!Human Realm

[[folder:Humans in General]]
* AbusivePrecursors: Averted, [[spoiler:at least according to Brilith. There was another human race before the current one, one that was powerful enough to threaten gods and nastikas - hence why the two races joined forces to extinguish them. However, according to Brilith, the original humans were wise enough to not use their powers for evil, not like, as she points out, some of the nastikas themselves. Frankly, given what the narratives paints as the general rule of suras, it's no wonder she's so bitter about the whole thing]].
* TheAlliance: The six cities have one of sorts, sending help to one another when there are sura attacks and generally keeping constant communication.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: Most humans believe suras are this; of course, the truth is more complicated. It's important to note, however, that humans have been the suras' punching bags for millions if not billions of years, and thus this view of them is not entirely unwarranted.
* AlwaysLawfulGood: On the other hand, gods are seen this way, even if they're actually only a bit better. Even characters that are able to point out how gods and suras aren't all that much apart on the morality spectrum can't do much but obey to gods, as everyone else sees them this way.
* CategorismAsAPhobia: The prejudice against halfs reeks of this. It only ever started after the emotional resonance led to them going berserk during the Cataclysm.
* TheChewToy: Atera and Kalibloom do not have a good time. Whereas the other cities are attacked only once or twice (and often with minimal damage or focus), Atera and Kalibloom have been attacked no less than three times so far, and suffer quite a bit of destruction in the process.
* CrapsaccharineWorld: Mistyshore is a beautiful city by the sea... and also one of the most violently anti-half places in Willarv.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Almost all purebloods have matching hair and eyes.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Fiendish magic. Just as divine magic harnesses the power of a god, fiendish magic borrowed the power of a nastika. It was so dangerous that mistakes could entail on the death of not only the user's enemies but also their allies and the very one who used the spell. Humans gave up on it around a thousand years ago, something that did not sit well with a few suras.
* EasyRoadToHell: Human society has this mentality, which is discussed in season three. It's eventually revealed that sins such as "blasphemy" aren't really sins; when discussing the matter, Eline and Laila notice that using the fear of going to hell because of your sins (especially blasphemy) is a way for the gods to control humans, not unlike how adults scare children into behaving with the boogeyman.
* ElementalNation: Slightly so. It's possible to give a loose characterization to each city based on the elements of the barriers that protect them. Atera is the "City of Fire", all in pink and red, just north of the equator; Rindhallow is the "City of Death and Darkness", the coldest of the six cities in Willarv and also the one with the biggest reputation for sura-killing. Eloth, the City of Light and Creation, is a beautiful metropolis and the center of the magic world. Mistyshore, the City of Water, is the city by the sea and where one goes to visit the water channels. Kalibloom is the City of Earth and Chaos, all in high mountains and with a black sky where stars cannot be seen ([[spoiler:and also the place where most Taraka attacks happen]] in season three). Finally, Aeroplateau is a flying city that harbors the Temples of Air and Sky. However, magic isn't limited to said elements and the citizens don't really fit a single archetype.
* FantasticRacism: Halfs have been victims of this since N0.
* GrimUpNorth: Rindhallow, the coldest of the six cities, is in the northern pole of Willarv and has a dark reputation among suras. It also bears the [[SarcasmMode cutesy name]] of "City of Death and Darkness".
* HalfHumanHybrid: Halfs are half sura. However, most halfs come from other halfs rather than having a sura parent.
* LittleBitBeastly: Halfs retain traits of their sura heritage. This actually allows sura to masquerade as them when entering cities.
* TheMagocracy: Magicians are the highest social group among humans; pretty much every single ruling or somehow influent position a human can hold in Willarv has something to do with magic.
* MirroringFactions: For all that humanity likes to complain about the suras (and rightfully so), they aren't that much apart if you look closely. Suras (aside form nastikas and Fifth Stage rakshasas) eat member of differing clans - something that humans also do, as seen in season three when Riche orders Asura meat in a bar. Besides, suras eat each other because they have to - humans hunt and eat suras as a delicacy, including [[ImAHumanitarian halfs]]: Yaksha halfs' livers, for instance, are highly sought after for boosting stamina. Suras have less moral restrainings regarding murder than humanity, and mostly kill humans because they considers mankind to be worthless. Similarly, some humans see no trouble in hunting and eating half-human individuals because they consider halfs to be lower than themselves. Keep in mind that the Cataclysm was less than thirty years ago.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Quarters age at 1/2 the rate purebloods do. Halfs age at 1/4.
* PunyEarthlings: A number of sura and gods consider humans to be lesser beings, if not irrelevant ants.
* TheTheocracy: In a way, yes, and even more so in places where gods are summoned. Priests and priestesses generally are at the very top of the social hierarchy and have as much authority as real-world rulers. It's even said in-universe that what a god says immediately becomes akin to law. Interestingly, things were changing after the Cataclysm; however, as gods began to reappear in the human realm, things went back to how they were, something a few characters actually lament.
* TurbulentPriest: Soooooo very averted. Human society is guided by godly will; the years following the Cataclysm were the exception, not the rule. Priests occupy top spots of the social pyramid, and, as they are the ones that most commonly manage to summon, they are ''very'' unlikely to disagree with their gods. Laila never openly defied Chandra and only ever showed her disgust for his actions in private, and he considers her to be ''exceptionally'' disrespectful.

[[caption-width-right:250:[[labelnote:Click to see her appearance pre-timeskip]][[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leezprofile_2241.png]][[/labelnote]]]]

The heroine of the story, the "Human with the God's Name" that the sura are searching for. She's a bit empty-headed, but good-natured and friendly. Her overriding goal is to exact revenge on the sura who destroyed her village.
----
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: [[spoiler:Cannot remember anything from the times when her "friend" takes over her body.]]
* ArtShift: Her character design changes dramatically (and permanently) when [[spoiler:she realizes Asha was just using her]]. Particularly noticeable because it happens ''instantaneously'', between one panel and the next.
* AttackReflector: The Golden Knight lets her reflect transcendental attacks back at their user, although it costs her vigor proportional to the power of the attack.
* AttackAttackAttack: During her stay in the sura realm, she kept getting into many battles with Nastika for her insolence towards them, which were probably well-deserved, and still does't waver in calling them out and attacking/defending herself even though she kept getting killed by them multiple times. One of her notable battles is with that of '''Ravana''' - the No.2 of the Asura Clan. Luckily, she had the [[ResurrectiveImmortality benefits of the Golden Knight bracelet]] but such acts gave her a reputation as a {{Fearless Fool}} in the Sura Realm and deep worry from Yuta and Vayu.
-->'''[Vayu]:''' I couldn't believe my ears back then when I heard from Ravana how she killed you. No matter how many times she had to kill you - you kept coming back...
* AttractiveBentGender: Discussed. It's noted multiple times by others how Leez looks so much like her father and, at one point, Teo outright says that the adult leez appearance is essentially [[{{Bifauxnen}} a girl version of Rao.]]
* AudienceSurrogate: Initially, Leez knew very little about sura and magic, so having things explained to her was a way to have them explained to the audience.
* AutoRevive: One of the powers she gets from the Golden Knight, though it drains all her vigor when it goes off.
* BadassOnPaper: She's incredibly strong, is in possession of two insanely powerful magical artifacts, and has even learned physical augmentation magic, but is still consistently overmatched by all the godlike beings in the story, and is also suppressing herself quite a lot emotionally. She grows into a proper badass as time goes on. According to Mirha's observations, with the Golden Knight and the Sword of Return she's the strongest human fighter on the ''planet'', outside of Kasak (who can turn into a giant dragon).
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Why she gives Ran the Neutral Bow, despite how badly she wanted it at first. As she puts it, the kind words he said while sticking up for her against Asha were worth far more than anything she could get for the bow.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Downplayed. She has a voluptuous body instead of androgynous and, although it [[GenericCuteness isn't reflected in the way she's drawn]], the author's notes say that even after the TimeSkip, she's more "handsome" than beautiful, since she resembles her father.
-->'''Author Comm - S3, Chpt 266:''' ''(Image: Agni & Leez) Handsome X Handsome: People often ask me if Leez is officially a beauty or how much of a beauty she is... If you look in the webtoon, there are very few who call Leez pretty. There are many who say she looks like Rao. But Rao is a man…
* BigEater: Food is never far from Leez's mind. In fact, it's often the first thing she thinks of in new places: eating the local specialties (in copious amounts). It takes a sadder tone when it's revealed that she eats so much as a way of coping with stress.
* BigSisterInstinct: To Yuta, partially due to the fact that she doesn't know that he's actually much older and stronger than her. Not any more after his development into third stage.
* ABirthdayNotABreak: Her 16th birthday was the start of it all. More recently, she spent seven years in the sura realm, which pretty much means seven birthdays focused on survival and likely nothing more.
* BookDumb: Although she's not so much ''dumb'' as she is simply ignorant of the world around her, due to never being able to leave her village or go to school.
* BreakTheCutie: Her village's destruction broke her. [[spoiler:After Asha reveals she was just using her and only spared her life because of her father, she breaks even more]].
* BrokenBird: After the destruction of her village, although she hides it well. [[spoiler:After it becomes clear that Asha was using her, she no longer bothers to hide it.]]
* BrokenPedestal: While she was quite pious originally, seven years in the sura realm lead her to see gods as bullies. The true reason behind this change were not completely explained yet. [[spoiler:On a more personal note, it seems she no longer holds Mister in the same high regard as she did before, just like he predicted. She even calls him incompetent when they meet in Konchez.]]
* ButterFace: Although she's drawn much the same as everyone else, it's made clear by everyone's reactions that she's actually kinda ugly; the author specifically describes her as a 'butterface' in their notes. Every once in a while she's drawn "realistically," and turns into a {{gonk}}. On the other hand, it's made clear that [[SheIsAllGrownUp when she's a few years older]]...
-->'''Author Comm - S1, Chpt 5:''' I carefully drew that image of Leez for those who wanted a pretty view of her. Keep in mind, however, that Leez is not a pretty character at all. Her face as you see it normally drawn... is a lot more beautified than her normal face.
* TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive: And it's willing to nuke it out of existence.
* CantHaveSexEver: With Yuta. During the 7 year time-skip, whenever she and Yuta tried to get intimate, his natural instincts takes over and she ends up getting partially or half-eaten and killed. Leez doesn't blame Yuta and was okay with trying again, seeing as she has the bracelet, but Yuta became distraught and stops any further attempts as even if he didn't mean it he knows its not right.
* CharacterDevelopment: From IdiotHero to ExtremeDoormat to a rare heroic version of BecameTheirOwnAntithesis.
* TheChewToy: A rather sad example. Everything she's known and loved has been destroyed, and her primary protector, Asha, doesn't show the least bit of respect for her. She knows at some level that Asha is not trustworthy, but she's so desperate to avoid being abandoned that she keeps playing the ditz act and suffers whatever criticism comes her way. To top it off, seven years spent in the sura realm meant she ended up being the target of several powerful suras.
** There is a high chance that [[spoiler: her soul is that of the Agni's and Ancient Brilith's unborn child]], which was cursed to live a profoundly unhappy existence much like her mother. [[spoiler: The other strong possibility for this souls current residence is Asha.]]
* ChildhoodFriends: With Kaz and Haas.
* TheChosenOne: This is not exclusive to Leez as, in the battle of the Gods, [[TheChosenMany each of them have chosen their own key players]]. However, it is uncertain which God, or Gods, chose Leez. In the beginning, it's said that she is supposed to have a happy fate as someone told her father that giving her the name Kubera would grant her a happy life. [[spoiler: God Visnu also reveals to Asha that Leez was destined to be greater than her if she doesn't take action by killing Rao.]] That, along with whatever else unknown future about Leez, causes great envy and resentment from Asha toward Leez. That said, as the story goes on, it quickly seems to point toward the notion that being the chosen one was never really something to be excited about and that [[ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne there actually never was a good ending for Leez.]]
-->'''[Leez Mom]:''' ''[S1 Ep 42]'' someone told your dad, before you were born, that if he named his soon to be born child Kubera, and raised them under the name for 15 years, they would grow happier than anyone [...] after you turn 15 your life will be full of only happy things.
-->'''[God Visnu]:''' ''[S2 Special Ep]'' However, if he arrives in Willarv alive, it will result in a powerful competitor who will take over the position you desire. On planet Willarv there is a candidate chosen not by me, but another God. This is someone younger than you, but born with enormous potential. As things are now, you have no hope of overtaking someone like that. [[spoiler: However, if you shut down the engine room, forcing a particular sacrifice, then the life of the child favored to win will instead become a living hell. With body and mind torn, that childs odds of winning will turn from the best to the worst. And her glorious destiny of continually occupying the seat in front of you will plummet to a life of nothing more than chasing your tail.]]
* ClingyCostume: [[spoiler:The Hide of Bondage, after being modified with Yuta's scarf, is this. She can take it off, but if she gets more than a few feet away from it, it will reach out and grab her.]]
* ClingyMacGuffin: She has a tendency to collect these. She can't remove the Golden Knight without cutting off her arm, she can't get rid of the modified Hide of Bondage, and while she technically ''can'' leave the Sword of Return behind, doing so would just mean she'd be stuck with all its disadvantages and none of its advantages.
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: In-universe, in a way. Leez can only accept Asha's CallToAdventure because she lost her family and village - ''however'', it can be argued that reasons she's this are all linked to Asha one way or another. [[spoiler:It was Asha the one who murdered Rao]], and although she wasn't responsible for it, she's very much connected to the reason behind the red sky attacks. Leez being an orphan meant that Asha could toss her around whatever way she wanted, because not only Leez did not have anyone to defend her (at least until Ran showed up), but she wouldn't defend herself out of fear of abandonment. Her lack of family or other connections also meant she was easy prey to whoever wished to use her, such as Claude suggesting Yuta be allowed [[spoiler:to devoure her as many times he wanted because of the Golden Knight]] - which wouldn't be possible if her parents were around to defend her, as she wouldn't even be there in the first place. Yes, Leez being orphaned was very convenient to everyone - except Leez herself.
* CryIntoChest: When she meets Yuta after [[spoiler:the battle at Aeroplateau and Rindhallow]], she winds up crying into his chest.
* CuteBruiser: She packs a ''very'' surprising wallop, even though she's not the smallest girl you'll meet. Just ask the two gods she surprised when she hit out at them in passing, as it actually hurt.
* DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou: What she hopes is the case, as she would rather her father be unable to reach her than dead.
* DangerousSixteenthBirthday: Her village is destroyed the day she turns 16.
* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: [[spoiler:During the later half of season two she becomes a deconstruction of a typical shoujo romance heroine. Her original headstrong [[TheLadette Lad-ette]] personality slowly becomes replaced by a standardized ExtremeDoormat - because a chain of tragedies and escalating emotional abuse from the person she trusted the most robbed her of all self-confidence and left her an emotional wreck. She eventually TakesALevelInBadass and recovers her sense of self again, but it’s clear the old Leez no longer exists.]]
* DespairEventHorizon:[[spoiler:Seems to have crossed it as of the "Your Justice and Mine" arc.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Tells Asha "If it's not possible, I'll '''make''' it possible."
* DisappearedDad: While the full situation is unknown, she has never met her father. She hopes he's alive, but their aren't indications otherwise. As it turns out, [[spoiler:Rao is actually dead, killed by none other than]] [[spoiler:Asha herself]].
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Played with. She doesn't know the full extent of what she can do, as she's still learning and has been kept very much in the dark. But, she knows she can cause havoc if she's not careful, so panics if she accidentally lets loose without thinking. This is often played for humor... but, not always. Both God Kubera and Agni note that she could accidentally kill a human in one hit if she wasn't careful. Fortunately, she eventually gets a PowerLimiter.
* DoomedHometown: This is what kicks her whole journey off.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: [[spoiler:Gets these more and more often as she graduates from simply hiding the amount of grief she’s carrying to becoming a full on StepfordSmiler.]]
* DudeWheresMyRespect: [[spoiler: Asha treats Yuta with a fair amount of respect from the start and gradually begins to treat Ran as an equal as time goes on. Unfortunately, her treatment of Leez only gets worse.]].
* FakingAmnesia: This is one of the ways she tries to keep the "peace" in the group whenever there is an issue, centering her, that strains their relationship or causing problems for the group overall. It's also one of the way she tries to bury her trauma so she doesn't crack. She gets really good at it to the point she is able [[SelfServingMemory to deceive her self into believing it's actually true.]]
** When Yuta's instinct gets the better of him, and he eats her face, she pretends to not have remembered as she thinks it will help him stay and also make Ran and Asha to stop fighting over whether or not Yuta should be allowed to be around her in case it causes her trauma.
** She pretends, for a little while, to not have remembered the fact that her mother died 10 years earlier N5 instead of N15 when a friend of he mother called her out on "lying" about the actual death date of her mother. [[spoiler: It's revealed that she had a repressed memory in which, when she was 5 year old, God Kubera was the one who created fake versions of the people in the village them to live with her as she wished they would come back.]]
* FamedInStory: She becomes known as "the girl that drew the Sword of Return". Disappearing with it for seven years makes her even more well-known.
* {{Fangirl}}: Mildly, for Kasak. She expresses an interest in meeting him, as the famous sole dragon Half, and after she does, she then wants the chance to see his dragon form. Considering they go on to be FireForgedFriends, she becomes something of an AscendedFangirl.
* FantasticRacism: She doesn't have much of an opinion on sura, except extreme hatred for Garuda clan Rakshasa like the one that destroyed her village. [[spoiler:After seeing the memories she recovered from her implied summoning of a god from when she was five years old,]] Yuta says [[spoiler:Maruna's attack was not the only reason for her to hate the Garuda clan so much.]]
* FearlessFool: Part of Leez's reputation in the sura realm is this due to her actions in which [[AttackAttackAttack she continously got into countless battles with Nastika and kept getting killed because of it.]] Knowing Leez, she probably did have a good reason to be mad at them but it's lampshaded by Vayu that she shouldn't start a battle she knows she can't win and that even the gods, who can infinitely resurrect, wouldn't do what she does. Even Chandra is unnerved when he finds out. As for what she has to say about the situation?:
-->'''[Vayu]:''' Aren't you afraid? you don't seem to cower even in front of those much stronger than the Gods.
-->'''[Leez]:''' [[ResurrectiveImmortality Well it's all thanks to this bracelet.]] I wouldn't have one it if I only had one life[...] [[FeelNoPain wasn't there a moment for you where you felt that physical pain was nothing?]]
* FeelNoPain: As the series goes own, with Leez self-esteem going to an all time low due to the [[BreakTheCutie betrayals and traumas she faces]], she eventually finds herself "getting used" to physical pain by having no issues with [[LeeroyJenkins throwing herself into dangerous situations]] that get her seriously hurt and even commits sucidal actions to "help" train herself. She admits to Mihra that [[BrokenBird physical pain is more preferable than emotional or physcological pain]] and outright says to Vayu that there are times where she felt that physical pain was nothing.
** We see more of this explored in season 3 where, when in battle with the Nastika or Sura, Leez often gets killed or sustains major injuries but she mostly only winces(ranging from low to high) and grits her teeth when it occurs. [[CurbStompBattle Kali, during her fight with Leez, even comments on her high-pain tolerance]] and Indra is seen taking advantage of [[NotAfraidToDie Leez issues extending from her tolerance]] by goading her to fight an unwinnable battle with Ravana so as to hone her skills so she can be a more useful pawn.
-->'''[Kali]:''' wow...you're tough I'll give you that. You didn't even scream when you lost your limbs.
* FireForgedFriends: She admits that they can't quite be called close, but spending seven years in the sura realm with Kasak--the only other human--has made them better friends.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Ananta. See his entry.
** To Asha:
*** Asha considers everything she gets her hands on to be hers, even things she didn't earn. Leez never considers any of her powers, artifacts, or abilities to be hers, even the ones she suffered greatly to earn. Asha mocks this specifically.
*** Leez was born with great power (and destined to even more), but never wanted it; Asha was born and originally destined to be powerless, and would do anything for more.
*** Asha sacrificed countless other people to empower herself. Leez repeatedly sacrifices ''herself'', both to help others and to do things like master ''Bhavati Kubera''.
* FutureBadass: If the various Insights of either "Mister", Agni or Taraka are anything to go by.
* GenericCuteness: Explicitly invoked. The author includes an out-of-character note from their AuthorAvatar that the usual cute-ish image we see of Leez is just the author self-indulgently making her lead character look more beautiful than she really is, and that she's actually somewhat ugly. ('Butterface' is the specific term used.)
* GeniusDitz: Despite never being able to go to school, she is very perspective, intuitive, and has excellent recall. She can remember conversations word-for-word.
* GenkiGirl: She's very cheerful, energetic, will share her fleeting impressions on most things to anybody in earshot, is quick to hug and is quite loud and appreciative. She appears to be deliberately playing this up due to her fear of abandonment.
* GivenNameReveal: [[spoiler:When we finally see what her name looks like from the perspective of Claude's time-of-death vision, it turns out to be Kubera Leez ''Ananta''.]]
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler:The first time she fights Maruna. She is possessed by ''her future self'' due to Kali's meddling. Or, depending on how you look at it, she possess herself.]]
* HeroWithBadPublicity: After returning from the sura realm, Leez decides to go public with being Rao Leez's daughter. Problem is, most people refuse to believe her, and think she's a fraud despite the fact that she is, you know, [[StrongFamilyResemblance his spitting image]]. [[InsaneTrollLogic They think she went through some kind of sura modification process to look like him]]. [[spoiler: It's revealed that part of this denial is largely due to the issue surrounding Rao's extremely large inheritance in which the law states that it's supposed to go to Leez(Rao's kin), whereas, if there is no kin - it will go to the guild]]. Thusly, her reputation is not quite the best. Teo is aware of this, but tries to downplay it as much as possible, as they can't risk losing her support.
* HiddenDepths: Very much so. And, so hidden, ''she'' has no idea how deep they go. At the very least, it's obvious she's playing up the ditz act both to suppress her own inner suffering and out of an intense fear of abandonment, and she's aware of much more than she's letting on. Even to herself.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: In Season 3, she treats Yuta distantly, surprising Ran who calls her out for inexplicably being mean to him. [[spoiler:It's because she knows Yuta is trying not to love her--so as to quiet his HorrorHunger around her--and thus treating him with her usual affection will only make things harder for him. She has to remind herself not to smile around him.]]
* HopeSpot: In Aeroplateu, she meets Mirha and the two of them form a bond. As Asha's trial is underway, Mirha informas Asha that she will take care of Leez from now on. After all the shit Asha put the poor girl through (for absolutely no reason ''at all''), it seems things will finally started going the right way for her... but then everything goes to hell in the most absolute way possible.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: [[spoiler: Ultimately averted for the little good it does her. She knows both Asha and "Mister" are behaving suspiciously, and she initially yells at them for it. However, she changes her mind about them after they come to her aid in situations where it would be very easy to simply leave her behind. Near the end of season two, one leaves her practically an EmptyShell of her former self and the other turns out to be the mastermind behind the red sky attacks which destroyed her village.]]
* HumbleHero: When Brilith tells her she ought to boast more about her power, lest she want to be known as just "the girl who drew the Sword of Re" forever, Leez points out that that ''is'' all she really did and it doesn't feel right to brag about abilities that were pretty much given to her. Next to the SmugSuper attitude of the sura and gods, Brilith finds Leez's outlook refreshing.
* IdiotHero: She's more ignorant than idiotic, having flashes of brilliance when she's allowed enough information to work with and time to think.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: The reason she does not (outwardly) question Asha's actions.
* IMissMom: As multiple gods' insights show.
* InterspeciesRomance: She's a pureblood, Yuta is a Rakshasa. Except that, like everything else in ''Kubera'', it's not that simple: [[spoiler:they actually tried during the seven years spent in the sura realm but nothing will ever come out of this, it seems, because of the small detail that ''Yuta has a compulsion for eating those he loves''. They end up giving up on it.]]
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: [[spoiler: It's still unknown which of the God or Gods actually chose Leez as their own key player but, as the story goes own it heavily and repeatedly implied that the fate they have for her is really not something to look forward to even if she acts in the role of a hero. It's later revealed that her, along with many others, being given the name Kubera was part of a deal/game Visnu and Kali made with Manasavin and God Kubera over getting the power and name of Ananta and that it had nothing to do with granting happiness as the humans with the names Kubera were really set up to be lambs to slaughter]].
-->'''[unknown]'': What meaning is there in saving them? A child-like sense of heroism? A delusion of justice that you wish to be true? Or perhaps you are simply being deceived as you always have been. You run, stumble, get ripped apart thousands of times, you are gashed, torn apart, eaten, and yet you rise back up and fight as if giving up has no meaning to you. You save those who drove you towards certain death. You forgive the enemies who destroyed your life. But, ultimately after all that, what remains? Here stands a benevolent hero, one who saved the world which abandoned her...Even if only such a legend remains then maybe it would be worthwhile but sadly in the end, you will not be the one praised. That honor and recognition will go to someone else. Only you will know the struggle and pain. Your body, which endured so much strife, your heart, ripped to shreds, your memories, holding only pain, your soul, bereft of dignity, your entire existence, now one with the name. All of it will be lost. And just like that - you will disappear from this world.
* LeeroyJenkins: More than a few times, Leez basically plows forwards taking the simple "smash at big thing with fists/sword" approach to combat. However, it's justified, played with, subverted ''and'' deconstructed.
** She has a tendency to throw herself at enemies she knows are vastly superior to her in strength -- mainly because those are the only kind she tends to get aimed at her. Often justified, as she mainly does this when defending others, or when alternative means to solve the issues aren't apparent to her because of her perceptual or knowledge deficiencies: she can't communicate easily with Sura to find out what is going on and why they keep showing up. That, and they (as well as other very powerful people) have reasons to want to kill her. Also, she knows for sure that she's more durable than most, she has ''pitiful'' levels of self-worth and has been actively held back from learning more diverse fighting styles and tactics. "Attack!" is basically all she has as a tool to work with.
** Her current fighting style entails throwing herself at the enemy, getting one or two hits in, being tossed around like a ragdoll, regenerating, and then repeating this. This is more effective than it sounds, but the toll on her is hideous.
* LettingHerHairDown: She stops wearing her GirlishPigtails after her DespairEventHorizon.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Kaz (the author notes that she developed a PrecociousCrush on Haas because Kaz was the only other boy around, indicating that there were zero romantic feelings between them despite their closeness). Later, with Ran, to the extent that Leez admits she wishes he was her actual relative.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Asha and others actively keep her in the dark about a lot of what's going on. This does not help her already crumbling mental state.
* LonelyAtTheTop: Similar to her father to an extent, many insights from the Gods implies that she will eventually become a very lonely and powerful being who fights long and countless battles to protect her name. God Vayu encourages her to be truer to herself, unlike Rao, or else she won't be able to have anybody to depend on emotionally as they won't know the true her.
* LoserProtagonist: At first. She does grow much stronger physically, but the events of the webtoon have a significant negative effect on her mentally.
* MadeOfIron: She is far more durable than a pureblood teenage girl should be. She is also very resistant against cold temperatures, swimming in the frigid water channel (which the author notes would give most people cardiac arrest). [[spoiler:It's revealed after she gains the Sword of Return that she had regenerative abilities beyond that of a normal human as well, though the sword now suppresses them. Apparently it’s the result of Leez having the [[TheChosenMany name of a name of a God.]]]]
* {{Masquerade}}: Her whole life is basically this. She goes by the name "Leez Haias", but her actual name is Kubera Leez. She wasn't allowed to leave her village - even to go to school - because of this. Recent revelations in season three [[spoiler:imply even her life before the destruction of her village was this to some extent: it seems the villagers died ten years before Maruna's attack, but Leez believed they were alive for some reason. This is yet to be properly explained.]]
* MissingMom: Anna vanished with her village's destruction. It is unknown whether she's alive or dead.
* MoralityPet: Possibly to Asha. [[spoiler:She isn't]].
* NomDeMom: She took on her mother's last name and uses her father's last name as her first name as an alias.
* NotAfraidToDie: She fully accepts that she could die trying for her revenge. This is only reinforced when she learns [[spoiler:of her short lifespan]].
** During the attack on Aeroplateau, she thinks this word for word.
* NotHyperbole: When they meet for the first time in Season 3, Leez warns Brilith that the universe is near destruction. A gobsmacked Brilith asks if she means the planet, or perhaps the galaxy. No, situation really is that serious.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: She's far smarter than she appears, mainly being BookDumb, but she is engaging in a lot of hardcore self repression. She seems like an airheaded ditz, but time progresses, the more clear it becomes that she's actually quite sharp, but also much more emotionally fragile than her outward behavior suggests.
* OnlyKnownByHerNickname: She goes by Leez Haias (a combination of her parents surnames) to hide her real name, which is a god's. She's still referred to as Leez after her real name is revealed.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: In a dream, she begs her mother not to leave her.
** [[spoiler:If the memories she recovered are anything to go by, she also did something similar when she was a child.]]
** On an even more depressing note, this is the reason why she clings to Asha despite all the abuse: Leez is terrified of being left alone. She clings to Yuta in a similar way--in his case, with physical aggression included.
* PluckyGirl: Frequently jumps into battles she can't win. Her lack of worry over her own safety it's actually one of her major psychological issues.
* {{Revenge}}: For her village. [[spoiler:And as of the end of season 2, her father Rao.]]
* RevengeBeforeReason: ''Yes''. Leez simply cannot let go of her need for vengeance, not even after learning that her target is Yuta's brother - [[spoiler:she would rather erase the memory than giving up.]] As Chandra himself states in season three (ep 3-73/358):
-->'''Chandra''': If I entrust it[[note]]The Eye of Perishment[[/note]] to Leez, she'll probably die rather than let Maruna develop.
** Eventually subverted [[spoiler:in regards to Maruna. After learning the truth about her village, she gives up on killing him entirely]]; that doesn't mean she likes him, though. It seems that this is still played straight when it comes to [[spoiler:Asha]].
* SecretSecretKeeper: [[spoiler:She figures out that Yuta is a sura long before he reveals it to her. She simply kept quiet about it because she hoped he'd trust her enough to tell her himself someday.]]
* SelfServingMemory: Whenever things become too much to handle psychologically and emotionally, Leez intentionally or subconsciously lies to herself, and believes that lie, so that she doesn't break and keep a positive/calm attitude. An extreme example is when Leez finds out from Yuta that Maruna, the one who destroyed her village, is his brother, [[RevengeBeforeReason she deceives herself into believing that Yuta never told her]] because she is unable to give up her revenge as it's one of her main reasons for living. He has to tell her countless times and it still doesn't work. [[spoiler: Turns out he never killed them as they were gone years before he got there and the ones he "killed" were fake.]]
* SheCleansUpNicely: When Mirha puts makeup on her, Yuta [[DistractedByTheSexy gets so distracted]] that he falls off of the tree branch he was standing on.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: The narrative makes it clear that the version we usually see is actually pretty ugly, even if GenericCuteness covers it up; but when she gets a temporary PlotRelevantAgeUp, it's made clear that in a few years [[{{Bifauxnen}} she will be very attractive]].
* SpannerInTheWorks: [[spoiler:Her giving Yuta his moniker was this to Kali's plans to some level. Him recognizing "Yuta" as his name weakened his true name given to him by his mother, and thus put quite a bit of her plans in jeopardy. Kali herself, however, doesn't consider this to be a major loss as much as something annoying, as she predicted Leez would only be a small detour in her plans.]]
* StatuesqueStunner: At 24 years old it's shown that she has really grown into her looks and stands taller than Yuta at 5'10(179cm).
-->'''Author Comm - S3, Chpt 39:''' How tall is Leez...? Leez was already 17 years old in Season 2. If you ask me if a woman can grow so much taller after that age [...] the period of physical growth in the world of Kubera would be until the age of 16 to 20 years [...] Not only has Leez grown taller, but so has Ran.
--> '''Asha - S2, Chpt 29:''' It could be no one else but keez if she had curly blue-green hair with a voluptuous body and power.
* StepfordSmiler: Inside, she's hurting badly. Her whole GenkiGirl outlook isn't a lie. But she is playing it up to both keep herself going and not alienate others. [[spoiler:The facade finally cracks completely in ''Your Justice And Mine''. She reveals that she really was aware of everything that was going on, yet she couldn't bring herself to leave Asha because she thought she had nothing else to live for.]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Leez as an adult is said to look exactly like [[AttractiveBentGender a female version of her father.]]
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: Somewhat fit the "innocent child" trope [[spoiler: before her shift, and more was revealed about her past.]] The roles of the Wise Wife and Sexy Seductress are taken by Brilith and Sagara respectively.
* TongueTied:
** She can't talk about god Kubera.
** And again in Season 3, but this time [[spoiler:about Kali]]. Luckily for her, she's trying to explain this to Agni, who's aware of this effect and easily deduces what's going on.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Curry Mushrooms.
* TurnOutLikeHisFather: Vayu warns her that she's walking the same path Rao did: powerful human figher, short, lonely life. In many ways, her story if pretty much a repeat of her father's.
* WeaknessTurnsHerOn: According to her profile, she likes men who are weaker than her. This is successfully invoked by Yuta, who [[WillfullyWeak pretends to be weaker]] than her, until his true nature is [[PlotRelevantAgeUp revealed]] and they later become a couple during the seven year time skip. [[spoiler: Unfortunately, because of [[HorrorHunger his nature]] he decides to break it off with her as it's ultimately [[BreakHisHeartToSaveHim not going to be a healthy relationship for him or her.]] While she reluctantly accepts, it's clear that the feelings between them are still there to which Yuta tries to sever those feelings so it's easier for her and him to move on.]]
* WhenSheSmiles: As the story goes on Leez genuine smiles turn into {{Stepford Smiler}} ones and is eventually non-existent during Asha's trial which Yuta expresses his disappointment about. Although, in his case, it's a bitter benefit as her smiling will definitely warm his heart but also trigger his monster eating instincts toward her. Years later, as an adult, she's much harden, and thus, isn't shown smiling as much as noted by the author. This is why it's quite nice when we ''do'' see her smile to which even God Kubera expresses disappointment that he might not be able to see her future self smile for him
* WorkingClassHero: Subverted. While Leez ''is'' smart and talented, her lack of formal education proves a great drawback to her. Her attempts at learning Kubera magic are successful, but extremely costly. Besides, her lack of financial resources and knowledge about the world makes her dependent on people who want to prey on her weaknesses - like Asha herself.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:She will die at the latest, in her mid-twenties.]] [[spoiler:It's implied this is a result of her having summoned a god as a child, but as of now there is very little information about it.]]
* YouKilledMyFather: Leez is utterly enraged when Asha reveals who killed Rao, [[spoiler:Asha herself.]]

Leez's mother; almost nothing is known about her, though there are some hints that she may be more important than she seemed at first.
----
* ActionGirl: According to her friends.
* FantasticRacism: Completely averted. Anna was known for befriending halfs.
* HiddenDepths: She's simply one of Leez's (many) trauma fuels, right? Wrong. It seems there was far more to Anna than it meets the eye. For instance:
** She and Rao got together. He was known for being so disinterested in women that people actually thought he was gay. The fact that they kept their relationship a secret implies that whatever it was that Rao was involved in, Anna was at least in the loop, or had some sort of knowledge that at least something was going on.
** She was a fighter before the Cataclysm, known for having half friends.
** Rao named Leez "Kubera", but it seems it was Anna the one who instructed their daughter not to say this name to people after her 16th birthday. Also, she never allowed Leez outside of their village - in other words, she seemed to have at least some sort of awareness of the danger her daughter would be in if the was outed as a Kubera.
** Last but not least, it seems that for some reason people thought she [[spoiler:died]] in N5, as season three shows. What ''actually'' happened to her [[spoiler:and, it seems, to Leez's whole village]] that year is a mystery.
* MysteriousParent: Possibly even more so than Rao. We know the city he (probably) came from, how he died, what sort of reputation he had, and, from some comments, even a bit about his personality. Anna is a question mark.
* RetiredBadass: She fought in the war that ended with the Cataclysm, and was known for having many Half friends.

Leez's father, a legendary warrior who mysteriously vanished years ago.
----
* TheAce: One of the most famous fighters of his generation. He was so famous even suras knew about him.
* ActionDad: He was a legendary warrior and Leez's father, though she was born while he was on a rescue mission.
* BlowYouAway: As a triple Vayu, this should be obvious. His godly item - the Neutral Bow - was created by Vayu for Rao in specific, and works by shooting, well, tornadoes.
* ChallengeSeeker: According to Ran.
* DisappearedDad: To Leez, though not by his own choice; he was trapped away from his family when the Cataclysm occurred, and never made it home. Although it's worth noticing that he knew Anna was pregnant before going to the mission on Carte, even Ran lampshades that if he really didn't want to die and see Anna and Leez, he shouldn't have left them in the first place, take in account that Ran was very close to Rao, so it must have been hard for him to admit this.
* GenerationXerox: An extremely powerful pureblood human fighter that can use transcendentals, is acquainted with gods and high-rank suras, uses extremely powerful godly objects that were handed to them by the very gods that created them and is doomed to live a [[spoiler:short]], lonely life. Leez or Rao?
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He died getting the Carte transport ship to Willarv safely.]]
* HesitantSacrifice: Implied to be in conjunction with his HeroicSacrifice. [[spoiler: He was last seen on the Carte transport ship to Willarv, before getting it to safety, crying about how he didn't want to die, and wanted to see his wife and daughter again.]]
--> '''Rao''': [[spoiler: (crying to himself) Anna, I want to live. I want to live so that I can see you again. And... [[DisappearedDad I really want to hold our baby in my arms just once.]]]]
* IntergenerationalFriendship: He and Ran were pretty close when the latter was a child. Slightly subverted in that, due to the fact that Ran is a quarter, they weren't that apart in age as this trope would imply.
* ItRunsInTheFamily: When describing how Rao's child would be if it took after him, Ran describes... Leez. There are even hints that, just like her, he wasn't as easy-going and bubbly as he presented himself as.
* LonelyAtTheTop: According to [[spoiler: Vayu]], Rao led a very lonely life despite being so popular and powerful, [[spoiler:and Leez is going down the same path]].
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: The only time he was ever reported to be seen crying was shortly before his disappearance. [[spoiler:He wanted to be able to hold his child at least once.]]
* PalsWithJesus: [[spoiler:As it turns out, he was friends with ''Ananta''.]]
* PosthumousCharacter: At least as far as anyone knows, although they NeverFoundTheBody, and there is at least one report of him after his supposed death. Unfortunately, that report is supposedly his ''actual'' death.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Anna-sexual, it seems. Characters that knew him were shocked to learn he had ever married, as apparently Rao never showed interest in anyone.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: After she grows older, Leez is said to be his spitting image.

A childhood friend of Leez and Haas' younger brother. He was taken care of by Anna.
----
* BornLucky: He seems to have some kind of luck or foresight. He left the village before it was destroyed in order to buy Leez a birthday present, and told his brother they should wait at the magic guild during the attack on Atera before they open it up to refugees. He was also one of the very few babies that were born with triple Nil attributes and still managed to survive into adulthood.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Leez.
* GuileHero: He doesn't have much in the way of combat skills, but is ''very'' good at weaving his way through situations through sheer wits. Teo even remarks that it scares her with how fast Kaz catches onto things.
* HiddenDepths: Very much so, as much in-universe as out.
* ImmuneToMindControl: [[spoiler:The illusion placed on the surviving children of their village--Leez, Haas, and himself--failed to work on Kaz, leaving him as the only person to remember the truth of what happened in N5.]]
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Leez. His survival, had she known, would've been enough to make her give up on her revenge at the start, and he names his cat after her, but there's no romance between them.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: He ''would'' have been this for Leez... if she'd known he was still alive. Now, it's too late.
* MadeOfIron: He's more durable than he looks, which is how he can take the brunt of Leez's full strength.
* NonActionGuy: His triple Nil attributes make magic a hopeless cause for him, and he's not much of a physical fighter either (unusually for the series, where most human characters range from somewhere in the spectrum between SquishyWizard to KungFuWizard to MagicallyIneptFighter).
* NotQuiteDead: He and his brother survive the destruction of the village.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Maruna, to his great misfortune, found out the hard way.
* ThePrankster: At first Leez thinks that the destruction of the village was one of Kaz's pranks.
* SecretKeeper: On good terms with Shess, whom he knows to be a rakshasa.
* WeNamedTheMonkeyJack: He names the cat he was originally going to gift Leez after her.

* ChildhoodFriends: With Leez.
* EyesOutOfSight: His eyes are never shown. Either his bangs cover them or he's drawn as a blue blob.

The current Priestess of Fire, who summoned the fire god Agni when she was a child.
----
* AchillesHeel: Agni's. He may be the strongest being on Willarv, but he can only last as long as Brilith is alive, so targeting her is a good way to keep him restrained.
* AwfulTruth: After the events of the Your Justice and Mine arc, [[spoiler:Asha's true nature]] becomes this to her. [[spoiler:Agni even asks Leez to refrain from mentioning Asha anywhere in Atera.]]
* BadassBookworm: She's an avid reader, [[spoiler:in this life and in the early universe when she was a scientist]]. The badass part comes into play after she TookALevelInBadass.
* BadassOnPaper: After the {{Timeskip}} she's one of the top two ranked magicians on Willarv for having summoned a god. Aside from that one achievement, however, she's much weaker than many of the magicians she technically outranks--pre-RankUp, her rank was 30 (and keep in mind that was with Agni secretly correcting her calculations for her). [[spoiler:Not so much after she awakens, at which point she truly does become the strongest magician in the world.]]
* BarrierMaiden: Subverted. Other people thought she was the one who responsible for the barrier, but it was Agni who actually did the job for her while she maintained his existence in the human realm.
** Played straight later on, when she actually has to maintain the barrier herself. Other characters notice that it's not nearly as strong as it was before.
* BloodFromTheMouth: During both attacks on Atera.
* BornUnlucky: [[spoiler:The gods feared that she would one day become a threat, as a survivor of the ancient human race, and so decided to curse her with constant misfortune in all her lives to prevent that. All that the few gods on her side could do was at least bless her to encounter Agni in as many lives as possible.]]
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:Asha's true nature broke her hard enough that whereas the effects of Asha disappearing cause most people to immediately move on when she's brought up, Brilith has a mental breakdown without understanding why when Leez mentions her. Once people's memory of her returns, Claude correctly deduces that Brilith will be the worst off.]]
* BrokenBird: [[spoiler:After she awakens, she becomes a textbook example. Traumatized, cynical, ruthless, and detached, especially to her LoveInterest Agni, along with acting as an experienced figure to Leez.]]
* CleavageWindow: Her new outfit after the second attack on Atera has one. She actually wears a dress under it to shrink the window a bit.
* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: Invoked. As the Priestess of Fire, Brilith knows people expect to see her in red. She actually resents it a little since she doesn't even like red that much, and it's why she wears a blue dress in Season 2 (Agni didn't like it at first--it's ''Gandharva's'' colour!--but quickly relented when he realized how much it meant to Brilith).
* CovertPervert: She has to present a pure image as a Priestess, scolds Agni for reading erotica, and gets extremely embarrassed at any physical affection--but if Agni's use of insight is to be believed, she's had quite a few dirty thoughts about him...
* CruelMercy: During the attack on Kalibloom on season 3, Pingara allows themselves to be attacked by her to let the others escape, and when at Brilith's mercy asks to be killed, [[PayEvilUntoEvil too bad Brilith has other ideas]] because she remembers the humans they killed 8 years ago in Atera and thinks they have no right to ask for death, also because she knows Pingara has valuable information on Sagara and her plans.
* {{Determinator}}: She resists and tries to attack Sagara despite knowing that she is hopelessly outmatched.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Inverted. [[spoiler:She was quite sweet and kind before the TimeSkip, but after recovering her memories she became colder and far more ruthless. So maybe a Freezing Fire Queen.]]
* DespairEventHorizon: Delayed. [[spoiler: Asha's betrayal. It was the thought of Asha that kept her from accepting death, so as soon as Asha did the unforgivable, Brilith was left in shock and her vigor plummeted. What's worse, since Asha used hoti visnu and disappeared, she never did have enough time to truly mend, as Brilith didn't even remember why she felt so anguished over Asha. It was Asha and her sudden appearances in Brilith's dreams that triggered Brilith to remember her past life memories.]]
* {{Dramatic Irony}}: As of season 3 we are shown more and more of her life as a member of the ancient human race, she was one of the few that by the time of their destruction was ''still'' optimistic about humans and suras being able to live peacefully together [[spoiler: on account on two of her incarnations having met the time traveling Maruna who rescued her on her first one and at least attempted to save her an her planet on the second one, making it {{Harsher in Hindsight}} that when she recovers her memories and sees him she immediately tries to kill him, as the only thing she sees him as is a sura and therefore, must die.]]
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:Every time she's regained her memories of her past lives. This is the only time she's chosen to keep living, due to the universe being in peril.]]
* ElephantInTheLivingRoom: Her [[spoiler:drastic personality change]] has not gone unnoticed, but no one's sure if they should even bring it up.
* FantasticRacism: [[spoiler:After regaining her memories, she shows extreme hatred of both gods and suras, mainly nastikas. This stems from when the two races banded together to exterminate the first human race, of which she was a member. She and Leez even bond over their dislike for them.]]
* FieryRedhead: Subverted. She generally maintains [[TheStoic a very dignified manner]], keeping her real emotions inside, although she does open up around Agni.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Sagara. See her entry.
** To Ran as well. See his entry.
** Even to Asha. Brilith has rather weak calculation skills but was born with a high (2058) divine affinity, while Asha was born with a naturally high intellect, [[spoiler: but originally had a divine affinity so low she couldn't become a magician.]] Both of them were good students who grew up isolated from their peers; Brilith because of her [[LonelyRichKid status as the daughter of a priestess and everyone held her in high regard]], while Asha's peers saw her as [[InsufferableGenius arrogant and cold.]] Even their reasons for becoming good magicians differ; whereas Brilith wanted an A rank to [[WellDoneSonGuy follow in her mother's footsteps]], Asha [[spoiler: wanted to gain power and the means for revenge.]] It's a wonder how they became [[OddFriendship friends]]. Asha even points this out, albeit subtly.
--->'''Brilith''': I thought I had studied and practicied really hard, but compared to you, I'm really nothing. When I think of how much sweat and blood you put in to achieve such magic abilities...
--->'''Asha''': That's because [[EmbodimentOfVirtue you've only ever taken the brightest path...]]
--->'''Brilith''': Huh?
--->'''Asha''': What I mean is... [[spoiler: even if I told you how much effort I put in... you wouldn't be able to copy what I did.]] [[GoodCannotComprehendEvil In fact, you wouldn't even begin to understand.]]
* GlassCannon: [[spoiler:Awaking may have improved her magical abilities, but it does little for her physical ones.]]
* GoneHorriblyRight: How she feels about her success as a Priestess. Thanks to Agni, she set up a perfect barrier to protect Atera... meaning that all of the Priest candidates left for better prospects as they were no longer needed, [[NiceJobBreakingItHero leaving Atera with few mages and thus practically defenceless when Sagara and co. break the barrier and attack]].
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: She has low self-esteem and frequently feels she's a burden to Agni.
* ImperiledInPregnancy: [[spoiler:Flashbacks have her pregnant, crying and surrounded by flames and burned bodies. It's a memory from when she was carrying Agni's child, at the time that the ancient human race was annihilated.]]
* InterspeciesRomance: With Agni, a god.
** While it was unrequited, one of her past lives had a crush on [[spoiler: time traveling Maruna,]] whom she met on her very first life in the universe after he rescued her from a sura attack and spend the rest of her life with, when she has her coming of age ceremony in that particular life and crosses paths with him again, she knows that he's a sura, and while she doesn't say it out loud, all her coworkers tease her about said crush, not helped by the fact that [[CrushBlush she's not really subtle]] about it.
* JerkassHasAPoint: When she overhears Agwen expressing confusion over her distance from Agni--noting that if ''she'' had summoned a god, she'd always stay by their side--Brilith then replies that if her father was still alive, she'd always want to stay with him, making [[ParentalIssues Agwen's behaviour]] incomprehensible to ''her''. Afterwards, though, Agwen acknowledges that what Brilith said was valid.
* LadyAndKnight: The Lady to Agni's Knight, though she eventually comes to hate the role. [[spoiler:Especially after regaining her memories, though for entirely different reasons.]]
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Agni deliberately prevents information that could stress Brilith from reaching her. She's somewhat aware of this. This takes a toll on her self-esteem, as it makes her consider herself a burden.
* LonelyRichKid: As the daughter of a Priestess, she grew up mostly alone. Asha is her first (and only real) friend at first.
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: [[spoiler:For the current human race, memories and habits are ingrained in the body. As a result, despite being her "real" self in all but body, Brilith is still victim to the instincts of her current life--i.e. to be attracted to Agni and to want to protect Atera above all else. She hates it.]]
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: After recovering her memories, she seems very willing to murder and will generally go for the kill even if there are other ways to defuse a situation. Case in point, [[spoiler:her attempt on Maruna's life.]] While it's true he ''has'' crimes to pay for, he could also be a very valuable ally - and situation isn't quite one where humanity has the luxury to choose. Yet, she went for the kill without even thinking about it first.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When she thinks that Agni left because of her rudeness.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: [[spoiler:Once she becomes the "true" her--in her eyes, one human life (Kaz's) is an acceptable price to pay if it means killing Maruna, a Rakshasha who's killed so many. In a less callous vein, she's willing to bury her grudge against Gandharva, accepting his existence as ultimately beneficial to the universe.]]
* NoSympathyForGrudgeholders: Averted. While she became quite jerkass(-ish) after remembering her past(s), it's hard to blame her for it. Brilith having a negative opinion of - or outright despising - gods and suras comes off as justified given all the shit they put her through. The closest this trope came of being played straight was with Gandharva, but it was ultimately averted as he refused to apologize when given the chance. Also helping is the fact that she's unwilling to let her grudges cloud her judgement when it matters most, and ultimately has humanity's best interests in mind.
* ObliviousToLove: Played with. She's aware that Agni treats her as special, but she doesn't know if it's because she's his summoner and he'd strike a romance with any of them, or if it's because of ''her'' specifically.
* OddFriendship: With Leez, post-TimeSkip. [[spoiler:Of course, this doesn't mean she's unwilling to suspect her after Leez comes back from Konchez in weird circumstances. However, she choses to trust the girl, as Agni does.]] Not so surprising, considering they were both heavily traumatized by Asha and have similarly low opinions on gods and nastikas.
* OneTrueLove: With Agni, albeit a very dysfunctional version. [[spoiler:She resents him enough that her final wish after every "awakening" is to have nothing to do with him again--but it's telling that the betrothal lasts only as long as they're the one the other loves most. In every moment of happiness in all of her lives, he was there, and she knows that when she dies, she'll inevitably meet him in another life and fall in love with him all over again.]]
* PayEvilUntoEvil: When the captured Pingara asks for death [[spoiler: the awakened Brilith has no mercy for them, instead she uses her magic to burn them ''alive'' and leave them to Agni for interrogation she rubs it into their face that it's retaliation for the humans they killed on Atera 8 years ago and how they don't deserve to ask for death.]]
* PlayingWithFire: Given her triple Agni attributes, she unsurprisingly defaults to fire when attacking. Combined with the Staff of Agni [[spoiler:and silent magic]], she becomes a force to be reckoned with.
* PleaseIWillDoAnything: As a last resort in the Night It Rained Fire arc, to prevent Sagara and her gang of suras from blowing up Atera.
* PragmaticHero: Bordering on UnscrupulousHero at times, but after [[spoiler:awakening her past memories]], she becomes ruthless and solely focused on TheNeedsOfTheMany.
* RankUp: Post-{{Timeskip}}, she holds either the highest or the second-highest magician rank in Willarv.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Asha's blue. Becomes the blue to Agni's red after [[spoiler:regaining her past memories.]]
* ReincarnationRomance: [[spoiler: With Agni; she states she fell in love with him in all of her past lives... but he never managed to hold onto her. She doesn't seem to be completely satisfied with this situation.]]
* TheResenter: [[spoiler:After regaining her memories, she admits that a part of her despises the humans around her--even the "old" Brilith's friends, Rana and Agwen--and wants to kill them all for replacing her kind.]]
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:Her mind can't handle the prolonged burden of countless past lives. Agni admits to her that she'll probably get worse as time goes on (though if anything, she's less crazy than he expected).]]
* SecretlyDying: As she tells Agni, she's glad no one realizes that her lifespan is coming to an end, since it means no one will worry over her.
* SilkHidingSteel: During ''The Night It Rained Fire''. She may be a relatively helpless human, but she'll show the sura that she won't cower. Sagara hates her all the more for it.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Her friends have tried to set her up with others, but in the end, she has eyes only for Agni. [[spoiler:Even when she hates him.]]
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: It's made clear that [[spoiler:whether in the first life she met him or the ones that followed,]] what attracts her to Agni is his kindness.
* SoleSurvivor: She's the last remaining member of the [[spoiler:original human race, although she didn't quite "survive" it in the normal sense. Rather, her soul was constantly reincarnated ever since.]]
* SquishyWizard: Her spells pack a punch thanks to her high divine affinity, but she was never taught how to physically fight.
* StepfordSmiler: In front of the people of Atera.
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: Fits the Wise Wife: in terms of mannerisms and her role as Priestess (and ruler in all but name) of Atera. The roles of the Innocent Child and Sexy Seductress are Leez [[spoiler:(at least initially)]] and Sagara's respectively.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:After she recovers the memory of her past lives.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: In conjunction with her level in badass.
* {{Tsundere}}: The sweet kind, though she only gets harsh when Agni's being particularly frustrating.
* TraumaticHaircut: Most of her hair gets burned off during the second attack on Atera.
* UniversallyBelovedLeader: As the kind priestess of Atera, she is beloved by the people, who consider her no less than a queen.
* WatchingTroyBurn: Almost. During "The Night It Rained Fire", Sagara abducts her to ensure Agni won't interfere. She intentionally makes it so Brilith will have to watch as Atera is destroyed, but help arrives in time to stop it.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Gender-flipped, towards her mother Jibril Ajes. She became the Priestess of Fire because she wished to follow Jibril's example. Deconstructed in that her desire to gain her mother's approval was born of Jibril's emotional neglect, and resulted in Brilith sacrificing much of her lifespan to summon Agni like her mother had. Besides, in her wish to be like her, she greatly stressed herself due to not feeling she was good enough. Reconstructed in that, as WhatYouAreInTheDark belows shows, her dedication to Atera is genuine, and her self-steem issues have other deep roots.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Both played straight and subverted on different occasions.
** Despite her image as a Priestess who's devoted her life to her city, it turns out in death, she feels as though she has no reason to live. When she comes back, she's appalled to realize her dedication to Atera--which she prided herself on--was far weaker than she believed.
** When Rindhallow is under attack, she suggests to Agni that he come to its aid, even if it means having to take her as well (and thus making her a target, as she's his AchillesHeel). Agni privately notes there are many people who can act heroic but don't genuinely feel that way inside... but his insight reveals that her desire to help, even at personal cost, is completely sincere.
* WorthLivingFor: Played quite literally. [[spoiler: When she was about to die after Sagara used her transcendental on her in The Night It Rained Fire arc, Agni saves her at the last moment, and asks her if she has a will or a reason to live. Brilith at first doesn't remember anything, despite her best efforts, but finally remembers Asha, and thinks that if Brilith were to die, [[{{Foreshadowing}} Asha would be left alone with no one to hold onto her, and would disappear.]]]]
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: As she frequently feels like a burden, Agni tells her that she doesn't need to try so hard: he knows better than anyone how selfless and altruistic she is.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: Due to summoning Agni.

The previous Priestess of Fire and Brilith's mother.
----
* ActionMom: Brilith's. Jibril had a Divine Affinity value over 10,000, which probably played no small part in her ability to go toe to toe with Rakshasa.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To Brilith.
* BarrierMaiden: Her job as a priestess.
* ChildProdigy: Jibril mastered silent magic at a young age. Deconstructed: being able to use it before she reached full emotional maturity probably led to her emotion development being hampered at a critical stage of her life.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Laila Hemawati, the Priestess of Darkness.
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: Brilith's last memory of Jibril is her facing down an army of sura.
* HiddenDepths: Jibril, despite being a reputably kind and powerful magician, was rumored to not care for her husband or daughter that much, likely due to her proficiency in silent magic. [[spoiler: This seems to have been proven untrue, as Jibril had told Laila that she never wanted her daughter to learn silent magic and lose her humanity like Jibril did. Chandra also mentioned to Laila that Jibril's last memory was Brilith.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: [[spoiler: Implied. According to her childhood friend Laila, Jibril was skilled in silent magic, which is known to numb the user's feelings; supposedly, Jibril's were so numb that she barely saw other people as, well, people. She seemed to have kept some feelings, however, as she stated to Laila that she wished her daughter would never learn silent magic.]]
* LastRequest: [[spoiler:She asks the mystery god she summoned (later revealed to be Kubera) to answer Laila's summon if Laila uses this same method, fearing that Laila will do so out of her hatred towards Chandra. More indirectly, she hopes for Agni and Brilith to meet; at the very least, she makes it clear that she doesn't want Kubera to be the god by Brilith's side.]]
* MamaBear: [[spoiler:By the time of her death, Brilith was the last thing she actively cared about, especially considering she had to protect her from Brilith's own father.]]
* MarriedToTheJob: Rarely saw her husband after becoming priestess, and didn't seem to care much for Brilith.[[spoiler: The last bit is possibly subverted as, according to Chandra, Brilith was her last memory.]]
* ParentalNeglect: Towards Brilith.
* PosthumousCharacter: She died around 10 years before the beginning of the story. [[spoiler: Chandra implies she was denied Heaven after dying.]]
* StepfordSmiler: Her daughter draws inspiration from the way she used to smile at the crowds.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: [[https://kubera.fandom.com/wiki/File:3-007_young_Jibril.png Take a look at how she looked like when she was young]]. Brilith didn't inherit her looks from her father's side of the family.

The #1 ranked fighter and #6 ranked magician who is a guest lecturer at the Atera Magic Academy. She is Claude's younger sister.
----
* ActionGirl: Her Asvins-Asvins-Kubera attributes mean that she's primarily focused on self-buffing; she fights by boosting her own strength and regeneration with ''hoti asvins hoti kubera'', flies into close range with ''Bhavati Kubera'', then gets into brawls with enemies while sealing their own abilities using ''Bhavati Asvins''.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Is this to Teo Rakan due to beating her out for the title of best fighter in two consecutive tournaments.
* TheAntiNihilist: She strongly believes that life is worth living, no matter what awaits, in sharp contrast to [[spoiler:the now heavily jaded Teo]], who gives up after realizing how cruel the world really is.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:She died years ago, and Claude struck a deal to bring her back. She's aware of the side effect of Hoti Visnu and has made her peace with it.]]
* ChildhoodFriends: [[spoiler:Before the Cataclysm, She and Teo were the best of friends... but no one knew.]]
* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: It's not clear if she knew exactly who he was, but as a child, she met [[WorldsStrongestMan Taksaka]] (with his earrings on, thankfully) who was attending the championship with Agwen and Kasak. Her diary describes him as very nice.
* {{Fangirl}}: To Asha Rahiro; partially this seems to be because Airi feels that any magician (like herself) who lacks a triple attribute gets a lower rank regardless of their strength.
* FriendlyRivalry: Has something akin to this with Ruche and Lorraine. It's usually only physical fights with the former, but with the latter, magic is actually used.
--> '''Natasha Ross''': [[OddFriendship Since when have you two been on such friendly terms?]]
--> '''Ruche''': Ah, well, since we saw each other so much in Atera, we just naturally became closer... plus, [[OlderThanTheyLook I look way younger than my age...]]
--> '''Airi''': Because she doesn't act like an older sister.
--> '''Ruche''': Hey! ([[AngryCollarGrab grabs her by the collar]])
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Plays with this trope when it comes to Claude. On one hand, Airi is the more action-oriented, brash sibling, while Claude is cunning (and somewhat unnerving). On the other hand, despite both siblings being [[BrilliantButLazy various degrees of lazy]], Airi seems to take her duties far more seriously than her brother Claude does- at least she ''shows up'' to the job.
* HiddenDepths: Season 3 reveals that there's more to her than just Asha's {{Fangirl}} / Claude's little sister.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Lazy, prone to bickering, and somewhat petty, but absolutely believes that a magician's duty is to protect people even at the risk of their own lives, and is one of the few people in the series who ''doesn't'' believe the [[WellIntentionedExtremist The End Justifies The Means]]--she's horrified at the excuses people try to make for [[spoiler:Asha's serial murders]].
* KungFuWizard: Her fighting style, thanks to the nature of her attributes. She's able to best Teo in tournaments and even becomes head of the Atera Fighters' Guild post-{{Timeskip}}.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Much like how Claude often shirked his duties as Priest, Airi hates her bureaucratic job as guild president and jumps at the chance for a field task.
* ThinkNothingOfIt: Despite being Atera's hero after Sagara and co.'s attack, she runs away and hides when people try to express gratitude. From the sound of it, refusing to accept thanks is typical of her.
* TheTrickster: Lures Clophe away from the city during the attack on Atera.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Lorraine. They frequently bicker, at the same time Airi cares enough to worry about Lorraine and Saha's strained relationship.
* WhatIf: InUniverse, had [[spoiler:Asha not deliberately isolated Leez]], it's acknowledged that Airi likely would've become her mentor given their similar fighting styles. Now, Airi and Leez can both only lament that the opportunity has passed.
* WhatTheHellHero: Mildly directed to Teo. [[spoiler: When Teo says that her life in this world is meaningless, [[YouAreNotAlone Airi immediately hits back.]] She said that [[TheMeaningOfLife she believes life 'does' have meaning,]] regardless of whatever exists outside of it.]]
--> '''Airi''': (to Teo) [[spoiler: It's like asking why we live when we're going to die anyway!]]

A triple-attribute creation magician who is the #4 ranked AA. She has a creation shop and is friends with Brilith and Airi. She is Saha's fiancee and Siera's cousin.
----
* BrilliantButLazy: She's the #4 ranked magician, but ran out on Lutz, forcing him to become the Priest of Creation, and regularly shirks her duties.
* BrokenPedestal: [[spoiler:After Asha uses her to murder Saha On, she decides Asha is evil. It doesn't matter if there's a [[OmniscientMoralityLicense greater purpose]], she's evil.]]
* CripplingOverspecialization: She's the best at Creation magic, but that's also all she's good at, even if she's got enough theory down pat to teach Asha. [[spoiler:When she returns after the {{Timeskip}}, the major sign that ''something's'' changed is that she can now use ''Hoti Vayu'' effortlessly.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: [[AvertedTrope Averted]] despite being a pureblood. She and her cousin both have brown hair and golden eyes.
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Saha's murder]].
* TheDitherer: She's been putting off marrying Saha On for over a decade, but at the same time, she won't call it off herself. She puts it off, hoping the situation will resolve itself.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: After [[spoiler:Asha's betrayal and Saha's death]], she keeps her hair loose and unkempt as an indication of her spiralling stability. In Season 3, [[spoiler:where she's somewhat more composed, she comes to tie it up again but in a messier style than she had originally]].
* HasAType: She likes masculine, muscular men. Too bad her fiance is the [[DudeLooksLikeALady exact opposite]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: As Lilia points out, she was the one who ran off to avoid getting married and yet tries to use her engagement with Saha to her advantage.
* TheMentor: Used to be this to Asha.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In the wake of [[spoiler:Saha's murder by Asha, who she had released from prison]].
* OpaqueNerdGlasses: Wears a pair. Her eyes are rarely visible before the latter half of season 2.
* ThePerfectionist: Typically, Creation magicians don't have a perfect design and use silent magic to fill in the blanks, as otherwise casting would take too long. Lorraine, on the other hand, felt that this made magicians to be less intelligent than actual designers, and so learned how to use Creation magic without using silent magic, while not sacrificing (too much) speed.
* PluckyComicRelief: In Season 1, where she provides humour even in the mostly grim arc of ''The Night It Rained Fire''. It makes the tragedy that befalls her afterwards that much more stark.
* ThePowerOfCreation: The best at Creation magic on Willarv (Lutz being her only real competition) and owner of a Creation brand.
* PragmaticHero: In an attempt to be TheUnfettered, she tries to be this in Season 3, to the extent that she advocates [[spoiler:killing the soul candidates--most of whom are children--to prevent Sagara from using them]], but she's held back by the belief that [[spoiler:Saha loved her for ''not'' being ruthless, unlike himself and most of the other top-ranking magicians]].
* {{Retgone}}: [[spoiler:One of the people swallowed up Asha's ''hoti visnu'' at the end of Season 2.]]
* {{Revenge}}: After [[spoiler:Asha]] kills [[spoiler:Saha]], Lorraine hits her with her flying car and sets the vehicle to explode, killing everything in a 10km radius. [[spoiler:Yuta stops her.]]
* RunawayFiancee: She ''really'' doesn't want to get married to Saha, which is why she bailed on being the Priest of Creation and ran away to Atera.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Like her cousin Siera, she's one of the few high-ranking mages who preferred to retain their humanity than learn silent magic.
* TookALevelInCynic: Understandably, she loses all humour after [[spoiler:Asha destroys her life, and instead vows to dedicate herself to in turn ruining Asha's plans, so as to take responsibility for raising her]].
* UnwittingPawn: Her unwillingness to believe [[spoiler:Asha's a SerialKiller leads her to break Asha out of jail and lead her to her next victim.]]

* BadassOnPaper: How she maintains her popularity as guild president despite not being all that competent. ''Hoti Vayu'' might be all she's good at, but it means that after the attack on Atera, she can technically say there wasn't a single casualty under her watch (because she teleported everyone to safety when the building collapsed) even though she refused to participate in defending the city out of cowardice.
* CharacterDevelopment: Subverted. Post-{{Timeskip}}, she claims that she's matured and no longer cares about looks... and is immediately flustered by [[{{Bishonen}} Lutz]].

* FriendlyRivalry: With Airi. See her entry.
* GlorySeeker: Anytime she does something impressive, she always makes sure everybody knows about it.
* HiddenDepths:
** While she's as shallow and vain as she typically acts, she's surprisingly perceptive and intelligent. She was actually the first person to figure out Brilith summoned Agni, and she's implied to recognize Ran's DangerousForbiddenTechnique.
** When Chandra forms a list of people who'd be willing to sacrifice themselves for the world--which he can confirm through insight--''Ruche'' is on that list, despite her seemingly cowardly personality. (That, or she really has grown since Season 1.)
** In the BadFuture that Ran and Maruna end up in in Season 3, she's taken over as the Priest of Wind and is one of the few people to catch on to what their presence there means.
* ItsPersonal: See Riche's section. It's implied to be why she got over [[spoiler:Asha's BrokenPedestal]] so quickly.
* JerkassHasAPoint: She can be pretty bitchy, but she makes a good case as to why [[spoiler:Lorraine should be detained as a suspect in Asha's murder]].
** While she seasons it with a few horribly prejudiced comments about halfs, Ruche ''does'' have a point when defending Leez from Clary in season three: Clary can be a bitch to whomever she pleases, but no one can do the same to her?
* OlderThanTheyLook: Due to being a Quarter, she only looks about 17.
* ThemeTwinNaming: Ruche and Riche Seiran.

A Quarter who joined the party to help navigate the Water Channel, he stuck around longer than expected. He's surprisingly strong, even able to match Asha in many ways, but consistently fails the university exit exams because he is hopeless with magic calculations. Luckily for him, he doesn't need calculations for magic.
----
* ActionDad: In Season 3, where he's the father to four children. His twin sons like simultaneously boasting about his skills while also insulting his poor control over his magic.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: To Lutz, who as part of their banter frequently chides Ran for pestering him with questions or distracting him from his work.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards Leez. He calls out Asha on her poor treatment of her and, after learning that Leez's village was destroyed by a superior sura, offers to adopt her into his family. He also extends what he can of this towards Yuta, even though he's mostly in the dark about a lot of Yuta's problems. But, he will help out when he can about emotions and growing up, and would really try to with the things he couldn't ever manage to help with. Yuta knows and appreciates this (hence keeping him in the dark about the really scary-dangerous stuff that would get Ran very dead very quickly).
* BigBrotherWorship: Downplayed. He considers his brother the greatest magician in the world, but he's not blind to his faults.
* BookDumb: His ability to use magic without requiring calculations has caused him to neglect some of his studies, though some of this just comes from comparison to Asha's CharlesAtlasSuperpower levels of magical knowledge.
* BreakTheCutie: The Konchez expedition--or rather, the long, long way back--takes a heavy toll on his psyche, though it's a ForegoneConclusion that it doesn't fully kill his humour.
* ButtMonkey: Serves as this upon joining the party. Him being a "relatively" normal (at least within the context of sharing the same space as a mysterious genius magician, a girl with a god's Name, and a sura) means that he, along with Leez, winds up providing much of the humor in scenes where the four are involved, often at his own expense.
* ButterFace: Like Leez, Ran is stated to be drawn more attractive than he actually is.
* CastFromLifespan: His DangerousForbiddenTechnique is apparently this.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: He and Rana eventually get engaged and going through wedding preparations by the end of Season 2.
* ConditionalPowers: using [[spoiler:Yaksha's heart]] can either be a DangerousForbiddenTechnique, or this, depending if the conditions are favorable. Much like Nastika, he can absorb the nearby environments of his attributes to greatly lessen the drain on his lifespan. He can gain a similar effect from [[spoiler: the Ancient Humans ghosts giving him Vigor]], and removes the drain entirely if [[spoiler: he travelled to a time where he wasn't yet alive, meaning his timespan isn't yet listed]]. This makes him particularly powerful at daytime, and near water.
* CoolBigBro: Ran tries his best to be this to Leez and Yuta. His ButtMonkey status means he doesn't always succeed.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: [[spoiler:Using Yaksha’s heart]] [[CastFromLifespan drains his lifespan]].
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Leez didn't even realize he was a magician at first and just thought he was... the boatman...?
* EnemyWithin: During the time travel arc, [[spoiler:he starts communicating with a mass of beings in his head--implied to be the ancient human race--who try to act as TheCorrupter to him]].
* EntertaininglyWrong: ''All the time''.
* FacialMarkings: [[spoiler:Gains these when using his DangerousForbiddenTechnique.]]
* FamilyThemeNaming: The Sairofes tend to have short names with no more than four letters. Ran's dad was called Tan, his uncle is Huan, Ran's brother is Lutz, his children are Anne, Kan, Ten and Rim (nicknamed Rimi), his distant relation is Peil, and, of course, Ran himself. Even his wife is called Rana. His mother's family (at least the humans in it) had this as well: Nard, Hana, distant cousins Kaz and Haas. The only known exceptions so far are his aunt-by-marriage, Eline, and his grandmother, Hanuman.
* {{Fanboy}}: For [[spoiler:Rao Leez.]]
* {{Foil}}:
** To Brilith.
*** Both are the unconventionally talented children of conventionally talented mothers.
*** Both were left deeply marked by their deaths, and carry those marks well into adulthood.
*** Both have someone they knew from their younger days that they admire, but at the same time feel inferior towards - Lutz to Ran, Asha to Brilith- and yet eventually rise to the top of the magicians' food chain in Willarv.
*** Both end up having very negative feelings towards Asha; however, while Ran was exposed to her abusive behavior towards Leez over an extended period of time, [[spoiler:Brilith's friendship was brutally crushed over a single moment when Asha attacked her in Aeroplateau]].
*** Brilith grows more ruthless and colder over time - Ran maintains a firm emotional and moral compass throughout the story.
*** Both are, at least at first, [[ObliviousToLove completely unaware of the true depth of the feelings their eventual love interests have for them]], but while Ran's relationship with Rana is successful after he finally gets it, [[LadyAndKnight Brilith's relationship with Agni]] only [[OneTrueLove worsens when]] she [[ReincarnationRomance finally realizes it]].
*** Finally, both have a close family member as one of their city's priests, but while Ran is adored by his uncle and only agreed to become the Priest of Water after Rana insisted on it, Brilith felt distant from her mother and avidly succeeded her as Priestess of Fire.
** Ultimately, even though they share part of it, Ran's journey from Konchez to Willarv and accompanying development contrasts Maruna's. Where Maruna TookALevelInKindness, Ran TookALevelInCynic (if not [[TookALevelInJerkass in jerkass]] as well); despite being a human, Ran grows embittered with the gods and instead becomes attached to the various suras he encounters, while Maruna grows increasingly uncomfortable or judgmental of other suras and is surprised to find that he trusts the gods over them, given that the gods have generally treated him well.
* HiddenDepths: When he first appears, he acts like a village idiot and is an utter ButtMonkey. Over time, he's shown to be [[SmarterThanYouLook brighter than he usually acts]], sensitive, surprisingly mature at times, and struggling with childhood trauma. [[spoiler: Not only that, he holds power rivaling the [[PhysicalGod Nastikas]], though at great cost to himself]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: Ran means well, but one of his most glaring flaws is his bit of MoralMyopia where he struggles to truly think outside of his own feelings and those of his loved ones, which Asha even calls him out on.
** One notable case is in the alternate timeline he briefly stops in, where he resents the gods for treating certain lives as more "valuable"... except he's the one who wanted them to specifically [[PapaWolf protect his children]], therefore seeing his kids' lives as worthier than others' (especially considering later events, where it's implied that [[spoiler:he could've prevented Leny's kidnapping if he'd wanted to]]). Even if Ran's anger at them failing to uphold their deal and at Chandra's utter lack of sympathy is understandable, Agni and Chandra did try their best[[note]]in this timeline, Brilith died and Agni was de-summoned at an inopportune moment[[/note]] and [[JerkassHasAPoint Chandra rightfully points out that focusing any more on Ran's kids would've meant abandoning others]], and he doesn't see why Ran's family deserves special treatment. Unfortunately, logic does little to quell Ran's fury, particularly when Chandra is so callous about it.
** [[MoreThanMindControl While Ran might not have been quite himself]], he accuses Maruna of only caring about his loved ones. He's not necessarily wrong, but it can ring a bit hollow when Ran's made it clear that his own priority is ''his'' family.
* TheIllegible: His handwriting is horrible. He actually has to type out his letter to Rana to so she can actually read it.
* KungFuWizard: Makes AA rank, and has SuperStrength on top of it.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Leez. When he offers to take her in, he has to clarify that he means in a purely familial manner.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Through time travel, he becomes/became one to [[spoiler:Yaksha, as Tatia thanks him for being the one thing that kept Yaksha going in his empty life in hopes of one day seeing Ran again]].
* LonelyRichKid: Especially after Lutz left and [[spoiler:his mother tried to kill him during the Cataclysm.]]
* LockedOutOfTheLoop:
** He consistently knows less of what's really going on than the rest of the main cast (except, possibly, Leez), though it's getting a bit better; initially he knew next to nothing about Asha (not even her gender), thought Yuta was human, and thought Leez was an ordinary girl. Even now, while both Leez and Yuta seem to have at least a general understanding that something bigger is going on, he's completely ignorant.
** As it turns out, he hasn't exactly been given an accurate retelling of what happened to his mother...
* LoveAtFirstSight: He was attracted to Rana from the moment he first saw her. His feelings developed into actual love over the years.
* MadeOfIron: A minor RunningGag in the water channel is pieces of rubble breaking on his head. He doesn't really seem to notice.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: What he is afraid will happen between him and Rana. She's pure human, but he's a Quarter, so he ages at half normal rate. His own mother gave him a rather heartless lesson on the subject, since she was already going through the same thing with his father.
* MoreThanMindControl: [[spoiler:How his EnemyWithin works. They can't actually control him, but they prey on his inner thoughts and feelings to ensure that, however subconsciously, those become greater than his active will.]]
* NiceGuy: While it was less pronounced at first due to his dislike of Asha, Ran has a strong sense of justice and doesn't need a reason to help others.
** When Leez runs off to try to save Yuta, he goes after her despite the incredible danger. He had no obligation to help her, he could have left without repercussions. He just cares too much about others to leave them behind.
** He seems to be this in comparison to most of the other human characters. After the incident where [[spoiler:Yuta loses control and eats Leez's face]], Ran is the only one concerned about Leez.
** Eventually deconstructed by Asha. Compared to other characters who tend to hold grudges, Ran is rather open-minded, even looking out for Maruna despite knowing of the rakshasa's crimes. However, Asha accuses him of being a hypocrite; as Leez's ally, he should hate her ArchEnemy who supposedly caused her so much suffering. In Asha's eyes, his inability to do so shows the ''limits'' of his empathy, and his kindness even to strangers is little more than CondescendingCompassion.
* NotBrainwashed: [[spoiler:When he returns from Konchez and Brilith encounters him, Ran attacks her, leading her to believe that this is an imposter of some kind. However, Agni's insight fails to pick up on anything unusual and Sagara later confirms that Ran did it of his own volition. He lampshades this when they leave him imprisoned, alone, inside a circle that only binds sura; as he walks right out, he observes that they never even considered the possibility that it could really be him, acting of his own volition.]]
* NotHimself: [[spoiler:During the Cataclysm, Ran was afflicted by Emotional Resonance and killed his mother before attacking Rana.]]
* NotWhatItLooksLike: At night, a passerby hears sounds of a scuffle and comes to investigate, only to see Ran, who tells them that it's fine. They accept that... before realizing he just came out of ''Leez's'' room. Cue arrest. (Amusingly, this immediately follows Ran thinking ''Yuta'' and Leez are just, er, expressing certain... interests, before Yuta bursts out to tell him that it's not what it looks like.)
* ObliviousToLove: Despite his feelings for Rana, he has no idea that she loves him back. This changes once she proposes.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Used to just legitimately be somewhat unaware of forces at play, but after [[spoiler: the time travel arcs]], he becomes terrifyingly powerful and much better informed, making it clear he's only playing dumb to keep people off their guard.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Because he's a Quarter, he looks 18 despite being 38.
** [[spoiler:Becomes a case of ReallySevenHundredYearsOld, if not TimeAbyss due to his extensive TimeTravel, where his mind ages while his body —and lifespan— remain static.]]
** [[spoiler:Though the majority of this is in a timeless space where time doesn't move and all that happened is his conversation with Maruna. His actual travels in different time periods are implied to be around a few decades at most.]]
* OnlySaneMan: While he does have some issues, they are far more manageable than the other [[DysfunctionJunction members of the party]].
* OvershadowedByAwesome: As shown by the Test of the Sword and his eventual AA rank, Ran is actually rather incredible by human standards. He has the rare ability to cast by sheer instinct, he's unusually strong, and incredibly durable. He's just surrounded by people (and beings) that are even more amazing. [[spoiler:Regularly averted after his time travel arcs. He masters the usage of Yaksha's heart, allowing him, when conditions are favorable, to terrify individuals as powerful as 5th stage rakshasas]].
* PapaWolf: When he sees his sons about to be attacked by a sura, he drops everything and teleports over to fight it off.
* PastExperienceNightmare: He mentions often having nightmares of killing his mother. According to his therapist, it's his way of trying not to blame Lutz for killing her in reality. To the reader, it's clear why he's actually having said dreams.
* PatientChildhoodLoveInterest: To Rana.
* PluckyComicRelief: He has his serious moments, but he's typically one of the goofier members of the cast and, when numerous characters TookALevelInCynic, one of the only people to remain mostly unchanged by the time of Season 3. This changes during the Konchez expedition, as his return home severely embitters him, to the point where he comes across as the serious character and ''Maruna'' is borderline the comic relief.
* ShipperOnDeck: He gives Yuta advice on his relationship with Leez, encourages him to tell her how he feels, and says that he'll support him.
* SingleTargetSexuality: It's made clear that as far as Ran's concerned, girls other than Rana don't exist.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: His identical twin sons Kan and Ten are basically shorter, rounder versions of him.
* SuperStrength: Ran is stronger than the average ''Half'' even those from the same clan, which is known for its physical strength.
* ThereAreNoTherapists: Averted. He mentions having seen one as a child for his trauma. Unfortunately, it's only so helpful when Lutz gave him an inaccurate version of events.
* TookALevelInBadass: Across the time travel arc, thanks to his TrainingFromHell.
* TookALevelInCynic: In conjunction with BreakTheCutie, his long journey back home from Konchez destroys much of his idealism.
* TrainingFromHell: In Season 3, [[spoiler:Yaksha puts a time-travelling Ran through this]].
* UnlimitedWardrobe: Downplayed and Justified. He changes outfits frequently, but he has a preferred style and is filthy rich.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Has a phobia of Halfs, thanks to his childhood's trauma when his mother was driven insane by her sura blood and tried to kill him.

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rana_1.png]]

Childhood friend of Ran and a teacher at the Mistyshore university.
----
* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: People remark in season three that she doesn't look like a mother of four. That's because she got an item from Eline that keeps her appearance the same as the one she had when she first put it; she doesn't stop growing old, just looking it. It's heavily implied--and later confirmed--those are the cat ears shown when Visnu's god-level items were shown as silhouettes.
* AlliterativeName: '''R'''ana '''R'''eimia.
* ArousedByTheirVoice: She's attracted to Ran's voice. In fact, [[LoveAtFirstNote it's why she first started falling for him]].
* ChildhoodFriends: With Ran. Of the [[VictoriousChildhoodFriend victorious]] kind.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: She proposed!
* ChildProdigy: Entered the academy at the age of ''10''. She's already teaching when first seen; bear in mind that she was only 26 at the time, and was already in the magicians' top thirty.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Briefly, when [[spoiler:she mistakes Ran's BigBrotherInstinct for Leez as him having fallen in love with her.]] It's downplayed, too, in that [[spoiler:she's more upset with him for being ObliviousToLove for ''18 years'' than anything.]]
* EarlyBirdCameo: She shows up briefly in the prologue, but her first actual appearance is in Episode 52 of the first season.
* {{Fangirl}}: She's one of Asha's big fans. Ran, that doesn't notice at first that ''Rana's been in love with him for years'', believed for a long while that Asha was Rana's CelebCrush.
* HiddenDepths: She's initially introduced as somewhat of a SatelliteLoveInterest to Ran, but the author mentions that the reason she was so composed during the Cataclysm is because she'd already seen worse. Season 3 goes into her DarkAndTroubledPast.
* {{Housewife}}: She was this for most of the {{Timeskip}}. However, in the present, she admits she's starting to resent their (unexpected) fourth child who's significantly younger than the others and preventing her from returning to work. It's why she desperately wants Ran to become Priest, as it'd allow his uncle to retire and therefore look after the kids instead.
* HumanSacrifice: [[spoiler:As a child, she was intended to be one, but escaped thanks to the help of a retainer.]]
* LoveAtFirstSight: She was attracted to Ran the day she met him. [[PlayingWithATrope However]], it only developed into actual love over the years.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Comparatively mild, but she does age twice as fast as Ran. That - and Ran's [[ObliviousToLove obliviousness]] - is why they took so long to finally tie the knot; see Hana's entry to understand why.
* TheMedic: As a triple Asvins, restoration magic is her specialty; normally, it's used to heal.
* MistakenForGay: Briefly, she wonders if this is what happened when Ran thinks she has a crush on Asha, or if (correctly) he's mistaken Asha for a man.
* NervesOfSteel: Though she's also shocked by [[spoiler:Saha's death]], she maintains her vigour better than most and is mentioned to typically have a high vigour recovery rate, indicating that she's skilled at regulating her emotions (furthered by the later confirmation that she's a silent magic user).
* NiceGal: She's kind, helpful, and doesn't hesitate to help others.
* ParentsAsPeople: At the beginning of Season 3 she is shown to be desperate to go back to teaching after her children are of school age, she admits to Ran that she's ''tired'' of just being mother and that she knows that if she continues she'll end up resenting their youngest daughter and wants to avoid that because she knows how unfair that would be. Ran doesn't judge her in the slightest and accepts becoming the new Priest of Water even thought he knows that he would hate the job so she can go back to work.
* SecretKeeper: Seems to collect these.
** She's one of the few people aware of Ran's [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique secret talent]]. She's the one to warn him to never use it again, as it may kill him.
** She knows the truth of what happened to Ran's mother.
** Despite not being a Priest or Priest candidate (and even then, Siera didn't seem to know), she's aware of Shess being a rakshasa. Given Chandra's complaints about Agwen's lack of secrecy, it's possible she told Rana.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Mango milk. When he left for the water channel, Ran even left her a bottle of it alongside his letter.
* {{Tsundere}}: Of the sweet variety, towards Ran.

Ran and Lutz Sairofe's mother. Her mother is the current king of the Yaksha Clan. She appears as a child in ''Literature/TheFinite.''
----
* ArcWords: "Those that live long, love long". She was the first person in-series to state it. No wonder, considering her love life. See MayflyDecemberRomance below.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Which she passed on to Ran, although accidentally - she mentions that she lost it when he was born, and that she suspected he was able to do it.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Her father was a human quarter, her mother was the Yaksha nastika Hanuman (the clan's current king).
* LittleBitBeastly: She had a tail and fur on her forearms.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: With Tan Sairofe. She advises Ran to not end up in one of these, or at least to end up being the "Mayfly" of the two. Frankly, is hard to blame Hana for it. By the time of the Cataclysm, her marriage was falling apart. As she explains, when two people of different lifespans end up together, it sucks for both. As time passes, the one that ages faster ends up growing apart from their partner, that remains the same for a longer time and sees their loved one growing farther and farther away from them. Considering how her relationship with Tan developed, and what happened to her father, it's no wonder Hana is so embittered towards this kind of love.
* MissingMom: Hanuman left Hana and her father when she was young, so she barely remembers her. She doesn't even know exactly what her mother is; according to Hana, her father told her that her mother was a nastika, but Hana didn't believe him. When Ran showed his surprise, she remarked her mother would probably only be a rakshasa.
* PortmanteauCoupleName: InUniverse. Her name is a version of this. Her parents named her by joining the first two letters of their own names; so you have Hana, daughter of '''Ha'''numan and '''Na'''rd.
* PostHumousCharacter: Which is a great source of grief for Ran, [[spoiler:as he killed her in self-defense]]. The events of her death during the Cataclysm are the reason her son became so scared of halfs.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Averted; Hanuman, that considers herself to be ugly, even jokes that she's happy Hana doesn't look like her.
* UnevenHybrid: Downplayed. Her father was a Yaksha quarter, and her mother a Yaksha nastika; in other words, Hana is not exactly a 50-50 half. However, in-universe, a half is whatever person of human heritage that has at least 50% of sura blood. What little sura lineage she inherited from her father doesn't really make any difference, so she's considered a half.

The former Priestess of Resurrection before Visnu's disappearance, dean of the Mistyshore University, and Ran's aunt.
----
* ChildHater: She refuses to babysit Ran and Rana's children for this reason.
* HappilyMarried: With Huan, Ran's uncle. The reason she's willing to give her slow-aging god-level item to Rana is because she'd rather grow old with her husband than stay young.
* NeverMessWithGranny: Former Priestess, after all--elderly or not, she's a top-ranking magician.
* SecretKeeper: She was involved with [[spoiler:Airi's resurrection]].

[[folder:Ian Rajof]]
!!Ian Rajof
!!!Quarter, Birth Attributes: Vayu-Nil-Nil

Kasak's late mother and wife of the Destruction Dragon, Taksaka. Her relationship with Taksaka is the focus of ''Literature/TheFinite.''
----
* BrokenPedestal: Her hometown originally worshipped suras, and in particular, the Vritra clan, from which she's descended. Watching it get destroyed by a dragon put an end to that for her.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: To Leez. Both [[RevengeBeforeReason wished revenge against a superior sura]] for the [[DoomedHometown destruction of their village]], later formed an InterspeciesRomance, and were [[YourDaysAreNumbered doomed to short lifespans for their own reasons]]. In contrast, though, Ian never found a way to compensate for her inability to use magic, was able to let go of her hatred after learning the truth, and though her relationship with a sura had its own obstacles (namely over how to parent Kasak), they ultimately worked it out and Ian spent the remainder of her life in relative peace.
* DisproportionateRetribution: She fell in love with a nastika, which alone is a sin that sent her to Hell after her death. To rub salt into the wound, [[NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished her relationship with Taksaka benefited the universe]] by calming the latter's temper, hence why Visnu orchestrated it in the first place.
** Though one side story later has Yama confirm that that's a false myth, likely conjured by sura in denial who didn't want to believe their human mates genuinely sinned, meaning it's possible that this fate never befell Ian after all.
* DoomedHometown: Her hometown was destroyed by Vritra posing as Taksaka.
* GenderBlenderName: "Ian" is normally a boys' name.
* GoodParents: To Kasak. Luckily for him, as his father wasn't quite like Gandharva.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Ian's fairly delicate-looking while Taksaka is over 2 meters tall in adult form.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Taksaka.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: She was one to Taksaka.
* LoveMartyr: She puts up with a ''lot'', when it comes to both Taksaka and Kasak--extremely powerful beings who could easily kill her without thinking and have NoSocialSkills. It's not as if Taksaka was her only option either--he's painfully aware that as a pretty, kind woman, Ian would have no trouble finding other suitors. Nevertheless, Ian loves them both dearly, and she ends up HappilyMarried in spite of the obstacles.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Taksaka is as old as the universe. She's a Quarter who lost 80 years of her lifespan having a child.
* MoralityPet: To Taksaka, who restrains his temper for her sake.
* PosthumousCharacter: She's long dead by the time of Kubera canon. Averted in ''Literature/TheFinite'', that tells her story.
* RevengeBeforeReason: She wanted to kill a nastika. And not any nastika, but ''[[WorldsStrongestMan Taksaka]]''. Eventually, she subverts it when [[spoiler:Utpala tells her that finding the true culprit might result in more deaths]], as Ian decides that she can't sacrifice others for her revenge.
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler:She is the one person who knows that Utpala was only TheScapegoat, as Utpala told her before dying, wanting to not be hated by one person, at least.]]
* SomeoneToRememberHimBy: GenderInverted and invoked. Ian understands that no matter their current relationship, Taksaka will continue to live on after she dies and thus eventually his feelings will fade. It's why she's okay with having a child even knowing it'll drastically shorten her lifespan: any descendants they can leave behind will be a more permanent proof of their love than fleeting memories.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Her granddaughter is said to resemble her. Averted when it comes to Kasak; that, and the fact that he's male, only worsened Taksaka's resentment towards him (as Ian had to sacrifice eight decades of her life to have him).

The current Priestess of Chaos, and in fact the only Chaos candidate in the city, as well as the head of the Kalibloom fighter's guild.
----
* ActionGirl: She's more of a fighter than a magician. She gained an A+ magician's license (the second-highest one possible, excluding Asha's unique A++ rank) despite being ''all but incapable of using magic'' -- using nothing but brute strength and skill with a sword.
* ActionMom: Considering she's a badass with a sword and she's Elwin's mom, she definitely qualifies. She can even take on human-form rakshasa and hold her ground solely on her skill as a fighter.
* AlwaysSecondBest: Has been the runner-up to Airi Yui in two consecutive fighter's tournaments. She clearly chafes at this.
* BeneathTheMask: In front of Gandharva and others, she's calm and cool. Inside her head, she's flustered by the hot guy she's letting stay in her house and worried about his secretive behavior.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Gandharva. They both were separated from family members and know that they are likely dead, but want to believe that they're alive anyway.
* BookDumb: She and books are noted to not get along, and the reason why her handwriting is so shoddy is because ''she just never writes''.
* BrokenBird: She did her best to cope with losing her parents and then, later, the events of Season 2. However, [[StepfordSmiler despite her pretending otherwise around others]], watching her work as Priestess mean utterly nothing and learning that [[spoiler:her soul is not what she thinks it is]] does a number to her, pushing her towards the DespairEventHorizon.
* BrokenPedestal: Her patron goddess is Kali... the one responsible for most of the problems in Season 3, which she realizes. After the temple is destroyed, she doesn't bother to repair it, given there's no point in worshipping Kali anymore.
* CameBackWrong: [[spoiler:When Teo was resurrected, it was not with her original soul, meaning that philosophical and metaphysical questions of identity aside, the Teo Rakan who came back is technically a different person inhabiting the same body and most of its memories.]]
* ChildhoodFriends: With Airi. [[spoiler:Except no one was aware of this, leading to certain misunderstandings and misguided contempt on Teo's part.]]
* DeathOfPersonality: [[spoiler:It's implied Laila's spear released Menaka's soul that had been transferred to her at the same time her original soul was about to be destroyed inside of Taraka, but Menaka manages to give her back her real soul just in time before she herself fades away taking her place--meaning that the "new" Teo of the last seven years is gone.]]
* DespairEventHorizon: Whatever [[spoiler:Siera told her]] seems to have caused her to cross this, as she feels her only two options are to [[spoiler:die by Laila's hand before her soul can be used to revive Ananta, where she fears her resentment will turn him into a destructive force against the universe, or to kill Laila and ''willingly'' destroy everything in her grief]].
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Her subordinates feel this way on her behalf in Season 3, as the Priest summoners and Leez are all treated with more importance or authority, even in Teo's own city. Teo herself puts on a brave face, but in private it's clear that she's not happy about it either.
* FacialMarkings: She has red marks under her eyes. They are easily mistaken for makeup, but are in fact a sign of her sura heritage.
* GeniusBruiser: She may be a poor magician due to her automatic 50% fail rate (due to her triple-Null birth attributes), but she still got an A+ ranking. All ranking tests have a speed calculations portion.
* HasAType: Comments at one point that Gandharva's human guise is her type.
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:Is somehow capable of using silent Chaos magic. This is notable given that one, Kali disappeared a long time ago, leaving the Chaos attribute nil, and two, those who can use silent magic tend to be rather ruthless.]]
* TheIllegible: Apparently her handwriting is so bad that the best handwriting Teo could muster [[spoiler: for her heartfelt letter to Airi]] was described by Korean fans as equivalent to that of an elementary school kid still learning to write.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: You would think that she and Gandharva were sunk after season 2 and you'd be... Right? Wrong? [[AnchoredShip Who knows?]] But even after losing her memories of her time living with him and thus any feelings she may had for him, she still remains the only human who made a real connection with him and whose death made him feel guilty. He goes out of his way to try to understand her situation and actually asks Agni for advice, what's more when he ''finally'' decides to protect Kalibloom despite his weakened state and how terrified he is of Taraka, it's implied it's because he wants to protect ''her'' and reveals his nastika form finally admitting his guilt and responsibility for her death. [[spoiler: ''Then'' when it's revealed that due to Kali, her soul after her resurrection was actually [[LostLenore Menaka's soul]] and her actual soul had been inside Taraka all along, before her soul is destroyed, Menaka makes a last second switch and directs Teo's original soul back into her body telling her to recognize the one who truly loves her.]]
* ImportantHaircut: It's implied she cuts her hair and puts away her armour due to the trauma of realizing she [[spoiler:apparently put her city at risk and died]]. In Season 3, when she makes a return to her Season 2 appearance, it's a sign that something's wrong.
* JerkassToOne: Despite being friendly to most, she can't stand the sight of Airi, who on the other hand would love nothing more than to be her friend.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia:
** Courtesy of being [[spoiler:resurrected by Asha's Hoti Visnu, she had her time rewound back to before the beginning of Season II, judging by her being unaware of ever meeting Gandharva.]].
** In a sense, it happens again in Season 3, although [[spoiler:it's less that she lost her memories of the last seven years as so much as those seven years never happened to her original soul, now returned to her]].
* LivingWithTheVillain: What she concluded the situation with Gandharva was; she doesn't remember him, and, given how things went down, it's hard to disagree. While Gandharva isn't quite the "villain" in the common sense, his actions up until that point were ''very'' hard to defend, no matter the reason behind them. The bigger problem to Teo, however, is what he did ''after''. Granted, he only attacked Kalibloom because her death and the emotional pain that followed led to him going out of control, ''but Teo is unaware of this''. As far as she knows, he fooled her to either kill her or to destroy her city, or both. She feels deep guilt for not having seen through his "facade", and blames herself for the chaos that followed. No wonder she [[spoiler:seems to hate him so much in Season Three]].
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: [[spoiler:She doesn't know the truth behind Airi's revival, as no one even knew they were friends and therefore they didn't think to tell her.]]
* LoopholeAbuse: She gained an A+ magician's license, despite being mostly unable to use magic, because there ain't no rule that says you have to use magic on the tests -- she overcame the tests that are meant to be solved with magic using ''brute strength''.
* LossOfIdentity: [[spoiler:After she learns about the true nature of her reveal, it leads to the question of who "Teo Rakan" really is, and whether any version of her even counts anymore. Is she Teo because she has Teo's body and memories, as well being as the one acknowledged as her now, or is only her original soul Teo, despite amounting to a non-entity now?]]
* MagicKnight: Of the use spells (i.e. Hoti Kubera) to augment physical abilities while fighting with weapons variety.
* MagicallyIneptFighter: Played with. She is described as having little magical skill outside of Hoti Kubera (likely due in large part to her attributes), but makes up for it by being highly skilled in the use of transcendentals [[spoiler:and, as it turns out, silent Chaos magic]].
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: She's the president of Kalibloom's Fighters' Guild who hates dresses and can't even peel apples, while Gandharva is a {{Bishonen}} who can cook despite not even needing to ''eat'' and presents himself as a helpless human with no interest in combat.
* MasterSwordsman: Since she's a triple Nil, magic is too unreliable for her to use it as her primary skill. She makes up for it through sheer swordsmanship skill.
* MoralityChain: Downplayed, in that post-CharacterDevelopment Gandharva can behave well enough even without her, but her presence is one of the few things that pushes him to actively ''change''. In an alternate timeline where she died, Agni allegedly gave up on hopes of redeeming Gandharva.
* NoSell: One of her passive silent magic abilities makes her essentially impervious to transcendentals and magic. It's useless against a physical combat specialist like Riagara, but makes her very, very dangerous against other humans.
* OhCrap: She has a quiet one when she spots [[spoiler:Gandharva's sura form]] in the Lake of Reflection and realizes her [[spoiler:house-guest is a sura]].
--> '''Teo:''' (thinking) Stay calm. Don't tremble. I saw nothing.
* OnlyMostlyDead: [[spoiler:Due to her body being preserved when Gandharva [[HumanPopsicle froze it in ice made from his body]], it was possible for Asha to resurrect her using Hoti Visnu.]]
** [[spoiler:On the other hand, it is later revealed that Hoti Visnu merely resurrects the body, but the soul inhabiting it is an entirely different one.]] [[spoiler:The original wound up becoming the newest Taraka.]]
* PowerHair: She's cut her flowing hair down to a short bob between seasons two and three.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to both Elwin and Parr's Red.
* TookALevelInCynic: After the events of Season Two, she's no longer so willing to trust in strangers. [[spoiler:She only sponsors "Runa" and his "brother" because she has Maruna pegged as a NobleDemon and wants to determine his objective.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: [[spoiler:Alongside Siera. As Laila puts it, to raise her sword against innocents--and within the temple, no less--makes it clear she is no longer on their side.]]
* TragicDream: [[spoiler:Develops a crush on Gandharva that remains even after figuring out who he is. [[LampshadeHanging She even goes as far as to comment on her "hopeless dreams" of him allying himself with her]], among other implied things, during her LastStand against Sagara's troops. What makes it worse is that Gandharva decided he didn't want her to die after all, just before Sagara [[KickTheDog finishes Teo off right in front of him]].]]
-->"I'm glad...Maybe my dreams weren't so hopeless after all..."
* WatchingTroyBurn: Averted. She [[spoiler:dies before Kalibloom is attacked]].
-->"I do not wish to survive when my city is collapsed.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: [[spoiler: with Airi. See her entry.]]

President of the creation brand Brimo and the richest person on the planet. Ruche's older twin sister.
----
* ActuallyADoombot: [[spoiler:She eventually developed robot duplicates, which we only learn after one 'dies' in her place.]]
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Her mind is always on money, even in the most dire of situations. [[spoiler:Averted in Season 3, where she takes responsibility for protecting her entire city and devotes her vast wealth to building a turret system to defend it after coming to the conclusion that the gods can't be relied on to protect humanity.]]
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** She disapproves of [[spoiler:Asha's killings]] and sends the evidence she's collected to Saha On when [[spoiler:Asha]] shows no remorse for them.
** Also, despite her greed, [[spoiler:she recognizes that protecting her city and the lives of its inhabitants has to take priority, and devotes her wealth to it when she decides the gods can't be relied on to do it.]]
* HiddenDepths: When it became clear that the gods couldn't be relied on to protect humanity, [[spoiler:Riche invested her vast fortune in producing forbidden weapons of mass destruction capable of fighting superior Sura, even though the gods had forbidden it, and used a robotic duplicate to hide her location while she oversaw them.]]
* ItsPersonal: Once the full extent of Asha's spell repertoire is revealed. [[spoiler:Asha isn't just an unrepentant SerialKiller to her. She's also an unrepentant SerialKiller who apparently ignored Riche's desperation for a ''Hoti Visnu'' user in the past. To rub salt onto the wound, as Ruche notes, Asha was too busy using ''Hoti Visnu'' to ''repeatedly murder people''.]]
* LetsGetDangerous: Normally a cowardly SmugSnake, but when it comes to something she truly cares about (hint: not actually greed), she can be dangerously vindictive. [[spoiler:And in season three she shows what the resources of the wealthiest person on the planet can do by developing weapons capable of fighting superior Sura on even terms after concluding that the gods can no longer be relied on to protect humanity.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: As a Quarter.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: Her large collection of god-level items were acquired through rather dubious means.
* SmugSnake: In the early parts of Season 2, where Asha effortlessly crushes her elaborate plans. [[spoiler:Averted later on, when she successfully gets Asha tried for murder, and averted completely in Season 3, where she turns out to be far more competent when dealing with stuff she actually cares about.]]
* ThemeTwinNaming: With Ruche.
* UngratefulBastard: Subverted. Asha saves her life and yet she's among those shunning her after the [[spoiler:Hoti Visnu]] reveal, as Leez observes. However, it's why Riche gives Asha the chance to defend herself, and it's only after Asha throws it back in her face that Riche decides to go in for the kill.

The Priest of Earth. Lorraine's cousin.
----
* AlliterativeName: '''S'''iera '''S'''ies.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: [[spoiler:After meeting Kali, he begins acting this way. He ''claims'' to have reasons for what he does, but it's hard to believe.]]
* BarrierMaiden: A male example. He is responsible for maintaining the Barrier of Earth.
* BeingGoodSucks: See MoreHeroThanThou below. It... did not end up well for him.
* ButtMonkey: A bonus chapter details how being the Priest of Earth is not a fun position, given the temple's general lack of popularity and having nothing going for it, on top of Siera himself being heavily OvershadowedByAwesome.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Averted, despite being a pureblood.
* DespairEventHorizon: After [[spoiler:meeting Kali and apparently learning the truth of the world]], he loses all hope for it.
* EarlyBirdCameo: He can be seen in chapter 6 in Brilith's exposition about magicians, but doesn't make a proper appearance until season 2.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Pre-timeskip, he looks much younger than his thirty-one years.
* MeaningfulName: His name is similar to "Sierra", which means "mountain" in Spanish.
* MoreHeroThanThou: [[spoiler:Demands Kubera's bracelet back from Leez for the simple reason that the wielder will be used in Chandra's (potentially fatal) experiment, and out of altruism, he'd rather it be him than her.]]
* NayTheist: Downplayed. It's not that he doesn't respect the gods or that he's ungrateful for Agni's help, but he's usually the first (if only) Priest to express unease over the gods' presence (as Willarv is reverting back to its previous dependence on them) or doubt their goodwill.
** Interestingly, in some ways this makes him kinder towards the gods than most. In a bonus chapter, he rushes to block an attack for Agni... even though it would've done absolutely nothing to Agni, who then has to save Siera. To Siera, Agni was an ally in need, rather than a near invincible god who surely has everything handled, and though Claude mocks him for causing Agni trouble, [[LonelyAtTheTop Agni]] actually appreciated it.
* NotBrainwashed: [[spoiler:After coming into contact with Kali’s records, he discovers something so shocking that his entire personality changes. At first, people assume he's either possessed or has been replaced with an impostor, but it turns out he's actually acting of his own volition.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: Pre-timeskip. The author mentioned that people asked him for tips on how to retain a youthful appearance. Ironically, it's the other way around post-timeskip, where his accumulated stress has caused him to age rapidly.
* OnlySaneMan: One of the only priests who'd rather not give up his humanity for silent magic. [[spoiler:Averted, depending on your point of view, after he encounters Kali and discovers something that causes his entire personality and worldview to do a 180.]]
* PerpetualFrowner: He's never happy. Admittedly, he doesn't have much reason to be. (Though this is almost certainly the reason why he has a slow vigour recovery.)
* SquishyWizard: He has a very high magic ranking in addition to being a priest, but is inept at fighting. That said, he's still able to smash a hole in the wall of the temple when frustrated with Claude.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Coming into contact [[spoiler:with Kali]] changes him so drastically that at first, Agni and Leez don't even believe it's him and assume that he's been possessed/being impersonated.

* BadLiar: According to Teo. [[spoiler:That's why Teo doesn't tell her immediately that she knows that Maruna is a high-rank sura]].
* CassandraTruth: She's fairly certain "Runa" is the same superior sura she saw slaughter a group of fighters seven years ago, but there's no proof and none of the others saw his face clearly. [[spoiler:Subverted; Teo believes her just fine and didn't tell her right away since Parr's a BadLiar.]]
* CatGirl: Her catlike ears and tail give her this appearance.
* MsFanservice: She is an attractive pseudo-CatGirl who wears cleavage-baring dresses.

* OlderThanTheyLook: Is 88 but appears 22.

** [[spoiler:She blames herself for Teo's death due to leaving Teo's side to find help.]]
** [[spoiler:Happens again when she stays behind while a group of fighters confront Gandharva. She didn't go with them because she didn't have a god-level item with her - not that the items were of any use, since the group gets obliterated by Maruna.]]

A Gandharva Half from Kalibloom. She competes in the Test of the Sword.
----
* ClarkKentOutfit: Who would say? Below those clothes, Clary is actually ripped.
* FishPeople: Has a rather fishy look due to being a Gandharva Half.
* HalfHumanHybrid: She is a Half of the aquatic Gandharva clan.
* InsaneTrollLogic: It doesn't matter that everyone agrees that grown-up Leez looks like a genderbent of Rao. According to her, Rao was so uninterested in women that most people thought he was gay, she also claims that since Leez didn't look like him at 17 - due to her having been a {{Butterface}} and a late bloomer - then she ''obviously'' must have done something to her face while she was on the Sura Realm to look like him. It's particularly ridiculous because unlike other characters who did know Rao personally, she was merely a fan of his, not ''all'' of her arguments are nonsense (see SmallRoleBigImpact entry) but it's hard to take her seriously due to this and her general unlikeable personality.
* NotHimself: [[spoiler:She attacks her allies under the effect of emotional resonance during the attack on Kalibloom. Apparently this isn't the first time this has happened; she mentions the Cataclysm during her apology to Zard.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's 115 but looks 28.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: While a minor character, she was friends with Anna Haias and so is the one who reveals that [[spoiler:the woman died long before the start of the series]].
* ThatLiarLies: Says this in general about [[spoiler: Leez, although it can be chalked up to how she claims to be the child of Rao Leez and Anna Haias, who she says died in a red sky attack in the beginning of the story. 852The current Priest of Death and Airi's older brother.
----
* AllForNothing: [[spoiler:The reason behind most of his actions in the second volume is to protect Laila. Immediately after he's managed to successfully manipulate Asha into murdering another Kubera name-holder in Laila's place, Laila sacrifices her lifespan anyway to summon Chandra, the God of Darkness.]]
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Although he justifies his actions by claiming that he serves TheNeedsOfTheMany, some of what he's done (like [[spoiler:'coincidentally' ensuring the defenses on God Kubera's artifacts were down right before Sura attacked to steal them]]) makes it unclear what side he's really on. The fact that he's introduced by [[spoiler:nearly killing Leez in an attempt to win an argument with Asha]] doesn't help.
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: Everyone already knows he's shady, so he has no qualms about offering [[spoiler:to be Asha's executioner]]. Saha doesn't take him up on it.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He's a fairly goofy guy and not all of it is a farce. Still good enough to be the Priest of Death, however.
* BigBrotherInstinct: [[spoiler:Loves Airi enough that he made a DealWithTheDevil for her sake.]]
* BigLittleBrother: [[spoiler:An odd case. He's secretly chronologically younger than Airi but physically older as there was a period of time when she was dead and therefore not aging, hence why she now poses as the younger one instead.]]
* BodySurf: What seems to be the use of ''Bhavati Yama'', a spell he's quite skilled at using.
* BrilliantButLazy: One of the highest ranking magicians in the world, would rather check out restaurants and do crossword puzzles than work.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He doesn't even bother to do his job half the time, but because he's so good at it when he actually does, Rindhallow can't afford to replace him.
* ButtMonkey: When not pulling at the strings, he's usually the resident punching bag or the butt of snarky comments, because [[TheFriendNobodyLikes it's Claude]].

* EarlyBirdCameo: In ''The Night It Rained Fire'', during Brilith's flashes about her life on her deathbed, Claude can be seen among them.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: With Airi. See her entry.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: Laila even describes him as one of the most cold-hearted people she knows.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: No one's ever happy to see him, except for maybe Laila (if only because it means she can at least make sure he's working).
* HeroicSacrifice: He survives (though not without repercussions), but [[spoiler:he took on Laila's task of tracking Brilith's nightmare to protect Laila, and ultimately chose to save Brilith even at personal cost because if anything happened to Brilith, the burden would be on Laila as the remaining sole summoner on Willarv]].
* LikesOlderWomen: So he says, when informing Leez that she's not his type.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: He is willing to ignore Asha's murders because he believes humanity needs her on their side, and is even willing to go so far as to suggest [[spoiler:offering Leez as a 'sacrifice' to Yuta, allowing him to savage her repeatedly because the Golden Knight will simply heal her and because, again, humanity needs Yuta on its side.]] However, it's unclear whether he's being entirely honest about his actual goals...
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:When he stopped Asha from killing Laila, he assumed she'd then go after Leez--not ''Saha''.]] Season 3 reveals that, although he may not show it, he does feel guilty.
* ObfuscatingStupidity:
** He acts like a goofy layabout, but he actually has a much better idea of what's really going on than almost anyone else, and most of his actions have a deeper purpose behind them. For example, his 'lazing about' in Kalibloom was (according to him) actually because he was frantically trying to get Yuta to stay on humanity's side.
** In Season 3, Chandra amusingly lampshades it, noting that [[spoiler:he used to be someone pretending to be an idiot, but now that he lost his DealWithTheDevil and memories associated with it, he's just an actual idiot now. Later on this turns out to be a double-subversion; while he's no longer as aware of what's going on and is no longer a major player, he's lost none of his intelligence, and is able to rapidly determine what's up and throw together a plan on learning Leez' true name]].
* OlderThanTheyLook: In season 3, he's already in his mid 30's but looks the same as before the time skip, notable because other characters, including his sister, did show some signs of aging and he's a ''pureblood'', so he doesn't have a longer lifespan or ages slower like a quarter, this is even lampshaded by the author in her afterword.
* PetTheDog:
** He sincerely cares about Laila, with Saha even referring to this as his one redeeming quality.
** Likewise, he's on good terms with Airi, whom he corresponds with regularly.
** Unrelated to the above, he once gave Brilith a surprisingly sweet spiel about how she shouldn't be ashamed over her inability to use silent magic, as achieving her skill in magic while still retaining her humanity is something to be proud of.
* PluckyComicRelief: Chandra refers to him as this after he [[spoiler:loses his DealWithTheDevil]], citing that the cheerless temple could use an idiot like him (as Claude chases after him and Laila in smiley face pajamas...).
* SquishyWizard: Among the magicians with no known physical capabilities. Later arcs in Season 3 see him get knocked out by accidentally banging his head against something.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: By Laila's accounts, he wasn't always a douche.
* {{What You Are in the Dark}}: During the dream tracking he does inside Brilith's conscious, he at first finds a memory of Saha, who calls him out on how he was willing to sacrifice him to save Laila, even pointing out how Leez's life wasn't any less worthy when he tried to defend his decision. Later on when he faces Asha, she initally gives him a way out , taunting him about just being his usual self and leave, but when he recalls dream!Saha's words from earlier he chooses to try and stop Asha anyway, earning him a direct blow from her magic which left him comatose for a long while.

The current Priestess of Darkness. A hardworking woman who hides her face behind a mask.
----
* BeneathTheMask: Her exasperation with Chandra isn't for show. Compared to Brilith's {{Tsundere}} attitude towards Agni, Laila genuinely dislikes her god and displays the bare minimum of tolerance just to appease him.
* BlackCloak: [[spoiler:In N5, she wore one, adding to her ominous appearance where Ran isn't sure if she's friend or foe.]]
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Nobody seems to care at all about her ridiculous mask, presumably because (as the Priestess of Darkness) she's powerful enough to do whatever she wants.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Jibril Ajes, Brilith's mother. They are shown together at age 12 (being a quarter, Laila at the time looked only six). She also worries about Brilith's safety and health due to this friendship.
* ClarkKentOutfit: It's not obvious with the robes she wears, but Laila is rather well-built. Ran can't stop himself from staring when he sees.
* CommonalityConnection: She feels a certain kinship with Leez, both [[spoiler:being a Kubera and thus fighting against fate with a losing hand]].
* DarkIsNotEvil: Is the Priestess of Darkness, but far from evil.
* DeadpanSnarker: Emphasis on the deadpan, but she can be fairly sardonic at times.
* DreamWalker: Darkness silent magic is called dream tracking; she's quite skilled at it. [[spoiler:She uses it several times to wake Brilith up from her nightmares.]]
* GivenNameReveal: [[spoiler:Her real name is Kubera]].
* {{Gonk}}: Most of the time she wears a ridiculously ugly green mask that makes her look like some sort of weird monster. Since it covers her entire head, it's not even obvious at first that it's not her real face.
* HeroicSuicide: Subverted. [[spoiler:While killing herself to send a berserk Chandra back to the god realm is an option, she instead chooses to kill ''him''.]]
* HiddenDepths: Twice over. First, that she's [[spoiler:a Kubera]]. Then much later, that [[spoiler:she's operating according to her own agenda]], making her a {{Wildcard}} as she has no qualms about [[spoiler:concealing her act of killing Chandra and lying to Rana to get a hold of his god-level item]].
* KungFuWizard: Along with being a skilled magician, she's good enough in physical combat to give Teo a run for her money, even if Teo held back due to Chandra's presence.
* MeaningfulAppearance: She has one under her left eye, as someone both stated to be a beauty and doomed to tragedy in her life.
* MeaningfulName: "Laila" means "night" in various languages.
* MoreExpendableThanYou: Invoked for her. Laila would gladly give up her life for others, but as Chandra's summoner, she's painfully aware that she has to be protected, therefore making everyone else more expendable than her.
* MysteriousBacker: She created the A++ rank for Asha and gave her permission to use the Human Search System, despite not seeming to like her much.
* MysticalWhiteHair: She's implied to be extremely beautiful under her mask; the brief glimpses of parts of her face support this. Combined with the pale skin and purple lips, as well as being the Priestess of ''Darkness'', she gives off an otherworldly impression, and while mostly an ordinary human, she ''is'' special thanks to [[spoiler:being a Kubera]].
* NervesOfSteel: Even amidst the constant chaos, very little fazes Laila. A good thing too, since she needs these to deal with the rather childish and temperamental Chandra.
* NoHeroToHisValet: She acts as she pleases around Chandra since, as his summoner, she knows she can get away with it. She's more respectful to Agni, namely because he's actually a decent person.
* NotHyperbole: Played with. According to Claude, Laila doesn't mean it when she says she'll break his neck... she only ever breaks his ''limbs'' instead.
* NotSoStoic: [[spoiler:Having to fight and kill Teo clearly upsets her; even Chandra, who's far away and doesn't know the situation, notices that Laila's vigour levels are unstable.]]
* PragmaticHero: Her struggle between adhering to cold reason and listening to her heart is the basis behind the occasional SadisticChoice she finds herself facing. In part, this is fuelled by Chandra being far, ''far'' on the pragmatic end of things, even compared to Laila, and her contempt for some of his actions.
* RankUp: Much less drastic than Brilith's, but post-{{Timeskip}}, summoning a god bumps up her ranking from 3rd to 1st or 2nd.
* SadisticChoice:
** [[spoiler:She's made to choose between Claude's life or the info he holds, as the other will be lost.]] The being behind it tells her that they're pleased with her choice, and to not let go of that part of her.
** She's forced to make another one--even recalling her previous one as she does so--when [[spoiler:she has to kill Teo, therefore protecting the others at the temple, or try and spare her, knowing that others will likely die in the process]].
* SecretlySelfish: [[spoiler:Although her helping Leez escape seems like an act of goodwill, Teo suspects she did it to increase Leez's chances of dying, which would leave Laila as the final Kubera. It's later implied to be the truth, but otherwise, Laila's motives are largely shrouded in mystery.]]
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Aloof and ruthlessly logical, but also kind enough to look out for Brilith and [[spoiler:choose Claude's life over potentially valuable info]], showing that silent magic hasn't completely robbed her of her humanity.
* {{Tsundere}}: Chandra thinks she's this towards him. Thing is, [[SubvertedTrope he's wrong]]: Laila truly depises him, not only to for killing her master [[ButForMeItWasTuesday and being completely unapologetic about it]], [[JerkassGod but also for being his massively arrogant ass of a self]]. [[PunyEarthlings Not to mention the way he treats her]].
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Claude claims she was once the most compassionate person he knew, compared to her hardened self now.
* VitriolicBestBuds: She's rather violent with Claude (not without reason, mind you) and some of their dialogue towards each other can be vicious, but they have a long history together and [[AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther she does care for him underneath everything]].
* WhamShot: It first seems like [[spoiler:she intends to kill herself to de-summon Chandra... before she pulls out her spear, completely unharmed and therefore revealing that underneath her aloof-but-kind-at-heart personality, there's ''nothing'' she feels guilty over, contrasting the callous but secretly remorseful Chandra]]. It's accompanied by her WhamLine:
-->'''Laila:''' [[spoiler:A summoner who commits suicide to stop a god from going berserk... it will be remembered as a sacred sacrifice. '''But I won't do such a thing'''.]]
* YearInsideHourOutside: When she uses dream tracking, she can spend potential years within the dream, even if it's only some hours in the real world.
* YouCantFightFate: [[spoiler:Chandra warned her of her impending death when she was a child, telling her to hide her identity and to summon him if she found her fate approaching despite her efforts. She seemingly avoids death when Saha is killed instead, but then Season 3 reveals that she's still set to die at this rate.]] She does have a fighting chance, but it's certainly not coming to her easily.
* YouKilledMyFather: She has not forgotten--or forgiven--that Chandra inadvertently killed her mentor during the Cataclysm.

Ran's older brother, Eloth's Creation Priest, and president of the Creation brand Artram.
-----
* TheAce: Handsome, the Priest of Creation, talented enough to have been an AA if he'd tried, president of a company, and by Season 3, the richest person in the world according to Ran.
* AlmightyJanitor: He deliberately slacked off on his magic exams, so his rank is much lower than his actual ability. According to Tilda, he could have been an AA.
* AloofBigBrother: To Ran. It wasn't like this in the past, but he became distant after becoming the Priest of Creation.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To Ran. Lutz is more successful, respected, and (as Ran whines to Agwen) better looking. That said, Ran doesn't genuinely resent him for it, likely because of [[PromotionToParent everything Lutz has done for him]] and because he knows their father pressured him into this path, when Lutz himself had no interest in prestige.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: After Ran [[WhatTheHellHero expresses his horror]] over Claude's willingness to let a girl suffer for the greater good, and everyone's subsequent silence/implicit agreement, he turns to Lutz and asks ''him'' to say something. Though clearly uncomfortable with the entire situation, Lutz responds with a question he can't answer.
-->'''Lutz''': ... So, what do you expect us to do now?
* BadassInANiceSuit: Is almost always seen in a black suit.
* BarrierMaiden: A male example. He is the current Priest of Creation and responsible for maintaining the barrier.
* BenevolentBoss: In a bonus chapter, he's shown working as a waiter to experience the conditions his employees do.
* BigBrotherInstinct: He responded so quickly to [[spoiler:Teo's request for assistance]] because Ran's in Kalibloom.
* CannotSpitItOut: Bonus chapters reveal that he's been in love with Tilda for a long time, but while he made vague attempts at getting closer, he's never said how he feels. Saha called him out on it in the past, telling Lutz that if he couldn't say it now, he would never be able to.
* ChickMagnet: One of the most eligible bachelors around. Agwen tried to set [[SingleTargetSexuality Brilith]] up with him, and the fact she wasn't even into ''him'' was the sure sign that something was up with Brilith's love life.
* {{Dismotivation}}: He slacked off on his magic exams because he didn't want to become the Priest of Creation and instead wanted to stay with his brother. Unfortunately, Lorraine skipped out and he has too great a sense of responsibility to do the same.
* EarlyBirdCameo: He makes several appearances during explanations about magic or in Ran's flashbacks/mental images, but doesn't show up proper until mid-Season 2.
* {{Foil}}: To Asha.
** Both are talented, popular, and handsome magicians whose rank doesn't reveal their true skills.
** Both have a younger person that looks up to them, but while Lutz is a loving elder brother towards Ran, Asha is painfully abusive towards Leez. Both also are AlwaysSomeoneBetter to another (Lutz to Ran, Asha to Brilith). However, Lutz treasures his brother, while Asha had no qualms in destroying her friendship with Brilith.
** They are also somewhat related to massive mental health issues said people have. [[note]]Ran still doesn't accept that he [[spoiler:was responsible for his mother's death]] and believes Lutz's lie that he was, while Brilith at the end of season two went into screaming simply by hearing Asha's name.[[/note]]
** Both were considered smarter than their peers from a young age, but [[spoiler:while Lutz was always a talented magician, Asha originally had almost no magical talent]].
** Both are willing to accept the death of others to achieve goals they believe are bigger and more important, but while Lutz thinks of TheNeedsOfTheMany, Asha kills people to further goals that benefit her only.
** Both have contrasting relationships with Saha and Lorraine.[[note]]Lutz being Saha's ally and someone who called Lorraine out on her deception; Asha and Saha being enemies and Asha being the one to deceive Lorraine.[[/note]] Speaking of Lorraine, her disappearance at some point put both of their goals in jeopardy: Lutz, who had slacked off in his magical exams so as to not move away from Ran, was forced to become Priest of Creation after she ran away, while Asha's [[spoiler:plan of stealing Ananta's power]] suffered from Lorraine's interference in a crucial moment.
* InformedAbility: While he's mentioned to be far more capable than his rank suggests, he doesn't take part in the action in Season 2, making it difficult for the reader to gauge his levels. Subverted in Season 3, where a flashback finally shows just how powerful he is, even when much younger and having just been ''stabbed''.
* KungFuWizard: In addition being the Priest of Creation, it is mentioned that he once reached the later stages of a previous fighter's tournament.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: [[spoiler:He's willing to overlook Asha's serial murder and defend her in a trial. His argument is that the lives that she's saved and can save in the future far outnumber the people she's killed.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: Generally mature and sophisticated, but there are moments that remind you that he's related to Ran (around whom this side especially comes out).
* OlderThanTheyLook: As a Quarter. He's not above using it to poke fun at Lorraine, calling her old when he's actually her elder (but appeared 14 at the time to her 20).
* ThePowerOfCreation: The Priest of Creation, and owner of a Creation brand. He's Ran's (and Asha's by proxy) go-to person for modifying divine items, such as the Hide of Bondage or the Neutral Bow.
* PragmaticHero: Good at heart--Asha even describes him (and Ran) as someone who walks the path of light despite his DarkAndTroubledPast. However, he's willing to put TheNeedsOfTheMany over morality and can veer into being TheSpock at times, albeit with more remorse than the likes of Claude.
* PrettyBoy: The author describes him as the most handsome male character. According to Ran, he has fangirls.
* PromotionToParent: Before he left for school, he was one for Ran since their parents were constantly working. However, that aspect of their relationship has faded since then.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: A Priest and company president who doesn't mind using his position(s) to help the main characters out (the family connection doesn't hurt, but he's careful not to spoil Ran either).
* TheRival: To Lorraine during their school days, both specializing in Creation thanks to their attributes. Amusingly, however, neither of them wanted the "prize" of becoming the Priest.
* TheScapegoat: He killed his and Ran's mother in order to protect Ran, which Ran struggles to fully empathize with. Of course, by the time this is revealed, the reader can guess what ''really'' happened.
* SpringtimeForHitler: Downplayed and zigzagged. Lutz deliberately lowered his performance at the magical exams; being a triple, he's one of the few people that can operate a city's barrier [[note]]Asha is clearly stated to be an exception[[/note]]. However, his attributes are all Brahma, and the Temple of Creation is in Eloth. He didn't want to move away from his little brother, so he did what he could to not go AA. It worked - somehow. He was still given a high rank, and ultimately ended up as Priest of Creation anyway (due to Lorraine running away).
* TooCleverByHalf: A light-hearted example. Lutz is so prodigal (or extremely (un)lucky) that he failed at failing his magic exams! Case in point, despite guessing his way through the speed calculations and purposely screwing up the combat aspect, he got a higher rank than Brilith, the Priestess of Fire who gave the exams everything she had.
* WhatTheHellHero: In the past, he called out Lorraine for leading [[DoggedNiceGuy Saha]] on when she had no intention of marrying him.

The top-ranked magician on Willarv, as well as the Priest of Light and president of the Eloth Magic Guild. Lorraine's fiance. He demanded Asha's death constantly throughout her trial for 29 cases of homicide by magical accident, and argued fiercely (but unsuccessfully) for the passage of a Stolen Goods Law, which would have forced people to return stolen magical artifacts.
----
* TheAce: Genius magician with light powers and high authority that Asha herself described as a "natural born hero".
* BaitAndSwitchTyrant: Because of the way the story of the first and second seasons is set, where the readers (and [[AudienceSurrogate Leez]]) are still led to believe that Asha is either good at heart or at least had a good reason for the magical homicides at her hands, we are introduced to Saha as the [[VillainwithGoodPublicity leader of the magical community who is determined to have Asha executed for her crimes and won't stop when as soon as the opportunity presents itself]], however you only need to read the rest of the entries in his folder and then Asha's to realize that truth behind the case and his pursue of Asha.
* BigGood: As the highest-ranking magician in the world, he's the one who takes charge when Willarv faces genuinely serious threats.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: As he tells Lorraine, the hallmark of a leader is being able to put aside their emotions to do their duty--no matter how much it might pain him.
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler:His real purpose in having Asha's murder trial wasn't to get the death penalty for her, it was to gather all of the top magicians in one place so he can take them to fight in Rindhallow.]]
* DoggedNiceGuy: To Lorraine. He's been in love with her for years, but is very understanding and tells her to do as she likes, regardless of her family pressuring her to marry him.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: He looks so feminine that his fiancee pushed him to enter a beauty contest, which he won with no makeup while in his street clothes.
* EarlyBirdCameo: His silhouette can be seen when discussing top magicians. Lorraine is also mentioned as being engaged, though the connection isn't made until Saha's introduction.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The first time he officially appears, he receives a report of Sura attacking a town several hundred miles away... which he detects and blasts into oblivion without leaving his seat at the Mage's guild.
** His second chapter has him breaking into tears at the realization that one of the other magicians is complicit in Asha's murders, establishing both his sense of justice and his sensitive nature. And before both of these, our first {{Foreshadowing}} about him shows his silhouette arguing fiercely for the Stolen Goods Law (which would mostly be used against magicians like him) while the other magicians are clearly bored and disinterested.
* FamedInStory: Even before the battle of Rindhallow, his very first appearance is Brilith's ImagineSpot about outstanding magicians we can see his silhouette and after his proper introduction we know he was the magician who became famous for having saved Eloth during the Cataclysm by [[OneManArmy single-handedly]] operating the city's turrets and keep sura attacks at bay.
* {{Foil}}: To Asha. They're two of the most powerful magicians in the world, but Saha uses his power for the greater good, while Asha uses it for personal gain. Saha is a stereotypically feminine man, whereas Asha is a stereotypically masculine woman. The author even describes him as the most beautiful man in the world, in contrast to Asha, the most handsome woman. [[spoiler:He also received an oracle about the god Kubera's impending demise, but both the gods who gave them the oracle and the contents of said oracle were likely very different.]]
* GivenNameReveal: [[spoiler:He's Eloth's Kubera.]]
* GoodIsNotSoft: Despite his soft and caring nature, he is utterly devoted to law and justice, and refuses to back down when he feels that someone is genuinely guilty.
* GoodIsNotDumb: He puts a lot more thought into his actions than it seems at first; in particular, [[spoiler:his zealous prosecution of Asha is actually intended to gather as many high-ranked magicians as possible in the Aeroplateau so he can transport them all to Rindhallow and make them fight in humanity's defense.]]
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: Beyond his feminine {{Bishonen}} appearance, he has a soft, sensitive personality... [[GoodIsNotSoft most of the time]].
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: He encourages Lorraine to live her own life, saying that he'll wait for her as long as it takes.
* IWillWaitForYou: He made a promise to Lorraine that he'd wait for her to be ready, no matter how long it took. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, he ended up dying first.]]
* LightEmUp: As the Priest of Light, he naturally has a triple Light attribute and attacks by blasting things with massive columns of light.
* LightIsGood: He's both the Priest of Light and one of the most straightforwardly heroic characters in the series.
* LoveMakesYouDumb:
** Despite it being evident that Lorraine [[spoiler: had no interest in marrying Saha, and was doing everything in her power to make him distance herself from her, he continued to wait for her, thinking that one day she'd love him back. Sadly, this day never came, as he died.]]
** He himself acknowledges his love for Lorraine as a FatalFlaw, given that he ''knows'' she was the one who [[spoiler:gave Asha access to the Human Search System]] against his orders but can't bring himself to interrogate her. Ultimately, [[spoiler:Asha uses this against him, and it's what gets him killed]].
* NiceGuy: So long as you're not [[spoiler:[[SerialKiller Asha]]]], he's kind, accommodating, and understanding. If you are [[spoiler:Asha]], see GoodIsNotSoft.
* PrettyBoy: He once won a beauty contest with no makeup while in his street clothes, and as a Quarter, he [[OlderThanTheyLook ages slowly]], giving him a young pretty-boy appearance.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:He gets killed relatively soon after being introduced in order to show just how far Asha is willing to go for her goals.]]
* SquishyWizard: Implied. Tilda taught him self-defence, but remarks suggest that unlike Lutz, he's no KungFuWizard, as he wouldn't need Tilda as a bodyguard otherwise.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Officially, he is the most powerful magician on Willarv, although Asha may actually be more powerful.
* YouHaveWaitedLongEnough: His family has tried to invoke this on him by setting him up with other candidates (e.g. Rana), but he firmly put an end to it.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:His constant exhaustion hinted that even if he hadn't died, his life was coming to an end due to numerous attempts at summoning Surya.]]

* NoBadassToHisValet: She'll lecture [[BigGood Saha]], wants to speak informally to [[TokenHeroicOrc Yuta]] (but refrains from doing so because then she'll be the odd one out when Lutz sticks with polite speech), and even snaps at ''[[PhysicalGod Chandra]]'' at one point before realizing what she's done.

* RescueRomance: Played with. Saha saved her after the Cataclysm, when she was about to be killed in the [[FantasticRacism backlash against Halfs]], and it's part of what brought them closer. However, at the end of the bonus chapter, it's revealed that ''Lutz'' saved her but had Saha take the credit instead.

On her part, she suggests that she had her reasons for not doing so.]]
* ArtificialLimbs: She has prosthetic legs.
* BaitAndSwitchCharacterIntro: In a similar vein as [[BaitAndSwitchTyrant Saha]], the way Mirha is introduced leds us to believe that she's a nebulous figure of Asha's past who is cooperating with him to bring her down, and even the way she approaches Leez seems suspicious and setting up to convince her of doubting and betraying Asha, nothing further away than the truth, like Saha, she was trying to rescue Leez from Asha, not just because she's one of the Kuberas and as such one her targets, but because she knows firsthand Asha's true character and that she does not care about Leez.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Leez. They both [[spoiler:suffered the loss of their home and loved ones, but tried to smile though it in fear that the only other people they knew would leave them if they didn't]].
* BlowYouAway: She's the Priestess of Wind. We get to see her skill in full effect when she helps defend Kalibloom from Taraka suras, with Agni even complimenting her ingenuity of manipulating ''his'' attacks using wind.
* BrokenBird: She covers it with being a StepfordSmiler, but she admits to Leez that none of her smiles feel genuine anymore, and when speaking to Asha, it's telling that she refers to both Asha and herself as "twisted".
* ChildhoodFriends: Was this with Asha, although it was one-sided on her part, as Asha seemed to just tolerate her.
* ChildProdigy: She was one before the destruction of Carte; her ability has dropped considerably since then, but her wind magic is still unparalleled.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She's a [[spoiler:survivor from Carte]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: She makes a brief appearance in chapter 6 during Brilith's exposition about magic, but doesn't actually show up in the storyline until over ''200 chapters later''.
* {{Foil}}: To Asha.
** Both are survivors from Carte [[spoiler:who were rescued by Rao Leez.]]
** Mirha was offered [[DealWithTheDevil Visnu's deal]], but rejected it.
** Both are powerful magicians whose magical ability was affected during Carte's destruction. Mirha's abilities were hampered, while Asha [[spoiler:gained them.]]
** Both have relationships with Leez that are affected by [[spoiler:their past with her father]].
*** Mirha is kind and supportive towards Leez. She empathizes with her situation, and spends time with her.
*** Asha is very cold towards Leez. She treats her as an inconvenience, and doesn't consider her suffering comparable to her own.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Her room is full of them.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Subverted. She decides to [[spoiler:defend Asha at her trial]] but lays out that she knows about all of the horrible things Asha has done. After all, she doesn't want Asha to think she's doing this out of blind trust, as she did in the past.
* KingIncognito: She wears sunglasses, a hat, and a heavy jacket when she goes out so people don't recognize her.
* LyingToProtectYourFeelings: [[spoiler: Does this to Leez during Asha's trial- in fact, her sole reason for defending Asha was to nullify the pain Leez would feel when the truth was revealed to her. She intended on telling the truth about Asha after Leez left Asha's custody and had time to recover.]] However, Mirha's assisstant [[AwfulTruth jumps the gun and reveals the truth]] [[spoiler: to Leez.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's a Quarter, so she only looks to be half her actual age.
* PaperThinDisguise: The fake name she gives Leez is "Mir." However, she intended it to be temporary from the start as she wanted to get to know Leez without any preconceptions staining the girl's behavior.
* StepfordSmiler: When she was young, she acted a lot like Leez did, smiling so she wouldn't be left alone.
* TeenIdol: Gives off this impression, compared to the other Priests. Apparently, she has rather zealous fans, much to her exasperation. One bonus story even describes her as the top idol in Willarv.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: With Asha. Sort of. Asha never liked her all that much, but any positivity in their relationship is long since gone.

An incredibly powerful magician, quite likely the most powerful one on the planet (though she's ranked 5th since she wasn't allowed to take the last part of the test). She found Leez shortly after her village was destroyed, and took her under her wing once she heard her name. Her goal is also revenge; on whom and for what, exactly, is still unknown.
----
* TheAce: What everybody in Willarv sees her as. With cause. She even has a fanclub.
* AlmightyJanitor: Her magician ranking is already quite high (5th), but the only reason she's not first is due to a technicality. Even the four mages above her are aware that Asha is more powerful than they are.
* AnArmAndALeg: She's very strongly implied to be missing her right arm, but she wears big bulky clothing to hide it.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: To the point that most people get pulled up short when they realise she's actually wearing a skirt. Which she actually does to point out that she's a she. Ran being Ran, it took him dozens of chapters to figure this out.
* BigBadWannabe: Very downplayed in the sense that Asha still presents a very credible threat, but... her character has shades of this. She believes herself to be Visnu's great envoy, the one all his plans were directed to, and the greatest [[TheChessmaster chessmaster]] on the board. The climax of season two completely disabuses her of this notion. [[spoiler:She walks into Sagara's lair with the hopes of achieving her goal - and Sagara laughs at her face. She's so hopelessly outmatched that Sagara doesn't even bother with trying to kill her - which ends up being a mistake, fair enough, as Asha is able to cast ''Hoti Visnu''. However, even this ace in the hole of hers looks more like a child throwing a tantrum than anything else, and doesn't even do that much harm in the end. All in all, Sagara didn't suffer much damage as much as a setback. Not to mention Lorraine, who was also affected, and returned with the sole goal of avenging Saha. Plus, there is the fact that all of those that were affected by the spell are implied to have been given access to knowledge regarding the future, which was Asha's main strength.]] So yes, it's undeniable how much influence Asha has on the story overall, but it's not nearly as much as she believes. Off course, Currygom being Currygom, this could still be completely turned on its head.
* BrokenAce: What she sees herself as... with more cause. She was broken before she reached Acehood. In fact, it caused her to work hard to gain it.
* TheBully: A textbook definition in regards to Leez. Asha is ''incredibly'' abusive of the poor girl, much of which can only be accomplish due to the fact that Leez is extremely dependent on her.
* ChildProdigy: Subverted. [[spoiler:While she was incredibly intelligent as a child, she had very low divine affinity and thus little magical power. According to Saha, one can train to increase their divine affinity, but the results are usually negligible. Asha, however, managed to increase hers from next to none to over ''ten thousand''. The one other person mentioned to have divine affinity this high, Jibril Ajes, was so powerful she could give even ''rakshasas'' a run for their money.]]
* ComesGreatInsanity: She rapidly deteriorates after [[spoiler:killing Saha and taking his power]]. Yuta observes that her mind is falling apart and states that a human wasn't meant to hold such power. The better example of it may be the tantrum (ther's no other word for it, really) she threw when Yuta revealed [[spoiler:he was only helping her because he thought it would be the best for Leez]].
* CondescendingCompassion: This seems to be a pattern for her, not just Leez [[spoiler: although in that case the truth is much worse.]] but according to Mirha, Asha had already this habit in Carte where she would get close to people she considered pitiful and befriend them, Mirha even says that if she had stayed being helpless like that instead of improving herself, Asha may have stuck around with her.
** Ironically, when Ran finds her again in season 3, she accuses him of this, but as she piles up accusations about only caring to make himself feel better, one of the images that are shown is one of the very far and in-between PettheDog moments she showed to Leez.
* CoolBigSis: Averted in every possible way in regards to Leez. Asha goes out of her way to be the exact opposite of this.
* CynicalMentor: [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed.]] She verbally abuses Leez and has no qualms against hurting her to further her goals. [[spoiler:This makes more sense when it's revealed that her original intention in going to Leez's village was to kill her, and that she initially only protected Leez because she knew her father. As of the ''Your Justice And Mine'' arc, she's entered full blown EvilMentor territory]].
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: [[spoiler:She can use Hoti Visnu to turn back time for objects or people, but every time she does so, it eats away at her existence.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Her entire planet was destroyed. [[spoiler:She's a SerialKiller. One of her victims was Leez's father.]]
* DarkHorseVictory: A comment from Maruna suggests Asha is siding with neither suras nor humans, and is in fact aiming for this.
* DeadpanSnarker: Especially towards Ran.
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler:She made some kind of deal with Visnu that allows her to use ''Hoti Visnu'', which should be impossible after Visnu's disappearance. In order to obtain this, she sacrificed "what she valued most", or, more properly, what she would have valued most ''in the future'', which is implied to have been an adoptive familial relationship with Leez and Rao.]]
* DeceptiveDisciple: To Lorraine. She was so good at it that Lorraine even believed in her innocence ''after'' Saha sentenced her to death for her crimes.
* DidntSeeThatComing: She's the "that" that Sagara didn't notice beforehand. As a human mage, she's so unbelievably outclassed in regards to her sura opponents that Sagara, a nastika, didn't even bother with trying to stop her. And she's not wrong: in terms of power, compared to others in the setting, Asha is nothing. But the whole thing about ''Hoti Visnu'' is that it does not revolve around power, isn't it?
* DissonantSerenity: At first, at least. Asha hardly ever changes her expression no matter what's going on around her - but, as the story progresses, this is increasingly subverted. She throws this completely out of the window close to Season Two's ending, when she learns that Yuta was only helping her because he thought it would be the best for Leez - she ''flips out completely'', going as far as scream out loud. How many times before that moment did Asha snap like that?
* DomesticAbuse: [[spoiler:While not in a romantic relationship with Leez, many of their later scenes together are eerily similar to a real life example of this. Asha leaves Leez completely isolated from others under pretext of helping her, constantly destroys her confidence by accusing of her being useless and accuses her of PlayingTheVictimCard when as it becomes more and more evident how awfully she’s behaving. The situation eventually degenerates to the point Leez throws herself off a cliff multiple times trying to become a better fighter in order to try and get Asha’s respect. Asha’s responds by remarking on how lucky Leez has it because her bracelet allows her to learn a skill so easily. She ends up trying to murder Leez. Twice.]]
* EpicFail: She was set to this, at least according to Sagara. Interestingly, everything went according to her plan, except the climax: when she [[spoiler: went to Sagara's lair with the implied goal of stealing Ananta's power, the nastika made it very clear to her that she would never be able to do this. So, basically, Asha failure was so big that stopped her from ''trying'']].
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Is the subject of a number of female crushes.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Lutz. See his entry.
** To Brilith as well. See her entry.
** Even to Mirha. See her entry.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: She went from a little girl [[spoiler:with a low divine affinity of 136]], to one of, if not ''the'' strongest magician on Willarv [[spoiler:and an infamous SerialKiller]].
* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse:[[spoiler: She made a DealWithTheDevil with Vishnu as a child and is in the middle of fulfilling it. She knows she still needs to complete the final "clauses" of her bargain, which at the very least means betraying her supporters by killing their loved ones. Who does she take her frustrations out on? Leez, because her psychological state was too fragile to for her to properly defend herself.]]
* GiverOfLameNames: When she tried to come up with a name for Yuta, she came up with three names; Blacky, Whitey, and Spotty. Her book on topology is also titled "Topology is really easy", which depending on who you ask is ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin or BlatantLies.
* GreenEyedMonster: Towards Leez for a variety of reasons. [[spoiler:Asha to Leez. Ironically all of her reasons for this are ridiculous. She envies the fact that Rao was Leez’s father, but they never met while Asha had a close relationship with Rao until she killed him. Asha also envies Leez’s apparent favor with Mr. who is just using her in the same way Vishnu is using Asha and for her mysterious protector, who is actually Leez herself from the future. Finally Asha envies how people seem to like Leez more than her, but it’s apparent to the reader this is because Asha is rude and contemptuous towards others while Leez is far more friendly. Furthermore most of the people Asha and Leez meet deeply respect Asha and view Leez as a CountryBumpkin or a {{Groupie}} using Asha for fame.]]
* GoodAngelBadAngel: [[spoiler:Rao was the good one, encouraging her to 'live for the living' and supporting her in hopes that she would redeem herself in the future. Claude is the bad one, encouraging her to 'discard' Leez and even attempting to kill Leez for her.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}:[[spoiler: Asha despises people who dismiss her considerable skill as simple genius rather than hard work. However she becomes increasingly bitter towards Leez [[GoodThingYouCanHeal who tortured herself]] for her abilities because Asha felt Leez had it easier than her.]]
** [[spoiler: Later on when she faces against a 5th stage Maruna, she berates his apparent change of heart saying that for all her faults she didn't kill countless humans with her powers like him... except that she ''did'' kill plenty of people with her power with for her own agenda and has yet to shown a single bit of remorse for doing so and it's obvious her hatred for him is completely personal, fortunately, unlike other characters who are suceptible to her twisting of words and manipulations, Maruna simply brushes her off, [[ShutUpHannibal telling that she talks too much and attacks her again.]]]]
* ImportantHaircut: [[InvokedTrope Invoked.]] [[spoiler:She cuts her hair with magic to test her resolve. If she has any doubts, she has the chance to subconsciously miscalculate and [[NightmareFuel slit her own throat]]. She's been doing this since she was ''ten''.]]
* InnocenceLost: The "Asha" arc, which focuses on her past, showcases how this happened to her. At first, no matter how smart or talented she was, Asha was still just another little girl. The whole Carte debacle - and all the shit she went through related to it - destroyed that child.
* IntelligenceEqualsIsolation: When she was at Eloth's university, she was ostracized because of her incredible intellect and power. Now she has a fanclub, but the members usually just admire her power and fame without really knowing her. She also has problems understanding the perspective of the average person, since she often takes her own knowledge for granted.
** However, this is at least partially self-inflicted. Many other brilliant magicians have strong relationships with friends and family, including [[JerkAss Claude]].
* IrrationalHatred: [[spoiler: Towards Leez, even long before they met, back in Carte's transport ship and with the promise of being sponsored by Rao she grew bitter and envious ''instantly'' after she learned that he had a daughter waiting for him at home, implying that she was envious of her having a father while she had no one.]]
* ItRunsInTheFamily: According to her mother, Asha inherited her personality from her father. Lilith worried that it could go beyond simply that, as her father died young - [[spoiler:and she was right in worrying, as the ''Hoti Yama'' spell showed that Asha was never going to live a long life]].
* ItsAllAboutMe: She doesn't care who or how many she kills to gain power. She even says something similar to it when being frank with Leez: unless she comes out as the "victor", nothing matters.
* KickTheDog: Asha is ''made'' of these. [[spoiler:Frequent after reviving Teo. Whereas she was at least cordial to Leez previously, she kicks her belittling, abusive behavior up a notch and rarely misses a chance to hurt Leez emotionally or physically.]]
** [[spoiler:She frequently resurrected her victims in order to test out her spells on them. While the spell she used resurrects them with a different soul (usually that of a low level Asura), her victims had no idea they weren't human.]]
** Then she [[spoiler:reveals that all her past PetTheDog moments were her thinking of Rao. She was never thinking of Leez herself, just the girl's father. Leez dislikes people treating her differently because of her father.]] [[spoiler: And even ''this'' isn't softened at all by the fact that she killed him too.]]
** However, she was also on the receiving end of this once. [[spoiler:Visnu could have healed her arm, but never did it, and simply as a punishment for a relatively small transgression. Honestly, almost everything in regard to her relationship with Visnu has some element of Asha suffering from this]].
* LackofImagination: She is a genius and able to memorize tremendous amount of information and calculations, but she isn't good at ''everything'', WordOfGod said in a recent Q&A that Asha could make a good drawing but that people would be unable to be moved or feel anything from said drawing.
** On a more comedic note, according to the afterword it took her ''two'' hours to come up with the three [[GiverOfLameNames lame]] names she wanted to give to Yuta.
* LadyLooksLikeADude: To the consternation of Brilith and Ran.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Much to her mother's worry.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: To Brilith. When hovering between life and death, the only reason she has to come back is because she can't let Asha be alone.
** Season 3 [[spoiler:grabs this trope by the hair and beats it up in a dark alley. After recovering her memories, the only character that hates Asha more than Leez is Brilith herself.]]
* MiseryPoker: When Ran tells her to be kinder to Leez, who lost her village, Asha replies that she doesn't see how that makes Leez special at all--likely thinking of how she herself lost her planet, therefore technically one-upping Leez.
* MysteriousBacker: For Leez. So far, Asha has been firmly on Leez's side, but she can be very abusive and it's clear she still has her own agenda going that may or may not be in Leez's best interest. [[spoiler:Turns out her ultimate goal is to acquire the power of Ananta.]]
* MysteriousPast: Her dealings with Rao, Visnu, and Kubera, and her experiences on Carte remain unclear for a long time.
* NotSoStoic: Whenever certain details about her past come up, she expresses surprising emotion. In the present day, she even appears [[spoiler:distraught after attacking Leez while the latter was trapped in an [[EscapePod escape pod]] that was about to launch.]]
** It's also PlayedForLaughs during a brief travel montage when Asha witnesses Leez eating with a pair of chopsticks in each hand and is completely shocked.
* PetTheDog: Every once in a while, she'll do something nice for Leez. [[spoiler:This comes to an abrupt end in Season 2. See KickTheDog]].
** She's also very respectful to Yuta, whom she treats as more of an equal. [[spoiler:Or so he thought. The impression he has by hearing her through insight was that even this was solely done out of a desire to use him]].
* PleaseIWillDoAnything: What she tells [[spoiler: Visnu, just for the chance of becoming powerful.]] Followed by an "Anything?', as [[MindRape he immediately makes it clear how she cannot use those words lightly.]]
* PowerAtAPrice: She can use ''[[spoiler:Hoti Visnu]]'', sacrificing [[spoiler:her existence]] little by little with each use. To get the ability in the first place, she sacrificed [[spoiler:what she would come to consider most precious, which is implied to have been Rao, whom she hadn't met yet]].
* RageQuit: [[spoiler: At the end of season 2, when it became clear that she would lose and being mocked by Sagara for this, she uses Hoti Visnu one last time cancelling the last Kubera sacrifice and botching Ananta's resurrection, knowing that it would make her disappear along with the Ananta suras, she almost literally "flipped the board", just so they couldn't win either.]]
* RankInflation: Despite getting the best scores in history on her magic exams, she wasn't allowed to take the last test (compatibility with a barrier stone) because she doesn't have a triple attribute, meaning it would be very dangerous. Normally, the highest rank for someone who can't take that exam is A+, with AA being the rank above it. Her examiner invented the A++ rank on the spot as a mark of her achievement. During the siege on Atera, she proves that she can use a barrier stone anyway (by changing the attribute of the barrier to match her attributes, something assumed to be impossible). The arc is named "AAA," implying ''that'' is the rank she deserves.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Leez's red. Blue again to Ran's red. Yet again the blue to Mirha and Brilith's red, although [[spoiler: the latter regaining her past memories plays with this trope.]]
* {{Revenge}}: Her goal. [[spoiler:It's a stepping stone.]]
* SanitySlippage:[[spoiler: Starts to become increasingly unstable as the time for her to finish her mission approaches.]]
** At the end of Season 2, Yuta tells Leez that Asha originally ''wasn't'' going to KickTheDog as many times as she could, as she'd done by that point, and suspects that something made her go JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope. Season 3 reveals that [[spoiler:her (concealed) conversation with the entity possessing Leez--aka future Leez, unbeknownst to her--made her believe that Leez was being to set up to win over her, and the rest is history]].
* {{Sadist}}: From Asha's backstory, it is fairly obvious that [[spoiler:she subconsciously resents all the people in her life who back-talked about her amazing talents and how they amounted to nothing, but denies her envy and tells herself she just wants power. All the death and mayhem she caused in pursuit of revenge is, in fact, her trying to take out her childhood hatred towards her friends on random people who happened to have something in common with the population of a dead and buried planet.]].
* SoreLoser: It's not apparent at first and sometimes she may even exhibit the exact opposite behavior, and it's possible that it's something that only came out during her SanitySlippage but when it comes to her true goal, she won't ever accept anyone coming on top instead of herself. [[spoiler: She is called this almost word by word in season 3 when it became clear that when she couldn't "win" then she would make it so, that ''nobody'' could. (see RageQuit entry))]]
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Asha's connections are good enough to let her literally get away with murder. [[spoiler:''32 times.'']]
** [[spoiler:That is, until new evidence comes to light. The reveal of Asha being capable of Hoti Visnu, and all the victims having the name "Kubera" reopens the case, and Saha On is pushing for the death penalty.]]
* TakeAThirdOption: Pulls this frequently, like when she changes the attributes of the barrier in Atera.
** [[spoiler:PlayedForDrama when Claude prevents her from killing Laila. She doesn't want to kill Leez, but needs to kill one more Kubera. So what does she do? Go after the third Kubera, Saha On, the number one magician of the whole planet.]]
* TheStoic: When you see any emotion on her face, you know it's something big.
* TheSvengali: To Leez.
* TongueTied: She is physically prevented from talking about certain things.
* TookALevelInJerkAss: A lot of her PetTheDog moments towards Leez disappear over the course of Season 2.
* TheUnchosenOne: This is deconstructed '''''hard''''' in a settimg where magic, gods, suras and destiny are all real, some people are "lucky" since birth to be good at certain things and even fewer people are destined for greatness - note that this doesn't mean they'll be happy, just read Brilith's folder - the fastest and most effective way someone who was never meant to be special to become such is to somehow steal the spotlight from an actual chosen one [[spoiler: and this was exactly was Asha did; Leez was destined to have a golden future had her father lived and provided a stable home and family for her, for Asha to be the one with the strongest future she had to kill Rao essentially ruining her chances and instead make her obsessed into seeking revenge against Asha.]]
* WhatIf: [[spoiler: had Asha not killed Rao Leez, it is implied that he would've adopted her and Asha and Leez would have been sisters. In the end, he died, making this future just an unfulfilled possibility. This future is referred to as the Golden Timeline by the fans, as it would've been the happier future for many characters who are currently in suffering. Even Asha hints at this.]]
-->'''Asha''': [[spoiler: Would the other possibility that you saw in me at the time, the other path that I didn't choose... really have been unhappier than now?]]
* WorldsStrongestMan: She's ranked fifth most powerful mage in the world, but that's just because she wasn't allowed to take the last test. All four of her "superiors" are well aware she is much, much better than them. One of them is even the president of her fanclub.
* WouldHurtAChild: [[spoiler:Some of her murder victims were children.]]
* YoungerThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:She's actually 17 years old since she ceased to exist for three years]]. Wouldn't guess it by looking at her.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:She has only a year or two left of her lifespan. She deliberately overused ''Hoti Visnu'' to disappear for those three years, since she wouldn't have lived long enough otherwise.]]

The only dragon Half on the planet, and strong enough to fight multiple higher-level sura on his own. Famous across the world.
----
* ActionDad: As a 132 years-old dragon Half, he has the power of a 5th stage Rakshasa. He also has a 62 year old daughter.
* TheAtoner: He tries not to make excuses for his actions during the Cataclysm and simply helps out the best he can. Deconstructed: Kasak's behavior regarding his actions is not one of giving excuses, true, but his emotionlessness about the whole thing drives away people, including his own daughter, and makes it remarkably hard for them to sympathize or forgive him - as Laila points out, people haven't forgotten about what he did.
* BigEater: He has to eat large quantities of meat (be they animal or sura) to keep up his vigour levels, and can often be seen snacking on beef jerky. Amusingly, this leads to an incident where Yuta, a fellow BigEater, clears out the pantry before he can.
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: He might know something about Kalavinka's whereabouts, hence why Maruna needs him alive. Not that Samphati gives a shit about that.
* TheComicallySerious: His interactions with Yuta, funnily enough.
* CommonalityConnection: There's a lot he finds irritating about Yuta and is justifiably suspicious of his role and background. But, they both realise that they have a lot in common, even if they are likely to wind up at odds down the line. And, both could get something out of any relationship they cobble together.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Dark and shadowy appearance, Destruction-aligned, and fights to protect the world.
* DestructiveSavior: During the attack on Atera. Agwen freaks out, but as Kasak points out, it's hardly the time to worry about the state of the city.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: As a child, he badly injured his mother without thinking. It's also mentioned in the author afterword that he blew Shess's head off a few times while growing up (even before he knew Shess could survive that), although it's unclear if that was actually unintentional.
* FireForgedFriends: With Leez, due to being each other's only human company for seven years in the sura realm.
* ForgivenButNotForgotten: He's left emotional scars on Agwen that haven't yet healed, and though his celebrity status seems to help mitigate any prejudice against him, Laila reminds him that in Rindhallow, they have ''not'' forgotten what he did during the Cataclysm.
* GoodIsNotNice: He's actually quite heroic, and once things start going down, he essentially dedicates his life to helping out. He's just... not a pleasant person to spend any amount of time with.
* HalfHumanHybrid: His parents were a Quarter and a Nastika. Their story is told in the side novel ''Literature/TheFinite''.
* HappilyMarried: Subverted, in sharp contrast to his parents. Whereas Ian still loved Taksaka despite his true nature and Taksaka cared for Ian even without his earrings, Kasak's wife despised him once she realized what he was truly like and although Kasak initially insisted in ''Literature/TheFinite'' that he'd love her without the earrings, he ultimately didn't.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Deconstructed. Kasak is an unpleasant person to be around, but he willingly fights on the front lines for the sake of others and there are strong hints that his unemotional nature doesn't stop him from caring about his daughter. And yet, his lack of feelings makes it difficult to see his better part, and causes Agwen to feel that he doesn't give a damn about her - because Kasak himself once warned her that, without his earrings, he might not. He ''does'' have a heart of gold, but it serves as no consolation for the people that have to endure his jerk side.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Tragically so, given that Taksaka hasn't exactly led a happy life. While those who know the both of them find Kasak rather different in his own way, Kasak invokes this: just as Taksaka is someone who, in his lack of reason to live, has to fixate on ''something'' to go on, so is Kasak. For Taksaka, it was Ian, now Kasak; for Kasak, it's Agwen.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: After his mother's death, he became this to his father, Taksaka. To an extent, he's one for his daughter as well, who admits to herself that because he's all she has left, she can't let go of him even when it hurts her.
* NeverGotToSayGoodbye: Visnu lied to him about when Ian was due to die (namely so that Taksaka wouldn't get his earrings back until Ian's death wouldn't be so raw) and thus he only returns home long after she's passed, much to his dismay.
* NomDeMom: "Rajof" is Ian's surname, since Taksaka doesn't have one.
* NoSocialSkills: Unbeknownst to Agwen, Kasak ''has'' demonstrated how much he cares... but when they sit down to discuss their issues, it falls apart because Kasak can only give curt answers that make it sound like he's saying what Agwen wants to hear--which is part of why Agwen struggles to believe in him to begin with, as she knows he's perfectly capable of ''faking'' the part.
* NotSoStoic: His emotions are more muted than nonexistent, and he infrequently expresses frustration in his inability to feel without the earrings.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler:When Yuta believes Kasak was delayed in the Crescent Gate because had to get away from Taraka, Kasak casually informs him that no, he just killed her.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: Asha reminds Leez that as a Half, Kasak is old enough to have a grown daughter, despite looking barely older than Agwen (who herself is OlderThanTheyLook). Amusingly, Kasak tends to interact with people who look younger than him but are ReallySevenHundredYearsOld, and so Maruna (~1000 years old) still calls him a kid, and Kasak calls Yuta (a couple hundred years old) ''[[UsefulNotes/KoreanHonorifics hyung]]'' as a barb and Shess the same unironically (Shess being a longtime family friend and almost as old as the universe).
* PapaWolf: He jumps between this and ParentalNeglect as the result of his dragon side. When he wears the earrings, he is a caring, cheerful dad. But when he takes them off, he becomes cold-blooded and extremely neglectful of his daughter. That said, there are signs that he does care for her even in that state.
* PreMortemOneLiner: To [[spoiler:Samphati]]:
-->Those great transcendentals of yours.. Go ahead and use them over there.
* PrefersRawMeat: He prefers to eat large amounts of raw meat, which can make feeding him fairly difficult and expensive.
* PrivateMilitaryContractor: He hires himself out as a mercenary in times of need; Laila mentions in season two that Rindhallow was sending Agwen ''10,000 gold'' '''''a day''''' for his services. He's not OnlyInItForTheMoney, though.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: When tired of Agni's attempts at ObfuscatingStupidity, he threatens to take Agwen and flounce out of the planet (and conflict) altogether.
* TheStoic: As a dragon half, he's almost completely emotionless when he's not wearing his [[PowerLimiter earrings]].
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He looks very much like Taksaka (which was one of many points of contention between them during Kasak's childhood). It weirds Agni out to have someone with Taksaka's face be so... talkative.
* TrainingFromHell: Revealed in season three to be what he does while asleep [[spoiler:with his new earring. If Kasak falls asleep wearing it, he can train in his dreams against Vritra nastikas that have agreed to help. Taksaka is one of them.]]
* UnableToCry: At least, not without his earrings. After his Emotional Resonance induced rampage during the Cataclysm, he shows no emotion, despite having killed his wife. A distraught Agwen asks why he can't even shed a single tear for what he has done. Kasak responds that he can only do so if he has his earrings, as he doesn't feel love for his late wife or his daughter without them. He then tells Agwen that if she wants him to cry she will have to help him find his earrings.
* UncertainDoom: At the end of the second season: [[spoiler:he hasn't returned from the Cresent Gate. Yuta's not sure if the beings that reside within would have seen him as an enemy and killed him, or as an ally.]] In Season 3, he returns alive, though not necessarily well.
* UnevenHybrid: He's not considered so In-Universe, as halfs are classified as anyone with more than 50% of sura blood (that still has human heritage, that is). However, his mother was also a Vritra quarter; Kasak has Vritra blood from both sides of his family.
* UngratefulBastard: Downplayed. It's not until he's (the Half equivalent of) a teenager and receives his father's earrings that he realizes how lucky he was to have Ian for a mother--considering he was an absolute terror of a child who cost her 80 years of her life and nearly killed her--and regrets not having appreciated her up until then.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Inverted. He's trying to make things up to Agwen for his actions during the Cataclysm, if stunted and awkwardly.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: It's why Agwen doesn't give him any brownie points for doing things like protecting her from [[spoiler:a mind-controlled Shess]], as it doesn't require him to do anything he wouldn't have already done. As soon as it becomes inconvenient, she believes he'll abandon her. However, what she doesn't know is that in the Season 2 finale, he does choose to protect her at great cost to himself, confirming for the reader but for no one else that he cares for her above all else.
* WingedHumanoid: He can manifest wings of black [=fire/smoke=] to fly.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:In Season 3, it's revealed that he has a short lifespan (for a Half) and that it's soon coming to an end.]]

Kasak's daughter, and a professor at the magic university in Eloth.
----
* AffectionateNickname: "Princess", courtesy of her father. The reason for it, however, is rather depressing.
* AlwaysSecondBest: As a priest candidate (and therefore emergency replacement) for maintaining Atera's barrier, she was constantly compared to Brilith, the official priestess- usually for their looks, age, personality, abilities (including summoning)- while she had to replace her. However, Agwen [[NervesofSteel kept her cool and didn't let this get to her.]]
* CallingTheOldManOut: Gives a small, but emotionally loaded one to her father, Kasak. [[spoiler: She first points out how (at least, in her perspective) [[TheUnfavorite Kasak treats her]] and [[WhyAreYouNotMySon Leez differently,]] telling Leez (but not Agwen) about his relatively short lifespan. Agwen then recollects the attack on Atera seven years ago, in which she was taken hostage by Maruna, and how despite this, [[ParentalNeglect Kasak seemed to have disregarded her safety.]] Agwen then wonders if Kasak did the same thing when Leez was taken hostage in the sura realm, [[SelfDeprecation and lamented how, even with his restricted ability to care for and love her, she still stayed with him as Kasak was the only family Agwen had left]]. [[IDidWhatIHadToDo What Kasak did to deal with the hostage situation was the logical solution (as Kasak points out after Agwen finishes),]] but what Agwen was implied to be looking for was [[TheUnapologetic a sign of emotion- like regret, or fatherly love.]]]]
* TheCaretaker: It's hinted she was this to her mother, who became mentally ill after Kasak crippled her.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Another one of the Priest candidates shown to have been chased off by Brilith's success earlier in the story.
* FieryRedhead: Rather temperamental and willful. Literally, too: Agwen's a triple Agni. Coincidentally, the Vritra clan's shared attribute is fire.
* HairColorSpoiler: In-universe Eye Colour Spoiler, in her case. Her parents weren't sure how she got blue eyes, since it wasn't from her mother's line and shouldn't be from her father's either--but Taksaka, upon meeting her for the first time, notes that [[spoiler:they look an awful lot like Utpala's...]]
* HotWitch: She's a magician, and her hat is very reminiscent of a witch hat. She even has a staff that resembles a brook.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: She doesn't know it, but just as Kasak is this to his own father, he sees Agwen as his reason to live.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: She seems unaware that Shess is a superior sura. When Agni questions her, she refers to him as an old acquaintance of her father's and is confused as to why he would ask. On the other hand, she's aware by Season 3, so either she tried to lie to Agni or she's been informed since then.
* TheMatchmaker: Her only worry about leaving Atera to live in Mistyshore, post-{{Timeskip}}, is that with Agwen gone, Brilith no longer has anyone to set her up on dates.
* MoreExpendableThanYou: When Atera falls under attack (again), she takes over barrier duty from Natasha, even as it becomes clear that neither has the necessary vigour for it. In turn, Agwen knows that it'll feed off the magician's lifespan, and as a Quarter, she has more to give than Natasha, a pureblood.
* TheMourningAfter: It's implied she hasn't been in another relationship since the Cataclysm. She does mention to Shess that she'd be happy to find a nice man, but the addendum of how it's fine now that her dad isn't around to kill her boyfriend again suggests she's still reeling from the trauma.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Looks to be in her thirties, but as a Quarter, she's in her sixties.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Inverted. She happily took a paycut when she transferred to Mistyshore (and likely a significant one, as one person comments there's no way the city could've offered her enough), as she likes the city itself better than Eloth.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: See below. She also pays to offer the employee far more than the market price for the meat. Overall, combined with a willful personality in general, it seems Agwen's used to doing whatever she wants, earning herself ire from both Chandra (for sharing secrets) and Teo (for bringing alcohol inside a temple).
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveSupernaturalPowers: Or rather, Screw the Rules, My Dad's a Really Hungry Dragon! When she's told that she can't just buy uncooked meat from the chef, she makes it clear that she's not taking no for an answer. (Once they realize who it's for, they quickly acquiesce.)
* SecretKeeper: She's mentioned to be one of the people who knows about Airi's circumstances, and she's also one of Shess's status as a Rakshasa (though Chandra is frustrated that she's not as secretive as he wants her to be).
* SternTeacher: It's mentioned that she's so strict that she fails most of her students, and that one of her former students switched schools ''just to get away from her''. Asha thinks well of her as a teacher, though.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Noted to resemble Ian, her grandmother. Others were hopeful that it'd soften Taksaka--who hated Kasak for not looking like Ian--to her.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Kasak. Leez is surprised to see the (exasperated) way she treats her own father, but Asha tells her that their situation is... complicated. What with, you know, the whole "he killed several people she loved and feels nothing for her without his earrings on" mess.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: She inherited her blue eyes from [[spoiler:her ancestor Utpala]].
* YankTheDogsChain: She's excited to be living in Mistyshore in her debut... only to immediately be sent to Atera as Brilith's backup. In Season 3, [[ThrowTheDogABone she finally gets her wish]].

!!!Quarter, Birth Attributes: Unknown
[[quoteright:218:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nard.png]]

A blind magician hailing from the planet Taitalika, he eventually moved to Willarv along with his lover, Hanuman, at Visnu's request. He sponsored Taksaka to help him meet Ian. After Hanuman left him, he fell into depression and wandered Willarv with his daughter for the rest of his life.

Ran and Lutz Sairofe's grandfather. There is no indication that he's related to Kaz and Haas, the Lehn brothers from Leez's village.
----
* CassandraTruth: His daughter doesn't believe her mother's a nastika. She passes this belief onto her own children.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Hanuman. It... does not end up well.
* KidWithTheLeash: He acts as Taksaka's sponsor and thus is responsible for keeping him from committing too many crimes by accident. Fortunately, with the earrings on, Taksaka does have some motivation to not cause Nard too much trouble (or cost him too much money, paying to repair for all the damage Taksaka causes).
* MayflyDecemberRomance: His relationship with Hanuman was bound to be this from the beginning; he ages at half the rate of a pureblood human being, but Hanuman is an immortal nastika [[TimeAbyss as old as the universe itself]]. Hanuman herself worried that he would die and that she would end up forgetting him; sadly, it never even got to this point, as she left him when Hana was a child.
* NervesOfSteel: Played with. He's able to talk back to Taksaka--knowing full well who he is--and even dares Taksaka to kill him, pointing out that if he does so, he'll never get to see Ian again. Later, though, it's revealed that Nard was ''terrified'' and knows that he has to act like that, since he's supposed to think Taksaka is only a Half.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's a quarter, so he looks half his actual age.
* OneTrueLove: Hanuman. After she leaves him, Nard just falls apart.
* PortmanteauCoupleName: InUniverse. How he and Hanuman named Hana. See Hana's entry.
* PosthumousCharacter: Not in ''Literature/TheFinite'', but he's long dead by the time of ''Kubera''.
* UglyGuyHotWife: Inverted, at least as far as Hanuman is concerned. Nard disagrees.
* WalkingTheEarth: After Hanuman leaves, Nard falls into severe depression, and spends the remainder of his life wandering Willarv with his daughter.

The first priest of Earth and first (human) owner of the Golden Knight Bracelet. He lived on Planet Taitalika during the Fiendish Magic Incident.

----
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler:Fiendish Magicians]] were regarded as having made this in universe.
* {{Revenge}}: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. While he does want revenge for his mother’s death, he’s more interested in explaining [[spoiler:why she refused to reject fiendish magic]] and helping his companion.
* PosthumousCharacter: Enan lived through the Fiendish Magic Incident around a thousand years before the series began.
* FamedInStory: Everyone knows him as the first Priest of Earth and as a fighter who became such thanks to the Golden Knighgt.

!! Enan's Companion
!!!Unknown, Birth Attributes: Unknown

A girl who is the companion of Enan in Taitalika, like him, she also seeks revenge on the 16th Daksha, for what happened to her and her sister.

------
* {{Deal with the Devil}}: She gets to do it twice, the first one technically when she made a contract with Kinnara to user her sanyoga magic, the seconds [[spoiler: when she accepts to take on the "disease" consumming Kinnara.]]
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler: She is warned of this by Kinnara, that by taking on the disease that was killing her [[note]]actually the name of "Kinnara"[[/note]] and getting the power to achieve her revenge, she would be banished from the afterlife, even from hell, and instead being sent to a endless void where she will face annhilation.]]
* {{Invisibility}}: perhaps more like VisibleInvisibility as Maruna is able to see the outline of her form with his superior sight, but she is able to cloak herself into being almost invisible with the magic she got from her contract with Kinnara.
* {{Made a Slave}}: She barely avoided this, she was about to be sold as a slave when she was saved by Kinnara.
* MisplacedRetribution: The source of her anger, neither she or her sister were even involved with the incident that ended up with the killings of Tailalika's royal family, her sister was a merchant who made deals with the knights and was sentenced along them, while she was almost sold as a slave for no other reason other than being family with her.
* NoNameGiven: She is never formally introduced neither to the readers or to Maruna. [[spoiler: which actually ends up being significant, as she is tricked by Airavata into taking on another name, by the time Enan actually calls her by name, he's already calling her Kinnara]]
* {{Revenge}}: Like Enan she wants revenge against the king of humans, '''unlike''' him, she is much more set on making the king suffer for what was done to her and her sister.
* UncertainDoom: After she [[spoiler: takes on the name of Kinnara]] and goes on a rampage, we aren't sure what happened to her, we are only told that the king succesfully stopped her, [[spoiler: however it's confirmed that at least that the real Kinnara was apparently taken by God Kubera into the human realm.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: She is so thankful and loyal to Kinnara as a thanks for saving her, that she offers herself to save her from being killed by God Kubera, by taking for herself the "disease" that was supposedly killing her.
