Oración Seis is one of the three most powerful dark guilds that make up the Balam Alliance. Though it is one of the smallest guilds in Fiore, comprised of only six members, it wholly lives up to its purported strength, forcing Fairy Tail to team up with Blue Pegasus, Lamia Scale and Cait Shelter, just to fight it. This guild seeks Nirvana, an ancient magic that switches the morality of those affected by its power, in order to drown the world in chaos. After being released from prison seven years later, most of the guild's members leave to join Jellal's vigilante guild, Crime Sorcière.

* AdaptationalBadass: In the manga, they appear relatively early on and are subject to the SortingAlgorithmOfEvil, with later villains in Grimoire Heart and Tartaros overshadowing them. However, in the anime-only Key of the Starry Heavens arc, they reappear again as antagonists after the time-skip, having grown much more powerful. At the very least, they've gotten close to or around the level of pre-time skip Grimoire Heart, considering the comparable trouble they were able to give Fairy Tail at a much later date.
* AdaptationExpansion: Their history at the Tower of Heaven is explored in-depth in the anime adaptation, which explains the reasons for their "prayers": Racer's need for speed comes from his inability to outrun the tower guards; Angel wished she could fade away into the sunny blue skies as a release from the god-forsaken tower; Cobra's OnlyFriend he could confide in was a snake who couldn't speak, and he wished his snake could do the same with him; Hoteye was a poor boy who believed he needed wealth to reunite with his brother, whom he was separated from when they were enslaved; and Midnight, who was tormented by the screams of agony that echoed in the tower, wanted to curl up someplace quiet and sleep in peace.
* BadassCrew: Although they're only six members strong, each one is strong enough to annihilate a guild by themselves, and they command dozens of minor dark guilds. They are so threatening that Fairy Tail joins forces with three other guilds (including a Wizard Saint) to defeat them. Several of them come dangerously close to winning their battles, too, and only lose due to teamwork on their opponent's side and/or betrayal on their own. Shortly upon being released after seven years in prison, they remain such a credible threat that Jellal has to persuade them into performing a HeelFaceTurn to keep them from causing more problems.
* TheBusCameBack: They are brought back as the villains of an anime-exclusive Filler arc, though their characterizations and roster were quite different. They later return in the Tartaros arc, where the majority of the guild ditches Brain and joins Jellal's guild in a mass HeelFaceTurn.
* ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve: The anime reveals that their magic first manifests through their hopeful prayers while they were held prisoner at the Tower of Heaven. However, Brain twists their prayers and drags them all into a dark guild out of a selfish "prayer" of his own to keep his alternate personality locked away.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: They're all former child slaves from the Tower of Heaven who were ripped from their homes and families, some of whom were killed.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Jellal convinces them to join his crusade against Zeref after beating them single-handedly. Downplayed in the anime, which shows that not all of them instantly adhere to his way of thinking, and consider either ditching him or taking him down a second time.
* DoNotCallMePaul: They hate it when others use their real names without their permission, as demonstrated during their fight with Jellal. This disappears after they join Crime Sorcière, dropping their codenames entirely.
* EarlyBirdCameo: All of them, save for Brain, appear in brief shots as children in Erza's flashback during the Tower of Heaven arc.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Sans Brain, they were once just child slaves who happened to possess higher aptitude for magic than any of the other ones in the Tower of Heaven. Fast-forward to the present and they've become the spearheads of one of three most powerful dark guilds in all of Ishgar.
* GivenNameReveal: By the end of the series, Brain remains the only member whose real name is unknown, while some of the others are also revealed to be relatives of established characters.
* GratuitousSpanish: "Oración Seis" is Spanish for "Six Prayers".
* HeelFaceTurn: By the end of the series, everybody except for Brain and Kuradoa ends up switching sides.
* KarmicJackpot: By changing their ways and helping Ishgal in defeating the Alvarez Empire, and later Acnologia himself, their criminal pasts are overlooked and they receive a royal pardon.
* MeaningfulName:
** Their name means Six Demons, fitting given their reputation.
** Each member's codename pertains to his or her personality and talent.
* OneManArmy: It’s been stated that a single member can defeat an entire guild by themselves.
* PlotIrrelevantVillain: This guild has no connection to the main villain like the masters of Grimoire Heart and Tartaros do, and their impact on any overarching plot outside a handful of villains' backstories is minimal at best.
* PowerAtAPrice: The guild reportedly made a DealWithTheDevil in the anime-only Key of the Starry Heavens arc, needing to sacrifice something to achieve greater powers: Midnight's "future", Cobra's sight, Racer's heart, Angel's lifespan, and Grim Reaper/Erigor's memory, to list the known sacrifices.
* RecruitingTheCriminal: After they're freed from prison, Doranbalt sends Jellal and Merudy after them to make sure they don't cause trouble. Jellal then offers them a chance to join his guild after he defeats them all.
* SameCharacterButDifferent: The four returning members in the Key of the Starry Heavens Filler arc are quite different from their manga personalities: Midnight, a quiet yet deadly Sleepyhead, is a boastful EvilGenius and TheLeader of the guild named Brain II in an attempt to better fill his "father" Brain's footsteps; Cobra, a SmugSnake, has become TheStoic since his loss of Cubellios; Racer, a HotBlooded speed fanatic, has gone completely AxCrazy due to sacrificing his "heart"; and Angel, a bratty Jerkass, has become TheOphelia due to her life-sacrificing magic.
* ShoutOut: They share their name with Manga/RaveMasters Oración Seis, which is known as the "Oración Six" in English publications of that series.
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: As the first of the Balam Alliance introduced, it is also the smallest and weakest of them, the one with the most sympathetic characters overall, the only one whose core members have both shown up in full for more than one story arc, and the most of whom have fully reformed.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: Unlike most guilds, Kodansha and Funimation refer to this guild collectively as "the Oración Seis".
* TookALevelInBadass: After the first TimeSkip, most of them get new magic or enhanced versions of their old ones, making them a serious challenge when they gang up against Jellal.
* TragicVillain: Despite their horrific acts, they are all at least somewhat sympathetic due to their enslavement at the Tower of Heaven and their wishes, with the exception of Brain/Zero and Kurodoa, both Generic Doomsday Villains. However, they all manage to gain their happy endings.
* TrueCompanions: Unlike the other dark guilds, where most members don't care about their colleagues or have no problem killing them if they prove to be a nuisance, these guys have a genuine bond with each other. The one exception to this is when Midnight fights Hoteye after the latter's HeelFaceTurn, yet seven years later they don't seem to hold it against each other.

The leader of the Oración Seis is a man whose mind is split between two personalities: Brain, a self-proclaimed genius and inventor of countless dark magics; and Zero, the true guild master, whom Brain keeps sealed away using the "prayers" of his followers. He sets his eyes on acquiring the legendary forbidden magic Nirvana, though his two selves wish to use it for wildly different reasons, with Brain seeking to establish a new world order by destroying all official guilds, and Zero craving nothing but total destruction.
----
!!!Tropes that apply to both:

* ArcVillain: Of the Nirvana arc, where he (as Brain) plans to use the morality-switching influence of Nirvana to upend the world of magic so dark guilds may reign supreme. When he and the rest of his guild are defeated, his SplitPersonality Zero (the true guild master) takes the reigns so he can destroy everything with Nirvana.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: His Dark Capriccio spell is described as a piercing attack that can bore through Jura's nigh-indestructible Iron Rock Wall spell.
* AssholeVictim: He's shown to be a truly abhorrent boss to his subordinates, on top of just being a cruel, dog-kicking asshole in general, so nobody, not even Midnight, who was the "closest" to him, sheds a tear when Cobra offs him.
* BadBoss: Brain has absolutely zero respect for his adoptive "children", seeing them as mere pawns used to keep his alter ego Zero in check. Zero, meanwhile, doesn't care for his guild at all and casually crushes his former, fully sentient staff beneath his boot.
* CastingAShadow: He uses the darkness-based variety, which consists of green energy attacks. Brain uses his staff Kurodoa to conjure them, while Zero can use his hands.
* DarkIsEvil: His spells are depicted with a SicklyGreenGlow, and most of them even begin with the word "dark".
* EvilVersusOblivion: The conflict between Brain and Zero boils down to this - the former wants to remake the world with the Dark Guilds in power, while the latter wants to destroy everything.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: While he poses a threat to the kingdom's guild network on his own terms, his reasons for doing so are vaguely defined. He's simply a Jerkass with a SplitPersonality whose only moral dilemma is whether he should control or destroy everything.
* InTheBack: As soon as Cobra releases the guild from prison, he rips a hole in Brain's side for his manipulations and leaves him for dead.
* JekyllAndHyde: A variation in that both of his split personalities are evil, but it's clear to everyone that Brain is the lesser of the two compared to Zero, who is Brain's SuperpoweredEvilSide and an OmnicidalManiac seeking to destroy all life. This includes Brain himself, who sealed Zero away precisely because of how dangerous he is (not to mention that their goals are mutually exclusive).
* MusicalThemeNaming: Two of his attacks, Dark Rondo and Dark Capriccio, are named after musical forms.
* OnlyKnownByHisNickname: The names "Brain" and "Zero" are codenames for his two personas, his true name remaining unknown.
* OrderVersusChaos: Both his personalities represent different ends of the spectrum. Brain embodies "order", valuing intelligence and meticulous control, while Zero embodies "chaos", craving violence and wanton destruction.
* PurpleIsPowerful: His Darkness Magic has a SicklyGreenGlow, but the magic circles themselves are purple and lives up to the 'powerful' description in either form.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Trope with Brain, who is actually weaker than his subordinate Midnight, but played straight by Zero, who is both the most powerful member of Oración Seis and its true master.
* SicklyGreenGlow: All of his dark spells have a green glow in the anime that make their victims feel nauseous.
* SplitPersonalityTakeover: Brain is most often in control thanks to the Organic Link seal on his body, but once he and his guild are defeated, the seal breaks and Zero takes over.
* Telepathy: He is capable of this ability. Brain is able to use this to lure Fairy Tail and their allies into a trap by masking his telepathic voice as Hoteye's.
* UncertainDoom: He is last seen lying lifelessly on the ground after Cobra tears through him in the Tartaros arc. Although he is assumed dead by his guild, he isn't ever truly confirmed dead, but he is never seen again, either.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: The only things Brain and Zero have in common are their silver hair and complete lack of morals.

!!!Tropes that apply to Brain:

* AmbiguouslyBrown: He is one of the few dark-skinned characters in an overall Eurasian fantasy setting, but his silvery white hair makes it difficult to pin down what race he is supposed to be.
* ArtEvolution: In his earliest appearances, he has a much more prominent brow, the bridge between his eyes are completely black, and he wears his coat's huge fur hood. His appearance is streamlined as the series progresses.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Serves as such for the Nirvana arc. It's zig-zagged by the fact that the villain who replaces him is his own SplitPersonality.
* EvilGenius: He claims to have earned the title of "Brain" while he was head of the Ministry of Magical Development (the same institution where Ultear was held captive and experimented on).
* EvilMentor: He mentored Jellal at the Tower of Heaven back when he was looking for recruits to his guild.
* EvilSoundsDeep: He has a deep, authoritative bass voice fitting for the commander of a dark guild that thirsts for world domination.
* FurAndLoathing: His PimpedOutCape and pants are lined with huge tufts of fur.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Explored only in the anime, where it's shown he is responsible for Ultear's predicament and caused her to fall in with Hades, who had her manipulate Jellal to his evil actions, ironically coming full circle when Brain needs him to unlock Nirvana.
* KickTheDog: After shooting Cobra InTheBack and telling him to "rest" after his battle with Natsu, he telepathically taunts him over his loss and calls him a fake Dragon Slayer.
* KneelBeforeZod: Demands Lucy, Gray and Jura to bow before him while threatening to blast them with dark magic. Jura responds by unleashing a hail of rocks and going on to kick him to the curb.
* LaserGuidedKarma: In the Nirvana arc, he shoots Cobra in the back after Cobra loses to Natsu. Seven years later, he's subject to the same fate courtesy of Cobra in the Tartaros arc.
* MagicStaff: He casts spells with his skull-headed staff, Kurodoa, which has a mind of its own.
* ManipulativeBastard: He takes five child slaves under his wing and promises them a life of freedom where they can live out their dreams if they pray hard enough. He then links these prayers to a magic seal to keep his alter ego Zero from taking over. When Natsu accuses him of treating his guild like puppets, Brain doesn't try to argue.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: The anime shows him being the one behind the extremely painful experiments Ultear was subjected to as a little girl.
* PermaStubble: He has a bit of hair on his chin after the TimeSkip.
* PitifulWorms: He considers all official guild wizards to be mere swarms of maggots.
* TattooedCrook: Has tattoos all across his face. They are magic "keys" that seal away his SuperpoweredEvilSide.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Jura had been incapacitated by Angel when the guild alliance was initially trashed by Oración Seis, so when the two actually meet later, Brain deems him to be just another maggot to be stepped on. Jura completely kicks his ass as a result.
* WouldHurtAChild: He kidnaps Wendy and has no qualms about beating her should she refuse to cooperate with him.

!!!Tropes that apply to Zero:

* AxCrazy: He's a nutjob who yearns to completely destroy his enemies without leaving a single trace.
* BlackEyesOfEvil: His eyes in the manga appear dark with light-colored pupils when he first awakens, but become normal-colored in the rest of his appearances, only briefly changing back as he casts Genesis Zero.
* BloodKnight: Zero craves destruction and greatly enjoys his fight with Natsu.
* CardCarryingVillain: He shamelessly admits that he has no reason to destroy everything, nor does he need one.
%%* ChunkyUpdraft: As Zero, in the anime.
* DiabolusExNihilo: His existence only gets minimal Foreshadowing at most, is quickly explained as soon as he makes his appearance, and proceeds to trash the heroes and everything in his path for literally no reason whatsoever other than because he can.
* TheDreaded: Kurodoa goes from gloating about victory to crapping his metaphorical pants when he realizes that Zero's been unsealed. Even Brain himself was terrified of what he could do if given free reign and sealed him away with his Organic Link magic. From the reactions of the other Seis when Midnight uses his illusions to bring Zero back, they're just as afraid of him as well.
* EvilSoundsRaspy: He speaks with a much more gravelly voice, emphasizing his wild and brutal nature.
* ForTheEvulz: Zero has no motivation or plans beyond the destruction of anything and everything he encounters.
* GreenAndMean: Wears a green, almost military-like outfit, and his BattleAura is a dark green. He's also one of the most unashamedly evil beings in the series.
* KickTheDog: He decides out of nowhere to smash his fully sentient staff Kurodoa just because he can.
* KungFuWizard: Unlike Brain, who mostly stayed still while firing off massive laser beams, Zero is far more physically active and kept up the pace with Natsu while the latter was using Dragon Force.
* OmnicidalManiac: Zero's sole purpose in life is to destroy all that has physical form.
* PowerOfTheVoid: His ultimate attack, Genesis Zero, summons ghostly apparitions that effectively erase their victims from existence. It doesn't work on Natsu, though, who burns that magic away with his golden flames.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His eyes in the anime have blood-red scleras.
* ReverseArmFold: His usual arm position.
* SealedEvilInACan: Brain sealed Zero away with Organic Link magic powered by the strongest desires of the other Oración Seis members. Zero comes out when all six are defeated.
* SlasherSmile: Constantly sports one while fighting, further disassociating him from the more intellectual Brain.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Brain was never much of a boy-scout to begin with, but his split personality, Zero, is far worse; whereas Brain wants to use Nirvana to establish a new world order and only intends to destroy the single guild that would hinder his plan, Zero wants to use Nirvana to wipe out everything and sees destroying said guild as just the first step of that. He's also much stronger than Brain, as proven when Brain was beaten rather easily by Jura while Zero himself fought evenly against Dragon Force-empowered Natsu.
* WalkingSpoiler: His whole existence is kept heavily under wraps until after the rest of his guild is beaten.
* TheWorfBarrage: Zero's Dark Capriccio alone is able to easily knock Natsu around during their rematch, and Natsu is barely able to counter it with a Fire Dragon's Iron Fist that still has enough force to launch him backwards as he visibly struggles against it. When Zero tries to launch another one at Natsu once he goes Dragon Force, Natsu almost contemptuously knocks it away with a backhand without batting an eye, prompting a small OhCrap from Zero before he kicks the fight into high gear to match him.

Cobra is a second generation Dragon Slayer who can hear any sound, no matter how soft or far away they may be. He uses Poison Dragon Slayer Magic, which produces toxins that leave his victims writhing in agony. Despite his animosity with Natsu, he becomes a begrudging ally of his fellow Dragon Slayers whenever they are faced with dragons that threaten humanity.
----
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: During his fight with Natsu he uses his powers to read his mind and after an intense stare down..snorts with laughter and admits that "it was a good one".
* AlasPoorVillain: After Brain shoots him InTheBack for losing to Natsu, Cobra tearfully despairs over how he believes he'll never be able to hear Cubellios' voice now. Even Natsu shows him a bit of sympathy.
* AnimalMotifs: Snakes, given his codename, pet snake Cubellios, and his ability to feed on venom as a Poison Dragon Slayer.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: He looks down on Natsu for being an "old generation" Dragon Slayer, and even calls Natsu a liar for saying he learned his magic from a dragon, who are widely believed to have gone extinct.
* BadassLongcoat: Every outfit he has comes with one.
* TheBeastmaster: In the Nirvana arc, he never fights without his trusted snake companion, Cubellios, who can poison opponents and recharge Cobra's magic by spewing toxic gas. She can also sprout wings and become a GiantFlyer.
* BoxedCrook: He returns in the Grand Magic Games arc after being freed from prison on Jellal's favor to lend his dragon-slaying skills to assist in warding off the dragon invasion. Once the ordeal is over, he's brought back to jail.
* BreakoutVillain: Originally conceived as a one-time villain for the Nirvana arc, he has since made several returns as a villain (including in an anime Filler arc) and a begrudging ally. Eventually he pulls a HeelFaceTurn and joins Crime Sorcière, later participating in the FinalBattle with his fellow Dragon Slayers.
* BreathWeapon: Par the course for Dragon Slayers, his Poison Dragon's Roar allows him to breathe a cloud of toxic gas.
* BullyingADragon: He taunts Natsu by telling him dragons no longer exist in the world. He gets an authentic-sounding dragon's roar for his trouble.
* CatchPhrase: "I can hear it."
* CombatClairvoyance: His Telepathy lets him read his opponents' attacks in advance and respond accordingly. Even should they somehow shut out their own thoughts, he can still use his hearing to less accurately predict their attacks via their body functions like heartbeats, breathing, and muscle movements.
* ConvenientlyTimedDistraction: He has a bad habit of leaving himself open by being easily distracted even when he's overwhelming his foes. This came to a head during his Neo-Oracion Seis tenure in a fight against Erza. As soon as he sensed Cubellios on the ground below, all his attention became focused on her instead of Erza, leaving himself wide open for Erza to strike him down.
* TheDogBitesBack: After waiting seven years for the opportunity, he shoots Brain InTheBack during the Tartaros arc for doing the same to him for his failure in the Nirvana arc.
* EleventhHourRanger: Shows up in the Grand Magic Games arc as the seventh Dragon Slayer to fight Future Rogue's seven dragons.
* EnemyMine: Before his official HeelFaceTurn, he teams up with Natsu against Future Rogue's dragons in the Grand Magic Games arc.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite his villainy, he is shown to be very close to Cubellios, his OnlyFriend. The anime further emphasizes this when he turns to give her a soft smile while Natsu and Happy are busy ignoring him.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He'd never betray his own allies the way Brain did to him. Also, if he makes a deal, he will follow through with it, as shown when he joins the fight against Future Rogue's dragons, and honors the agreement to return to jail afterwards.
* EyeScream: His scarred right eye is permanently shut. According to the anime, he sacrificed it for greater power, though no other explanation for it is given outside of that.
* FingerLickingPoison: Courtesy of being a Poison Dragon Slayer, eating poison has a reverse effect on him, refueling his magic power.
* FriendToAllChildren: Played with. The Rhodonite substory of Fairy Tail Gaiden shows that he is sympathetic towards children, especially those that have been enslaved, since he was a slave himself once. However, when their slaver brainwashes them into fighting, Erik shows he WouldHurtAChild, if only to free them from his control.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has a scar over his right eye after the TimeSkip.
* HellbentForLeather: He wears red leather pants with TooManyBelts around his legs in the Nirvana arc.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: In the anime adaptation of the Tartaros arc, Jellal explains that Cobra doesn't just want to hear Cubellios's voice; he wants a friend to share his story with.
* KungFuWizard: Cobra is noted to be excellent at hand-to-hand combat, able to match and even surpass Natsu thanks to his Telepathy. And that's before he turns on his Dragon Slayer magic.
* LogicalWeakness: His Telepathy is useless if his opponent isn't aware of their own thoughts or acting purely by instinct. Also, his hyper-sensitive hearing makes him particularly vulnerable to loud noises when done at point blank.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: When he frees his guildmates out of loyalty for them, he makes a point of killing his leader Brain, not only as personal retribution for having pulled a YouHaveFailedMe on him in the Nirvana arc, but also due to him knowing that Brain doesn't value any of them and just sees them all as pawns.
* MrExposition: He's surprisingly well-informed about Tartaros, and he trades this information to secure Oración Seis' release from prison.
* MythicalMotifs: Dragons, just like the rest of the Dragon Slayers.
* NamedByTheAdaptation: His real name, Erik, was originally revealed the anime's Key of the Starry Heavens Filler arc.
* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: He manages to secure his guild's freedom by offering intel on Tartaros to Doranbalt. Doranbalt is desperate at this point and accepts, but has Jellal hook up with them to keep an eye on the group as insurance.
* OfficialCouple: The finale reveals that Kinana (Cubellios's human form) hooked up with a man named Erik, all but stated to be this guy. In 100 year quest, they are confirmed to be engaged
* OnlyFriend: Before the TimeSkip, he maintained that he only ever viewed Cubellios as his true friend, even if he did at least respect his fellow guild mates. After the TimeSkip, he seems to view the rest of them as his friends too, with the obvious exception of Brain.
* PetTheDog: When offered a chance at freedom by Doranbalt, he refuses unless he frees all of the Oración Seis, showing that he values them all (except for Brain - he wanted him released so he could kill him himself).
* Plaguemaster: He is generally a PoisonousPerson, but he describes the effects of his Poison Dragon Roar as a virus that eats away at his opponents from the inside.
* PointyEars: For some inexplicable reason, he has these. Probably because of his Pun sharp hearing.
* PoisonousPerson: As the Poison Dragon Slayer, he can produce poison that's both corrosive and toxic, slowing down his victims' movement before eventually causing death.
* RedBaron: He's known as the "Poison Dragon", clearly because of his Poison Dragon Slayer magic.
* RuggedScar: He returns after the first TimeSkip with a scar over his right eye, but is no less dangerous.
* ScaledUp: In the Nirvana and Key of the Starry Heavens arcs, Cobra's arms are covered in draconic scales when he activates his Poison Dragon Slayer powers. This feature was dropped from the Grand Magic Games and Tartaros arc, but then returned in the Alvarez Empire arc.
* ShapingYourAttacks: His Poison Dragon's Fang Thrust has him form a giant fanged serpent head out of poison.
* SlasherSmile: He has a sadistic grin just about all the time, even when he's on the side of good.
* SnakesAreSexy: His codename is Cobra, he has a giant snake as a companion, and he's quite a looker.
* SssssnakeTalk: Averted in the Japanese version and Funimation's English dub, but played straight in the Animax dub.
* StrongAndSkilled: Has the typical destructive power of a Dragon Slayer, with the extra effectiveness against any living thing that comes from his element being poison, as well as the usual level of physical prowess expected of them. He also has incredibly sharpened hearing (to the point of acting as Telepathy), which he combines with refined hand to hand skills to make for a devastating KungFuWizard, not even needing to break out Dragon Slaying Magic to trounce Erza, and only barely losing to Natsu.
* SuperSenses: His hearing so good, he can sense people's emotions through their voices, the sound of their muscles expanding and contracting, and even Telepathy their very thoughts. This naturally becomes his weakness when Natsu unleashes a legitimate dragon's roar at point blank range, deafening him.
* TechnicolorPoison: His Poison Dragon scales are reddish-purple in the anime, while the poison he creates is crimson.
* Telepathy: Played with. He can hear a person's thoughts not because he's specifically a telepath, but because his hearing is just that good.
* WeaksauceWeakness:
** He is ultimately felled by Natsu screaming into his ears, which is too much for his hypersensitive hearing to handle. Being a Dragon Slayer, he also suffers from crippling motion sickness once his magic reaches a certain stage of development over the second TimeSkip.
** Erik is so used to hearing the thoughts of other people that he is not used to block his own thoughts. This makes him vulnerable to other telepaths that Warren Rocko (one of the weaker mages in Fairy Tail but has greater control in his Telepathy Magic) can probe his mind and reveal his embarrassing thoughts effortlessly. This freaked out Erik so much that he considers Warren more of a threat than Laxus or Erza.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Brain shoots him InTheBack just for losing to Natsu in the Nirvana arc. He survives to repay the favor in the Tartaros arc, however.

In the Neo-Oración Seis, Cobra sacrifices his right eye's eyesight in exchange for magic that lets him amplify any sounds he hears to produce destructive sonic attacks. He searches relentlessly for Cubellios, whom he was separated from seven years ago.
----
* BadassCape: He trades out his BadassLongcoat for a cape.
* DeathByIrony: Cobra actively tries to find Cubellios to almost an obsessive degree. He gets his wish when he hears her voice in the middle of his fight with Erza, at which point she defeats him while he's distracted. Downplayed since he doesn't actually die.
* GreenEyedMonster: After losing his OnlyFriend Cubellios, he becomes incensed about the bonds of friendship Fairy Tail shares and routinely calls them worthless. Erza calls him out on his envy during their last fight.
* HandicappedBadass: He exchanged the sight of his right eye for improved sound magic. Nevertheless, he is just as effective in battle as he ever was thanks to his keen sense of hearing.
* HeartbrokenBadass: Platonic version, losing Cubellios really made him a lot more reserved and hostile towards friendships in general. He gets over it when he meets Kinana/Cubellios again.
* IWillFindYou: He promises to find Cubellios after they are separated over the TimeSkip. He succeeds, but their reunion is cut short when the Council shows up to arrest him.
* KickTheDog: When Max throws himself in front of an attack meant for Erza, Cobra takes a moment to mock Fairy Tail's friendships while simultaneously noting to himself that without Cubellios, he has no such thing.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: He develops this attitude towards Erza over the arc, due to her strength and because her chipping away at his current attitude irritates him. When Sugarboy shows up to interrupt the fight, not having gotten the memo the Legion and the Neo-Oración Seis are enemies, Cobra takes him out himself for getting in the way.
* OnlyWorksOnce: Natsu's screaming doesn't work on Cobra this time, since now he can blast the sound back at who knows how many times the volume.
* ShooTheDog: He does this to Kinana/Cubellios when the Council shows up so she won't be arrested with him.
* TheStoic: He's much more emotionally reserved during the arc compared to the Nirvana arc due to losing Cubellios. Meeting Kinana/Cubellios again breaks him out of it.
* SuperScream: He's improved his sound magic to the point that he can absorb any sound he hears and blast it back in a deafening wall of sound.
* VillainousBreakdown: As Erza chips away at his reasons for fighting and his envy at friendships, Cobra's calm nature starts to crack as he begins to call her words "grating" and gets more determined to kill her. Near the end, he's practically roaring in determination.

Racer is a speed maniac who can slow down the perception of time for all living being around him, making him appear to move faster than the human eye, only managing to achieve true speed magic after seven years in prison.
----
* AnimeHair: He has blonde and black hair, with the blonde part shaped into a mohawk.
* BadassBiker: He proves himself to be one, and he'd need to be since one of his spells involves the control of motorcycles.
* BerserkButton: He loves going fast, and hates anyone who stops him.
* CommanderContrarian: In the anime, he's the member of the group who's the least enthusiastic about joining Jellal and Merudy, with the others either being for it (Hoteye and Angel) or are at least ambivalent to it (Cobra and Midnight). He spends the most time questioning Jellal and his desires, and he even tries to convince the others they should try their luck at fighting Jellal together again, to which Cobra replies he's being stupid.
* CoolBike: His other magic, Dead Grand Prix, can produce them out of thin air.
* DelinquentHair: He sports a blond mohawk.
* FragileSpeedster: When he's caught off guard while not punching and kicking, he's as vulnerable as any normal human.
* FreudianExcuse: His obsession with speed and being the fastest was born from his past as a slave within the Tower of Heaven and how, no matter how hard he tried, he could never outrun the guards or their monsters and was always caught.
* GagNose: He has a long, cone-shaped nose.
* GlasgowGrin: Downplayed, but the sides of his mouth has stitches.
* KungFuWizard: He's a very skilled unarmed fighter which, when combined with his magic, allows him to quickly attack opponents with punches and kicks.
* PowerGlows: The lines on his jumpsuit in the Tartaros arc glow red when he uses his magic in the anime, resembling his outfit in the Key of the Starry Heavens arc.
* PowerMisidentification: He pretends to have SuperSpeed, but what his magic actually does is slows those around him down.
* RetCanon: In the manga, he quite clearly kills himself with a bomb (including a shot of his dead body once his whole guild is defeated), but fails to kill Lyon. The anime changes the scene so Lyon cuts the bomb off of him and defends themselves from the blast with an ice shield before it explodes, saving his life in the process. He was considered SparedByTheAdaptation until his return in the Tartaros arc completely overlooked his death.
* SinisterShades: He always wears racing sunglasses, and is a member of a dark guild.
* SpeedBlitz: His primary method of attacking.
* SuperSpeed: Subverted. He appears to move faster than the human eye at first, but Lyon figures out his magic doesn't make him faster; it makes everyone else slower. Played straight after the TimeSkip, where he has achieved genuine Super Speed.
* TakingYouWithMe: To Lyon, though it didn't work, as even he himself survived.
* TimeStandsStill: His magic allows him to slow down time in a given area, allowing him to simulate SuperSpeed.

!!In the Key of the Starry Heavens arc

In the Neo-Oración Seis, Racer has achieved his desire for genuine speed, but at the cost of his own humanity and "heart", becoming a twisted shell of his former self.
----
* AxCrazy: He shows signs of this after sacrificing his "heart" for more power, acting more like a wild animal than a man.
* BrokenTears: He finally breaks down at the end of his fight and talk with Mirajane, finally regaining his heart and realizing how far he's sunk.
* DoppelgangerAttack: Pulling out even more power fighting Mirajane allows him to create several copies of himself from pure speed which can act independently of each other. Once Mira grabs the real Racer, however, the others vanish.
* PrimalStance: He's commonly shown on all fours, behaving like a feral beast. He finally stops when Mirajane beats him, signifying the return of his human reason.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: He wears a red and black jumpsuit, and behaves in a more feral manner.
* TheSoulless: While he's described as having sacrificed his heart, his savage behavior is more in line with this trope.
* SuperSpeed: It's not the TimeStandsStill knockoff variety in this arc; he's now every bit as fast as he ever wanted to be.
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: Mirajane finishes their fight as such, but only after beating the crap out of him first.
* VillainousBreakdown: When Mirajane starts keeping up and surpassing his speed, he starts to have flashbacks to his jailers in the Tower of Heaven, causing a minor FreakOut that gets worse.

Hoteye is Wally Buchanan's older brother who believes that money is the answer to all the world's problems. His Heaven's Gaze ability allows him to see across great distances and through solid objects, and his Liquid Ground spell can transform the ground around him into quicksand.
----
* BadassPreacher: He is dressed in a cleric's uniform and is commonly seen carrying a book, giving off this vibe as he engulfs enemies in quicksand.
* TheBrute: Is the most physically imposing member of the Oración Seis, with even his magic being the most obviously destructive Earth Magic. Subverted after his HeelFaceTurn, becoming a GentleGiant.
* CharacterExaggeration: Compared to its more sparing use in the manga, his VerbalTic (an overly pronounced "desu ne!") is used so frequently in the anime that it's practically a CatchPhrase, and is used by other characters.
* DishingOutDirt: Hoteye's magic deals with liquifying the ground to create quicksand, which he can control at will.
* EvilRedhead: Although his motives are more sympathetic, he's a member of a dark guild.
* GentleGiant: He is the largest member of his guild, but once he turns away from his greedy and destructive ways, he turns out to be the most peaceful member of the group.
* Greed: He's absolutely obsessed with money, thinking that it can solve his problems. It's revealed that he's so greedy because he believes that if he has enough money, he can finally be reunited with his brother.
* HeelFaceBrainwashing: For the briefest instant, he questions whether or not money is the answer to reuniting with his brother. Since Nirvana is activated when this happens, he immediately turns good on the spot and assists the heroes in stopping his guild. Because he was GoodAllAlong, his HeelFaceTurn sticks well into the TimeSkip.
* LongLostRelative: He turns out to be the older brother of Wally, one of Erza's childhood friends.
* LoveFreak: After his HeelFaceTurn, his obsession with money gets replaced with love.
* LoveRedeems: His genuine desire to reunite with his brother makes him the most susceptible to Nirvana's influence out of all the Oración Seis members, making him the first member of the guild to undergo a HeelFaceTurn.
* MoneyFetish: He has a love for money, preaching about his own personal anecdotes about money and riches.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: His geometric face stands out among the cast.
* PersonalityPowers: His ability to soften the earth with his magic relates to his and his brothers childhood spent tending to hard soil to grow crops in order to feed themselves.
* PowerUpgradingDeformation: It's implied that his bizarre, angular face came about as a result of his magic much like his brother Wally, especially since he looked like a perfectly ordinary boy in the anime.
* SinisterMinister: Dresses like a stereotypical old-timey Protestant, yet is obsessed with money and has worked for a dark guild.
* TearsOfJoy: PlayedForLaughs when he is redeemed by the powers of Nirvana and tears cascade down his face. It's later played more seriously when Erza tells him his brother is alive and well, causing him to weep out of gratitude.
* TopHeavyGuy: His torso is much larger than his legs.
* VerbalTic: He ends every other sentence with "desu ne!" ("Is it not?"), changed to "Oh, yeah!" in the English dub. In the anime, it's briefly reversed to become "desu yo!" ("It is!") after his HeelFaceTurn.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: His dream is to one day reunite with his missing brother, which he thinks he can achieve if he has enough money. He is thus overcome with crushing greed.
* XRayVision: Hoteye's "Heaven's Gaze" ability lets him see long distances and through solid objects.

Midnight is the strongest of Brain's adoptive children, and the only one who calls Brain "Father". His power is so great that Brain usually keeps him asleep. After leaving Brain for dead, Midnight takes up a leadership position among the Seis. His magic is Reflector, which can deflect his opponents' attacks and create illusions. His prayer is to find a quiet place to sleep.
----
* AchillesHeel: Erza determines two major weaknesses in his Reflector magic: 1.) His magic doesn't affect human bodies; and 2.) He can only concentrate his magic on one area at a time, leaving him open to simultaneous attacks in different directions. She also considers a third weakness in the form of her fake eye, which lets her see through his illusions.
* AdaptationDyeJob: In the adaptation of the Tartaros arc, Midnight's red eyes become a solid black and his black lipstick is replaced with a more natural color.
* AgentPeacock: Considered to be the strongest of the Oración Seis after Zero, and comes with very effeminate looks and makeup.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: He firmly believes that his ability to laugh at the pain of others is what sets him above everyone else. It's only fitting that Erza blows a hole in his philosophy by beating him.
* AttackReflector: His primary power allows him to bend and distort other wizards' spells to prevent them from hitting him. He cannot, however, use this to affect human bodies, nor can he use it on any other attacks when it's affecting something else.
* BadassLongcoat: Gains one similar to Brain's after the first TimeSkip.
* BreakingSpeech: He delivers a cruel speech to an amnesiac Jellal in the Nirvana arc, reminding him of all sins he committed at the Tower of Heaven.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: His initial trait as a Sleepyhead is completely ditched after Brain wakes him for the first time.
* ClippedWingAngel: He supposedly transforms into a giant monster at midnight, but it quickly turns out to just be one of his illusions. This doesn't work long on Erza, whose artificial eye allows her to resist such abilities.
* DaydreamSurprise: He inflicts this on his enemies with his illusions. Erza snaps out of it in the Nirvana arc thanks to her fake eye allowing her to see through his tricks; Jellal later does this by blinding himself.
* TheDragon: He is the strongest of the Seis besides Brain himself, and has the closest relationship to their adoptive father.
* FightingAShadow: He likes to use his illusions to distract people into thinking they managed to get a hit in on him before he blasts them. Even his "ultimate" transformation is just him overwhelming his foes with a powerful illusion that causes them to mentally break down while he doesn't have to lift a finger.
* FurAndLoathing: He wears a black leather vest with white fur trimming. Post-TimeSkip, he also wears a white fur-trimmed brown coat.
* GodzillaThreshold: When the first of the Oración Seis is defeated, Brain resorts to waking him up and sending him into battle, something he says he never hoped he would have to do.
* Goth: He has the appearance resembling typical Goth features such as dark lipstick and twin-coloured hair.
* LovesTheSoundOfScreaming: He drags his fights out and slowly tortures his opponents so he can bask in their screams of agony. It's a far cry from how he was as a child, when he couldn't stand hearing the screams of his fellow slaves.
* MakeupIsEvil: He's even more dolled up than the series' makeup-wearing villainesses. It's toned down after his return in the Tartaros arc, an early indicator of his HeelFaceTurn.
* MasterOfIllusion: His Reflector magic gives him this ability by bending light, yet it has a profound enough psychological effect to make his victims believe they've been skewered or blown apart, with an extra serving of MindRape thrown into the anime for good measure. Erza is able to see right through him with her fake eye in the Nirvana arc, while Jellal resists him by blinding himself in the Tartaros arc.
* NonchalantDodge: Casually tilts his head to dodge a thrown sword from Erza during their fight. This ends up tipping Erza off to his weakness, however, because he always reflected previous attacks before this point and he only did this while attacking her with his magic. When Erza drops a StormOfBlades on his head while he's attacking her again, he is much less nonchalant about dodging.
* OverlordJr: He embraces his role as Brain's adopted son more than the rest of the Seis by calling Brain "father". Despite this, he thinks of himself much more highly than Brain and has no issue leaving him when he realizes they are just his puppets.
* PrettyBoy: He's a pretty man with such effeminate features that it's hard to believe he's a guy at first glance. The Guyliner and lipstick don't help.
* RazorWind: His Spiral Pain attack is one of the many uses of his magic.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: He has solid red eyes in the Nirvana arc, indicating his depraved and soulless nature. His eyes are changed to black in later appearances, though.
* SissyVillain: He's quite the Bishonen, and his Guyliner and lipstick make him look very feminine. Mocked by Gajeel in the Key of the Starry Heavens arc.
-->Gajeel: You don't scare me! You look like some angsty kid who got into his mother's makeup.
* Sleepyhead: He spends most of the Nirvana arc sound asleep, yet is still able to avoid damage thanks to his Reflector magic being in effect, much to Natsu's irritation.
* TheStarscream: Played with; he doesn't seem to act on betraying Brain, but also doesn't give a damn about Brain getting shot InTheBack by Cobra, and steps up as the new de facto leader of the group.
* SuperpowerLottery: His Reflector magic prevents any spell from hitting him, making him appear invincible. Despite the two key weaknesses Erza figures out, it's still powerful enough to make him the strongest member of the group aside from Zero himself, and earns the praise of August of the Spriggan 12.
* UnskilledButStrong: Has the incredibly powerful Reflector Magic that gives him a borderline impervious defense and numerous means of attacking opponents without so much as lifting a finger. However, he's fairly lacking in terms of physical ability, and after Erza identifies his weaknesses she defeats him in short order.
* VillainousBreakdown: He loses his calm demeanor completely once Erza figures out his weaknesses, and is reduced to BrokenTears after she defeats him.

Midnight replaces Brain as the leader of the Neo-Oración Seis. Adopting his dark powers and dubbing himself "Brain II" in exchange for sacrificing the possible future where he would be happily reunited with his adopted father, he hopes to fulfill Brain's wish to plunge the world into chaos using the Infinity Clock.
----
* CastingAShadow: He's picked up the same darkness magic Brain used and combined it with his own Reflector magic.
* TheChessmaster: He manages to play Fairy Tail and the Legion Platoon against each other and use them to gather the Infinity Clock parts, since evil people such as himself and his guildmates are unable to touch them individually.
* CreatingLife: He brought Imitatia/Michelle to life from a doll, though he just as easily returns her to that state.
* DisneyVillainDeath: He falls into the bowels of the Infinity Clock after Natsu beats him. Given that he appears later on in the manga, though, this is subverted.
* DragonAscendant: Originally Brain's most powerful and trusted underling, Midnight has become the Seis' new leader in his "father's" absence.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: When Natsu tells him his PowerAtAPrice mentality is bullshit, Midnight calls him a liar and states that his father always told him sacrifice is the only way to gain true power, unable to comprehend that ThePowerOfFriendship and ThePowerOfLove are very real things despite the fact Lucy just used both to throw off his control and sic the Real Nightmare spell on him.
* FillerVillain: He's the main antagonist of the Key of the Starry Heaven FillerArc, which makes this a rare example of an already-established villain being the ArcVillain of such an arc.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Much like how there's not much explanation for the first Brain's EvilPlan, Midnight's decision to follow in Brain/Zero's footsteps takes a backseat to being a generally evil and manipulative scumbag, and he receives no moments of sympathy from Fairy Tail, unlike all the other members of the new Seis, barring Jackpot/Kurodoa.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Midnight is beaten when he realizes at the last moment that the Oración Seis's seals were likewise preventing Lucy from taking over the Infinity Clock of her own will. With the rest of the members beaten (including Imitaia by his own hand no less) Lucy is able to take control of the Infinity Clock and turn it against him while saving Natsu from Midnight's ultimate attack, which allows Natsu to beat him in a more even fight.
* KungFuWizard: By learning Zero's spells, he's able to match Natsu blow-for-blow, a far cry from his pre-timeskip SquishyWizard status.
* LegacyCharacter: Midnight has taken not just his father's codename, but also uses several of his powers and wears a similar outfit.
* PowerOfTheVoid: He knows Zero's ultimate attack, Genesis Zero. Without Dragon Force, Natsu is ultimately only able to break free when Midnight undergoes a VillainousBreakdown courtesy of a pissed-off Lucy's MindRape.
* VillainousBreakdown: Undergoes one after Lucy merges with the Infinity Clock and sics its madness-inducing powers on him, forcing him to relive the horrors of the Tower of Heaven before Natsu beats him to a pulp.

* LivingWeapon: He's Brain's weapon.
* MrExposition: His only role (in the manga, at least) is to explain who Zero is before being smashed to pieces.
* OneExtraMember: He takes pride in calling himself the seventh member of Oración Seis (which means "Six Prayers") in the anime.
* ShockAndAwe: In the anime, he can fire off electricity from his orb, though it doesn't do much more than inconvenience Natsu and Gray.
* SkullForAHead: Justified in that he is a magic staff, so the decorative skull head serves as his actual head.
* UnexplainedRecovery: Zero crushes his head beneath his boot in the manga. No explanation is given for his return in the anime, where he gets destroyed a second time, only to come back yet again in an OVA.
