The {{Oni}} are hideous horned demons from Japanese folklore. 10 of them (led by Tarakudo) commanded an army of [[LivingShadow Shadowkhan]], who are demonic shadow warriors.
----
* AncientEvil: An evil army led by magical warlords that ravaged ancient Japan before being defeated and imprisoned. As stated in the TimeAbyss section below, said army is possibly even older that the eight Demon Sorcerers.
* BadassArmy: The Oni and Shadowkhan could possibly engulf the entire world in darkness (figuratively and [[TheNightThatNeverEnds literally]]).
* CastingAShadow: All of them manipulate shadowy magic to produce their minions.
* FangsAreEvil: The Oni have sharp teeth.
* HornedHumanoid: The Oni have small horns.
* InterchangeableAsianCultures: Averted, as the major thrust and conflict of their entire arc is that Chinese and Japanese supernaturals are very different. Uncle struggles in the face of combat a force he wasn't trained to combat. It is Tohru, who manages find ways to combat them in the folktales of his childhood.
* KeystoneArmy: While generally efficient, the Shadowkhan are dependent on their masters' instructions. Other than the Oni, people can control them only as long as they're wearing an Oni Mask or having [[spoiler:Tarakudo's mark]]. [[spoiler:Imprisoning Tarakudo in his mask seals also his Generals and all the Shadowkhan.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: During the 4th season, when Tarakudo or the Oni are involved, you hear a quiet sinister tone.
* NearVillainVictory: [[spoiler:The Oni Generals are released [[NiceJobBreakingItHero by the heroes]] unknowingly doing the very thing that destroys their mask prisons -- by gathering them in one location. The Oni then [[AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs conquer Section 13]] and begin summoning enough Shadowkhan to cover the entire Earth in darkness. Tarakudo imprisons the J-Team, and the Generals set out to spread the veil of darkness unopposed. The J-Team is able to stop and seal the Oni and the Shadowkhan away only after they accidentally discover the existence of the mask used for that purpose, and even then, getting the mask and placing it on Tarakudo's face is no easy feat.]]
* TheNightThatNeverEnds: The combined power of Tarakudo's nine generals could summon enough Shadowkhan to shroud the entire Earth in eternal darkness. Why they didn't do this before they were trapped in masks isn't explained.
* NothingCanStopUsNow: Ikazuki and Tarakudo say this line in Season 4's finale after they have imprisoned the J-Team.
-->'''Ikazuki''': It would seem humankind's last line of defense...
-->'''Tarakudo''': ... has reached the end of their line. Allowing our generals to resume their progress toward making this world a much darker place.
* {{Oni}} / {{Youkai}}: The Oni are fearsome ogre-like [[OurDemonsAreDifferent demons]] from Myth/JapaneseMythology.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Once all 9 Oni Generals are united, they collectively possess enough power to eventually cover the entire world in darkness. Presumably, if Tarakudo were not a floating head, he could do this all by himself.
* SealedArmyInACan: Tarakudo was reduced to being a floating head and imprisoned in another dimension, while all the Oni Generals and their respective Shadowkhan tribes were trapped inside the Oni Masks. After Daolon Wong accidentally released Tarakudo, the latter seeks to liberate the other Oni and Shadowkhan. [[spoiler:Eventually all the Oni and Shadowkhan are freed from their imprisonment, however all of them are trapped again inside a final Oni Mask placed on Tarakudo's face.]]
* TimeAbyss: Like the Demon Sorcerers, Tarakudo and his Generals are ancient, but their actual age is never stated. The fact that Shendu used one of the Oni Masks to summon the Shadowkhan, indicating they were defeated before he was turned into a statue, hints that the Oni might be even ''older'' than the Demon Sorcerers.
* WeaksauceWeakness: According to Tohru, onions drive away the Oni, demonstrated when Tarakudo himself becomes much less good in the presence of said produce and retreats when its thrown in his face.

-->''I am the one and only King of the Shadowkhan!''

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MiguelFerrer

The main villain of Season 4. He is the king of the Shadowkhan and lord of all Oni. He seeks to release his nine Oni Generals and their Shadowkhan armies to take over the world.
----
* AffablyEvil: The least strict boss to the Enforcers and not particularly malevolent - while he still wants to take over the world, he isn't a dick about it.
* AllAccordingToPlan: Says this in ''Black Magic'' after [[spoiler:tricking Captain Black to summon the Sumo Khan and allowing him to take the Enforcers into custody]].
-->'''Tarakudo''': Ahh, things are going exactly as I envisioned.
-->'''Finn''': This is the plan?
* ArcVillain: Tarakudo appears in the first and last episodes of the fourth season.
* AristocratsAreEvil: He styles himself as the "Lord of all Oni" and "King of the Shadowkhan".
* BadBoss: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] when compared to the other {{Big Bad}}s of the series, though he has his moments when the Enforcers stretch his patience.
* BattleStrip: [[spoiler: When he regains his body, he prepares for battle... by ripping off his shirt.]]
* BeardOfEvil: He has a goatee to complement his classical samurai mask appearance.
* BenevolentBoss: This is the one of the biggest things that set him apart from the other villains. While the others have at best strained relationship with their associates, Tarakudo treats his underlings - human or Oni - more leniently, and his Generals are never shown plotting behind his back.
* BerserkButton: He becomes absolutely murderous once he finds out that the J-Team has obtained [[spoiler:his mask]].
--> "[[IllKillYou I shall destroy you all!]]"
* BigBad: Of Season 4, being the leader of the Oni and the Shadowkhan.
* BigNo: He yells this when [[spoiler:he's being sucked into his mask]].
* BroughtDownToBadass: When Tarakudo is hit with a spell that causes him to [[spoiler:have a body so that the tenth mask can be used to seal away him and the rest of the Oni]], it also removes his MindOverMatter powers. [[spoiler:Even without them, sticking the mask to his face proved to be the only way to stop him and his armies.]]
* CardCarryingVillain: So much so that just the thought of good magic makes him feel sick.
* CatchPhrase: "[[OwMyBodyPart My eyes! My eyes!]]" (when hit with an [[KryptoniteFactor onion]])
* TheChessmaster: He shows himself to be a long-term planner with his XanatosGambit example (see below) and the fact that he [[spoiler:hid the only known object that could be used to defeat him in a nearly inaccessible realm]].
* CombatPragmatist: When he turns out to be evenly matched in telekinesis with Eggbert the Noble Rooster, he uses a distraction to take the rooster out.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: While the other villainous groups were prone to infighting and [[BadBoss mistreating]] their workers, Tarakudo has a much more professional relationship with his generals and is fairly patient with the Enforcers, even explaining what Oni Masks' Shadowkhan do what. He's also much less formal, with a greater sense of humor.
* DeadpanSnarker: He provides more humor than the other {{Big Bad}}s with his dry wit.
* DemonLordsAndArchdevils: An Oni warlord with a lord's title.
* DetectEvil: A rare inversion as he gets the "willies" due to sensing strong ''good'' magic.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Well before he officially appears in Season 4, his face is first shown [[spoiler:on the cover of the Demon Archive, from which Jade makes [[MarkOfTheBeast a tattoo]] on her leg in ''Queen of the Shadowkhan''. Also, in ''Sheep In, Sheep Out'', the same mark is shown in Daolon Wong's cauldron when the dark chi wizard summons the Ninja Khan to serve him]].
* EvilGenius: For most of season 4, Tarakudo is little more than an [[BoringButPractical intangible floating head]] with MindOverMatter powers. Yet he manages to he a credible threat due to his quick planning (such as his decision to make Captain Black TheMole after he puts on an oni mask) and manages to [[WeakButSkilled make the most out of his abilities.]] In fact [[spoiler:during the season finale, it’s revealed that Tarakudo was pulling a XanatosGambit all along, when the heroes get all the oni masks which destroys the masks and his oni generals are released.]]
* EvilPlan: Reunite his nine Shadowkhan armies and cover the entire Earth in darkness.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Helps that his voice is provided by Miguel Ferrer.
* EvilWearsBlack: [[spoiler: When he regains his physical body, he appears in a black gi with [[RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver red patterns]].]]
* FlyingFace: For most of Season 4, Tarakudo is a floating head giving orders.
* GeniusBruiser: [[spoiler:After spending the entire season as an OracularHead capable of PsychicPowers and adaptive strategy before regaining his physical form, Tarakudo is revealed to be capable of single-handedly beating the J-Team with martial arts.]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: Of the three first seasons due to one of his Shadowkhan armies being used as Shendu and (briefly) Daolon Wong's EliteMooks, not to mention the [[MarkOfTheBeast mark of his face]] corrupting Jade into the [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Queen of the Shadowkhan]].
* IntangibleMan: Tarakudo is an Intangible Floating Demon Head. It makes him a very difficult enemy to fight, but also forces him to rely heavily on his minions. He still prefers it to having a real body, [[spoiler:since the only way he would get that is if someone found the mask that can [[SealedEvilInACan seal him away]]]].
* KickTheDog: After the Bat Khan mask is removed from Scruffy in ''The Amazing T-Troop'', Tarakudo makes a telekinetic shot at Jade. Scruffy takes the shot and seems to die. Tarakudo merely says "Oops" and callously vanishes. [[spoiler:Good thing nothing happened to Scruffy.]]
* KungFuWizard: [[spoiler:After being forced into a physical body, Tarakudo drops the mental tricks and starts kicking ''Jackie's'' butt single-handedly.]]
* ManipulativeBastard: When some of the Oni Masks end up on the faces of more noble-minded people, Tarakudo accelerates their corruption by encouraging or tricking them to call upon their darkness within.
* MarkOfTheBeast: [[spoiler:If anyone gets a tattoo of Tarakudo's face, they will have demonic powers and become evil.]]
* MindOverMatter: Tarakudo has the power of levitation and telekinesis.
* MyNameIsInigoMontoya: "Bow before Tarakudo, King of all Shadowkhan, Lord of all Oni!"
* OutsideGenreFoe: As the majority of the shows villain's were Chinese in origin, none of the heroes were prepared for a Japanese one to appear. Even Uncle had no idea who he was when he showed up.
* PungeonMaster: He makes puns more than his predecessor {{Big Bad}}s. In ''[[HalloweenEpisode Fright Fight Night]]'', after reproving Jackie's lack of a Halloween costume, he places a Jack-o'-lantern on his head, naming him "Jackie-o'-lantern". And in ''Ninja Twilight'', when he first meets Viper, he says that she's quite a catch before trapping her in a fishnet.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: He's red-skinned with black on some places. [[spoiler:He also wears a black gi with red patterns in his physical form.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: Personality-wise, the collected Tarakudo is blue to the boisterous Ikazuki's red. It's ironic because, in literal terms, Tarakudo's and Ikazuki's faces are red and blue respectively.
* SatanicArchetype: Tarakudo has red and black colors in addition to horns and fangs. He also holds command over nine other demons and their infinite armies from the Shadow Realm as their Lord and King. Oh, and any mortal who marks themselves with his face is corrupted into a demon.
* SealedEvilInACan: Tarakudo is accidentally released from imprisonment in another dimension by Daolon Wong. [[spoiler:In the end of the season, Tarakudo's own mask is placed on his face, which traps not only him, but also all the other Oni and Shadowkhan.]]
* ShirtlessScene: [[spoiler: After the above mentioned BattleStrip, he spends his final screentime shirtless.]]
* SingleStrokeBattle: [[spoiler: After he regains his body, he performs this on El Toro and Viper at the same time, in mid-air no less. No weapons are used, and no blood is spilled.]]
* SoreLoser: He admits being this before committing the above mentioned KickTheDog moment.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Unlike most of the major supernatural foes shown, Tarakudo has amber eyes instead of red.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Twice during the show, Tarakudo asks Jade if she's going to reclaim her title as the Queen of the Shadowkhan. It's up to debate how serious he is about this, but it's hinted that [[VillainTakesAnInterest he'd want to be her mentor]].
* WeaksauceWeakness: As an Oni, Tarakudo's eyes are very sensitive to onions, and having it thrown in his face will make him retreat.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: For the above mentioned reason, he freaks out anytime he sees an onion.
--> "[[OhCrap No!]] [[AnythingButThat Anything but onions!]]"
* XanatosGambit: [[spoiler:The Oni generals are released whenever all nine masks are assembled in one place. Since Tarakudo is the only one that knows this, whether he gets all the masks, or the J-Team does, he still wins.]]
* YouExclamation: He does this when he first meets Jade, recognizing her as the former Queen of the Shadowkhan.
* YouHaveFailedMe: When Chow loses the Ninja Khan Mask in ''The Masks of the Shadowkhan'', Tarakudo says this trope word for word. [[SubvertedTrope However, when Chow kneels for mercy, Tarakudo brushes it off, stating the setback to be minor in the long run]]. [[spoiler:This is foreshadowing that Tarakudo succeeds in his goal of unsealing the generals even if the J-Team takes all the masks. Since there's less at stake, he's not as upset at his minions for failing.]]
* YouHaveNoIdeaWhoYoureDealingWith: He says this to Uncle during their second confrontation.
-->'''Tarakudo''': You have no idea who you are dealing with.
-->'''Uncle''': Enlighten me.
-->'''Tarakudo''': [[KneelBeforeZod Bow before Tarakudo]], [[BadassBoast King of all Shadowkhan]], [[MyNameIsInigoMontoya Lord of all Oni]]!
-->'''Uncle''': ''*gasps*'' So you ''are'' Japanese!
-->'''Tarakudo''': ''*knocks Uncle down with a telekinetic strike*'' [[DeadpanSnarker Consider yourself enlightened]].

The 9 Oni who served Tarakudo as the commanders of the 9 sections of his Shadowkhan army. Each of them has been trapped inside a mask. Any mortal who wears an Oni Mask will be possessed, and can summon a unique type of Shadowkhan.
----

* BaldOfEvil: Most of them don't have hair on their heads.
* BodyHorror: When a mask is worn, the user's face (and sometimes their whole body) will change to resemble that of the Oni possessing them.
* BodySnatcher: Once the mask's host uses their Shadowkhan, they begin to have equal control of the user's body, whether the user (namely Captain Black, Finn, Paco, Jade and Valmont) want them to or not.
* BrainFood: Apparently some, if not all of them, like to eat human brains.
* CastingAShadow: Summoning the Shadowkhan and spreading darkness are the main powers of the Oni Generals.
* TheCorruption: Anyone wearing a mask is slowly taken over by the Oni within. It's subtle at first, but the longer a mask is worn and more power is used, the more influence the Oni gains on the wearer until they barely act like humans at all anymore.
* DemonicPossession: When an Oni Mask is placed on the face of the user, they are still conscious of their actions, but are greatly influenced by the mask, and eventually it will completely take over. Good natured individuals keep control longer, but will eventually fall under control, especially if they attempt to use the Oni's powers. Finn was the only one who wasn't affected, because the Rat Talisman awakened Ikazuki was accidentally placed on his butt.
* {{Evil Mask}}s: The season's {{MacGuffin}}s are masks that can summon different breeds of Shadowkhan. That is the main reason the human villains want the masks in the first place.
* EvilWearsBlack: [[spoiler: After they are freed from their masks, they wear almost fully black uniforms.]]
* {{Flat Character}}s: Aside from Ikazuki, they don't get much characterization beyond vileness and loyal devotion to Tarakudo.
* {{Four Star Badass}}es: They all command vast Shadowkhan armies, and they fought personally before their imprisonment [[spoiler:and after their liberation]].
* LightningBruiser: [[spoiler:The Sumo Khan General is much stockier than the others, yet is able to keep up with them in speed.]]
* [[MaskOfPower Masks of Power]]: Anyone who wears an Oni Mask gains control over the respective Shadowkhan army and enhanced physical abilities.
* SealedEvilInACan: All of the Oni Generals are trapped within masks and by extension, the Shadowkhan they control. [[spoiler:Ultimately, all the Generals are sealed in the mask designed to imprison Tarakudo.]]
* SlasherSmile: Their pointy teeth cause them to make these.
* SummonMagic: Each Oni General commands a tribe of Shadowkhan and, as per usual, can summon them at will. Shendu commanded one tribe because he magically manipulated one of the masks.
* SuperToughness: [[spoiler:After they are released from their masks, a blast from the Dragon Talisman doesn't injure them.]]
* TheVoiceless: Excluding Ikazuki, they're never heard speaking.
* UndyingLoyalty: They all have this towards Tarakudo, as they're never shown plotting behind his back.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Onions can normally hurt them, unless an Oni Mask is attached to a human host.
* WildHair: Some of them have this, as you might expect from the reputedly wild Onis.

The only Oni General who is named. He is the second-in-command behind Tarakudo. He can summon Samurai Khan.
----
* BringIt: When he makes Finn hand walk in order to fight Jackie, he makes this gesture with Finn's foot.
* ButtMonkey: Despite being the most powerful and the only named one of the Oni Generals, Ikazuki is often at the butt of all jokes. First by being revived without a body, then by literally being stuck on Finn's butt for his debut episode, [[spoiler:and finally being "creamed" between Viper and El Toro's body slam]].
* CoolHelmet: An illustration of Ikazuki depicts him wearing a samurai helmet. [[spoiler:He gets back to wearing it after he's released.]]
* ConfusionFu: In order to fight Jackie while stuck on Finn's backside, Ikazuki has him walk on hands. By using Finn's limbs in this unusual fighting position, Ikazuki gains an edge over Jackie.
* TheDragon: In ''The Demon Behind'', Ikazuki is addressed as Tarakudo's second-in-command by Tohru. This comes into play in the fourth season finale, where Ikazuki orders the other Demon Generals to attack the Chans and remains with Tarakudo at Section 13 base during the Earth's invasion.
* TheDreaded: Ikazuki is feared as Tarakudo's most fearsome general. However, it's played for laughs as he ends up the ButtMonkey in all appearances -- in his first, literally.
* EverythingsBetterWithSamurai: He commands Samurai Khan and is acknowledged as the most fearsome Oni General.
%%* EvilIsHammy
%%* EvilSoundsDeep
* GoodCopBadCop: He ends up trying this trick with Finn on Tohru to make him provide them the mask removal potion, with Ikazuki being the Bad Cop to Finn's Good Cop.
* HotBlooded: He is bad-tempered and quick to bark orders and threats.
* {{Jerkass}}: He's respectful toward Tarakudo and presumably toward the other Generals, but toward everyone else he acts condescendingly. [[HoistByHisOwnPetard This attitude plays in his defeat]] when [[TheDogBitesBack Finn removes him from his butt and renders him back to his powerless state]], both because he's fed up with Ikazuki's arrogance and [[PottyEmergency needs to go to the bathroom]].
* KneelBeforeZod: Twice he orders people to bow before "his mighty form".
* MeaningfulName: The word "ikazuchi" is Japanese for "thunder". And this general's personality is thunderous.
* {{Pride}}: He has a high opinion about himself, calling his face glorious and refusing to humble himself before anyone else than his master even as a powerless talking mask.
* NumberTwo: He is Tarakudo's second-in-command and exerts a degree of authority over the other Oni generals.
* RedOniBlueOni: Personality-wise, the boisterous Ikazuki is red to the collected Tarakudo's blue. It's ironic because, in literal terms, Tarakudo's and Ikazuki's faces are red and blue respectively.
* SealedEvilInACan: Like the other generals. [[spoiler:Is ultimately imprisoned within Tarakudo's mask, along with everyone else.]]
* SummonMagic: He commands, and can summon, the Samurai Khan.
* TwoBeingsOneBody: The Rat Talisman is used on his mask to make him talk. Later he accidentally is stuck onto Finn's rear.
* UndyingLoyalty: He refuses to reveal the Chans a way to defeat his master when they're interrogating him.
* VillainousFriendship: Tarakudo is the only one whom Ikazuki is shown addressing in a respectful manner. When Tarakudo first meets Ikazuki after centuries of separation, he says it to be good to meet his right-hand again, looks disturbed by the unusual situation Ikazuki's in at the time and tries to address it in a polite way.
* VillainousValour: Say what you will about Ikazuki's arrogance, but he doesn't lack daring. After it becomes clear he's powerless as a bodiless talking mask, he refuses to answer the Chans' questions about his master's weaknesses. He then manages to sneak out of Section 13 by holding on to people's clothes with his teeth. While stuck on Finn's rear, he fights Jackie by making Finn hand walk, actually gaining the upper hand. After Finn removes Ikazuki himself, the general retains his defiant attitude until the Rat Talisman is removed from him.
* VillainRespect: He considers [[MightyGlacier Tohru]] to be a worthy potential host.

Demonic shadow spirits. They were introduced as {{ninja}}s who served Shendu, and briefly [[KidWithTheLeash Jade]] and Daolon Wong. In Season 4, we learn that their original masters were the Oni, and there are nine different varieties of them.
----
* TheCorruption: To anyone who summons them who isn't already evil, and sometimes even then. It's the summoning that starts it, not the Oni Masks, as the corrupting only sets in once they are called upon. Though more noble-minded people can resist for a time, the Oni's influence will dominate the host eventually.
* DarkIsEvil: Quite literally, in a case of {{Living Shadow}}s.
* DefeatEqualsExplosion: When they "die", they vaporize into black mist. This was never shown to happen in any other season than the fourth, though.
* EliteMooks: They are far more skilled and deadly than the Enforcers.
* EvilWearsBlack: They have black clothes (or black skin).
* FacelessGoons: There's exactly only one instance in the entire series when a Shadowkhan is shown without its mask.
* {{Hive Drone}}s: The Shadowkhan armies are pretty much this if the respective Oni General or Oni Mask wielder is the HiveQueen: they have a wide range of abilities by default, don't speak or show individualism whatsoever and materialize only to protect their master and carry out orders without question.
* HumanoidAbomination: All but the Leech Khan and the Squid Khan, to varying degrees.
* InvincibleVillain: Like the Dark Chi Warriors, killing them doesn't seem to do anything other than send them back to the shadow realm from whence they came, at which point they can just be summoned by their master again.
* TheLegionsOfHell: They're demonic warriors serving ten Japanese demons, they originate from the Shadow Realm, and they're so numerous that they can cover the entire Earth in darkness.
* LivingShadow: Shadowkhan are just that, shadows manifested into physical form.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: They all wear ninja-like masks. We only get to see one Squid Khan's mask removed (and its face wasn't pretty). Presumably, all Shadowkhan are equally as horrifying underneath.
* MonstrousHumanoid: Some of them (namely the Ninja Khan, Samurai Khan and Sumo Khan) look more humanoid than others, with the main aspect of their appearance revealing that they're not human being the bluish-gray skin and red eyes visible under their clothing.
* MundaneUtility: Some people have used the Shadowkhan for something else than combat. For example:
** When Jade got control of the Ninja Khan in "Queen of the Shadowkhan", she used them as household servants.
** When Ratso got the Razor Khan Oni Mask, he used his Shadowkhan to play baseball.
** Captain Black is a double subversion. When he got the Sumo Khan Oni Mask, he decided to replace all the Section 13 agents with Shadowkhan, claiming that they were better than humans in every way. We see several shots of Shadowkhan typing on computers, checking folders, arresting people... and mopping the floor.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: They come in many different shapes and sizes.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Like the Demon Sorcerers, Shadowkhan all have glowing red eyes of some sort, except for the eyeless Leech Khan.
* SealedArmyInACan: The Shadowkhan are all bound to the Oni Masks, until someone wears a mask and summons them. [[spoiler:In the end, all the Shadowkhan are trapped inside Tarakudo's mask, along with the Oni.]]
* ShadowWalker: The Shadowkhan can use shadows as dimensional doors. They once traveled through the Shadow Realm in order to [[DreamWalker enter Jade's dream]].
* SlaveMooks: They silently obey their master without question and will do whatever they are commanded to, whether theft or violence or even mundane housekeeping. The fact that both Jade and Tohru turned into Shadowkhan merely after gaining a tattoo of Tarakudo suggests this might well be literal and it could be that ''all'' Shadowkhan were at one point normal animals and people who were transformed against their will into these creatures.
* SmokeOut: Ninja Khan sometimes disappear by using smoke bombs. Samurai Khan are also shown to be capable of this.
* StealthyMook: All of them are capable of spying and sneaking up on people with their shadow-travel abilities.
* SummonMagic: The Shadowkhan can be summoned anywhere where there is ambient shadow.
* AVillainNamedKhan: Shadow'''khan'''.
* VillainOverride: It's shown in "Black Magic" that an Oni Mask wielder can [[SeeingThroughAnothersEyes see and hear through their Shadowkhan's senses]].
* TheVoiceless: They never speak, and it's likely that they even can't speak.

The most common kind of Shadowkhan, and the only type seen until Season 4. They have been summoned by Shendu and Daolon Wong (through sorcery), Jade and Tohru (with the Mark of Tarakudo), and Chow (with an Oni Mask).
----
* ConservationOfNinjutsu: Whether it's five or dozen of them, they would take the same amount of effort to dispatch.
* FlechetteStorm: Sometimes they do this with their shuriken.
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Averted. While they usually face the heroes face-to-face, they are actually very good at being stealthy and unseen in spite of their numbers.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: When their mask is worn by Chow, they are dispelled after Jade takes a shuriken thrown by one of them, which is then used to make the associated mask removal potion.
* HumanoidAbomination: They're the most human-like in appearance, besides the blue skin and red eyes.
* JackOfAllStats: When compared to the other Shadowkhan, they appear to be the most versatile. Most of the others are physically stronger, but only a select few, like the Razor Khan and Crab Khan, can rival them in speed and agility. Though incapable of flight like the Bat Khan, their uniforms have tissue that allows them to glide. The Razor and Samurai Khan fight with knives and katanas, respectively, the Bat Khan can shoot laser from their hands, and all the others fight unarmed, but the Ninja Khan demonstrate proficiency with different weapons (mainly shuriken for long-range fighting like the Bat Khan's lasers) and unarmed combat.
* McNinja: Subverted. They initially seem like this, as ninjas are Japanese and Shendu is Chinese. Eventually it's revealed that Shendu merely possessed the mask that grants control over them.
* MookCarryover: Inverted. They are introduced as servants of Shendu, but they originally served Tarakudo, despite him not appearing until Season 4. Played straight with Jade's [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Queen of the Shadowkhan persona]] and to a lesser extent with Chow when he puts on the mask, though in both cases the summoner became BrainwashedAndCrazy. Daolon Wong tried to do this, but ended up freeing Tarakudo instead, though he had briefly controlled them in an earlier episode.
* {{Ninja}}: They run and [[InASingleBound jump around]], use martial arts, and throw shuriken.
* NotQuiteFlight: They have in their suits capes which they can use for gliding.
* ReplacementMooks: When Daolon Wong gets fed up with the Enforcers' incompetence in ''Sheep In, Sheep Out'', he replaces them with the Ninja Khan until he decides that they're not superior after all.
* WallCrawl: They're shown to be able to do this without any visible tools for that purpose.

These Shadowkhan attack with sharp blade-like claws. They are summoned by Ratso with an Oni Mask.
----
* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Several that serve as [[AbsurdlySharpClaws their fingers]] and legs.
%%* AudibleSharpness
* LightningBruiser: They're arguably even faster and more agile than the Ninja Khan, and their razor-sharp claws give them great offense. Though they're thin, one's able to wrestle itself out of Tohru's bear hug, and another can withstand two of Jackie's kicks without being taken out. When Tohru's new stun spell is not available, Jackie has to use lasers and heavy car parts of a car factory to dissipate them.
%%* MonstrousHumanoid
* NoodlePeople: While it's not exaggerated, their torso, head and limbs are thin. A special mention goes to their legs: they have pointed blades as their legs.
* SuperSpeed: They're the fastest land-based Shadowkhan type. One manages to catch up to a speeding train.
* WallCrawl: They can do this thanks to the blades their limbs consist of.

Flying Shadowkhan. They are summoned by Scruffy the dog, who somehow got an Oni Mask on his face.
----
* AirborneMook: They are the only Shadowkhan type which can fly.
* AnimalisticAbomination: They look kinda bat-like.
* BatOutOfHell: They have bat-like wings and their body resembles that of a bat.
* EnergyBall: They can create these from shadow energy.
* LeotardOfPower: That's the closest thing their outfits could be called.

Large and strong Shadowkhan. They are summoned by Captain Black with an Oni Mask.
----
* GiantMook: The largest type of Shadowkhan, after a fully grown Leech Khan.
* HumanoidAbomination: They don't look much different from Tohru (though their necks are more crouched).
* MightyGlacier: As stated above, they're strong and resilient, but they move slowly, and only by traveling through shadows they can move quickly.
* PromotionToOpeningTitles: In the 4th season opening, one serves as the character who's punched by Jackie.
%%* SleevesAreForWimps
* SuperStrength: [[FingerPokeOfDoom Just a flip is enough to send Hak Foo flying through a wall]]. The Ox Talisman is needed to match them.
* SuperToughness: They're so tough that the Talismans are required to destroy them.

Ikazuki's henchmen, who are ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin. They are summoned by the reanimated Ikazuki Mask, while he was placed on Finn's butt.
----
* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Their shadow katanas cut through steel.
* ArmorIsUseless: See the FakeUltimateMook below.
* CoolHelmet: That too comes from being a samurai.
* FakeUltimateMook: They're big, heavily armored samurai that wield shadow swords able to cut through anything, yet in the end they're just as easily defeated as the Ninja Khan (or even easier). It's possible that due to Ikazuki having not being properly bonded to his host, his powers are significantly diminished.
* GlassCannon: Their extremely sharp shadow katanas give them an edge in offence, but it turns out that despite their armor, even so little as tripping them suffices to dissipate them.
* HeavilyArmoredMook: They wear a full suit of samurai armor.
* HumanoidAbomination: Besides being quite tall and having red eyes and blue hands, they're quite human-looking.
* {{Samurai}}: It's in their name after all.
* SamuraiShinobi: Though they wear samurai armor and wield katanas, they're capable of traveling through shadows and using smoke bombs to disappear like the Ninja Khan. Notably, all the nine Shadowkhan tribes are universally referred to as ninjas.

[[quoteright:320:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a92b6bf533bdc3bcfc03eaf8f99bece0.jpg]]
Slimy tentacled monsters who can "stretch like taffy". They are summoned by Paco with an Oni Mask.
----
* CombatTentacles: Naturally, being squid monsters and all.
* EldritchAbomination: The Squid Khan are the only kind of Shadowkhan whose face we see, which turn out to be that of a hideous demonic-looking Cthulian monster.
* ExtraEyes: They have seven little round eyes.
* TentacleRope: Their squid tentacles can be used for restraint.
* TentacledTerror: They are particularly creepy ones to boot.
* TooManyMouths: They seem to have another mouth ''on top of their head''!
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Crab Khan]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ef18101780a3300d520737562c7dfe17.png]]
They have large crab-like pincers in their right arms, and large scorpion-like stabbing claws in their left arms. They were temporarily split in half, because their Oni Mask was also split in half. They're summoned by Valmont and Jade with the two halves of the mask.
----
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Valmont and Jade each end up wearing half of the Oni Mask, so when they summon their Crab Khan, they each end up getting the left and right halves of each mook. Valmont's Shadowkhan retain the heads, while Jade's don't.
* HandicappedBadass: Even when cut in half, they're able to pose a legitimate threat, making Jackie worried about what they're capable of as whole beings.
-->'''Jade''': Maybe they'll only be half as dangerous?\
'''Valmont's Oni Mask half''': On the contrary, half is more than enough to destroy you ''completely''.
* HybridMonster: Like stated above, one of their arm has a crab-like pincers, and the other has a scorpion-like stabbing claw.
* InASingleBound: Much like the Ninja Khan, they're capable of leaping very high.
* LightningBruiser: Even when cut in half, they're just as fast and agile as the Ninja Khan despite being larger and (judging by the loudness of their steps) heavier, and the punches of their stabbing claws can crack concrete.
%%* MonstrousHumanoid
* PowerPincers: What else would they need those crab claws for?
* WhoNeedsTheirWholeBody: Played with. The left half-Shadowkhan (the ones who retained the heads) are able to give a tough fight. The headless right half-Shadowkhan are somewhat less effective, but not completely so.

They start out very small and pathetic, but they grow larger every time they eat a human's shadow (which incapacitates the victim). They are summoned by Hak Foo with an Oni Mask.
----
* AdorableEvilMinions: Really tiny Shadowkhan who look like plushies.
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: The largest we see grows taller than most of the buildings of San Francisco.
* CastsNoShadow: When they have eaten a person's shadow, the victim literally casts no shadow, as seen with Tohru and Chow.
* EldritchAbomination: Along with the Squid Khan, they look very monstrous and unearthly when compared to the other Shadowkhan.
* EyelessFace: They're the only Shadowkhan type that doesn't seem to have eyes.
* FourLeggedInsect: When they grow in size, they are revealed to have four legs. Try to imagine a leech with four legs at its lower body, and you have it.
* GiantMook: Eventually, they can grow really huge.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: They're not ninja warriors like the others, so they can't beat up enemies in a straightforward manner. However, they grow stronger with every shadow they consume.
* KillerRabbit: Because of how small they are, the Leech Khan are mistaken for harmless at first.
* MagikarpPower: The Leech Khan start off too weak to fight at all. If they manage to feed enough though, they can become the size of buildings.
* MiniMook: The Leech Khan start out very tiny.
* MiracleGroMonster: They grow by eating shadows of living creatures.
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: They have a jaw full of razor sharp teeth in place of eyes.
* WallCrawl: At least the smaller ones can do this.

Four-legged creatures with blade-like arms. Nobody gets to wear their Oni Mask, but they appear briefly after their Oni General is freed.
----
* AnimalisticAbomination: They resemble mantises after all.
* FourLeggedInsect: Averted in that real life mantises do have four legs in addition to their infamous two forelegs.
* OurCentaursAreDifferent: You might describe them as "mantis centaurs".
* SlayingMantis: Their blades resemble those a mantis would have.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Of all the Shadowkhan, they get the least amount of screen time, because [[spoiler:no one gets a chance to wear their general's mask before it's destroyed]].
