24A race of subterranean humanoids that live in the Hollow, a massive network of tunnels beneath the surface of Sera. They use a variety of bio-engineered beasts for transport, construction, and war. The Locust invaded the surface of Sera six weeks after the end of the Pendulum Wars, beginning a war that would result in the death of 99% of the human population. Their motives for this were revealed in ''Gears of War 3'': [[spoiler:the Lambent were overwhelming the Locust in the Hollow, and after Adam Fenix failed to find a solution, Queen Myrrah invaded the surface to make a new home for the Locust as they continued their war, not believing that humanity could be trusted.]]

42* MadeOfIron: The scaly skin of the Locust is very tough, so tough that it often caused the bayonet of (what would later be known as) the Retro Lancer to snap in two, necessitating the invention of the modern-day Lancer with its chainsaw bayonet. Thankfully, GameplayAndStorySegregation is in effect, so if you're using a Retro Lancer yourself, you can bayonet Locust all day without any problems, although using it ''does'' involve a run-up.

44* OurOrcsAreDifferent: Creator/CliffBleszinski once said in an interview that the inspiration for the Locust Horde came from [[Literature/TheLordOfTheRings the Uruk-hai.]] He explains this by saying that the Uruk-hai tend to be smarter and tougher than regular orcs. As such, he designed the Locust to be smarter than the usual average bunch of "horde" monsters in other settings, via taking cover, not rushing into COG fire, etc.
