.
* BumblingDad: He doesn't do anything to discipline his ill-behaved daughter.
* CampStraight: He's shown to have a great fondness for theater and tea cozies and while he's never seen with a woman (which is justified as the only Albonquetinian woman around is Alfred's wife Margery), it is all but stated that Lu is his biological daughter, so he must have been married at some point.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: In "Fitness Fever", he developed a muscular physique and had the strength to lift ''elephants.''
* CowardlyLion: He's often very cowardly, but he steps in whenever help is needed.
* TheDitherer: In "Flustering Footwear Flotsam", his shoe problem is that he's unable to decide which of two pairs to wear.
* FatIdiot: He's overweight and not very bright.
* LargeHam: He tends to speak in an over-the-top and emotional manner.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: His voice is based on that of Creator/KennethWilliams.

!!Old Queeks
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/CoreyBurton
[[quoteright:347:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Queeks_5349.png]]

The island's old witch doctor and soothsayer.

* CoolOldGuy: He likes to claim he is this, but most of the time he's just a cranky senior citizen who relies on smoke and mirrors.
* ForTheLulz: In "Fitness Fever", he hypnotized Wendel because he thought it was funny to see him act like a chicken.
* GrumpyOldMan: He's elderly and often acts very crabby.
* {{Jerkass}}: Next to Lu, he's the least kind character on the show.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Even he can become a slave to trends.
* OnlySaneMan: He's the only Albonquetine native who realizes that adapting the culture and pastimes of Mike will always end in disaster, even when he himself gets in on it.
* ScrewPolitenessImASenior: He doesn't show respect towards anyone else.
* SurroundedByIdiots: He even says "Why must you punish me so?" in "Flustering Footwear Flotsam" in response to the other islanders refusing to give up their shoes.
* UnstoppableRage: When he gets ''upset'' upset, things tend to turn ugly.
* VerbalTic: He often finishes his sentences with "...what-what".
* WitchDoctor: He believes he can contact spirits and sometimes does chants while wearing a tribal mask.

!Animals

!!Lancelot
[[quoteright:287:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/LancelotTurtle_2272.png]]

Lu's long-suffering pet land turtle.

* AllAnimalsAreDogs: Lu walks him on a leash. There are even two scenes in the episode "Palm Pet" where he hikes his leg in an attempt to pee on Mike's pet palm tree Petey.
* AmbiguousGender: While the show's creator stated that Lancelot was a girl, the show itself proves to be contradictory because of Lancelot's lack of TertiarySexualCharacteristics and being frequently referred to with male pronouns, among other things.
* ButtMonkey: Just about every episode has him get injured or suffer a humiliating fate.
* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Reptile]]: He non-verbally shows his disapproval of Lu's attempts at getting attention or having things her way.
* RemovableShell: One of the most common misfortunes to befall him is to lose his shell.
* [[RightHandCat Right-Hand Turtle]]: He is Lu's pet.
* TheVoiceless: He never speaks.

!!Philosophical Society
->'''Voiced by:''' Dee Bradley Baker (Goat), Kath Soucie (Pig), Martin Rayner (Spiney)

Og's talking animal friends who often discuss philosophy. Made up of Goat, Pig, and Spiney.

* CowardlyLion: Spiney is the most timid of the group, but that doesn't stop him from helping Pig and Goat save the islanders from the volcano in "Whole Lotta Shakin'", nor does it keep him from looking for Og in "Opposites Attack" when he doesn't show up for the Philosophical Society's meeting.
* ADogNamedDog: Goat and Pig. Averted with Spiney (a porcupine).
* GluttonousPig: There are frequent occasions where Pig complains about being hungry or talks about food.
* IntellectualAnimal: They often spend their time discussing the beliefs of famous poets and authors.
* MisplacedWildlife: It's very unlikely that a pig, a goat, and a porcupine would inhabit the same place.
* OddNameOut: Spiney is the only member who doesn't follow [[ADogNamedDog the naming conventions of an animal being named after its species]].

! Pirates
->'''Voiced by:''' Brian George (Captain), Corey Burton (Bos'n), Martin Rayner (Mate)

The descendants of the pirates who shipwrecked the island's ancestors, the captain, mate and bos'n live on a small section of the island called "The Barnacle". They crave to turn Lancelot into turtle soup.

* AntiVillain: They're not evil, just hungry
* CompanionCube: The captain sometimes talks with a hand puppet of a pink rabbit.
* [[CreepyCrossdresser Creepy Crossdressers]]: When Mike disguises them as New York girls so they can eat some food at All Foodstuff's Eve in "Thanks But No Thanks".

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Turtle Soup
* TerribleTrio: There are three of them.

!Cuzzlewitz

[[quoteright:343:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Cuzzlewitz_774.png]]
Debuting in the show's second season, the Cuzzlewitz clan live on the other side of the island and tend to be more primitive and wild than their refined neighbors. Suprisingly, their number is larger than the Albonquetine clan.

!!Haggis & Baggis
->'''Voiced by:''' Brian George (Haggis), S. Scott Bullock (Baggis)

* [[AbhorrentAdmirer Abhorrent Admirers:]] "For The Love Of Mike" has Haggis and Baggis become attracted to Mike after she falls in the mud. For the rest of the episode, Mike is annoyed that they won't leave her alone.
* [[TheDitz The Ditzes]]: They're so brutish and dim-witted that they actually make Alfred look intelligent by comparison.
* HiddenDepths: In "For The Love Of Mike", while crooning for Mike, they actually come up with decent rhyming lyrics on the fly.
* MeaningfulName: Haggis speaks with a Scottish accent.

!!Hermione
->'''Voiced by:''' Alison Larkin

Unlike the other Cuzzlewitz, the older sister of Haggis & Baggis is more cultured, speaks in complete sentences, and gets along better with the others.

* CoolBigSis: Unlike Haggis and Baggis, she is intelligent and more civilized.
* LargeHam: Often speaks in a showy and theatrical way.
* MyInstinctsAreShowing: Though more civilized then the rest of her brethren, even she can't resist the scent of a guano-covered Mike.
