----
[[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3 When Freddy Fazbear's closed down for good]], the horrible events that transpired there became an urban legend, and were burned into the memory of everyone in the surrounding area. 30 years after the chain closed down for good, someone decides to bank on the terror and make a horror attraction based around the legend of the restaurant. It's got everything -- original props from the restaurant, bad electric wiring from the restaurant, and even a night guard ([[RunningGag based off the restaurant]]). One day, a week before it opens, the owners even find an animatronic in a sealed room in the diner. They bring him to the attraction, and everything seems to be in order -- until he begins moving on his own.

!The Phantoms
[[folder:In General]]
A group of seemingly burnt, ghostly figures resembling old foes who sporadically appear throughout Fazbear's Fright. However, they cannot actually harm you, instead acting as distractions that also cause errors, making it easier for Springtrap to get to you. Contrary to popular belief, they appear ''not'' because of faulty ventilation (the danger mentioned by Phone Dude in Night 1 actually refers to the multiple appearances of Springtraps in the cameras); all of them have different triggers not connected to the ventilation. Upon watching the ending in hindsight, they also serve as a {{Foreshadowing}} to the fire that will ravage Fazbear's Fright at the end of the week.
----
* ArtEvolution: ''Help Wanted'' brings some of them back and amps up the Phantom motif, making them far more transparent and, as a result, showing their endo-skeletons. Freddy and Foxy also closer resemble their original models rather than their withered versions.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Especially in Balloon Boy's case, but like Springtrap, they all are much filthier and generally more unnerving to look at than the animatronics from the first two games.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:They all have a burned appearance, which turns out to be prophetic of the fate of Fazbear's Fright.]]
* GhostlyGoals: The interpretation of them as ghosts sets up two possibilities: either they are the ghosts of past victims trying to scare you out of Fazbear's Fright because you are in danger around Springtrap [[spoiler:and/or they knew or caused Fazbear's Fright to burn down and didn't want you to die in the fire]]… ''or'' they are extensions of one ghost, that is Afton's, trying to unbalance you and screw with your equipment for Springtrap to strike.
** The ''Fazbear Frights'' story ''What We Found'', a retelling of 3, implies the latter.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: All of them have much more human versions of these than usual, instantly marking them twice as creepy.
* {{Hallucinations}}: They are supposedly this, so they thankfully can't kill you. Doesn't make the fact that they ''will'' jumpscare you and they look like more decrepit versions of Freddy, Chica, Foxy, Balloon Boy, and the Puppet any more comforting. They can, however, give Springtrap more time to get closer to you, since you need to restart the ventilation that most of them disable after their jumpscare.
* InterfaceScrew: Their primary game mechanic is to cause these. They can't directly kill you, but every moment they're allowed to cause trouble is more time for Springtrap to close in…
* HiveMind: Since they have eyes like Springtrap's, one interpretation of them is that they are additional manifestations of the Murderer's ghost trying to set you up for an easier kill at his hands as Springtrap.
* JumpScare: Four of them do this, but it won't end the game.
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: Supposedly, they're just hallucinations. However, they're also called "phantoms", and there's little indication on why the protagonist would know so much about the "ancient" pizzeria's history (Mangle, for example). The two most common interpretations are that they're paranoia-induced hallucinations combining the fear of the animatronics with the anxiety about fire risk, or that the spirits have returned to Fazbear's Fright and are trying to frighten you away. On the matter of the protagonist knowing them, this is quite likely because he might be [[spoiler:Michael Afton]].
* NoFairCheating: Think you can just have Springtrap stand by the door or window and then stare at him endlessly to win the night? Wrong: trying this will result in Phantom Freddy jumping you [[TheComputerIsACheatingBastard with no wind-up or warning]][[note]]Though given Phantom Freddy usually starts walking from the other end of the hall, it likely is due to the player not seeing him while they focus on Springtrap[[/note]], allowing Springtrap to move in for the kill. Although, most of the time, it's the ventilation failing that gets the player, as it'll disable over time if you're not in either monitor.
* ProphetEyes: Their creepy white eyes are the only parts of them that aren't blackened and burnt.
* RedHerring: When the Phone Dude mentions not having the ventilation on will make you see "crazy stuff", the player would naturally think it means the phantoms. They actually act entirely independent of the ventilation, and the crazy stuff in question is ''multiple Springtraps on the cameras''.
* SupportPartyMember: '''All of them''' are this. The only animatronic that can kill you is Springtrap, but the Phantoms will make it a lot easier for him.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: They didn't appear in the [[http://i.imgur.com/MsyIP5B.jpg original final group shot]]. Justified, since they're simply duplicates of older animatronics. However, they reappear as part of the ''Five Nights at Freddy's World'' teaser, [[https://thefnafarchive.org/teasers/fullimg/47/ sporting the same cute-style as the other characters]].
* WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises: Their eyes are a glowing white iris in a field of blackness.

[[caption-width-right:300:I AM STILL HERE.]]
Freddy's Phantom counterpart, who, despite the name, actually shares his appearance with Withered Golden Freddy. Despite the fact that he might be missing a leg, he appears to get around just fine in the hallway behind the window.
----
* BearsAreBadNews: Considering that he can't kill you, he's only mildly bad news. Still gonna cause you problems, though.
* CompositeCharacter: Phantom Freddy has regular Freddy's ability to stand upright and Golden Freddy's missing ear, protruding wires, and (if you brighten the image) color.
* EvilCripple: He limps through the corridor behind the windows because of what seems to be a missing leg.
* JustIgnoreIt: The best strategy to deal with him. Spot him walking ominously behind the window? Just forget that he ever showed up there and open the monitor. Just like Golden Freddy in the first game.
** {{Averted|Trope}} in ''VideoGame/UltimateCustomNight'', you have to shine your flashlight on him to make him go away.
* RealAfterAll: Phantom Freddy makes the same footsteps sound as Springtrap (as of the most recent update of the game) and both trigger the same warning sound that plays when Springtrap gets close (in Phantom Freddy's case, it's while he's walking across the hall outside the Office).
* YouDontLookLikeYou: While called Phantom Freddy, it more closely resembles ''Golden'' Freddy, since they share the same appearance as in ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys2'' (hat at irregular position, missing ear, wires where said missing ear should be, and has a golden tint).
** In ''Help Wanted'', he more resembles OG Freddy.

%%[[caption-width-right:150:]]
Chica's Phantom counterpart, specifically based on Classic Chica unlike Freddy and Foxy. Her favorite spot is the arcade cabinet, where her face can be seen occasionally. She doesn't like being seen on it, however.
----
* TheCameo: Her full-screen face image appears on a monitor in the ''[=FNaF=] 3''-themed office in ''Ultimate Custom Night''.
* FeatheredFiend: She won't kill you, but she will hinder you in your mission by giving more time for Springtrap to come kill you.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: If you don't count [[AmbiguousGender Phantom Mangle.]]
* ToothyBird: As is the standard for Chica's incarnations.

[[folder:Phantom Balloon Boy]]
!!!'''Appearances:''' ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3'' | ''VideoGame/UltimateCustomNight'' | ''[[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysVRHelpWanted Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted]]''
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phantom_bb_5.png]]
[[caption-width-right:150:Guess who?]]
Balloon Boy's Phantom counterpart, who's missing his signature balloon and sign. He's possibly the most common Phantom, as he can appear on any camera at any moment, and looking at him too long will cause him to jump at you through it.
----
* BalloonOfDoom: Averted. Despite his name, he doesn't actually carry a balloon around this time.
* CreepyChild: Even more than in ''2'', as he can now jumpscare you as well.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Balloon Boy was more playful than malicious and didn't have his own JumpScare. Here, he's every bit as vicious as the other phantoms, and he's even likely to be the first phantom you see.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the ''2'', Balloon Boy was somewhat of a threat, but could still be easily warded off using the mask. Here, however, he can randomly appear on any of the cameras, jump-scaring you if you don't look away and making you waste time rebooting the ventilation system. He also looks much, ''much'' more scary than last time. Subverted in ''Ultimate Custom Night''; he's still an issue, but far less of one compared to the other monitor-based animatronics.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Phantom Puppet]]
!!Phantom Puppet
!!!'''Appearances:''' ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3''
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phantom_puppet_full.png]]
[[caption-width-right:200: It's all in your mind. (Or is it?)]]
The Puppet's Phantom counterpart. Appearing on one camera only, an image of the regular Puppet might appear, only for the Phantom Puppet itself to lower your camera and stare at you for several seconds.
----
* CallBack: When you trigger the Puppet hallucination, it just ''stares'' at you... just like it did to Freddy in ''2''.
* HellIsThatNoise: The grating buzz that plays throughout its hallucination.
* InterfaceScrew: Is probably the worst of them, also playing garbled noises while getting right up in your face and ''staying there'' for a little while, during which he completely blocks your view and prevents you from using the cameras or the maintenance panel. It also disables the ventilation on its way out. Made even worse because other Phantoms you might've triggered can still jump you while it's there, crashing the ventilation early.
* NothingIsScarier: When the Phantom Puppet shows up, it merely fills the screen with its face. If you try to move, it moves with you. That's all it does.
** Speaking of its face, its eyes are all that can be seen. However, if ''[=FNaF=] World'' is to be believed, it has a mouth full of small sharp teeth hidden by the shadows.
* PerversePuppet: Obscures your view, making it much easier for Springtrap to come in and kill you.
* PutOnABus: Doesn't appear in ''VideoGame/UltimateCustomNight'', alongside Phantom Foxy.
* RealAfterAll: May be this. [[https://freddy-fazbears-pizza.fandom.com/wiki/File:298.png Since when do ghosts/hallucinations have reflections?]]

!!Phantom Mangle
!!!'''Appearances:''' ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3'' | ''VideoGame/UltimateCustomNight'' | ''[[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysVRHelpWanted Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted]]''
[[quoteright:167:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phantom_mangle_head.png]]
[[caption-width-right:167:[[MyFriendsAndZoidberg And I'm here, too!]]]]
Mangle's Phantom counterpart. You won't see a lot of it, as it only peaks out the top of your window when you spot it shrouded in shadow on a camera. If there’s one thing is has in common with the original, it's the very loud static, so loud that it only needs to play it rather than jumpscare you.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: Phantom Mangle in ''Help Wanted'' can actually jumpscare the player when viewed on the vent cameras, rather than simply popping up to disable the audio like in the original game.
* AmbiguousGender: As it is with every other version of Mangle.
* BehindTheBlack: The head texture is hidden behind the Office window until its hallucination is triggered, upon which it rises up behind it, dropping down again once the hallucination ends.
* FoulFox: Makes awful noises to distract you.
* HellIsThatNoise: Causes an ear-piercing screech that causes the audio to fail and distracts the player.
* InterfaceScrew: Will play awful garbled noises, preventing you from hearing Springtrap's footsteps and also disabling the audio system.
* NothingIsScarier: Will just lurk behind the Office window, and make static noises. Then it drops out of sight and the hallucination ends.
* RealAfterAll: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDUaqqJGtGk There's also a theory that the Phantom Mangle is this trope too,]] due to being misidentified as a prop and something about trap doors.
[[/folder]]

%%[[caption-width-right:200:]]
Foxy's Phantom counterpart, specifically based on Withered Foxy minus his hook hand. Much like the original Foxy, he heavily dislikes being watched, and is notable for being the only phantom to directly appear in the office. He'll stand on the box of parts, possibly because it has the arm he's missing.
----
* AffablyEvil: If Phantom Mangle or Phantom Puppet are busy haunting you, Phantom Foxy will wait until they are gone (sometimes even longer).
* AnArmAndALeg: His right forearm is torn off.
* FoulFox: Phantom Foxy can't kill you, but he will give you a nasty JumpScare and give Springtrap more time to get to you.
* HookHand: One of only two versions of Foxy to avert this (the other being Funtime Foxy), as his right forearm is missing. However, said forearm could be the one in the box with the salvaged Toy animatronic parts.
* JustIgnoreIt: Like Phantom Freddy. However, the timing window is very short here. The moment you glimpse him standing near the box of animatronic parts from putting down the monitor, ''bring that damn monitor back up again''.
* PutOnABus: One of two Phantoms not to appear in ''Ultimate Custom Night'' in any fashion, alongside Phantom Puppet.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: Phantom Foxy looks completely different from his other incarnations, being the shortest and stoutest of any version of Foxy.
** In ''Help Wanted'', he more resembles OG Foxy.
