!!Angelo Caballero
!!!Super High-School Level Interpretive Dancer
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angelo_sprite_7284.png]]
An expressive young man whose teachers encouraged him to hone his talent by performing on stage. Despite being teased by his peers, he refused to give up, and has become a well-known interpretive dancer among the performing arts community.

He was executed at the end of the third trial for the murder of Iko Detayama, despite his innocence and without being the majority vote, chiefly because Monobear wanted the real culprit to live with the consequences of his actions.
----
%%* TheAlcoholic
* AnimalMotifs: Horses, obviously, as he wears a horse mask.
* CharlesAtlasSuperPower: One of his special skills is simply having a lot of stamina and endurance, which he got from constant physical exercise from his SHSL talent.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Strapped to a metal chair, hooked to an EKG, pumped with heroin, and then impaled through the chest by a large syringe.
* TheCynic: Claims that everyone's actions are futile, even the Mastermind's, as everyone is going to die eventually and [[CessationOfExistence not even be able to feel how it is to not exist]].
* {{Determinator}}: His peers used to make fun of him for interpretive dancing, but he refused give up and now he's a success.
* EagleEyeDetection: He very good at reading and interpreting the actions and gestures of other people.
* FullFrontalAssault: Attacks Blazing Justice Phoenix while naked due to his mask being taken away by Monobear as part of Chapter 2's motive (something which causes him no shortage of stress) and the latter's less than graceful response to his nudity. He lets up very quickly, however.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Holds a great deal of self-loathing - to the point of calling himself a "rotting monstrosity" - and claims that he needs his mask to keep his sanity in check. Naturally, when Monobear takes it, he does ''not'' take it well.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: His execution appears to be setting him up for a death by heroin overdose, before being run through by a gigantic syringe.
%%* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Revealed to be this once he takes his mask off during the Chapter 1 investigation.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Calls out his classmates for participating in the trials and murder game at all, stating that getting the right culprit doesn't absolve them of the guilt of participating.
* RelationshipReveal: During chapter 3's trial, it's revealed that Angelo and Blazing Justice Phoenix's alibis are that they were being intimate with each other. (BJP had previously claimed he was practicing martial arts at the time). Then {{subverted}} as it's revealed to be a cover story.
* RuleOfFunny: Wears a bizarre horse head mask at almost all times. Once the reasons for his wearing it become clear, it isn't quite so funny anymore.
* SelfMadeOrphan: During an angry, screaming rant, Angelo reveals that he killed his own mother, although the circumstances are vague. He only mentions that he was the one who drove the car, and he was the one who pulled the plug. Whether both of these were accidents or intentional was left vague during the rant.
* SirSwearsALot: Undoubtedly one of the most foul-mouthed students among ''Doubt Academy 2: Black'''s cast.
* UngratefulBastard: Iko saves him and Daiki with an antivirus program. But Angelo thinks he has been "torn away from his God", so instead of being grateful, Angelo calls Iko a cold unfeeling machine and attempts to strangle Iko, telling her that he hopes she rots in hell.
* WouldHitAGirl: Well, he attempts to hit Iko after she fails to recognize him without his mask. He doesn't take Blazing Justice Phoenix blocking his punch well at all.

!!Aoi Bakuhatsu
!!!Super High-School Level Pyrotechnician
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aoi_sprite_6763.png]]
After losing his father and the use of one of his eyes in an explosion, Aoi swore to take over the family business and to carry his father's legacy. Cheery and hard-working, he gained a name for himself after setting up a great number of fireworks show all across the country. The frequent all-nighters spent working on his explosives have caused him to develop a certain fondness for coffee.

He's the culprit of Chapter 6, having shot Blazing Justice Phoenix to death. He's exposed during the trial and executed by way of being a part of a fireworks festival...with [[StuffBlowingUp explosive results]].
----
* BadToTheLastDrop: Aoi's coffee-making skills are atrocious, as evidenced by his turning a bag of gourmet coffee beans into something nigh-undrinkable. He doesn't find anything wrong with his coffee - in fact, when he makes some for Reika and she turns away in disgust, he thinks she must be moved to tears by how delicious it is.
%%* BombDisposal: Is skilled at doing this.
* ConfessToALesserCrime: When people start considering him as Kin's murderer during the Chapter 6 trial, Aoi confesses to being the one who knocked out Reika with the jitte in his possession, while insisting that he still hadn't killed the sentai. However, this backfires and serves as an accidental murder confession, since Monobear confirmed during the investigation that the person who knocked out Reika and the murderer were one and the same.
* CoolHelmet: He wears a construction worker hat. Given the way it sits on his head, [[UselessAccessory its protective purposes remain questionable]].
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Aoi is tied to a rocket during a fireworks festival. Then, the rocket is sent up into the sky as the last firework out of many, and it explodes in the sky, taking Aoi along with it.
* DemolitionsExpert: His specialty; you don't exactly become a Super High School Level Pyrotechnician by preserving explosive materials, after all.
* DisappearedDad: His father died in the explosion that took his eye.
* EyepatchOfPower: Lost his eye in a work-related explosion, but this caused him to pick up his trade of Pyrotechnician. During Chapter 1, he is forced to remove his bandages to prove his innocence. He does not handle it well.
* EyeScream: Lost his left eye in the same explosion that killed his father.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Is described in his profile as drinking way too much coffee due to his frequent late nights.
%%* SarcasmBlind
* StupidGood: He’s not the brightest bulb around.
* {{Workaholic}}: He spends entire days locked in his workshop, trying to perfect his fireworks.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Before his execution, Aoi reveals that he killed in order to get out and ''call the police''. Monobear decides to twist the knife by saying that he planned on executing the remaining students in case somebody graduated.
%%* WideEyedIdealist

!!Atsuko Minami
!!!Super High-School Level Painter
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/atsuko_sprite_3760.png]]
An avid painter who used to horrify her mother by painting on the walls. Has honed her talents and worked extremely hard in hopes of supporting her family with her passion.

She was the victim in the tenth case, and by extension, the final victim of the game, dying of internal injuries sustained when attempting to ambush Katsuo Shinobu.
----
* BreakTheCutie: Atsuko starts off as one of the most cheerful and upbeat characters in the game, only to end up falling into despair after King dies. She never recovers before her own death.
* CryIntoChest: Does this to King when Hotaru is found murdered.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: Expired in Katsuo's arms while he was carrying her to the infirmary in a futile attempt to save her.
* DiesWideOpen: Found lying dead in the infirmary with her eyes open.
* DisappearedDad: Her father left when she was two, causing her mother to have to work a lot to support them, which leads to Atsuko wanting to make money on paintings.
* DotingParent: {{Inverted|Trope}}; Atsuko is a doting daughter, and most of what she does is either to make her mother proud or make the family better off.
* GenkiGirl: She’s rather peppy, at least, at first.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Usually works through the night, with the help of coffee.
* MyEyesAreLeaking: Atsuko isn't used to crying, so when she begins crying upon hearing that her mother will be killed by Monobear if there is no murder, she doesn't seem to understand it. She cries again when Hotaru is found dead and when Taichi is executed, still surprised by the tears.
* NeverSuicide: Played straight in her case. At first glance, Atsuko appears to have killed herself by swallowing massive quantities of pills, but further investigation proves that she couldn't possibly have died that way. Katsuo eventually reveals that he attempted to make her death look like a suicide after killing her by accident.
* OfficialCouple: With King, but it's cut short when King is murdered in Chapter 7.
* SelfHarm: Atsuko is not in a good place after King dies. When she takes off her clothes for body checks in Chapter 10's trial, [[FanDisservice her visible ribs are physical evidence that she's stopped eating and she has cuts on her thighs from harming herself]].
* ShoutOut: When everybody starts yelling at and insulting each other in chapter 3's trial, Atsuko tries to tell everyone, "You must not lose hope!" just like [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc Makoto Naegi]]. She also tells King "You got that wrong" when the latter claims that nothing he does ever makes a difference.
* WellDoneDaughterGirl: Her motivation, but it's apparently not because her mother is strict, but just because Atsuko loves her that much (that and she wants to make up for painting on the walls as a child).
* YoungEntrepreneur: One of her special skills, although it's not her SHSL talent. She's described in her profile as "big on business and she sells her own things".

!!"Blazing Justice Phoenix"[=/=]Kin Ken
!!!Super High-School Level Sentai Squad Leader
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goddamn_bjp_1983.png]]

One day in the bustling heart of Tokyo's entertainment district, a young man appeared at an open casting for a new super sentai show that was planning on being made. This "Elemental Justice Dynamo Brigade" was a desperate production studio's last-ditch effort to bring in ratings. The young man gave a remarkable performance, showcasing martial arts thought to be long-dead. He ended his casting call with a rousing speech as to why he would be the perfect, most humble servant to the morals of their fair city. The was not asked by the casting directors, but they did not seem to mind listening to the youth's fiery words. He got the part, and he has been Blazing Justice Phoenix ever since. The four years that followed have been a resounding financial success for the company, all thanks to the sentai leader. It doesn't hurt that the countless forum threads full of speculation over his true identity have added more fuel to the media fire.

The culprit of Chapter 3, having murdered Iko Detayama [[AccidentalMurder by complete accident]]. Although he confesses to the murder, he avoids execution thanks to Monobear inflicting CruelMercy on him. He then goes on to become the victim of Chapter 6, shot to death by Aoi Bakahatsu.
----
* AccidentalMurder: On the giving end of one of these; Iko's the unfortunate recipient.
* AlliterativeName: His real name (''K''in ''K''en) is one, bordering on RepetitiveName, as only one of the letters is changed.
%%* AnimalThemedSuperbeing: The phoenix, of course.
* ChestInsignia: His suit's markings are in the vague shape up his helmet's visor, which is in the shape of a phoenix.
* CallingYourAttacks: He has a tendency to shout aloud most of his actions. [[MundaneMadeAwesome Yes, even non-battle, mundane actions]].
* CruelMercy: Many students try to ensure that Blazing Justice Phoenix is not executed for involuntary manslaughter... so he ''isn't''. Angelo Caballero is killed in his place, explicitly so the sentai will have to live with the guilt of having killed his best friend.
* DramaticUnmask: During Chapter 3's trial, the events become too much for him, and he removes his helmet in front of everyone before confessing to murdering Iko.
* GuiltComplex: He developed one after Iko's death, which he inadvertently caused.
* HonorBeforeReason: During the first trial, he refuses to unmask, citing an oath he took upon becoming a sentai hero to never reveal his true identity. Eventually, he casts this aside during Chapter 3's trial when he confesses to killing Iko.
* TheLeader: He actually had to develop this as a skill so he'd be a convincing sentai leader despite poor writing from the staff of his show; that is, his leadership abilities can bring good acting into a role that's often written poorly.
* LostInCharacter: You'd think he stepped right off the set of a {{Sentai}} show with how religiously he sticks to staying in character.
* NoIndoorVoice: MOST OF HIS DIALOGUE IS RENDERED AS IF SOMEONE'S SHIFT KEY WAS STUCK! He drops this after his DramaticUnmask.
* OfficialCouple: Becomes this with Iko in the afterlife, although this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy Black was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public.
* OneWayVisor: On the helmet of his {{Sentai}} uniform.
* PrecisionFStrike: Cuts loose and shouts quite the stream of profanity upon seeing Iko's body. It's noted that he's never sworn before in his life.
* RageBreakingPoint: During Chapter 3's trial, two of his classmates ask him if Angelo left his clothes in BJP's room. Unfortunately this comes at the head of some already stressful revelations on BJP's part, so BJP finally loses it and starts screaming at his classmates that he knows what they think of him, he knows that they think he is a manchild trying to play hero, so how dare they, when they pursue cardboard cutout justice by throwing accusations left and right.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: It’s revealed that he has red eyes after he removes his mask, but this is actually Averted. Even if he is Chapter 3's culprit, he's a SympatheticMurderer, to the point that many students refuse to vote for him, even after he confesses.
* RelationshipReveal: During chapter 3's trial, Blazing Justice Phoenix grudgingly admits that his previous alibi wasn't completely true: he wasn't practicing martial arts, he was ''being intimate with Angelo Caballero''. This was later revealed to be [[SubvertedTrope a ruse]]- Angelo lied to cover Blazing Justice Phoenix, and the sentai, being a skilled actor, picked up on this and played along.
* RookieRedRanger: He started out as this due to his absolute lack of roots in the sentai scene, with his other teammates previously working on various other series.
* SeriousBusiness: This is how he takes his role as a "sentai" leader.
* SympatheticMurderer: His killing of Iko was [[AccidentalMurder purely accidental]] and caused by his unawareness of her [[RidiculouslyHumanRobots true nature]]. It's hard to get more sympathetic than that.
* TearsOfRemorse: Sheds these while confessing to killing Iko.
* TogetherInDeath: He’s reunited with Iko in the afterlife after he gets murdered in Chapter 6.

!!Daiki Hideaki
!!!Super High-School Level Housemaid
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daiki_sprite_9295.png]]
A highly talented and respected maid who has personally served in a wide variety of households, and has helped trained others to be one-of-a-kind cleaning ladies. Boasts impressive vision and focus.

She is executed in [[HumanPincushion a manner not dissimilar to]] [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc Mukuro]] after the third trial is over for beating down Monobear, both [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech verbally]] ''and'' [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown physically]].
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Looks vaguely African-American, but her nationality or ethnicity is never outright revealed over the course of the story.
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** {{Subverted|Trope}}- She ''tries'' to have a moment like this, turning around to yell at Etsuko, Takeo, and Takara to stop fighting, what is the matter with them, and it even comes complete with a sprite that has darkness behind her... but her voice cracks near the end, cutting her off, and her throat hurts, and it ultimately doesn't accomplish anything.
** Played straight at the end of the third trial, where she unleashes a truly fearsome verbal beatdown on Monobear and her classmates before administering a physical beatdown on the bear. Unfortunately, this also gets her killed.
* BerserkerTears: She sheds these as she attacks Monobear.
* BrutalHonesty: To Angelo when they finally de-glitch in the afterlife; she confides in Angelo some dark things she secretly thinks about her classmates. And it's mostly that she thinks her classmates are kind of ''dumb'', because they keep playing their own games within the Mastermind's game instead of working together. Daiki admits that she's dumb, too, since she's here because she stupidly violated the laws in front of her in a very un-maid-like manner.
* CutenessProximity: Daiki gets sparkly glittery eyes when King and Atsuko reunite in the afterlife and officially confess their love for each other, which Daiki thinks is really cute.
* EagleEyeDetection: Comes from being able to spot even the tiniest dust.
* ExpressiveHair: Her hair is shown to spike up in response to certain emotions.
* HeroicBSOD: Her reaction to Iko's death. It's noted that she'd be crying instead, but she doesn't have the energy.
* HumanPincushion: How Monobear kills her for her defiance, via stuffing her full of spears, similar to how he killed “Junko” (actually Mukuro) for the same reason.
* {{Meido}}: Gee, where would you get the silly idea that she's this? Although she’s officially listed as the SHSL ''Housemaid'', she still pretty much fits this to a T.
* NeatFreak: Daiki seems overly preoccupied with cleanliness, which is fitting due to her talent, and despises messes and filth of any kind.
* PhotographicMemory: As long as something is said or done in front of her, she'll never forget it. Useful in her line of work.
* ThinkingOutLoud: She does this sometimes.
* YamatoNadeshiko: As expected of a SHSL Housemaid. She's perfectly obedient at all times, and is devoted to the happiness of everyone around her. Fittingly, when she drops this trait and ''flips out'' at the end of the third trial and hauls off on Monobear, it gets her killed.

!!Etsuko Tachibana
!!!Super High-School Level Toy Maker
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/etsuko_sprite_1576.png]]
Took up sewing as a hobby following a tragic car accident. After practicing on old stuffed toys, she began making her own plush bears as gifts for friends and family. This has blossomed into a full-fledged career, with her work sold at local craft shows and her mother's Yukata shop.

She was one of the two victims in the seventh case, stabbed with her own sewing shears by Yukari Maruyama.
----
* ACupAngst: When Etsuko has to strip in Chapter 2's trial, she's wearing a red and black striped bra... which is only there for cover, since she's described as having no chest in need of support, a fact she is very embarrassed about.
%%* ApologisesALot
* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Forms this sort of trio with Setsuko and Hotaru, with her as the Beauty.
* BreakTheCutie: The killing game is ''not'' kind to the poor girl at all. She's broken for good after she's killed in Chapter 7.
* DiesWideOpen: Her corpse is found in the House of Mirrors with her eyes wide open and full of tears.
* DisappearedDad: Etsuko now lives with only her mother because her father got into a car accident that severely injured Etsuko.
%%* ExactEavesdropping: One of her skills.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: This is how she discovered her SHSL talent as a "Toy Maker" in the first place; after learning how to sew from her mother fixing her clothes, she then practiced sewing on her own stuffed animals.
* GoshDarnItToHeck: An amusing variation - she uses fabric-related terms such as "goose down", "denim", and "fluff" in place of curse words.
* GroinAttack: Performs one on Takeo.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She has blonde hair, she's quiet and soft spoken, and she makes a living by giving people toys.
* InnocentBlueEyes: You can’t see them in the image above as her eyes are closed, but she does have these, suiting her soft-spoken nature.
* LuminescentBlush: In Chapter 2's trial, Yamato strips all the way down to his birthday suit. Etsuko, along with this, covers her eyes and screams at the top of her lungs.
* OfficialCouple: With Setsuko. After Etsuko is murdered in chapter 7, her journal is released after her death. When describing Setsuko, she says, "I never thought I could love someone as much as I love her." Also, her miscellaneous notes outright spell out that Etsuko is developing feelings for "Kuramoto-senpai". In some recent narration from Setsuko, we learn that at some point, Etsuko asked to room with Setsuko and get some ice cream, and they revealed their feelings for each other.
* TheQuietOne: Quiet and soft-spoken, which makes her a good eavesdropper.
* StressVomit: She throws up when Gwendolyn is blown up by Monobear.
* TenderTears: During Chapter 2's trial, when the possibility is brought up that Hotaru might have allowed the culprit to kill her, Etsuko reacts by breaking down into tears.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: Learned how to sew from her mother, because her mother used to personally fix any of Etsuko's torn clothes, or "take in" clothing that was too big for Etsuko. Etsuko used to watch her mother at work, and then take a needle and practice threading it.
* ThrowingOffTheDisability: Not long after Etsuko wakes up in the afterlife, she quickly finds out that she is fully capable of walking normally.
* YouShouldHaveDiedInstead: When Setsuko sacrifices herself to be executed in Yukie's place, Etsuko, from the afterlife, keeps screaming and beating on Yukie, not caring that Yukie can't hear or feel her, and Etsuko screams that it's Yukie's fault that Setsuko is dead.

!!Etsuo ‘King’ Takahashi
!!!Super High-School Level Poker Player
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/etsuo_sprite_2709.png]]
Learning how to play poker from his father at a young age, Etsuo grew up beating men much older than him. Due to his successes, he's very cocky and competitive, always wanting to win any challenge placed before him. Earned his nickname of 'King' for his ability to conquer others at the tables.

He was one of the victims in the seventh case, poisoned with a slow-acting poison by Hiroshi Kagami.
----
* BerserkButton: During the fourth trial, Tsutomu and Hiroshi get on King's last nerve by asking him to "move on", even though they're all willing to let Takeo die while judging King for voting for Blazing Justice Phoenix. King finally freaks and screams at all his classmates, ending his rant with [[PunctuatedForEmphasis ONE. WORD. SCREAMS.]]
* CryIntoChest: He cries into Atsuko's chest after the end of the fourth trial, when he can no longer keep himself together.
* CompetitionFreak: The man ''loves'' a good card game, almost a little too much.
* CouldntFindAPen: Like Yamato, King was found near a dying message written in blood, but this time, the victim really was doing the writing. He even stabbed his own hand with a skewer in order to have the blood to write with.
* DeclarationOfProtection: He promises to do anything to protect Atsuko when they become an OfficialCouple. He takes Atsuko's safety very seriously.
* DiesWideOpen: His corpse is found with its eyes half-open.
* DyingClue: Was trying to leave one, judging by the bloody marks found all over the mirrors behind him. Unfortunately, the fact that he was succumbing to the poison in his system and was disoriented by said mirrors rendered what he was trying to write - Hiroshi's name - as nigh-illegible scribbling.
* DistinguishingMark: Part of the reason he's nicknamed 'King' is the crown-shaped birthmark under his right eye.
* DistractedByTheSexy: A minor example: at one point in the first trial, he turns to tell Daiki his alibi, and can only think "Wow, she's pretty" before calling himself a numbskull and reminding himself to focus.
* TheGambler: His special talent, more specifically, he’s super skilled at poker.
* HeadDesk: Or rather, Head Podium. After Monobear switches up the execution at the end of the third trial, King loses it and, partly out of anger and partly to make a point, slams his head against the podium repeatedly until his forehead starts bleeding.
* HeroicBSOD: After learning that he had misjudged Reisuke as innocent, King has a complete meltdown, complete with incoherent rambling and extreme self-doubt. He even accuses Takeo of showing up to murder him.
* ItsPersonal: Mameko's death ''really'' shook him terribly. In the main blog, he swears to have her killer's ''head'' for this, and on his personal blog, there's a post called "King's Despair" in which he swears to make the culprit pay.
* OfficialCouple: With Atsuko. It's cut short when King is murdered in Chapter 7.
* PrecisionFStrike: King's reaction to Gwendolyn's untimely death is to scream that this is "FUCKING BULLSHIT!" and loudly wonder what they are all "fucking" doing here.
* ProfessionalGambler: His talent as the Super High School Level Poker Player cements him as this.

!!Gwendolyn Dominatus/Xiwei Yosheda
!!!Super High-School Level Dungeon Master
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gwen_sprite_490.png]]
She's both "the daughter of two authors", and "a really big fan of dungeons-and-dragons-style games". She combined both of those together to role-playing games and has even published several successful campaigns for Dungeons and Dragons. The adventures she writes are now ranked up among the most challenging in the industry.

Attacks Monobear after objecting to his hostile takeover of the park and is killed as a result.
----
* AscendedFangirl: She's a big fan of board games and adventure; thanks to her SHSL talent, she now publishes official campaigns for them.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Gets vaporized by a dragon bomb thrown by Monobear shortly after he takes over Magical Miracleworld.
* GameMaster: Her SHSL talent, although she restricts it to "Dungeon" games specifically.
* HairColorDissonance: Her hair color skirts the line between red and maroon.
* HereThereBeDragons: Despite the usual "primitive map" connotations of this trope, it's actually thematically appropriate, because Gwendolyn is a SHSL Dungeon Master, and one of her special skills (although it's not her SHSL talent) is Mapmaking.
* NotEnoughToBury: Not much of her body remains after Monobear [[StuffBlowingUp completely obliterates her]]. In fact, the only part of her that managed to survive was ''her ring finger''.
* OfficialCouple: Not with one of the other students, but with a man named "Ralas".
* PersonalEffectsReveal: During the endgame, Hitoshi discovers an ''engagement ring'' on her finger, the only part of her body that survived the explosion, so Hitoshi realizes that someone out there deserves to know what happened to Gwendolyn. Also, according to the "dead students blog" that wasn't released to the public until Doubt Academy Black was over, the name of the person she is engaged to is "Ralas".
* SacrificialLion: Her attempt to take down Monobear shortly after he takes over the park fails spectacularly; therefore, she's the first of the students to die.
* SignificantGreenEyedRedhead: Significant enough to be invited to Hope's Peak Academy, in fact. Though she's ironically not significant enough to survive past the prologue.
* ShouldersOfDoom: Benign example. Befitting her "Dungeon Master" image, her profile picture has a jeweled shoulder guard like that you might see on an RPG general in an army.
* StuffBlowingUp: Not long after our motley dungeon master attempts to assert her authority over Monobear, she gets a dragon-shaped bomb lobbed at her and is reduced to little more than a smoldering crater afterward.

!!Hiroshi Kagami
!!!Super High-School Level Biochemist
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiroshi_sprite_3764.png]]
Half-Japanese, half-Irish, his father always told him to look at the better side of the mirror, since his last name Kagami means Mirror. He's working towards inventing a vaccine for people too poor to afford vitamin supplements (and has already brought the Kagami name to fame for the next best thing, inventing a vaccine for people who can't absorb vitamins normally), and to invent a chemical compound that in general will make living on Earth a lot easier.

He attempts to prevent Yamato's suicide attempt during the fourth week, but ultimately fails. After watching Yamato die, he uses Yamato's corpse in an attempt to frame Takeo, but he confesses his setup of the crime scene during the fourth trial and successfully convinces the others of his innocence. He later becomes one of the two culrpits in Chapter 7 (the other being Yukari) by murdering King and is correctly convicted of his crime during the seventh trial.
----
* AbsentMindedProfessor: Hiroshi has a terrible memory and [[NoteToSelf keeps a notebook to remember names and keep track of what's going on.]] His memory is better in relation to biochemistry, but he still uses his tattoos of chemical compounds as memory aids. After he loses his notebook, it's revealed that his memory problem is so severe that he has forgotten the names and faces of many of his best friends without it.
* ButNotTooForeign: He's a Half-Irish Japanese student.
* ChemistryCanDoAnything: Or so Hiroshi ''hopes'', hence his dedication to his SHSL talent as "Biochemist".
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: He is made to go through a series of rooms drinking what he believes to be "safe" chemicals. In the final room, he is told that if he can survive the gas that's about to be pumped into the room, he's free to go. However, there's a nasty twist: while the chemicals he previously drank were safe ''by themselves'', they really ''are'' deadly if they combine with the right chemicals... such as, of course, the gas being pumped into the room. No guesses as what happens to Hiroshi next.
* DueToTheDead: He's the one who cleans up Mameko's room after it no longer has an occupant. He even has a pleasant escapist daydream while he's doing it, that of Mameko trailing around after him in school and hugging him.
* FailureToSaveMurder: Feared that his inability to prevent Yamato's death would count as a murder in Monobear's eyes, and was scared enough to try framing the DeathSeeker Takeo to avoid getting executed for it.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Hiroshi claims to value life, and his main goal in his work is to help ill people who can't afford treatment and to make the world an easier place to live in. Despite this, he still ends up murdering King, for reasons that have yet to be made clear.
* HeroicBSOD: Suffers one after Mameko's body is found since, as is eventually brought up in the trial, he and Mameko were rather close, to the point he was in love with her.
* JustAMachine: After Iko is revealed to have been an android, Hiroshi tries to persuade everyone that Iko was just a machine so they won't execute the culprit, who killed Iko by accident.
* OfficialCouple: He confirms that he was in love with "Mame-chan" to Takeo while yelling at Takeo that chapter 3's trial is a different situation than Chapter 1's trial. Judging from the posts on Mameko's personal blog, if Mameko hadn't been murdered, he and Mameko may have eventually developed into this. It's revealed post-game that they hooked up in the afterlife.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: A minor example since Hiroshi doesn't technically break any rules, but when the possibility is brought up in Chapter 3's trial that the victim was killed by ''accident'', Hiroshi tells Monobear that he refuses to participate in this trial since he considers manslaughter very different from murder, and thus Hiroshi refuses to vote for anyone but himself since Hiroshi would rather not execute a person who killed only by mistake.
* {{Sleepyhead}}: Appears to suffer from narcolepsy and falls asleep during two different trials.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: He wears a pair of specs, and he’s rather clever, though his memory is horrible.
* TogetherInDeath: He and Mameko are back together in the afterlife, after he gets executed for murder in Chapter 7. Post-game, it’s even revealed that they became a couple.
* ToThePain: When Mameko is found dead, a grief-stricken Hiroshi claims that he will slowly torture her murderer if Monobear's punishment is not enough, pointing out that he has access to drugs that will cause hallucinations, neurotoxins that will cause involuntary movement, and venoms that will dissolve their insides.

!!Hitoshi Nakamura
!!!Super High-School Level Drummer
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tvtropes_hitosh_509.png]]
Even before being introduced to the drums, Hitoshi was a fan of rhythm games. The massive amount of time he spent practicing paid off with a wide collection of rewards, and his rock band has toured around Japan. Friendly and socially flexible.

He survives the final trial and escapes from Magical Miracleworld with the other survivors.
----
* NiceGuy: He’s a friendly guy and can get along with anyone.
* OfficialCouple: With Rei, after Rei kisses him during the endgame.
* RhythmGame: Used to practice these games, which is how he got so good at his SHSL talent of drumming.
* RunningGag: Hitoshi checks the costume area of the amphitheater during murder investigations, only to be greeted by Monobear trying on various costumes.
* TheRockStar: A very downplayed example; he joined a rock band, and he's one of the best drummers alive, but he doesn't seem to be pursuing any particular "rock star" lifestyle.

!!Hotaru Ando
!!!Super High-School Level Zoologist
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hotaru_sprite_4891.png]]
Grew up around all manner of animals, due to her family running an exotic animal rescue shelter. At age 10, classified a new species of salamander by herself; at 14, gained international recognition for finding five new species of deep sea fish. Brought along Midori-san, a chameleon who's blind in one eye.

She was the victim in the second case, poisoned with cyanide by Taichi Yuuta.
----
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: Since, in the afterlife, Hotaru finally confesses her love to Taichi in a desperate attempt to keep him from permanently erasing himself, her declaration is just this.
* BadassBookworm: Though she never got to show much of it while she was alive, Hotaru has gone through survival and self-defense training and she is stronger and more agile than she looks. In the afterlife she uses this to physically interfere with people's destructive actions. She only effectively uses it for violence once: when she attacks Setsuko out of anger after her HeroicSacrifice.
* BatmanGambit: Pulls one off in the afterlife when she tricks Taichi into eating poisoned nikujaga as a last-ditch effort to prevent him from permanently erasing himself.
* BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame: In an ironic twist, Hotaru poisons Taichi with cyanide in the afterlife: the same poison he used to murder her.
* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Forms this sort of trio with Setsuko and Etsuko, with her being the Brains. Midori-san can be considered a TeamPet, beloved by all three of the girls.
* BitterAlmonds: Her body discovery describes the smell of the air around her as being similar to almonds, which hints that her killer used cyanide on her at some point.
%%* BrutalHonesty: A non-judgmental version.
* ChildProdigy: She managed to classify a new species of salamander by herself at ''age 10'', for one.
* ClusterFBomb: After her PrecisionFStrike moment, Hotaru goes on a particularly profanity-laden posthumous rant against the mastermind.
--> '''Hotaru''': I WILL FIND YOU! AND EVEN IF I CANNOT I WILL FUCKING HOPE WITH MY EVERY CELL THAT YOU WILL DIE AND END UP HERE WITH US. I’LL KILL YOU AGAIN! AND AGAIN! I’LL BREAK YOU! EVERY TIME YOU FIX I’LL MAKE YOU SUFFER MORE! YOU TOOK EVERYTHING FROM ME! NOW YOU’RE FUCKING WITH YOUR OWN SO FUCKING SACRED RULES TO MAKE FUCKING FOOLS OUT OF EVERYONE! I’LL KILL YOU! I’LL KILL YOU!!
* CooldownHug: Gives one to Mameko in the afterlife after she stops her from beating up Kei.
* CryIntoChest: Does this on Taichi quite a few times in the afterlife. The significant height difference helps.
%%* EagleEyeDetection
* FreakOut: Has a ''bad'' one in the afterlife after Setsuko sacrifices herself, breaking her promise to take care of Midori and Hotaru's hope of seeing her friends stay alive all at once.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Her special talent is that she’s this.
* FriendlessBackground: Before her invitation to Hope's Peak Academy, she never had friends her own age.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Hotaru's feelings about poisoning Taichi and tying him to the bed. She feels terrible about it, but feels that it was necessary in order to prevent Taichi from erasing himself.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: A minor example, but when the murderer confesses to killing her, he also mentions that Hotaru smiled at him before she died and said, "It's okay."
* LoveAtFirstSight: A one-sided example, but she becomes infatuated with Taichi the instant she first lays eyes on him.
* LoveHurts: Was poisoned by the man she loved.
* MoodSwinger: Hotaru's never experienced much hardship before the game, so the events of the plot wildly affect her mood. Especially in the afterlife.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Has this moment after she chokes out Setsuko for breaking her promise, then quickly realizes that she just ''choked out her friend'' and Setsuko had just been through the trauma of ''being burned alive.''
* NatureLover: Comes with the territory of being a zoologist.
* OfficialCouple: She becomes this with Taichi in the afterlife, although this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy Black was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public. She was in love with Taichi before the murder; because of that, after initially spitting and cursing at him, she and Taichi make amends.
* OneThingLedToAnother: Basically what happened in the afterlife after Hotaru ties Taichi to his bed. Wanting to make up for what she did leads to kissing and before they know it it turns into sex, jump-starting their relationship, and Taichi promising that he would stay with her.
* ParrotPetPosition: Midori-san the chameleon, the only pet small and easy to take care of at school, is usually perched on her shoulder.
%%* PhotographicMemory
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: In the afterlife, Hotaru says variations of this while begging Taichi not to erase himself.
* PrecisionFStrike: Minutes after Iko shows up in the afterlife, Hotaru says it's not Iko's fault she died, it's the fault of the "homo sapiens" who built her and "''THE FUCKING MASTERMIND!!!''"
* RaisedByWolves: Grew up isolated from people, being constantly surrounded by animals.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Thanks to her talent as a zoologist, and the fact she wears a pair with silver frames, she qualifies.
* SoHappyTogether: Hotaru and Taichi basically get together in the afterlife right before the end of the game. They have about a day and a night of happiness together, but they anticipate they will be erased the next trial. As it turns out, their data ends up stored in stasis on a hard drive and their fates are unknown.
* SkilledButNaive: She's near-genius level in her field, but she's naive to how the world works outside of science labs and ecosystems.
* TamperingWithFoodAndDrink: The second time Hotaru makes nikujaga for Taichi, she poisons it to prevent him from erasing himself.
* TearsOfJoy: Hotaru sheds these twice after she dies. The first time is when Taichi promises to stay and not erase himself, and the second is when he tells her he loves her at the end of the final trial.
* ThroughHisStomach: Hotaru and Taichi start getting really close in the afterlife after she cooks her father's nikujaga recipe for him for the first time.
* TogetherInDeath: She’s reunited with Taichi after he gets executed, though she’s not that happy to see him at first, as he did kill her.
* TryingNotToCry: Hotaru hates to cry most of the time, but unfortunately for her, as the killing game continues to spark tragedy, she can't really help but do so in reaction to everything going on in both the afterlife and the killing game proper.
* WhyCantIHateYou: Despite murdering her, Hotaru cannot find it in herself to hate Taichi after they die.

!!Iko Detayama
!!!Super High-School Level Memorizer
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iko_sprite_7684.png]]
A young woman with a reputation for being a living archive of information, capable of memorizing a 100-word list within five minutes and reciting it perfectly five months later. Placed in the Guinness Book of World Records for recalling the most digits of pi ever recorded. Humble and kindhearted, wishing only to use her talent to help others.

She was the victim in the third case, and was revealed to be a robot after short-circuiting when Blazing Justice Phoenix knocked her into a pool.
----
* AccidentalMurder: On the receiving end of one of these, courtesy of Blazing Justice Phoenix.
* BigDamnHeroes: A weird dead-helping-dead example. In the afterlife, Angelo and Daiki keep "glitching out" and don't actually make it to the afterlife until Iko discovers an antivirus program and uses it to bring Angelo and Daiki back to normal...or, at least as normal as being "dead" can get.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Iko seems to space out a lot, make very strange comments, be blissfully naive in serious situations, and doesn't seem to understand basic aspects of human nature. This makes sense after she is revealed to be an android.
* DiesWideOpen: Their unusual blankness serves as another tip-off to her [[RidiculouslyHumanRobots true nature.]]
* EatingLunchAlone: She does this voluntarily; she doesn't like eating or drinking in front of other people. Justified since she's a robot and therefore cannot eat or drink.
* GoodWithNumbers: Extremely so. One could even call her a human calculator, taking TheReveal into consideration.
* HumbleGoal: Despite her genius, she just wants to help others.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: As a result of her extreme naivete. Iko meant nothing bad by cheering when Reisuke was convicted (she thought she should be happy over the class solving a puzzle) or not recognizing Angelo without his mask (she thought it was his actual face), but she still succeeds in setting both Takeo and Angelo off, to the point where the latter tries hitting her.
* ItsAllMyFault: In the "dead students blog" only revealed to the public after Doubt Academy Black was over, Iko ''blames herself'' for being killed, since the killer didn't know what would happen upon pushing her into the pool, and Iko blames herself for ''not being able to swim''.
* MouthfulOfPi: By implication, since her memorization is of obvious great help to her in mathematics.
* NoWaterProofingInTheFuture: What ultimately leads to her demise, after Ken accidentally knocks her into the pool.
* OfficialCouple: Becomes this with Blazing Justice Phoenix in the afterlife, although this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy Black was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public.
* PhotographicMemory: Her special talent is that she’s good at memorising things. Given what she really is, this makes a shocking amount of sense in hindsight.
* RidiculouslyHumanRobots: Following her death, Monobear reveals that she's an android. Considering that no-one even guessed that fact before the reveal, she was pretty convincing.
* RobotGirl: As it turns out, she's a ridiculously human android.
* RoboticReveal: She's actually been an android this entire time. Just to twist the knife further, Monobear reveals that not even Iko herself was aware of her true nature.
* SkilledButNaive: Despite her obvious brainpower, she is very, very naive about certain matters. Her lack of understanding can occasionally veer into the disturbing (for example, she doesn't know how she's "supposed" to react to people dying) or make her come off as downright insensitive, [[InnocentlyInsensitive even if she doesn't mean to be]].
* TogetherInDeath: She’s reunited with Blazing Justice Phoenix after he gets murdered in Chapter 6.
* UnusualEyebrows: Hers being ovals.

!!Katsuo Shinobu
!!!Super High-School Level Cruiserweight Boxer
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katsuo_sprite_4771.png]]
Participating in his elementary school's boxing club ignited his passion for the sport. This extended so far that as soon as he felt ready, he lied about his age so he could box professionally. That career came to an untimely end when he got into trouble with a gang, forcing him into hiding. However, he continued to box underground under an assumed name, until he was invited to Hope's Peak.

The culprit of the tenth and final trial, having killed Atsuko while [[CrimeOfSelfDefense trying to defend himself from her attack]]. Despite his guilt, he avoids execution thanks to the reveal of the mastermind, survives the final trial, and escapes from Magical Miracleworld with the other survivors.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: He has dark skin, but his ethnicity is unknown.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: In spite of being a skilled cruiserweight boxer, he's actually pretty emotionally sensitive.
* CryIntoChest: Katsuo cries into Takeo's chest when he tries to comfort him following the third trial.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Gold hair, gold eyes.
* DespairEventHorizon: Katsuo breaks and loses and falls completely into despair in response to Takeo's death.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: His special talent involves these, being a boxer.
* HeroicBSOD: Plunges into one at the end of the third trial. The death of Daiki, who he shared a close friendship with, plays a large role in this. Takeo helps him get out of this a little, but when Takeo is murdered soon afterwards Katsuo falls back into the BSOD harder than ever.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: This is how Katsuo felt at the start of the game, hopeful to gain a fresh start with all the new people. However, with all of his friends dying or becoming untrustworthy, he may be reverting back to this.
* InelegantBlubbering: Since around about Chapter 3, Katsuo has found it very hard to form coherent sentences through his tears.
* ItsAllMyFault: How Katsuo took Daiki's death. He felt he could have done ''something'' to prevent it, as he felt he was physically capable. But he didn't, and so this is how he feels about the event.
* {{Jobber}}: He got caught up in a local gang's schemes, and they asked him to be one for them. He ''refused'', and thus had to hide from them under a pseudonym.
* KarmaHoudini: While Katsuo does confess to killing Atsuko, however accidentally, at the end of the tenth trial, his confession comes right after Khadija has been outed as the mastermind and is slated to be executed, saving him from any punishment.
* ManlyTears: Despite what his talent as a boxer may suggest about him, Katsuo's tears flow heavily and often.
* ProudToBeAGeek: Katsuo keeps up with the Jump line of Shonen manga magazines, and he hasn't missed an issue for as long as he can remember.
* SympatheticMurderer: Katsuo killed Atsuko purely by accident - after she lured him into the guest lounge and attempted to murder him, he ended up pushing her into a bookcase in self-defense. Said bookcase fell on Atsuko, causing her internal injuries, and she died in his arms while he was taking her to the infirmary for treatment.
* TearfulSmile: After King barges into Takeo's room and finds Katsuo with a knocked-out Khadija after the 5th trial, Katsuo starts to do this a lot.
* TenderTears: Most of Katsuo's tears have been shed for someone else's predicament. The only exception being when he was crying over his realisation that he was to kill Taichi with his charge in the second trial.
* ThrowingTheFight: His refusal to do such a thing led to his gang troubles.
* TraumaCongaLine: After leading the vote in the second trial, Katsuo faces the despairing personal consequences when he feels like he killed Taichi himself. After this, he starts losing his best friends one by one. First Daiki, then Takeo.
* UsedToBeMoreSocial: The troubles with the gang forced him into hiding, which all but destroyed his social life. He didn't talk to anyone in school for fear of having his identity be outed.

!!Kei Katsuya
!!!Super High-School Level Legal Assistant
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kei_sprite_7578.png]]
Kei became the youngest legal assistant in the country when she started working at the firm of her father, a highly respected criminal defense lawyer. She's an avid student of legal theory and intends to take the bar after high school. She prefers to be called a SHSL Attorney rather than a Legal Assistant.

The culprit of Chapter 5, having murdered Taeko Hironaka, she is caught for his killing and is executed for it.
----
* {{Bifauxnen}}: She’s rather boyish-looking.
* ClosetGeek: Despite her serious and professional exterior, she likes SuperRobot shows, as revealed by the numerous official fanbooks in her bookcase and the ''Super Robo V'' thermos she begins taking into the courtroom after chapter two. Naturally, she considers this to be rather embarrassing.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Dropped into a mock courtroom, stood behind the defense counsel's desk, and tormented with literal evidence bullets by the Monobear at the prosecution's desk before being shot to death.
* DaddysGirl: Idolizes her successful and well-liked father and strives to become a lawyer as good as he is.
* DeclarationOfProtection: Kei promises to keep Yumiko safe from danger no matter what during chapter 5. Sadly, she makes good on her promise in the worst possible way by killing Takeo in the same chapter.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: Kei falls into despair after being outed as a murderer and executed, and her eyes are described as being dull or lightless several times after her arrival in the dead blog.
* EasilyForgiven: After Kei is executed, she learns that Takeo isn't angry at her for killing him at all. In fact, he promptly apologizes to her for not being able to make a cleaner crime scene and for backing out at the last minute. She's caught off-guard by this, to say the least.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Calmly accepts her fate after being voted as the culprit and asks her classmates to focus on working together and escaping before going off to her death. She attempts to face her own execution with dignity as well but can't quite make it and ends up trembling and crying by the end.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Frames her decision to murder Taeko this way while confessing, stating that she had to get rid of that week's motive and doesn't regret the results of her actions, even if she regrets taking Takeo's life.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Invokes the trope, claiming that she would never resort to murdering another student, since such a thing would go against her nature as an "agent of justice". She ends up undermining her claims by killing Takeo.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Done with coffee and not alcohol, but the general idea is still the same, as she’s rather stressed by the Killing Game.
* InsistentTerminology: Downplayed. Kei would rather be referred to as a SHSL Attorney and introduces herself that way; however, she'll readily admit to her actual title and won't protest too much if people use that.
* JustAKid: Some members of her father's law firm were less-than-enthused about a teenager doing an adult's work and accused her of being a spoiled child who rode in on her father's coattails and couldn't do anything without his help.
* MeaningfulName: The "katsu" in her surname means "victorious" - she's the daughter of a defense lawyer who wins an unusual number of cases.
* MissingMom: Her mother abandoned the family when she was five. Her father's {{Workaholic}} nature played a large role in this, and Kei worries that she'll do the same thing to her partner, given her similar personality.
* MoreDakka: During her execution, she's shot with one bullet for every piece of evidence she left behind... and then shot with several more rounds after that.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Has a deep love for (and is basically powered by) coffee. She seems to hold people who share a love of the drink and/or are able to make it well in high regard.
* NecessarilyEvil: Feels this way in regards to murdering Taeko for the sake of keeping Yumiko safe.
* NervesOfSteel: Comes from having to keep up in a fast-paced legal environment.
* NotSoStoic: The events of the third class trial are enough to make her flip out, however briefly. Her mask also cracks several times during the Chapter 5 trial, and it completely shatters during the final moments of her execution.
* OfficialCouple: Is in the process of becoming this with Yumiko. Unfortunately, she's outed as a murderer and executed before it can get too far along. It's confirmed post-game that they become a couple in the afterlife.
* OneNoteCook: Kei's lifestyle didn't allow her to spend much time learning how to cook, and she has only ever learned how to make one dish well - katsudon. She's woefully mediocre at best when it comes to everything else.
* ThePromise: Kei makes several in Chapter 5 - she will protect Yumiko, will never leave her, and will keep herself safe for her sake. Several hours later, she murders Takeo in order to keep her first promise, leading to her being executed and breaking the others.
* RageBreakingPoint: After being outed as a murderer, brutally executed, and learning that she's one of Hotaru's Mastermind suspects almost immediately after her death, Kei is subjected to Taichi's angry coffee-related rant. Cue her uncharacteristically losing her temper and firing back with a rant of her own.
* ShootTheDog: In Chapter 5, Kei finally takes out Takeo, using his pain and willingness to die as a justification for the murder, which she considers a necessary evil.
* TheStoic: Comes off as quite cool and composed in most situations, due to her habit of internalizing and compartmentalizing away any "disruptive" emotions.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Her aforementioned stoicism doesn't stop her from being a generally kind-hearted and friendly person.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: Several of the rounds that Monokuma emptied into Kei during her execution were done ''after'' her heart had stopped.
* ThroughHerStomach: Kei and Hotaru get off on the wrong foot after the former's entry into the afterlife, but they're eventually able to patch things up over Kei's katsudon.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: It's hard to get more violently protective than murdering another student in order to keep your love interest safe.

!!Khadija Halabi
!!!Super High-School Level Confectionary Chef
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/khadija_sprite_3590.png]]
Khadija was born and raised in Turkey, but wanted freedom from the expectations of its patriarchal society to open her own sweets shop and live on her own terms. With the help of her mother, who taught her all she knows about the kitchen, she moved to America at 18. As she gained renown as a confectionery chef, she traveled the world to keep her lifestyle fresh. She eventually ended up in Japan and attracted the attention of Hope's Peak Academy.

Not only is she Chapter 9's culprit, having murdered Kyou Kaeguchi, she's the mastermind of ''Doubt Academy 2: Black'' and is executed at the end of the tenth and final trial.
----
* AccentRelapse: Khadija can speak English pretty well until she starts to lose her cool in a hairy situation. A fine example of this happens during the second trial, when she realizes she's been framed (by Taichi) as she talks about the evidence and her theory.
* ArrangedMarriage: Her father tried to set her up for one but she avoided this by leaving Turkey.
* BlackBraAndPanties: In Chapter 9's trial, Khadija takes off her shirt to prove that she doesn't have an injury on her upper body and thus is not the culprit, and it turns out she's wearing a bra that is half-black and half-red.
* DeadpanSnarker: She's so good at this that she straight up defeated Takara in direct SnarkToSnarkCombat.
* ForeignCussWord: When everyone strips in Chapter 2's trial to prove an alibi, one of Khadija's classmates, Yamato, strips ''all the way naked'' instead of just to his underwear like everyone else. Khadija reacts first by accusing him of being touched in the head, and then swearing at him in Turkish: "Sen Japonca ve çıplaklık!" which means something along the lines of "You Japanese and your nudity!"
%%* HartmanHips
* HeroicBSOD: Has a brief one when Takeo is murdered in chapter 5. Takeo was the only person in the place Khadija gave a damn about, and now he's ''dead''.
* IceQueen: She’s rather cold at times.
* KarmaHoudini: Khadija became one after the students failed to pin her for Kyou's murder, leaving Setsuko to offer herself up for the chopping board instead. However, karma catches up with her during the final trial when she is correctly pinned as the culprit for last trial's murder and voted to be executed.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Has this relationship with Takeo.
%%* ItsPersonal: Considering who the murder victim of chapter 5 is, Khadija's determination during the investigation should come as no surprise.
* NeverGotToSayGoodbye: When she finds Takeo's body:
-->'''Khadija:''' "...I’m so upset with you...you... You left me without a single...goodbye.
* {{Omniglot}}: Can fluently speak Turkish and English, and can understand basic Japanese.
* TheScapegoat: When the students cannot come to a proper conclusion about the identity of Atsuko's murderer, several of them decide to vote for Khadija, citing evidence that appears to link her to Kyou's murder and claiming that executing a probable KarmaHoudini would be better than killing someone who probably acted in self-defense.
* SupremeChef: At confectionery to be specific.
%%* SweetTooth
* SympatheticMurderer: Khadija claims that she was merely acting in self-defense after the shortcake she gave Kyou set off his allergies and led to him flying into a rage and attempting to kill her. After disarming him, she tracked him down to the insectarium and finished him off, fearing that he would hurt her or someone else if left alone.
* TeamChef: She makes confections for the other students.
* TragicKeepsake: Takes Takeo's jacket from his corpse after saying her goodbyes. She's also given his keycard.
* TranquilFury: After Kei is revealed to be Takeo's murderer, Khadija addresses her calmly but makes it clear that she is only holding herself back from beating the crap out of Kei in order to preserve her own dignity.
* WrenchWench: To a minor extent. She understands the mechanics of the machines she uses to make her foods as well as how to repair them.

!!Kyou Kaeguchi
!!!Super High-School Level Prosthetist
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyou_sprite_6014.png]]
A self-educated genius roboticist who specializes in ultra-precise prosthetics. His successes gained the attention of a military government, and he was recruited to create these for injured soldiers. Unfortunately, the group was nearly wiped out by a chemical fire; fortunately, Kyou survived the incident.

He was the victim in the ninth case, his neck broken by Khadija Halabi.
----
* ArtificialLimbs: His special talent is that he can make these.
* ClusterFBomb: He has a neutral reaction to Etsuko's death in Chapter 7. Upon learning that King has ''also'' been murdered, however, Kyou unleashes a '''massive''' stream of nothing but "shit" and "fuck" for a good solid minute before finally calming down.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: As he puts it early on, "My past... is fucked up." When he is accused of murdering Reika, Kyou breaks down and reveals said past - he's a mass-murderer who killed everyone at the lab he worked with in a fit of rage and had his actions covered up by the government.
* DiesWideOpen: His corpse is found in the insectarium with his eyes completely wide open.
%%* GadgeteerGenius: Has slight shades of this.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: Has an expertise in crafting prosthetic for people, so it's safe to assume he qualifies on both ends for a labcoat.
* NeckSnap: Ends up on the business end of one of these thanks to Khadija.
* NeverFoundTheBody: The body of one of his coworkers, Warren Krow, was never located. That's because "Warren Krow" never existed - he was an alias the government created in order to cover up Kyou's actions.
* TheNicknamer: He gives nicknames to students he doesn't know very well based off of their talents. For example, he's called Takara "Chessy" and Katsuo "Fisticuffs."
* OfficialCouple: With Shizuka. Unfortunately cut short when Kyou is murdered in Chapter 9.
* SoleSurvivor: Of a chemical fire that claimed the lives of the division he was working with. This is a government cover-up. In reality, the rest of the division Kyou worked with died because he snapped and killed them himself.
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: Claims that it takes a ''lot'' (or a complete idiot) to get him angry, but when he does, he loses control of himself. Apparently, being held down by chains is one of the few things that can calm him down. As revealed during the Chapter 8 trial, Kyou doesn't just lose control of himself when he's angry, he bludgeons people to death. It's a bad idea to get him angry indeed.

!!Mameko Moriyama
!!!Super High-School Level Gardener
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mameko_sprite_9938.png]]
A frail, but kindhearted young lady who teaches over 4,000 students about gardening and flower arranging at the Moriyama Academy of Plants and Beauty. Though eager for social interaction, she often finds it difficult to keep friends. Mameko blames herself for this, and believes that her SHSL Talent is boring and uninteresting.

The very first victim of the killing game, killed with chlorine gas in a trap set by Reisuke Kurosaki.
----
* AllLovingHeroine: Mameko has already been established as a girl who loves everybody. According to the "dead students blog", this includes ''her friggin' killer''; when the man who killed her wakes up in the afterlife, she responds by hugging him and crying out of sheer relief that he's in one piece.
* TheCutie: Just look at her. She's cute in both appearance and mannerisms, being extremely sweet-hearted and forgiving.
* GreenThumb: Her special talent is that she has one of these.
%%* EagleEyeDetection: For detail and beauty.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Blonde, and is extremely kind-hearted.
* TheHeart: Eager to make friends (though bad at keeping them), and easily cries tears of sadness or joy.
* KillTheCutie: Her kind-hearted nature doesn’t save her from the Killing Game, and she’s killed by Reisuke in Chapter 1.
* OfficialCouple: Judging from the posts on Mameko's personal blog, if Mameko hadn't been murdered, she and Hiroshi may have eventually developed into this. It's revealed post-game that they became a couple in the afterlife.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: Only once, in the afterlife, but it counts. When Kei, from the afterlife, ''cheers'' Hiroshi's upcoming execution, Mameko can't stomach the idea that the only person who loves her for herself, namely Hiroshi, would "deserve" to die, so Mameko goes berserk and attacks Kei, shouting that nobody else loves Mameko so Hiroshi deserves to live! This is quickly broken up when Hotaru pulls Mameko off Kei and tries to soothe and restrain her.
* RousingSpeech: Attempts to give one to the others after Monobear reveals his first motive to kill, impressively overcoming initial doubts to do so. It doesn't completely take, sadly.
* SacrificialLamb: Gentle, kind-hearted... and unfortunately, the second victim in the RP and the first real one in the mutual game of killing. Anyone can be killed, even a girl who means harm to nobody.
* SelfDeprecation: Blames herself for her struggle to keep friends, and thinks that her talent isn't interesting.
* TenderTears: Is prone to shedding these for many reasons, befitting her kind nature.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: The general reaction to Mameko's death is that in no way did such a "sweet little girl", as King puts it (while swearing to have her killer's ''head'' for this), deserve to be murdered. As a bit of black comedy, someone even uploaded a picture of Mameko as an angel with the caption "good night, sweet princess".
* ThrowTheDogABone: In the "dead students blog", Mameko invites Monomi to their group meeting, which is notable because Monomi is usually portrayed as a ButtMonkey, so Mameko being nice to her is rather unusual.
* WallSlump: The position her corpse is in upon the murder reveal.

!!Rei Mikami
!!!Super High-School Level Prosthetic Makeup Artist
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rei_sprite_3018.png]]
As the child of two old movie buffs, Rei is more interested in old movies than modern, and they especially prefer horror. They discovered their SHSL talent as Prosthetic Makeup Artist because they kept trying to recreate scenes from those old horror movies, and then upgraded to using real references. Now their work appears in several movies and even a TV series, and Rei even has a fanbase.

Survives to endgame.
----
* AndYouThoughtItWasAGame: Rei's reaction to Gwendolyn being blown up is to try to convince everyone, including themself, that it's an elaborate joke.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Fittingly enough, they’re rather pale, have black hair and are a pretty big goth.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Stated and shown to have a preference for energy drinks to the point the empty cans often pile up in their room and often are used to help stay up and work.
* NowOrNeverKiss: During the endgame, everyone has to quickly escape from the park before Monobear blows it up. Rei realizes they left something important behind in their room and resolves to go back and get it. But Rei knows this will put them in danger of being blown up with the park, so in a now or never moment, they pull Hitoshi to them and kisses him, hoping that they'll see him again at the station.
* OfficialCouple: Hitoshi reciprocates Rei's feelings, so they became a couple.
* PerkyGoth: They're an old horror movie buff and they ''dress'' like a goth, but they're actually very friendly, almost to the point of being clingy.
* TechnicolorEyes: They're coloured pink.
* YouthfulFreckles: Has some along the bridge of their nose.

!!Reika Ichikawa
!!!Super High-School Level Private Tutor
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reika_sprite_8908.png]]
She's been an academic prodigy ever since she was young, and can learn from textbooks quickly and teach everything in them in a form easy for others to understand. Before tutoring, she used to study for extremely long hours, and now that she's tutoring, she has insane working hours with up to 20 tutoring sessions a day ''including midnight.'' However, since she makes ''absurd'' amounts of money thanks to a combination of having lots of sessions and private tutoring being her SHSL talent, others sometimes wonder if her motives are pure.

The ninth victim of Doubt Academy Black, killed by blood loss from a head wound.
----
* AssholeVictim: She gets cracked in the head by Aoi and dies in an attempted murder by Shizuka that reopens the wound and ultimately makes her bleed out. Needless to say, it's doubtful anyone was shedding any tears for her when she finally went.
* ChildProdigy: Used to be one. Now she's a grown prodigy.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: She's really not a people person at all.
* {{Jerkass}}: Far and away ''the'' biggest bitch of the cast.
* MoneyDearBoy: InUniverse. She's been accused of tutoring because of this, instead of just wanting to help people. It remains to be seen if this is true.
* MustHaveCaffeine: It's said that she always has a couple of flasks of coffee on hand, and often goes into dazed trances if she doesn't have enough caffeine in her.
* NoSympathy:
** She shows no sympathy to Iko after someone murders Iko in Chapter 3. Iko was so naive, what else did she and the rest of her classmates expect? That anyone would actually want to ''stay'' in this hellhole?
** In the third trial, when Takara tries to apologize to Takeo for Reisuke being executed back in the first trial. Reika shows no sympathy to Takara, because to Reika even Takara's apology is high and mighty - she gets the impression that he's taking all the credit for solving the first case, when the rest of the class actually contributed too. She also shows no sympathy to Takeo, since in Reika's opinion why is Takara bothering to apologize to someone like Takeo, who's crying over a boy named Reisuke that he hardly knew?
** In the afterlife, she shows no sympathy to Aoi, who is apologizing profusely for being indirectly responsible for Reika's death. Keep in mind that Aoi didn't actually kill Reika; Aoi merely gave Reika a head wound that opened up and bled out at the worst possible time when ''someone else'' killed Reika. But Reika feels this is sufficient not to forgive Aoi, to smack him around some, and yell at him that it's all his fault.
%%* PhotographicMemory: Sort of, since she's actually just book smart.
* RapidFireTyping: Subverted, she doesn't actually like to type, but she's developed the skill of rapid-fire ''writing''.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: She wears glasses, and she’s had an easy time learning things since she was a kid.

!!Reisuke Kurosaki
!!!Super High-School Level Forensic Biologist
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reisuke_sprite_1144.png]]
Self-reliant and independent, Reisuke's devotion to his studies has helped him significantly reduce Japan's crime rate. This has earned him an impressive amount of begrudging respect, though he's also made enemies due to his exacting standards.

The first culprit of the killing game, having killed Mameko Moriyama. He's found out, voted as the culprit and subsequently executed in a...[[{{Gorn}} fairly messy fashion]].
----
* AccidentalHandHold: Does one with Takeo after the first motive is revealed.
* AssholeVictim: He's quite cruel, doesn't care much for the other students and went out of his way to kill Mameko, who did nothing to him and wasn't planning to kill anybody. It's pretty safe to say he won't be missed by anybody after being executed by Monobear.
* BrutalHonesty: Reisuke won't hesitate to tell someone exactly what he thinks of them. Although he wasn't honest enough to confess to being the first culprit, and he would've gotten away with his dishonesty if there had been ''one less vote'' for him.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Dismembered, disemboweled and just completely eviscerated by a horde of chainsaw-wielding Monobears.
* DeadpanSnarker: He’s got quite the dry sense of humour.
* EasilyForgiven: As the "dead students blog" reveals, he is easily forgiven by Mameko; when Reisuke wakes up in the afterlife, Mameko runs up to him and hugs him crying in relief that he's in one piece, despite the fact that he killed her.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Much to his irritation, Takeo insists on calling him "Rei-chan". Well, before his brutal demise, that is.
* EyepatchOfPower: Wears a black one on his left eye.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Well, he ''tries'', anyway, smiling when he's about to be torn apart by chainsaws, but when Takeo gets injured trying to save him, he starts wailing and struggling before he finally dies.
* HatesSmallTalk: Doesn't like being approached unless it's important.
%%* ImNotHereToMakeFriends: A fact that's all but proven when he murders Mameko.
* IntelligenceEqualsIsolation: He’s rather smart, but this leads him to be rather independent.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Is sometimes perceived as this. Given that he's the ''first murderer'', just to get his lost memories back, that perception may not have been ''entirely'' inaccurate.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: Wears one, befitting his talent as a forensic biologist.
* LackOfEmpathy: Hardly cares much for his fellow students as it is. And that's before he murders the nicest member of the cast.
* LaughingMad: Reisuke snaps and bursts into insane laughter after he is correctly pinned as the murderer of Mameko Moriyama.
%%* MaddenIntoMisanthropy: In the afterlife, since the living students are too noisy for him.
* MaskOfSanity: He wears one, appearing as calm and dignified, though snarky ...But it shatters before his consequent demise.
* MoodSwinger: He’s not usually one, it’s only during his breakdown.
* NearVillainVictory: He was just ''one vote away'' from avoiding execution for his murder of Mameko.
%%* NeatFreak
* NotAfraidToDie: In fact, Reisuke seemed all too eager to die during his execution.
%%* NotAMorningPerson
* NotEnoughToBury: The Monobear units rip his body apart to such an extent that, much like Gwendolyn's death, very little remains when the execution is finished.
* NotSoStoic: While normally composed, he breaks down and starts screaming after Takeo is injured trying to save him from his execution.
* OfficialCouple: With Takeo, before his fall into despair. On the dead blog, the two ended up sleeping in the same bed, hinting that they ''may'' have rekindled their relationship after losing their memories.
* ParentalNeglect: After his parents got a divorce, thus causing his father to leave, Reisuke's mother became bitter and began neglecting him.
* PersonalEffectsReveal: After Reisuke's death, Takeo claims his key card and enters his room, where he finds an old family photograph hidden in one of Reisuke's books.
* PhotographicMemory: He has an eidetic memory that helps him in his profession.
* PsychoticSmirk: Sports one of these during his breakdown.
%%* SelfMadeMan
* TallDarkAndSnarky: He’s a tall guy, has black hair and a snarky personality.
* TheStoic: Has a very calm and collected demeanor. Or so it seems.

!!Setsuko Kuramoto
!!!Super High-School Level Drag Racer
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/setsuko_sprite_9289.png]]
Despite lacking support from her banker family, Setsuko's passion for automotives led her to enter the world of drag racing. Her talent has attracted international attention, and she's received contacts from various car manufacturers asking her to represent them.

She was executed at the end of the ninth trial, sacrificing herself to prevent Yukie Seki from execution after the vote was randomized.
----
* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Forms this sort of trio with Hotaru and Etsuko, fulfilling the role of the Brawn.
* BerserkButton: Messing with her friends will ''royally'' piss her off. For example, in Chapter 2's trial, Takara makes fun of Etsuko for multiple reasons, and finally Setsuko gets so pissed off she marches over to Takara's podium and lifts him up by his shirt so she can yell at him, and then she threatens to beat him up if he continues being an ass.
* BeYourself: Her backstory. Her family thought that drag racing was just a "hobby" for her, but then it turned out to be her SHSL talent and she became tremendously successful at it.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Maybe not in appearance, but she acts rather boyish.
%%* TheBigRace: Not in the Doubt Academy story, but her SHSL talent is winning these big races.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Sacrifices herself to be executed in Yukie's place when Yukie is picked to be executed in Chapter 9. Setsuko is chained inside a white race car that Monobear controls with a remote control. Monobear uses another control to cause a black race car to crash into Setsuko's car. The car eventually flips upside-down and the engine catches fire, causing the car to become a melting wreck that burns Setsuko to death.
* CoolCar: The first car she ever bought was a Lancia Delta Integrale, and she nicknamed it "Honey".
* CutenessOverload: Setsuko's easily overwhelmed by anything she considers cute, such as Etsuko's use of the word "Fluff" instead of a swear word or Hotaru's chameleon Midori-chan.
* HeadPet: After Hotaru is murdered, ''somebody'' has to take care of Midori-san the chameleon. After that, Setsuko's sprites are drawn with a chameleon on top of her head.
* LaughingMad: Setsuko ''almost'' has a moment of this during Taichi's execution, since Taichi murdered Hotaru, one of Setsuko's closest friend. But then when Setsuko catches herself about to do this, she's horrified that she could wish for Taichi's execution to hurt, and resolves to keep her emotions in check.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Has a moment of this after she's realized her mistake of pushing the vote for Yukari Maruyama in Chapter 8. While this was a logical move in her eyes and she gets her revenge, she still panics that because Yukari didn't kill Reika, she's technically sending an innocent to death.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: To Hiroshi after he is revealed to have murdered King in Chapter 7. Interestingly, it is noted in-story that Setsuko is taking revenge on the wrong person, since while Hiroshi did indeed murder King, he did ''not'' murder Etsuko, Setsuko's friend-turned-lover. Atsuko even notes that Setsuko is stealing what should be ''her'' revenge.
* OfficialCouple: With Etsuko, but they only made their feelings clear just before Etsuko was murdered in Chapter 7.
* ProductPlacement: In her backstory, multiple car manufacturing companies asked her to represent them while she was racing.
* RageAgainstTheReflection: Her reaction to Monobear's second motive is to punch a mirror, breaking the glass and tearing up her hand in the process.
* SanitySlippage: After Chapter 7’s events, she is showing signs of this.
* SelfHarm: After Yukari's fiery execution, Setsuko scratches vigorously at the burns on her arms until they bleed and she has to bandange them.
* StressVomit: Has a panic attack after watching Yukari's execution, in which after it's over she proceeds to stumble out of the courtroom and puke on her way back to the hotel.
* TenderTears: Setusko hugs herself and starts crying when it comes time to vote in Chapter 3's trial, because she's sure that the culprit only killed the victim by accident. This trope is all the more notable coming from someone as temperamental as ''Setsuko'' of all people.
* TragicKeepsake: Entrusted with Midori's care after Hotaru's murder.
* TraumaCongaLine: The events of Chapter 7 are not kind to her. She finds her lover Etsuko dead, to which her response is to threaten everyone in the vicinity with a shotgun. During the trial when she finds that Yukari killed Etsuko, she begs everyone to vote Yukari seeing that in her current mental state, it would be better for everyone else because if not, she'll most likely murder Yukari the second the immunity wears off. Instead, the students vote for Hiroshi, someone who she considered a friend. Afterwards when she tries to find Takara, who Etsuko told Setsuko to protect in her will, only to discover his dead body. So yes, these past few chapters haven't been kind to her. Her reaction post to Takara's abrupt demise after the trial is actually titled this.
* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: Every time Setsuko talks, she sometimes leaves out letters or syllables. For example: "So yer theory doesn't really make ‘ny sense." Sometimes though if Setsuko starts to berate someone, [[OohMeAccentsSlipping her accent will drop]], only momentarily. After Chapter 7 it appears that her accent is completely fake, as she drops it the second she find Etsuko's body.

!!Shizuka Fujiwara
!!!Super High-School Level Poet
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shizuka_sprite_9689.png]]
A published poet by the age of 12, Shizuka is destined to be one of the greats. Her poems move the emotions of her readers and some are even being taught at a collegiate level. Her most popular work is slated to become a feature-length film.

She confesses to the murder of Reika Ichikawa during the tenth trial, survives the final trial, and escapes from Magical Miracleworld with the other survivors.
----
* ChildProdigy: Has been a published writer since age 12, and that writing is critically acclaimed. Also, she taught herself English in addition to her native Japanese since she was 10.
* DespairEventHorizon: You would think she'd have already crossed it when Kyou dies, but she actually falls deeper into despair after they fail to find his killer. So much so that she ''passes out.''
* GirlishPigtails: Has her hair tied in a low, short pair with green hair-ties.
* KarmaHoudini: Shizuka was never properly singled out during Reika's trial, leaving Yukari to be executed instead. When Tsutomu confronts her about this during the tenth trial, Shizuka claims that she actually didn't want to avoid her punishment but decided to keep quiet after Kyou made her promise not to put herself in danger.
* TheMovie: Her most popular tale is being turned into a movie later this year.
* OfficialCouple: With Kyou. Unfortunately cut short when Kyou is murdered in Chapter 9.
* SensoryOverload: She's easily overwhelmed by loud noises. Like the students arguing in the class trials, for instance.
* SympatheticMurderer: Maybe. Shizuka claims that she shot Reika in the shoulder after discovering her attempting to kill an unconscious Tsutomu, causing the private tutor to fall, re-open the head wound Aoi had given her, and bleed out. However, this doesn't explain the other injuries found on Reika, and the apparent attempt to frame Tsutomu for Reika's murder after the fact may make her less sympathetic.
* YouthfulFreckles: Has some on her cheeks.

!!Taichi Yuuta
!!!Super High-School Level Barista
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/taichi_sprite_9276.png]]
Despite having a SHSL talent, Taichi believes he's a normal kid that simply decided to focus his time and effort on something he enjoys. He's completely dedicated to his work, to the point it almost feels as if there is nothing more to his life than his job as a barista.

The second culprit of the killing game, having murdered Hotaru Ando, he is found guilty for her murder and is executed.
----
* BerserkButton: Bad coffee, as evidenced by his rant-inducing slight from watching Aoi make terrible coffee with quality beans and being unable to stop him since Taichi is trapped in the afterlife.
* ChainedToABed: Tied to his own bed with ropes in the afterlife.
* CooldownHug: Delivers quite a few of these to Hotaru in the afterlife, once they grow close.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Monobear drops Taichi through a trapdoor, and it turns out Taichi lands in a giant coffee pot that Monobear then proceeds to fill with hot coffee. Once the pot is completely full, Monobear turns the pot's settings to "Boiling", burning and boiling Taichi to death.
* EtTuBrute: Hotaru is in love with him, but she turns out to be his target for a murder in Chapter 2.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: After explaining to everyone that his murder means they don't have to fear the "motive" being in play anymore, instead of fighting his execution, he just turns to Monobear and says, "Monobear, if you please." Also, during the execution itself, once it becomes clear exactly ''how'' Monobear is going to execute him, he just holds still with morbid curiosity instead of struggling.
* GoodWithNumbers: Downplayed example; one of his skills is that he's good at measuring how much something weighs just by lifting it, or just on sight alone.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: So much so, that he ''believes'' he’s just a normal kid.
* ImNotHereToMakeFriends: Rather, Taichi sees his only purpose to be a barista, not someone's friend. He even finds some fleeting feeling of happiness just before he dies in that, in the end, he was really only the barista to his classmates.
* KindRestraints: In the afterlife, Taichi is tied to his own bed by Hotaru. However, it's to prevent him from permanently erasing himself by destroying his chip data the same way that ended Takara.
* LetThemDieHappy: It turns out that before murdering Hotaru, the date he took her on was ''real''. He really did give Hotaru two hours of romantic happiness before giving her the poison.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Unintentionally becomes this for Hotaru in the afterlife, as she starts to break from seeing the events of the Killing Game.
* MaddenIntoMisanthropy: In the afterlife, since the living students are too noisy for him. But then reversed when he manages to come up with an investigation plan that's actually useful, which means he's given purpose again.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Taichi's 100% coffee. He drinks the stuff like water.
* NotSoStoic: When he's telling the story of Hotaru's death, he breaks down when he reaches the point where he kills her. He also accepts his death with a smile.
* OfficialCouple: He becomes this with Hotaru in the afterlife, although this wasn't revealed until Doubt Academy Black was over and the "dead students blog" was opened to the public. Hotaru was in love with Taichi before the murder, so after she initially responds by cursing and spitting at him, they both eventually make amends after Taichi comes up with an investigation plan, causing Hotaru to blush at his new straightforwardness.
* OneThingLedToAnother: Basically what happened in the afterlife after Hotaru ties Taichi to his bed. Wanting to make up for what she did leads to kissing and before they know it it turns into sex, jump-starting their relationship, and Taichi promising that he would stay with her.
* PerpetualExpression: Something pretty incredible has to happen in order for Taichi to break from his perpetual neutral mask.
* PetTheDog: Or rather, Pet The Chameleon. After he murdered Hotaru, it turns out that he made sure Midori-san was safe in the tank before he cleaned up the crime scene. Also, the fact that he gave Hotaru a genuine romantic date before poisoning her could also qualify as this trope.
* RageBreakingPoint: In the afterlife, Aoi and Reika screw up making coffee, causing Taichi to become an "angry coffee god" and explain to them how simple it is to make coffee and how could they possibly screw up transferring beans to a machine, etc.
* RealMenWearPink: He wears a hair-band with a small flower on it.
* TamperingWithFoodAndDrink: Taichi murders Hotaru by poisoning a cup of coffee he makes for her with cyanide.
* TheQuietOne: Downplayed; if he isn't interested or it isn't important to him in some way, he'll avoid talking too much.
* SexFaceTurn: Happens after he has sex with Hotaru. Before, he lost his motivation to care about or stick around for any of his classmates once he found out everyone in the afterlife is KilledOffForReal, and though he did care about Hotaru his guilt was strong enough that he'd rather run away and erase himself permanently by any means. After, he ends up in a loving relationship with Hotaru and promises to stay in the afterlife until the end.
* SoHappyTogether: Taichi and Hotaru basically get together in the afterlife right before the end of the game. They have about a day and a night of happiness together, but they anticipate they will be erased the next trial. As it turns out, their data ends up stored in stasis on a hard drive and their fates are unknown.
* TheStoic: One of his skills is his endless patience, no matter what drudgery he might have to push himself through. He also always wears a blank mask, showing no emotions.
* TogetherInDeath: He’s reunited with Hotaru after he’s executed for killing her, although she’s obviously not too happy to see him at first.
* {{Workaholic}}: Somehow, everything he does ends up with him making a cup of coffee.

!!Takara Ojimura
!!!Super High-School Level Chess Player
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takara_sprite_8551.png]]
Takara is a somewhat lazy person who would prefer to only do things he absolutely needs to. He's a bit abrasive and full of himself to people he doesn't know or trust, and doesn't work well in groups. However, when someone manages to get past that, they find that Takara is a very good person to work with, though he is still prone to being lazy.

Dies after the seventh trial when he tries to escape the park through a secret door, but fails to enter the correct code.
----
* BerserkButton:
** Well, he has a temper ''in general'', but surprisingly there's one thing that can make him mad even after he promises before Chapter 3's trial that he won't explode: Angelo calling him a "fuckhead".
** Reika talking down to him and trying to put him in his place. He responds by getting in Reika's face and shouting at her that she is a peasant, that Takara is from the ''Ojimura'' family, that you do not talk to an Ojimura that way, and if the next words out of Reika's mouth aren't "I'm sorry, Ojimura-sama", then Reika shouldn't bother opening her mouth ever again.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: The Ojimura family is rather messed up.
* BlindWithoutEm: Takara admits to having 20/120 vision and not being able to see four feet in front of him with his glasses.
* CessationOfExistence: Takara doesn't make it to the afterlife after dying, because the specific manner of his death fried the chip in his brain, so he couldn't be stored as backup data. As a result, Takara effectively vanishes.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair and brown eyes.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: In a conversation with Yukie, he revealed his mother was kidnapped and ransomed back to his father. The events of the kidnapping scarred Takara for life. Turns out it's a ''literal scar'', as not only was his mother kidnapped, but he and his now deceased brother as well.
* DeaderThanDead: At least as dead as you can possibly get in a killing game. Thanks to the nature of the backup chips, all of the dead students [[BackFromTheDead have the potential to be cloned and essentially come back to life]]...but due to the method in which he died, his backup chip was shorted out, meaning not only can he not be saved, his spirit doesn't manifest in the afterlife. Barring the students from ''Doubt Academy 1'', Takara's one of the few students that ''can't'' be resurrected in any way possible.
* ExtendedGreetings: Always introduces himself as "Takara Ojimura, Super High School Level Chess Player, Elo Rate 2756, Currently ranked 13th in the world and 1st in the Juniors." It's usually followed by a smirk and at least one person groaning.
* TheExtremistWasRight: Takara behaves like a complete jerk during the first trial, screaming at his classmates about how obvious it was who the culprit was. Then the culprit, whose identity he guessed correctly, is voted as the culprit by a margin of a single vote. If not for Takara screaming the idea at everyone, it's possible there wouldn't have been enough votes to convict the correct person.
* FatalFlaw: His {{Pride}} often leaves him alone and hated.
* IKnowKarate: Reveals his grandfather taught him tessenjutsu so he could defend himself if the bodyguards he had failed.
* {{Jerkass}}: He's convinced that the first murderer is Reisuke, and if his classmates can't see that then they're all ''idiots'', because he's handing them the murderer! While he ''does'' attempt to control his temper in the second trial, he continues to have a nasty attitude.
* JerkassHasAPoint: His reasoning for suspecting Reisuke is sound enough, and it turns out he's actually right. However, his condescending, smug attitude doesn't do him any favors when it comes to convincing the others, given he spends more time hurling out insults and pitching a fit than explaining his reasoning.
* KickTheDog: When Etsuko rejects Takara's theory about the second murder, he responds by mocking her physical condition by saying "apparently it's not just Etsuko's legs that are useless." That is, he attacks Etsuko's wheelchair-bound condition to drive his point home. On top of this, he calls her a "braindead runt", making fun of her height as well. Finally, he mocks Etsuko for crying by reminding her that they are "high school students, not kindergartners."
* LonelyRichKid: His arrogant nature due to growing up in a privileged family has left him without many friends.
* MeaningfulName: Takara Ojimura means "Treasure Village of the King." If applied to a chessboard, the Treasure village is all the pieces, and the King is... well, the King.
* NotHelpingYourCase:
** During the first trial, his attitude boils down to "''I'' figured out who the culprit is, and all of ''you'' need to stop trying to work through the evidence on your own and just listen to me while I tell you all why I'm completely right and you're all wrong." As it turns out, he was right about the culprit.
** In the second case, he tries to avoid making a similar mistake, but winds up verbally abusing one student in particular for disagreeing with him.
* NotSoStoic: He doesn't do a very good job of keeping calm when the others want to work through the evidence during the first trial instead of just blindly following his lead, and has trouble with mounting personal attacks on those who disagree with them.
* {{Omniglot}}: Claims to know (read: butcher) Mandarin Chinese, Korean, German, Spanish, French and English in addition to his native Japanese. He states he learned these languages for chess reasons.
* PrecisionFStrike:
** Takara's reaction to finding Mameko's body is to get angry at his classmates for not listening to him and calling them "FUCKING BASTARDS." This has more weight to it when you realize no matter how much of a {{Jerkass}} he is, he's ''never'' sworn.
** His reaction to Iko's death in chapter 3 is to call everyone "motherFUCKERS" and promise to deliver whoever killed Iko to the Bear's mercy.
* RousingSpeech: Attempts to give one to the others after Monobear reveals his first motive to kill. Takara tells everyone not to allow Monobear to goad them into a "forced move", or sacrifice chess pieces to him.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:
** When the others reject Takara's "Climax Inference" argument, Takara gets so pissed off that they weren't even willing to consider his argument that he deliberately votes for himself, reasoning that if he were executed he wouldn't have to hang around with these people anymore.
** After the seventh trial, he attempts to escape the park via a secret door in the back of the Cryogenic Lab. Unfortunately, he fails to enter the correct code and is killed for it.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: It's apparently Ojimura Family tradition to take a Historic and Cultural Profession- Aside from Takara's chess playing, his sister, Nanako, is a Flower Arranger, his father is a Fisherman, and his Grandfather was a Martial Arts Instructor.
%%* SmartPeoplePlayChess: It's his SHSL talent, in fact.
* TheStoic: One of his skills is to be able to keep calm under pressure where others would crumble.
* StoicSpectacles: He wears glasses, and he’s rather calm most of the time.
%%* SpareToTheThrone: Because his older brother, Kyosuke, was killed.
* TookALevelInKindness: Zigzagged. While he does show signs of CharacterDevelopment, changing one's ways is much harder than anticipated, especially during such stressful situations. His tendency to revert to [[KickTheDog dog-kicking]] and vicious insults whenever he's frustrated with how the trials are developing don't help.
%%* UnsportsmanlikeGloating: After Reisuke is revealed as the first murderer, Takara engages in this.
* WellDoneSonGuy: He decided to enroll in Hope's Peak in order to please his family.
* WouldHitAGirl: After Reika puts him down during the third trial, he says that the next time she 'opens her mouth to question him or his actions, he will not hesitate to slap it right off her face.'

!!Takeo Hironaka
!!!Super High-School Level Stuntman
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takeo_sprite_3742.png]]
After emulating stunts he had seen in action movies on the playground to impress girls as a child, Takeo discovered he had a natural talent. Since then he has become one of the most famous stuntmen in Japan, despite reports of a foul personality.

He was the victim in the fifth case, dying of exsanguination after having his throat slit by Kei Katsuya.
----
* TheAlcoholic: Of the ten items he had in the Monomachine, ''three'' were bottles of alcohol.
* AscendedFanboy: He used to watch action movies with his father. Then he started emulating the action stunts he saw on-screen, and lo and behold, that turned out to be his SHSL talent.
* AssholeVictim: Not him, actually, but he personally feels that ''Iko'' of all people was this, because Iko had previously cheered Reisuke's death, and since Reisuke meant a lot to Takeo, he feels nothing for Iko's death now. At least he promises to find Iko's killer, though.
* BathroomStallGraffiti: Or, well, notebook graffiti, in this case. During an information gathering outing with Reisuke, Takeo stops by the information desk to read the notebook Hotaru has left for them to list their theories and facts... and promptly writes "TAKEO HIRONAKA HAS A BIG DICK" in the facts section.
* BerserkButton: Speaking ill of Reisuke. He invokes this during the first trial, where he stops grieving ''just'' long enough to snap at Angelo and Iko for their reactions. It happens again during the third trial, when Etsuko suggests they rule Iko's death a suicide since the murder was accidental. Takeo flips out when his classmates begin to follow her lead, arguing that since Reisuke had to die, so does Blazing Justice Phoenix. He ends his speech by calling them all horrible people and pieces of shit.
* BookDumb: What he has in looks and athletics, he lacks in brains.
* ChaoticStupid: In the first two trials, he attempts to get himself executed even though this would allow a murderer to go free, and in the first trial, he attempts to take a chainsaw in the chest for Reisuke, even though there were lots of Monobears who would probably have just killed Reisuke even if Takeo's sacrifice had succeeded. In the third trial, he casts his vote on the grounds of "Fuck it" before the discussion even really gets underway, for Blazing Justice Phoenix. He steps up his game during the fourth trial and hoards evidence he found during the investigation in the hopes that it'll make him look suspicious.
%%* CompetitionFreak
* CoolBike: Rides a black Kawasaki [=ZZR1200=] with burgundy trim.
* TheCorruptible: The corruption in this case is, of course, the act of murder. Many of his classmates seem to be more wary of him than of others due to his volatile nature.
* CradleOfLoneliness: After acquiring Reisuke's room key, Takeo retrieves one of his lab coats and clings to it like a safety blanket.
* DeclarationOfProtection: To Reisuke. Unfortunately, he isn't able to fulfill this promise, and Reisuke gets voted as the culprit during the first trial.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: While Takeo's eyes were previously described as vibrant and bright, the onset of Chapter 2 sees a dramatic shift. Takeo begins to beg the others to kill him, and from that point on, his eyes are described as dull or dim.
* ExtremeDoormat: While the beginning of the game revealed him to be outgoing and assertive, by the beginning of Chapter 2, Takeo loses all desire to stand up for himself. He even apologizes when Angelo serves him some pretty harsh words.
* EasilyForgiven: Despite Kei having murdered him, the first thing he does when the two reunite is to grip her shoulders, give her a reassuring smile, and let her know that he doesn't blame her ''at all''. The two actually become surprisingly close.
* FalseConfession: Up until the third trial, he does this continuously. King even confronts him before the second trial in order to beg him not to confess, because he ''knows'' it's coming. Unsurprisingly, Takeo does it anyway.
* FunctionalAddict: In Chapter 1, during his confession, he states that he killed Mameko because, as an addict, he has a lot of gaps in his memory and he wanted to regain as much as he could. While much of that was a lie, he ''did'' have a drug addiction in the past and no one suspected.
* GroinAttack: Receives one from Etsuko.
* HandsomeLech: He’s rather perverted, but pretty cute-looking.
%%* HatesBeingAlone
* HeroicSacrifice: Unable to stand by and watch Reisuke get executed, he interferes in an attempt to save him and earns a chainsaw to the chest. While it does almost kill him, unlike most other examples of this trope, he survives.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: There are rumors that he has a foul personality, and he tends to step on people's toes inadvertently when he's not flirting with anything that moves, but those close to him say his heart's in the right place.
* KidAnova: In part, as he emulated action stunts on the playground to impress girls.
* KindHeartedCatLover: He's not ''totally'' a jerk and despite him trying to keep it hidden, he loves cats.
* LastRequest: Kei reveals that before he died, Takeo made her promise to entrust his own room key to Khadija, and Reisuke's to Katsuo.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Has this relationship with Khadija. She does ''not'' take his death well.
* LoveConfession: To Reisuke. After Reisuke's death, Takeo develops a habit of talking to him daily. In one such instance, he lets it slip that his feelings, which have never been mistakable for platonic, are actually feelings of ''love''.
* LoveHurts: His feelings for Reisuke drive him to try and sacrifice himself in his place. When that fails, he rushes in during Reisuke's execution and gets critically injured trying to rescue him. From the moment he wakes up in the infirmary, he sets off on a quest to end his own life. Ultimately, love is his downfall.
* OfficialCouple: With Reisuke, prior to his fall into despair. On the dead blog, the two ended up sleeping in the same bed, hinting that they ''may'' have rekindled their relationship after losing their memories.
* ParentalAbandonment: His parents threw him out, for a multitude of reasons. He hasn't had any contact with them since.
* {{Polyamory}}: Takeo is polyamarous. Although he sure seems to only have eyes for Reisuke.
* ThePromise: The day before his tragic demise, he makes a promise to Tsutomu that the two of them will escape and watch horror movies together on the outside. That night, Takeo's corpse is found.
* PullTheIV: After waking up in the infirmary, Takeo's first course of action is to tear the IV from his arm.
* RevengeMyopia: He's expressed an interest in seeing some of the others suffer for condemning Reisuke to death, despite the fact that Reisuke was hardly innocent himself. Most of his hatred seems to be directed at Takara in particular.
* SelfProclaimedLoveInterest: When King questions the relationship between Takeo and Reisuke, Takeo replies that they aren't dating...yet. These feelings are clearly one-sided, as Reisuke seems all-too-willing to let Takeo die in his place.
* StuntDouble: His talent is that he’s skilled at being this.
* TakeMeInstead:
** Takeo confesses to the first murder, despite not being a suspect until doing so. The others see through his gambit, though barely.
** He tries to do this [[RunningGag again]] during chapter 2's trial, voting for himself before everyone even starts discussing their alibis.
** It happens [[RuleOfThree again]] in the third trial, where he asks his classmates to execute him instead of someone who may have committed the murder on accident.
** In the fourth trial, he tries [[OverlyLongGag yet again]] to shoulder the blame by concealing evidence and keeping quiet when his name comes up as a possible suspect, and at one point, he even votes for himself. Unlike the first three times, he doesn't try to convince everyone else to vote him once his vote is cast, however.
* TalkingToTheDead: He makes it a daily habit to speak to Reisuke from outside his dormitory, and after obtaining his key card, from inside the room itself.
* TantrumThrowing: During the fourth trial, Takeo remains quiet in the hopes that the students will recognize that some of the evidence points to him and execute him. When Hiroshi confesses to having framed Takeo, the latter gets angry enough to fling Yamato's shoe at Hiroshi. He later blows up at Takara and throws another piece of hoarded evidence - the other half of the rope - at him.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: Invoked during Takara's heartfelt apology to Takeo, to which the latter replies that he'll ''never'' forgive Takara for the role he played in Reisuke's execution. Takeo's words even come complete with a DeathGlare.
* TogetherInDeath: He reunites with Reisuke in the afterlife after he’s murdered by Kei.
* TragicKeepsake: Received Reisuke's gloves from the Mono Machine. Additionally, Hitoshi gives him a copy of Alfred Hitchcock's ''Psycho'' that was meant for Reisuke.
* UndyingLoyalty: So much so, in fact, that he's willing to sacrifice his own life to divert attention away from the true culprit.
* UnmanlySecret: He ''really'' likes cats, but this doesn't fit in with his "cool guy" persona, so it's one of his more well-guarded secrets. His top gift was the Tamagotchi given to Iko in Chapter 2.
* UnsportsmanlikeGloating: After correctly voting for Yamato Hasegawa in Chapter 4, Takeo's immediate reaction is to flip off Takara, who was pushing for a different outcome.
* WallSlump: His corpse is found slumped against a desk in the genetic engineering lab.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: His reaction to how Gwen die via an explosion triggers a more extreme reaction than you'd expect for a stuntman.

!!Tsutomu Joukawa
!!!Super High-School Level Janitor
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsutomu_sprite_3001.png]]
A young man with a passion and talent for cleaning. He took a variety of janitorial night jobs to support his working-class family until his age was outed by a high profile newspaper, causing a child labor scandal.

He survives the final trial and escapes from Magical Miracleworld with the other survivors.
----
* AlmightyJanitor: Tsutomu pulls a lot of weight in the behind-the-scenes investigating, but he maintains a relatively low profile. Bonus points for actually being a janitor.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: In the endgame, instead of reviving the Mastermind's body, Tsutomu sabotages the machine so the body dies, since he feels that the Mastermind has "dues to pay" like everyone else, so she can live as an IP like all the other dead people. He feels he did what he had to do, although he does lie so Katsuo, who was nearby at the time, won't find out, and later he reflects that someday he'll have to pay his dues, too.
* LoveIsAWeakness: Or rather, in Tsutomu's opinion, ''having sex'' is a weakness, since as he muses in Chapter 3's trial after BJP and Angelo confess to having been intimate, if you're in a mutual killing game, why would you put yourself in a vulnerable position that easily lets someone stab you in the back?
* MarriedToTheJob: ''Extremely'' dedicated to his job as a janitor.
* NeatFreak: As the Super High School Level Janitor, it's a given that he’d be this.
%%* SpringCleaningFever
* TragicKeepsake: Just before his death in Chapter 5, Takeo tells Tsutomu that he wants him to have his pendant should anything happen to him. Tsutomu recalls these words, and pockets his necklace shortly after finding his corpse.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: This almost caused trouble in the past; he ran afoul of child labor laws by doing professional adult janitor jobs, but this trouble was reduced when he accepted the invitation of a certain academy.

!!Wataru Mishina
!!!Super High-School Level Ballerino/Danseur
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wataru_6332.png]]
A brash young man whose successes as a ballet dancer have helped it become more accessible for other boys. Has starred in various lead roles throughout Asia, and become the only male Japanese ballerino to land a named role in a production by the Paris Opera ballet.

He survives the final trial and escapes from Magical Miracleworld with the other survivors.
----
* {{Ballet}}: His SHSL Talent is that he’s good at this.
* BlitheSpirit: His brash and air-headed personality makes him somewhat this, or at least a "free spirit".
* BookDumb: He can’t exactly be called “bright”.
* BrutalHonesty: His general approach when dealing with people is lacking in a filter.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He does whatever he wants, which can make him isolated, but he morphs into a serious and entirely different person when dancing.
%%* CannotTalkToWomen
* EagleEyeDetection: He developed the ability to do this by noticing his partners' movements.
* OutOfFocus: Missing in action for a large portion of the game. Justified; [[RealLifeWritesThePlot his player had to temporarily leave because of a calamity that was ravaging his country]].
* PintsizedPowerhouse: He's described as having a "small and lithe frame", but his muscles are tremendously strong so he can lift female partners without messing up the ballet routine.
* RealMenWearPink: His pink beanie is right in his profile picture.
* ShipTease: Has a slight case of this with Yukari.
* StressVomit: Even though there were no gory remains when Gwendolyn was blown to bits, the sudden realization that the bear wasn't kidding about his threat and witnessing death for the first time caused him to throw up.
* TheIdiotFromOsaka: Not the sharpest tool in the shed and has the tendency to be needlessly bizarre.
* TheStoic: Wataru ''almost'' considers becoming this, since the whole process is starting to resemble some kind of sick protocol, and he ''almost'' considers treating the whole thing as a macabre dance production, but he pulls himself together upon realizing that if he does that he might end up voting for innocent people.

!!Yamato Hasegawa
!!!Super High-School Level Voice Actor
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yamato_sprite_567.png]]
Started voice acting at fourteen, and his soaring popularity landed him roles in popular series by the time he was sixteen. His incredible popularity can make him seem egotistical, but he's actually very laid back.

He was the victim in the fourth case, killed by a head injury from a fall. The aftermath of the third trial drove Yamato to commit suicide, but his attempt was interrupted by Hiroshi Kagami. However, their combined weight broke the scaffolding under them, causing Yamato to fall to his death.
----
* AscendedFanboy: He started voice acting as a hobby, but quickly became good at it.
* BigBeautifulMan: He weighs 105 kilograms, or 232 pounds, yet despite his profile picture reflecting this by displaying him as rather large, he is also drawn rather cute.
* CouldntFindAPen: Hiroshi did this for Yamato, writing the voice actor's "dying message" in stage blood to implicate Takeo.
* CrossdressingVoices: InUniverse. He has such a wide range of possible tones that he can do girl voices as well as boy voices.
* DrivenToSuicide: Revealed to have been intending to commit suicide by hanging himself from the scaffolding of the park amphitheater. The death of two of his friends - and the fact that Monobear was using the life of another friend as a ''motive'' apparently played a large part in his decision.
* DyingClue: Appears to have been trying to write one before he died. However, given the fact that the head trauma he suffered from falling killed him instantly, ''and'' the wrist of the hand he seemingly wrote with was too badly broken to move as it was, it's clear that Yamato wasn't the one who wrote that message.
* EatTheEvidence: Not intentionally, but he comes very close to eating the fudge connected with chapter 2's case before Blazing Justice Phoenix intercepts him.
* InterruptedSuicide: Sadly subverted. Hiroshi interrupted Yamato's suicide attempt, succeeded in talking him down... and had to watch as the scaffolding gave out under Yamato's weight and the voice actor ended up plunging to his death moments after they'd agreed to leave the amphitheater together.
* ManOfAThousandVoices: His vocal range is vast enough that he can play anything from demonic to soft and sweet. He's also taken some female roles.
* NiceGuy: A notable example, because as his profile explains, he is in a popular enough position that it could make him egotistical; instead, he's laid-back and comedic.
* PhotographicMemory: Downplayed version, not exactly photographic but ''close''; he has a great "verbal memory", that is, he can easily remember things that people have said.
* PrecisionFStrike: Iko was a very dear friend to him, so when Yamato learns that Iko has been murdered in Chapter 3, his reaction is to scream at his classmates, "WHICH ONE OF YOU FUCKERS DID THIS TO IKO?! SHE DID NOTHING TO YOU!! I-I SWEAR WHEN I FIND OUT WHO DID THIS I-I WILL-" and then cover his face to cry.
* TragicKeepsake: Hitoshi gives him Iko's hat after she is killed.

!!Yukari Maruyama
!!!Super High-School Level Engineer
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukari_sprite_7231.png]]
Yukari's younger brother constantly upstages her in everything except engineering, which is why she has dedicated her life to engineering and mechanics.

She murders Etsuko in Chapter 7, but since Hiroshi received more votes than her and Hiroshi was pinned as the "culprit" of King's murder, Yukari is still granted "immunity". However, she is later - incorrectly - voted as the culprit during the eighth trial, and said immunity does not cover executions.
----
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: For Yukari's execution, a chain grabs Yukari around her throat and drags her to a conveyor belt covered with tar, then lets her go once her feet are stuck to the tar. The conveyor belt is dragging her to a giant Monobear-shaped furnace. Yukari manages to wait until the furnace burns away the tar stuck to her feet, and then tries to take off running. But Monobear hits an emergency stop button, causing Yukari to lose her balance and fall on her back on the tar, so now there's no way for Yukari to escape, and the conveyor belt finally dumps her inside the furnace, burning her to death.
* DirtyCoward: When she runs out of excuses and decisive evidence piles against her in the seventh trial, she admits to killing Etsuko. But after saying she just tried to choke Etsuko (not expecting her to fight back with sewing shears) and didn't ''mean'' to stab her repeatedly to death with the shears, she utterly begs for mercy. She's so afraid of dying that she begs the classmates for her life; to spare her from execution. This actually pays off and she leaves the trial with immunity.
* TheEngineer: You don't say. It’s ''literally'' her SHSL talent.
* GadgeteerGenius: She's an engineer, and a Super High School Level one at that. It kind of goes without saying.
* GoofyPrintUnderwear: When everyone has to strip during Chapter 2's trial to prove an alibi, Yukari asks everyone else not to laugh because she's wearing light blue underwear with cartoonish pictures of robots and gears on it.
* KarmaHoudini: Hiroshi received more total votes than her in Chapter 7, so while Hiroshi is executed for King's murder, Yukari is not executed for Etsuko's murder and is granted "immunity" from Monobear's motive. Despite escaping punishment the first time around, karma catches up with her when she is voted as the culprit during Chapter 8. As Monobear reveals immediately afterward, immunity only protects you from being killed. [[ExactWords It doesn't keep you from being executed.]]
* ShipTease: Has some slight scenes with Wataru.
* TheScapegoat: Is voted as the culprit for a crime she didn't commit during the eighth trial because the students aren't certain of the real culprit's identity and would rather execute a confirmed murderer than risk voting for an innocent.
* WhamLine: A bunch of them, actually. Yukari's last act before her execution is to make several confessions. One, a man named Xiwei Yosheda might be important. Two, the reason engineering is the only thing her brother didn't upstage her in was because when her brother tried engineering, ''Yukari sabotaged him.'' And three, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking her glasses have always been fake]].
* WrenchWench: She’s this due her talent as the SHSL Engineer. Although surprisingly, her profile picture doesn't ''look'' like this, so looks can be deceiving.

!!!Super High-School Level Tea Ceremony Host
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukie_sprite_4664.png]]
Yukie grew up in a family that was ''obsessed'' with Japanese traditions, and Yukie got into her talent as SHSL Tea Ceremony Host because she accompanied her father on frequent "cultural trips", and she enjoyed participating in the "tea ceremony" trip so much that she requested extra lessons on it. She's now become a symbol of calmness nation-wide because of her talent at tea ceremonies, but she's actually skittish, especially around men.

After Kyou's death is incorrectly voted as a suicide, a student is chosen at random to be executed. Sadly, despite her innocence, Yukie is the one chosen... but Setsuko sacrifices herself in Yukie's place, so Yukie goes on to survive the final trial and escape Magical Miracleworld with the other survivors.
----
* BaitAndSwitch: Yukie was set to be executed in Chapter 9, but doesn't die as Setsuko sacrifices herself in Yukie's place.
%%* CuteClumsyGirl
* DoesNotLikeMen: She didn’t at first, but she seems to have grown out of it.
%%* HatesBeingTouched
* InsistentTerminology: Does not like being called by her first name, and corrects anyone who does. Her knee-jerk reaction is usually PlayedForLaughs.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She feels it's her fault that Usami was punished in Chapter 4; if Yukie hadn't brought Usami's mistake to Monobear's attention, maybe Monobear would've gotten mad. The narration points out the irrationality of her thoughts, but Yukie feels that things being her fault is "how it always was".
* PetTheDog: After the fourth trial, Yukie's the first student to ask if Usami is okay.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Completely averted! Despite how several other seemingly nice students with red eyes have broken under the pressure of the killing game, she never kills anybody. Even when she's picked by an angered Monobear to be executed in Chapter 9, Setsuko steps up and sacrifices herself, and Yukie doesn't take advantage of her selfless act.
* ShoutOut: During chapter 4's trial, she at one point shouts "That's not true!" complete with an accompanying "interruption picture", in a manner similar to Super Dangan Ronpa 2's "interruption" segments that led to Cross Sword mini-games.
* ShrinkingViolet: She’s rather skittish.
* SickEpisode: Catches an unspecified illness during the third investigation to justify the player's absence during the trial.
* TenderTears: Usually whenever she thinks she might be in danger of voting for the wrong person as the culprit, or whenever she wants to apologize for getting it right and possibly sending someone to their death.
* WorkingThroughTheCold: Tries to do this during the third investigation period. She quickly becomes confused after thinking that Iko was buried in a hole instead of in the pool and gets lost trying to find the only exit in the room.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Has a reputation as one in the public eye. She isn’t actually one though.

!!Yumiko Hasegawa
!!!Super High-School Level Journalist
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yumiko_sprite_3936.png]]
A highly driven young woman. In her first two years of high school alone, she penned numerous exposes for both local and national newspapers, breaking news on various scandals. Though very intelligent and curious, she's also stubborn and arrogant, believing that she's always right.

She is falsely accused of being the Mastermind in their first attempt. Afterwards, she survives the final trial and escapes from Magical Miracleworld with the other survivors.
----
* {{Determinator}}: She’s rather stubborn.
%%* DoesNotLikeMen
* {{Foil}}: To Takara in the first trial. Despite their similar personalities, she takes a more reasonable and personable approach to trying to determine the killer, listening to others whereas the Chess Player lashes out at them for not following his lead. When the trial concludes, she calmly thanks others, including Takara, as opposed to his gloating.
* IntrepidReporter: As can seen with all the exposes under her belt.
* {{Jerkass}}: She can be quite insulting.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Her primary argument when arguing against attempting a Mastermind vote- that they don't have enough evidence to really narrow down the suspect list- is sound enough. Too bad she presents it in such an insulting, 'You people are all dumbasses' sort of way.
* NotHelpingYourCase: Like Takara before her, she runs into this when arguing against using their first Mastermind vote. Repeatedly insulting everyone's intelligence, shouting and being obstructive only leads to them mistakenly accusing her in the eighth trial.
* NotSoStoic: Yumiko reacts to the cruelty of the second culprit's execution by calming leaving to return to her room... only to collapse on the bed, sweating and crying, once she's alone. She also begins crying during the fifth trial, after it becomes clear that Kei is the culprit.
* OfficialCouple: With Kei. Unfortunately, the latter is outed as a murderer and executed before it can get too far along.
* PhotographicMemory: Can absorb information she's only heard once and retain that knowledge for months on end.
* SelfFulfillingProphecy: Her predictions about their first Mastermind Vote being wasted come true, perhaps partly due to her own obstructive and obstinate actions.

!!The Mastermind
The traitor responsible for everyone's suffering, Khadija Halabi. Was running the DA, or Dante Aevum Project, which was originally intended to control the evil and corrupt.
----
* ArrangedMarriage: Fled from Turkey after her father attempted to marry her off to somebody else.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Tied up hanging from a gate, surrounded by Monobears in party hats, who then proceed to beat her with batons shaped like confections as though they're at a party (or a revolution, given the title of the execution, Viva La Doubt). This doesn't kill the Mastermind, though; she's covered in bruises and bleeding but still alive at this point. Then one last Monobear appears with a giant knife to cut the celebratory cake, but he cuts the Mastermind in half instead and ''that'' finally kills her, although we see a doll being cut in half rather than the actual body.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Her execution ends with her being cut in half.
* HeelFaceBrainwashing: The original intention of the Dante Aevum Project, as Khadija understood it, was to alter the minds of the corrupt, selfish and evil so that they couldn't hurt anyone else. Suffice to say that isn't how they were used. At all.
* TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness: Initially supported their project; however, Monobear warned that they were considering withdrawing their support. After Chapter 8's motive was delivered, they made good on their threat, much to the Mastermind's ire.
%%* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Makes a full costume change after being exposed as the Mastermind.
* WalkingSpoiler: As the Mastermind of ''Doubt Academy 2: Black'', of course they're gonna be this, as their identity and their motives are a well-kept secret and pertinent to the plot of the game respectively.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Wanted to find a way to ensure that nobody could abuse their power over others.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: In Chapter 8, their mysterious backers cut all ties, and their final words through Monobear imply they expect the Mastermind won't be making it out of Magical Miracleworld alive.
