The pregen character archetypes and a number of [=NPCs=] for ''TabletopGame/ChuubosMarvelousWishGrantingEngine''. The names that are listed are the two main ones, one male and one female; usually a half-dozen other variants are listed in the books, and permission to monkey around with the rest of the characters' traits is explicitly granted. For the sake of convenience, writeups will use the character's default gender and status.

[[folder:Fortitude]]
!!The Wishing Boy/Girl (Chuubo/Shokyou)

A gentle, laid-back kid who, despite living in Horizon, is generally considered to be a Fortitude character. Built the Wish-Granting Engine, and occasionally turns into a giant snake.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: As of his new design for the release of ''The Glass-Maker's Dragon,'' Chuubo is depicted with dark tan skin and wavy, dark hair.
* AmnesiacGod: [[spoiler:It's quite likely that Chuubo is an [[TabletopGame/{{Nobilis}} Aaron's Serpent]], or a river dragon or something equally strange and powerful. In any case it's likely that for one reason or another he decided to become an ordinary boy. His story-line in the ''Glass-Maker's Dragon'' campaign is partially centered around exploring his connection to this identity]].
* BadassAdorable: Unassuming, geeky, and capable of turning into a giant monster and rolling over your house, or wishing you clean out of existence.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Is generally kind of hapless and goofy, yet can also wreak absolute havoc.
* ClippedWingAngel: Invoked by his ability to [[ScaledUp turn into a giant snake]], which is called "It Probably Wouldn't Help" and which has ''actual rules'' saying it cannot help you.
* EmotionControl: Able to make his surroundings more peaceful (or, as 'Dark Chuubo', more energetic). Taken to its logical conclusion by his "Peace-Splosion" Miracle, which has the potential to calm entire warring armies to a standstill.
* FacePalm: Provoking these gets him bonus XP.
* TheGhost: His family never seems to be around when anyone else is.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Or to stay normal, at least. Well, by Town standards of normal, which don't preclude things like making a Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: One of his early wishes was for a best friend.
* ImagineSpotting: One of his starting abilities is letting people do this to him.
* LetsGetDangerous: Take tie. Put around head like a bandanna. ''Rock out.''
* MrImagination: Basically. Chuubo can be seen as what happens when you take a MrImagination and actually give him the power to make his imagination come true. The Engine's power and his ability to leak out his daydreams onto reality could be seen as expressions of his childishness, or of his peculiar beliefs about reality.
* NiceGuy: He has "Kindness" as one of his abilities. Suggested scenes for him include helping the people he runs into around Town.
* NighInvulnerability: Most anything that would harm him just... doesn't affect him that much.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Supernaturally ordinary, in fact.
* RealityWarper: With the help of the Wish-Granting Engine.
* {{Retconjuration}}: The Engine's power can induce this, as exemplified by Seizhi.
* ScaledUp: He can transform into a giant snake, but he's pretty sure it wouldn't help.
* ShapeshifterModeLock: Reverting back into human form after becoming a giant snake is significantly tougher than the inverse, and without sufficient MP, he may be forced to wait several chapters until he has enough to use the "It's Not Forever" Miracle.
* WeirdnessCensor: His [[PerceptionFilter "Ordinary" Affliction]] doesn't just force people to think of him as normal and overlook his supernatural abilities, it actively shifts the goalposts of normal in Town to include whatever Chuubo happens to be doing. The reason Chuubo doesn't get bullied much in School is because his geeky hobbies surrounding comics, games, and trading cards fall under its jurisdiction.

!!The Best Friend (Seizhi/Suzy Schwan)

Created when Chuubo wished for a friend. Nice kid, adapts to any situation, but always seems stressed and worried.
----
* AlliterativeName: ''S''eizhi/''S''uzy Schwan.
* ArtificialHuman: Complete with family and memories, to boot.
* BecomeARealBoy: This is essentially Seizhi's whole complex. In a bit of a twist, it's not so much that he ''isn't'' real - he is! It's just that Seizhi himself is afraid he might not be, or that one day he'll stop being that way, so he wants to validate his existence. Appropriately, Seizhi starts off the game on a Become Somebody Arc - of which he already has three levels.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: In comparison to Chuubo, his best friend, he's fairly grounded and reasonable.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: Feels having a purpose, a destiny, one aside from being Chuubo's best friend, would make him real.
* {{Expy}}: Pretty blatantly a mix of ComicBook/JimmyOlsen (being the best friend to perhaps the most powerful good person in the setting, and having weird powers that allow him to adapt himself to many situations) and Ahiru from ''Anime/PrincessTutu'' (being associated with ''Literature/TheUglyDuckling'' and having existential issues). Visually he also resembles both, being an orange-haired, freckled cute kid with an IdiotHair.
* {{Goth}}: Suzy.
* HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:Subverted. It is quite likely that he used to be an Actual of core ''TabletopGame/{{Nobilis}}''. However, the wish that made him Chuubo's best friend made him real and self-aware, something no other Actual could ever be, and thus something completely unprecedented and unique]].
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Well, normal for Town, anyway - he's fine with having powers, it's just he'd like to have a normal, predictable family (big brother is an AmbiguouslyGay masked adventurer/wrestler, mom and dad are PerkyGoth morticians, and mom may or may not walk through walls), and really, really doesn't want to be found out as being "unreal".
%%* {{Moe}}:[[invoked]] Even gets XP for it.
* NervousWreck: His playbook is characterized by meandering, stream-of-consciousness-style bouts of worry regarding other people's perception of him. Things he's afraid of include people finding out he's not real, zombies, vampires, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking the sound horse hooves make on cobblestones.]]
* RedHeadedHero: Depicted with vibrant red hair, and his Knight Arc poises him to take the role of a hero. Though [[LampshadeHanging he's not entirely sure how he inherited his red hair from his mother when his father is of]] [[HollywoodGenetics Chinese descent.]]
* TaremeEyes: Has them.
* TomatoInTheMirror: Didn't realize that he was wish-created until he first got a good look at the Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Terrified of people finding out he's not exactly real for fear of what they'd do to a fake person.

!!Nightmares' Angel/The Rival (Leonardo/Dulcinea de Montreal)

Tremble, fools, before the awe-inspiring intellect of Leonardo de Montreal, master of Nightmare Technology! Soon, all the world will know his name and prostrate themselves before him in awe! If you but knew a '''fraction''' of the secrets-

Ahem. You get the idea. Anyway, Nightmares' Angel is a teenage mad scientist out to demonstrate his genius to the fools around him by saving this rotten, wretched world, utilizing the power of his Nightmare Technology. Normally lives in Old Molder.

Has a bit of history with Chuubo.
----
* AntiHero: Cynical, misanthropic jerkass, but still on the side of right, at least technically.
* CameBackWrong: He ''started out'' awkward and wounded... then he went to the Bleak Academy, which is kind of a death metaphor sometimes, and came back binding a Blasphemy.
* TheComicallySerious: More light-hearted games will typically involve him being the victim of many, many goofy Chuubo and/or Rinley shenanigans. Combine this with a dignified and snarky demeanour, at least some of the time (i.e. when not ranting), and you have a perfect recipe for this.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Very much so. From growing up in an orphanage to going off to the Bleak Academy, his life has been a constant string of terrible events.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Really sinister, cage for a Blasphemy, but still tries to do the right thing.
* {{Determinator}}: He has "Perseverance" as an ability.
* DisabilityImmunity: This is pretty much how his Wounded Angel powers work in general, but to give a specific example, he tore out his own heart and became immune to chest wounds and blood loss.
--> ''[...]Later Billy Sovereign stabbed you right through your chest with a railway spike. He thought that it would impress everyone around you with his power. He thought that it would burst your heart and induce systemic shock and that you'd de-cardiac yourself to death. But you showed him! Your heart wasn't even'' in ''your chest.''
* DudeWheresMyRespect: He created a new sun, but for one reason or the other, no one ever showed him any gratitude or acknowledgment for it. [[note]]This is likely either because no one would ever believe him, or because of someone's intentional interference. It's all up in the air.[[/note]]
* FallenAngel: [[spoiler:Quite possibly his true identity. Hints towards this include being able to sprout wings as mentioned below and overall his being on a Wounded Angel Arc, which fits the overall thematic of Fallen Angels or Mimics in TabletopGame/{{Nobilis}}]].
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: Even without taking into account his resistance to injuries, he can heal from just about anything in the dark.
* HeartTrauma: He tore out his heart to power the sun, which had a number of different effects. He uses sunlight to replace a normal biology, so he can only have emotions or be hurt in sunlight - in darkness he can perform heartless acts perfectly, survive blood loss and chest wounds, and ignore emotional attacks. In case he actually ''does'' get hurt, he can still recover from anything, even death, as long as he's away from sunlight.
* HidingBehindYourBangs: Most art depicts him as having his right eye covered by his bangs, as the emo version of the trope. However, it also reflects the deceptive variety, showing that he's hiding his true nature. [[spoiler:It might also represent the second variety of a veil, since Leonardo is a supernaturally powerful and knowledgeable FallenAngel]].
* IneffectualLoner: To the point that some of his ''abilities'' stem from his rejection of friendship. [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration The only way his player can utilize his high initial relationship value with Chuubo is by vocally dismissing the thought that they could ever be friends.]]
* InsufferableGenius: Absolutely gob-smacking ego... and the skill and talent to back it up. He wholeheartedly believes he's better than anyone else. He dislikes this because to him this means that he has to be stuck with peasants and fools all the time, with no equals. This belief is so great ''that he bound it as a wound'' and he derives miraculous abilities from it.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He will never, ''ever'' admit this.
** [[LiteralMetaphor More literally]], using his heart in a sun-sustaining device counts, as well.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: He is usually depicted as wearing the classic MadScientist subtrope labcoat.
* LargeHam: His XP condition is causing speechlessness.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: One of the abilities he can use as a consequence of rejecting friendship is being able to wipe events from the memory of, not people, but rather the world itself. While convenient, this affects even himself.
-->''[[LampshadeHanging The problem with being able to remove memories from the world is that you can never be too sure just what kind of memories of yourself you might have already removed]].''
* LiteralMetaphor: He tore out his heart in the sense that he rejected friendship. He also tore out his heart in the sense that he physically removed the organ normally used to pump blood.
* MadScientist: Oh so much. Megalomaniacal, lacks an innate sense of right and wrong, creates disturbing, twisted inventions that blur the conceptual and physical...
* ManchurianAgent: There's a very high chance that [[spoiler:Leonardo's a [[TabletopGame/{{Nobilis}} Mimic]], and not really himself anymore]]. Just how terrible this is depends on how he's depicted in-game.
* MeaningfulName: A ShoutOut to Creator/LeonardoDaVinci.
* TheMirrorShowsYourTrueSelf: Some art pieces show his reflection to be the opposite of what it should be - showing his heart's scar on his left side instead of the right, and his bangs covering his right eye instead of the left. [[spoiler:This is presumably an indicator that he's a Mimic, a reflection of who he actually is]].
* NighInvulnerability: Has survived both removing his own heart and getting stabbed through the chest with a railway spike.
* NoSell: Can only be harmed in the light, after using his heart in a sun sustainment device.
* OddFriendship: Has a mutual connection with Jasper Irinka. It probably has something to do with him restarting the sun.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: Inverted - one of the Wounds Leonardo uses to bind his powers is tied to the power of ''rejecting friendship'' - still wanting it, still needing it, but unable to admit to it or act on it.
* ProfessorGuineaPig: See "used his own heart in a sun-sustaining device".
* RealityWarper: Unconsciously. His dreams were turned to worms and rot as a consequence of binding a blasphemy, spill out into reality if he's not careful, and an entire Nightmare World came to be from them.
* TheRival: To Chuubo. In fact, his epithet depends on whether he's focusing on his rivalry with Chuubo - if he is, he's the Rival, if he isn't, he's Nightmares' Angel.
* ShadowArchetype: To Chuubo. Whereas Chuubo just wants to be normal, Leonardo is defined by wanting to be special; while Chuubo's wish-granting engine is powered by the wishing power of the heart and operates by adding new things to the world, Leonardo's Incomparable Nightmare Engine is powered by the secrets of the Bleak Academy and operates by denying aspects of the world (such as "this invention can't possibly work.") And while Chuubo is defined by wanting friends, a big part of what defines Leonardo's character is his rejection of friendship. Or, more properly, Chuubo is ''his'' shadow archetype, since part of Leonardo's character is denying the way Chuubo reflects him.
* SquishyWizard: Comprehensively averted as Leonardo/Dulcinea d'Avignon, the sorcerous version. Due to the nature of the Wounded Angel arc, should the player unbind all Wound-tied powers and do Quests to heal them, Leonardo/Dulcinea will actually be able to endure more pain than any other character, with the possible exception of the Immortal ones.
* SuperDrowningSkills: Equipped with an initial -1 Skill in Swimming.
* SurroundedByIdiots: His general attitude towards everyone around him. See also InsufferableGenius, above.
* SympathyForTheDevil: One of his abilities is Love For the Wicked.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He does ''not'' have any sort of connection with Chuubo, certainly not two points' worth. The character sheet ''lies.'' Can slip over into {{Tsundere}} depending on whether the player wants to [[{{Shipping}} ship]] him with Chuubo or not.
* WeakenedByTheLight: Uses sunlight to replicate some of the functions of his lost heart. Only in sunlight is he vulnerable to death, or to making mistakes, or to showing emotions.
* YouFool: Has a tendency to appear when people do terrible things or mistakes. It's not just a character thing, it's a passive ability he has.

!!The Prodigy (Natalia Koutolika/Antony Yuryevich)

A teenage girl from Russia, trained to be at least theoretically perfect in all fields of human endeavour. The training was... unpleasant.
----
* TheAce: Her primary powerset. As a general rule, she's about on par with someone like ComicBook/{{Batman}}.
* ActionGirl: If actual combat needs to be done, which is rare but not unheard of in Pastoral games,
* BadassBookworm: Her two best skills, above and beyond everything else she can do, are Martial Arts and Mathematics.
* BadassNormal: Well, as normal as GMD characters get. She's not an angel, a demigod, a reborn figure of myth, a good HumanoidAbomination, or anything of the sort; she's just a teenage girl with trauma and near-superhuman skills. Averted with Natalie Coutourier, though, because that version is a vampire.
* BrokenAce: By most interpretations. The details are different from game to game, but her past is not pleasant. At all.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Aside from the training that made her what she is, she can also develop temporary supernatural abilities.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Set up to be fleshed-out in play.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Thanks to coming to Town.
* GoodWithNumbers: Even better at math than she is at everything else.
* MasterOfAll: Of all humanly normal things - Magic and Superior Skills don't count.
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: ... And frozen, as well.
* RussianGuySuffersMost: Very much so.
* TheStoic: Rarely shows emotion, but still badly needs a hug.
* TeachHimAnger: A variation. Her first Quest is to actually find her anger, which has escaped from her chest in the form of a golden snake, and get it back.
* TrainingFromHell: Survived mainly on ''ice chips'', according to one of the XP Reward examples.

!!The Dream-Witch (Miramie/Reynard Mesmer)

Once, there was a Magister of the Bleak Academy, a prodigy of despair and hatred called Melanie Malakh, who came to Town in order to destroy it - but she broke in the attempt, her ghostly remnant wandering until she could reassemble herself.

Except the girl who was reassembled wasn't exactly the girl who broke, having lost so much of herself in the breaking.

Now, she's Miramie Mesmer, a stressed and harried girl trying to make a new life for herself, trying to help make the world a little better... and maybe get back her memories of who she used to be.
----
* AlliterativeName: Both as Miramie and Melanie.
* AmnesiacDissonance: She kind of knows what she was like before, but while she doesn't approve of that kind of behaviour, still hungers for the lost memories.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: A very nice person, with the capacity for absolute destruction/banishment of ''anything'', including intangible things.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Tremendous destructive power and a dark, generally gothic design, but no more evil than any of the others and probably nicer than Leonardo.
* DreamWalker: She can see the dreams of anyone she cares about, if they're asleep. With considerable effort, she can travel ''into'' the dream of someone she's connected to.
* DreamWeaver: A lucid dreamer.
* ElegantGothicLolita: The art on her profile page in GMD shows this off as a style she wears, including a fancy hat. Her male counterpart's outfit is just as frilly.
* FunctionalMagic: She has the magical skill Changeling, allowing her to pass herself off as human.
* {{Hikikomori}}: She has shades of this about her, having spent almost all her time until recently in a hidden room in the archives, and retreating there whenever she's pressed.
* HumanoidAbomination: Strategist Excrucian, to be precise.
* LossOfIdentity: Melanie emptied her memories, her motivations, and her power into a glass dragon, that it might destroy Town. Miramie is what was left of her after it shattered.
* MeaningfulName: A ShoutOut to Franz Mesmer, discoverer of mesmerism.
* NervousWreck: In a relatively subdued way. Miramie spends a lot of her life stressed out and worrying about something, usually money - even though she lives in [[{{Arcadia}} Fortitude]], a place where it's both impossible to be so rich that people won't judge you, and where a teenage girl is ''not'' going to be left to starve in a gutter.
* OmnicidalManiac: Her former life.
* PerpetualPoverty: Not that the good people of Fortitude would let her starve in the streets or anything, but money is still a major source of stress for her.
* PowerOfTheVoid: She can make almost anything cease to exist by declaring it unworthy of existence.
* QuestForIdentity: She's seeking out the fragments of who she used to be, trying to at least know something of her old self. She's not quite sure she wants to ''return'' to being Melanie, though.
* TheWoobie: Invoked as her XP condition.

!!The Troublemaker (Rinley Yatskaya)

Youngest daughter of the Yatskaya shrine family, and a reality-straining trickster.
----
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Part of her general character, and also a reason why she has Groan XP.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Typically, she's at least one year younger than the rest of the main cast. She is also the youngest among her siblings.
* DreamWeaver: She can dream lucidly.
* FreakyFridayFlip: One of Rinley's powers; by switching people's wishing hearts, she can switch their personalities.
* GenderBlenderName: Most other main characters have some variations on their names for their gender-flipped versions, but Rinley's always Rinley, regardless of gender.
* TheHeart: WordOfGod suggests that she's probably going to be the group's "social glue". Begins with a free Level 1 Connection to every other player character at the beginning of the game, no matter how grumpy their disposition.[[invoked]]
* {{Miko}}: At her family shrine.
* MissingMom: Shiori Yatskaya was allegedly carried off by a giant bird when Rinley was two years old.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: The original Rinley Yatskaya was a trickster figure in Town folktales. Rinley's parents apparently thought it would be awesome to tempt fate.
* PluckyGirl: Practically a representation of this, since she has control over 'the wishing power of the heart'; being plucky is enough to pull off outrageous stunts for her.
* PungeonMaster: Rinley's specific XP Emotion involves getting an exasperated groan out of the other players. Which can lead to examples such as:
--> ''You: “OK, I’m cracking some eggs and making omelettes.”''\
''Other Player, Messing with You, in Narrator Voice: “And that is when Rinley Yatskaya realized she’d forgotten to pack the insides of the eggs. She’d only brought the shells!”''\
''You, bonking yourself on the side of your head: “Rinley! Can’t you take a yolk?”''
--> ''Other Player: “... I don’t know you.”''
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Can communicate with cats and comparatively intelligent sea life (such as seals).
* TheStoryteller: Rinley is on both ends of this trope. She likes to hear and tell stories, and as a Creature of Fable, she can even do absurd things offscreen (like sailing on a thimble, or finding small amounts of money in unlikely places) under the justification that it may be just a tall tale told about her. Rather appropriate, considering that Creature of Fable is a Storyteller Arc.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: [[PunctuatedForEmphasis Fish! Sea Monsters! Crabs!]] Sometimes dumplings.
* TheTrickster: Her whole deal, really.
* WindsOfDestinyChange: Can manipulate what's possible for herself and others.

!!The Angel of Fortitude (Entropy II/Attaris II)

Successor to his father, Lord Entropy, whom he probably murdered. ''Usually'' the current principal of School.
----
* BadassBiker: Otherworldly, numinous, strange, and rides around on a motorbike doing good.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: One of the options for Lord Entropy II is to have her be secretly female. It's up to the HG to decide if her gender is well hidden or an OpenSecret.
* BigGood: Can be this, depending on how he's played.
* BloodMagic: His blood can serve as a poison, an acid, a mutagen or a catalyst, depending on what he wishes.
* DramaticSpotlight: Has a knack for being in the best possible place for a spotlight, be it natural or artificial.
* FakeMemories: The official version of what happened to his father is what he actually remembers. He suspects memory alteration.
* FisherKing: Has claimed the streets of Fortitude and the building of School, among others, as his own.
* {{GMPC}}: He's a [[TheMentor mysterious mentor figure who is older]] than the other main characters, [[{{Teleportation}} can appear in scenes more for dramatic reasons rather than causal ones]] and is [[NighInvulnerability really really hard to kill]]. He's essentially a GMPC made into an actual PC.
* IAmNotMyFather: He really, really isn't.
* IHaveManyNames: His full official title is Entropy II, Magister, King of the Evil World and the Principal of Horizon’s School, by the Grace of Heaven and the Light.
* LighterAndSofter: Compared to the original Entropy. He's less about the desecration, destruction, and scorn, and more about the idea that there's a kernel of worth in even the most wicked things.
* TheManBehindTheMonsters: As King of the Evil World, he has authority over all the monsters who dwell therein.
* MarkOfTheSupernatural: His hands drip blood.
* MissingMom: The original Attaris isn't dead, but she, along with the Seal of Time she guarded, is nowhere to be found.
%%* MysticalWhiteHair
* TheNavigator: Excellent sense of place.
* NighInvulnerability: Little can harm the King of Evil.
* NightmareFetishist: Can't help but find something likable about the various monsters he rules.
* NobleDemon: The King of Evil, ruler of an evil world full of monsters, is a pretty decent guy.
* TheNoseless: Wears a false one sometimes.
* {{Patricide}}: Probably slew his own father and [[KlingonPromotion took his spot]], although it's unclear how evil this was, considering that the previous Entropy was quite possibly the most evil thing in the world.
* {{Teleportation}}: Can transport himself to anyone he's connected to, and then return where he was.

!!The Child of the Sun (Jasper/Raven Irinka)

Heir of the murdered sun goddess, and unknowingly, the new sun. Fell to Town and hasn't quite figured out how to get back into the sky yet.
----
%%* AmbiguouslyBrown
* AnthropomorphicPersonification: She ''is'' the new sun, though she hasn't quite realized that at the outset.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Tends to be confused by the lower world, and is prone to spacing out.
-->You’re a bit of a space cadet sometimes. It comes of being from the sky. Forget "this strange human emotion called love," half the time you’re confused by "this strange human apparatus called coinage" or "this strange human activity called sneezing."
* EmotionControl: Hope (or, if she's having a HeroicBSOD, resignation/disillusionment).
* ExtremeOmnivore: She can potentially digest anything... if she can find a way to actually ''eat'' it first.
* FamilyThemeNaming: AlliterativeFamily & RockThemeNaming. Jasper's mother's name was Jade.
* FishOutOfWater: Not ''quite'' used to life on the ground yet.
* HopeBringer: Although in a much more gentle way than the usual. She can radiate a field of hope, and her Basic Quest is about trying to inject hope and light into the world.
-->''You're the light of hope now. You've got to do your mother's job. That means shining on the darkness in people's lives - not necessarily to fix them, but to give that darkness a bit of the endless light and warmth that you have inside you.''
* LovecraftianSuperpower: Can grow new limbs, accessories or details with weird powers when talking to people about their hopes or when in times of desperate measures she needs them.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: ''Limb to Create Hope'' and ''Limb to Devour Evil'' are explicitly this, allowing her to gain whatever ability she needs to deal with her current situation.
* NighInvulnerability: As part of the divine package.
* OddFriendship: Has a mutual connection with Leonardo de Montreal.
* OneWingedAngel: Can turn into a monstrous congerie of spheres of light and nuclear fire. It doesn't help all that much.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her mother's death was the foundational event of the present-day setting. She's not seen her father since her mother died.
* TaremeEyes
* TomboyishName: Interestingly, not intended to indicate any masculinity on her part. Her GenderFlip, meanwhile, has a rather girlish name. The LemonyNarrator suggests that her mother was perhaps not so very good at gender-appropriate naming.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Can "hold" others' dreams, gaining extra physical features and powers. Can also manifest new limbs to create hope or devour evil. Believes she could transform into something very much like a sun-themed EldritchAbomination.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Horizon]]
!!The Ideologue (Jasmine/Jasper Apocynum)

A spunky young Deceiver currently at School, who used to be an ordinary girl until she got hit on the head by a dodgeball and achieved enlightenment. She saw the truth of things for a moment, and then it went away. Her mission is to help everyone else see the truth as well; fortunately, her new powers are a big help in this regard.

She is the protagonist and narrator of the ''Fable of the Swan'' novel.
----
* AntiVillain: In ''Fable of the Swan'' she lampshades the fact that she's not exactly a good person, since she's trying to destroy the world, and has rejected an existence at being made actually magically good, but notes that she might qualify as 'good-like', given that she's in the middle of a self-sacrifice situation, of the kind good people tend to do.
* BeYourself: Early in ''Fable of the Swan'' she states that this is the general philosophy her friend Kseniya holds. As she quickly notes, however, being like herself is not her greatest strength, in [[VoluntaryShapeshifting more than]] [[PowerCopying one sense]].
* BeatStillMyHeart: When she finds someone in a bad emotional or circumstantial situation, she can rip out their heart and turn them into a monster that's sort of under her control. This is eminently sensible, logical, and sane.
* CatchPhrase:
** "Salute! ''Apocynum!''"
** Also describing things as "logical, sensible, and sane", no matter how much of a mismatch it is. Partly justified, because describing things as "logical, sensible, and sane" is one of the properties of her [=pState=].
* EarlyBirdCameo: First appeared in ''Antithesis 1i: A Diary of Deceivers'' for ''TabletopGame/{{Nobilis}}''.
* EnlightenmentSuperpowers
* FirstPersonPeripheralNarrator: She claims on the description of ''Fable of the Swan'' that the story's really more about her friends, and that she's the boring one. This can be attributed to her being an UnreliableNarrator.
* GlamourFailure: Her star-filled eyes often give her away when shapeshifted.
* HumanoidAbomination: ''Excrucian''.
* LargeHam: Right down to getting Fist-Pump/Salute XP.
* NarratingThePresent: Throughout ''Fable of the Swan'', Jasmine occasionally talks of how she's in the middle of turning herself into a giant brass cephalopod to fight the Headmaster. By the end, [[spoiler:it's revealed that this is because speaking the entire novel as it was making itself in real-time was necessary to apply its power, in a rather meta way.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Took her current name after her enlightenment. Her original name, whatever it was, has been forgotten, even by her.
* ParentalAbandonment: Well... more like they disappeared from existence when she achieved enlightenment.
* PowerCopying: Takes 24 hours, and she has to know the person very well. If someone figures out who she's copying, they can make her grant their wishes.
* TheStoryteller: Jasmine is quite the storyteller, to the point that it forms the basis of her Pseudo-estate, "the Story of Jasmine Apocynum", allowing her to make things more or less like her story.
* UnreliableNarrator: Her particular style of narration tends to be quirky, and she tells events out of order frequently. At a few points she also narrates things that could-have-been, and in some places it's not entirely clear whether they happened and then stopped existing or whether they were delusions of some kind. Once or twice she reluctantly admits she'd been keeping some things secret, as well.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Into almost anything.

!!The Idol (Soun Shounen/Shoujo)

A swan person who is incredibly glamorous and incredibly egotistical.
----
* AwesomeEgo[[invoked]]: To the point of getting XP when people shake fists at him and write up elaborate plans to have him murdered.
* {{Delinquents}}: Is apparently making himself the leader of School's delinquent population.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Up to and including punching out ambassadors because, and we quote, he "thought the party was for [him]."

!!The Wish-Granting Engine (Lilimund Cartaign/Laodemus Schwan)

The incarnate spirit of the Engine, who moonlights as a heroic adventurer.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: Laodemus, as Seizhi's big brother, doesn't wear a shirt and spends a lot of time engaging in wrestling practice with another dude.
-->''You assume this all means that he's gay, an underground tournament luchador, or both, but he just teases you and refuses to answer when you ask.''
* AnthropomorphicPersonification
* AwesomeAnachronisticApparel: Lilimund dresses {{steampunk}}-style.
* BuryYourGays: Discussed in the Glass-Maker's Dragon campaign - the book notes that there's a good chance that Laodemus could die during Seizhi's last Arc since he's a likely candidate for the role of a [[SacrificialLion Walker In Darkness/Sacrificial Bull]]. The book then goes on to suggest that since the trope is problematic and he's going to be a PC in other campaigns, it might be a good idea if someone else could take the role instead.
* GeniusBruiser: As Laodemus, who is a wrestler and an engineer simultaneously.
* LivingADoubleLife: On the one hand, she keeps the machinery of the steampunk dimension inside the Engine working. On the other, she's a secret adventuress out in the world. She tries to keep her double life from getting out because the ensuing conversations would be very awkward. Goes so far as to be a ''triple'' life in the case of Laodemus, who is holding down duties as a masked adventurer luchador ''and'' a wish-granting engine ''and'' Seizhi's big brother all at once.
* MaskedLuchador: Laodemus.
* ScienceHero: Described as such in the core.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: As Laodemus.

!! The Ogre-Sensei (Zoë/Hugh Rosewood)

A teacher at School who is passionate about poetry, literature, math, ogre rights [[BreadEggsMilkSquick and cannibalism]] (we think - students just tend to disappear in her class, although the survivors ''do'' tend to learn a lot).
----
* CarnivoreConfusion: Prone to discussing this, as she grapples with the idea that humans are people and therefore shouldn't be eaten, when she's a member of a species created to kill and eat humans.
* CoolTeacher: Very good at her job, if one ignores the occasional vanishing student.
* ImAHumanitarian: Maybe.
* TheNoseKnows: A mythic sense of smell, able to pick up where you've been for the last few days from a quarter-mile away.
* OurOgresAreHungrier: Ogres were made by the original Entropy out of rocks, dead trees, and the sensation of being torn apart and treated as meat.
* SuperStrength: Normally has the strength and toughness of a bear, but being an ogre, her strength increases in proportion to her opposition. This means that she's usually stronger than even '''[[CharlesAtlasSuperpower Natalia]]'''.

!!The Practical Teacher (Mrs Senko/Mr Senko Jr.)

A teacher at School who disapproves of imagination and childishness. Daughter of the Headmaster of the Bleak Academy.
----
%%* EvilTeacher
%%* HumanoidAbomination
%%* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: Her favourite subject.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Old Molder]]
!!The Magical Detective (Edony Marguerite/Luther)

An amnesiac orphan and occult investigator who really, ''really'' needs a hug.
----
%%* DamselInDistress: Gets bonus XP for being one.
* {{Determinator}}: Has gone through hell several times, lives in horrifying poverty, and ''keeps going''.
* KidDetective: An occult investigator, and typically about 9-10 years old.
* LittleBitBeastly: Luther is a [[OurWerebeastsAreDifferent werebear]] boy, complete with bear ears. We don't know if he can shapeshift.
* OurElvesAreDifferent: Edony is the only known elf in Town.
* PerpetualPoverty: And Old Molder isn't as nice as Fortitude.
* ThrowTheDogABone: The spirit of the Engine helps her out now and then, such as by serving as a parental stand-in so the Detective can occasionally attend School.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Outside]]
!!The Headmaster of the Bleak Academy

Master of the AcademyOfEvil...

... yet not actually that much of a bad guy, all things considered.

Father to the Child of the Sun and the Practical Teacher. We'll let that sink in.
----
* AffablyEvil: Gets along very well with the author, apparently. Not surprising, given how he's obviously an Excrucian, and being AffablyEvil is kind of their ''thing.''
* TheCorrupter: The Bleak Academy is meant to impress the [[OmnicidalManiac Excrucian philosophy]] on its students, to the point where [[WasOnceAMan many become Excrucians]]. Even taking the ''entrance exam'' is a Corrupting action.
* EvilCounterpart: Apart from one rank in Creature of Fable, his Miraculous Arcs are mainly focused on Creature of the Light and Keeper of Gardens. Those are the same Arcs as Entropy II, the Angel of Fortitude.
* TheGrimReaper: An aspect of such, anyway.
* HumanoidAbomination: He's an Excrucian, it comes with the job.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Has been alternately known as [[IHaveManyNames death, or Death, or Death Unending, the first of the Riders, or the Lord of Death's Dominion]].
* StarCrossedLovers: He may have truly loved Jade Irinka. She may have truly loved him. It's all very open-ended.
* VillainsOutShopping: The first kickstarter material to feature him had him ''doing his laundry'' in Fortitude.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Halloween Special]]
The Halloween Special takes place in its own continuity, with its own versions of the [=PCs=], who have some notable differences from their counterparts.

!!The Headmaster/Headmistress (Entropy II/Attaris II)

Headmaster of a boarding school in Soma Village who loathes basically everything about his life, and secretly kind of likes that he does. The only things he cares about are making sure the kids make it to adulthood okay, managing to get through the week somehow, and Halloween.

In truth, his life's not real.

He's actually the former Halloween King, trapped in a fabricated life by his treacherous ''jarls'', with no memory of who he used to be...

...at least up until now.
----
* AmnesiacGod: He's forgotten who and what he used to be.
* TheBlank: Attaris has no eyes or nose, and wears a blindfold to cover this.
* TheCorrupter: He's... not a good influence.
* FacePalm: His bonus XP condition, which he gets when it's apparent he's comically unsuitable to be a headmaster, or when his weird actions/abilities have unintended consequences.
* LivingShadow: Attaris' shadow moves on its own, and has a hundred shadow arms, each holding a shadow sword.
* TheManBehindTheMonsters: As the once-Halloween King, he has some power over the monsters who dwell in the mirror-world.
* MarkOfTheSupernatural: Entropy has bleeding hands.
* MysticalWhiteHair
* TheNavigator: Has an uncanny sense for the layout of a place.

!!The Ideologue (Jasmine/Jareth Apocynum)

Jasmine used to be a shy, studious girl before she went a little off the rails and her parents sent her to Entropy's school to get her settled down.

Unfortunately, she ended up realising the world was really a prison and performed a ritual that's now about to cause the apocalypse.

Oops.
----
* BeatStillMyHeart: Can use this for various types of magic.
* {{Bookworm}}: Used to be one.
* ByronicHero: Jareth is basically an expy of a young Byron.
* LargeHam: Her bonus XP condition is rendering people speechless.
* MarkOfTheSupernatural: Starry eyes.
* MikeNelsonDestroyerOfWorlds: Honestly, she thought the end of the world was going to be a good thing.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Her character arc.
* NighInvulnerability: After the ritual, neither Jasmine or anyone she touches will die.
* ShoutOut: Jareth's name comes from ''Film/{{Labyrinth}}''.
* ShrinkingViolet: Used to be before going off the rails.
* TheStoryteller: Her best skill.
* {{Technobabble}}: She can use it to get through obstacles and conflicts. If it gets her into trouble, she can gain Will.

!!The Idol (Soun Shounen/Shoujo)

The school's idol, its most popular and most notorious student, its delinquent hero... who'd much rather just be having a rest somewhere, to be honest.
----
* CanineCompanion: White River, his dog.
* CoolBigSis: For both Soun siblings. Whichever one is the PC is the cool older sibling to the other.
* {{Delinquents}}: The main one at the school, the one all the others turn to for help.
* TheEmpath: Has a natural Empathy skill. On top of that, he can also read other people's hopes and dreams.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: He'd much rather be resting and having fun than having to deal with everything life throws at him.
* LargeHam: Not in the sense that it's his XP condition, but in the sense he has a persistent arc encouraging him to play up being a heroic bishonen for XP.

!!The Exchange Student (Edony Marguerite/Chuubo)

A girl from the mirror-world on the other side of the mirror who showed up in Soma when she was six. When her adoptive parents died, she couldn't figure out what to do, and let herself be shipped off to school, where she runs a small detective agency.

Just recently, however, she met Chuubo, the boy from this world she originally got switched with who now lives in the mirror-world, and learned the monsters from that world were about to come through.

Now she's got to figure out what she's going to do.
----
* AnimalMotifs: As an ex-snake, Chuubo retains various serpentine abilities.
* BecomingTheMask: Chuubo ''likes'' being human. He doesn't want to go back to being a giant snake.
* FunctionalMagic: Night-Craft (essentially the creation of things out of nightmare, shadow, soil, blood, saliva, etc.) and Changeling (integrating yourself into the world).
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Has a stuffed rabbit.
* KidDetective: She's 12 years old, and although she doesn't have a Detective skill, she does have an On the Case Bond to represent when she's acting as a detective.
* TheManInTheMirrorTalksBack: Edony's able to talk to Chuubo through mirrors.
* OurElvesAreDifferent: It's left open to player definition what sort of elf Edony is.
* TheWoobie[[invoked]]: Her XP condition.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Christmas content]]
Characters from the Christmas content freely available on a [[http://jennamoran.tumblr.com/post/135859385643/christmas-cheer series of posts]] on Jenna's blog.

!!The Watchful Girl

The queen of the wooden people of Nix. She convinced the titan of Nix to stop time in the city so her people could be saved. She maintains herself in a half-dreaming state to monitor the flow of Christmas and anti-Christmas energies in Nix.
----
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: It is noted that despite not being much of a fighter, if necessary she can be pretty threatening by acting as support for her wooden soldiers, or her powers can be reworked so that she could turn into [[OneWingedAngel a giant marionette]].
* ModestRoyalty: She only wears a muddy white gown and a simple crown.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Honestly wishes the best for her people, and won't fight the [=PCs=] unless it's really necessary.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She was pretty active in protecting her people once she realized they would all die if Christmas came.

!!Lexiarchos Caducine

A Rider pretending to be a wooden person, and secretly the true mastermind of the whole conflict of Nix. Her goal is to destroy Christmas via a [[DeathByIrony flower rite]].
----
%%* BigBad: Of the Christmas content.
* CrazyPrepared: In ''{{TabletopGame/Nobilis}}'', Lexiarchos is described as the sort of Strategist that justifies the name. Here, she even has the Affliction: "Lexiarchos Caducine must have planned for this."
-->"'''[Typical special moves include]'''[...] Maneuvering someone into position in an oddly familiar way and then [[ExaggeratedTrope revealing that she’d sabotaged the training of whomever taught their teacher’s teacher to fight in order to leave an opening right then]]. [[RefugeInAudacity Then drawing her sword and stabbing someone in the same motion.]]"
* HumanoidAbomination: Excrucian Strategist.
* ManipulativeBitch: Manipulated an entire city over a ''long'' period of time to set up this scenario.
* NoImmortalInertia: She's cursed to grow older and older until she turns into an old woman and possibly turns to dust, until she can recover inside her sanctuary.
* PutThemAllOutOfMyMisery: She's quite literally dying of time, so she wants to ''end it''. Christmas is only one step further towards that goal, because it derives its power from its passage.
* RapidAging: Her version of the World-Breaker's Hand is the ability to destroy things by making it so their time is up, stripping the years from them until they grow old and die or turn to dust.
