!The Khaos Brigade

Established by Ophis, the Khaos Brigade is headed by Katerea Leviathan, Creuserey Asmodeus, Shalba Beelzebub, and Rizevim Livan Lucifer, all of whom are descendants of the original Four Great Satans. The brigade intends to remove the Great Red, one of the most powerful Dragons in existence known as the True Dragon, from the Dimensional Gap. The brigade is also dissatisfied by the growing alliance of various mythological powers and seek to cause chaos in our world. Few people dared to challenge them, save for the current Four Great Satans and the alliance between the Angels, the Fallen Angels, and the Devils.\

Following the deaths of Katerea in volume 3, Creuserey in volume 6, and Shalba in volume 12, the remnants of the Khaos Brigade reorganize into the Qlippoth Faction.

----

[[folder:In General]]
* AmbitionIsEvil: Their ambition is to cause chaos everywhere and remove the Great Red from the Dimensional Gap.
* BadassArmy: They're one of the most feared and powerful armies in the Underworld and appropriately enough, they plan to spread chaos.
* TheDreaded: Their very presence struck fear across the underworld, but that all changed when the Three Factions formed TheAlliance.
* EqualOpportunityEvil: Gender and race are no issue for the brigade. Humans who are descendants of legendary heroes have appeared in several volumes.
* EvilArmy: One of the first evil organizations introduced in the series to feature a large variety of villains in its roster. They have some of the strongest fighters in the Underworld and in the Hero Faction.
* FelonyMisdemeanor: The Khaos Brigade commits terrorist attacks because the Three Factions are negotiating a peace treaty after years of conflict.
* TheManBehindTheMan: The Khaos Brigade is the one behind the assault at Kuoh Academy's PeaceConference between the Three Factions and Diodora Astaroth's invasion of the Underworld.
* MookHorrorShow: What the Occult Research Club and TheAlliance subject them to when they first encounter them. The Khaos Brigade uses everything they have at their disposal, even using Diodora to attack the underworld, kidnapping Yasaka and reviving the Evil Dragons, but they are quickly wiped out.
* TakeOverTheWorld: The Khaos Brigade's plan is to cause chaos everywhere and (or at least the Old Satan Faction's) rule the Underworld.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: The brigade is led by people who genuinely believe in its ideology, as radical as their methods may be.

[[header:Old Satan Faction]]
[[folder:In General]]
!! Old Satan Faction

A large faction of confederate Devils who remain loyal to the old devil practices. Similar to the Vali team, the Satan Faction acted as early enemies for Issei and company, but have gone quiet for the most part after Ajuka defeats most of their forces.
----
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Katerea, Creuserey and Shalba are the leaders of the faction and the most powerful.
* BestServedCold: They've been planning to exact revenge on the Four Great Satans and all devils for years.
* DyingRace: As of the end of volume 11, Rizevim, Vali and [[spoiler:Ingvild]] are the only known remaining pure-blood descendants of the original Satans still alive and it would seem the species is on the verge of extinction. There's still continuation of the original Satans in Vali and [[spoiler:Ingvild]], but chances are that any remaining pure-blooded descendants are going to be genetically thinned out later on. And with Rizevan having already passed away, Rizevim dying five months before the Azazel Cup ''and'' Vali considering fighting BetterThanSex, they're the only options available.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Despite touting Devils as the strongest beings who deserve control over the world, they rely heavily on the empowering snakes of Ophis, a dragon.
* RenegadeSplinterFaction: The Old Satan Faction was organized by the descendants of the original Four Great Satans.
* TheResenter: The faction's leaders deeply resent the current Satans since they felt that they were defiling Satan's name.
* SinsOfOurFathers: They exact revenge on the Devils for what they did to their ancestors.
* SmugSnake: The descendants of the previous Satans hold themselves above the current "fake" Satans, but they each had to receive Ophis' blessing to even begin to pose a threat.
* TheUnfettered: Katerea, Creusery and Shalba are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals, even committing terrorist attacks on Kuoh Academy and the underworld.
* VisionaryVillain: They have a clear vision where the descendants of the original Satans could rule the Underworld after spearheading an uprising against the Four Great Satans.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: They want a world where the original Satans' descendants could rule the Underworld but it doesn't justify them using terrorist attacks.

->'''Species:''' Devil\
'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HarumiSakurai (Japanese) and Creator/MarthaHarms (English)

The descendant of the original Leviathan, Katerea is one of the three leaders of the Old Satan Faction with a deep resentment against the current Satans. Wishing to cause destruction and chaos to the world and rebuild it under a new world for herself, Katerea attacks the peace conference between the Three Factions at Kuoh Academy, only to be killed by Azazel.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: She has tan skin.
* BigBad: The main antagonist of Volume 4 and episodes 11-12 of ''NEW''.
* BoomHeadshot: In the final episode of ''NEW'', Azazel runs the light spear through her head.
* CombatTentacles: She converts her arm into tentacles, which she uses to capture and restrain Azazel in a desperate attempt to kill him. Unfortunately for her, Azazel just hacks off his arm like it's nothing and kills her.
* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation: In the light novels, Azazel runs his light spear through Katerea's gut. On the other hand, the anime version has Azazel run the spear through her head.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: After mocking Azazel during their FinalBattle in Volume 4, Katerea gets ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice for her troubles.
* DrivenToSuicide: Once Azazel overpowers her, she decides to transform her arm and launch a suicide attack. It doesn't work.
* FemmeFatale: She is quite a capable fighter.
* FinalSolution: She attempts to kill the Three Factions' leaders at the peace conference to spread chaos throughout the world. Azazel puts a stop to it.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: She wears glasses and is the BigBad of volume 4.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: This is how Azazel kills her. At the end of volume 4, Azazel cuts off his arm and runs her through with a light spear, disintegrating her into dust. She's the first of the Old Satan Faction leaders to die.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: Is dissolved into light after Azazel runs her through with his light spear.
* ShoutOutThemeNaming: Katerea's name is derived from two characters from the ''Gundam'' franchise: Katejina Loos from ''Anime/MobileSuitVictoryGundam'' and Lady Une from ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing''.
* SoreLoser: When it seems that Azazel is going to defeat her, Katerea decides to take him down with her rather than losing.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: She's the only female leader of the Old Satan Faction.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Katerea, or Cattleya?
* TakingYouWithMe: Once she goes into VillainousBreakdown mode, Katerea attempts to take Azazel down with her by transforming her arms into tentacles and wrapping them around Azazel's arm. It doesn't work out and she gets ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice in the end.
* VillainousBreakdown: She loses it when Azazel mocks her during their fight, leading her to use her powers in a desperate attempt to kill Azazel.

The descendant of the original Asmodeus who challenges Azazel for causing Katerea's death in Volume 6.
----
* AvengingTheVillain: He wants to avenge Katerea's death at the hands of Azazel.
* {{Pride}}: His FatalFlaw. His arrogance leads to his death at the hands of Sirzechs.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Creuserey wears black clothes and dark red belts.
* ReducedToDust: He's dissolved into dust when he's soon defeated by Sirzechs and Azazel in volume 6.
* ShoutOutThemeNaming: Creuserey's name is derived from Rau Le Creuset and Rey Za Burrel, both from ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED''.
* SmugSnake: He has an overconfident personality and considers himself a "True Satan."
* TooDumbToLive: Really, Creuserey, what were you thinking when you insulted Sirzechs, one of the Four Great Satans, as an imposter?
* WeHardlyKnewYe: The audience gets to know little about him before he is quickly killed by Sirzechs.

->'''Species:''' Devil\
'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KenNarita (Japanese) and Creator/IanSinclair (English)

Shalba is the descendant of the original Beelzebub.
----
* AnArmAndALeg: He loses both of arms when Issei uses his Juggernaut Drive to curb-stomp him in Volume 6.
* AxCrazy: By the time of volume 11, Shalba goes absolutely insane in his attempt to take revenge on the Underworld.
* BackForTheDead: After having cheated death in Volume 6, he returns in Volume 11 to fight Issei, only for him to meet his ultimate end.
* BadassCape: He wears a long cape to go with his uniform.
* BadBoss: After Diodora fails to kill Asia and the Occult Research Club, Shalba brutally murders him.
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: He ends up being the one who kills Diodora.
* BigBad: Once he kills Diodora, Shalba takes over as the sole main antagonist of volumes 6 and 11.
* BigBadDuumvirate: When he's first introduced in Volume 6, he and Diodora Astaroth serve as the main antagonists, leading an invasion of the Underworld.
* TheBusCameBack: In Volume 11, he returns from the brink of death thanks to the Khaos Brigade finding and healing him.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: He sends Asia to the Dimensional Gap and taunted our heroes about her imminent death... and gets curb-stomped to near death for it afterwards.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: {{Invoked|Trope}} by Issei when Shalba tells the latter that he sent Asia to the Dimensional Gap and taunts him about her death.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Creator/KenNarita provides the deep, sinister voice of Shalba Beelzebub.
* EvilWearsBlack: He's decked out in an all-black uniform and serves as one of the Old Satan Faction's leaders.
* FinalBoss: He becomes the last antagonist the Occult Research Club has to face in the second story arc.
* ForTheEvulz: Seemingly the only reason why he nearly killed Asia by sending her to the dimensional gap.
* HeroKiller: [[CombatPragmatist He did have to cheat for that one]] but he was able to ''kill [[OurHeroIsDead Issei!]]'' This being ''High School D×D'', [[DeathIsCheap it just didn't stick.]]
* KilledOffForReal: He escapes death at Issei Hyoudou's hands at the end of Volume 6. After the Hero Faction helps heal his injuries, Shalba is blasted into dust for good by Issei in the Volume 11 finale but not before he pulls a TakingYouWithMe on the latter.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: He sports long hair and looks like a handsome young man.
* ManipulativeBastard: Diodora wouldn't have joined the Old Satan Faction and Leonardo wouldn't have been brainwashed if Shalba wouldn't allow them to.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: He gets disintegrated into light when Issei blasts him with his last ounce of strength.
* ObviouslyEvil: Shalba has a deep voice, black armor, and has a sinister, manipulative personality.
* {{Pride}}: His FatalFlaw. His arrogance and underestimating Issei's powers resulted in his eventual death.
* {{Revenge}}: After his defeat and restoration, Shalba seeks to exact revenge against the devils, specifically Issei for defeating him in the Underworld. He eventually succeeds in killing Issei, but [[KilledOffForReal gets blasted into dust]] at the same time.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: In Volume 11, he attempts to take revenge on Issei and the devils for defeating him by tricking Leonardo into using his Balance Breaker. Then, he kidnaps Ophis and despite being killed by Issei, Shalba ''does'' succeed in getting revenge on Issei at the same time he is KilledOffForReal.
* SanitySlippage: He goes completely insane when he's defeated by Issei and restored by the Hero Faction.
* ShoutOutThemeNaming: Shalba's name is derived from Shagia Frost and Olba Frost, both from "Anime/AfterWarGundamX".
* SmugSnake: He is willing to flaunt his powers in front of everyone and keeps on declaring that he will make the other mythologies acknowledge that the devils are the strongest race in the entire world. And is even willing to kill children who do not agree with his ideologies. [[CurbStompBattle Three guesses what Issei did to him. Twice.]]
* TakingYouWithMe: Issei blasts Shalba into nothing, but Shalba [[OurHeroIsDead returns the favor]] to him.
* TooDumbToLive: After being revived, Shalba wants to kill off all the Devils that denied him by manipulating Leonardo and kidnapping Ophis. It doesn't end well for him when Issei kills him in volume 11.
* TraumaCongaLine: Since his defeat in volume 6, Shalba's life has become one traumatic experience after another. He had his arms bitten off, blasted by Issei's Longinus Smasher and went insane after that. By volume 11, it's clear that he wants to exact revenge on the devils, specifically Issei.
* UngratefulBastard: How does he repay the "hero" faction for saving him from Issei's Juggernaut Drive? He kidnaps, brainwashes, and unleashes Leonardo on the underworld in a manner all but guaranteed to lead to PhlebotinumOverload and his death.
* VillainBall: Having sent Asia to the Dimensional Gap and killed Diodora, Shalba casually tells the Occult Research Club about Asia's imminent death. However, he is [[OhCrap taken by surprise]] when Issei activates Juggernaut Drive and gains the upper hand.
* VillainDecay: After his first defeat at Issei's hands, Shalba becomes an emotionally unstable wreck who wants to take revenge against the devils who had denied him by destroying the Underworld.
* VillainExitStageLeft: A {{subverted|Trope}} example occurs at the end of Volume 11. He attempts to escape his final battle with Issei, only to get blasted into dust by Issei's attack.
* VillainTeamUp: He forms an alliance with Diodora Astaroth to commence an assault on the Underworld.
* VillainousBreakdown: Shalba loses it when Issei activates Juggernaut Drive to curb-stomp him.
* WeCanRebuildHim: And that's what the Khaos Brigade did.
* WouldHurtAChild: In Volume 11, he risks Leonardo's life by using his Balance Breaker and kidnaps Ophis, showing that he has no discomfort about killing children to fulfill his RoaringRampageOfRevenge. This understandably doesn't sit well with [[FriendToAllChildren Issei]], whom the children regard as a superhero.
* YouHaveFailedMe: In Volume 6, he kills Diodora after the latter fails to rape Asia and kill Rias' group.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: He's willing to dispose of anyone whom he considers a liability to his plans. Just ask Diodora.

[[header:'''Hero Faction''']]
[[folder:In General]]
!!Hero Faction

A dangerous faction consisting of human descendants of famous mythology characters led by Cao Cao. The heroes serve as the primary antagonists of the light novel's third saga; not only succeeding in draining Ophis of her power for the Khaos Brigade but forming an alliance with the Death God, Hades, to end the world of devils.
----
* TheAtoner: As part of their HeelFaceTurn in ''Literature/ShinHighSchoolDXD'', [[spoiler:the Hero Faction atones for their misdeeds]].
* DeadlyUpgrade: Chaos Break, an injection that is capable of giving a massive power-up to humans at the cost of their bodies deteriorating to the point not even a phoenix tear can heal them.
* DealWithTheDevil: Made a deal with Hades to acquire Samael, the Dragon Eater.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: They're humans who could die right off the bat from just about anybody from any mythology. They still kick ass thanks to having Longinus-class Sacred Gears and knowing powerful magic.
* EscapedFromHell: This is what Indra taunts Cao Cao, Georg, and Leonardo to pull off only because Issei already did it before. Cao Cao makes it out while Georg stays behind for the time being to study the realm of the dead with Leonardo keeping him company.
* HazyFeelTurn: While the Hero Faction is no longer a part of the terrorist cell of the Khaos Brigade, it is noted that their new superior; Indra, is a WildCard due to his BloodKnight tendencies,
* HeelFaceTurn: By the time of ''Literature/ShinHighSchoolDXD'', [[spoiler:Cao-Cao and the Hero Faction decide to make amends with Issei and his friends for all the trouble they have caused]].
* HumansAreBastards: Definitely fits within the core group members.
* HumansAreSpecial: The only ones who could wield a Sacred Gear (and not artificial ones) are humans or former humans who either turned into angels or devils. Unfortunately, the Hero Faction are the villains for the third arc.
* KnightTemplar: They seem to genuinely believe that killing gods and monsters are for a good cause.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: When their plan to summon Great Red by capturing Yasaka is foiled by Issei and his friends, they wisely decide to retreat.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: They're named after and are descended from famous mythological or historical characters.
* NeverMyFault: Whenever they're called out on their actions, or the consequences, they couldn't care less. Cao Cao is especially guilty of this.
* PutOnAPrisonBus: After the Hero Faction is defeated in Volume 12, Jeanne and Heracles are taken into custody by the Devils and Fallen Angels. They eventually reappear in the sequel.
* ShownTheirWork: In-universe at least.
* UndyingLoyalty: When they're not BrainwashedAndCrazy, Cao Cao's willing to let other Sacred Gear human users join him for his cause. They do follow him all the way through to the end as shown by the {{Mook}} Issei encountered.
* TheUnfettered: Has been shown to go absurd lengths to accomplish their goals.
* UnwittingPawn: They all serve as Hades' pawns in his plans.
* WeakButSkilled: They're all this, but Cao Cao deserves a special mention because according to Vali, he could be the strongest human being thanks to his True Longinus.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: The only reason why they even formed the group was because the humans are the ones who get affected the most when three factions who have been going on a war with each other for a long time suddenly had a PeaceConference and created TheAlliance.
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: Sends a lot of {{Mooks}} towards the Occult Research Club to force them to reach Balance Breaker levels.

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1422816106932.png]]
->'''Species:''' Human\
'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KosukeToriumi (Japanese) and Creator/CliffordChapin (English)

Leader of the Hero Faction and a [[Literature/RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms descendant of Cao Cao]]. He also wields the strongest Longinus, True Longinus.
----
* AbusiveParents: His parents had sold him into slavery because of his Longinus power made him financially valuable.
* AffablyEvil: He is friendly when fighting his enemies.
* AnArmAndALeg: Issei uses his Ascalon to deliberately chop of Cao Cao's left arm during their duel in Kyoto, but it's rendered moot when Cao Cao uses Phoenix Tears to reattach it.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Being the leader of the Hero Faction, he can wipe the floor with relative ease.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: He beats his opponents by gathering intel on them and taking advantage of their weak points.
* BigDamnHeroes: In Volume 17, he breaks the barrier Qlippoth set up but doesn't show up personally. In the next volume though, he does this more traditionally by showing up to help battle the Evil Dragon Ladon.
* BloodKnight: Clearly enjoys fighting tough opponents like Issei, but is more composed than other examples. Issei even compares him to a calmer version of Vali. When one of the members of Khaos Brigade showed him of an alternate world at peace, he found it boring.
* CharacterTics: He frequently taps his spear against his shoulder, a habit Issei takes note of.
* CombatPragmatist: Encourages gathering information and fights extremely unfairly. Best exemplified during his fight with Vali and Issei's group. He used Samael's poison to take out Vali and attacks the weakest links of the group knowing that Issei would protect them which he did. He instantly got rid of the two fighters that actually was a threat to him and weakened the other side immensely.
* TheDragon: To Indra, after he Sun Wukong steps down as his vanguard.
* {{Expy}}: Other people in his group refer to him as the modern-day Cao Cao.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: He's just a normal human being who has a Sacred Gear and ''almost always dominates in fights.''
* EyepatchOfPower: He wears an eyepatch over his right eye after losing both his real eye ''and'' his Medusa eye to Issei. Even so, it doesn't slow him down.
* EyeScream: Issei destroys one of Cao Cao's eyes, forcing him to use Medusa's eyes as a replacement. And then Issei destroys that one as well with Samael's blood.
* {{Foil}}: To Issei; both have companions who are willing to join the both of them, but while Issei, a devil, will not sacrifice anybody for his cause and does care for the well-being of other people, Cao Cao, a human, is willing to make sacrifices for his cause.
* FreudianExcuse: Being sold into slavery by his parents made it impossible for Cao Cao to trust anyone.
* GlassCannon: All it takes to defeat him is just one hit from anybody in this series. Yet ''no one can land a hit on him.''
* GlorySeeker: In addition to his BloodKnight tendencies, he wants to be remembered as a hero who accomplished mighty deeds, and thinks being named if not descended from an actual famous hero pretty much grants him the title as long as he performs "accomplishments," ie, significant military victories. He is suitably crushed when he's informed that the title of "hero" is not something you can give yourself, and even being from a proud heroic bloodline won't cut it. ''The society you live in'' has to judge your deeds heroic by its own standards.
* HandicappedBadass: Beginning with volume 11, Cao Cao remains much the skilled warrior he was before losing an eye to Issei in volume 9.
* HeelFaceTurn: Of a sort. He quits the Khaos Brigade and gets permission [[spoiler:to enter the Azazel Cup. However, he is now the Vanguard to Indra after Sun Wukong stepped down, and with Indra's [[WildCard nature]], it's hard to pin if he will remain an ally.]] He even notes the {{irony}} of it.
* HeroicWannabe: He will do anything, and we mean '''anything''' he thinks will grant him the title of "hero." He cares not one whit about the morality of his actions, and there doesn't exist a single crime he will shy away from. Even after he's informed that gaining the "Hero" title he so covets is impossible, due to his own actions being considered nothing but villainous, he isn't shaken for very long...
* IdiotBall: He just had to hold it before Issei fires off that Switch Princess button, even noting that Issei was acting out of character.
* MagneticHero: Despite the fact that he'll employ brainwashing for the humans with Sacred Gears who aren't willing to join his cause, there are also people who are willing to join him because he's accepted them and will die for them.
%%* OneManArmy: Oh is he ''ever''.
* RedRightHand: After he's blinded in his left eye during his first fight with Issei, Cao Cao uses Medusa's eye. When that eye gets destroyed, he resorts to using an EyepatchOfPower.
* SuperpowerLottery: He won it by being the current wielder of the strongest Longinus.
** SphereOfPower: The True Longinus' Balance Breaker, Polar Night Longinus Chakra Valdine has SEVEN of them, each with different powers and names.
*** AttackReflector: Mala Nitana
*** BreakableWeapons: Chatsuka Ratana. It broke Durandal!
*** {{Flight}}: Hatsutei Ratana
*** KiManipulation: Balaniyaka Ratana
*** PowerNullifier: Itsutei Ratana, though it only works on women.
*** SummonMagic: Kahabatei Ratana
*** TeleportersVisualizationClause: Atsusa Ratana.
* ThisCannotBe: After True Longinus refuses to activate its Truth Idea towards Issei.
* VillainBall: He essentially defeated Issei and his friends twice in Volumes 9 and 11, then refrained from finishing them off so they can get stronger. Vali points out how foolish this was when Issei finally beats him in Volume 12.
* WorthyOpponent: He praises both Issei and Kiba for being able to at least match him and tells both of them to get stronger. He also thinks of Vali as such as well because the last time they fought, it was exhilarating.

A descendant of [[Myth/{{Faust}} Georg Faust]] who made a contract with [[DealWithTheDevil Mephistopheles]]. He also wields Dimension Lost, one of the four most powerful Longinus to exist.
----
* AlternateDimension: Capable of sending people to other dimensions.
* TheArchmage: Georg is noted to be a high-ranking Magician, who is skilled in various kinds of magic.
* AnArmAndALeg: He get his arm cut off during his fight with Gasper. He is later seen with his arm reattached somehow.
* DeflectorShields: The mists of Dimension Lost can be used to block attacks.
* FlashyTeleportation: Dimension Lost's mists also allow him to teleport himself, his allies and enemies alike.
* InsultBackfire: In the worst possible way. He tried to demoralize Gasper by insulting Issei's noble sacrifice to save Ophis. This backfires, [[ThisIsGonnaSuck spectacularly]].
* MysteriousMist: Dimension Lost (Also known as Fog of Extinction) creates mist to send attacks and anything to an AlternateDimension.

One of the top two swordsmen of the Khaos Brigade faction (the other is Arthur). His Sacred Gear is "Twice Critical", the same Sacred Gear Raynare thought that Issei had.
----
* ArtificialHuman: Made from different genetic patterns of those who carried the blood of the original Siegfried to use Gram.
* BlessedWithSuck: Rather badly too. His Sacred Gear is Twice Critical which comes from dragons while Gram is a ''dragon killer''. You can see where this is going if he tries combining the two.
* DualWielding: Triple wielding, ''all the way to sextuplet wielding''.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Kiba skewers him with Gram and Ascalon.
* LongLostRelative: Made by the Sigurd Institution the same as Freed and Lint, so he is artificially related to them.
* MasterSwordsman: Took on both Kiba and Xenovia ''and won'' when they fought the first time.
* MythologyGag: Lore-wise. He wields Sigurd's original sword, Gram, as well as its derivatives (Balmung and Nothung, which are treated in-universe as different swords than Gram). He also wields Tyrfing and Dáinsleif, which in the original myths have similar characteristics.
* RedBaron: "Chaos Edge" Sieg.
* ThisCannotBe: When Gram chooses Kiba as its master instead of him.
* UnknownRival: He is considers Arthur Pendragon to be his rival in terms of swordsman skills. Arthur doesn't notice his or care much for him as he become more interested in Yuuto Kiba.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Offers Ajuka to fight against Sirzechs since he's the only one who could put up a fight with the latter. His answer? Wipeout ''all the devils'' that were present ''without even standing up''.

----
* DirtyCoward: She uses a Devil child as a hostage when her battle against Xenovia, Irina and Akeno starts going badly for her.
* DeadlyUpgrade: Injected herself with ''two'' Chaos Breaks when injecting with one was already deadly to begin with. She still gets curb-stomped by Issei who at this point doesn't even have his Evil Pieces inside of him.
* SpontaneousWeaponCreation: Her Sacred Gear; Blade Blacksmith, allows her to create numerous Holy Swords of different attributes according to her will.

* HonorBeforeReason: He threw away his Chaos Break injection at the last minute and decided to take on Sairaorg man-to-man. Needless to say, it doesn't work although Sairaorg was impressed with him.

----
* AristocratsAreEvil: He plays this completely straight to use as a '''justification''' for destroying Sona's Ratings Game training school with parents and children inside, by self-destructing some of his own magician minions.
--> '''Euclid:''' "It's okay, right? High-Class Devils weren't going to attend or send their children there anyway."
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: He asks both Issei and Sirzechs one question: "What is a devil?" While Issei didn't have an answer to his question, he did note that Euclid's just insane.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: By using the power of the Holy Grail he was able to create a replica of Issei's Boosted Gear from the information he collected of Ddraig's soul and the Sacred Gear from Issei's [[ChekhovsGun original body]] left in the Dimensional Gap.
* CainAndAbel: He's the younger Cain to Grayfia's older Abel.
* ChekhovsGunman: He's mentioned during the time when Grayfia mentions her family to Issei during her InVinoVeritas moment.
* TheComicallySerious: He can make comments about Ddraig's state with a straight face.
* TheDragon: He acts as one to Rizevim, especially after he leaves the Khaos Brigade.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He does not understand why Grayfia doesn't like his behavior. He ultimately thinks it's simply his choice of wardrobe or color.
--> '''Euclid:''' "Why? Why do you reject me? I'm now also 'red.'"
* EvilKnockoff: He created his own artificial Boosted Gear using a fraction of Issei's previous body that was killed by Samael's poison and the Holy Grail. 393[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1422114909622.png]]
->'''Species:''' Devil

The son of the original Lucifer and Lilith and grandfather of Vali Lucifer, Rizevim is a devil who is the leader of the Qlippoth Faction. Not only that, but he has a penchant for tormenting everyone he comes across.
----
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: More than anything else, this is the reason he meets his end in volume 20. Despite spending his entire existence going out of his way to offend and torment everyone he comes across, he is utterly shocked and dismayed that nobody, not even the evil dragons with whom he partnered, would lift a finger to help him.
* {{Abusive Parent|s}}: He happily admits brutalizing Vali's father, Rizevan, and ordering the guy to do the same to Vali. He then laughs while admitting that he killed his own son for being scared of Vali's retaliation. What's worse is that in Volume 21 and 22, it's revealed that Rizevim used Vali's mother as a hostage so that Vali would allow himself to be abused without resistance, and Vali's father would comply with the abuse. If either of them refused, she would be brutalized instead and being a far more fragile ordinary human, the results are easy to imagine.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: He firmly holds this belief on Devils, and quite simply cannot comprehend the sheer idea of good Devils existing.
* ArchEnemy: He serves as this for Vali, since Rizevim was the one who brutalized Rizevan, who in turn did the same thing to ''Vali'' himself.
* AnArmAndALeg: An enraged Fafnir bites off an arm, but he reattaches it shortly afterwards. Later, Vali chops off his arm after Issei defeats him.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: He's the leader of the Qlippoth Faction and one of the most powerful devils.
* BackForTheDead: For his grand importance in Volumes 18 and 19, the most that he does in volume 20 is to be soundly defeated by Issei and Vali, and being EatenAlive by Fafnir.
* BeardOfEvil: He has a goatee which matches his evil personality.
* BigBad: Rizevim is the main antagonist of the fourth story saga, with his goal of reviving [[GreaterScopeVillain Trihexa]] causing him to come into conflict with the main characters.
* TheBully: Arguably of the very worst kind. If you're stuck in his sphere of influence, can't run away, and can't fight back, he will brutally torment you to death. Just ask Rizevan Lucifer, Vali's father. If you are strong enough to be a threat, he will either send minions at you, or show up himself, cause as much damage, pain, and suffering as he can, and then run away laughing to somewhere you can't reach just so he can savor your impotent rage.
* CardCarryingVillain: He yells that Devils are supposed to be evil sons of bitches.
-->'''Rizevim:''' (''to Issei'') Listen up, boy. Devils are beings that have to be evil, wicked, brutal, bad, scum, wrong, brute, and vicious. Copying what’s done by a hero? Hero? That is something that a “justice” would do. You know, beings like humans and Angels? And what are we? You do know we are “evil” and “bad” existences? Then isn’t it obvious what we have to do?
* CloudCuckoolander: He's kind of... off. It's hard to tell if he's [[ObfuscatingStupidity doing it on purpose or not,]] but either way, he does a good job at [[{{Troll}} pissing people off]].
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Being eaten alive in half by a dragon isn't a pleasant thought.
* DeadManSwitch: He knows that all of his KickTheDog ForTheEvulz actions have earned him a fair amount of enemies who want him dead (even though he's ultimately killed by someone he didn't expect), so he set things up so that, in the event of his death, his soul will be used to unseal Trihexa.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: He slaps Asia in front of Fafnir and captures Issei's parents... and eventually gets killed for it.
* DirtyCoward: He's a devil who won't show any mercy. However, he resorts to uses cheap tactics and pulls a VillainExitStageLeft once he's overpowered to save himself.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: He may have been defeated by Issei and Vali, and EatenAlive by Fafnir. But all there is left in the fourth arc are [[GreaterScopeVillain Trihexa]], Apophis and Aži Dahāka.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: After slapping Asia in front of Fafnir and capturing Issei's parents just to spite him, he ends up on the receiving end of Vali and Issei's attacks before he gets EatenAlive by Fafnir.
* EatenAlive: His fate, when he gets curb-stomped by Vali and Issei, and Fafnir traps him in his mouth.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: He named Ophis' spawn Lilith after his mother. He also [[spoiler:had the means to asexually produce Pure Devils using what remains of his mother's flesh, but didn't take the opportunity because it would further rot her.]]
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He's completely unable to understand how Issei's parents could still accept him, even after he's been turned into a dragon and when he enters VillainousBreakdown mode, he desperately tries to plead for his life after being defeated by Issei.
* EvilGloating: He loves to gloat about his plans and what he did, especially to Vali and Issei.
* EvilLaugh: He cackles "Uhyahyahyahya!" when he runs away or when he commits evil deeds.
* ExitPursuedByABear: Or "Exit, Pursued by a Dragon". He gets eaten by Fafnir, one of the dragons that he didn't take seriously enough.
* FatalFlaw: He is repeatedly warned that he doesn't take Dragons seriously enough, something that even the Biblical God wouldn't do, and ultimately gets beaten down by Issei combining the power of two legendary dragons, then killed by one while two that were supposed to be his subordinates ditch him and take over his plans.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He has a tendency to be charming and friendly in spite of his true colors.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: There's a damn good reason why Sirzechs' group does not have any Sacred Gear users.
* ForTheEvulz: In Volume 18, he chose to attack Heaven despite already acquiring the items he needs for his grand plan.
** This trope is pretty much his entire motivation for everything he does. He believes that Devils are [[AlwaysChaoticEvil supposed to cause trouble wherever they go]], and admits to setting out on his plans simply because he had nothing else to do with his long life. Each time he shows up, you can be sure that he's going to KickTheDog with a harder kick than the last time he did so. No act is off-limits to him: turning the vampires who cooperated them into Evil Dragons and using them to ravage vampire society, ordering attacks in broad daylight, at a school, or even in the middle another battle, kidnapping Issei's parents and forcing him to transform into dragonic form in front of them, using his soul to unseal Trihexa, and setting up the potential for interdimensional war so that even if Trihexa is resealed, the good guys still have his mess to clean up.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: How he meets his end at the jaws of Fafnir.
* HumiliationConga: Volume 20 is just one long string of events for things to finally catch up to him, in addition to him suffering a RasputinianDeath. In order: Issei finally defeats him with his shiny power-up, Lilith pulls off a HeelFaceTurn after both Vali and Azazel convince her to come with them for her to meet up with Issei, Ophis and Great Red, Vali finally gets to cut off his arm because Rizevim's too weakened to nullify his Sacred Gear, Apophis, and Aži Dahāka pretty much tell him that he sucks, and finally Fafnir crushes his legs before he is EatenAlive for good. He ''still'' manages to get the last laugh, after all that, because his soul was used to awake Trihexa.
* IShallTauntYou: He often uses intimidation, threats and taunting to weaken his enemies.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: He finally gets his comeuppance at the end of volume 20.
* KickTheDog: Every deed that he does is to prove how evil he is.
* LastOfHisKind: As of volume 11, Rizevim seems to be the only remaining leader of the Old Satan Faction left and one of the only members of the original pure-blood descendants of Satan left after his son died. After volume 20, Rizevim is dead and the Old Satan Faction is extinct.
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: Unfortunately for the heroes, he prepared to forcefully remove Trihexa's seals if he were defeated by using his soul as the key.
* NoSell: He is completely immune to Sacred Gears, including attacks amplified by them.
* ObviouslyEvil: The intimidating presence, his devil powers, and EvilLaugh indicate that he is definitely not a good guy.
* OffingTheOffspring: He killed Rizevan for being scared of his grandson's retaliation.
* PersonalityPowers: He's a sociopathic troll who goes out of his way to even piss off the heavy hitters of the Underworld. What could make him more frustrating to deal with than the power to nullify said heavy hitters' power against him with his Sacred Gear Canceller? [[spoiler:On top of making it all the more cathartic when it's overpowered to uselessness using a combination of Issei's Penetrate ability and sheer brute force.]]
* PowerNullifier: Sacred Gears are useless against him [[spoiler:at first]].
* ProperlyParanoid: Rizevim was scared of Vali retaliating against him, so he killed Rizevan. His fear ultimately turns out to be proven right when Vali chased after him and [[AnArmAndALeg cut his arm off]].
* PsychopathicManchild: His general demeanor is comparable to a schoolyard bully.
* RasputinianDeath: Rizevim gets one of the most brutal deaths in the series. First, he gets easily defeated by Issei's Diabolos Dragon, then Vali chops of his arm, ''then'' gets his legs stepped on by Fafnir and is eventually EatenAlive by the latter.
* TheRemnant: He's a former member of the Khaos Brigade.
* SmugSnake: He's a normally competent devil, but he fatally underestimates the Dragons.
* TheSociopath: His actions towards Vali and Issei clearly shows his status as a high-functioning sociopath.
* SoLongSuckers: He often taunts his enemies in this manner whenever he feels that he's outmatched.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He's essentially a middle-aged Vali with a goatee.
* StupidEvil: {{Subverted|Trope}}. He spends his entire existence so fixated on proving himself "the most evil devil ever," even boasting of being a devil that led a successful raid on Heaven, that he's constantly derailing his own plans and endangering his minions through completely pointless cruelty and sadism. However, he ''knew'' it would eventually get him killed when he fucked himself over, so he set up a failsafe in Agares where his soul would unlock Trixeha, just so he could laugh at all the suffering he's caused from beyond the grave.
* SuperpowerLottery: ''[[NoSell No Selling]]'' Sacred Gear abilities [[spoiler:until they become too powerful to ignore.]] And that's not even his true powers yet.
* TooDumbToLive: It's not very wise for Rizevim to hurt Asia in front of Fafnir and threaten Issei's parents in front of him ''that'' soon.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Even though he's one of the most powerful leaders of the Old Satan Faction, he really should have taken Dragons a little more seriously. Especially when Issei beats him in battle.
* UndignifiedDeath: He gets crushed and EatenAlive by Fafnir and can only scream in damnation as he dies.
* VillainExitStageLeft: Whenever Rizevim gets overpowered and loses, he ends up pulling a quick escape.
* VillainousBreakdown: Between Fafnir haunting his dreams, his attempt to break Issei in front of his parents going nowhere, trying and failing to kill them as well when they ''still show affection for their son'', and Issei severely injuring him with a new power-up, Rizevim loses it when he's cornered by Issei and Vali.
* VillainsWantMercy: Spent the entirety of his appearance in Volume 20 bouncing back and forth between begging for his life and screaming profanity at the protagonists when it looked like they wouldn't oblige when he wasn't too busy being smug about brutalizing the friends and family of the protagonists and threatening them.
* WarForFunAndProfit: He didn't even need to unseal Trihexa. Volume 21 reveals, after Apophis is defeated, that Rizevim had been using Agares to open teleportation portals to other worlds and dimensions while bypassing the dimension gap entirely, openly declaring war on the residents, and leaving instructions so that they could do the same and teleport to Earth's mythologies, scared, hurt, and angry. It is even compared in-universe to [[TruthInTelevision internet trolling on social media]], but on a planetary scale.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: He has silver hair... and acts as the BigBad for the fourth story saga.
* WouldHurtAChild: He personally brutalized his son ''and'' Vali, and laughed about it.
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: He says the trope name word-for-word when he realizes his fate the moment Fafnir emerges from the Dragon Gate.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: For this series anyway. He ''is'' Vali's grandfather and he does look like his age, but he's younger than Azazel. Justified in that Devils can magically change their appearance.

* CloneJesus: Lilith is a clone created from the power the Khaos Brigade stole from Ophis. Most people outside the Khaos Brigade think she actually is Ophis due to having to hide the fact Ophis is now living in the Hyoudou Household.
* DeadGuyJunior: Named after Rizevim's mother, Lilith, the mother of all demons in Judeo-Christian mythology.
* HeelFaceTurn: She abandons Rizevim after Azazel and Vali convince her to meet up with Issei, Ophis, and Great Red... and offer her chocolate.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: After her HeelFaceTurn, similar to how Ophis is known to some by the name "Phis" to avoid people knowing who she is, Lilith is called "Leece" in the same manner.
* SweetTooth: Azazel tempts her out of serving Rizevim with some chocolate. This trait was passed down from Ophis.
* ThirdPersonPerson: When she does talk she will refer to herself this way.
* TheQuietOne: She rarely talks, and then only in very short sentences.
