Quite a fair amount of the cast is different from the original story so this is devoted to reminding us how they were and explaining how they are different.

----

!The New Digidestined

!!Takeru "TK" Takaishi

One of the eight Digidestined from Anime/DigimonAdventure, TK's no longer the kid he used to be. He now lives in a changing world and must deal with growing into adulthood while fighting the darkness from his past, all the while serving as the leader to a new group of Digidestined
----
* AscendedExtra: T.K. basically feels that this applies to him when the original six choose him to be the leader of the new group, as while Davis has the more obviously powerful Digimon they all trust T.K. to make the right choices.
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: While demonstrably close to Kari, TK never really grows as close to the new Digidestined as he does with the originals, who at best could be considered "work friends". He is at times paired up with Davis for a multitude of different reasons, but is blatantly unaware of the new gogglehead's animosity towards him due to his own infatuation with Kari.

!!Hikari "Kari" Yagami

One of the eight Digidestined from Anime/DigimonAdventure, Kari is still as sweet as she was back when she was eight. That sweetness though hides a steely determination and she's not afraid to fight to defend her friends. However, her mysterious powers tied to her Crest of Light may yet prove to be more dangerous than helpful, when a force more sinister than anything seen before claws its way out of the darkness in search of her.
----
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: Although she does consider the new kids her friends, Kari never gets as close to them as she manages to become with TK, often struggling to find any kind of common ground with them.
* TookALevelInBadass: Kari .
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Kari is at times noted to be driven soley by her self-interests and whatever measures she finds defensive, while at the same time seems totally unaware of it.

!!Daisuke "Davis" Motomiya

A passionate classmate of TK and Kari's, Davis can be a little foul-mouthed, brash and arrogant at times, but he's as solid a friend as they come. Energetic and confrontational, he's not going to just sit back while his friends risk their necks, for better or worse.
----
* BashBrothers: Usually with Yolei in social situations, less so in combat.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: Davis is deeply infatuated with Kari, but the story's framing device using an older and married TK and Kari immediately points out that his efforts to grab her attention never amount to anything.
* HotBlooded: Absolutely burning with youthful energy and desperate for an output for it. Unfortunately, Davis usually doesn't have the brains or muscle to back it up, often requiring someone else's help to make good use of it.
* TheLancer: Davis initially saw himself as TheLeader, but he's more qualified as this as Veemon has the most powerful Digivolutions of the new team.
* Malaproper: Davis is prone to frequent malapropisms, often to the exasperation of those around him. Despite actually being aware of this, he clearly isn't bothered by it.
* SirSwearsaLot: At least a third of Davis' dialogue consists of swears, despite only being 13.
* UnknownRival: Davis considers TK to be his rival, out of both his self-chosen title as Tai's successor and his pursuit of Kari's affection. (Though absolutely more the latter.) TK however doesn't realize either of these, and is frequently puzzled as to why Davis is often so agitated around him.

!!Miyako "Yolei" Inoue

Izzy's protégé in computers, she's more a gamer than a programmer. Despite her flaky personality and poor hygeine, she's eager to help the others defend the Digital World, but years of hiding her frustrations in video games have left her ill-prepared for what adventures the Digital World may bring.
----
* AllWomenAreLustful: Tries to be secretive about it, but Yolei is very bad at hiding how desperate she is for physical affection.
* BlackSheep: Yolei's issues with her siblings, an otherwise last-second plot device, is instead a recurring issue starting early in the story. The youngest of four children, Yolei is the outlier of her family, never quite managing to fit in with the rest of them, in addition to often ending up on the short end of the stick in most family-related situations. The digital world only manages to put deeper strain on this fragile setup, causing a great deal of friction between her and her parents, who, unaware of her secret life, only see their daughter acting irresponsibly.
* BlindWithoutEm: Yolei needs her glasses to see clearly, although the fic varies regarding just how serious it is; after she breaks her glasses in Chapter 31, Chapter 32 sees her have trouble distinguish her friends.
* GreenEyedMonster: Yolei tends to react like this whenever anyone else tries to get close to Ken before Christmas.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Growing up in a family of four children and often left holding the short-stick as the youngest, Yolei has a tendency to put herself before others given even the smallest opportunity.
* UncleanlinessIsNextToUngodliness: Is noted to have poor personal hygeine, often described as "smelly" by others and rarely washes either herself or her clothes. This is largely due to her laser-focus on only her personal otaku-level interests. While she's later forced out of these bad habits over the course of the story, she now and then falls back into them.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: After .

!!Iori "Cody" Hida

The most mature of the three new kids, Cody takes a lot of things with a grain of salt and tries to err on the side of caution. That said, he is also set in his beliefs and is determined to always do the right thing, though his unmovable black and white view of the world can often work against himself and the other Digidestined.
----
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Cody TRIES to act well and far beyond his age, which often ends up making it hard for others to relate to him. Coming from a Kendo-practicing family, he is very much entrenched in the idea of traditional Japanese honor despite the day and time.
* BlackAndWhiteInsanity: Throughout the fic, Cody continually refuses to believe that Ken has changed after his time as the Digimon Emperor even after the rest of the Digidestined accept that he's changed.
* FreudianExcuse: Cody's father was a police officer who was murdered by a criminal everyone assumed had reformed. Because of this, Cody became convinced that people can't change who they are, and this is why he refuses to accept Ken's HeelFaceTurn .

!!Ken Ichijouji

A child prodigy who somehow found his way into the Digital World, and has made it his life ambition to enslave its monster populace. Cold, calculating and out for blood, there are deeper secrets to his arrival in the Digital World than even he is aware of, which will ultimately threaten his rule and turn his life upside down.
----
* CelibateHero: Ken prefers to atone for his actions and investigate on the Dark World and the other villans than to actively seek for romance. He sees Yolei as just another annoying fangirl whose name he doesn't even know.
* DeathByAdaptation: Unlike in canon, Ken dies when Oikawa kills him by triggering a side-effect of the Dark Spore in him.
* ItsAllAboutMe: The Digimon Emperor initially disbelieves the others’ claims to be Digidestined as he believes that the Digital world can only be accessed by special people, and he found it because he is the only ‘truly perfect human being’.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: As in canon, Ken’s older brother Sam died, and unfortunately, as of Chapter 49, Oikawa murders Ken, meaning that his parents have lost both of their children to death.

!The Original Digidestined

* DramaPreservingHandicap: While the original Digidestined had 'internalised' the power of their Crests by the time of the final battle with Apocalymon, their reals in the real world have caused that power to weaken, restricting their partners to Champion forms save for particularly dire situations (such as ), necessitating their later quest to restore the Crests.

!!Taichi "Tai" Yagami

The de facto leader of the original Digidestined , Tai finds himself placing his faith in the newer group of Digidestined, regardless of how much he'd rather handle things himself. His years since the first adventure have mellowed his hotheaded personality, though he remains as oblivious to everything in front of him as ever. Even on the sidelines, the new forces at work will cause Tai to face new challenges in both the Digital World, and the real world.

----

!!Yamato "Matt" Ishida

Tai's best friend and the loner of the original Digidestined, Matt is outspokenly uncomfortable with the new Digidestined, causing him to feel as though he's been replaced. Trying to build a musical career, he struggles to find footing as a Blues musician in a world of Rock n' Roll, especially when his biggest fan is his worst nightmare. Despite his discomfort and disaproval, Matt can still be depended on when needed, though you can bet he'll be scowling the whole way.
----
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Although not as aloof as he was in the original series, Matt is much less open to trusting the new Digidestined, and comes off as constantly agitated due to feelings of being replaced by new children, who did not have to brave the wilderness of the Digital World to earn their roles. This is further compounded by his stalled musical career, dealing with Jun's constant advances, and Gabumon's capture by the Digimon Emperor.
* SourSupporter: Out of all the first generation Digidestined, Matt is the one who most vocally hates the new generation, believing that the kids are nothing more than weak newbies that are attempting to fight against the Digimon Emperor, a job the original children should handle. When Yolei shows hesitance whether or not at helping the Digital World, he immediately denounce her as a useless Digidestined, even convincing her to just throw away the Digivice and give up on being one.

!!Koushiro "Izzy" Izumi

The brains of the original Digidestined, Izzy is by far the most involved with the new children, acting as a guide and general backup when possible. Though unable to enter the Digital World without aid, he spends most of his time buried in his computer, keeping an active eye on the strange developments in the Digital Frontier since his last visit. While he has become far more personable since first entering the Digital World years ago, this new adversary threatens to tear his entire world asunder, in more ways than he could possibly imagine.
----
* CripplingOverspecialization: It's not exactly 'crippling', but Izzy notes that his own computer expertise is better suited to pure research, to the extent that he acknowledges that Yolei is a better hacker than he is.
* YouKilledMyFather: .

!!Sora Takenouchi
The heart of the original Digidestined, Sora finds herself at odds with the sudden re-emergence of the Digital World in her life. Though she wants to believe the new children are capable of handling themselves, she struggles to hide her doubts as to wether or not they can pull it off. Additionally, her tomboyish personality is beginning to conflict with her femininity, often leaving her confused and unsure of what to do. She puts it upon herself to act as a guide to Yolei in both life and Digital World matters, although she'll end up facing more personal demons than she bargained for in doing so.

----

!!Mimi Tachikawa

The passion of the original Digidestined, Mimi has made a strong effort to distance herself from her old friends in the time since their original adventure. What had initially been a humbling journey of self-discovery has since soured into a debilitating case of PTSD, causing her to do whatever it takes to avoid returning to the Digital World. Despite her coldness, she is still outwardly concerned about her old Digimon partner, Palmon, so there may yet be some trace of the old Mimi left.
----
* AesopAmnesia: Mimi's true reason for abandoning her duties as a Digidestined is that she doesn't want to suffer anymore losses and could not stand all the violence and death that she experienced in the Digital World. This is despite the fact throughout the original adventure, she realizes that she makes a vow to fight on just so that no more deaths can be made.
* TookALevelInJerkass: For most of the fic, Mimi is trying to avoid any involvement in the conflict in the Digital World.

!!Joe Kido

The medic and rational mind of the original Digidestined, Joe finds himself frequently unable to rejoin his friends due to spending most of his time in college. When he can afford the time to join the others, he frequently finds himself acting as a mentor to the young Cody, trying his best to guide his new young teammate along. He is also trying his best to convince Mimi to rejoin them in their efforts to free the Digital World, a task that only seems to grow more and more difficult with each attempt.

----

!The Digimon

!!The original Digimon partners

The emergence of the Digimon Emperor has lead to a large scale enslavement of the Digital World's inhabitants, including the Digimon partners of the original Digidestined; the happy go-lucky Agumon, the shy Gabumon, the whimsical Tentomon, the motherly Biyomon, the cheery Palmon and the easygoing Gomamon. Without their human partners to assist them, the Digimon have since become slaves to the Emperor, forced by the power of his Dark Rings to act as his personal Generals. The first challenge of the new Digidestined will be to free the Digimon partners of their predecessors, which will certainly be easier said than done.
----
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: For most of the Digimon Emperor arc, Agumon, Gabumon, Biyomon, Tentomon, Palmon and Gomamon are forced to act as the Emperor's Generals in their Champion and Ultimate forms, with a key story arc focused on the new kids trying to free their predecessors' partners.
* MoralityPet: Palmon is this for Mimi in particular; regardless of Mimi's desire to stay out of the fighting, she still considers Palmon a true friend, and puts aside her concerns so that she can catch up with her old partner.

!!Patamon

T.K's Digimon partner. As he was able to escape the Digimon Emperor's enslavement, Patamon has since rejoined his long lost partner. Due to his inability to become Angemon thanks to the Emperor's Control Spires, Patamon has since adopted the Armor Digivolution of Pegasusmon after discovering the mysterious Digi-Egg of Hope. While this has largely robbed Patamon of his original power, he is nonetheless happy to be back by T.K.'s side, eager to help retake his world from this mysterious new Emperor.
----
* GodzillaThreshold: As [=MagnaAngemon=], he clearly considers the Gate of Destiny this, as anything sucked into the Gate effectively ceases to exist.

!!Gatomon

Kari's Digimon partner and former servant of Myotismon. Gatomon barely managed to escape the Emperor's enslavement, though it ended up costing her her tail ring and a large portion of her power. Unable to become Angewomon even after rejoining with Kari, Gatomon is able to adapt the form of Nefertimon using the mysterious Digi-Egg of Light. By far the most mature of the Digimon partners, Gatomon finds herself in a strange, constantly changing new Digital World, and is determined to make sure Kari remains safe from something even worse lurking in the shadows.

----

!!Veemon

Davis' Digimon partner. This mysterious, supposedely mythical dragon Digimon appeared in the nick of time to save its newest hero. Perpetually happy and stuck with a prominent lisp, Veemon is eager to help his new friend retake the Digital World from the Digimon Emperor, but finds himself ill-prepared for yet utterly fascinated by the human world, especially its cuisine. Veemon also develops a close relationship with Davis' sister, much to his partner's annoyance.
----
* CoolPlane: As Imperialdramon, serves as an airplane to transport the other Digidestined to their crest location all over the world. If only the Air force would treat it as an UnusuallyUninterestingSight and not attack it the moment he enters their territory.

!!Hawkmon

Yolei's Digimon partner. Hawkmon finds himself the odd man out, being a male digimon with a female partner, let alone one as strange as Yolei. The humble bird Digimon often finds himself deeply confused by his partner's antics, and often tries to act as her conscience and voice or reason, usually to failure. Despite the friction between the two, Hawkmon is a loyal Digimon dedicated to helping his partner whenever possible, no matter how questionable it may seem.

----

!!Armadillomon

Cody's Digimon partner. This voracious armadillo digimon speaks with a southern-drawl, and acts as the more relaxed contrast to his disciplined partner. Though he tends to think with his stomach more than his head, Armadillomon is a true friend, and does his best to help Cody cope with a world he doesn't understand.

----

!!Wormmon

Ken's Digimon Partner. This insectoid Digimon has long since found himself acting as the Digimon Emperor's servant rather than his partner. Though he finds himself unable to dedicate himself to Ken's cause, he will nonetheless fight tooth and nail to defend his partner when threatened. Perpetually abused and sheepish, Wormmon constantly attempts to persuade Ken to return to his old kind self, though his efforts have done nothing but infuriate the Digimon Emperor.
----
* KilledOffForReal: Unlike in canon, Wormmon isn't reconfigured in Primary Village, but remains dead after he sacrifices himself to help stop Chimeramon.

!Supporting characters

!!Jun Motomiya

Davis' older sister and Matt's "biggest fan". Impulsive, headstrong and just as loud as her younger brother, once she has set her mind to something, Jun is not easily swayed from her path. Generally dismissive of Davis' weirdness, she has nonetheless latched onto his new "doll", unaware it is in fact a living creature. Her infatuation with Matt also causes her to constantly show up in the Digidestined's lives, for better or worse. Although the Digidestined fear her snooping ways will eventually lead her to the truth of their adventures and thus put her in danger, they may be surprised to learn their concern should be for those who end up on her bad side.
----
* AscendedExtra: Jun is featured more prominently than in the original show. Despite still not part of the main cast (and no less crazy or impulsive), she has more involvement in the story and becomes involved with Digidestined affairs more than once including . Her feelings towards Matt .
