[[caption-width-right:350:He is someone who sheds light on the problems of the world, like the sun!]]

The spunky lead, Gao starts playing Buddyfight after opening a Buddy-Rare one day in class and meeting his Buddy, Drum. Gao has a strong sense of justice and wants to protect people who can't defend themselves. He dons the mantle of the Mighty Sun Fighter, a character from a manga written by his now-deceased brother. He and his friends form Team Balle du Soleil for the ABC Cup, which later goes on to compete in the Gaen Cup.

He first played a Dragon World deck with a focus on Armordragons. After Drum returns from his training, he begins to use a variety of decks to take advantage of Drum's new forms, including a Magic World Deck for Dragowizard Magician Drum, a Dungeon World Deck for Brave, Drum and a new Dragon World Deck centered around the Thunder Knight archetype for Thunder Knights, Drum Bunker Dragon.

His Core Deck case is a belt buckle and his Buddy Skill is a flying platform. As of ''Buddyfight Hundred'', he is an officer of the Buddy Police and uses a Hero World deck as well as a Dragon World deck with the Crimson Battler archetype. When Drum becomes an Omni Lord, he starts using a Dragon World deck based around Drum and the Fifth Omni Cavalry Dragons.

In ''Buddyfight Triple D'', he uses the then-new Sun Dragon archetype with his new buddy monster Bal, who can become an Impact Monster. The two compete in a global Buddyfight tournament known as the World Buddy Cup.

In ''Buddyfight X'', Gao has been chosen as Dragon World's representative in yet another tournament known as the World Buddy Masters. He is brought to Dragon World to find a new Buddy and ends up choosing Batzz, whom he uses in a Thunder Empire deck. He eventually acquires a Mirage Card granting him the Thunder Emperor's Fangs flag and leading him to use a new deck centerd around the Overturn mechanic.

In ''Buddyfight X All-Star Fight'', Guru announces the GGG cup in Gao's honor, a tournament consisting of Gao and his strongest rivals as well as all three of his buddy monsters. [[spoiler:In reality, he asked Guru to hold this tournament as he is moving to America closing out Gao's role in the Buddyfight anime leading up to Buddyfight Ace starring his son.]]
----
* TheAce: When he is introduced to the game of Buddyfight, and become a pro at one.
* ActionDuo: He and Tasuku.
* AdventureDuo: Gao and Tasuku.
* {{AllLovingHero}}: Both Gao and Tasuku shared this role together.
* AnimeHair
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: In the past. His nasty attitude, aggressiveness, and tendency to seriously hurt people with his martial arts kept him from getting along with people.
* AFatherToHisMen: His reckless tactics turn out to not be a product of overconfidence, but instead caring for his monsters too much to let them get hurt for his sake. He doesn't budge on this until his monsters themselves insist that they actually are willing to fall in battle for him.
* AllYourPowersCombined: Rather than doing a set amount of damage, "Dragon Lord Initiation, Giga Howling Crusher!!" does damage equal to the added Critical of Drum and Gao.
** The Thunder Emperor's Flag allows for Thunder Empire cards of all worlds to be used. In addition the monsters involved in his deck include Thunder Empire versions of his friends' Buddy Monsters complete with their own Overturns that Gao can use.
** [[spoiler:Protection of Batzz, Dragonificator Gao litterally gives Gao the power of Batzz by combining Batzz and Gao together, even empowers Gao with Batzz's Overthrow.]]
** [[spoiler:Buddyfight X All-Star Fight incorperates all three of his buddy monsters in his deck. To further this, he goes back to Dragon World.]]
* AwesomeByAnalysis: Is often able to read into his opponents strategies and ploys.
* TheAtoner: After OTK'ing Rouga in their first match, Gao realizes how he was unnecessarily harsh and let his anger get ahead of him, pushing [[SecondPlaceIsForLosers Rouga]] further away from the idea that Buddyfights should be fun. This is why he plays a gimmicky, fun Dungeon deck in their rematch.
* BadassAdorable: Despite his spunky personality, he also have cute and sunny personality.
* BestFriend: To his Aibo Academy pals, and his [[FriendlyRivalry friendly rivals]] Tasuku and Gaito.
* BestOutOfInfinity: [[spoiler:The finale of ''Hundred'' shows him and Bolt in one of these, with both at 99 wins.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: Always cool to his little sister Hanako.
* BigBrotherMentor: He's one to Bal in season 3 of Buddyfight since the latter is a newborn.
* BloodKnight: Gao loves battling in a Buddyfight.
* BornLucky: New to Buddyfighting, everyone seems to thinks his wins are based on luck.
** [[spoiler:His luck finally ran out when he faced Ikazuchi.]]
* BrokenWinLossStreak: [[spoiler:Finally loses for the first time to Ikazuchi.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He can be nice and friendly towards others, but when you mess with him and his friends, he means [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness business]].
* BurningWithAnger: His anger towards Doctor Gara for poisoning Bal is what triggered his Dragon Force of Anger.
* ButNowIMustGo: [[spoiler:At the end of Buddyfight X, Gao will be moving to America leading to Buddyfight Ace in the future starring his son.]]
* {{Catchphrase}}: Eclipsing the darkness with flames and brightening the hearts of the mistreated, The Mighty Sun Fighter is here!
* CheerfulChild: On his good days, and during his childhood.
* CoolBigBro: To his little sister, Hanako.
* CoolVsAwesome: He's cool to Tasuku's awesome.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Compared to Gaito's Death Count Requiem.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Ends up befriending those he's defeated in a Buddyfight.
* {{Determinator}}
* ElementalPunch: Gao's Dragon Force "Style of Impact" has a fire-based punch.
* FieryRedhead: When ever he is hot-tempered.
* FireIsRed: Gao's main element is fire.
* FistOfRage: When Gao gets [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness angry]], he loses his pluckiness, and aims his fists straight at them.
* FriendlyRivalry: To Tasuku and Noboru.
* FrillyUpgrade: When receiving his Dragon Force of Anger in Triple D.
* FullPotentialUpgrade: His evolved Dragon Force "Style of Impact" in episode 46.
* TheGhost: He has become this as of ''Buddyfight Ace''. He is constantly refered to, but is never actually shown, with pictures and videos of him being unseen by viewers.
* GlassCannon: For the most part his fighting style in all of his decks focuses on high number of attacks while attacking with his monsters using items and using various shield counter spells to negate attacks. Some of his later decks make him even more fragile due to ether needing to be damaged to trigger effects ([[spoiler: Fifth Omni-lord deck]]) or needing to be [[OneHitPointWonder at critical health to use them]] (Thunder Empire).
* GoodOldFisticuffs: Seems to have a preference for these as his items being a martial artist, to the point where he starts using the Crimson Battler archetype, which specifically supports using Fist type items.
** Even his Dragon Force "Style of Imapact" has these kinds of fisticuff.
* TheHero: Of the first four seasons of Buddyfight.
* HeroesPreferSwords: [[ZigzaggedTrope Zigzagged]] in that while many of Gao's item cards are swords, he also uses plenty of gauntlets as well.
* HeroicBSOD[=/=]StepfordSmiler: Tasuku notes that while Gao's life has been pretty much normal since he [[spoiler:lost to Ikazuchi and Tenbu seemingly got killed]], he hasn't been as cheerful and upbeat as usual. In particular, Gao's speech about heroes suggests that he's lost confidence in himself.
** It's bad enough that he can't even use his Dragon World deck, lets Noboru get kidnapped by Gratos and is then reminded about his losing his brother Yota (to the point where despite having the proper setup he couldn't stop Shigamine from nearly winning against him during their fight). Right afterwards he eventually quits Buddyfighting when he misinterprets Tasuku telling him to solve his own problems.
** HesBack: He gets back into the game after being reminded of why he enjoyed it so much.
* HeroicRROD: His Impacts in season 4 carry a risk of causing this. At one point, it gets him separated from his body and Batzz has to get him back by doing good deeds.
* HotBlooded: He's passionate about everything he does, but he'll often lapse into moments of calm reflection during fights. He starts playing it straight after Bal hatches, to the point that [[spoiler:his Dragon Force is activated by anger]].
* HotWings: His Dragon Force of Anger are what makes his wings hot.
* HowDoIShotWeb: Unlike Tasuku, Gao doesn't know how to activate his Future Force on demand.
* InstantExpert: At Buddyfighting. Despite being a beginner, he manages to win against more experienced opponents and even manages to keep his winning streak intact for the entirety of the first season.
* InvincibleHero: So far won every single one of his Buddyfights as mentioned below. Though in episode 39, he states that he'd rather have lost the fight instead of losing Kiri as a friend.
** Canonically, he won 999 matches in a row, albeit off-screen.
** [[spoiler: No longer is one after losing to Ikazuchi.]]
* JustAKid: He gets that most of the time.
* KidAppealCharacter: His face shows it all.
* KidHero: He's only 12 years old.
* KungFuKid: He apparently teaches Aiki-jujutsu to students at his school.
* TheLeader: Of Team Balle du Soleil.
* LetsGetDangerous: Depending on the context, he will invert his coat and/or move his core deck case from his side to the front of his belt, and on top of all that, may activate Future Force. If all these things are done, Gao becomes the spitting image of the Mighty Sunfighter.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: As his preferred tactic leaves his center open, he relies heavily on Dragon Shield cards to protect him.
* MagneticHero: It's even been noted in-universe.
* OfficialCouple: With [[spoiler:Paruko]].
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When his friends are in trouble, he drops his sunny attitude; and changes into his headstrong attitude.
* OnlySaneMan: Some days he the sane one, but sometimes he acts like a hero and perform stunts.
* PerpetualSmiler: On his good sunshiny days.
* PlotArmor: A ridiculously thick one: of his onscreen duels, he won all but one of them, and the only one he didn't was because he interrupted it intentionally (and was about to win anyways). He even beats opponents that are blatantly cheating. [[spoiler: He finally loses to Ikazuchi in the 14th episode of Hundred, getting Tenbu killed in the process.]]
** This gets toned down in later seasons, especially in X.
* [[PluckyGirl Plucky Boy]]: He's always befriending his opponents after a Buddyfight; which he always believes in.
* PoweredArmor: Has an item card in his Hero World deck that lets him wear a set of it, though he usually only uses the boots and gauntlets outside of finishing moves.
* PowerFist: In his newly evolved Dragon Force "Style of Impact"
* PowerGlows: His Dragon Force of Rage in episode 27 of Triple D.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: His sun-related items and spells in his Dragon World deck.
* PrimaryColorChampion: His red shirt (with yellow and orange) and his blue and yellow jacket are what makes him a [[BornLucky Lucky]] champion of Buddyfight.
* TheProtagonist: Of the first four seasons of Buddyfight.
* RaysFromHeaven: His card "Blessings of the Sun" in Triple D.
* RedHeadedHero: Half of his hair is red, but he's a hero with a warm heart.
* RedIsHeroic: His red shirt and half of his hair.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Tasuku's blue oni.
* RedShirt: Adverted. His red shirt with the sun: symbolizes his heroism and positive attitude.
* RocketPunch: His new [[FinishingMove Impact Cards]] in Hundred are ''city size'' rocket punches launched from space. This becomes a plot point when transport to the moon is needed; Tasuku uses Future Force to make "Dragon Lord Initiation, Giga Howling Crusher!!" real so that it can be used as a space ship.
* ShockAndAwe: Played a Thunder Knights deck during season 1. Then, in ''X'', his new deck is based around the Thunder Empire attribute.
* SignatureMove: The Gao Formation, two monsters on the sides and him with a weapon. It's primary downside is that it leaves his center open, thus decks Baku makes for him will often have a lot of nullify cards and monsters with the move ability. Varitions of this formation involve center monsters that remove themselves from the field and different monsters attacking multiple times.
* SmugSmiler: Whenever he's about to plan an attack during a Buddyfight.
* SuperMode: Gains Future Force in Episode 41.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: His eyes look golden brown.
* SymbolMotifClothing: The sun on his shirt symbolizes he's the Sun Fighter and his passion to help people
* TearsOfJoy: When his Buddy Bal is found in episode 25 of Triple D.
* TechnicianVsPerformer: He's a performer to Tasuku's technician
* VoiceOfTheLegion: His voice changes when using his Impact: Thunder Lance X Tempest Buster in the English dub.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: With Noboru. The two reconcile before Noboru moves.
* TheWorfEffect: He's getting hit hard with this in ''Triple D''. He's already lost once each to Gaito, who has a Darkness Dragon World Impact Monster, and Kakeru, who has a Dual Monster that can NoSell Impact Monsters.

Gao's first buddy, having come to Earth on the advice of his father, who suggested he find someone unconventional he could learn from. His full name and title is Drum Bunker Dragon Fang Slade Terrestrial XIV, but everyone calls him Drum for short. Obviously, he hails from Dragon World. After training in different worlds, he gains access to alternate forms such as Magician Drum.

After Tenbu is devoured, he becomes the next Fifth Omni Dragon Lord after protecting Gao from Ikazuchi's blast. He relinquishes the title back to Tenbu upon the defeat of Yamigedo.

After being gone for two seasons, he returns in ''X2''.
----

* TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects: Almost constantly when he's not in his SleepModeSize or a SuperMode with the exception of the first episode and the second season's finale and a very few other instances.
* ArmoredDragon: Even in his SquishyWizard form, which retains his chest-plate.
** ArmorAndMagicDontMix: Downplayed. He just has less armor than usual in his SquishyWizard form.
* BabiesEverAfter: [[spoiler:When he returns in season 4 he casually reveals that he has a wife now and has at least 10 kids, stating that things have been calm since their tenth kid has grown a bit.]]
* BadassAdorable: In his mini form, he has scaled-down versions of his normal abilities. It helps that his drill shrinks with him.
* {{BFS}}: Wields a katana that's huge even for him while in his Omni Lord Form.
* BlowYouAway: His drill whips up a whirlwind as his attack in his Buddy Police form.
* BrattyHalfPint: In his little form.
* BreakTheHaughty: Starts off bratty and disobedient, treating Gao like he isn't worthy of using him. After the ABC Cup, he feels that ''he'' wasn't good enough for Gao, instead of the other way around.
* BreathWeapon: He can breath fire, but is only seen to do so during his time in Dungeon World.
* TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler:Drum returns during episode 53 of season 4 and remains through the end of the season.]]
* ButNowIMustGo: [[spoiler: At the end of ''Hundred'', where he returns to Dragon World and leaves Gao.]]
* CapeWings: His cape turns into a pair of wings to allow him and Gao to fly.
* DeusExMachina: His Ultimate Neo Dragon form is his own future form pulled through time with the future force.
* DieOrFly: How he finally learns how to use his Buddy Skill.
* DraconicHumanoid
* DragonKnight: His Thunder Knights form. He even recites a BadassCreed when using it.
* FantasticRacism: Hates Dragon Knights with a passion and refuses to be in the same deck as them.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: His Crimson Battler form lets him use punching attacks, though he still has drills attached to his fists.
* HotPaintJob: His armor gets a fire pattern when his Omni Lord form is active.
* HowDoIShotWeb: Spends much of the early series refusing to give Gao his Buddy Skill for various reasons, until he finally admits he doesn't know how.
** Has this reaction to the Omni Lord emblem until it is unlocked.
* IronicName: His Crimson Battler form gives him blue armor.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: When in his Omni Lord form, he wields a huge katana.
* LimitBreak: Overturn Armordragon, Drum Bunker Dragon. As a callback to his fight with Genma, on a link attack with the player, his power goes to infinte, in addition he gains an extra 2 critical and the opponent cannot respond to the attack with a counter.
* [[MassiveNumberedSiblings Massive Numbered Children]]: Somehow manages to get married ''and have ten children in the short amount of time since he left Gao.''
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Drum has a more humanoid appearance than other dragons.
* OutOfFocus: During the ABC Cup - Gao pretty much had things under control without him, Drum would either not be summoned or be defeated easily within the first turn of his summoning.
* OverlyLongName: His full name is Drum Bunker Dragon Fang Slade Terrestial XIV.
** OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Everyone calls him Drum.
* PutOnABus: He goes back to Dragon World to train after the ABC Cup.
** TheBusCameBack: Come back to Gao once he's done.
** He goes back on the bus for good at the end of ''Hundred''.
** Comes back for ''X All-Star Battle''.
* RedIsHeroic: A red dragon who is the buddy of the hero.
* ShapeshifterDefaultForm: When not Buddyfighting he's usually in the chibi form.
* SleepModeSize: Like most Buddy monsters, he can turn chibi so as not to scare people.
* SuperHero: His Buddy Police form is a Hero World monster and has this as its attribute.
** He later gets another Hero World form called Rescue Dragon, Justice Drum simply by wanting to protect Gao so badly that he hallucinates it.
* SuperMode: Gains one in episode 52, Super Armordragon, Drum Breaker Dragon.
** Gains another, temporary one, in the first season's finale: Ultimate Neo Dragon, Drum the Future that apparently runs on the Future Force.
** Kaiser Drum is this for his Omni Lord Form.
* SwissArmySuperpower: He has an ability called Decker Drum's Seven Secrets in his Buddy Police form. Of these, he's used handcuffs, a boomerang, a super nose and a scanner eyepiece.
* ThisIsADrill: His weapon, the Salamander Engine.
** His weapons in other forms also have drills incorporated into their designs and his Ultimate Neo Dragon form is covered in them.
* TookALevelInBadass: He returns from training in various other worlds with a significantly improved understanding of strategy, and the ability to transform and take on the abilities of different worlds.
** And again in the second season when his Omni Lord orb activates.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Pudding and takoyaki. Hell, a few of his many cards even centers around his love of both of these.
* TronLines: He has green ones on his armor and his drill in his Rescue Dragon form. They carry over to his Omni Lord form's weapon.
* TwentyFourHourArmor: Averted. He tends to sleep without it.

Gao's second buddy. A young baby dragon who showed up as a Buddy Rare Gao opened from a booster, hatching from an egg along with the other Sun Dragon archtype cards.
----
* AllYourPowersCombined: [[spoiler: Bal Dragon, Bal-Blaster Granbolt basically combines the best of his other impact monster's forms ablities. It can attack all monsters to clear the field like Lariat, attacks the Figter too like Burst Smasher, and can attack multiple times by paying gadge like Saucer Overrush (though at a cost of 2 guadge per attack instead of 1). It also resembles his evolved form's Bal-Blaster.]]
* ArchEnemy: To Azi Dahaka. [[spoiler:The two have been fighting for eons, with both going into hibernation whenever one is defeated.]]
* ArmoredDragon: Though unlike other Armor Dragons, he uses his to ''make weapons out of.''
* BadassAdorable
* ButNowIMustGo: [[spoiler:Now that he and Gao have defeated Azi Dahaka, he has to go back into hibernation until it is time for them to fight again.]]
** TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler: Comes back in X2 ''by Guru basically pulling him back from his pocket dimension''.]]
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Compared to Drum, who was sent to Earth to learn how to be a true fighter and was cocky yet self-doubting, Bal just hatched and has no understanding of even what Buddyfight was. Also whereas Drum gains more armor in his more powerful forms, Bal ''loses his armor'' to become whatever weapon he's using for his Impact. Mechanically, Drum started out as an average Buddy Monster with Soulguard that eventually had a large swath of different variations and levels of power, whereas Bal's base card is more of a GlassCannon and as one of the first Impact Monsters, it comes with a ''large amount'' of Impact Monster forms.
* DualAgeModes: Notability Bal's fighting form is fully grown in spite of the fact he just ''hatched''.
* FieryRedhead: A hyperactive young dragon with red hair.
* FullFrontalAssault: In his "Bal Burst Smash" form, his armor (which is only on his limbs) explodes from his energy, leaving him in only his goggles.
* {{Gasshole}}: The definitive source of any fart-related humor in the show. Despite his size, Bal is able to fart with enough force to blanket an entire classroom with gas, a skill that he uses to make for quick getaways.
* HeroesPreferSwords: He has one ''sheathed in the middle of his chest''. He uses it as a hilt for his other weapons during Impact Monster attacks.
* HotBlooded: The emotional and hyperactive of Gao's Buddies due to only being recently hatched. His full-size model is also the most expressive of any of them.
* KidAppealCharacter: A young dragon.
* LimitBreak: As an impact monster.
** As Overturn Sun Dragon, Bal Dragon, his Overturn allows Bal to enable an Impact Call from the deck.
* MesACrowd: Does this for Great Full Bal Lariat before absorbing them all for the finishing blow.
* MysteriousPast: Despite being born from an egg that came from the sun, [[spoiler:he is also Balle Soleil, a dragon that fought Azi Dahaka ages ago, only to be said to have entered a deep slumber after the fight, his soul manifesting in the form of the three dragon forces. As such, his true origin is a mystery.]]
* PowerOfTheSun: Bal is a sun dragon.
* ShoulderSizedDragon: He is able to land on Gao's shoulders.
* SmokeOut: See {{Gasshole}} above.
* SoreLoser: Oh, yes. He'll even deny that he lost at all. [[JustifiedTrope He is a baby afterall.]]
* SuperDeformed: In his baby/mini form.
* SuperEmpowering: He can apparently grant [[LimitBreak impact modes]] to other monsters just by giving them blank cards that he draws on. He has no idea how he does it, though.
* SuperMode: Aside from his Impact Forms, [[spoiler:he possesses one in the form of Super Sun Dragon, Balle Soleil. This form grants him SuperSpeed, [[CoolSword Laser Blades]], and is strong enough to match Azi Dahaka. Interestingly, he only turned into Balle Soleil when he was asleep, and possesses no memory of doing so.]]
* TheBusCameBack: Comes back for ''X2''
* ThirdPersonPerson: In addition to his VerbalTic.
* TimeAbyss: [[spoiler:He and Azi Dahaka have been fighting for eons.]]
* VerbalTic: Bal. Unusually, his VerbalTic is what he was named for rather than the other way around.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Bal Dragon, "Great Full Bal Lariat!"

Gao's third Buddy. The most powerful Demon Lord Dragon who once managed to destroy much of Dragon world before he was sealed. Gao unsealed him and made him his buddy. His full name is Barlbatzz Dragoroyale I. A long time ago before his rampage on Dragon World, he led a powerful Thunder Empire which spanned across all of the worlds.

----
* TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects: Continuing the tradition of doing this with Gao's Buddies, though his full-size form does make a brief fully-animated appearance in the first outro of the season.
* AloofAlly: To both Gao and Chibi Panda, only being Gao's buddy so he can fight. At least, [[CharacterDevelopment at first]].
* BigEater: [[RuleOfThree Gao's third buddy that eats a lot.]]
* BloodKnight: Relishes the chance to fight anyone he deems strong.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:His rampage on Dragon World was the result of Wisdom's ancestor putting him under mind control.]]
* ButNowIMustGo: Subverted. Unlike Drum and Bal, Batzz stays with Gao after the end of the series. It's even shown in Supplementary Material in Buddyfight Ace that he stays with him to this day.
* ComicalOverreacting: He does NOT like his mini form.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Compared to Drum and Bal, he's far more experinced and arrogant, having once nearly destoryed Dragon World and leaving a cross fissure. Wheras Drum was rude at times but only fought in Buddyfights and Bal was an innocent kid, Batzz needs to have a sealing card to keep him in line a lot. He's also by far the largest of his Buddy Monsters.
** Gameplay wise, Batzz requires the player to be a OneHitPointWonder to make full use of his powers, as he becomes a 12,000 attack with Triple attack when the Fighter has four or lower life, compared to the more balanced with defense focus play of Drum and the aggressive play of Bal. His later forms which includes his various Overturn abilities allow for an explosive offense and he does not necessarily have to be a low life for it. But as Overturn is a once per Buddyfight ability, players need to determine when to use it.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Despite being a BigEater and having a love for all kinds of foods, he noticeably has a dislike for pudding. This serves as a major contrast to Drum.
* DramaticThunder: He's able to do this for effect.
* FieryRedhead: Another HotBlooded red-haired dragon.
* FireForgedFriends: Batzz originally only teamed up with Gao so that he may fight again. But after Gao's near death experience, Batzz fully respects him as his buddy.
* HeroicBSOD: Goes into one after [[spoiler:losing three matches straight to Geargod]], though he still maintains a grumpy façade. At his lowest point, [[spoiler:he even asks Chibi Panda's father to re-seal him]].
* InstantThunder
* ItsAllMyFault: [[spoiler:He is very guilty when the power from his Impact proves to be too much for Gao during their first match with Wisdom, causing his body to be dragonified and Gao himself to become a ghost.]]
* LargeAndInCharge: Batzz led a "Thunder Empire" before being sealed away and is the largest of Gao's Buddies.
** He's so big that the side platforms of the fight stage must be lowered to fit him in smaller arenas.
** The Thunder Empire itself is not limited to his native Dragon World, it actually spans throughout all of the worlds.
* LargeHam: The most so of Gao's Buddies.
* LimitBreak:
** Overturn, an extremely powerful once-per-game ability given to him and various monsters throughout his Thunder Empire.
** One step further with Overthrow, another once-per-game ability!
* MightMakesRight: Only began to acknowledged Gao after he survived using his impact that could have killed Gao.
* NoSell: As long as it's his fighter's turn, he can't be destroyed.
* {{Pride}}: His ego may well be bigger than his body. He's always off doing whatever he wants and sees his mini-form as an insult to his ego.
* SealedEvilInACan: He was sealed away centuries ago due to the destruction he caused, notably a massive X-shaped fissure covering most of a continent.
* ShockAndAwe: Controls Lighting.
* SleepModeSize: He has a mini-form, but refuses to stay in it such that Gao has to forcibly revert him to it, or even put him back in his card.
* SuperStrength: He can throw CHAOS Yamigedo, a monster several times his (already huge) size.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Though he'll eat almost any food he can get his hands on, he has a particular fondness for pizza and is seen eating it the most.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Once when Gao returned him to his card after Batzz was selfish one too many times, he trapped Batzz with a card sleeve. Even the mighty Demon Lord Dragon was powerless against this.

A dragon (despite his looks) from Dragon World who invited Gao to represent Dragon World in the Buddy Masters cup. He joins with Gao after being impressed with Batzz and becoming his underling.

* AmusingInjuries: Suffers various minor (though still clearly painful) injuries while trying to emulate Batzz in the first outro for season 4.
* BadassAdorable: [[spoiler:After gaining his true form, he's become a key card in multiple strategies, but is no less adorable.]]
* ConspicuousTrenchcoat: Uses a trenchcoat-and-fedora getup to sneak around. It never fools anyone and it turns out that his father uses the exact same outfit.
* DraconicHumanoid: Only in his Saint Holy Sword Dragon form.
* JokeCharacter: Pretty weak and only has Move if your equipped with a Thunder Empire item. His whole look embodies this, looking like a tiny Panda dispite being a Dragon and using a ''plastic popsicle stick as a sword.'' [[spoiler:Turns out the looking like a Panda is hereditary, as his entire family looks like Pandas.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler: After training with Guru and learning to try and become stronger as himself rather than copying Batzz, he gains his respect and his popsicle turns into a sword, allowing him to assume his true form: Saint Holy Sword Dragon.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: Towards Batzz. [[spoiler: In fact, once he evolves into Saint Holy Sword Dragon, he counts as a size 1 monster if Batzz is on the field.]]
