->1st Year* [[note]]Was held back for 'failure to meet requirements'.[[/note]]\
Rank: F\
Device: Intetsu\
Nickname: The Worst One (Failure Knight), Another One (Crownless Sword King)

"The Failure Knight" aka "Worst One" - Ikki Kurogane is famous in Hagun Academy - for being the only F-Ranked Blazer in attendance. Thanks to his unwavering desire to prove himself as a capable Blazer -- not only for himself but to his family and the world -- he has trained himself tirelessly in order to fulfill a promise he has with the new director Kurono Shinguji - win the Seven Star Sword King Tournament and she'll allow him to graduate. After beating Stella Vermillion, Shizuya Kirihara, and Toka Todo in their duels, Ikki becomes a well-respected Blazer throughout Hagun as the "Uncrowned Sword King" aka "Another One".
----
* AccidentalPervert: Downplayed. He has a tendency to act without concern for proper manners around women, but he usually recognizes he was acting untoward in hindsight and apologizes. This is even how he initially comes off to Stella, apologizing for accidentally walking in on her (even though they were going to share the same room, unknown to both of them at the time).
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: He is viewed as an outsider by his own family with the exception of Shizuku. He's also infamously called "The Worst One" at Hagun Academy and considered an academic pariah due to his F-Rank status. At first. He gains the academy's respect after defeating Shizuya Kirihara.
* AlmightyJanitor: Repeatedly pointed out by Stella, who can't believe that he's an F-rank with his skill level.
* ArmorPiercingResponse: When Stella prepares to attack him in Volume 1, Ikki tells her that he's never seen anyone so beautiful. This causes Stella to get flustered and immediately drop her guard.
* ArrowCatch: When he finally gets to calm himself down again, this is what he does against Kirihara's arrows. It's enough to make the guy piss his pants.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: This is the basis of Ikki's Blade Steal and later his [[spoiler:Perfect Vision]] It's shown during the battle with Stella in Volume/Episode 1 when Ikki copies Stella's sword style after seeing her use it for just a few minutes.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Even though he dies in a pretty gruesome way in volume 15, he revives courtesy of Shizuku.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: While Ikki usually keeps his cool regardless when faced with complete {{Jerkass}}es, he's notably more agitated when Yui Tatara tries to trick Shizuku into eating razor-laced food.
* BigBrotherWorship: [[spoiler: Played straight in his childhood as Ikki reveals to Ouma that in their youth, he admired the latter's capability to carry the wishes of the entirety of the Kurogane clan in Volume 6. Now downplayed in the current time as while Ikki still looks up to Ouma, the former is nevertheless neutral on his admiration towards his older brother.]]
* BoringButPractical: In the story's setting where there are people who could manipulate the [[ElementalPowers elements]], [[SemanticSuperpower concepts]], and [[StoryBreakerPower causality]]; ''Ittou Shura'' and the upgraded ''Ittou Rasetsu'' are the only Noble Arts that falls under the category of ''[[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway Body Enhancement]]''. This sounds underwhelming on paper, as any Blazer can use it as a basic technique. However, it has its own category for a reason.
* BornInTheWrongCentury: A variation. In a different life and universe, Ikki would've been TheAce for his immense talent and skill in pure swordsmanship, especially with his meager Magic Capacity. But in a world where there're other people who possess other incredible powers and in a power-based, cultural hierarchy enforced by The League of Mage-Knight Nations, he's perceived as nothing more than TheLoad ''at worst'', and ''at best'', a FailureHero who can only get by with sword techniques, TrainingFromHell, and a Noble Art that's not very reliable.
* BornUnlucky: His luck stat is F and his childhood has been nothing but hardship after hardship. [[WordOfGod Riku Misora]] actually lampshades his utterly terrible luck in Vol 4, including but not limited to [[spoiler:getting paired against Yudai Moroboshi, the previous Seven Stars champion. Worse yet, his next two matchups against Byakuya and Sara are less favorable than Yudai in comparison. As Misora puts it, it's like the heavens themselves are trying to kill him. And as demonstrated by his awakening as a Desperado, the heavens have largely failed]]. [[spoiler:However, even his terrible luck persists after his awakening, with him dying at the hands of Or-Gaule, leaving him with a 10-year-old body after being [[BackFromTheDead resurrected]] thanks to Shizuku and unable to protect Stella after she gets kidnapped by Carl Islands by the end of Volume 18.]]
* ButtMonkey: He's looked down upon by numerous characters, including Stella and the students at Hagun Academy, for being an F-Rank Blazer. By the end of volume 1, he gets [[ThrowTheDogABone a lot of bones]] after gaining the respect of the student body and becoming Stella's boyfriend.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Ikki's physical stat is A, and it makes up for his lacking of magical capacity. His training regime lets him shrug off wounds that would incapacitate any normal teenager, including being shot with several dozen arrows that all visibly draw blood. Any scene that reveals his anatomy shows him to be utterly ripped. Stella in particular ends up EatingTheEyeCandy in Volume/Episode 1 where she examines his body after a fight, showing that Ikki has very strong muscles.
* CloseRangeCombatant: This sums up the entirety of Ikki's fighting style due to his low magic capacity. This gets somewhat [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructed]] when going up against opponents whose Blazer abilities can render pure melee style ineffective against them.
* CombatPragmatist: Ikki doesn't do things like set up traps or sabotage his opponents beforehand. Instead, he mainly relies on his incredible swordsmanship, [[PowerCopy stealing his opponent's techniques]], [[FlawExploitation exploiting flaws in their fighting style]], and only used Itto Shura for an OneHitKill.
* CosmicPlaything: He's got good reason to believe he is this after Amane's reveal, and how Amane ''wishes'' him to keep struggling until he breaks. Misora once remarked that it was like the heavens were trying to kill him. [[spoiler:If that wasn't enough, he's still this despite his awakening as a Desperado with him actually ''dying'' by Or-Gaule's hands and later failing to protect Stella when she gets kidnapped by Carl Islands at the end of Volume 18 due to his weaker 10-year-old body.]]
* CripplingOverspecialization: Combined with LogicalWeakness. He can beat a lot of knights with his pure melee style, but most of the {{Arc Villain}}s will have abilities that put pure melee at a disadvantage (like invisibility), forcing him to rely on his wits.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler: Volume 15 has him practically butchered at the hands of Or-Gaule, who then adds insult to injury by stamping on his remains. [[BackFromTheDead He gets better]]]].
* CurbStompBattle:
** During his mock duel with Stella, he predicts her every move and defeats her without Stella being able to land a single hit.
** Five of his classmates led by Manabe insulted and assaulted Ikki. And yet, Ikki beat all five of them. The kicker? He didn't harm a single one of them.
** He's on the receiving end from Kirihara until he figures out how to predict his each and every move, allowing him to turn the curb stomp around.
** Subverted in his battle with Toka. While this is probably his fastest victory, it's not nearly as one-sided as it looks. When they both swing their swords, Ikki notices that his normal Ittou Shura is going to lose to her Raikiri and he has to use Ittou Rasetsu at the last moment to win.
** Like with Toka, his battle against Byakuya Jougasaki is a subversion. [[spoiler:He knows Jougasaki will be able to predict all his moves and ring him out, so he once again has no choice but to use Ittou Rasetsu to avoid losing.]]
** He wins the first round against Amane without taking damage other than a temporarily stopped heart and without using Ittou Shura.
* CutlassBetweenTheTeeth: A novel illustration in volume 7 has him doing this against Sara.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: At the age of five, he's ignored by his own family other than Shizuku. Then he ran away from home and lived by himself throughout his childhood. The only reason why he hasn't committed suicide was because he was encouraged by his great-grandfather.
* {{Determinator}}: Everything he does is with this attitude. If Ittou Shura/Rasetsu wasn't enough, he manages to stay conscious and fight despite his device getting broken, which would cause most Blazers to faint because their device is made from their soul. [[spoiler: It's even the key to his awakening as a [[PersonOfMassDestruction Desperado]].]]
* DirtyCoward: A {{subverted|trope}} example occurs in volume 5, where [[spoiler:Ouma accuses him of this trope by saying that Ikki's fighting style is only a deception to con his way towards victory. However, given Ouma's ''own'' ideals of strength, he's the only one who believes this]].
* DoesNotLikeSpam: He does not like sweet foods. When Stella, Alice, and Shizuku go out for ice cream, Ikki sits it out.
* DualWielding: While this isn't his main style, he can fight with a second blade if he gets his hands on one, as shown when he takes one of Amane's Azure swords and uses it against him.
* EnemyWithin: In Volume 3, he's berated by a voice that represents his doubts about choosing a painful life as an F-rank Blazer.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: At the beginning of the series, he enters his room and takes off his clothes. Then, when he duels with Stella in Kurono's office, he tells Stella that she's beautiful to disarm her. This shows that he's a bit awkward at first, but has a very analytical mind that lets him figure out someone's weakness quickly.
* TheExile: Ikki goes into exile after being considered a "failure knight" by his family.
* ExplosiveOverclocking: His ''Ittou Shura''. While in this mode, he is able to push his body to its maximum potential. The drawback is that it's extremely taxing on his body after he drops the technique. As such, Ikki can only use it once a day. He can also concentrate more power into a single second if he needs to, but doing so puts him in a coma for a week. [[spoiler:This ceases to be a problem once Ikki awakens as a Desperado.]]
* FightsLikeANormal: His only magical ability is a short boost to his already impressive physical prowess that he can only use once a day. Everything else is all him.
* {{Fingore}}: While never shown in the anime or manga, Volume 3 reveals that once when he challenged a Dojo in middle school, all the children curb-stomped him at once, and then the student who was the club president proceeded to ''snap all his fingers'' as the other children held him down.
* FirstKiss: Shizuku immediately kisses him when she reunites with Ikki, and he and [[ClingyJealousGirl Stella]] aren't happy about that.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: Ikki feels that he and Amane had met at some time long before the Sword Festival. The circumstances of that meeting and why Ikki hates him to the core aren't elaborated for a while. When they are, the first meeting between the two was [[spoiler:when they met at the Knight Academy, very recently in-universe. It turns out that Ikki is wrong, and the two really hadn't met before, making this a subversion of the trope. Ikki is frightened of Amane because [[PsychopathicManChild Amane]] is exactly what Ikki himself would've become had he not been such a {{Determinator}} to do things the right way]].
* FountainOfYouth: [[spoiler:Shizuku didn't have enough somatic cells and a sufficient supply of mana when reviving Ikki, which resulted in her being unable to fully restore Ikki's body when she was forced to link her body with his. Shizuku was able to bring Ikki back, but as he was when he was ten years old. She later explains that she'll be able to return him to his proper age in six months.]]
* FragileSpeedster: Combined with GlassCannon. When he uses Ittou Shura, he can SpeedBlitz most opponents and hit hard enough to damage A-Rank knights, but he notes that he still can't match them in direct power or defense. [[spoiler:After learning Edelweiss's muscle technique, he manages to SpeedBlitz Yudai without using Ittou Shura.]]
* FriendlyRival: He and Stella are in love with each other, but neither intends on holding back in the Seven Stars Sword Art Festival. In the final match of the festival, Ikki ends up [[spoiler:awakening as a Desperado because he doesn't want Stella to find a new rival]].
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: At the start of the series, almost every character has initially expressed their dismay about his status as an F-Rank Blazer and consider him "The Worst One," with the sole exceptions being Kurono Shinguji and Yuri Oreki. Stella gets over it pretty quick as well, but that's after he beats her in a sparring match. However, after he starts consistently winning matches, he gets the nickname "Another One" instead, and people start respecting him more.
* FromBadToWorse: Combined with DramaPreservingHandicap. There at are least three instances where Ikki ends up in less than perfect condition before a match with an already overwhelming opponent.
** The Ethics Committee outright poisons him and then arranges for Toka Todo to be his opponent, who he already had little confidence in beating regardless if he's in tip-top condition.
** Before his match with Yudai Moroboshi, the previous champion who beat Toka, Ikki discovers Edelweiss's last technique somehow dealt him enough mental trauma to inhibit his movements.
** In the Seven Swords Festival, he has to fight both his second and third opponents consecutively on the same day, which means he can only use Ittou Shura or Ittou Rasetsu during one of the two rounds. [[spoiler:He chooses to use Ittou Rasetsu on Byakuya because he knows the latter will checkmate him otherwise, which means he has to fight [[ArtInitiatesLife Sara Bloodlily]] while being extremely weakened. The only upside to this situation is that Sara is far more fragile than most A-rank Blazers, so Ittou Shura isn't required to deal a finishing blow to her.]]
* FromZeroToHero: Went from being "The Worst One" to a powerful swordsman and popular Blazer with the title "Another One."
* HeroicBSOD:
** He goes through a major one when Kirihara bests him in his CurbStompBattle until Stella snaps him out of it.
** He has yet another one when his family has the Ethics Committee discredit Ikki before his match with Toka.
* HeroicSecondWind: He gets reinvigorated after Stella's AnguishedDeclarationOfLove to the point that he easily defeats Kirihara.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: At the start of the series, many students don't hide the fact that Ikki's "The Worst One" until he defeats Kirihara. Even then, Ikki's family and the Ethics Committee start a smear campaign to paint him as a delinquent, though this instance is downplayed because he already earned the trust of most of the student body by then.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: In one instance, his Blade Steal almost [[spoiler:manages to screw him over in the Seven Stars Sword Art Festival]]. Ikki manages to [[spoiler:copy Edelweiss's technique for making one's body move from 0 to top speed instantly]]. Unfortunately, his body couldn't fully understand the complexities of the technique at first, causing him to [[spoiler:freeze up whenever he unconsciously tries to use it]]. Luckily, he figures it out in time to [[spoiler:turn around his match with Yudai]].
* HopelessWithTech: Surprisingly, he's not very good at using technology, despite the insight and intelligence that he displays throughout the series.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Ikki is taller as opposed to his younger sister Shizuku.
* IrrationalHatred: Subverted with his discomfort towards his "fan," Amane. He quickly realizes that despite the latter's apparent admiration, there's something off about him, which is proven correct when Amane turns out to be callous in using his powers and wants Ikki to suffer. Upon hearing about Amane's past, Ikki realizes that the reason he hates Amane is that they share similar pasts. But Amane would rather bring everyone else down than build himself up.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: His primary weapon, "Intetsu".
* LudicrousMeleeAccuracy: In Volume 1, he barely scratches Kirihara's nose with Intetsu, to the point where his opponent didn't bleed. However, Ikki actually intended not to hit him at all and sees this as a sign that he needs more training to become more accurate.
* MadeOfIron: Combined with his [[TheDeterminator determination]], Ikki was able to move despite being impaled with ''dozens'' of arrows by Kirihara, survive several weeks of being slowly poisoned and sleep-deprived by the Ethnic Committee, [[spoiler: and ''even'' stayed conscious from having his Device broken in his fight against Yudai.]]
* MasterSwordsman: He is thought of as the best swordsman in school. This is especially important since his skill and wits are the only things he has to keep up with his classmates and opponents.
* MeaningfulEcho: His great grandfather, Ryoma, told him that his frustration is proof that he hasn't given up yet. [[spoiler:Ikki later repeats these words to Amane when the latter tries to kill him one last time in frustration.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Ikki" (一輝) means "one gleam" and while he's limited by his F-Rank magic capacity, he nevertheless can shine brightly than others.
* MentorArchetype: Once his classmates recognize his abilities, they ask him to train them.
* MrFanservice: Like his girlfriend, he's often subjected to fanservice moments. Of note is when [[AwesomeByAnalysis Byakuya Jougasaki]] feels up Ikki's chest and gives a detailed explanation about how Ikki's build is ideal for swordsmanship.
* MuggleBornOfMages: {{Downplayed|trope}}. While Ikki is not a {{Muggle}}, his magic capacity is so low that he's barely considered a Blazer, which led to him being ostracized by the Kurogane Clan.
* ObliviousToLove: Double subverted. Ikki confesses his own attraction to Stella by the end of Volume 1/Episode 4. Before that, Stella confessed that she liked Ikki's way of life earlier during his match against Kirihara, which acted as a RousingSpeech for Ikki. However, even after the two become an OfficialCouple, he can't get seem to get the hint that Stella wants to take things with him further than just a few dates.
* OfficialCouple: With Stella. They start dating at the end of the first volume. And by the third volume, they're engaged.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome:
** In a one-on-one duel, Ikki defeated his new director, Kurono Shinguji. [[spoiler:She's the former #3 ranked Blazer in the world - 'World Clock'.]]
** Many of his offscreen selection matches were won without Ittou Shura.
* OnceKilledAManWithANoodleImplement: Someone about to shoot him with a revolver? Why not just jam it with an eraser?
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: He doesn't like the idea of Stella finding a worthier rival than him [[spoiler:causing his transformation into a Desperado.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: Not "abandoned" per se, but being flat out ''ignored'' by your own family while still inside the house simply for being ranked an 'F' in terms of Blazer ability is pretty bad. And then, if that wasn't enough, they reach out and pressure the school that Ikki decided to attend to ''not'' let him graduate at all purely out of spite.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: "With my weakest, I will defeat your strongest."
* RagingStiffie: Ikki and Stella once wound up alone in a shed, with the latter getting a cold for the first time in her life and too weary to remove her rain-soaked clothes. Ikki gets her consent to strip her down to just her panties, determined to keep his thoughts pure the whole time, but Stella ends up noticing a huge bulge down there. Ikki hastily explains that it's out of his control, but Stella is actually happy that she's turning him on.
* RealMenHateSugar: A justified example. While Ikki does state that he doesn't like anything sweet, there's also the additional factor that he must keep his body in good shape in order to hold his own against stronger Blazers; and eating anything unhealthy would cause imbalance.
* RedOniBlueOni: The calm and rational thinker to Stella's HotBlooded.
* ScrewDestiny: [[spoiler:As a [[PersonOfMassDestruction Desperado]], Ikki embodies this.]]
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: When he was a child, he left his family behind after he realized how much they viewed him as an outsider.
* SingleStrokeBattle: He has one in episode 12 against Toka Todo, and he wins.
* SkilledButNaive: For all of his skill, determination, and eternal optimism, he's rather lacking in common sense at times. From the get-go, his first instinct upon walking in on a barely clothed girl is to take off his shirt too to make it even rather than apologizing and running as a normal person would. [[https://youtu.be/ceznobHFAwM?t=8 Observe]]. It's also justified, however, considering how he was coldly treated by his family.
* SocialServicesDoesNotExist: The Kurogane Clan's treatment of him would be absolutely criminal in any civilized country, even in RealLife Japan, outside the story's world setting.
* SorryThatImDying: In volume 15, [[spoiler: he apologizes to Stella for not keeping his promise to her as he gets brutally slaughtered by Or-Gaule]].
* StepfordSmiler: Nagi notes that Ikki internalizes a lot of his stress underneath his {{Determinator}} attitude, which later impedes his performance against Kirihara.
* StrongAndSkilled: [[spoiler:After becoming a Desperado near the end of Volume 9, Ikki is capable of gaining more mana to go with his incredible sword skills to the point of being on Stella's level. However, it's also {{subverted|Trope}} as he still defaults to using his sword techniques and wits despite having the raw power to back it up along with the fact that he's only ''recently'' a Desperado compared to other Desperados having their abilities much longer than he has and are much more experienced fighters.]] [[spoiler:After being revived by Shizuku, he regressed into a ten-year-old body for six months, and instead, focuses on sharpening his skills to make up for his lost strength.]]
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:He ends up in a coma because he pushed the referee out of the path of Amane's aura, causing the aura to graze him.]]
* ThatManIsDead: Played for laughs when [[spoiler:he tells Stella that the man who managed to not be tempted by her figure is dead and to forget that he said anything about needing to meet their parents before having sex]].
* ThrowTheDogABone: After beating Stella and Kirihara in volume 1, he gains the respect of the student body to the point that he's called "Another One" and qualifies for the festival. Not only that, but he becomes Stella's boyfriend and fiancé.
* TragicDream: All he ever wanted in life was his father's approval. His father's [[IndividualityIsIllegal world philosophy]] has made certain that it'll never happen. [[spoiler:His father actively keeping him down at all costs isn't helping either.]]
* TrainingFromHell: This involves sprinting for 20 km daily, among other things.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Unsurprisingly, many of his opponents, including Stella, underestimate him because of his rank. This gets flipped around once he qualifies for the festival, where most of his new opponents are already aware that he's going to be difficult to take down, causing him to realize that by expecting them to underestimate him, he's actually underestimating them.
* TheUnfavorite: To a ridiculous extreme, since his family forced him to be a {{Hikikomori}} to hide the fact that one of them is an F-Rank Blazer.
* WeakButSkilled: His magic capacity stat is F [[note]] Which is even lower than an E-Rank Blazer who has enough to be only grazed by a gunshot [[/note]], but he's highly skilled with a sword and out-thinking his opponents.
** PlayedWith after his final battle [[spoiler:against Stella in Volume 9. After his awakening as a [[ScrewDestiny Desperado]], he's pretty much on Stella's level when compared to normal Blazers, but he's ''still'' this when compared to the other Desperados.]]
** This gets doubled down on when [[spoiler:he gets revived but in the body of his 10-year old self. He lacks half of the physical ability his normal self has and is overall weaker. So Ikki resolves himself to use this body that can't rely on power to find ways of becoming even more skilled than before so he doesn't have to rely on his lost strength.]]
* WellDoneSonGuy:
** Part of his reason to become a Blazer is so he can live up to his great-grandfather, Ryouma, who encouraged him not to give up.
** Another part of the reason he struggled so hard to become the winner of the swords festival is for his father's approval. The revelation in volume 3 where he'll never find his father's approval due to "being a cog out of place in the machine" broke him badly, and that dream died a tragic death.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Even after overcoming his first HeroicBSOD in volume 1, he still struggles with his doubts and grim past and barely avoids another one in volume 3, thanks to emotional support from his classmates.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: All of his abilities are geared towards increasing physical abilities, which all Blazers can technically have through mana emission. As mentioned in his FromBadToWorse entry, he sometimes won't have access to those abilities when facing tough opponents after already expending Ittou Shura.
* WhiteShirtOfDeath: Downplayed. While his white shirt gets bloodied during his duels with Kirihara and Toka, Ikki survives.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Downplayed when he's nearly killed by Ouma. While his mind and body are out of sync [[spoiler:due to learning Edelweiss's technique]], his opponent has yet to reveal the aces up his sleeve.
* YankTheDogsChain: The Kurogane Clan and the Ethics Committee attempt to do a smear campaign on Ikki, but it doesn't work out.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: As a child, Ikki left his family forever after enduring enough of being viewed as an outsider... except for Shizuku.
* YoureNotMyFather: Subverted. Ikki did consider cutting ties with Itsuki, but after talking with Sara he decides to remain Itsuki's son.

->1st Year\
Rank: A\
Device: Lævateinn\
Nickname: The Crimson Princess\

Born to Sirius and Astrea Vermillion as the second princess of the Vermillion Empire, Stella became an A-Rank Blazer when she was young. She comes to Japan to study in an effort to keep aiming higher and catches the eye of Ikki Kurogane. Her drive to become the best that she can be, despite already being labeled a prodigy, is second to only Ikki himself. Her element is fire.
----

* ACupAngst: Despite being very well-endowed herself, Sara's even larger chest makes her feel inadequate.
* ActionGirl: She can take on students head-on as she did with Ikki and some of her opponents during tournaments.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Her hair has a lighter shade of red in the anime. Also, her Lævateinn sword's black markings are changed to red.
* AggressiveSubmissive: Stella is a FieryRedhead (literally and figuratively), but displays submissive and even masochistic tendencies in her relationship with Ikki, such as declaring herself his "servant" and enjoying his "punishment" of biting her ear (and nearly her nipple when it ends up exposed). [[spoiler:When he finally decides to go all the way in Volume 9, she becomes timid and anxious about exposing herself, so Ikki takes the process slow and steady until she's comfortable. Stella later subverts this by taking the lead, mounting him and going through all ten condoms she provided.]]
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: She gives one in the first volume as she defends Ikki's life choices.
* AnimalBattleAura: As of volume 6, her aura takes on the form of a fire-breathing dragon.
* BadassAdorable: A stunningly beautiful red-headed MasterSwordswoman with an endearingly romantic and kind personality.
* BerserkButton: Calling Stella a genius or a prodigy is one way to make her angry. Stella believes that calling her those things will diminish the hard work she had to put in to become as strong as she is.
* BerserkerTears: [[spoiler:Sheds these and much of her humanity in volume 15, after Or-Gaule kills Ikki.]]
* TheBet:
** She makes a bet with Ikki in Episode/Volume 1 after the two are revealed to be roommates that the winner gets to decide the terms of how they live together. In addition, "the loser will obey the winner for the rest of ''his'' life! And no matter how humiliating it is, he will serve his mistress like a loyal dog!" [[TemptingFate And then she lost]]. To her credit, [[IGaveMyWord Stella doesn't try to weasel out of her word]], but Ikki insists on dropping the whole thing not long after.
** She later accepts Kirihara's bet where she would become his girlfriend if Ikki loses to him. However, she won this one.
* BigBreastPride: She flaunts her large chest in response to jabs from the petite Shizuku, though she briefly goes through DCupDistress when she thinks Ikki might not be interested in her body type after he seemed too receptive of Shizuku's advances.
* BigEater: Stella has a big appetite and can eat large meals by herself. An early sign of her getting sick is when she "only" eats two large bowls of rice instead of ''seven''. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]]; her fire magic is CastFromCalories.
* BigNo: When she sees Ikki entering her room and taking off his clothes in response.
* BigShutUp: To Kirihara and the other students who mock Ikki towards the end of volume 1.
* BitchSlap:
** In the anime's first episode, she slaps Ikki when he takes off his own clothes while she is changing.
** She slaps him again during the bath scene at the end of the second episode when Ikki finds out that her bikini top has come off.
* BoobBasedGag: In Volume 4, she claims that all the calories go to her chest, angering some of the female Sword Festival representatives.
* BrokenAce: She is one of the rare A-ranked Blazers. With 50 times the amount of mana of an average student, a skilled swordswoman, and having ridiculous brute strength. Though she's not particularly proud of it. Stella [[BerserkButton hates it when people call her a prodigy or genius]] while ignoring that she had to work harder than most to start her career as a Blazer. It's not that she minds having lot of power, but she wants to prove that there's more to her than natural talent.
* BurningWithAnger: Her fire magic emits flames when she gets very angry.
* CastFromCalories: Stella's fire magic literally burns the calories in her body, causing her to act sluggish if she doesn't eat a large meal.
* CasualKink: Stella ''asks'' Ikki to "punish her" in Volume 6 chapter 2, part 8. Fearing what would happen if he refuses, he ''tries'' to tone it down, only to realize too late that "he flipped her switch," ''and his own.''
* ClingyJealousGirl: She's never happy about Ikki getting too close to any girl besides her, ''especially'' if it's Shizuku. Even though the other girls are always the ones to initiate first contact, that doesn't stop Stella from wanting to burn the other girls alive. She even gets mad when Ikki starts teaching swordplay to other girls but not her.
* ConvectionSchmonvection: Zig-zagged. For all of her warnings, few of her opponents are burned until they actually touch the flames. This is in spite of her claims that said flames reach temperatures 3000 degrees Celsius (about the temperature of ignited rocket fuel and almost three times hotter than lava). However, as a child, she had little control over her power and was indeed burned as a result.
* CrazyPrepared: [[spoiler:She somehow manages to prepare a pack of condoms just in case Ikki decides to go in all the way with her. They manage to use up all of it in volume 9.]]
* CursedWithAwesome: Being born with innate power as a Blazer, Stella [[BerserkButton hates the fact that people attribute her wins with just her prodigy talent rather than her working hard to hone said talent]]. No one sees her as Stella Vermillion, just the 'Rank A Prodigy.' She comes to Japan to help her hone her skills even more.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Red hair and red eyes.
* CuteIndignantGirlStance: Provides the page image. She does this during Ikki's match with Kirihara in Round 1. After Ikki takes a few of [[RedBaron The Hunter]]'s blows, the spectators start to look down on him, thinking he doesn't have talent. Stella has none of it and gives them a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech for only getting by on their natural talent and not being able to appreciate the hard work Ikki put into honing his skills.
* CuttingTheGordianKnot: The first chapter of volume 6 is titled this, for her battle against three Akatsuki members, and her original opponent.
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler:She gets kidnapped by Carl Islands at the end of Volume 18.]]
* {{Determinator}}: In the past, she endured a lot of burns from trying to control her fire magic to the point where her concerned servants wanted her to give up for her own safety. After training with Nene, Stella is willing to break her arm and then melt her broken bones together in order to overcome Yui's reflector ability.
* DeusExitMachina: Most fights are one-on-one anyway but it's acknowledged that there are a number of situations that Stella could easily resolve that would ordinarily make Ikki struggle.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Stella is the second-most-important character of the series who eventually becomes Ikki's lover.
* DidntSeeThatComing: She didn't expect that Ikki, an F-Rank Knight, would have more power than she thought. He curb-stomps Stella by copying her sword techniques and finishes her off with Ittou Shura.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Combined with BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu. She ''graphically'' beat down Yui Tatara with a punch, and broke her arm in the process due to Yui's "Total Reflect."
* DoggedNiceGirl: Non-romantic example. Stella becomes pointedly more friendly to Yui Tatara after she [[spoiler: saves Sirius from Ein]] and makes attempts to get to know her better. [[spoiler:Despite Tatara's denials [[DefrostingIceQueen it works]], as by the end of Volume 15 she not only tells Stella to [[FriendlyAddressPrivileges call her Vier]], but promises to attend her wedding with Ikki.]]
* DraconicHumanoid: [[spoiler:Her fire magic is actually just part of her true ability, which is gaining the characteristics of a dragon. Her Excessive Awakening turns her into a scaled, tailed humanoid complete with horns and wings]].
* TheDreaded: Most of her opponents in the tournament forfeited.
* ElementalHairColors: She's a redhead with [[PlayingWithFire pyrokinetic powers]] that have the side-effect of allowing her to become BurningWithAnger.
* ElementalPersonalities: Stella is emotional, passionate and provided with a HairTriggerTemper, matching her [[PlayingWithFire pyrokinetic powers]], and has [[FieryRedhead red hair to match]].
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: When she's introduced, she is understandably shocked at seeing Ikki naked to the point that she fights with him in Kurono's office, only to be disarmed by Ikki's ArmorPiercingResponse.
* EtTuBrute: Played for laughs. At first, she opposes Sara's attempts to make Ikki pose for a nude painting, only to go along with her demands when the artist offers to paint their wedding portrait.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: By the time the main story begins, Stella has been a popular A-Rank Blazer for years.
* FieryRedhead: Stella is an [[HotBlooded emotional, passionate and hot-headed]] red-haired ActionGirl. She '''initially''' seems like she'd dial the trope further up by being a {{Tsundere}}, but the ''tsuntsun'' side practically vanishes after Ikki confesses to her, making her more or less 100% sweet and affectionate to him from then on.
* FierySensuality: She has fire-based powers and is ''the'' MsFanservice of the series.
* FirstKiss: With Ikki, but only on her side.
* FlashStep: She easily reproduces Nene's Trackless Step.
* FlamingSword: Her sword can emit flames from it.
* {{Foil}}: In comparison to Ikki, Stella seems to embody the traditionally powerful hero(ine). Not only does she already possess incredible magical power, she is skilled enough at swordsmanship to give Ikki pause where as Ikki is someone born with little magical power or talent that has to make use of his specialties. [[spoiler:She later gains a SuperMode to mirror Ittou Shura, but with a bigger boost and less of a stamina drain than the latter.]]
* FriendlyRival: She and Ikki hook up at the end of Volume 1, but neither intend on holding back when it comes time to fight each other in the Seven Stars Sword Art Festival.
* GirlishPigtails: She has her hair tied into twin tails, as expected from a {{Tsundere}}.
* GracefulLoser: After losing to Ikki, she accepts defeat and becomes his servant. She clearly doesn't like it, but [[IGaveMyWord she made the terms of the bet, and she'll stick to them]].
* GoodIsNotSoft: She may be good, but she is not to be messed with. For one, she's more than willing to fight with lethal intent when she and several others get kidnapped in a mall.
* HairTriggerTemper: She initially goes from calm to extremely angry easily and sometimes uses her fire magic, such as picking a fight with Ikki moments after the latter walks in on her changing.
* HarmfulHealing: [[spoiler: She "heals" her broken arm by using her flames to fuse the broken pieces of bone together.]]
* HeroesPreferSwords: She uses the broadsword Lævateinn as her weapon.
* HighPressureEmotion: Whenever Stella gets embarrassed, steam bursts out of her head and her face turns red.
* HoistByHerOwnPetard:
** When Stella and Ikki duel each other, he copies Stella's attacks and uses them against her.
** She assaults Bisho at the mall, not knowing that he was prepared to have an equipment that deals damage equal to the force received from the attack. To say it hurt her really bad is an understatement.
* HotBlooded: She is emotional, passionate and hot-headed.
* HowDareYouDieOnMe: [[spoiler: When Ikki is killed by Or-Gaule in volume 15, she cries and calls him a liar for breaking his promise to always be with her]].
* HumblePie: She's affected by her wager towards Ikki to the point that she becomes ''his'' slave.
* IGaveMyWord: Despite Ikki insisting that they're equals, Stella insists on the terms of TheBet and refers to Ikki as her master with herself as his servant, because that was the terms they agreed on. Stella is clearly embarrassed by the whole thing, but she gave her word, so she sticks to it. Stella drops this when she and Ikki both settle for being a couple instead of master/servant.
* ItsAllMyFault: For a brief moment, she believes she's responsible Ikki being detained by the Ethics Committee. Shizuku quickly snaps her out of it, [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan physically]] and [[WhatTheHellHero verbally]].
* JerkassRealization:
** After her mock duel with Ikki, Stella realizes that underestimating Ikki isn't that different from the others who put her in the same predicament before she came to Hagun.
** Played for laughs in Volume 7, where she realizes that helping Sara capture Ikki to make him a nude model isn't appropriate when he's not willing to do it, so she takes it upon herself to keep Sara from painting him while he's sleeping.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: At first, she taunts Ikki for his F-Rank Blazer status and bets against him as her slave, but becomes much nicer when she learns what Ikki truly is, ''especially'' when she hilariously becomes his slave after their mock duel and later his girlfriend. She drops the jerk part completely after volume 3.
* LightningBruiser: Ikki states that she's like a "ultra-high mobility heavy tank with infinite fuel." A good example is volume 3, Ikki has to use a technique to destroy a Rock Golem, said technique is to put all his strength in one burst. Stella can easily destroy them with a single stroke and she was sick too when she did it.
* LordCountry: Her surname is the same as the name of the land her family rules; the Vermillion Empire.
* LuminescentBlush: Her face turns bright red whenever she gets embarrassed.
* MasterSwordswoman: Her skills with Imperial Sword Arts is enough to force Ikki on the defensive for a few minutes.
* MasterOfAll: Has the potential to be this with both prodigious magic power and physical abilities.
* MeaningfulName: Stella is Latin for star, reflecting her popularity as an A-Rank Blazer. Vermillion is a shade of the color red, which is her hair color. Her ultimate technique Kathartírio Salamándra means "Purifying Salamander" in Greek.
* MsFanservice: Both the novels and anime seem to enjoy showing off Stella's naked body. In a cabin with Ikki, Stella is shown with her clothes being taken off by Ikki (consensually), with her body and excitement at the situation highlighted. At one point, once Ikki removes Stella's bra, the clasp comes undone in a floruish of light and she begins bouncing. Ikki winds up with [[RagingStiffie a boner]] despite his best efforts to stay calm, but Stella is flattered that she's arousing him so much.
* MythicalMotifs: Of the ''dragon''; powerful, fierce, headstrong, feared by almost everyone.
* NakedApron: Shown in the illustrations of "Volume 0." In said volume, Shizuku tricks her into thinking it's part of Japanese culture and that housewives must wear it when cooking.
* NakedFirstImpression: At the beginning of Volume 1, Ikki enters his room after finishing his jogging, only to discover that Stella is in her room and still in her underwear and stockings when she is putting on her school uniform.
* NeverGetsFat: Stella's fire attribute causes her body to burn calories much faster than normal, making her able to eat several times more than a regular person while still keeping her slim figure.
* NoSell: Akatsuki is shocked when [[spoiler: she gets punched out of the ring, crashes into a concrete pillar, is buried under rubble, and on the count of 8, punches her way clear, and jumps back into the ring, completely unharmed.]]
* OffhandBackhand: With a kick! Ikki tries to sneak up on her and tap her shoulder when he sees her fidgeting outside his room in the second chapter of volume 6. Only realizing that someone was sneaking up on her, but not who, she nearly kicks his head off. Needless to say, Ikki's ''never'' going to try sneaking up on her again.
* OfficialCouple: Stella becomes Ikki's girlfriend as soon as the end of the first volume. By the third volume, they're engaged to be married.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: She managed to win three out of six rounds against Toka, but only one of her losses was described in the Volume 4. While this is impressive given that the latter is far more experienced and has a fast OneHitKill technique, Stella takes this as a sign that she's not living up to her rank.
* OhCrap:
** She's understandably horrified when Ikki walks in on her changing and takes off his clothes.
** She has a similar reaction when Ikki {{No Sell}}s her attacks in her mock duel.
** Later on, she is utterly shocked when she sees Shizuku kissing Ikki in public.
* PlayingWithFire: Her Device, ''Lævateinn'' and also her magic allow her to control fire.
* PowerIncontinence: As a child, she had so little control over her fire magic that she often burned herself. Thanks to TrainingFromHell, she eventually averts this trope and presently has excellent control of her flames, to the point where she can use it to [[HarmfulHealing fuse broken bones]].
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: She's the princess of Vermillion and has worked long and hard to develop and control her talent as a MagicKnight. By the start of the story, she is one of the few A-Ranked Blazers in the world.
* RedBaron: She is often called "The Crimson Princess".
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Her red eyes symbolize her HotBlooded and fiery nature. Do ''not'' make her lose her temper, or these will be the last things you will see.
* RedheadsAreRavishing: Stella is a redheaded buxom beauty. She's Ikki's love interest and the prime MsFanservice of the series.
* RedIsHeroic: The main heroine, distinguished by her long crimson hair.
* RedOniBlueOni: The HotBlooded red to Ikki's calm and rational blue.
* RelationshipUpgrade: Ikki and her go from a typical master and servant relationship to becoming lovers. To the point where Stella accepts Ikki's offer to be his girlfriend.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She's very active as an A-Rank Blazer and as a princess of Vermillion.
* RuleOfThree: When Stella and Ikki are partnered to be in the dormitory, the former gives Ikki three conditions: not to speak to her, not to open his eyes, and not to breathe. This causes Ikki and Stella to fight in their mock duel resulting in former becoming Stella's master.
* ScrewDestiny: Played with. [[spoiler:She barely defeats Xiaoli, a Desperado, despite not being one herself. This means she managed to screw someone else's attempt to ScrewDestiny. This, in turn, allows her to awaken as a Desperado herself.]]
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: She became famous as an A-Rank Blazer in Vermillion. However, she felt that she didn't want to be considered a "genius" by everyone else, so she left the country to study abroad.
* SeeYouInHell: She yells one to Shizuku before they use their Devices to fight each other.
* SelfImposedChallenge: Due to arriving late to the Seven Stars Sword Art Festival's first round, Stella's opponent demands that she be given a penalty. Stella then ups the ante by asking to fight her original opponent and 3 members of Akatsuki in a 4-on-1 match. [[spoiler:She mops the floor with them.]][[invoked]]
* SexGoddess: [[spoiler:She and Ikki finally have sweet tender sex in Volume 9, and while she starts being really shy, she got really fired up mid-sex when she got on top, and she goes so hard on him they ended up using all ''ten'' of the condoms that she brought and Ikki can barely walk the next day.]]
* ShamefulStrip: During her fight with Bisho, she is forced to strip herself naked to comply with his demands to spare the hostages. Luckily it is later averted when [[BigDamnHeroes Ikki shows up]] and [[CurbStompBattle defeats]] the antagonists. He apologizes to Stella who is in her underwear for coming late. However, Stella comments that she was just doing it as a distraction while Shizuku shielded the rest of the hostages with water.
* ShutUpHannibal:
** Stella delivers an epic one towards Kirihara and most of the school when they bash Ikki in volume 1.
** At the end of volume 3, she sends Akaza flying with her Lævateinn just as the latter is going to deliver the finishing blow on him.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She falls in love with Ikki because of his noble way of life.
* SlutShaming: Played with, as Stella does this to herself. Stella and Ikki share a romantic moment in a mountain cabin, where they both end up naked. When Stella notices how excited Ikki is about the situation, Stella straight-up asks him to have sex with her. He turns it down for reasons related to their families -- his family hates him, and he's never met her family, who are nobility. Stella internalizes the rejection as being her being slutty, despite Ikki not only saying no such thing, but Ikki being her devoted boyfriend at the time she asked him. [[spoiler:After the two of them really do have sex, Stella doesn't think this about herself again.]]
* StockingFiller: She wears garters to hold up her black stockings in her school uniform.
* StockLightNovelCalamityPrincess: She's a princess with red half-up-half-down hair, noteworthy as a "genius" with powerful magic that manifests as [[PlayingWithFire fire]], and is the main love interest. Lacking control in her abilities, she has prided herself on working harder than anyone else and is constantly seeking to prove her skills. Her rival does not have blue hair, but does complete the RedOniBlueOni duo by having water and ice powers. She becomes indebted to the hero through a bet and becomes his "slave". She also participates in a TournamentArc as part of her plan to prove her mastery over her power. She [[RedBaron is called "The Crimson Princess"]].
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:Her Dragon Spirit technique boosts her to the point of surpassing Ittou Shura, though at the cost of calories.]]
* TalentedButTrained: She's seen as simply extremely talented, but in reality, Stella does work hard to cultivate her talent. The misconception is an endless source of irritation and frustration for her.
* TalkToTheFist: She knocks Akaza out of the way using Lævateinn to reach Ikki after the latter finishes his battle with Toka.
* TookALevelInKindness: After her duel with Ikki, she becomes nicer towards him to the point that she accepts him for who he really is.
* TrainingFromHell: To control her magic, she undergoes intense training. She also adopts and adapts to Ikki's own TrainingFromHell. Goes into overdrive training for a week with Nene.
* {{Tsundere}}: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. While Stella has a HairTriggerTemper, her outbursts are caused by shyness. By the end of volume 3, Stella drops the ''tsuntsun'' side thanks to Ikki being honest about his feelings towards her, which makes Stella more honest about her own feelings as well.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: In Volume 1, she greatly underestimates Ikki's badassery when they first met and quickly lost to him. By the second half of the volume, she underestimated Bisho's powers and gets knocked down.
* UnprovokedPervertPayback: Played with in the opening of the story. Stella's first encounter with Ikki is when he walks in on her changing clothes, but that was an accident because neither of them knew that they were roommates at school. For the rest of Episode 1 of the anime/part of volume 1, she colors everything Ikki does under the idea that he's a complete perv. She says that she'll forgive him if he [[{{Seppuku}} throws himself upon his sword]], refuses to let him breathe the same air as her to "get high on her fumes" (which Ikki points out is ridiculous), and [[IGaveMyWord tells him that he can do disgusting sexual things to her after he wins]] TheBet. All of this is despite Ikki not only not being a pervert, but actively trying to avoid making Stella uncomfortable.
* UnskilledButStrong: Subverted in the present time. As a child, she had trouble controlling her flames, though she trained and eventually [[TookALevelInBadass raised her control stat to Rank B+]], became both strong and skilled. However, most people still assume she's a powerful fighter only due to her natural talent.
* UnstoppableRage: [[spoiler:She becomes a raging, murderous DraconicHumanoid in volume 15, in the wake of Ikki's demise.]]
* UptownGirl: She's a princess who becomes the girlfriend and later fiancee of a commoner. It's downplayed in that Ikki is technically from a prestigious family, even if the clan head ostracizes him.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Ikki needs to actively restrain her from lashing out at Kuraudo as he harasses Ikki in a diner to avoid making a scene. She later decks Akaza when he tries to kill Ikki while the latter was unconscious, and she does it with so much force that the FatBastard got sent flying. [[spoiler:She becomes a raging, murderous DraconicHumanoid in volume 15, in the wake of Ikki's demise.]]
* VisualInnuendo: In the anime, when Ikki compliments on her beauty, the fire sprinklers put out her flames and cause her to get wet.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Despite arguing with each other, she and Shizuku are friends. Eventually, anyways; the two of them sling insults at each other back and forth not long after they first meet, to the point it gets them bathroom duty when they can't rein it in.
* WingedHumanoid: She gains a pair [[spoiler:of dragon wings in volume 15, after unlocking "Excessive Awakening"]].
* WithMyHandsTied: Stella adopts a policy of intentionally not researching her tournament foe's abilities. She argues that this will better prepare her for enemies with unknown abilities once she becomes a Blazer since an enemy in the field isn't going to just tell her what their weakness is. Stella gets this mindset thanks to her experience at the mall, where simply being powerful wasn't enough to resolve the situation.
* TheWorfEffect: She is an A-Rank Blazer, but gets easily taken down by Ikki during their mock duel to demonstrate Ikki's ability despite his own rank as "the Worst One". However, Ikki was in worse shape after that fight ended than Stella.

Ikki's little sister. She grew up in the Kurogane house along with Ikki until he ran away from home. Her element is water.
----

* ACupAngst: Stella sometimes taunts Shizuku for her chest size when they insult each other. {{Zigzagged|Trope}} in that Shizuku claims to have PetitePride, but she's clearly bothered when Stella stares at her chest to alleviate the shame of losing to Sara's chest.
* AssassinOutclassin: Volume 4. She doesn't just survive any assassin. She survives [[spoiler: and kills]] the leader of a cabal of assassins in single combat.
* BadassAdorable: Small, cute, and cuddly as a cat and just as vicious as one when angered.
* BigBrotherAttraction: She loves her brother a little too much. Specifically, she wants to give him all the love their family denied him. She interprets this as loving him in every possible way all at once.
* BigBrotherWorship: She always admired Ikki as her older brother since they were children, and was one of the two members of the Kurogane Clan to show unconditional love to the latter.
* BloodKnight: When she's set to fight Toka Todo.
* BoyishShortHair: She has very short hair.
* BrotherSisterIncest: She's not shy about expressing her romantic affection for her brother, even in public.
* CombatMedic: It goes hand-in-hand with the Water element due to the human body's high percentage of water.
* DaddysGirl: She is quite beloved by her father and was never punished for anything, but doesn't return his affection for what happened to Ikki.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Aoiro Rinne. While it can heal the most life-threatening of injuries, and make Shizuku nigh-invincible for a short time, the smallest mistake in reconstitution can be immediately fatal, and the mental strain is enormous.
* DarkHorseVictory: In Volume 4, [[spoiler:where most of Hagun got [[CurbStompBattle curbstomped]] by Akatsuki/Rebellion, she was the only student to win her fight (against one of the leaders no less) despite failing to become a Seven Swords Festival representative in the previous volume. Thanks to her performance, Kurono allowed her to become a representative anyways.]]
* ElementalHairColors: Shizuku has short white hair, in contrast to her family's natural black hair. Since her element is water, one of her powers is creating and controlling ice.
* ElementalRockPaperScissors: She gets around this with turning her water ultra-pure, [[ShownTheirWork which resists electricity]].
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In her first appearance, Shizuku publicly kisses Ikki at Hagun Academy in front of the students and develops a rivalry with Stella after learning of their relationship.
* ForcefulKiss: What does she first do to Ikki when she sees him after years of separation? ''Kiss his lips in public'' (and a SpitTrailKiss in the anime, to boot). [[ClingyJealousGirl Stella's]] understandably ''not'' happy about this.
* GoodIsNotSoft: [[spoiler:Did Wallenstein ever choose the wrong girl to kick around.]]
* HalfTheWomanSheUsedToBe: [[spoiler:Wallenstein seemingly cuts Shizuku clean through her waist, much to Alice's horror.]]
* HeroesPreferSwords: She uses her sword Yoishigure as her weapon.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Her brother Ikki towers above her short stature.
* HumansAreBastards: Believes this due to adults giving her preferential treatment because of her powers and because of their treatment of Ikki.
* HumanPincushion: A novel illustration in volume 7 shows her being this.
* AnIcePerson: She is able to freeze any area around her.
* ImportantHaircut: She cuts her hair short to show the strength of her resolve.
* IncestantAdmirer: Ikki only views her as his little sister and reacts with embarrassment whenever Shizuku displays affection towards him in public. At the very least, she steps away from being this [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy after Ikki and Stella fully cement their relationship]].
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: She's okay with Ikki finding a girlfriend, though she initially disagrees with Stella fulfilling that role because how her relationship with Ikki starts out awkward.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Her misanthropy doesn't prevent her from finding friends who she genuinely trusts, like Nagi. She respects Stella for her sense of justice, despite the two normally being at each other's throats.
* LittleSisterHeroine: Stella thought Shizuku wouldn't be a problem for her when Ikki told her she was his blood-related sister. She realizes that she was wrong when the first thing Shizuku does in her introduction is to ''kiss Ikki in public''. Shizuku justifies her incestuous affections by claiming she wants to give her brother all the love his family refused him. However, she does respect Ikki's decision of making Stella his girlfriend and quietly gives up.
* MaddenIntoMisanthropy: After Ikki left the Kurogane home, Shizuku became resentful of humanity and her own family members minus Ikki.
* MakingASplash: She is able to manipulate water to create barriers, and uses it for attacks.
* MeaningfulName: Shizuku means "droplet" in Japanese, reflecting her elemental power.
* MyGreatestFailure: She feels guilty for not realizing how much the Kurogane Clan made Ikki suffer until he left the household.
* NotBloodSiblings: Averted. In Volume 1/Episode 2, Ikki explicitly denies that he and Shizuku aren't blood-related, saying that "she's the daughter of my mother and father" to solidify it. However, that just makes Shizuku kissing Ikki on the lips that much more shocking.
* RankUp: [[spoiler: She goes from B to A-Rank in Volume 15.]]
* RedBaron: She is known to some of her friends as Myth/{{Lorelei}}.
* SeeYouInHell: She yells one to Stella before they use their Devices to fight each other.
* ShrinkingViolet: She's shy around most people, especially men.
* SpockSpeak: Often well-spoken, especially towards Ikki.
* SquishyWizard: This causes her to lose to Toka, though when she's cornered by Wallenstein, she finds a way to mitigate her lack of close combat with her Aoiro Rinne technique.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: She points out that Ikki could have chosen to pursue a non-Blazer career where his lack of magic capacity wouldn't matter, though she didn't quite realize at the time that her family wants to keep him out of public view altogether and not just keep him from becoming a Blazer, meaning they would probably still try to obstruct him.
* SuperSmoke: After [[spoiler:Wallenstein]] bisects her, she uses water magic to turn herself into vapor. Of course, this requires a ridiculous amount of control to avoid killing herself.
* SwissArmySuperpower: She has great versatility with water magic, as shown when she uses ultra-pure water to block lightning attacks and uses her magic to heal wounds. After losing to Toka, she comes up with ways to compensate for her lack of melee ability, such as using Aoiro Rinne to turn herself into fog or placing a membrane of water in the arena to detect her opponent's movements.
* UndyingLoyalty: She's willing to do everything in her power to support Ikki (and, to a lesser extent, Alice).
* UsedToBeASweetKid: When she was young, she was a naïve and kind girl who cared a lot for Ikki. However, when Ikki left his family, Shizuku becomes resentful towards humanity and ''especially'' her own family, except for Ikki.
* WaterIsWomanly: She has very versatile water powers and is a demure girl.
* WeakButSkilled: Most of her stats aren't that high, but she makes up for it with Rank A magic control.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Shizuku gets pissed at Stella for thinking that breaking up with Ikki will get him out of hot water. The reason why this pisses her off is that Ikki is going through the hell he is in to show that he has no shame in his decision and calmly chastises Stella for not even considering that.
-->'''Shizuku:''' If you can't understand that and choose to betray him... [[ThisIsUnforgivable I won't forgive you]].
** In the end of Volume 15, [[TranquilFury without even raising her voice]], [[spoiler:she ''viciously'' tears into Ikki for sacrificing himself to buy time in the fight against Or-Gaule. She tells him that even if dying was the only way to save everyone, choosing that option is unacceptable and that he needs to take responsibility for the pain Stella endured from having to watch him die. [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone Ikki gets the message]]]].
* WhiteSheep: Other than Ryouma, she's the only onscreen Kurogane Clan member who is benevolent to Ikki.
* WhyCantIHateYou: It's revealed in Volume 8 that Shizuku has this attitude towards Stella. On the one hand, she despises the fact that the redhead is quickly becoming the most important person in Ikki's life. On the other hand, Stella is a kind and compassionate person who clearly makes her brother happy, and there's a part of Shizuku deep down that really wants to see the two become a family. Both are the reason she lashes out at Stella and the reason she isn't as malicious as she could be. [[spoiler:Stella saving Shizuku from Amane and condemning him for exposing her feelings for Ikki further complicates things.]]
* VitriolicBestBuds: Despite arguing with each other, she and Stella are friends.
* {{Yandere}}:
** This is PlayedForLaughs since most of her yandere tendencies just result in harmless fights and arguments with Stella. This is also [[DownplayedTrope downplayed]] in that she doesn't mind if Ikki hooks up with someone as long as his partner truly brings him happiness, though she still butts heads with Stella.
** Much more evident in the manga, which depicts her EvilLaugh and SlasherSmile at various points.
** This is deconstructed in Volume 8. [[spoiler:When her attempt to ambush Amane ends in her defeat, the latter mockingly admires her love for her brother in front of the security camera in order to publicly humiliate her.]]

* BecomingTheMask: [[spoiler: Alice grows to genuinely care about Shizuku and her friends, causing her to betray Akatsuki and Rebellion.]]
* TheBerserker: You do not want to be anywhere near Alice when someone close to her is brutally struck down. Alice completely loses consciousness and reduces the target of her rage to LudicrousGibs.
* CoolBigSis: Lampshaded by Shizuku and supported by her composed approach to dealing with terrorist attacks.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler: Alice once belonged to a group of street kids and had to pay tribute to other gangs so she could survive. Unfortunately, the mayor of her town paid that gang to kill her group and successfully killed her partner. While Alice managed to kill the gang members and find the other surviving street kids, she had to leave the group because everyone else was too scared of her killing the gangsters. Afterward, Wallenstein recruited her into the Rebellion terrorist group.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: Not just her powers, but her face looks like a SlasherSmile, and she always seems to be grinning to some degree.
* InSeriesNickname: "Alice," an abbreviation of her surname, Arisuin.
* LivingShadow: Is able to use it to hide and immobilize people. Her device even allows her to use an ability called Shadow Bind, which paralyzes someone if Alice stabs their shadow with her device. She is also capable of using shadows to travel some distance through a type of portal creation formed from shadows.
* MeaningfulName: Nagi means "calm" in Japanese, reflecting her calm demeanor.
* TheMole: [[spoiler:For Akatsuki, at first.]]
* TransTribulations: Alice is assigned-male-at-birth, but describes herself as "a woman trapped in a man's body" and prefers to be referred to with female pronouns. She also gets offended when someone refers to her as a man.
