->'''Voiced by:''' Chris Wedge

A saber-toothed squirrel who shows up in the beginning before the opening credits, right after the end before the closing credits, a couple of scenes in between, and headlining follow-up short-subject films. [[WolverinePublicity Oh, and every single ad for every movie.]]

This fellow is simply nuts about acorns. Finding an acorn is easy, but keeping an acorn? That's where things get tricky.
-----
* AccidentalHero: He saves the herd and everyone else by complete accident in ''The Meltdown'' after he inadvertently breaks one of the giant ice walls open with his acorn, completely draining the titular flood.
* AdvertisedExtra: While his role has increased in the sequels, Scrat still is only used for comic relief. Comic relief that is largely unrelated to the central plot. Anytime the main cast interacts with him, he's treated as vermin.
%% * AscendedExtra: In the first three sequels.
%% * BadassAdorable: As a few piranhas and a Siren would attest if they could.
* BeenThereShapedHistory: When he ''does'' impact the plot, he impacts it big time. As in causing tectonic plates to shift big time. In ''Collision Course'', not only does he somehow manage to split Pangaea on two separate occasions, his antics in space creates the solar system as we know it.
* BerserkButton: Don't become between him and his [[CompanionCube acorn]]. Sid and a ''school of freakin' piranhas'' found out the hard way in ''WesternAnimation/IceAge2TheMeltdown''.
* BreakoutCharacter: Ever since Scrat was positively reviewed by many in the first film, they increased his screen time the rest of the film series, and for the home video releases, Scrat was given his own spinoff short films. He even appears in more advertisements for the film than any other character and he is the most popular of all the cast. From 2013 to the studio's shutdown, Scrat served as the mascot for Creator/BlueSkyStudios.
* ButtMonkey: The award goes to Scrat. Nothing ever goes the poor guy's way. He exists only for the purpose of being a butt-monkey -- er, squirrel. Thing.
* CartoonCreature: Yes, Scrat is a sabertooth squirrel, but there is only one problem. Sabertooth Squirrels never existed in RealLife and God knows he does not look like a modern day squirrel, he has the tail of a raccoon and snout of a dog. Although, since the release of ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs'', a prehistoric animal was discovered which held remarkable likeness to Scrat, the scientific name being ''Cronopio dentiacutus''. More info about it can be found [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cronopio_%28mammal%29 here.]]
* CassandraTruth: In the first film, Scrat tries to warn Manny and Sid about the pack of saber-toothed tigers only for Diego to fling him away.
* CharacterDevelopment:
** In "Scrat Tales", he starts to care and even raise Baby Scrat, albeit a convoluted one since he still cares about getting his acorn to the point of fighting with the kid many times.
** Although not official, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uuua5lVrdP0 this last animation made by Blue Sky animators shows Scrat FINALLY eating his acorn, instead of burying it as always]].
* TheChewToy: All he wants is to have his acorn in peace. [[YankTheDogsChain The world will never let him have it]].
* CompanionCube: PlayedForLaughs. As the sequels have gone on, his acorn has been played less as something he wants to eat and more as his LoveInterest -- even getting a montage set to a rewritten version of "Alone Again, Naturally" when he temporarily abandons it for Scratte.
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: To say that he was mad at Sid for reviving him at the end of ''Meltdown'', right as he was about to reach the largest acorn in acorn heaven is an understatement, he outright attacks the sloth all the way past the IrisOut when he realises what he did.
* CosmicPlaything: ''Everything'' is out to prevent him from burying his beloved acorn, and is merciless in execution.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Sometimes. He defeats a school of piranhas on his own.
* CurbStompBattle: [[ButtMonkey Scrat]] vs. A ''gigantic'' school of [[PiranhaProblem piranhas]]... [[TheDogBitesBack Scrat wins]].
* DecoyProtagonist: Mainly due to TrailersAlwaysLie.
* DemotedToExtra: In ''WesternAnimation/IceAgeCollisionCourse''. He spends most of the film's time in space. [[OutOfFocus He has a bit of screen time in this movie]] and returns to Earth after the film's events.
* {{Determinator}}: No matter how bad things get for him, Scrat will ''never'' stop trying to get his acorn.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: In ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs''. He ''could'' have settled into a loving relationship with Scratte, but he ultimately chose his acorn over her in the end.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: His very simple and single-minded obsession with getting the acorn often leads him into deadly peril and with no means of escaping after getting it.
* TheDogBitesBack: In the second film, Scrat goes ''completely sideways'' and attacks Sid for reviving him, after being in the Pearly Gates and being offered the biggest acorn in the universe (as the Adagio from ''Spartacus'' played.)
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: He's never getting his hands on that acorn. [[spoiler:At least not until the end of ''Scrat Tales''.]]
* HenpeckedHusband: After he briefly moves in with Scratte, all we see of their relationship is her forcing him to rearrange heavy furniture. When he leaves her for the acorn, she stares him down and scares him. He does get the upper hand over her, however... for a while.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: He's the protagonist of at least one of the video games.
* IronButtMonkey: All the abuse he takes would kill the other characters, but he inflates, stretches, and is squished just as much as any WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes character.
* MeaningfulName: His name, Scrat, sounds like a mix of the words "Squirrel" and "Rat", fitting for an animal who resembles a mix of both species.
* MikeNelsonDestroyerOfWorlds: In ''Collision Course'' he nearly brings about TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt. [[spoiler:After our heroes save the day, Scrat accidentally destroys all life on Mars instead.]]
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: In the fourth and fifth films, he accidentally triggers the cataclysms that threaten the heroes.
* OutOfFocus: In the fifth film. He has a small subplot in this film about his adventures in Space.
* PapaWolf: He starts to care about Baby Scrat more than his acorn.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: He causes several natural disasters just by attempting to bury his acorn, from collapsing glaciers to volcanic eruptions. In the fourth and fifth movies, the relentless and endless pursuit of his acorn manages to cause ''extinction-level events''.
* RecurringExtra: Perhaps the most famous and iconic example of this trope, as he is pure comedy material.
* ScrewballSquirrel: Scrat and his attachment to his acorn greatly invoke this trope.
* SeriesMascot: He's the face of the ''Ice Age'' franchise, appearing in most promotional material. He was even the mascot for its animation studio for a time.
* TheSpeechless: Can only make grunting and screaming noises. Cannot speak like other characters. This is ''briefly'' subverted in the opening of ''Collision Course'': when he is booted off the UFO he was controlling and is being flung around on a cable, he can be heard saying "oh, no" at one point.
* TimeAbyss: He never seems to age, no matter how much time has passed. He existed before the series of films started, splitting up Pangaea, and the epilogue of the first movie revealed that he survived ''thousands of years'' after the events (albeit due to being [[HumanPopsicle frozen in a block of ice]]).
* ThrowTheDogABone: [[spoiler:Scrat finally gets to eat his acorn at the end of ''Scrat Tales''.]]
* VocalEvolution: Scrat's grunts and screams sound slightly higher-pitched and much more scratchy from ''The Meltdown'' onwards.
* WolverinePublicity: Appears in everything representing ''Ice Age''. Many movie trailers feature nothing ''but'' Scrat scenes, even though his scenes are usually detached from the main plot.
* YankTheDogsChain: The acorn heaven in the second movie. Also, Scratlantis would count. If only he could repress that desire for the acorn...

!The 'Herd'

A group of unlikely prehistoric animals who wind up becoming a tight-knit community.
----
[[folder:General]]
* BadassCrew: They are very close companions (to the point of considering each other family) and are each tough and strong in their own ways. ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs'' and ''Continental Drift'' see them actually take up arms against hostile predators and animals and they fight well alongside each other.
* FamilyOfChoice: Most of them are different species but are part of the Herd regardless.
* FireForgedFriends: Many of the relationships of the Herd begin because they were forced to work together for a common goal. And in the end, the bond solidified.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Four mammoths, three ground sloths, two sabretooth cats, two possums, and a molehog. As Sid himself put it:
-->'''Sid:''' We are the weirdest herd I have ''ever'' seen.
* UndyingLoyalty: Bickering or not, they got each other's back.

!!Introduced in ''Ice Age''

[[folder:Manfred "Manny"]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/manny_1.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RayRomano (first five films), Sean Kenin Elias-Reyes (''The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild'') [[labelnote:Foreign [=VAs=]]]'''Latin-American Spanish:''' Jesús Ochoa, Creator/EnriqueCervantes (''A Mammoth Christmas''), Leonardo García (''The Great Egg-scapade'')[[/labelnote]]

A mammoth whose full name is Manfred; Manny is introduced in the first film as anti-social and uncaring to those around him but [[CharacterDevelopment he gets better]] and eventually becomes quite friendly and kind if not a total killjoy.
-----
* ActionDad: Both an actual dad and a TeamDad. Either way, he doesn't shy away from getting into a fight if it means defending himself and/or his family.
* AesopAmnesia: He never does get over his fear of something happening to Ellie and Peaches, but considering that he watched his first family die while he was unable to protect them (and that dangerous things refuse to stop happening), this is entirely justified. However, he's had to learn to respect the fact that Peaches isn't a baby anymore several times.
* AffectionateNickname: He's called "Bro-Dad" by Julian.
* AmazonChaser: Manny, himself, refers to Ellie as "stubborn and hard-headed" and loves her for it.
* AnimalSpeciesAccent: Ray Romano's low, nasally voice goes hand-in-hand with Manny's long trunk.
* BabiesEverAfter: He and Ellie have a daughter, Peaches, by the end of the third movie.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Ellie in the second film.
* BerserkButton:
** Being betrayed. After he finds out about Diego's ambush, he becomes the most furious we've ever seen him. He even comes damn near close to killing Diego right then and there.
--->'''Diego:''' I'm sorry--\
'''Manny:''' ''[pins him to the wall with his tusks]'' No you're not! ''Not yet.''
** Creatures who kill for pleasure, likely due to his experiences with humans. This makes him something of a BullyHunter - though rather than being something he goes out of his way to do, it's rather that it's one of the few things that can take him out of his apathy and shows that he really does care.
** He also hates being called fat. He claims that he is simply poofy.
* BigGood: Throughout the entire series, he’s one to his herd and family. The wider community of mammals usually seems to look to him as a figure of authority, gathering together to celebrate his family's events or following Ellie's lead in his absence.
* TheBigGuy: Manny is a combination of Classes 1 and 2. He's a GentleGiant, but you do NOT want to piss him off because he will attempt to kill you. Case in point the first film where he uses his size, strength, and reach to deal with multiple adversaries (tossing Carl and Frank, keeping the melon away from the dodos, sending Oscar, Zeke, and Lenny flying with a single sweep of a log).
* BigThinShortTrio: The big to Diego's thin and Sid's short.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: The brunet to Sid's blond and Diego's redhead.
* BrokenBird: [[spoiler:His first wife and first kid being killed by hunters was what got him to always defy friendship.]]
* CharacterCatchphrase: Manny has two, that relate both to his weight.
** "I'm NOT Fat!"
** "I'm ''Poofy''".
* CharacterDevelopment: In the first movie, Manny was a grouchy, antisocial mammoth without a firm belief in staying loyal to others, and was easily annoyed, mostly at Sid's idiosyncrasies. But as the film went by, he revealed himself to be a good person who had just lost his way after the loss of his family. And his new friends, Sid and Diego, helped him develop into a more social and nice guy.
* ChubbyChaser: He tells Ellie that one of the things he finds attractive about her is that she has the "hugest butt he's ever seen."
* CrusadingWidower: [[spoiler:It's revealed in the first film that his wife and son were killed by humans.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Brown pelt and brown eyes.
* CynicismCatalyst: His wife and child were killed by humans, which is why he is so grumpy now.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Manny lost his first wife and child by hunters.
* DeadpanSnarker: Though not as pronounced as Diego.
* DefrostingIceKing: His apparent cold exterior at the beginning of the original ''WesternAnimation/IceAge1'' is because he's suffered the recent loss of his family. Fortunately, Roshan, Sid, and Diego fall into his path and give him something more to live for, and his friendships with them gradually reveal the deep warmth of Manny's heart.
* {{Determinator}}: Once he sets his mind do something, he is either far too headstrong or far too stubborn (or both) to give up on it.
* DopeSlap: Is prone to giving these to Sid when he does something that annoys him.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[ImpliedTrope Never outright stated but it's certainly implied at the begining of the first movie]], where Manny (who has only recently lost his family) is despondently and callously heading north, unlike the other animals, who are heading south to escape the freezing winter, and when Sid first bumps into him (literally), [[InterruptedSuicide Manny is standing at the edge of a cliff]].
* EarnYourHappyEnding: By the end of the main series, Manny has successfully moved on from the loss of his wife and child, found love again with Ellie, and together they watched as their daughter was able to grow up and start her own life.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Even at his lowest point during the first film, Manny makes it very clear to Carl and Frank that he doesn't like animals that kill for pleasure.
** As much as a jerk he could be in the first film, he noticeably always intervenes when it looks like Sid, Diego, and ''especially'' Roshan are in life-threatening danger, even if just moments before or afterwards he's grumbling about how much of a pain they're being.
** From the fourth film, Sid often gets on Manny's nerves a lot, but his biological family unhesitatingly abandoning the poor sloth behind his back with his grandmother left behind as well was something that shocked him, and he genuinely felt bad for Sid when breaking the news to him.
* GentleGiant: As grumpy as he can be, he's harmless and even socially awkward unless you [[PapaWolf mess with his herd.]]
* GleefulAndGrumpyPairing: The happy-go-lucky and outgoing sloth, Sid, formed a one-sided friendship with the grumpy wooly mammoth, Manny. By the end of the movie, though, their friendship becomes genuine, [[VitriolicBestBuds albeit, a bit volatile]].
* HappilyMarried:
** With Ellie. They bicker at times but their love and devotion to each other remain steadfast.
** [[spoiler:Was also this to his former mate before she and their child were killed by humans. A brief shot of them together showed that they deeply loved one another.]]
* HeartbrokenBadass: In the first film, he's mourning his family. He's still the biggest and toughest of the characters.
* HeldGaze: With Diego, twice - once in the original film and then again in ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs.'' Bonus points for happening in highly tense moments for both of them.
* HelicopterParents: [[TroubledButCute Justified, given his past]]. Losing his first wife and child has him ''terrified'' over the prospect of losing Ellie and Peaches.
* TheHero: He is the protagonist of the movies, and TheLeader of the Herd.
* HeroicSacrifice: When he takes Diego's place on the ice bridge, knowing that he may die by taking his place.
* HonorableElephant: To be more specific, a mammoth, which is an extinct genus of elephant. Manny is heroic, usually the StraightMan, and an all-around badass.
* IAmBigBoned: Apparently he's not fat... his fur just makes him look 'poofy'.
* IneffectualLoner: Originally this in the first movie.
* InSeriesNickname: His full name is "Manfred".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: At least after CharacterDevelopment set in. Before that he was bordering on JerkAss, if only because his grief-depression and borderline suicidal behavior is making him antisocial. By later films, Manny has mellowed out significantly and cares dearly about his herd. Even Sid.
* TheKirk: As TheLeader, Manny fits this archetype well, and is often the mediator between [[TheMcCoy Sid]] and [[TheSpock Diego]] during their disputes when they get on each other's nerves.
* LastOfHisKind: He's led to believe so early on in ''The Meltdown'', but is later subverted after meeting Ellie and realizing there are dozens of more mammoths like him at the end of the film.
* TheLeader: Type Mastermind and Levelheaded. For the former, he's usually the one coming up with the plans and for the latter, he's usually the OnlySaneMan.
* MeaningfulName: Manfred is German for "Man of Peace" and throughout the first movie - and into the sequels - he stands out as someone who is against injustice and corruption who tries to keep the peace.
* MovingBeyondBereavement: Manny starts the first film as a cynical loner after the death of his wife and child, but after bonding with Diego, Sid and Roshan he's able to grow out of his shell and move on from his former loneliness. ''Ice Age 2: The Meltdown'' continues his arc, having him doubtful of seeking a new romantic partner, Ellie, due to still not having moved on from his previous family. In the end, he's able to finally move on and is able to start a new family with Ellie and the rest of the Herd.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: He lost his first family to hunters prior to the events of ''WesternAnimation/IceAge1'' and is constantly fearful of Ellie and especially Peaches meeting the same fate. This becomes a mild source of tension when Peaches becomes a teen and later, an adult.
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: The mean to Sid's nice and Diego's in-between. Manny is definitely a grumpy and snarky person ([[CharacterDevelopment though he mellowed out significantly in later films]]), but the bond he develops with Sid and Diego makes it clear that he has a heart.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While Manny has been known to get annoyed by Sid's antics and tomfoolery, when Sid teased Diego for his BelligerentSexualTension with Shira, he happily joined.
-->'''Sid and Manny:''' [singing] ''Diego and Shira, sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!''\
'''Diego''' Real mature, guys... Real mature...
* ObliviousToLove: He doesn't appear to be aware that he's falling for Ellie in the second movie until Sid points it out. {{Subverted}} in that he's perfectly aware of his own attraction to her... he's still coping with the loss of his family is all.
%%* OfficialCouple: With Ellie.
* OnlySaneMan: Most of the time, he can be seen rolling his eyes or getting angry at pretty much everyone.
* PaleFemalesDarkMales: Manny's fur is darker in comparison to Ellie's.
* PapaWolf: DO '''NOT''' under any circumstance mess with this mammoth's herd or family.
** One of the best examples in the cycle is the event when Manny and Diego are defending from guanlongs Ellie giving birth to her daughter.
** If you attempt to kill Manny's wife and daughter, as Gutt found out -- Manny will bat you far far far away into the distance so you'll ''never'' harm his family or anyone else ever again.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The savvy guy (OnlySaneMan) to Ellie's energetic girl (FieryRedhead) in the second movie.
* ShipperOnDeck: He (with Sid) tease Diego about his growing attraction towards Shira in ''WesternAnimation/IceAgeContinentalDrift''.
* SourOutsideSadInside: Manny is aloof, standoffish and depressed for most of the first movie, [[spoiler:because he's still grieving the recent deaths of his family]], but his heart eventually starts to unthaw from his friendship with Sid and Diego, and his feelings of paternal care for Roshan.
* StraightMan: Manny's often the most serious and rational character in the movies and lot of his humor comes from him being annoyed by Sid's antics.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: He's usually the serious one opposed to Sid's goofy personality.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Especially in the first movie -- he was cold, rude, and aloof but showed his kinder side in moments of vulnerability. After CharacterDevelopment, he's still serious, but shows more of his softer side.
* TeamDad: He's the 'Daddy', Ellie's the 'Mommy', Diego's the 'Uncle', and Crash, Eddie, and Sid are the 'Children'.
* TookALevelInBadass: Manny has always been a badass considering his size and strength, but he took Badass skills up a notch when fighting the evil Captain Gutt.
-->'''Manny:''' You know, sometimes, it pays to weigh 11 TONS!\
''[leaps on the edge of the ice, launching Gutt into the air]'' Bon voyage, Monkey boy! ''[strikes Gutt with a log, sending him flying far away into the distance]''
* TookALevelInKindness: Manfred had been surly and asocial after losing his mate and his child. However, after restoring the human infant Roshan to his father, Manfred discards his isolationism and happily forms his own herd with Diego and Sid. This continues further on in the sequels, as Manny proceeds to start over as the herd gets bigger and bigger.
* TragicHero: Noted in the first film. One of the reasons the audience can sympathize with Manny despite him being a total jackass to everyone is [[spoiler:because of his [[TroubledBackstoryFlashback horrible backstory.]] One day, human hunters attacked his family and killed both his wife and son. Although Manny escaped the hunters, he laced himself with so much guilt over his inability to save his family that he became a cynical, depressed loner with no friends or anyone to talk to]].
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Manny's favorite fruit are peaches, which led to his daughter's name.
* TroubledButCute: His TroubledBackstoryFlashback in the Original movie reveals him to be this - poor Manny.
* UndyingLoyalty: Manny is a firm believer in staying loyal. He tells Sid to be loyal, or in his case grateful, to his mate. Manny also wanted to stay loyal to his late wife in the second film.
* UptightLovesWild: The grumpy, [[DeadpanSnarker sarcastic,]] and [[OnlySaneMan sane]] Manny fell in love with the [[GenkiGirl energetic,]] [[CloudCuckooLander strange,]] and [[FieryRedhead stubborn]] Ellie. This is lampshaded by Sid:
-->'''Manny:''' So, you think she's the girl for me?\
'''Sid:''' Oh, yeah, she's tons of fun, and you're no fun at all. She "completes" you.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Sid. Manny may be vocal about how Sid is annoying, but also won't hesitate to save the sloth when it counts.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: Sid states that Manny has beautiful eyes.
* TheWorfEffect: An implied and barely averted example in the first film. Manny is established as formidable since the beginning of the film when he easily tosses aside two rhinos. However, the Sabretooths give him considerably more trouble, in part thanks to the foreshadowed strategy of blocking his escape route, and it's implied that Soto would've killed Manny were it not for Diego intervening at the last second.
* YouAreGrounded: He pulls off a humorous BaitAndSwitch version of this trope in ''Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas'', in which he seemingly grounds Peaches for [[ItMakesSenseInContext running off to the North Pole]]... then clarifies he was talking to ''Sid!''
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sidney "Sid"]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sid_iceage.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JohnLeguizamo (first five films), Creator/JakeGreen (''The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild'') [[labelnote:Foreign [=VAs=]]]'''Latin-American Spanish:''' Carlos Espejel[[/labelnote]]

A sloth who is the 'Gooey Stuff' that keeps the herd together. He is portrayed as clumsy, fast-talking, and unpopular; and is voiced with a lateral lisp. Also self-dubs himself 'Lord of the Flame' after he learns to create fire in the first film.
-----
* ActionSurvivor: Sid is a pretty physically average ground sloth who has no fighting skills and is frequently characterized as being trepidatious and timid. Despite that, ever since he first crossed paths with Manny and Diego, he's found himself having to survive all sorts of insane, dangerous situations he never thought he would find himself in - like outwitting a pack of hungry sabertooth cats, being hunted by sea monsters during the time of a great flood, being dragged off into a land of dinosaurs, and embarking on a dangerous odyssey across the seven seas with his friends while they're being hunted by pirates.
* AccidentalAthlete: In the original movie, several times. Sid makes a touchdown during a game of football against dodos, ice-skates better than his other traveling companions, and is successfully able to create the first skiing and snowboarding events in history!
* AesopAmnesia: In every film so far, [[CharacterDevelopment Sid learns that the others]] [[TrueCompanions do care about him and respect him]], but seems to immediately forget this by the next one, so he can learn it again.
* BigThinShortTrio: The short to Manny's big and Diego's thin.
* BlackSheep: He's considered a nuisance by his own family, [[ParentalAbandonment and they abandoned him because of it.]] The fourth film reveals that while Sid is a screw-up and the pariah of his clan, he's ironically a better person than all of them, since Sid is capable of loyalty and caring about people other than himself.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: The blond to Manny's brunet and Diego's redhead.
* ButtMonkey: Not even his ''family'' wanted him. The majority of Sid's problems are self-imposed, either through not being properly careful, or through having delusions of grandeur.
* CasanovaWannabe: Especially in the first film, where he's a shameless flirt and (in a deleted scene) a groping, piggish horndog. He loses the worst of these traits as the films progress, but he never does learn to stop overestimating his attractiveness or his skills with women.
* CharacterDevelopment: A fairly subtle example. Sid starts out a total coward who only tags along behind Manny as protection from bigger animals, despite the mammoth's complaints. While Sid is still easily the most fearful member of the herd, by the end of the first film he's grown increasingly willing to put his own life at risk to help his friends, and throughout the following sequels he's faced near-certain death with them multiple times.
* TheChewToy: If you don't count Scrat, Sid's the victim of most physical comedy of the cast.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: More pronounced in the first film than the sequels. While Sid is easily the wackiest and most spontaneous animal of the core three compared to Manny or Diego - often thinking outside the box and doing his own thing, no matter how weird it may seem - he's gradually overtaken by Ellie and her brothers, Crash and Eddie, by the second film.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: All the time.
-->'''Sid:''' I was kidnapped by a tribe of mini sloths! And they ''worshipped'' me! I mean, sure, they tossed me into a flaming tar pit, but they ''worshipped'' me!
%%* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He became this in the first film in the Dodo scene.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His biological family constantly abandoned him throughout his life.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Whereas Scrat headlined all the other short-subjects, Sid got ''Surviving Sid'' all to himself... albeit still with a Scrat cameo.
* DeadpanSnarker: ''Very'' snarky towards Diego in the first film.
* DistressedDude: Since he is not of a particularly impressive build like Manny nor a formidable predator as Diego and much too brash, incompetent and impulsive for his own good, Sid needs saving a lot of the time.
%%* TheDitz: Though he sometimes falls under GeniusDitz.
* DumbassHasAPoint:
** In the second film, he calls Diego out on his fear of water, then points out that with the ice melting and a flood approaching, he'll inevitably have to admit his fear and face up to it.
** To Manny in the second film:
-->"You need to let go of the past so that you can have a future."
* ExtremeDoormat: Subverted actually. Sid's weak-willed and cowardly nature has its limits, and if you push him far enough, he will push back, regardless of whether or not the person he's talking to can easily end him. For instance, his exchanges with Diego in the original film grow progressively sassy and rebellious.
-->'''Manny:''' Sid, the tiger found a shortcut.\
''Sid looks out at the deadly cave shortcut in front of them.'' \
'''Sid:''' No thanks, I choose life.\
'''Diego:''' (''menacingly'') Then I suggest you pick the shortcut.\
'''Sid:''' (''feigning ignorance'') Are you threatening me?\
'''Diego:''' MOVE SLOTH!\
''A cave-in is triggered, causing the cavern to fall in towards them.'' \
'''Sid:''' (''sarcastically'') Way to go, tiger.
* FatalFlaw:
** Thanks to his rather abusive upbringing - where his parents and the rest of his family would repeatedly abandon him so he wouldn't be a hindrance to them - Sid has some major abandonment issues, which he becomes increasingly aware of throughout the movies. The Herd gave Sid a place where he belonged for the first time in his life, and in the third film, he comes to the stinging, sobering realization that he's more reliant on his friends for company than they're reliant on him: he spends a good chunk of that movie wondering what he's going to do with his life, when they're all seemingly moving on with theirs.
** Sid can also be very needy for validation due to his low self-esteem, which stems from a similar place of origin as his abandonment issues. In the second film, Sid grows resentful of the fact that Manny and Diego apparently don't respect him, and he spends much of that movie trying to prove himself and gain approval from someone or something.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Played with. If there's one thing everyone can agree on, it's that Sid is a lazy and carefree loser. What's sad is Sid ''knows'' this, and is often trying and failing to earn himself more respect from the others. This is actually subverted quite a lot with Manny and Diego as it is shown they in fact do truly care for him, they know that he's the one who keeps their little family together, and legitimately feel bad when they hurt his feelings.
* FreudianExcuse: He was abandoned and left behind by his parents more than once. After meeting Sid's DysfunctionalFamily, even Diego comments "That explains a lot about Sid".
* GeniusDitz: Sometimes, most commonly in ''Ice Age'' and ''Ice Age: The Meltdown'' where his abilities show him to be not as stupid as he looks - at times, anyway.
* GleefulAndGrumpyPairing: The happy go lucky and outgoing sloth, Sid, formed a one-sided friendship with the grumpy wooly mammoth, Manny. By the end of the movie, though, their friendship becomes genuine, [[VitriolicBestBuds albeit, a bit volatile]].
* {{Gonk}}: Sid isn't much of a looker: one of his eyes is bigger than the other, he has misaligned buck teeth and a pot-belly and is [[ThePigPen constantly flithy]].
* GoofyBuckteeth: He is a dimwitted, accident-prone comedy relief with buckteeth.
* GracefulInTheirElement: He's clumsy and stumbling on land, but a lot more graceful on ice.
* TheHeart: While he's often jokingly singled out as TheFriendNobodyLikes, Manny and Diego admit that Sid is the one who holds the Herd together, since, for all his faults, he has a strong compassionate streak and he cares about the well-being of all of them as a group. Notably, in the original film, Sid is the first one of the trio to warm to Roshan, and the first one to want to help the baby for Roshan's own sake.
* TheHero: According to the franchise's official wiki, he's the main protagonist of the third film.
* HonoraryUncle: For his friend Manny's daughter Peaches.
* InformedSpecies: Doesn't look very much like a ground sloth, but more like a modern day sloth, although not that much. To be fair, early concepts of Sid looked more like realistic ground sloths, but they looked kind of boring with not much personality. So they drew Sid as the sloth we know him today.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: The defining feature of his personality is that he always speaks his mind without any consideration for the others thoughts or feelings, which is caused by his lack of understanding more than anything.
* JerkassBall: Sid holds these moments sometimes, most notably in the third movie where he doesn't even give his friends one word of thanks for embarking on that perilous journey to save him, and instead complains about how hard watching his kids were -- ''for one day!''
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: As insensitive and annoying as he can be, he does still care about the herd, and in a way is the one that keeps them together.
* KindheartedSimpleton: As seen in JerkWithAHeartOfGold, he truly means well despite how unknowingly insensitive he can be most of the time.
* LargeHam: John Leguizamo's performance as the wacky and zany sloth often provides some a lot of the movies' over-the-top comedy.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Initially, before they become friends, Sid only tags along behind Manny on his journey (against his wishes) so he can use him as protection against bigger, meaner animals - something they're both well aware of. As a result, Sid winds up having to contend with Diego, a very untrustworthy predator who has it out for him, for most of the movie to ensure Roshan's safety.
-->'''Sid:''' Awww, the big bad tigey-wigey gets left behind. Poor Tigey-Wigey.\
'''Manny:''' Sid, Tigey-Wigey is gonna lead the way.\
'''Sid's expression slowly drops while Diego smirks wickedly.'''
* LongNeck: Part of his goofy design is made up by his long neck that widens upwards to his flattened head.
* LovableCoward: Sid is easily the most fearful member of the herd, prone to a lot of complaining, and he’s considered a screw-up by his family to the point where they repeatedly abandoned him to get rid of him. Ironically, Sid goes on to develop better moral character than all of his family throughout the franchise. Sid’s relatives have a habit of cutting off anyone who inconveniences them as deadweight (like Sid or Granny). By contrast, despite being a self-confessed coward, there’s never a moment in the movies where Sid abandons his friends to try to save his own skin when they need him - whether it means confronting a hungry pack of sabertooth cats to save Roshan, risking getting eaten by sea monsters to save Diego, racing down a cliff to save Mama Rex’s eggs, or fighting off pirates to help Manny.
* ManChild: Remember the time he got worried about what Santa Claus thinks?
* TheMcCoy: To Manny's TheKirk and Diego's TheSpock. Sid is easily the most emotional of the three and usually the first to remind his more stoic friends of their moral duties. Mainly in the first film, as it gets toned down in the sequels.
* TheMillstone: He has his moments of competence, but whenever the heroes' plans go wrong he's likely to be at fault. Especially notable in the third film, in which he spends most of the movie [[TheLoad needing to be rescued by the others]], and the one useful thing he does (help tie up Rudy) is undone moments later by himself.
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: Sid serves as the nice to Diego's in-between and Manny's mean. Sid, while definitely insensitive and has his moments of snarkiness and selfish behavior, is easily the most moral one of the trio and serves as TheHeart.
* TheNicknamer:
** This pops up in the Original film, where he shortens Manfred's name to "Manny" and the name sticks.
** His nickname for Roshan? "Pinkie!"
* NonActionGuy: Compared to Manny and Diego, Sid is easily the least physically capable member of the core three, and his fighting skills are non-existent. He's fully aware of his limitations as well. Whenever Sid is forced into a physical altercation with someone, he will either need to scramble for safety, be rescued by his friends, or outwit the animals who are currently trying to kill him.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: From the very minute he meets Manny, whom he compliments by saying "You have beautiful eyes" and his tendency to cling to people he likes (especially Diego, whose expressions indicate his dislike of this) show Sid as a ''very'' touchy-feely individual who doesn't seem to care about others' personal space.
* OfficialCouple: As of the fifth movie, he becomes mates with Brooke.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: If Sid isn't wisecracking or saying something with his foot in his mouth, the situation is serious. Best seen in ''The Meltdown'' when several times he gently consoles Manny on what to do, understanding the difficult situation he's in regarding his love for Ellie and his past trauma.
* PaleFemalesDarkMales: Sid's fur is more dingy and dirty-looking than Brooke's brighter and colorful one.
* PapaWolf: As clumsy and cowardly as Sid can be, one surefire thing that will bring out his protective instincts is his love for children. In the original film, Sid was the first of the trio to take a shine to baby Roshan and would face any kind of danger to keep him safe: even confronting a pack of hungry sabertooth cats for him. In ''Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs'', Sid grows just as fond of the baby T. Rex trio he adopted and shows his protective side towards them. He even stood up to their mother... ''an adult T. Rex''.
%%* PetTheDog: Has a few instances of this.
* PickUpBabesWithBabes: He tries this with Roshan in the Original film, using his relationship with the adorable little baby to impress a pair of sloth ladies, which actually seems to work until Manny steps in.
* ThePigPen: He's visibly dishevelled and dirty, and various moments show he has terrible hygiene.
** In the first movie, he smells so bad that Carl and Frank believe him to be ''dead'' upon smelling him while he's in Diego's mouth.
** In ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs'', a strand of his fur smells like, in Buck's words, "a buzzard's butt fell off and then got sprayed on by a bunch of skunks".
** In ''Collision Course'', his attempts at flirting show he has fleas in his fur and [[GrossUpCloseUp algae in his eyes]].
* PluckyComicRelief: He's the most comical of the main trio. Compared to his friends who have more emotional character arcs - like Diego's HeelFaceTurn causing him to adapt to a whole new lifestyle, or Manny trying to build a new life with Ellie as a widower - Sid's journeys throughout the films are often played more for laughs, though there is a bit of pathos wrung out of the abandonment issues his family gave him.
* PrinceCharmingWannabe: ''Literature/IceAgeChillsThrillsAndSpills'' paints him as this.
* TheQuisling: Parodied in ''The Meltdown'', he joins in dancing with the vultures during "Food, Glorious Food" and continues singing it in the next scene, despite it being about the vultures ''eating'' them. It's more a sign of his stupidity, eccentricities and childishness.
-->'''Everyone:''' SID!
-->'''Sid:''' What? It's ''catchy!''
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: He does it constantly (i.e. the second time he encountered Carl and Frank). Let's face it, John Leguizamo ''truly'' has a feminine sounding scream.
* ServileSnarker:
** Diego's on the top of the food chain, but it doesn't stop Sid from snarking at him.
** Sid has no problems sassing Momma Dino, a giant t-rex who could easily eat him in one bite (and almost does, several times). Though he at least has the sense to only do so when he knows her babies will protect him.
* ShipperOnDeck:
** Sid tried to convince Manny to become a couple with Ellie. Unfortunately, his attempts were horrendously insensitive.
** He (with Manny) tease Diego about his growing attraction towards Shira in ''WesternAnimation/IceAgeContinentalDrift''.
* SluggishSloths: Heavily downplayed. While Sid can be pretty lazy at times, he moves at a rather normal pace compared to other sloths in media. Likely justified, seeing as he's a ground sloth rather than a tree sloth.
* SmallTaxonomyPools: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zigzaged]], While Sid is part of the well know Ground sloth group, he dosen't seem to be based on Megatherium, but one of the smaller species. Although it's never classified which.
* SmarterThanYouLook: On his better days. He can even be tricky and resourceful to get his points across or teach a lesson. He's also very emotionally intelligent when he needs to be.
* SpeechImpediment: He speaks with a noticeable lisp. His voice actor claims that he gave him one based off the fact that real-life sloths store food in their mouths.
* StealthMentor: To Diego in the second film. He leads Diego to believe all animals can swim even as babies, neglecting to mention that tigers are some of the exceptions, all to inspire him to face his fear of water. It pays off when the flood comes and Diego overcomes his fear to rescue the others, and Sid sheepishly admits he lied.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: He's usually the goofy one opposed to the far more mature and serious Manny.
* SuddenlyFluentInGibberish: He's the one who manages to successfully communicate with the hyraxes in the fourth film.
* TooDumbToLive: Most of the time, especially in later movies.
** He has also a moment in the second movie when he wants to jump off a waterfall in order to get respect from others.
-->'''Manny:''' You jump off this, the only respect you're gonna get is respect for the dead.\
'''Diego:''' Come on, Manny. He's not that stupid. ''[Sid prepares to jump]'' But I've been wrong before.
** In the fourth movie, when Sid is about to eat a berry, Diego warns him not to eat it because it was a lotus berry that could paralyze him. Ignoring his warning, Sid eats the berry... and becomes paralyzed.
* TricksterMentor: In the second film he subtly motivates Diego to learn how to swim by telling him that many animals learn how to swim at a young age. The catch? [[spoiler:He left out the part about cats not being among said animals.]]
* TrueCompanions: With Diego and Manny. Despite the teasing and insults, the trio will never turn their backs on each other. Even after most of the herd moves away by the time of ''Buck Wild'', he still lives with Manny, Ellie, Diego, and Crash and Eddie. Manny even refers to him and Diego as his side of the family.
* UglyGuyHotWife: With Brooke, as of the fifth movie. He is a goofy-looking, scrawny and awkward sloth, she is a pretty sloth with long hair.
* TheUnfavourite: His own family left him behind in his sleep.
* UnusualEyebrows: He has long, thin and expressive eyebrows made up of some of the hair at the back of his head.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Manny and Diego. Despite their teasing, it's clear they truly care for him and feel bad when they hurt his feelings.
* WhiteSheep: To the rest of his family. Despite initially being set up as the useless BlackSheep who's so annoying even his family doesn't want him, Sid eventually shows himself to be far more loyal and moral than they ever were; while his family just abandons anyone who inconviences them like Sid or Granny, Sid goes out of his way to keep his [[FamilyOfChoice makeshift herd]] together no matter what danger he runs into.

A ''Smilodon'' who is the only carnivore of the group. Has a somewhat [[DeadpanSnarker sarcastic]] personality, although it's usually not intended as malicious. He was a bad guy in the first film but after bonding with [[TrueCompanions Manny and Sid]] he inevitably did a HeelFaceTurn.
----
* AllegianceAffirmation: During the climactic scene near Glacier Pass, Soto has Manny cornered. Soto orders Diego to flank their target, but Diego instead interposes himself in Manny's defense. Soto is stunned that Diego has sided with a RagtagBunchOfMisfits, but remains undeterred, being driven by a lust for vengeance. The confrontation results in Diego's HeroicSacrifice.
* AntiHero: He evolves into this via CharacterDevelopment and BecomingTheMask in his role in the original movie. In the subsequent films, he's the only carnivore in the herd and probably the second prickliest member after Manfred as the [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold brusque tough guy]] of the gang, but still a heroic figure nonetheless.
* AntiVillain: Diego is one from his very first appearance, where the expression in his eyes shows his qualms over Soto's order to kidnap the helpless baby for them to kill so that his leader can mete out his revenge on the humans.
* TheAtoner: Over the course of the first film as he starts BecomingTheMask which leads to a HeelFaceTurn which becomes a HeroicSacrifice, so that he can ''ensure'' that Manny, the baby, and Sid, do not suffer because of his previous selfishness.
* BabiesEverAfter: {{Discussed|Trope}}. In the fifth film, he and Shira discuss having children together and how good of parents they would be.
* BadLiar: This gem from ''Continental Drift'':
-->''(after Sid's family ditched him and Granny behind their backs)''\
'''Diego:''' I'll handle this. Sid? Uh... [[RocksFallEveryoneDies Your family was wiped out by an asteroid]]. Sorry.
* BecomingTheMask: In the first film, Diego gradually begins to respect Manny, especially after he saves his life, and grows to love the baby, Roshan, which leads him to have compunctions about the plan he has set up for them, ultimately furthering his HeelFaceTurn.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Shira in the fourth film, as they trade sarcastic quips with one another while also developing a mutual attraction.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's much friendlier after his HeelFaceTurn, but do not hurt Sid, Manny or the baby. When he tells you to leave them alone, you ''better'' leave them alone... Unless you want his claws in your face.
* BigThinShortTrio: The thin to Manny's big and Sid's short.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: The redhead to Sid's blond and Manny's brunet.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Initially an icy loner and a remorseless killer, Diego becomes this trope after he thaws out through ThePowerOfFriendship; it's even {{Lampshaded|Trope}} a few times when his friends tease him about it. Post HeelFaceTurn, Diego is still a tough guy, but he has a major soft spot for kids, he has a strong OddFriendship with Sid that ensures he will always come to the sloth's aid when he needs him, and in general, he's fiercely loyal and protective when it comes to his friends / herd.
* TheBully: To Sid, initially. When Diego was still an antagonistic character in the original film, he took an instant (and mutual) dislike to Sid for his flippant, lippy attitude. Invoking the usual hierarchy between predator and prey, Diego would frequently try to threaten, intimidate and browbeat Sid into submission by promising to eat him - though how much success he had in scaring the sloth and pushing him around would vary from scene to scene.
* BullyTurnedBuddy: Towards the end of the first film, Diego and Sid start to warm up to each other and become genuine friends, as signified by Diego pretending to threaten Sid and then roping him in for a playful noogie, as well as Sid being immensely relieved to see that Diego survived Soto’s attempt on his life. In the second film, there are still moments where Diego tries to threaten Sid into keeping quiet about his secrets, but they’ve clearly grown closer, and Sid has grown comfortable enough around the saber to pull him into a happy bear hug at the end. By the third, fourth and fifth films, any tension that used to exist between the two friends has disappeared entirely, save for some lighthearted teasing.
* ButtMonkey:
** In the first film, he wasn't, nor was he in the Christmas special or third film. But the second film constantly made him get freaked out by water.
** In the fourth film, he constantly gets made fun of by Shira, has his species constantly questioned, accidentally gets stuck in a log ride, kisses Sid by accident, and is hugged by a swarm of hyraxes.
* CatsAreSnarkers: Diego's usual response to the madness around him is an unimpressed look and a dry quip.
* CatsHateWater: This trope was used in the second film when Diego became freaked out about water as the area begins to flood.
* CharacterDevelopment:
** Like Manny, the first movie has Diego learn to let go of his hatred of humans (who slaughtered many of his packmates) while he's spending time with Roshan.
** Throughout the first film, he realizes how much better and healthier it is to surround yourself with friends and comrades who care about you, as opposed to a pack of people who are only out for themselves. His connection to the Herd wavers in the third film, when he thinks hanging around a bunch of herbivores all the time is making him too soft for a saber, but in the end, the lesson he learned about the importance of family is only strengthened by the experience. In the fourth film, he sees a bit of his old self in Shira, and he passes along the wisdom he gained years ago to her, to help her break away from her BadBoss and complete her HeelFaceTurn.
** In the first film, Diego seemed to have anger management issues and was quick to lash out when provoked, and traces of that trait carried over to the second film. By the third and fourth films, he's mellowed out a lot more and gotten his temper under control as a result of maturing.
* TheComicallySerious: In the original. In the sequels, he's loosened up a bit, to the point where he's fist bumping with the other characters by the 5th movie.
%%* CoolUncle
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Half of his pack were killed by human hunters so their fur can be used to keep warm.
* DeadpanSnarker: He even surpasses Manny with his snarking. But then again, he ''is'' voiced by Creator/DenisLeary.
-->'''Sid:''' Hey, my feet are sweating.\
'''Diego:''' Do we need a news flash every time your body does something?
* DefectorFromDecadence: When he turns against Soto in the original film.
* DefrostingIceKing: Like Manny, he starts out cold and emotionless, intent on only getting Pinky and using the others as a means for leverage within the pack with Soto, but his friendship with Manny and Roshan and Sid help him to thaw out emotionally.
* DeliveryGuy: When Ellie is giving birth to Peaches, Diego has to sit by her side and talk her through her delivery, while ''also'' having to fight off a pack of hungry Guanlongs that are trying to eat them.
* DemotedToExtra: He was pretty much demoted to being an extra in the Christmas special.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: In the original film, as noted below on the OutOfFocus entry, Diego is the second most important character in the film after Manny, since the original movie follows their CharacterDevelopment and friendship closely and the impact they end up having on each other, whilst Sid is in the very minor role of "comic relief" and supporting character to both of their arcs.
* DisneyDeath: In the original movie, he takes a seemingly mortal blow for Manny from Soto, only to turn up alive later on.
* DoubleAgent: In the original film, he is working for Soto to get the baby, whilst pretending that he is friends with Manny and Sid and their charge. This later comes to bite him in the back, however, when he [[HeelFaceTurn Heel-Face Turns]].
* TheDragon: To Soto's BigBad for the first half of the first film until his HeelFaceTurn.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even prior to his HeelFaceTurn, Diego is genuinely moved to tears when he sees the mural showing how Manny lost his first family.
* GoodIsNotSoft: He's a warm, level-headed guy. Just don't hurt his Sid and Manny, or Roshan for that matter. It is only for the better when he demands you to leave his friends alone.
* HairTriggerTemper: Mostly in the first film. He becomes a lot calmer and more tolerant in later films, maybe because he's gotten used to Sid's silly demeanor.
* TheHeavy: Diego is the most active villainous presence in the first film as he drives Manny, Sid, and Roshan towards Soto at Half-Peak.
* HeelFaceTurn: In the first movie. Diego slowly begins to have an attack of conscience because he bonds with Manny, Sid and Roshan, sees the forgiveness Manny gives to the baby and his kind, and sees Manny go out of his way to save the creature that is setting him up for slaughter. Manny's loyalty and his decision to rescue him serves as the final catalyst for Diego to change allegiances, and he performs a HeroicSacrifice to protect Manny from his former pack leader. He narrowly avoids RedemptionEqualsDeath, and he becomes a full-fledged heroic character and a core member of the herd for the rest of the franchise (albeit a gruff and prickly one).
* HeelRealization: He's confronted about the selfishness and brutality in his plans that set up Manny when the mammoth saves him from the lava, and after Roshan chooses to walk to ''him'' first. This culminates in his change of heart and the decision to do whatever it takes to make sure his new "herd" makes it to safety - even if it might mean his own death.
* HeldGaze: With Manny, twice - once in the original film and then again in ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs.'' Bonus points for happening in highly tense moments for both of them.
* HeroicSacrifice: His HeelFaceTurn prompts him to turn against Soto, his leader, in order to save Manny, Roshan and Sid, and he ends up taking the fatal blow meant for Manny as the battle is winding down. The film even goes so far to show him [[DisneyDeath dying]], and telling the others to go on without him to make sure Roshan gets back to his father.
* HonoraryUncle: For his best friend Manny's daughter Peaches.
* IDontWantToBeNormal: Instead of wanting to settle down with his Herd Diego wanted to go on another adventure, which later turns into a BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor moment.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: As an AntiVillain, Diego is originally hostile, cynical, short-tempered and sinister, but he softens as he travels with Manny and Sid to return the baby to his human tribe and shows more and more of a conscience, eventually pulling a HeelFaceTurn. After becoming an official member of the herd, the reformed Diego is a tough guy who's never slow with a caustic remark and likes to keep his more vulnerable emotions in check, but he's also loyal, supportive, courageous and fairly warm-hearted to the animals who get to know him, having an odd friendship with Sid in particular.
* TheLancer: If Manny's TheLeader, then Diego is the second-in-command, and this shows throughout the films with Diego essentially being Manny's wingman and balancing him out leadership-wise. This is also a component in the original film as well since Diego is the second most important character after Manny with a lot of time devoted to his own leadership skills and how they complement Manny's, though in a negative way since Diego isn't the most stellar guy early on in the film.
* MeaningfulName: Diego is the Spanish/Hispanic version of the name "Jacob" which means "He deceives." Just like the Biblical Jacob, Diego is redeemed as well despite his deceptions.
* MightyRoar: Like most media portrayals of ''Smilodon'', he can roar like a lion or tiger. He lets out a particularly impressive one at the beginning of ''Continental Drift''.
* TheMole: Diego's role in the first film before his HeelFaceTurn. Lampshaded by promotional posters that have "Double Agent" as a description for him.
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: The in-between to Sid's nice and Manny's mean. While his CharacterDevelopment allowed him to become much nicer, Diego still isn't above engaging in acts of bullying here and there and is definitely the most snarky of the trio.
* NotSoAboveItAll: He pretty much shares the OnlySaneMan role with Manny, but he does have a goofier side that surfaces from time to time. In particular, he seems to have a suppressed daredevil streak. In the first film, he immediately wants to redo the near-death experience the trio had sliding down the ice caves, and in the second film, he cheers Sid on to try to jump off a waterfall. In the third film, he's just as impressed by Buck's daring feats and his tall tales as Crash and Eddie, to Manny's annoyance.
* NotWorthKilling: After giving Sid a scare by not letting go after helping him [[PlayingPossum fake his death]], Diego does let go at Manny's prompt. When Sid admits he thought Diego might actually eat him, Diego quips that he doesn’t eat "junk food", implying he doesn’t consider Sid a worthwhile meal.
* OfficialCouple: With Shira by the end of ''Continental Drift''. The next movie, ''Collision Course'', has them discussing the idea of having children.
%%* OnlySaneMan: Most of the time.
* OutOfFocus: In the original film, he was arguably the second most important character after Manny. In the sequels, he's more of a supporting character.
* PaleFemalesDarkMales: Diego's has golden colored fur while Shira's is white.
* PantheraAwesome: He is a ''Smilodon'' who can be highly protective of his herd.
* PredatorsAreMean: Downplayed. As much of a remorseless predator he claims to be, he's not that bad of a guy. If anything, he's more of a BruiserWithASoftCenter, especially towards Manny and even his daughter, which Sid and others point out.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: Narrowly averted. Originally, the intention was for him to die by the creators, but Creator/DenisLeary warned it would upset kids and the test screening proved him right. So it was changed to an UnexplainedRecovery even though the final cut of the film does show Diego obviously ''dying'', on-screen, in a HeroicSacrifice.
* RevengeIsNotJustice: At first, he wants to help Soto get revenge on the humans for killing half of their pack, but after developing a friendship with Manny and Sid, he soon realizes that killing a human baby isn't worth the trouble, which triggered his HeelFaceTurn.
* TheSmartGuy: Most prominently in the first film, because he's too smart to know that, if he just changes sides quickly, it won't end well plus he's shown to be smart when they show how he manipulates Manny and Sid to think that he's leading them to "the humans". Furthermore he came up with a plan to escape Soto's pack, which worked for the most part. It is carried over in the sequels to; Diego is able to keep a cool head and come up with ideas while everyone else is panicking. In the second movie it was Diego who quickly came up with a plan when everyone (including himself) was dangling or balancing on an entirely unstable pile of rocks. In general, if there's any one member of the main characters quickest to think of a plan or assess a situation efficiently, it's him.
* SnowySabertooths: He is a ''Smilodon'' who serves as one of the main characters in a franchise themed around snowy climates.
* TheSpock: If Manny's TheKirk, then Diego's TheSpock. Diego is dispassionate, calculating, logical, and intelligent, and even more of a DeadpanSnarker than Manny. As a result, he helps balance Manny out and Manny helps him bring out his softer, emotional side in the Original and the other films. Diego and Manny basically reflect the friendship of the original Kirk and Spock.
* StraightMan: He tends to share this role with Manny, having a much more dry, deadpan and serious personality compared to Sid's zany, spontaneous, {{Cloudcuckoolander}} mentality - though he does loosen up and become more willing to entertain Sid's silliness overtime.
* TheStoic: At least in the first film. While he does thaw quite a bit, he still likes to keep his emotions to himself and put up a tough exterior.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Like Manny, he was quite serious and aloof in the beginning but gradually became warmer and nicer after CharacterDevelopment.
* TakingTheBullet: How he saves Manny during the climatic battle at the end of the original ''Ice Age''.
* TokenEvilTeammate: He's originally TheMole in the Herd, working as Soto's right-hand man, until his HeelFaceTurn. Afterwards, this trope is played more for laughs. He's the [[PredatorsAreMean only carnivore in the gang]] until the end of ''Continental Drift'', and he's usually the first one to threaten to kill/eat their enemies. One time, he griped about losing his edge, and in ''Continential Drift'', he claims he's a "remorseless assassin", but can't back that up. Even Shira, who’s the same species as him, doesn’t first think about maiming or killing enemies like he does.
* TookALevelInKindness: In the original film, Diego is very brusque, standoffish and short-tempered, frequently snapping at Manny and Sid, who he considers to be prey animals. After befriending them and pulling his HeelFaceTurn, he becomes a lot more friendly, laidback and down to earth in the sequels, trading quips and snark freely with the two.
* TookALevelInIdealism: Diego starts off only knowing self-serving Darwinism under the ruthless Soto. After being rescued from certain doom by Manfred, Diego hears, "That's what you do in a herd: you look out for each other." This "got your back" principle, which is lacking in his original pack, inspires Diego to abandon his mission to betray the group to Soto's pack and actively ''defend'' Manfred and the sloth Sid. In the fourth film, Diego (who's been with his FamilyOfChoice for years at this point) tells Shira he used to be a lot like her, ruthless and out for himself all the time, before he found a better way of living his life with Manny and Sid, and he never looked back, which causes her to gradually [[DefrostingIceQueen do the same.]]
* TrueCompanions: With Manny, Sid and the rest of the herd. Even when it looks like Manny and Ellie's family are leaving them at the end of ''The Meltdown'', Diego plans to stick with Sid. Diego is also the one who helps Ellie give birth to Peaches; and after the latter moves out, Diego still lives with Manny, Ellie, Sid, and the opossum brothers. Manny calls Sid and Diego "[his] side of the family."
* UnexplainedRecovery: In the original film when he returns to Manny and Sid after apparently dying. He brushes it off with "Nine lives, baby!" Because of this, some fans theorise there might've been a supernatural intervention involved for his being recalled to life, though nothing like that is stated explicitly in the film.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: In the sequels, the Herd is shown being part of a community of animals that is almost entirely made up of prey animals, and yet few seem to think much of Diego (and later Shira too) waltzing around freely among them, despite being a predator. Presumably, they know that he's not on the prowl when he's with Manny and Sid.
* VillainProtagonist: He evolves into this via CharacterDevelopment and BecomingTheMask in the original film. His switching sides as a result of Manny's kindness to him nearly cost him his life but he survives Soto's violence towards him.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Sid. Diego looks perpetually annoyed around him and is quick to deliver some snark at Sid, yet he will go to great lengths to save the sloth when he happens to be in danger (which is quite often).
* TheWorfEffect: He's usually a competent and magnificent fighter, but both Soto and the pirates came to the point of overpowering him.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: In the second movie, Diego's fear of water nearly gets him killed. But by the end, he learns to overcome it.

A female woolly mammoth, whom Manny, Diego, and Sid meet during their migration to escape the flood in the second movie, Ice Age: The Meltdown. She serves as a LoveInterest to Manny.
-----
* {{Acrofatic}}: Ellie is a nine ton mammoth who can swing on trees like a possum.
%%* ActionMom: Plenty of moments!
* BabiesEverAfter: She and Manny have a daughter, Peaches, by the end of the third movie.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Manny in the second film.
* BigBeautifulWoman: Manny sheepishly admits he finds her large rump attractive. She's actually flattered by this and appreciates the compliment.
* BigLittleSister: Implied to be the younger sister of Crash and Eddie, but is ''gargantuan'' compared to them. Justified, because she's a mammoth and they're possums.
* BrokenBird: Was a lonely orphan up until she found Crash and Eddie's mom, and became a part of their family.
* CharacterDevelopment:
** In her first appearance, Ellie was a strange GenkiGirl who loved to be a part of her brother's pranks. Come the next movie, Ellie has become more mature and even achieved the status of OnlySaneWoman.
** Away from her husband, she turns out to be an effective leader in her own right when she leads her remaining family and the other animals to the land bridge on her own.
%%* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Replaces Sid of this trait in the second movie. Loses this trait in the third.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She was seperated from her original herd when she was only a child. Thankfully, she was found by her adoptive opossum mother.
* FatAndProud: She loves it when Manny tells her he likes her big butt.
* FieryRedhead: Especially in her first appearance, she's fun-loving and doesn't take Manny's attitude lightly. With {{character development}} she still keeps the "fiery" aspect, but in a more controlled way.
* GentleGiant: A BigFun mammoth.
* HappilyAdopted: Though she was unaware that she was in fact a mammoth rather than a possum until she met Manny, she still seems to have had a happy life with the possums. Even when she learns the truth, she still considers them to be her family.
* HappilyMarried: With Manny. They bicker at times but their love and devotion to each other is strong.
* HotBlooded: She can get pretty pumped, mostly in the second movie.
* LoveInterest: To Manny.
* MissingMom: Her opossum mother who adopted her passed away in her adolescence
* NiceGirl: All in all, Ellie is a kind, strong, and beautiful soul. She loves those close to her very much, and is willing to go to great lengths to save them when they're in danger.
* ObliviousAdoption: There is a reason that Ellie used to be the picture for that page.
* OfficialCouple: With Manny.
* OnlySaneWoman: In the third movie, she's the one making the rational decisions when Manny is being too stubborn, Sid is being unreasonable, or Diego is being selfish or stubborn.
* OpenMindedParent: More so than Manny. She believes that whatever her daughter gets into, she will be able to get herself out of it on her own. This is averted, however, in the fifth film, where she tries to throw cold water on Peaches' plans to leave home by convincing her that she's woefully unprepared to handle it without her parents' help. It doesn't work, and both she and Manny get called out on it.
* PaleFemalesDarkMales: Ellie's fur is lighter in comparison to Manny's.
* PregnantBadass: In the third movie, despite being pregnant with her and Manny's child, she's still able to think quick on her feet and go into danger for her friends. She gives birth to Peaches during the climax.
* PromotionToParent: Even before having Peaches, she more or less became Crash and Eddie's mother figure after the death of their mother and the two brothers actively refusing to grow up.
* RomancingTheWidow: Manny is a widower and they fall in love.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The energetic girl (FieryRedhead) to Manny's savvy guy (OnlySaneMan) in the second movie. She loses this trait later on.
* SecondLove: To Manny, since his first wife died.
* SignificantGreenEyedRedhead: Has reddish fur and green eyes. She's also the first mammoth that Manny meets for a long time and they become an {{official couple}}.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Ellie was understandably upset and offended when [[TeamDad Manny]] suggested that they get together to "save their species" and promptly gave him the cold shoulder. But when the two are forced (by Diego) to cooperate to get the herd out of mortal peril, she sees his bravery and selfless nature and begins to fall for him...only to turn her back on him again due to a fight over whether they should cross a risky geyser field, in which Manny calls her stubborn and hard-headed. The feelings are rekindled, however, when Manny comes back to save her from drowning. Even in the end when they find out they don't have to be together because there are other mammoths, she decides to accept Manny's proposal by choice, having legitimately fallen in love with him.
* SmallParentHugeChild: A flashback reveals that Ellie was [[InterspeciesAdoption raised by possums]]. Naturally, being a mammoth, she is gargantuan compared to them, including the mother possum, even as a young calf.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female in the herd [[spoiler:up until Manny's and her daughter Peaches is born, that is.]]
* TeamMom: Even before becoming a literal one, she did take care of the team, and in the cases of Eddie, Crash and Sid babysat them.
* TrueCompanions: She happily accepts Manny's companions, Diego and Sid, as her own. Even after Peaches moves out and half of the herd as well, Ellie is still happy to still be living with Diego and Sid.
* {{Tsundere}}: Is a dere dere. She's sweet, but getting her mad is a big mistake.
* VibrantOrange: Ellie has orange fur covering most of her body, which complements her more energetic side.

Twin possum brothers who become new protagonists in the second film. Adopted brothers of Ellie the mammoth, they cared for her and taught her to hang by her tail from a tree branch when she slept, as they did. They are usually portrayed as the comic reliefs of the group.
-----
* BigBrotherInstinct: They love Ellie dearly and are fiercely protective of her, even though she's a completely different species than them (and towers over them). When Manny's attempts to flirt with her failed miserably, they both resent him and call him a pervert.
* CharacterDevelopment: In ''WesternAnimation/TheIceAgeAdventuresOfBuckWild'', Crash and Eddie finally learn to become competent survivors in their own right and prove they don't need to live under Ellie's care anymore.
* CowardlyLion: In the fourth film. They don't even bother to try to free their friends, and don't contribute in the ensuing battle until Louis has given the herd a fighting chance.
* DemotedToComicRelief: While they have always been comedic characters, their relationship with Ellie is important to the plot of ''The Meltdown'', and they're shown to at least have some common sense. In the third film, their role is largely mitigated, though they continue to serve a purpose to the plot. From the fourth film onward, however, they [[TookALevelInDumbass Take a Level in Dumbass]] and pretty much only exist as background space and make an occasional joke.
* FearlessFool: While it's evident in all three of the movies they're in, they admit to Louis in the fourth that they're just too ''stupid'' to be scared of dying when they pull crazy stunts.
* HeroWorship: In third film they discover an idol in Buck.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: Crash has blue eyes, while Eddie has brown eyes. Eddie also has a brown stripe down his nose.
* KidAppealCharacter: Their goofy, childish behavior makes them this.
* LittleBigBrother: They are implied to be older than Ellie, and they are much smaller. Justified, as Ellie is a mammoth and they are possums.
* ManChild: Increasingly with each film. Their sister Ellie is old enough to have a grown daughter, and they're somewhere in the vicinity of her (Ellie's) age, but you'd never know it by listening to them.
%%* MeaningfulName: Crash.
* MissingMom: Their mother passed away while they were adolescents.
* OutOfFocus: They contribute nothing to the plot in the fourth film, and very little in the fifth.
* PluckyComicRelief: Not that the films were lacking in this department.
* SixthRanger: They join the herd only in the second movie.
* ThoseTwoGuys: They're almost never seen without each other.
* TookALevelInDumbass: While they were certainly goofy in their debut movie (the second), they were still marginally intelligent. By the fourth movie, even admit that they're too stupid to be scared of the supposed end of the world.
* TookALevelInJerkass: They are are considerably more annoying in the ''[[VideoGame/IceAge Ice Age 2]]'' [[VideoGame/IceAge video game]] than in the film, at one point flat-out getting the walnut Scrat needs for passing to the next level and refusing to give it to him until he beats them in a rather hard digging mini-game.
* TricksterTwins: Their main hobby is [[ThePrankster playing pranks]], either on each other or other people. While harmless, their antics tend to annoy others.

An adventurous weasel that makes an appearance in the third film. Living in the lost world, he helps as a guide for the herd towards their kidnapped friend. He’s missing his right eye but wears a leaf as an [[EyePatchOfPower impromptu eyepatch]]. Also.. he’s ''slightly'' insane.
-----
* AbnormalAmmo: Throughout the third film, Buck uses a pomagranate-like fruit as a long-range weapon. The fruits emit a gas that appears to be unpleasant for dinosaurs.
* TheAce: An expert survivor in a hostile world of dinosaurs and routinely duels with a humongous Baryonyx.
* BornLucky: He's invincible. He lives in a world filled with dinosaurs and even giant bugs, yet he never gets hurt.
* BreakoutCharacter: Was popular enough to show up in a cameo in ''Continental Drift'', and returns as a main character in ''Collision Course'' and is the star of ''Adventures of Buck Wild''.
* TheBusCameBack: Returns for ''Collision Course''.
* ButNowIMustGo: Opts to stay in the dinosaurs' jungle to hunt Rudy rather than go with the Herd. He stays with the herd in ''Collision Course''.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "It's time to get buckwild!"
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Staying in a land of dinosaurs with nobody to talk to will do this to you.
* CompanionCube: He still carries a torch for the [[InformedDeformity "ugly"]] pineapple he accidentally married.
* CrazySurvivalist: He's lived among the much larger dinosaurs for quite some time, and it shows.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Well, crazy, but still...
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Somehow winded up trapped in a dinosaur-filled land. Lost his eye to his nemesis. And went mad over time.
* DitzyGenius: In the 5th movie, he's shown to harbor quite a bit of scientific knowledge in spite of his eccentric nature.
* EyePatchOfPower: He wears a leaf as an eye patch.
* EyeScream: Rudy clawed out his right eye in the same battle Buck took Rudy's tooth.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: Just ''how'' long has he spent down there?
* HandicappedBadass: He lost his right eye to Rudy but is still an amazing badass. If anything, losing his eye ''made'' him badass in the first place.
* HappilyMarried: He's apparently married to a pineapple. An ugly one, but he loves her.
* HonoraryTrueCompanion: Was offered a place in the Herd but he opted to stay in the dinosaurs' jungle instead.
* IChooseToStay: Buck is offered the chance to finally leave the dinosaurs' land at the end of the third movie, and actually considers it for a moment, but ultimately chooses to stay when he realizes Rudy is still alive.
* InterspeciesAdoption: In ''Collision Course'', he rescued and adopted a baby pumpkin and named her Bronwyn.
* NiceGuy: While he's insane, he's still a nice weasel.
* NoodleIncident: ''"And now let me tell you about the time I used a sharpened clam-shell to turn a T-Rex... into a T-Rachel!"''
* OnlySaneByComparison: In ''Collision Course'', while the rest of the herd are more concerned with Peaches and Julian's relationship (the mammoths), having children (Diego and Shira), finding love (Sid), or are otherwise disconnected from the quest (Crash, Eddie, and Granny), Buck's the only one who's more concerned with finding a way to stop the impending asteroid and saving everyone from certain death. It's also the same movie where he adopts a pumpkin as his baby and talks to a figment of his imagination named Neil [=deBuck=] Weasel, so the bar's pretty low.
* SanitySlippage: Suffered this three months prior to the third film, where [[NoodleIncident he woke up one morning married to an ugly pineapple]]. In ''Collision Course'', he adopts a pumpkin, believing it to be a baby.
* WickedWeasel: Subverted. He's crazy, but he is unambiguously a good guy.

Manny and Ellie's daughter.
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: She's just as mobile as any mammoth on land. She's also ''super agile'' on trees, like her mother and uncles. ''Trees''. She uses her tail to swing from tree to tree.
%%* ActionGirl: The way she took on Captain Gutt alone ensures she qualifies as this.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: The youngest member of the Herd. As such, the audience sees her visibly age throughout the franchise from a newborn baby to an adult mammoth.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Peaches manages to get into the "cool" mammoth posse, which includes her crush, Ethan during the fourth film. However, she winds up [[InnocentlyInsensitive accidentally hurting her best friend, Louis, when she denies their friendship to look cooler. He overhears her and is visibly hurt]]. Not long after that, Ethan's devil may care attitude nearly kills her and then, he insults her family by saying that it's bad enough that her family is ''half possum''.
* BrattyTeenageDaughter: Is sorta one in the 4th film, disrespecting her father even when he tells he's only looking out for her best interest. She gets over it by the end though.
* CharacterDevelopment: ''Collision Course'' has Peaches becomes a ''more'' OlderAndWiser person than the BrattyTeenageDaughter personality she had in the previous movie.
%%* ChekhovsSkill: [[spoiler:Her tree-swinging ability]] in the fourth film.
* CheerfulChild: In the Christmas Special, Peaches is an energetic and happy child.
* DaddysGirl: Despite their clashing over her being rebellious and him being overprotective, Peaches loves Manny dearly. She's close to both her parents though.
* DudeMagnet: Her crush in the fourth film, Ethan, took a liking to her over the fourth film. Her best friend, Louis, has a massive crush on her. And she's happily engaged to Julian in the fifth film.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: In ''Ice Age: Continental Drift'', Peaches has a bun with her bangs pulled off to the side, and her hair is flipped to the left. In ''Ice Age: Collision Course'', she has her bangs pinned up, and her hair is flipped to the right -- a subtle sign of her CharacterDevelopment.
* GentleGiant: While she started off bratty in the fourth movie, she was a still decent person. She gets better in the fifth.
* JerkassHasAPoint: In the fourth film, Peaches may have said some hurtful stuff but she wasn't wrong over how Manny embarrassed her in front of the other mammoths. Even the other mammoths around her said that what Manny did was embarrassing.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Peaches may have been a major brat to Manny, but she immediately shows that she deeply loves him after they are separated.
* MeaningfulName: Her names actually has three meanings -- First, peaches are her father's favorite food. Secondly, it was a code word for her mother to use to let Manny know the baby (a still unborn Peaches) was coming. Lastly, she's "soft and round" like the fruit.
* NiceGirl: After ''Continental Drift'', Peaches becomes more patient and level-headed.
* NotWantingKidsIsWeird: Played painfully straight. In the Easter special, she makes a passing remark to Ellie that she's not sure she wants kids. Ellie treats it like the worst thing in the world, and sure enough, Peaches changes her tune by the end of the short.
* ObliviousToLove: Peaches is completely unaware that Louis has feelings for her.
* PaleFemalesDarkMales: Peaches has light brown fur while Julian's fur is darker.
* PartingWordsRegret: Subverted. Before being separated from her father, Peaches angrily tells him she wishes he wasn't her father. She later comes to regret what she said because she fears she'll never see him again and the last thing she did was disown Manny. Ellie reassures that Manny would do all he can to make it back to them. And sure enough, he does.
* PutOnABus: At the end of ''Collision Course'' she leaves the herd after marrying Julian to start a new life on their own.
* RelativeButton: Insulting her family, especially when you says ''half-possum'' is a good way to get her pissed.
* ShesAllGrownUp: Born in ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs'' and a CheerfulChild in the Christmas special. Comes ''Continental Drift'', and she's a teenager whom Manny has yet to understand she needs her independence.
* SingleGirlSeeksMostPopularGuy: The reason why she has a crush on local heartthrob Ethan. When he took an interest in Peaches, he "advised" her to not bring Louis along when coming to hang out with him and the Brat Pack; her crush on him blinded her so much that she actually followed his "advice" and later winded up hurting Louis's feelings, her best friend, by denying their said friendship to Ethan and the Brat Pack with Louis overhearing. Immediately afterwards, his devil may care attitude to life, a philosophy that nearly got him, Peaches, and their friends killed was a major turn off for her. However, the final nail in the coffin that ultimately assured her that Ethan wasn't "the one" was when he insulted her family.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Thanks to becoming OlderAndWiser, Peaches drops her previous SingleGirlSeeksMostPopularGuy attraction and falls in love with the sweet, friendly, and incredibly hopeful [[GentleGiant Julian]].
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: With Louis. While she's a giant mammoth, he's a tiny molehog.
* TookALevelInKindness: Goes from an immature BrattyTeenageDaughter in the fourth film to a mature NiceGirl by the fifth.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: As a toddler, Peaches was a lot sweeter and closer to her dad. Her desire for independence and Manny's overprotectiveness serves as a wedge between them as she gets older, though they do still love each other immensely.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: InUniverse. Manny thought about naming her "Ellie Junior".
* YoungestChildWins: Unlike her older half sibling, she survives into adulthood and even gets married.

Gutt’s second in command, a female saber.
----
* AbortedArc: ''Collision Course'' heavily implied that she and Diego would try to start a family. Come the next movie, ''The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild'' Shira abruptly disappears with no comment, not even from Diego, as to what happened to her. It's safe to say this arc was canned for good because of this.
* ActionGirl: She's a pirate who can put on a fight.
* BabiesEverAfter: {{Discussed|Trope}}. In the fifth film, she and Diego discuss having children together and how good of parents they would be.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: She has pretty white fur and flawless face, while all the other members of the Pirate Crew are quite ugly. Unsurprisingly, she is the one who eventually has a HeelFaceTurn.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Diego in the fourth film, as they trade sarcastic quips with one another while also developing a mutual attraction.
* BerserkButton: She doesn't like to be called "kitty".
* CharacterDevelopment: Herd life was initially something that Shira was uninterested in, but this view changed quickly as she was accepted into Diego's collective herd as his mate.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Shira is completely absent without any mention in ''Buck Wild''.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: {{Implied|Trope}}. She mentioned willingly leaving her pack (which Diego even noted that doing that is hard) and that Gutt saved her life at some point which led her to pledge loyalty to him as a part of his pirate crew.
%%* DeadpanSnarker: Shares this trait with Diego.
* TheDragon: To Gutt, being his first mate on his crew, at least at first.
* FriendToAllChildren: When she and Diego talk about starting a family in ''Collision Course'', Shira is shown to have a soft spot for children in general. Unfortunately, being a big cat, younger animals are terrified of her and always run away.
* GrudgingThankYou: When she's held prisoner and Diego brings her water, she says thank you in this way.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:But of course. Notably, hers happens a bit faster than Diego's did.]] Must be because of Diego actively encouraging her to do this. [[spoiler:Captain Gutt's [[{{Jerkass}} dickery]] helped.]]
%%* LoveInterest: For Diego.
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: Is designed more realistically and less cartoony than the rest of Gutt's crew.
* OfficialCouple: With Diego by the end of ''Continental Drift''. The next movie, ''Collision Course'', has them discussing the idea of having children.
* PaleFemalesDarkMales: Shira's fur is white while Diego's is golden-colored.
* PantheraAwesome: She is a ''Smilodon'' who used to be a pirate.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Apart from a few insults directed at them as a group, she's never spoken more than ten words to any herd member who isn't Diego. In ''Collision Course,'' she doesn't do much save stand next to him and discuss having children with him. Then in ''Adventures Of Buck Wild'' she's gone completely.
* ScaryTeeth: PlayedForLaughs in the fifth film. At Manny and Ellie's anniversary party, Shira and Diego try to talk to some younger animals. She bares her sharp fangs at them, which are dripping with [[ABloodyMess red berries she's just eaten]], and the little ones run off screaming.
--> '''Shira:''' But I even ''smiled'' this time.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: The main reason Shira falls for Diego is because he offered her a place in the Herd saying that the members look out for each other.
%%* SpicyLatina: Courtesy of being voiced by Creator/JenniferLopez.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A. Despite her stubbornness and initial attitude towards Diego, Shira eventually falls in love with him.
* UngratefulBitch: At first. She doesn't appreciate being rescued by the herd when Gutt leaves her to drown.

[[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Sid's grandmother.]] She's [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} rather nutty,]] and also shows horrendously bad personal hygiene. The rest of Sid's family searched for him with the only purpose to dump her with him then scram. When she disappears early in the film only to later be found "stowing away" on the Herd's little "boat", they have no choice but to take her with them. Has an imaginary pet called Precious.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorWildlife: A downplayed example, some parts of her fur are purple-ish.
* BlackSheep: Like Sid, she is considered a nuisance by their family.
* CassandraTruth: [[spoiler:Her pet, "Precious", is real. SHE'S A GIANT WHALE.]]
* ClothingAppendage: All the dark fur covering her back resembles a shawl.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Shows shades of this, though she does have several moments where she shows she's not entirely crazy.
-->'''Granny:''' I slept through the comet that killed the unicorns!
* CoolOldLady: She's tough, funny, and has a [[spoiler:pet ''whale''.]]
* CovertPervert: Her siren takes the form of a muscular male sloth with a prominent PornStache.
-->'''Siren!Sloth:''' The wrinklier the raisin, ''the sweeter the fruit.''\
'''Granny:''' Ooh, Granny like it! Granny like it very much!
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: [[spoiler:About the existence of "Precious".]]
* DirtyOldWoman: If the siren scene in ''Continental Drift'' left any room for doubt, [[spoiler:her relationship with Teddy in ''Collision Course'' dispenses with it. While he's got a legitimate crush on her, she doesn't even try to pretend their relationship is based on anything other than sex.]]
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: She thought that '''''[[BigBad Captain Gutt]]''''' was a "nice monkey" at first in the 4th movie. This was after he orders her and the rest of the herd to WalkThePlank and FedToTheBeast, but she feels pleased of Gutt telling her “ladies first”.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Teddy, a rabbit in ''Collision Course''.
* IWasQuiteTheLooker: ''[[http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/iceage/images/6/64/Geotopian_Granny.png/revision/latest?cb=20160614234855 And how.]]''
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Usually a [[GrumpyOldMan grumpy old lady]], but she's shown to have some sympathy for her grandson Sid and was genuinely saddened when the herd found the land-bridge destroyed and the others nowhere to be found.
* TheLoad: Her family considers her to be this, and at first it seems she'll be one to the herd as well. [[spoiler:She does prove useful at some points however, especially by having a giant pet sperm whale.]]
* MiniatureSeniorCitizen: She looks like she might be folded in half the way she’s hunched over.
* NeverMessWithGranny: She's a tough old lady.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: So far she's just "Granny". Her name was finally revealed at the end of the fifth film: Gladys.
* ThePigPen: Seen in the scene where she has her "first bath in decades" and and releases enough oil to cause the water around her to develop a bright sheen and kill off several fish once and a shark.
* SleptThroughTheApocalypse: She manages to stay asleep throughout the continental crack-up that divided the land that was followed up by a vicious storm. She apparently slept through the comet that killed off the unicorns too.
* ScrewPolitenessImASenior: She’s not afraid to whack you with that stick, just ask Diego. Or act rudely to EVERYONE, even towards her family, just ask Sid and Manny.
-->'''Diego:''' What's the life expectancy for a female sloth?
-->''' Manny:''' She'll outlive us all, you know that, right? Yeah, the spiteful ones live the longest.

Julian is a young and easygoing, fun loving mammoth who is Peaches' fiance. After they get married, their plan is to venture on their own which doesn't make him very popular with Manny and Ellie.
----
* BigFun: Much bigger than Manny, and much jollier as well.
* CuddleBug: He enjoys hugging others.
* GentleGiant: He's huge and a very well liked mammoth.
* {{Keet}}: Julian is quite chipper and happy-go-lucky.
* NiceGuy: Julian is a caring and fun mammoth who loves Peaches and is willing to do anything for her.
* PaleFemalesDarkMales: Julian has dark brown fur while Peaches' fur is more light brown.
* ThePollyanna: Is constantly happy, even with the threat of the world ending.
* SecondLove: To Peaches. She fell in love with him after she got over her crush on Ethan from the last movie.

A beautifully-dressed British ground sloth living in Geotopia who becomes Sid's love interest and new girlfriend.
----
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Similar to Shira, Brooke is completely absent in ''Buck Wild'', despite the latter film explicity taking place after ''Collision Course'' when she joined the herd and became an item with Sid.
* ClothingAppendage: She has really long fur hanging over her legs that make her look like she is wearing a dress.
* FurryFemaleMane: Has long blond hair.
* GranolaGirl: Brooke is a very spiritual person.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Has blond [[FurryFemaleMane "hair"]] and is mostly a NiceGirl. [[spoiler:Through it temporarily turns white after she loses her youth.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: Not when it comes to the big things, as she's willing to give up her youth and immortality to save the world. However, she also shows up at Julian and Peaches' wedding and hijacks the first song, making it about Sid and herself.
* LoveAtFirstSight: The very first moment Brooke sees Sid, she's hopelessly in love with him.
* MayDecemberRomance: Brooke physically looks noticeably younger than Sid, though due to her prolonged life in Geotopia, she is actually at least several decades if not centuries older than him. Their significant age gap doesn't stop them from falling for each other, and even when the crystals are broken and Brooke temporarily reverts to her real age, Sid's feelings for her don't waver at all.
* NiceGirl: Brooke is very sweet, welcoming and romantic and willing to help out main characters. [[BewareTheNiceOnes Still, she is not afraid to call out Shangri Llama on his greed.]]
* OfficialCouple: As of the fifth movie, she becomes mates with Sid.
* PaleFemalesDarkMales: Brooke's fair is bright and colorful in comparison to Sid's more dingier one.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: The writers didn't even bother giving her a reason to fall in love with Sid.
* SilverVixen: Even when her youth gets temporarily taken away, she looks just as beautiful as an old sloth.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: She's got eyelashes, long hair and her fur is long to look like she's wearing a dress.
* UglyGuyHotWife: With Sid, as of the fifth movie and it constantly gets [[LampshadeHanging pointed out]] that she is a pretty sloth with long hair, while he is a goofy looking, fat and dirty sloth.
* VagueAge: She's actually way older than Sid is, and the crystals make her keep her youth.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: '''Extremely''' downplayed, as Brooke is far from being a violent individual. However, she doesn't tolerate anyone insulting Sid, as it is the one way to anger her ([[TranquilFury in some way]]) as proven when Shangri Llama was yelling at Sid.
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: The [[RunningGag general reaction]] to her love for Sid is "This guy? For real?"

The deadly and dangerous leader of a pack of saber-toothed cats, Soto wanted to eat baby Roshan A.K.A 'Pinkie' in [[{{Revenge}} vengeance]] for the murders of several of his pack-mates. [[BigBad He is the main antagonist in the first film.]]
-----
* BadBoss: The original film characterizes him as a Mafia leader of sorts with no qualms about killing his subordinates for failing him.
* BigBad: Of the first movie. He's the primary threat to the Herd, spending the movie hunting them down so he can kill 'Pinkie' in vengeance for the murders of several of his pack-mates at the hands of the child's tribe.
* BeardOfEvil: He has a tuft of hair on his chin resembling a classic villainous goatee.
* CatsAreMean: He is a vicious and remorseless sabertooth who wants to take his revenge on the humans for the deaths of several of his pack. [[WouldHurtAChild By devouring a human infant]]. And will kill anyone who gets in his way, even his own [[BadBoss surviving pack members.]]
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Granted, it happens off-screen, but [[spoiler:getting impaled by multiple icicles]] is still a pretty brutal way to go for a kid's film.
* EvilCounterpart:
** To [[TheHero Manny.]] Both suffered the death of their family from humans, but whereas Manny learns to forgive and let go, Soto is simply more motivated to take revenge. Even as leaders, their styles couldn't be more different; while Soto frequently threatens his pack and has an "every man for himself" mentality for dealing with danger, Manny doesn't hesitate to risk his life for his herd.
** To Diego. They're both sabre-tooth tigers who want revenge against a human tribe for killing several members of their pack, but while Diego eventually lets go of his need for revenge and pulls a HeelFaceTurn after befriending Roshan and finding a new herd in Manny and Sid, Soto never does, constantly mistreats his existing pack, and remains evil to the very end.
* EvilIsBigger: Compared to Diego, who performs a HeelFaceTurn. Perhaps unsurprisingly, when the two fight each other in the climax, Soto takes Diego down not once but twice.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Soto has a deep, imposing voice that instantly warns the viewer that he's up to no good. As noted above, he's basically characterized as a mafia leader to some extent.
* FallingChandelierOfDoom: After Soto gets [[spoiler:knocked against a wall by an enraged Manny]], he can only watch in horror as [[spoiler:dislodged icicles fall onto him.]]
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: [[spoiler:He gets impaled by falling icicles]], which is a pretty brutal way to go in a kid’s film.
* FangsAreEvil: He is an imposing saber-tooth cat, so naturally he has big sabers.
* GoryDiscretionShot: [[spoiler:His death.]]
* HeroKiller: He would have killed Manny in the final confrontation if Diego hadn't pulled his HeroicSacrifice, and Diego nearly bites it himself in the process.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He wants to kill Roshan in revenge for the deaths of half his pack. However, his appalling treatment of the surviving members (especially Diego) make it clear that he sees their deaths as a blow to his own ego rather than having any genuine care for them.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:How he's killed. It's not shown, of course.]]
* ImpliedDeathThreat: He gives several to Diego.
-->'''Soto:''' I want that baby, Diego!\
'''Diego:''' I'll ''get'' it!\
'''Soto:''' You better! Unless you'd rather serve yourself as a replacement.
* IWantThemAlive: He wants Roshan alive to fully savor his revenge "fresh." He also threatens Diego that if Roshan's dead before then, Diego will do in his place.
* LargeAndInCharge: Besides Lenny, Soto is the largest member of his pack, and unlike the former, all of that bulk is muscle. [[EvilIsBigger It's especially evident when he and Diego share the screen]].
* NoNonsenseNemesis: He is taken seriously in all of his scenes and has zero tolerance for wasted time and energy.
* OhCrap: He realizes his fate the moment [[spoiler:the icicles fall down on him.]]
* OohMeAccentsSlipping: His voice actor's natural Croatian accent can be heard in some of Soto's lines.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Most of the plot focuses on Manny learning to let go and find a new family (as a result of Roshan and Sid's influence). While Soto has a personal vendetta to carry out against the baby, he doesn't take much action until the final act while Diego takes the active presence driving them towards Soto.
* PragmaticVillainy: His driving force in the film is to devour a human child as revenge for having most of his pride members killed by the child's tribe. However, this doesn't blind him to the fact that the mammoth protecting said child would make an excellent food source for the upcoming winter months.
* RevengeBeforeReason: He's hell-bent on killing Roshan as an act of vengeance against the human tribe that wiped out several members of his pack, and he will not be deterred even by the fact that he's a baby. In fact his want for revenge is what causes his death when [[spoiler:he's about to finish off Diego but gets distracted by Sid approaching with Roshan; Manny takes advantage by hitting Soto into a wall right below some icicles which fall and impale him.]]
* ShadowArchetype: He represents what Manny would have become if he had let his hatred get the better of him.
* SoundOnlyDeath: [[spoiler:Soto's death is primarily marked by the sound of the icicles hitting the ground and his subordinates' reactions as they both flinch.]]
* StarterVillain: As the BigBad of the first movie, Soto is the first full-on villain the herd goes up against. His ambitions and danger level are decently high by the first movie's standards, but primarily because of his pack, and multiple villains outdo him in terms of threat level; Rudy is far, far bigger and stronger, Captain Gutt has an entire pirate crew and ship and is a much stronger fighter, and Gavin tried to ensure the asteroid would wipe out every mammal on Earth.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: Most of the film deals with the development of Manny, Sid and Diego's relationship, hijinks and all. In contrast, Soto never engages in any of the comedy his henchmen do.
* WouldHurtAChild: His entire plan is to eat Roshan alive.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Soto threatens to kill Diego "as a replacement" if Roshan died over the falls rather than at his own claws, and decides to go through with it when Diego disobeys his commands in killing Manny. He's also not afraid in doing this to his other subordinates if they fail to accomplish his goal.

The other three sabers from Soto's pack. All with their own unique personalities, they follow Soto’s revenge towards the humans.
----
* AllThereInTheManual: Oscar and Lenny aren't called by their names in the film but in tie-in material.
* AxCrazy: It's obvious through Zeke's mannerisms that something is seriously wrong with this guy. That he is eager to maul what ever he sees doesn't help.
* BadassCrew: Diego outright says that the three of them and Soto are too much for him, Sid and Manny to fight off.
* BigThinShortTrio: Lenny (big), Oscar (thin), and Zeke (short).
* ButtMonkey: Zeke has his moments, though not to the same extent as Sid.
* CatsAreMean: Very big cats and of course very mean as well.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: They never appear again after the first film, though Diego does bring them up to Shira in the fourth film. Though considering what happened to Soto, it's unlikely they'd want to cross paths with the Herd again.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Zeke. What saber-toothed cat thinks about sorting meat?
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Half of their pack were killed by human hunters so they could use their fur to keep warm. Whether they would still attack the humans in retaliation were it not for Soto's desire for revenge is left to question.
* DeadpanSnarker: Oscar has his moments.
--> "Frustrated, Diego? Tracking down helpless infants too difficult for you?"
* TheDragon: After Diego goes on his mission, Oscar becomes this to Soto, acting as his messenger alongside Zeke but being more competent than him.
* EvilCounterpart: Zeke can be seen as one to Sid, given that both are the smallest and goofiest members of their respective packs (barring Roshan), and face-off against each other in the climax. [[spoiler: Sid wins.]]
* FatBastard: Lenny. He has no problem following Soto's orders and would have attacked Zeke just for talking about mammoth meat while he was starving.
* FlatCharacter: Lenny. Outside of his [[FatBastard distinct design]], he really has no defined personality traits, and only has two lines of dialogue during one scene.
* KarmaHoudini: With the possible exception of Zeke, who is left stuck inside a hole, Oscar and Lenny flee after Soto's death.
* LeanAndMean: Zeke, who looks downright anorexic for a ''Smilodon''. Oscar is also on the lankier side, at least compared to Soto and Diego.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Zeke is the tiniest of the group, and also the most fierce.
* PsychopathicManchild: Zeke. Just the mention or proposition of mauling something causes him to act like a kitten in a catnip field...who wants to kill something.
* TheRival: Oscar seems to fancy himself one of Diego, taking the time to rub in his failures to bring in Roshan and showing the most noticeable distrust of Diego's words. Well, he does have the most similar design to him.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Once Soto meets the receiving end of several icicles, Oscar and Lenny don't waste time in running away and never coming back.
* UncertainDoom: Zeke is left stuck headfirst in the hollow of a rock after a failed attempt to kill Sid and Roshan. It's unknown if he managed to get himself out or if he starved to death.
* VillainousGlutton: Deleted scenes indicate that Zeke and Lenny wanted to give up the hunt for Roshan and instead pick off any hapless stragglers on the migration.

The neanderthal baby that Manfred, Sid and Diego return to his father.
-----
* AllLovingHero: Roshan is the [[http://movieglimpse.com/ice_age Peace Child]] whose love for the animals brings them together in an unlikely herd and leads Manny on a journey of forgiveness to let go of his anger/bitterness toward humanity.
* AllThereInTheManual: He isn't named in the film. The novel reveals his name to be Roshan.
* CheerfulChild: Roshan is ''laughing'' happily when Sid drops him while he is climbing the cliff, and he takes everything in stride when it comes to being rescued by three animals - including [[VillainProtagonist Diego]].
* ChildrenRaiseYou: Roshan noticeably softens Manny and Diego, and Sid is right at home with the little tyke. His making the animals begin to care for him eventually leads to them becoming a [[FamilyOfChoice herd]].
* CutenessProximity: Most obvious whenever Sid is around him, but this happens with Manny and Diego, too.
* FearlessInfant: Roshan is this to a T. Manny even lampshades it: "You're a brave little squirt. I'll give you that."
* LivingMacGuffin: This trope does fit Roshan, being more than just the "object" that the group has to return to his father after his mother's sacrifice for him.
* LongBusTrip: After being returned to his family, he has never physically reappeared in the sequels, and only mentioned once in ''The Adventures of Buck Wild''’s recap of the franchise. A shame, because the SZH's rescue of him really changed them all for the better, and the herd was a result of his, uh, meddling (so to speak).
* MeaningfulName: Roshan is a Hindi name that means "light" or "light at dawn" and these meanings are evident in that he is a bright and cheerful baby, and his love for the animals eventually leads them out of the darkness of their [[DarkAndTroubledPast pasts]] and into the light of a [[FamilyOfChoice new family.]]
* PlotArmour: He doesn't die in the movie even though there's many chances for him to.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Downplayed. Roshan has a crucial role throughout the first movie since it was Manny, Sid, and Diego's goal to return him to his family. However, Roshan has only appeared in one film and it's thanks to his presence that the trio decided to stick together since they got closer, which led to them meeting other members of the Herd.
* SmugSnake: Oscar gives off this vibe, as he tends to act very conceited toward Diego.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: He seems to understand what Manny, Sid, and Diego are saying.
* TokenHuman: And the first movie was the only one that featured humans.

A pair of [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brontotheriidae brontotheres]] angry at Sid for ruining a dandelion they were going to eat.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: Frank is rather effeminate, and their introduction sees him surprising Carl with fresh greens and the only dandelion to survive the frost. It's never explicitly stated that they're together, but the general consensus seems to be that they are.
* AnachronismStew: Brontotheres went extinct some 32 million years before the Ice Age began.
* BitPartBadguys: They are there to make Sid latch on to Manny for protection and friendship after he defeated them.
* TheBusCameBack: Both of them return as the [[DualBoss first boss]] in ''Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure''.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Carl?" "Easy, Frank."
* DisproportionateRetribution: Carl and Frank want to kill Sid because he... ruined their salad, accidentally flicked poop on them, unintentionally insulted them, and stole their impossible-to-find-dandelion.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: They stop their pursuit of Sid when he tries to take cover with Manny and initially simply ask him to step aside so they can grab Sid and go. They’re not willing to pick a fight with a guy who was neutral to their conflict (of course, it's also possible [[PragmaticVillainy they simply recognized that Manny would quickly hand them their butts if things got physical]]). Once Manny decides to stick up for Sid, then they turn hostile towards him.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Carl has a rather deep, booming voice, due to being voiced by Creator/CedricTheEntertainer. Averted with Frank though, who has a higher, slightly effeminate voice.
* InterspeciesFriendship: Possibly, if the shape of their horns is anything to go by, Carl appears to be an ''Embolotherium'' while Frank looks like a ''Megacerops''.
* JerkassHasAPoint: While their reaction to everything mentioned on DisproportionateRetribution was extreme, those are still legitimate reasons to be pissed at Sid.
* KarmaHoudini: They recieve no comeuppance for attempting to kill Sid, apart from being upset that they didn't get to him before Diego did when Sid faked his death in the sabertooth's jaws.
* ManlyGay: They are AmbiguouslyGay, and although Frank is slightly effeminate, Carl is anything but, having a deep voice and being the more firm and composed of the two.
* RedOniBlueOni: Frank is the Red Oni, and Carl is the Blue Oni. Frank is more overtly flamboyant and willing to attack Sid right off the bat, while Carl is more composed and even-tempered.
* RhinoRampage: Technically they are not rhinoceroses, but brontotheres, but otherwise they fit this trope perfectly (they are even referred to as "rhinos" in the film).
* StarterVillain: Though not technically villains, per say, but they are Sid and Manny's first "opponents" in the beginning of the first film.
* YouAllLookFamiliar: All the brontotheres that are seen migrating in the mixed-species herd at the beginning of the movie share the same model as Carl and Frank.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ice Age Animals]]

Prehistoric animals that are featured in the first movie.
----
* AardvarkTrunks: Oddly enough, the aardvarks in this series actually have their mouths below their long noses instead of on the very end of their face, making it look like they have trunks.
* AnachronismStew: While the movies do feature a fair number of actual Pleistocene animals (be they extinct or extant), [[MisplacedWildlife regardless of geography]], they also include multiple species that lived much earlier, going up to the Eocene epoch and even the Mesozoic, despite the series (at least up to the short ''Surviving Sid'') being stated to take place 20,000 years ago.
** ''Gastornis'' died out during the Mid Eocene, 45 million years ago. It did have relatives called dromornithids that survived in Australia as recently as 45,000 years ago.
** Brontotheres and ''Moeritherium'' both died out at the end of the Eocene, 34 million years ago. True rhinos (including the iconic woolly rhino), however, were plentiful in the Pleistocene. The closest thing to ''Moeritherium'' in the Pleistocene, as far as portly, pig-like mammals with a small trunk go, would have been tapirs.
** ''Platybelodon'' died out during the Mid Miocene, circa 14 million years ago. The closest thing to it in the Pleistocene were late-surviving gomphotheres such as ''Cuvieronius'', but by this point, they looked practically identical to true elephants.
** Downplayed with ''Chalicotherium'', who died out during the preceding Pliocene epoch, circa 3.5 mya, but similar knuckle-walking chalicotheres like ''Nestoritherium'' and ''Hesperotherium'' did survive until the Middle Pleistocene.
** There is also a type of flightless, aquatic bird that seems to be based on hesperornithids, who died out at the end of the ''Cretaceous''. The closest equivalent to them during the ice ages (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) would have been the recently extinct great auk.
* DoofyDodo: The dodos could very well be the mascots for TooDumbToLive.
* DubSpeciesChange: In the Polish dub aardvarks are called anteaters, given that [[InformedSpecies they resemble former species more than the latter one]].
* MisplacedWildlife: The dodo birds, ''Macruchenia'' and ''Palaeotherium''. While most animals appearing in the film are based on North American species, dodos, ''Palaeotherium'' and ''Macruchenia'' were restricted to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, Europe and South America.
* MixAndMatchCritters: Quite a few of the animals don't seem to be based on a specific species, especially in the sequels.
** The ardvarks look more like giant anteaters but with the long, rabbit-like ears of ardvarks.
** The glyptodonts sport rodent-like buck teeth.
** The beavers and deer we see in the sequels look like standard beavers and deer, but the former also sport a unicorn-like horn and the latter have a rhino-like nose horn as well as stripes akin to certain types of antelope.
** Another creature introduced in the sequels are the molehogs (Louis's kind), who look like typical hedgehogs but also sport large claws and are fossorial like moles. As hedgehogs and moles are related (both being members of Erinaceota), the former could be seen as a [[HollywoodEvolution fictitious common ancestor of the two]].
** ''Platybelodon'' are elephant relatives but besides having the iconic shovel-like mouth, the ones in the sequels otherwise look more like lanky, long-legged hippos.
* OutOfFocus: For some reason, we do not see any adult brontothere rhinos after the first movie. Only children are seen in the sequels.

A shifty, fast-talking giant armadillo who indulges in HonestJohnsDealership, though he's not particularly good at it.
-----
* AccidentalTruth: One of the many lies he thinks up on the spot is that the world is going to flood, so he can sell [[ReedSnorkel Reed Snorkels]] and floating bark. As it turns out, the ice dam the animals live around is holding back a vast glacial lake and is on the verge of breaking.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Despite being an armadillo, he is designed with a beak and has two-toed feet.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Never appears in the other movies after ''The Meltdown''. He does appear in the ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs'' video game though and owns a shop where players can buy things from.
* ConMan: He always tries to sell the other animals useless junk, but he doesn't have much sway over them and is generally treated as a joke.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: Subverted. When Manny offhandedly says that Fast Tony would sell his own mother for a grape, the armadillo immediately asks him if he's making an offer before catching himself and [[BlatantLies insisting that he would never do that]].
* EveryoneHasStandards: Subverted. Besides being willing to sell his own mother for a grape, when he finds out that his assistant/OnlyFriend Stu has been killed, Tony immediately tries to sell the glyptodont's empty shell as a mobile home to whichever shmuck will buy it.
* MotorMouth: Comes with the territory of being a conman. It's presumably why he's called "Fast Tony".
* OutOfFocus: He appears in a bunch of scenes at the start of the second movie but once Ellie and the possums band together with Manny, Sid, and Diego, Tony disappears from most of the movie and only shows back up at the very end, just to show that he survived the flood.
* ReedSnorkel: He discovered that you can use reeds as snorkels but none of the animals care about his product.

'''Sloth:''' We have one: sacrifice the fire king.\
'''Sid:''' Well, that's not very advanced!\
'''Sloth:''' Worth a shot.
* EasilyForgiven: When they praise Sid, believing he saved the world, he doesn’t hold a grudge against them for trying to sacrifice him.
* WackyWaysideTribe: They are a tribe of sloths who divert Sid from the herd to worship and sacrifice him, but only for a short period of time.

The main antagonists of ''Meltdown''.
----
* AxCrazy: Their demeanour is too manic and violent to be reminiscent of real animals. Just watch Cretaceous go ''berserk'' attacking Manny on an iceberg.
* BigBadDuumvirate: Of the second film. They are hardly ever separated in their stalking, and they target any animal that is within their reach.
* TheBusCameBack: Both of them return as the [[DualBoss second boss]] in [[VideoGame/IceAge ''Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure''.]]
* CarnivoresAreMean: In contrast to the plotting and vengeful Soto, they're simply defrosting predators looking for a bite to eat. How sentient they are is debatable.
* ColdBloodedWhatever: They have a combination of fish-like and reptilian features.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: To Soto in the first movie. Whereas Soto was an Ice Age-era predator who commanded a pack of sabertooth cats and was motivated by revenge, Cretaceous and Maelstrom are [[ReptilesAreAbhorrent reptiles]] from the [[PrehistoricMonster Mesozoic era]] who find themselves in an unfamiliar world after [[HarmlessFreezing being encased in ice for a long time]] and only have each other to rely on, and are largely acting out of predatory instinct who only antagonize the herd in their search for their next meal.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: In the film, they get crushed to death by a large rock. In the storybook, they are eaten by vultures after washing up on land due to the flood receding.
* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation: Either this or DeathByAdaptation if ''Scrat's Nutty Adventure'' is canon. In the film, they're apparently crushed by a large rock, but in the illustrated storybook they're eaten by vultures after washing up on land due to the flood receding. The ''Essential Guide'' and ''The Great Escape'' add a third possibility in a throwaway gag claiming they ended up as "good sushi" for the mini-sloths.
* EyeAwaken: Cretaceous shifts his eyes to look at the camera while still frozen in an iceberg near the start of the film.
* FragileSpeedster: Cretaceous is the smaller of the two and is quite quick and maneuverable, and the only one who can move on land, which he briefly does to try to attack Manny on an iceberg.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Intentionally exploited by Manny in ''Meltdown's'' climax -- menaced by Cretaceous and Malestrom and unable to remove the rocks behind which Ellie is trapped, he uses the duo's strength against them by tricking them into lunging for him, then getting out of the way so that they smash into the log that's wedged between the rocks with full force. This both frees Ellie and causes a boulder to fall onto the two villains, ending their threat for good.
* InformedSpecies: Cretaceous and Maelstrom are officially identified as unspecified species of ichthyosaur and pliosaur respectively. They certainly don't look the parts.
** Cretaceous pays very little resemblance to an ichthyosaur, instead looking more like a (highly stylized and fanciful) depiction of a metriorhynchid sea crocodile (and is even identified as one in the online game ''Ice Age Village''), due to his very crocodilian-like snout, though his osteoderms, crocodile-like front limbs, and terrestrial habits are still pure artistic license, as metriorynchids were fully marine animals that lacked osteoderms and their limbs had evolved into flippers (like in most other marine reptiles). To say nothing of his very piscine back sail and tail fin.
** Maelstrom is even worse in this regard, as he looks absolutely nothing like a pliosaur; specifically lacking the elongated, crocodile-like head and two pairs of massive flippers pliosaurs are known for, instead sporting a very short, blunt head and very small flippers, and instead of using his flippers to propel himself, he swims by ungulating his body up and down. The latter would also be impossible for any marine reptile, since reptiles can only bend their spine side to side (hence why non-plesiosaur marine reptiles swam like fish instead of like cetaceans).
* ItCanThink: Though they never speak, they clearly glare, grin and snarl at the animals they're hunting with purpose. Cretaceous in particular seems to take sadistic glee in going after Manny.
* JustDesserts: Two reasons as to how they died were that they were either eaten by the vultures lead by Lone Gunslinger or were made into "good sushi" by the mini-sloths.
* KnightOfCerebus: They are portrayed as dead serious killers. They have a very creepy leitmotif, kill a minor character, and when the flood comes, they're given serious gravitas as they surge towards the end of the valley, the mammals now in their element.
* MightyGlacier: Maelstrom, the larger of the two, sporting a thick chunky build that lets him smash through thick ice and drag Manny down into the depths near the end of the movie.
* MonsterInTheIce: They were sealed in ice for ages, only to be released as the Ice Age's glaciers begin to melt.
* NeverSmileAtACrocodile: Cretaceous certainly evokes this, resembling a crocodile with some piscine traits and even being able to haul himself on land (or ice) to attack his prey. Online game ''Ice Age Village'' even identifies him as a metriorhynchid (a group of fully aquatic marine crocodiles from the Mesozoic).
* PlotIrrelevantVillain: They are brought with the new tide and feast on whoever is unlucky enough to encounter them without a plan. They more or less represent the dangers of the new changing environment, being predators of another time. The herd run into them coincidentally only twice, having other things to concern themselves for the rest of the film.
* PrehistoricMonster: They come from the Mesozoic era and they are mostly characterized as violent, voracious monsters.
* SeaMonster: [[http://iceage.wikia.com/wiki/Cretaceous Cretaceous]] is a stylized [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichthyosaur Icthyosaur]] (a dolphin-like reptile) / [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metriorhynchidae Metriorhynchid]] (a fully aquatic marine crocodile), and [[http://iceage.wikia.com/wiki/Maelstrom Maelstrom]] is a stylized [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pliosaur Pliosaur]] (short-necked plesiosaur).
* SuperPersistentPredator: PlayedWith in that while they menace Manny and friends twice, they do prey on whatever other animals they can find.
* SilentAntagonist: Neither of them ever utter a word and only make animalistic growls.
* UncertainDoom: In the film, they're last seen getting pushed into the depths by a large rock. It's not clear if they were crushed by the rock, if they drowned since they still need air to breathe or if the flood receding killed them via stranding them on the shore. If ''Scrat's Nutty Adventure'' is canon, then [[KarmaHoudini they lived]].

A vulture that warns the prehistoric animals about the meltdown.
----
* AffablyEvil: Very chatty for someone who wishes that his co-speaker dies so that he can eat him and will help it happen.
* AllThereInTheScript: His name "The Lone Gunslinger" is provided in the film credits.
* BearerOfBadNews: After Manny fails to convince the others that the flood threat is real, he confirms it.
* BrutalHonesty: He gleefully remarks that the more animals die in the flood, the more he has to eat.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has a snide and fairly dark sense of humor.
* ExactWords:
-->'''Lone Gunslinger:''' There is some good news, though: the more of you die, the better I eat.\
'''Crowd:''' ''[gasp]''\
'''Lone Gunslinger:''' [[LampshadeHanging I didn't say it was good news for you!]]
* FeatheredFiend: Creepy and always reminding the animals that he'll eat them if they die.
* HiddenDepths: Not only are he and his brood apparently quite fond of showtunes, but they're delightful singers and dancers too!
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He and his kin constantly talk about how much they'd love to eat the main characters, are snide, love heckling the "food" and are generally unpleasant. On the other hand he wasn't lying about the "boat" at the end of the valley, and the vultures guide the animals safely through honestly - and rush them onboard when the flood is about to happen... though they have no problem eating the ones that don't make it.
* JustDesserts: In the Illustrated Storybook, he's implied to end up eating Cretaceous and Maelstrom.
* NonIndicativeName: He isn't actually a gunslinger, obviously. And since he travels with a herd, he's not alone either.
* NothingPersonal: While his remark about happily eating anyone who doesn't survive the flood is a bit brutal, it's not really out of malice. It's just a scavenger being a scavenger.
* PetTheDog: See above and below. That and he's briefly accompanied by two vultures who are implied to be his wife and kid, suggesting that he's a bit of a family man.
* PragmaticVillainy: Rather than let all the animals die in the flood and just take their pick when it's done (which would probably be wasteful anyway), the vultures are content with leading them through the valley and taking their pick of those who die along the way.
* VileVulture: Again, an AffablyEvil vulture who looks forward to devour the corpses of our heroes and anybody else getting drowned in the meltdown.
* VillainSong: "Food, Glorious Food", an absolutely hilarious one.

* AccidentalHero: He sneeks up on and scares off a little aardvark named James as a joke, who was blowing bubbles at the water's edge. If he hadn't done that, [[DeathOfAChild James would have likely shared Stu's fate]].
* DesecratingTheDead: Mere seconds after Stu's death, Fast Tony tries to sell his empty shell as a mobile home and is later seen using it as a pedestal and a raft.
* TheDitz: He's clearly not the brightest glyptodont. While giving a demonstration for Fast Tony's ReedSnorkel, he puts it in his nose instead of his mouth and is later shown doing the same thing when goes for a swim ([[EatenAlive and dies]]).
* GoofyBuckteeth: He is a dim-witted glyptodont with big front teeth.
* GoryDiscretionShot: He's submerged underwater with only his snorkel visible when Cretaceous and Maelstorm pull him under, but the empty shell that gets found by Fast Tony makes it abundantly clear what happened.
* OnlyFriend: He seems to have been this to Fast Tony, [[LackOfEmpathy not that the armadillo is particularly upset about Stu's demise]].
* RedShirt: He gets eaten by Cretaceous and Maelstrom while playing around with his boss' ReedSnorkel, to showcase that the defrosted sea reptiles don't play around.
* SimpletonVoice: It's very evident from his dopey voice that there isn't much going on up there.

A ''Chalicotherium'' that makes a brief cameo in the second film but has a bigger role in ''The Great Egg-Scapade''.
----
* AnachronisticAnimal: Downplayed. Though ''Chalicotherium'' died out during the Pliocene, related knuckle-walking chalicotheres such as ''Nestoritherium'' did survive long enough to see the ice ages.
* AscendedExtra: He only appears for a few seconds in ''The Meltdown'' but has a more prominent role in the video game adaption and is made into a supporting character in the Easter special.
* FourLegsGoodTwoLegsBetter: He's usually shown as a biped instead of walking on his knuckles like an actual ''Chalicotherium''.
* {{Gasshole}}: In the second movie, he's depicted as having major flatulence issues (in his own words, his stomach hates him) but he seems to have gotten better by the time of the Easter special.
* InconsistentColoring: Has gray fur in his first appearance, but in the Easter special, his fur is brown.
* InterspeciesAdoption: In ''The Great Egg-Scapade'', he has adopted a baby bird that is about to hatch from its egg, and it's one of the eggs stolen by Squint.
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: How he's depicted in ''The Great Egg-Scapade'', being very gentle, soft-spoken, and [[OneOfTheGirls all his best friends are mothers]].
* MixAndMatchCritters: Comes with being a chalicothere. In the video game version of the second film, Cholly himself doesn't know what kind of animal he is, though most peg him as some sort of bear (chalicotheres are actually odd-toed ungulates).
* NonIndicativeName: Is referred to as "Cholly Bear" in the credits of the Easter special, even though ''Chalicotheriums'' have no relation to bears besides being mammals.

[[quoteright:182:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scrattes_acorn_2.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Karen Disher

Scratte {pronounced "Scrat-tae" in the trailers} is a female sabre-toothed squirrel that makes her debut in the third film. She is seen in the second trailer with Scrat battling with her for the acorn by propelling themselves down a gorge to reach the fallen acorn, and succeeding. Scratte is also seen as a LoveInterest for Scrat. Throughout numerous conflicts, the two fall in love, but Scrat ultimately returns to his old ways. At the end of the film, Scratte is left in the dinosaurs' jungle while Scrat returns back to the surface.
----
* CrocodileTears: When Scrat first takes the acorn from her, she starts weeping, making Scrat feel guilty. However, this is just a means to lower his guard so she can snatch the acorn back from him.
* DubNameChange: In Portuguese, she is named ''Scratita''.
* FemmeFatale: She seduces Scrat by using her rump.
* HartmanHips: She has broad hips and a plump bottom to emphasize her femininity.
* HoistByTheirOwnPetard: Subverted. After she used her flight ability to outsmart Scrat in the beginning when they fall off a cliff, [[spoiler:Scrat activates her "wings" and lets the wind take her downwards when they get blasted into the air, leaving him alone with the acorn and her stuck underground]]. However, [[spoiler:the acorn gets knocked underground with Scratte anyway]].
* HumanoidFemaleAnimal: Downplayed. She strongly resembles Scrat, but her body shape and made-up appearance make her resemble a human more strongly.
* IAmNotLefthanded: Gets away with Scrat's acorn by hiding the fact that she's a ''flying squirrel'' until they're falling off a cliff and she's the only one who can escape.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She tries to take Scrat's acorn, but deep down, she's actually very sweet and loving. This is evidenced by her falling in love with Scrat. Like Scrat, she might've had feelings for him the whole time, but tried to hide it and focus on the acorn instead, until her heart of gold fully emerges when Scrat saves her from dying.
* LoveInterest: Scrat falls for her during the third movie.
* MaleGaze: Both in universe and out: Scrat and the camera focuse many times intently on Scratte's big butt as she sways it.
* PutOnABus: She was left in the dinosaurs' jungle by the end of ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs'' and hasn't physically appeared since.
* ScrewballSquirrel: Scratte flirts with Scrat just to screw him over and steal his acorn.
* TheSpeechless: Like Scrat, she doesn't speak, but she makes vocal sounds such as screams, grunts, whimpers, and laughs.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: Her 'eyeshadow' makes her appear more feminine.

A female ''Tyrannosaurus rex''. She abducts the ground sloth Sid from his herd on the surface when he took her eggs that she temporarily left, only to raise the hatchlings alongside the sloth later on, down in the lost world.
----
* AnimalsNotToScale: [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrannosaurus#/media/File:Tyrannosaurus_specimens.svg ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' was certainly big]], but Momma Dino is much larger, completely dwarfing the mammoths. In WesternAnimation/TheIceAgeAdventuresOfBuckWild'', Manny and Ellie hitch a ride by clinging to her legs ''respectively. [[NeverTrustAPoster Though surprisingly]], she's actually a bit more modestly sized in the movie than she is on the [[https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1080016/mediaviewer/rm3967587840/ posters]].
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler: She shows up at the last minute to save Sid from Rudy, who she throws off a cliff.]] Sid even shouts "WAY TO GO MOMZILLA!" T. Rexes really have a habit of [[Film/JurassicPark saving the day at the last minute.]]
* BrawnHilda: She's big, aggressive, and not at all feminine.
* TheBusCameBack: She makes a comeback in WesternAnimation/TheIceAgeAdventuresOfBuckWild and gets reunited with the herd. Given how much time has passed in-universe between ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs'' and this film, Momma Dino and the herd hadn’t seen each other in a long time, and her own kids likely grew up and left her at that point (explaining their absence in the movie).
* DefrostingIceQueen: Momma initially attempted to eat Sid but her children stood up to her and convinced her to let him live. Later, she lifted Sid into the cave that she and her children were using to hide from Rudy and Sid stated that she was actually a "softie" despite being a predator.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Even if she is a gigantic carnivorous dinosaur, she knows to leave the scene whenever Rudy is close by. [[spoiler: This does not make her weak though, as she actually defeats Rudy to save Sid by pushing him off a cliff]].
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: She and Sid act like this when they're fighting about how the baby dinos should be raised.
* MamaBear:
** Was prepared to tear the upper world apart just to rescue her three babies.
** She eventually gained a protective streak for Sid.
* NeverTrustAPoster: Much of the promotional materials make her seem like she's the main antagonist, but she's actually a DefrostingIceQueen and the real threat is Rudy.
* NoNameGiven: Her real name was never said. The closest she gets to a name is "Mama T" from Buck and Z.
* PrehensileTail: She uses the tip of her tail to turn around a slab of rock Sid is standing on. Later, she uses it to grab Sid and bring him into the cave she and her kids are sleeping in.
* ShoutOut: She follows the rule set forth by ''Film/JurassicPark'' in that she can't see her prey if it doesn't move.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Although Sid described Momma as being a "horrifying dinosaur" (which she didn't seem impressed by), she had a softer side since.
* TheVoiceless: All she does is growl and roar. Sid even gets upset that she doesn't "talk" to him about their issues.
* UnnamedParent: She does not really have a name. Even Buck and Zee refer to her as "Mama T".
* WorfHadTheFlu: In ''Adventures of Buck Wild'', she is an indomitable ally against Orson’s army - or she would have been, if she didn’t have a bad toothache.
* YourAnswerToEverything: Sid thinks her growling at him when he tries to raise the baby T. Rexes always answers everything.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_091.jpeg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Carlos Saldanha

The three baby dinos named Egbert, Shelly and Yoko are baby tyrannosaurus rexs which were adopted by Sid, a Ground Sloth. They are all voiced by director Carlos Saldanha. Sid stole the eggs from their mother (having found them alone, thinking they were abandoned) and hatched them himself . He was later taken away by Momma, their mother, for stealing her children. After being raised by Sid, they have an unusual behavior as a result of not being brought up by a dinosaur such as mimicking Sid and dancing.
----
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: While their mother makes a comeback in WesternAnimation/TheIceAgeAdventuresOfBuckWild, they are nowhere to be seen. Given how much time had passed between that film and ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs'', they likely grew up and left their mother.
* {{Imprinting}}: After hatching out of their eggs, they immediately call Sid their mama and treat him as such. Once they are taken by their real mother to the underground dinosaur world, they slowly but surely grow more attached to her while still caring about Sid.
* MeaningfulName: Their names refer to how Sid first adopted them when they were eggs.
* ObliviousAdoption: Justified by imprinting. Sid was the first thing they saw when they hatched.
* RuleOfThree: Three dinosaurs.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl: Egbert and Yoko are boys while Shelly is a girl.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rudy.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Randy Thorn

A gigantic male albino ''Baryonyx'' who is feared by all creatures and dinosaurs in the lost world- except for Buck. This scaly white beast is the major villain in the third film and he’s a '''big''' boy. Stalking around not far from the herd throughout their journey until his climatic confrontation.
----
* ArtisticLicensePaleontology: Real-life ''Baryonyx'' were much smaller than ''Tyrannosaurus rex''. Rudy, on the other hand, towers over Momma. In addition, Rudy is shown to have a number of overlapping teeth, not unlike a crocodile, whereas the real ''Baryonyx'' had an overbite, like all other spinosaurids. His thumb claws also aren't noticeably larger than his other hand claws. In other words, he's lacking the feature that got his genus its name in the first place (''Baryonyx'' means "heavy claw").
* BigBad: He's the ultimate villain of the third film, and he goes out of his way to wreck everybody's day ForTheEvulz.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: While a prehistoric reptilian predator, Rudy has some traits that make him this to Cretaceous and Maelstrom from the previous movie. Rudy is a land-based carnivore instead of an aquatic one and seems to possess a [[ItCanThink higher level of sapience]] given his grudge against Buck for knocking out one of his teeth and his malicious grin when he believes he has crushed Buck to death. Furthermore, while Cretaceous and Maelstrom were creatures nobody in the Ice Age expected to deal with due to having been frozen alive before the sequel took place, Rudy was an apex predator in his world and TheDreaded towards its inhabitants based on the expression of Momma Dino when she hears his roar. What's also noteworthy is that he's the only villain in the franchise to work completely independently (Soto, Gutt, and Gavin were leaders of their respective band of rogues and Cretaceous and Maelstrom were partners).
* DisneyVillainDeath: Gets pushed off the edge of the cliff by Momma Rex. Subverted in that he survives.
* TheDreaded: Even Momma T-Rex is afraid of him.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Rudy has yellow eyeballs with red irises.
* ItsPersonal: Rudy recognizes Buck's knife as his old tooth.
* IWorkAlone: The only villain in the ''Ice Age'' franchise to act singlehandedly.
* MonsterDelay: Somewhat {{exaggerated}}. Throughout most of the film, we only vaguely see his hands, [[RedEyesTakeWarning glowing red eyes]], legs, feet, and foggy silhouette during the [[DarknessEqualsDeath dead of night]], and it's only during the climactic confrontation that we finally fully see him during broad daylight, no less.
* NeverSmileAtACrocodile: Being a spinosaurid, he has a few crocodile-like features regarding his face and is a monstrous beast.
* NotQuiteDead: Presumed dead after his fall at the end of the movie, but it turns out he survived.
* PlotIrrelevantVillain: Like the sea reptiles before him, he is not seen speaking or planning, so he can't be much more than this.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: A red-eyed dangerous dinosaur -- also TruthInTelevision, as almost all albino animals have red eyes.
* RedRightHand: His missing tooth.
* SavageSpinosaurs: A giant ''Baryonyx'' that is feared by all, with the signature crocodilian head that spinosaurids are known. It also gets to fight a ''[[SpinosaurusVersusTRex T. rex]]''.
* TheVoiceless: Is only ever heard roaring.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: His most recent appearance was a small cameo in ''Continental Drift'' alongside Buck. For some reason, he is conspicuously absent in ''Adventures of Buck Wild''. Buck doesn't even talk about Rudy at all in the film despite being fixated on fighting him throughout ''Dawn Of The Dinosaurs''.

A neutral pterosaur that Buck uses in the climax.
----
* ArtisticLicensePaleontology: She's a pretty standard cartoon-y pterosaur. Probably the only accurate quality to him is that she walks on all fours.
* GenderBlenderName: The video game suggests that Roger is female, when Buck refers to it as “girl”.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: When Buck asked about having kids.
* TheVoiceless: The rule rather than the exception with prehistoric creatures.

An aggressive, dangerous group of ten blue and orange pterosaurs that lurked around Lava Falls.
----
* AerialCanyonChase: Their prey leads them into a long desolate ravine connected to lava falls where the real action begins.
* ArtisticLicensePaleontology: While more accurate than Roger, they still lack pycnofibres and have only one claw on each wing (most real pterosaurs had three), [[TerrorDactyl not to mention being improbably aggressive]].
* ClipItsWings: Many of them have their wings hit by Crash and Eddie's unorthodox ammuntion.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: The last four pterosaurs chasing the main characters when leaving the canyon are killed off later by not being able to pull up quick enough and instead crashing into the hot, lethal lava falls.
* DeathFromAbove: They appear as a group high above the main characters before going in to attack.
* EdibleAmmunition: Berries are used by the possums to knock five of the pterosaurs out of the air, one pterosaur even gets to eat one.
* ItCanThink: The pack are able to communicate to each other via screeches, synchronize into formations and use impressive maneuvers. All of which is done flawlessly.
* OldSchoolDogfight: It's obvious the filmmakers intended to make it like traditional dogfight when the pterosaurs themselves make ww2 plane sounds with their movements. Even Crash and Eddie use a few military terms when confronting the predators.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Four of the remaining pterosaurs pass by this object completely unfazed but still move (rather slightly) to avoid crashing into it.

----
* EpicFail: Attempts to intimidate his prey via screeching as he flies up to them. But his own shrill, instinctive scare tactic backfires on him hard, [[LivingGasBag leaving him extremely bloated with gas]] instead.
* FreakOut: He helplessly flaps his stubby wings in panic after his downfall, unable to comprehend what just happened to him and desperately tries to fly away out of his ''new form''.
* NonIndicativeName: Birdie is not a bird, he's a pterosaur. [[AllFlyersAreBirds Pterosaurs in most media like him are often mistaken for a type of prehistoric bird simply because they can fly.]]
* SuperPersistentPredator: Unlike the others, he was more confrontational to eat Crash and Eddie.
* UncertainDoom: Left as a [[spoiler: giant, gas filled, floating, living balloon, it’s unknown if he ever deflated back to normal, if he popped or died stuck in that way]].

Small, creepy, pack-hunting theropods that live around the Plates of Woe.
----
* ArtisticLicensePaleontology: In terms of anatomy, they are fairly accurate (if stylized) but they still lack proper plumage, and instead have quill-like structures on their necks and backs that [[RuleOfScary help them make a rattling noise]]. Real ''Guanlong'' almost certainly had a full coat of hair-like proto-feathers, based on close relatives like ''Dilong'' and ''Yutyrannus''.
* ConflictKiller: They pose a major threat to Ellie while she is in labor, forcing Manny and Diego to put aside their differences and work together, which helps to strengthen their friendship again.
* DisneyVillainDeath: Many of them perish via being knocked off cliffs. Mostly by Diego
* DumbDinos: Seemingly subverted, as they are shown to be smart enough to utilize the bizarre geography of the Plates of Woe to trap and kill their prey. It’s consistent with their fellow carnivores Momma Dino and Rudy also showing sapience.
* RaptorAttack: They play the role usually reserved for dromaeosaurs in media, as the small carnivorous dinosaurs that attack in droves. Ironically, they are much more closely related to T. rex!
* ZergRush: They utilize that in order to fight Manny, while Diego bonks, kicks and knocks down one after the other as the rest of the pack tries to swarm Ellie.

The first threat to be encountered by the herd in the Lost World.
----
* AlwaysABiggerFish: It might be a big and scary beast who sends two mammoths running, but like most of the dinos, it's utterly terrified of [[TheDreaded Rudy]], as seen during the climax.
* ArtisticLicensePaleontology: Mostly for RuleOfScary purposes. It's substantially larger than the real animal to the point of dwarfing two ''mammoths'', has rounded teeth in place of a beak, and like many depictions its armour resembles a spiky, turtle-like shell whereas the real animal simply had rows of osteoderms embedded into toughened skin. It also has morningstar-style spikes adorning its tail club, not unlike the glyptodont ''Doedicurus''.
** In a commercial for licensed [=McDonald's=] toys based on the third movie, Manny incorrectly identifies the ''Ankylosaurus'' as a carnivore.
* BewareMyStingerTail: As to be expected from an ankylosaur. Diego saves Crash and Eddie in the nick of time from being flattened.
* HerbivoresAreFriendly: Completely averted, as it attacks the heroes the moment they enter the Lost World, tries to crush them with its tail-club, and even snaps its jaws at them (modern herbivores such as ungulates will also bite when they are threatened or on the offense).
* MightyRoar: When Diego confronts it, it's quick to show the sabretooth that it has a far stronger set of pipes.
* ToothyBird: Instead of a beak like a real ankylosaur, it has a mouth full of stubby teeth.
* ToughArmoredDinosaur: It's both tough and very, very ornery, being able to scare Diego by simply roaring at him.
* WhosLaughingNow: When Manny, Diego, and Sid run after Rudy to help Buck, Diego spots the ''Ankylosaurus'' hiding and whimpering at the sight of the giant ''Baryonyx'', prompting Diego to call it a "wuss".
* XenophobicHerbivore: It attacks the herd for no apparent reason other than tresspassing on its territory.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dinosaurs of the Lost World]]
* AdaptationalBadass: ''Troodon'' appear as a more serious threat in the [[VideoGame/IceAge video game]].
* AnimalsNotToScale: Almost all of them are much larger than their real-life counterparts. It includes the smaller ones, like the ''Archaeopteryx'', which is the same size as Sid, while its real-life counterpart was only the size of a magpie. The one exception is the ''Guanlong''.
* ArtisticLicensePaleontology: The ''Kentrosaurus'' are shown to be facultative bipeds akin to hadrosaurs, while the real animal was an obligate quadruped, like all stegosaurs. Their necks are also far too long, even taking a stylized design into account.
* BlackComedy: The death of the ''Archaeopteryx''.
* DumbDinos: Played with. All of them act more primeval and animalistic than the mammals, but their body language and facial expressions do show that they are somewhat sapient, especially the carnivores such as Momma Dino and Rudy. The ''Brachiosaurus'', however, play this trope straight, being depicted as brainless, walking mountains of meat who don’t even register two ''mammoths'' using them as slides. Ditto for the ''Troodons'', which are portrayed for the most part as goofy and clumsy [[ScavengersAreScum scavengers]] (somewhat ironically, given that troodontids are commonly stereotyped as among the smartest dinosaurs).
* GentleGiant: The ''Brachiosaurus'' is the only dino not to try to harm the gang.
* GoofyFeatheredDinosaur: The ''Archaeopteryx'' is a ButtMonkey who [[SillyAnimalSound clucks like a chicken]] and gets served as life prey by Momma Dino to her kids but Sid objects (wanting the kids to be [[VegetarianCarnivore vegetarians]] instead) and throws it off a cliff, expecting it to fly. Except it can’t and promptly gets eaten by a pterosaur (which is ArtisticLicensePaleontology, as ''Archaeopteryx'' is believed to have been capable of ''some kind'' of aerial movement, be it simple gliding or full-on powered flight).
* TheVoiceless: None of them ever speak. They possibly can't talk, or perhaps have a different language.

Captain of the pirate crew that are the Herd's main foes in the 4th movie.
----
* ActorAllusion: In the Polish dub, he's voiced by Zbigniew Konopka who already voiced a KillerGorilla, namely Bada from ''WesternAnimation/ThePenguinsOfMadagascar''.
* AnimeHair: You know how it looks like he's wearing a Tricorner hat? That's his hair.
* ArchEnemy: To Manny, after he not only manages to escape him, but steal his ship meant to replace the first one.
* BadBoss: He's rather cruel to his crew. He regularly abuses Flynn when he annoys him and threatens to kill Shira when she failed to kill Manny. When Manny destroys his ship, he seems to be more concerned with his ship and bounty than the safety of most of his crew considering he didn’t bother searching for his first-mate Shira.
* BigBad: Of ''Continental Drift''.
* BigfootSasquatchAndYeti: Gigantopithecus is probably best known for its hypothesized relationship to those myths and legends. In that many think either its fossils or still extant members inspired the stories.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: Gutt is noticeably the first main antagonist since Soto the first film to be both a malevolent Ice Age-era mammal and the leader of a group of equally-villainous creatures, as the {{Big Bad}}s of the last two movies were predatory reptilian animals who, while persistent, where merely acting on instinct, while both Soto and Gutt were acting on personal motives. However, while Soto at least had the benefit of a FreudianExcuse due to wanting revenge on the humans who wiped out half his pack (and even then, it seemed more out of wounded pride than care for his fallen pack mates), Gutt from the start proves to be selfish, greedy, and doesn't care for anyone but himself. While Soto commanded an all-male pack of male sabertooth cats like himself, Gutt's pirate crew consisted of animals of [[EqualOpportunityEvil different species and genders]]. What's even more noteworthy is the fact that Gutt is the only villain in the franchise to be an omnivorous mammal while the villains of the other films were all carnivores.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: He is easily the biggest offender of this in the franchise. [[spoiler:He ''outright gets eaten alive by a siren, with other sirens seemingly coming in to enjoy their feast'']].
* TheDeterminator: He ''will'' get his revenge on Manny. Consequences be damned. Even if he has to resort to [[spoiler:attempting to kill Manny's family just to get back at him.]]
* DressedToPlunder: Despite not wearing clothes, he has fur groomed to look like he is wearing a tricorn hat and a long coat.
* DualWielding: Is shown wield two swords that seem to be made out of jaw bones.
* EqualOpportunityEvil: Gutt leads a pirate crew where each member is a different species.
* EvilIsHammy: As one would expect from the only Ice Age villain ever to have a VillainSong.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Comes with the territory of being voiced by Creator/PeterDinklage.
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: [[spoiler:Getting eaten alive by sirens]] is far too brutal for a kids film.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Depending on the scene and person he's talking to.
* InformedSpecies: Although Gutt is meant to be a Gigantopithecus, an ape more closely related to orangutans, he looks more like an oversized chimpanzee. The black fur probably doesn't help either.
* {{Irony}}: Calls himself "The Master of the Seas", [[spoiler:but ends up getting killed by Sirens[[note]]Although a single Siren pulled Gutt into its clam, 1 or 2 back-fins belonging to other Sirens can be seen near the clam, suggesting they intend to join their brethren in feasting on their latest victim [[/note]], denizens of the seas he claims mastery over.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: Downplayed, as the film remains pretty light and he doesn't drain the comedy from a scene, but Gutt is the first true antagonist of the series since Soto. He's even worse than Soto as he does what he does for greed, power, and revenge, whereas Soto wanted to avenge his fallen packmates. Due to the resources he commands, he's also a much more powerful threat than Soto was.
* KillerGorilla: A gigantic, malevolent ape. Not a gorilla though, but a Gigantopithecus, a prehistoric relative of the orangutan.
* LightningBruiser: He's strong, fast and very agile. If Manny didn't have the reflexes to use his tusks to block Gutt's swords, Manny would be ''gutted'' a lot earlier. He's strong enough to ''force apart a huge block of ice in order to make a new ship.''
* ManiacMonkeys: He’s a Gigantopithecus, which makes him a BIG monkey (well, actually an ape. [[Literature/DiscWorld Apes aren't monkeys, and you should never get them confused.]]).
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: According to him, he earned his name by gutting his victims.
-->'''Manny:''' "Captain Gutt?" ''[chuckles]'' Really? I have a little paunch too, but I wouldn't name myself after it.\
'''Gutt:''' ''[laughs mockingly]'' That's funny. You're a funny guy. But that's not how I got my name. ''[brandishes claws]'' ''THESE'' got me my name!
* NeverMyFault: He swears revenge against Manny for costing him his first ship and his "bounty", and later, Shira's loyalty. This is despite the fact that he attacked Manny and his group first, planning to kill them (and the ship was destroyed during their escape), and that Shira wouldn't have betrayed him if he hadn't abandoned her in the first place (not to mention he physically assaulted and demoted her for not killing Manny).
* RedBaron: The "Master of the Seas".
* {{Revenge}}: Against Manny [[spoiler:for sinking his ship and stealing his replacement one.]]
-->'''Gutt:''' That mammoth has taken my ship, my bounty, and now the loyalty of my crew! I will '''''destroy''''' him! And ''everything he loves!''
** Gutt later [[spoiler:beats Manny and the gang to the continent and takes Ellie & Peaches hostage.]]
-->'''Manny:''' Okay! Let them go!\
'''Gutt:''' ''[[[EvilLaugh chuckles darkly]]]'' I don't think so. You destroyed ''everything I had''! I'm just ''returning the favor''.
* ASinisterClue: Every time he fights, he can be seen using his sword with his left hand.
* SlasherSmile: His default expression.
* SwordfishSabre: His weapon of choice is a sword made of the skull of a sawfish.
* TalkLikeAPirate: To a fairly mild extent, but still noticeable.
* VillainousBreakdown: After Manny steals his ship, Gutt is so furious, it's quite obvious he's lost a ''HUGE'' amount of his sanity. He later [[spoiler:beats Manny and the gang to the continent and takes Ellie & Peaches hostage]], stating that Manny took everything he had from him, and the evil ape intended to do the same.
** Later during the battle when [[spoiler:Precious vanquishes his crew, only Gutt dodges them, now not caring about his crew.]] Then he [[spoiler:attempts to kill Ellie, but not before Peaches kicks him to the wall.]] Finally losing what's left of his sanity, Gutt then [[spoiler:blocks Manny's path to return to his family, just as a landmass sends both of them hundreds of feet high.]]
* VillainSong: The only main villain in the Ice Age movies to sing one, called "Master of the Seas".
* WouldHurtAChild: Utterly willing to [[spoiler:hold a dagger to poor Peaches -- just to get even with her father -- and would've killed her then and there had it not been for Louis.]]

A group of piratical animals that serve Captain Gutt, consisting of Squint, a psychotic rabbit, Raz, a tough Australian kangaroo, Flynn, a dim-witted English elephant seal, Gupta, a cowardly Indian badger, Silas, a smug blue-footed booby from France, and Dobson, a mute boar and formerly Shira.
----
* AffablyEvil: Despite being one of the villains of the movie, as well as a complete buffoon, Flynn the elephant seal is arguably the most approachable and likable member of Gutt's crew.
* AxCrazy: The whole lot of them do enjoy their job, but Squint ''really'' likes it.
* BadassCrew: Not only could they effortlessly capture Manny, Sid and Diego, but they're later seen with the ''entire herd'' of background characters hostage. Just several mammals were enough to overpower a herd of animals who dwarfed half of their own.
* BadOlBadger: Gupta. This badger is a fierce pirate and a really tough fighter, even having the traditional skull and crossbones symbol on his back.
* BerserkButton: Squint hates being called cute. Ditto for calling him the EasterBunny.
* BigFun: Flynn, one of the film's most hilarious characters, and an appropriately obese elephant seal.
* BoxingKangaroo: Raz is crew's weaponry expert, and [[BloodKnight she really enjoys her job]].
* ButtMonkey: There’s a gag where the pirates are celebrating their success. Flynn has food but it gets stolen and claims someone took his booty. This shows him bouncing with two large buttocks on his back and everyone laughing at him.
%%* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Flynn is this in spades.
* ClothingAppendage: Silas has what appears to be a red skull cap bandana on his head covered in white spots, but they are just his natural feathers.
* DragonAscendant: In "The Great Egg-scapade", Squint returns and becomes the BigBad of the short.
* DressedToPlunder: Several of the crew were designed to look like they're wearing clothes.
* FatIdiot: Flynn. For example, the herd would've never found the way back [[NiceJobFixingItVillain if Flynn hadn't revealed it]].
* FeatheredFiend: Silas. He's a haughty FrenchJerk who works for Gutt and opposes the heroes, so it's pretty obvious where his alignment is.
* FrenchJerk: Silas, due to hailing from the south of France.
* FlatCharacter: Raz, Dobson, Silas, and Gupta. They don't do much besides serve as either Gutt's muscle or the crew's pets.
* FullBoarAction: Dobson is a brutish boar who is strong enough to knock down Shira and even Manny!
* {{Hammerspace}}: Raz is capable of storing many weapons in her pouch. She is even able to store ''large spears'' without having them poke out.
* HairRaisingHare: Squint. An AxCrazy rabbit who could give ''Buck'' a run for his money, he ''loves'' working for Gutt and is pretty keen on slicing and dicing whatever he sees.
* IOweYouMyLife: Apparently, they were all "wayward souls" before Gutt rescued them. In response, they joined his crew and pledged their lives to him.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Flynn, who is frankly too stupid to really realize what's going on, and doesn't have a malicious bone in his blubbery body - if anything, he seems to have fallen in with a bad crowd.
* {{Jerkass}}: All of them have various degrees of jerkishness (with the arguable exception of [[MinionWithAnFinEvil Flynn]]), but Squint is easily the worst of them.
* LightningBruiser: Besides Gutt, Dobson counts as well. He's instrumental in herding Manny and Shira into a corner by simply ramming into them.
* MadeOfIron: Given the cartoony nature of the series, Squint survives a severe squashing from the 9 ton Ellie.
* MeaningfulName: Squint is often seen deviously squinting.
* MonstrousSeal: Subverted. Flynn is a large elephant seal and part of a pirate crew, but he's an IneffectualSympatheticVillain who's too goofy to actually be monstrous.
* MultinationalTeam: American accented ''Gigantopithecus'', rabbit and sabertoothed tiger (before Shira's HeelFaceTurn), Australian ''Procoptodon'', French blue-footed booby, British elephant seal and Indian badger. Dobson nationality is uknown.
* OnlyKnownByHisNickname: Raz is [[http://jakepanian.blogspot.com.br/2012/08/art-of-ice-age.html apparently]] short for Rasmussen.
* ParrotPetPosition: Silas has a habit of this, being the resident bird.
* RankUp: Squint becomes the new first mate after Gutt considered Shira a failure when she did not kill Manny when she had the chance. Squint smugly rubs his new position in Shira’s face immediately after his ascension.
* RememberedICouldFly: Flynn needs to be reminded that he's a sea animal and can swim.
* SoleSurvivor: By the end of the film and not counting Shira, Flynn appears to be this, with Gutt having been [[spoiler:eaten alive by sirens and the rest of the crew being blasted by high-pressure and high-speed water into the distance.]] [[spoiler:Squint later turns up alive, though.]]
-->'''Flynn:''' ''[being blasted with water]'' Oh this feels so good!!! Ah, thank you Mr. Whale!!!
* TokenFlyer: Silas does most of the surveillance for the crew due to being the only bird.
* TwoGirlsToATeam: Before Shira's HeelFaceTurn, she and Raz were the only two female members of the crew.
* TheVoiceless: Dobson is the only member of the crew not to speak. He is seen [[TheSingingMute singing "Master of the Seas" along with the rest of his crew though.]]
* YouDirtyRat: Some rats can be seen onboard Gutt’s ship. They don’t seem to be involved with the main crew though.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Almost literal example. The last time when we see [[YouDirtyRat rats]] that accompany Gutt's crew is when their first ship is sinking and the rats escape from it.

A teen molehog who has befriended Peaches by the time the film starts. Has a pretty obvious crush on Peaches, but lacks much self-confidence in himself, and is thus easily intimidated.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: For some reason, Louis isn't as well liked from his peers (sans Peaches) and is even dismissed by Manny.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: The quiet, shy molehog managed to be the key person to attack Gutt.
* BigDamnHeroes: In the climax, Louis stands up to [[BigBad Gutt]] and challenged him to a fight. Amused, Gutt accepted Louis' challenge, telling Gupta to let the molehog have a weapon. Louis threw the weapon into the air, distracting everyone as he burrowed into the ice, popping up by Gutt and smashing a heavy piece of ice onto Gutt's foot. The pain distracted Gutt, enabling Peaches to escape as an all-out brawl between the Sub-Zero Heroes and the pirates ensued.
* BreakTheCutie: Overhearing Peaches deny their friendship in order to fit in with the "cool kids" really hurts him.
* ButtMonkey: Louis isn't given a lot of respect by the Herd.
* CowardlyLion: Louis isn't up for hanging out with the Brat Pack, who like putting their lives on the line, but he will do so if it means helping his friends, especially Peaches.
* DemotedToExtra: Only has an "blink and miss it" non-speaking cameo in the fifth movie. His absence from being part of the main cast could possibly be because Peaches married Julian and as a result, [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy he just wanted what was best for her]].
* DidNotGetTheGirl: Presumably, since Peaches marries Julian.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Louis deeply loves Peaches, but she remains completely in the dark.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Most people call him 'Weiner'.
* HopelessSuitor: Even before Peaches marries Julian, she was completely unaware of Louis's romantic feelings for her.
* HotSkittyOnWailordAction: He's a short molehog who crushes on Peaches, an enormous mammoth.
* NiceGuy: Louis is polite, loyal and holds a lot of likable traits including great dependability (as Peaches best friend).
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: He looks quite different from the other mole-hogs seen in the previous movies due to having a shorter nose, bigger ears, and a leaner body.
* PuppyDogEyes: Gives really effective ones. Either when he gazes at Peaches or when he's deeply hurt.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: A cute mole-hog who can pull of an impressive {{puppy dog eyes}}.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: With Peaches. While he's a small molehog, she's a giant mammoth.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the beginning, Louis was happy to just dig underground and staying out of danger. Come the climax, he uses his digging skills to attack Gutt to free Peaches.
* TunnelKing: Louis likes digging. A trait that helps free Peaches in the climax.
-->'''Louis:''' ''[to Peaches]'' I'm a Molehog, it's [digging] what I do. To me, it's fun.
* UndyingLoyalty: Louis proves to be very loyal to Peaches, as he willingly ventures onboard Gutt's ship and challenges him. He did not appear to be intimidated by Gutt, like most of the characters were.

* FearlessFool: He refers to barely escaping a cave in as fun.
* JerkJock: He is the leader of the Brat Pack and is a bit shallow and egotistical.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
** He tells Peaches not to bring Louis with her during their walk, and later showed disdain for her family being "half-possum." But when he insults Peaches for her "possum heritage", she furiously calls him out for his recklessness and storms out. He does seem to show regret after Peaches berated him.
** He also shows true genuine concern at the climax while witnessing Louis standing up to Gutt to save Peaches.

A trio of snobby teen girl mammoths.
----
* AlphaBitch: Steffie stands out the most being very snobby while Katie and Meghan just seem to agree with everything she says.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: Katie (Blonde), Meghan (Brunette), and Steffie (Redhead).
* FlowersOfFemininity: They all have flowers tucked on their ears.
* GirlPosse: They're a trio of popular teenage mammoths who look down upon Peaches.
* {{Jerkass}}: They insult Peaches for being "Half Possum" and also see Louis as nothing but an uncool loser.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: They are genuinely concerned at the climax for Louis and astounded by his bravery, they finally accept him into the gang.
* OutOfFocus: Meghan only has a single line and is not seen with the rest of the teenage mammoths later on.

Bizarre sea monsters that take on the form of what you love most and try to tempt you into their clutches. Their true form resembles a mudskipper fish or a primitive amphibian.
----
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: [[spoiler:They end up killing Captain Gutt for our heroes.]]
* ColdBloodedWhatever: They are amphibious creatures with a mix of traits from fish and frogs.
* DeathGlare: One of them, [[FreezeFrameBonus in its true form]], [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/non-aliencreatures/images/c/c0/Siren_true_from.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20191124155309 flashes this]] at [[spoiler:Captain Gutt]] before yanking him into its shell to start ''ripping into'' him.
* EarFins: They have big fins for ears.
* EatenAlive: What they do to their victims. With [[MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily how many teeth they have]], the results are very likely ''not'' pretty...
* MasterOfIllusion: They can cast illusions to make themselves look like something else. The illusion gets less stable when you take a closer look or figure out that it's a trick.
* OurSirensAreDifferent: It's in their name, though they don't do much singing.
* OutOfCharacterAlert: Manny's the first to figure out that they're not what they seem when he hears the one disguised as Ellie say this:
-->'''"Ellie":''' You were right, Manny...''you're ALWAYS right...''\
'''Manny:''' No, no, I--Wait a minute...[[OhCrap Ellie would]] ''[[OhCrap never]]'' [[OhCrap say that]]...
* OutsideGenreFoe: Compared to the majority of the cast being made up of prehistoric animals, the sirens stand out by being completely mythical creatures with somewhat supernatural abilities.
* SeaMonster: Small ones, but still monstrous and aquatic enough to qualify.
* ShapeshiftingSeducer: How they ensnare their prey.
* SirensAreMermaids: But not in the way you traditionally see mermaids...
* VillainousBreakdown: It's subtle, but the Sirens start to freak out a little when Manny sees through their disguises.
* YourHeartsDesire: [[ShownTheirWork True to the original mythology surrounding Sirens]], they lure their prey into their clutches by taking the form of someone or something their victim desires. For Diego it's Shira, for Sid it's a lovely lady sloth, for Granny it’s a {{Hunk}}y sloth with a prominent moustache and for Manny it's Ellie and Peaches. One also turned into an acorn for Scrat when its Scratte disguise didn't work, but that lead to problems for both parties when Scrat naturally tried to bury it. [[spoiler:One siren successfully lures Captain Gutt into its clam by taking on the appearance of a female Gigantopithecus.]]

[[caption-width-right:1000: '''"Sid":''' ''That’s your pet!?'']]

Granny's seemingly imaginary or presumably deceased pet. She turns out to not only be alive but also a giant ''Livyatan''.
-----
* AnimalsNotToScale: ''Livyatan melvillei'' was certainly a huge animal, estimated to have been comparable in size to today's sperm whale (up to 55 feet), but Precious is many times larger, big enough to easily fit Manny (a woolly mammoth) in her cavernous jaws. The skull of ''Livyatan'' is only around 10 feet long, which is also the average standing height of a woolly mammoth.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Despite being a whale, she has nostrils at the end of her snout rather than a blowhole.
* ChekhovsGun: For most of ''Continental Drift'', we are led to believe that Precious is just a figment of Granny's senile imagination as a RunningGag. During the climax, the Herd struggles against Captain Gutt and his crew but once Precious shows up, the tide quickly turns in the heroes' favor.
* FluffyTheTerrible: With a name like "Precious" and being the pet of an old lady, you'd think she would be some sort of fluffy, lap dog-sized critter. She's actually a gigantic sperm whale that sends Gutt's pirates packing in fear.
* GoodCounterpart: To Captain Gutt's narwhals, as she's another cetacean who acts as a pet/attack dog but in this case, she's at the beck and call of one of the good guys, Granny.
* KrakenAndLeviathan: Her species is even named after the Biblical sea monster, and she's much bigger than her real-life counterpart, probably being the most massive character to appear in the franchise. Interestingly, early concept art shows that the filmmakers originally wanted to go the Kraken route by making her a giant squid.
* MonsterWhale: Subverted. She certainly looks the part but is wholly devoted to Granny, helps defeat the pirates, saves Manny's life, and helps the animals find a new home at the end.
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: She has rows and rows of sharp teeth in her mouth.
* MysteriousPast: Just how did Granny meet and more importantly, domesticate a giant ''Livyatan''? We'll never know.
* RealAfterAll: It's made into a RunningGag, where everyone ([[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} not without reason]]) thinks that [[ScatterbrainedSenior Granny's just senile whenever she rambles about her pet]]. Turns out her pet is not only real but a giant freaking sperm whale.
* UnusualPetsForUnusualPeople: A humongous sperm whale who acts like a pet dog to the crabby, eccentric, and somewhat senile Granny Sloth.

[[folder:Narwhals]]
A pod of narwhals who serve as Captain Gutt's personal attack dogs and always lurk in close proximity to his ship.
-----
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: When Gutt has Granny walk the plank, the narwhals circle around her, seemingly intending to eat her. While narwhals are predators, they have rather small, underdeveloped teeth and thus feed strictly on small fish and cephalopods.
* DeviousDolphins: Dolphin relatives anyway, and they serve the BigBad of the movie.
* RightHandAttackDog: To Captain Gutt. He has trained them so well that simply whistling is enough to summon them and have them do whatever task he requires from them, from hitching a ride on their backs while pursuing his foes to propelling his iceberg ship onward.
* SpikesOfVillainy: Out of all the known whale species, it's unsurprising that the BigBad is controlling a pod of the one species known for the massive tusk jutting out of its snout. Gutt even tries to have two of them impale Manny and his friends during the chase scene on Hyrax island.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: They are last seen pushing Gutt’s new ship but don’t show up in the climax. Since all the pirates are defeated and Gutt is [[spoiler: eaten alive by sirens]], it is unknown what became of the narwhals.

[[folder:Sid's Family]]

-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/AlanTudyk (Milton), Joy Behar (Eunice), Eddie 'Piolin' Sotelo (Uncle Fungus), Ben Gleib (Marshall)
A group of ground sloth who are related to Sid. Initially only mentioned in the first movie, they make a surprise appearance in ''Continental Drift'', where they dump Sid's Granny off with him under the guise of "missing" Sid.
----
* AbandonTheDisabled: When moving inland, they decide that the frail, senile Granny is just a "deadweight" that isn't worth looking after, so they go through the effort of tracking down Sid - who they ''also'' previously abandoned - just so they can leave her with him instead.
* AbusiveParent: Given that they made it an annual tradition to abandon their son during the migration down south and show zero remorse for it, and are all too willing to feign love and concern for their son for their own purposes (like when they ditched Granny into Sid's care), Milton and Eunice aren't winning any parent of the year awards. Even Diego starts to understand the root cause of Sid's issues after meeting his family.
* BambooTechnology: They "drive" around the snowy tundras in a huge hollowed out log as if it were a car. Milton is even shown steering it with a branch designed like a steering wheel.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: They are a bunch of self-serving [[{{Jerkass}} Jerkasses]] who have no scruples about abandoning Sid when they migrate south (even restraining him and blocking the cave to do so), but they did at least bother locating him in order to dump Granny into his care instead of just abandoning her to her fate as well.
* EvilRedhead: Sid’s mother seems to be the matriarch of the family and has to remind her slower husband to play along with their pretend care for Sid when seeing him again.
* HateSink: Even without appearing in person, the family willingly abandon Sid in the first film, leaving him to fend for himself until he meets Manny and Diego. Years later, they finally track Sid down at the start of the fourth film, only so they could ditch Granny with him before they moved away.
* KarmaHoudini: They face no consequences for abandoning Sid and Granny, as they're long gone in the former case and leave the movie altogether after abandoning the latter.
* LackOfEmpathy: Doesn't matter if you're a family member. If they view you as an annoyance and/or inconvenience, they'll abandon you.
* ThePigpen: Even by sloth standards, Uncle Fungus is absolutely filthy. He always has flies buzzing around him and his fur is a grungy green.
* UnseenNoMore: After being referred to in the first movie, they physically show up to see Sid in the fourth film...and drop off Sid’s cantankerous Granny so they won’t have to worry about two misfits.
* VagueAge: Marshall (Sid's brother) is the size of a small child but has an adult voice and acts like a snarky, disgruntled teenager. He can’t be that young considering he was mentioned in the first movie and enough time has passed for Sid to be with Manny and watch Peaches grow into a teenager.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: In the first movie, Sid calls out to two relatives called Bernie and Zack alongside Marshall and Uncle Fungus after waking up alone in his tree. While the latter two show up in the fourth movie, Bernie and Zack are never mentioned again. Considering how Sid’s family is like, it is entirely possible that these two family members were abandoned at some point between movies.

Creator/IdziDutkiewicz[[/labelnote]]

A conniving and underhanded flying dromaeosaur who leads a group of egg-thieves consisting of himself, his daughter Gertie, and son Roger. He holds an intense hatred for Buck for repeatedly thwarting his family's escapades and attempts to get revenge on him by trying to thwart the Herd's attempt at diverting the asteroid.
----
* AbusiveParents: Zigzaged. On one hand, Gavin frequently belittles and openly voices his contempt for his son Roger for not living up to his standards and disagreeing with his plan to stop the herd from diverting the asteroid. On the other hand, he treats his daughter Gertie with respect and clearly prefers her over Roger.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Despite of being abusive parent to Roger and showing his favoritism to Gertie, Gavin loves both his children, cares about them and protects them. Fortunately, he reconciles with his son in climax.
* BigBad: Gavin serves as the film's main antagonist for wanting to make sure the herd fails to make sure the asteroid hits.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: To Captain Gutt from the previous film. Gutt was an omnivorous Ice Age-era mammal who commanded a crew of piratical animals of different species who survived by raiding ice floes of whatever they had to offer, and became consumed by a desire for revenge against Manny after his and his friends' efforts to get home cost Gutt two of his ships and the loyalty of one of his crew members. Gavin, meanwhile, is a carnivore from the dinosaur world who leads a much smaller pack of egg thieves consisting of himself and his two children, and seeks revenge on Buck for getting in the way of his family's egg heists. While Gutt became a personal enemy of Manny after his attempts on Ellie and Peaches' lives, Gavin's grudge is focused solely on Buck and didn't even interact with any of the herd until the climax of his debut movie. Also, whereas Gutt was a BadBoss to his subordinates, cared only about himself, and ended up dying after being bested by Manny, Gavin, [[ParentalFavoritism despite being quite hard on his son Roger while preferring his daughter Gertie]], cares for both his children and underwent a HeelFaceTurn to help the herd save the planet, and [[RedemptionEqualsLife lived to survive the events of the fifth movie]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite of being abrasive and constantly belittling to his son Roger and prefering his daughter Gertie, Gavin truly loves and cares about both of his children. Because of this, Buck convinces him to pull a HeelFaceTurn by convincing Gavin that revenge on him (Buck) is not worth jeopardizing his offspring's safety.
* FeatheredFiend: Has feathers, and quite unpleasant.
* HeelFaceTurn: He abandons his revenge scheme against Buck to help the herd divert the asteroid thanks to some persuading from Roger, Gertie, and Buck himself.
%%* {{Jerkass}}: Not a very pleasant individual, especially towards his son.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He does care about his kids though, which is part of the reason he does a HeelFaceTurn.
* KickTheDog: A minor one, but when Gavin and his kids arrive on the surface, he callously tells Roger that if it weren't for the fact that he inherited his mother's telescopic eyesight, he would be useless to the rest of the family.
* PapaWolf: In climax he tried to protect his children from falling meteorites.
* ParentalFavoritism: He clearly prefers and respects his daughter over his son.
* PlotIrrelevantVillain: Although he plotted to stop the herd from diverting the asteroid, he and his kids ultimately failed to do anything that hindered the herd on their journey. In fact, the herd, sans Buck, even remained completely unaware of their presence until the third act.
* RaptorAttack: Although he and his family are feathered to an extent and even have wings and a tail fan, they still aren't feathered enough. Also their ability to fly isn't exactly accurate either (it's speculated that a few dromaeosaurids may have been capable of flight, but all of them were significantly smaller than Gavin and his family).
* SmallNameBigEgo: He isn't anywhere near as smart or capable as he thinks he is.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Gavin's desire to stop the herd and make sure the asteroid hits fueled by his belief that if he and his children succeed, the blast from the asteroid will effectively take out everyone on the ground while he, Gertie, and Roger fly safely overhead, thereby killing Buck and ensuring the dominance of their species. Fortunately, he is convinced otherwise during the film's climax.

A bulky female dromaeosaur and Gavin's daughter who faithfully follows and supports her father's schemes while abusing her younger brother Roger.
----
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Gertie was rude to her brother Roger, but she supported him, when he tryed to stop their Dad from killing Buck.
* BigSisterBully: She regularly torments and insults her brother Roger.
* DaddysGirl: Gavin clearly prefers Gertie because she is more competent and less questioning of her father’s orders.
%%* TheDragon: Towards Gavin.
%%* FeatheredFiend: Like father, like daughter.
* HeelFaceTurn: Joins her father and brother in helping the herd after learning that her ability to fly won't save her from being destroyed by the asteroid.
%%* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Has signs of this, towards her dad and later her brother.
* MissingMom: No mother is ever seen nor mentioned.
%%* MoralityPet: To Gavin.
* PaperTiger: Not quite as tough as her size suggests. She freaks out when Granny starts walking on her back, and when she is finally convinced that Gavin's plan won't succeed, she goes into a blind panic.
* RidiculouslySmallWings: Gertie is somehow able to lift her bulky body off the ground with her tiny, tiny wings.

----
* AntiVillain: He is really a villain in the name only and all he wants is his father's love.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: In climax he understand that his dad truly loves him and cares about him and his sister and the best thing in their family is that they are alive.
--> '''Roger:''' Do you know what I love in our family? That we're alive. There are more importaint things than your pride right now. If you care about us, you should not kill him. You should help him, Dad.
* CallingTheOldManOut: At the film's climax, he finally finds the courage to say "no" to Gavin and point out there are more important things at stake than the latter's pride
* DeadpanSnarker: Has signs of this, towards his family mostly.
* FamilyEyeResemblance: According to Gavin, Roger has his mother's eyes (and that it's the only thing keeping him from being completely useless).
* ForcedIntoEvil: When it comes down to it, Roger is a truly good-hearted individual who displays genuine discomfort towards stealing the eggs of other dinosaurs and reluctance in hurting others, but given what kind of family he is a part of, he doesn't have any other option.
%%* HeelFaceTurn: Granted, he was never really evil to begin with, but still.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Not very skilled about hunting.
* MissingMom: It's never mentioned what happened to his and Gertie's mother. Although Gavin mentions that Roger has her eyes.
* MommasBoy: It is implied that Roger had a better relationship with his mother than with his father, a reason why he inherited his mother's eyesight and eye color, but after his mother's death, his relationship with his father soured. It has not gone quite well and his father prefers his eldest daughter Gertie as his favorite, as Roger is a disappointment to him.
%%* MoralityPet: Also to Gavin, but it became more noticeable close to the end of the film.
* NiceGuy: Compared to his father and sister, he's much more reasonable and considerate.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted. He shares a name with the pterosaur from ''Dawn of the Dinosaurs''.
* ShorterMeansSmarter: Runt of the litter, big on common sense.
* TheSmartGuy: Made evident he inherited the brains in the family when he contradicted his father's idiotic plan.
* StupidestThingIveEverHeard: This is his reaction (in a more polite tone) to his dad's plan.
* SuperSenses: He has the best eyesight out of his family, something Gavin claims he inherited from his mother.
* TheUnfavorite: It's clear that his father prefers Gertie over him.

One of Buck's former squadmates.
----
* ActionGirl: She’s just as competent at adventuring and fighting dinosaurs as Buck is.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: In the climax, when [[TheBigGuy Momma T-Rex]] has a toothache and Buck has to pull it out, she takes Buck "winking" as a sign to knock her out. Of course, this is while [[BigBad Orson]] is preparing to attack, and Momma is their only reinforcement. Zee realizes her mistake [[OhCrap in great shock]], and inevitably, they get ambushed.
* DistaffCounterpart: Downplayed. Much like Buck, she’s a swashbuckling action hero but is also more lucid and careful.

* ArtisticLicensePaleontology: For some reason sports a theropod-like snout with sharp teeth, whereas real ''Protoceratops'' had a toothless beak at the front of their jaws. He also has a spiky tail akin to a nodosaur and walks on two feet instead of four.
* BigBad: The main antagonist of ''Adventures of Buck Wild''.
* DumbDinos: Zigzagged. He's the self-proclaimed smartest being in the Lost World, even complaining about the stereotype of dinosaurs having tiny brains, but the fact that he ends up outsmarted by ''Crash and Eddie'' of all characters suggests that his ego far exceeds his actual intellect.
* EvilGenius: Likes to boast that he's one, but in practice he's more of a SmugSnake than anything else. His one arguably clever feat is learning how to dominate the raptors with fire, and even that was a discovery he mostly made by luck.
* FantasticRacism: He really hates mammals with a passion, seeking to destroy any mammals who migrated into the Lost World.
* FreudianExcuse: He was bullied for the massive brain on the back of his head (which just so happened to be his brain). It made him to develop a superiority complex and his thirst to rule the lost world.
* ItsAllAboutMe: His claim of no one is smarter than him just shows how egotistical he is.
* MyBrainIsBig: It's so big, in fact, that it protrudes from his head.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He's neither as smart nor as threatening as he likes to think he is.
* SmugSnake: He is very self-assured that his plans will succeed, but his gloating proved to be his downfall in the end.

[[folder:Raptors]]
Orson's army of minions that he uses to take over the Lost World.
----
* AllAnimalsAreDogs: They very much behave and are treated by Orson as his attack dogs. Following their HeelFaceTurn, they act more like [[BigFriendlyDog Big Friendly Dogs]] to Crash and Eddie.
* DumbDinos: To the point that Orson can control them simply by making fire, which somehow [[HypnoFool hypnotizes them into obeying his every command]].
* FurryConfusion: The fifth movie seemed to suggest through Gavin and his family that raptors were capable of speech, but these ones are mute like typical dinosaurs.
* HeelFaceTurn: During the final battle, Crash and Eddie manage to convert them to their side thanks to their [[ChekhovsGun fire-breathing lizards]], since the raptors are mesmerized by fire.
* RaptorAttack: It borders on InformedSpecies. They are referred to as “raptors” in-universe, but outside of having the iconic dromaeosaur sickle claw, they otherwise look more like cartoony ''Coelophysis'' with the nasal crest of ''Ceratosaurus'' ([[ArtisticLicensePaleontology once more incorrectly depicted as a rhino-like horn]]). Needless to say, they don't sport a single feather.
** It's especially jarring since the previous film featured (comparatively) far more accurate dromaeosaurs.

!Characters introduced in ''Scrat Tales''
[[folder:Baby Scrat]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KariWahlgren
----
* AmbiguouslyRelated: Could be just a random baby of Scrat's species, but WordOfGod suggests that he's Scratte's son, which might mean that Scrat is his biological father.
* BrattyHalfPint: Has a shade of this as he took delight in Scrat's suffering and even tricks him a handful of times to get his hand on the acorn for himself.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Like his adopted father, Baby Scrat is obsessed with getting his hands on that acorn.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Um...it's Baby Scrat. How does he not count in this category?!
[[/folder]]
[[folder: The Dodo Kid]]
A young dodo bird who occasionally crosses paths with Scrat and Baby Scrat.
----
* DoofyDodo: Standard for the franchise. If anything it seems even ''dumber'' than the dodos that have been seen up to this point, potentially on account of just being a baby. Doesn't stop it from causing trouble for the Scrats, though.
* FishEyes: Has very derpy eyes.
* FlyingFlightlessBird: Inexplicably able to fly in "Teeter Toddler".
