A 32-year-old computer programmer and the protagonist of our story; a fairly unambitious man whose life gets turned around very quickly after his girlfriend Katherine [=McBride=] starts to pressure him into getting married, ''and'' he is seduced by the mysterious Catherine. At the same time, he's having nightmares where he has to climb towards a cathedral alongside countless other men turned into sheep in order to escape.
----
* AmbiguouslyChristian: In a conversation with [[spoiler:Morgan on Day 5]], he can discuss whether or not he believes in the afterlife.
* AfroAsskicker: His fellow nightmare sheep seem to see him as such, anyway — apparently, his hair resembles a 'fro on his sheep self. [[spoiler:Two sheep in ''Full Body'' immediately recognize him in the bar because of it.]]
* ApologizesALot: Part of his people-pleasing attitude.
* BadassNormal: [[spoiler:Especially in the true cheater ending, when he takes over Hell as its new lord with only a shortsword while being in his undies.]] Best part, he doesn't even think it's a big deal.
* BadLiar: To an almost absurd degree. [[spoiler:Not that being a good liar would've helped, since both girls knew what was going on from the beginning.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He can be seriously scary when he truly gets angry. [[spoiler:Boss]] just so happens to learn that the hard way.
* BiWildered: His romance route with [[spoiler: Rin]] has him deal with the unexpected realisation that he is actually bisexual.
* ButtMonkey: His romantic mishaps are played for laughs.[[spoiler:.. at first.]]
* TheCameo: Well, in a sense. A look-alike appears in ''VideoGame/{{Persona 3}} Portable'' as "Man Drinking Alone", where he talks about getting weird nightmares and how a strange girl who suddenly appeared has suddenly thrown his life for a loop. While fans initially believed him to be the real Vincent, WordOfGod later clarified the matter.
* CassandraTruth: None of Vincent's friends believe him when he tells them that he talks to Catherine at the bar. [[spoiler:Turns out that Catherine is only visible to Vincent because she is a succubus and made it look in front of others that Vincent was talking to himself. Erica also doesn't believe Vincent until she sees with Vincent that Boss was behind the nightmares.]]
* ChickMagnet: According to Orlando, he used to be very popular with girls when he was younger. Not so much nowadays, though he did catch the attention of Catherine. [[spoiler:Though there are bigger reasons for that.]] Heck, even in the modern day, he's engaged to Katherine, Catherine has eyes on him, and Erica's response to him [[spoiler:successfully intimidating Boss, otherwise known as Dumuzid, a freaking god, by threatening to stab him to death]] was to blush from how manly he was. [[spoiler:He even ends up attracting a whole lot of succubi in the "True Cheater" ending because he was so handsome]].
* ClusterFBomb: When he confronts [[spoiler:Boss]] about the nightmares, he's so pissed off that this is the result.
* ColorMotif: Vincent is associated with the color [[PinkIsErotic pink]], as shown by his pink t-shirt, his pink boxers, and the pink bar he attends. The color is used to reflect his love life as Vincent is stuck between 2 women and can't decide if he's ready to settle down and grow up. The color is also used to reflect his childishness as the story is about Vincent coming of age and accepting that he needs to take responsibility for himself and not make Katherine feel like she has to push him in every step of their relationship.
* ComingOfAgeStory: The late bloomer variety. The plot is about Vincent struggling with taking responsibility for himself and making that big step into his adulthood by taking risks and making commitments.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: As opposed to most ''Franchise/ShinMegamiTensei'' leads, who are high school student {{Silent Protagonist}}s with supernatural powers and characterizations defined largely by DialogueTree options, he's an average adult guy with a CanonName, voice, and personality.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: In real life, he's pretty meek and spineless all around. In the dream world, he's a lot more [[{{Determinator}} determined]], and openly defiant to his tormentors. His ability to quickly devise climbing techniques shows he can be especially clever, too. Even in reality, if you push him to his breaking point, he is not afraid of getting physical with people and outright threatens to ''shank'' [[spoiler:Boss]] if he doesn't spill the beans about what's going on.
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: [[spoiler:In the True Cheater ending, he becomes a demon lord with Catherine as his bride.]]
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Comes close to crossing it when he loses Katherine. Depending on how you play, he can either get back with her, get over it, or make the last leap over it.]]
* {{Determinator}}:
** Just ''try'' and tell this guy that he's not going to get through the night's 'mare.
** Upon getting a GameOver, using one of your retries prompts him to say "Now's not the time to be dead!"
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Catherine threatening him, breaking into his house multiple times and beating the shit out of him in the bar's bathroom are played for laughs, despite Vincent obviously fearing for his life and sanity.
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: The game's whole conflict is the [[InsistentTerminology "affair"]] he had with Catherine. Said "affair" involved him getting drunk and Catherine ''raping'' him. He is treated as a cheater for this.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:If you choose C/Katherine/Rin and get the True endings.]]
* TheEveryman: He starts out as an ordinary guy with fairly mundane problems. Then he starts having deadly nightmares.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: [[spoiler: Of his 3 love interests, he manages to attract Rin, who identifies as male. Though it's likely since Rin is an alien from a OneGenderRace, he has no qualms about pursuing relationships with other men.]]
* EvilOverlord: [[spoiler:Sort of becomes one in the True Cheater ending, if rulers of demon realms count.]]
* EvilSoundsDeep: [[spoiler:In the "True Cheater" ending, after he becomes a demon lord.]]
* {{Gayngst}}: Subverted. Vincent has a very brief existential crisis after finding out that [[spoiler:Rin is a cross-dresser]], even once pushing him away when he tries to comfort him. He quickly gets over it and owns up to his poor reaction, though. He can also wholly accept his bisexuality if the player wishes to pursue Rin.
* AGodIsYou: [[spoiler:Trisha invokes this by replacing Dumuzid with [[NoFourthWall the Player]] if you beat the Babel stages.]]
* GoofyPrintUnderwear: A lovely pair of boxers with pink spots that Vincent brings with him to every Nightmare. Apparently, Vincent's [[LimitedWardrobe closet is full of them.]] Also, if you bought the [[UltimateEdition "Love is Over" edition]], you score a real-life pair of your very own.
* GrewASpine: After letting himself get pushed around all week, Vincent gains some assertion when [[spoiler:he confronts the Boss over the Nightmare, and wrings every answer he can get out of the old man]].
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler:To his girl of choice in the "True Lovers", "True Cheater" and in the "True Rin" endings. In the former, he marries Katherine in a traditional white wedding. The latter has him passionately kissing Catherine after he turns into a demon, along with a bunch of succubi, right on top of poor [[ButtMonkey Nergal]]. Vincent also ends up married to Catherine in a traditional white wedding in Catherine's new ending.]]
* HellHasNewManagement: [[spoiler:In the True Cheater ending, he marries Catherine and chooses to stay with her in the netherworld, eventually becoming a demon himself. Not just any old demon, mind... ''The most powerful one in existence''.]]
* HellishPupils: [[spoiler:He becomes an incubus in the True Cheater ending and gains slitted pupils.]]
* HopeBringer: To the other sheep. They start looking up to him and are inspired by his determination and his success at climbing the tower.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Possibly subverted; while Vincent himself makes mistakes, a fully lawful Vincent can be seen as this.
* JawDrop: At ''least'' twice per day.
* LargeHam: Especially in the English version, where it's clear that Creator/TroyBaker had a ''lot'' of fun going overboard with his yells.
* LoserProtagonist: He's in his thirties, doesn't even have a kitchen in the hole he calls an apartment, goes out drinking every night, and has a job that he's never shown at.
* ManChild: Starts out as a less lighthearted/comical version — Vincent is constantly late for work, he slacks off, he does not exercise basic hygiene or cleaning habits, forgets important dates, he shows no interest in personal growth or developing relationships (having settled into an apathetic rut with Katherine and only ever talking about himself with his high school friends), and he fawns helplessly over the first pretty face he sees. Without question, he's Atlus' most immature protagonist to date ([[spoiler:he can get better in a few endings, and in a few he can get worse, eventually devolving into a PsychopathicManchild]]).
* MessyHair: Has some pretty scruffy bedhair, to where it's his distinguishing trait as a sheep to other sheep.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: The whole story of the game is Vincent struggling with his internal conflict and feeling immense guilt and anxiety from cheating on Katherine.
* NiceGuy: Commitment issues and "cheating" aside, he's mostly friendly and approachable, even [[HopeBringer encouraging others when they feel hopeless]].
* OrderVersusChaos: Represented in the game as Commitment vs. Freedom. Making the choice [[spoiler:or not]] forms the crux of his CharacterDevelopment.
* TheParagon: He can encourage the rest of the sheep to endure through the climbing, to press on despite the difficulty.
* PerpetualPoverty: He just started a new job and checking the ATM says he doesn't have a whole lot of money [[spoiler:especially if it’s about supporting Katherine, and a potential baby, as well]], he seems to run his drinks on a tab at the Stray Sheep, and Katherine mentions his drinking not being a very cheap past-time, either. Erica even uses "paying [his] tab" as a threat at one point. Although he still had the money to spend on a new laptop and the new model of his phone that came out last week.
* PowerIsSexy: It's implied that this is the reason why [[spoiler:so many succubi end up fawning all over him in the True Cheater ending, as he becomes the netherworld's most powerful demon]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: [[spoiler:He ends up gaining red eyes after transforming into a demon in the "True Cheater" ending. Unlike the pathetic Nergal, he's a more effective demon lord with a massive (female) following.]]
* SayMyName: "'''''[[NoIndoorVoice C/K/QATHERRIINNNNEEE!!!]]'''''" (even at the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWGNqeuCaNU Title Screen]]! Doubles as a TitleDrop!)
* SexGod: [[spoiler:Can become an InUniverse one, at least for the demons, if the True Cheater route is taken. He's so attractive that all the succubi start procrastinating from their duties so they could be around him.]]
* SexuallyTransmittedSuperpowers: [[spoiler:In the "True Freedom" ending, he marries the succubus Catherine, and after a time-skip, he's turned into a demon himself and become the new King of Hell.]]
* ShadowArchetype: [[spoiler:Shadow of Vincent of course, hinting towards a Continuity towards the ''Franchise/{{Persona}}'' series.]]
* SlouchOfVillainy: [[spoiler:True Cheater ending, oh yes. And it is ''awesome''.]]
* SpottingTheThread: Downplayed. He realizes that [[spoiler:Boss was the only one who ever saw Catherine]], but he doesn't deduce the implications until said other character accidentally blunders away the true extent of their involvement with his nightmares.
* StraightGay: Straight ''bisexual'', to be more precise. Vincent doesn't display any gay stereotypes in his behavior but he can still pursue a romantic relationship with [[spoiler: Rin]] even after he becomes aware of the fact that [[spoiler: Rin is actually a [[DudeLooksLikeALady guy]]]].
* SuperStrength: Not normally, but in the Nightmares, he can move ANY block type barring the Immovable Blocks. There's also no limit to how many blocks in a row he can move, which can include either all of one block type or several block types at once (white blocks, heavy blocks, etc...).
* TakeAThirdOption: [[spoiler:The True Freedom Endings, in which he rejects both girls. Also does this if you choose to pursue Rin instead of the other two girls.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Towards the end. [[spoiler:Even moreso if you choose Catherine and get the "True Cheater" ending, where Vincent apparently fought and dethroned a powerful demon off-screen, and took the power for himself.]]
* TeamDad: Towards the other sheep. As the nights go on, they all really start looking up to him. Often he'll teach them any techniques he's learned thus far.
* ThisLoserIsYou: See LoserProtagonist above.
* TraumaCongaLine: From the very start of the game, Vincent is pressured into marrying Katherine, cheats on her, is continually assaulted and abused by Catherine, experiences horrific nightmares that kill people in their sleep, loses his new friend/crush, Rin (depending on whether or not you want to go with Rin), loses his long-time girlfriend (although they can get back together depending on which ending you get) and finds out that [[spoiler: Thomas Mutton was the person behind everything. And he also caused Vincent's mother to cheat on her ex in order to have a family with another man]]. The Catherine Bad Ending is even worse as Vincent [[spoiler: loses Catherine, is believed to be crazy by his friends, and gets hit by a car]].
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Deconstructed, real or not, he does embrace his cheating heart, at least at first. He can also be a bit cold toward Katherine, instead of being adult enough to just break up with her, and clearly has an alcohol problem. In spite of all this, however, we see just how horrific this trope really is and how he most certainly does '''not''' deserve even a tenth of what he goes through, just because he's JerkAss with real issues that he needs to work through. He's also not beyond redemption, so there's that.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: [[spoiler:True Cheater ending, natch.]]
* WalkingShirtlessScene: In the Nightmare Stages, where all he's wearing is his boxers.

The titular seductress; Catherine seduces Vincent at the Stray Sheep bar and it's after meeting her that his nightmares begin. She is ''quite'' the ClingyJealousGirl and is implied to be more than a little crazy.
----
* ActorAllusion: All of her available voice actresses have played at least one character who was cheated (or, for the ''Persona'' characters, has the ''option'' to be cheated) on by their significant other. Further, most of them have also played various characters in previous Atlus games.
** Creator/MiyukiSawashiro: Elizabeth and Chidori in ''VideoGame/Persona3''. Makoto Sako in ''VideoGame/DevilSurvivor2''.
** Creator/MamikoNoto: Fuuka Yamagishi in ''VideoGame/Persona3''.
** Creator/AmiKoshimizu: Yukiko Amagi in ''VideoGame/Persona4'', Hinako Kujou in ''VideoGame/DevilSurvivor2'', and Maiko Shimazaki in ''VideoGame/TokyoMirageSessionsFE''.
** Creator/AoiYuuki: Futaba Sakura in ''VideoGame/Persona5''.
** Creator/YuiHorie: Chie Satonaka in ''VideoGame/Persona4''.
** Creator/KanaAsumi: Airi Ban in ''VideoGame/DevilSurvivor2'' and Kotomi Shiomi (female protagonist) from the ''Theatre/Persona3'' musical.
** Creator/HarukaTomatsu: Haru Okumura in ''VideoGame/Persona5''.
** Creator/MegumiToyoguchi: Yukari Takeba in ''VideoGame/Persona3''.
** Creator/RieKugimiya and Creator/LauraBailey: Rise Kujikawa in ''VideoGame/Persona4''.
** Creator/RinaSato: Makoto Niijima in ''VideoGame/Persona5''.
** Creator/NanaMizuki: Ann Takamaki in ''VideoGame/Persona5''.
* AppearanceIsInTheEyeOfTheBeholder: [[spoiler:She appears as the MsFanservice of her current target, to the point her age, build, race, skin and hair colors will vary wildly from person to person.]]
* AstonishinglyAppropriateAppearance: [[spoiler:Her boss forms.]]
** [[spoiler:The Immoral Beast, whose face is a walking mish-mash of a butt and a vagina with eyes, represents the sin and lust that will warp Vincent and (potentially) kill him if he stays for too long.]]
** [[spoiler:Her second boss form, found in the Cathedral, is a desiccated corpse with a mouth full of sharp teeth; she's a monster who lures unsuspecting men with an attractive veneer.]]
* BabiesEverAfter: [[spoiler:In final post-credits image of Catherine's new ending, it shows that she has had 4 children with Vincent.]]
* BettyAndVeronica: The Veronica to Katherine's Betty.
* CharacterTitle: The only one in the localized version. In the Japanese version, she shares this trope with Katherine.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She does ''not'' take no for an answer, and if anyone tries to say otherwise, she tends to get... violent.
* CosmicRetcon: In ''Full Body'', achieving Catherine's new Ending has [[spoiler:Catherine using TimeTravel to transport herself and Vincent back to Vincent's high school days, where Catherine has become a student in Vincent's class. She becomes his girlfriend in place of Katherine, and they get HappilyMarried a few years later.]]
* DaddysLittleVillain: [[spoiler:She's not only a succubus, but she's the daughter of the ''Lord of The Underworld''.]]
* TheDragon: [[spoiler:Mutton has Catherine seduce men in order to test if they're worthy of evading his deathtraps.]]
* {{Dominatrix}}: [[spoiler:In most of the pictures in the Good Cheater Ending, it seems Vincent has a BDSM kink.]]
* DudeMagnet: Men flock to her, such as Vincent and Steve. [[spoiler:This in part because she's a succubus, but most of the men in the game have expressed attraction or fallen for her, in her many forms.]]
* FemmeFatale: [[spoiler:She's a succubus tasked with finding men who are single or cheating on their significant others to be tested in the Nightmare.]]
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: [[spoiler:She takes on the ideal appearance of whatever the target's desire is. The true cheater ending shows what is potentially part of her true form, a body with demonic wings, ram horns, and black and white geometric patterns all over her skin. But even then, her face and hair still remain as Vincent's ideal woman.]]
* FreudianTrio: As of ''Full Body'', of the three love interests, she's the chaotic Id.
* GodivaHair: [[https://tcrf.net/File:Catherine-Cell-Image-3-Final.png One of the provocative pictures]] she sends Vincent has her hair covering her boobs.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: [[spoiler:A lighthearted version in the True Cheater ending, where she becomes queen of the netherworld, ruling alongside Vincent.]]
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler:Her and Vincent get hooked up in the True Cheater ending, becoming the King and Queen of the netherworld. In Full Body, there is an ending where Vincent and Catherine have a more traditional wedding in the normal world with Catherine now visible to everyone.]]
* HiddenDepths: She actual has decent programming skills which are enough to land her a job developing video games at Fowles Electronics.
* HornedHumanoid: [[spoiler:Her true form is a pale-skinned, horned succubus]].
* HypocriticalHumor: She bursts into the story espousing how fun it is to be free and independent, but later phone calls with her reveal that she still lives with her father.
* InLoveWithTheMark:
** [[spoiler:In the Good and True Cheater Endings, she admits that she'd been ignoring the other men she was sent to seduce because she wanted to spend more time with Vincent.]]
** [[spoiler:It's heavily implied that the reason Steve found out about Vincent is because Catherine's mind wasn't on the job.]]
** She actually fell in love [[spoiler:with a human]] shortly before meeting Vincent, but broke off their affair when he couldn't bring himself to let go of earthly pleasures (read: beer) to really be with her.
* InvisibleToNormals: [[spoiler:She can only be seen by the men she seduces.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Like Katherine. Only here, she can be physically abusive and pushy, but she still genuinely loves Vincent. [[GreyAndGrayMorality (Well, they are both in the gray zone.)]]
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler:Despite being an accessory to more than a few deaths and ruining multiple relationships, she never is called out for this and can even be married in two endings.]]
** Downplayed in that she's not the one responsible, per se, but she [[PunchClockVillain may be doing her job]].
* LettingHerHairDown: [[spoiler:After she uses CosmicRetcon to appear as a human girl in her "New" True Ending, she is shown with straight hair.]]
%%* ManicPixieDreamGirl: A particularly dark, {{Invoked|Trope}} version.
* MsFanservice: {{Invoked|Trope}}, [[spoiler:seeing as how she's a succubus, she takes on the appearance of Vincent's ''ideal'' MsFanservice]]. {{Exaggerated|Trope}} in ''Full Body'', where ''ten'' additional voice actresses re-recorded Catherine's lines so the player can select their "ideal" version.
* NakedApron: [[spoiler:In one of the pictures in the Good Cheater ending.]]
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: The Mean to Katherine's In-Between and Rin's Nice.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:She turns into an enormous, monstrous version of herself in a nightmare Vincent has, so she can chase down and murder Katherine, and, supposedly, Vincent.]]
* OnlyOneName: She's just known as "Catherine", you never learn her last name. [[spoiler:This is probably because she comes from an ancient Mesopotamian pantheon that doesn't use family names.]]
* OurGodsAreDifferent: [[spoiler:Since her father is named Nergal, a god within the same pantheon as Dumuzid and Ishtar, and may very well ''be'' that Nergal, this technically makes her a goddess as well. Since her father is a god of destruction and the underworld, she just so happens to take a demonic form just as he does.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: The Red Oni to Katherine's Blue. Even has a bit of red on her outfit while Katherine has a bit of blue.
* RetGone: [[spoiler:She could only interact with Vincent in the first place, but when she was defeated in the Nightmare, all of her calls, texts, and pictures vanished from his phone.]]
* RomanticFakeRealTurn: [[spoiler:Initially begins a relationship with Vincent as part of her job as a succubus, but as the story progresses, she begins to develop actual feelings for him. By the time Vincent breaks up with her, she is genuinely upset. Depending on the KarmaMeter, she can marry Vincent at the end of the story.]]
* SecretTestOfCharacter: What her seductions ultimately constitute. Falling for her charms gets you [[spoiler:sent to the nightmare]].
* SuccubiAndIncubi: [[spoiler:Her true nature is that of a succubus, who feeds on the lust of men.]]
* SuccubusInLove: Genuinely falls in love with Vincent to the point she rather be with him then temp any other men. [[spoiler:She even marries Vincent in two different endings.]]
* UglyGuysHotDaughter: [[spoiler:She's the pretty succubus daughter of the fat, ugly, bearded Nergal.]]
* TheUnreveal:
** [[spoiler:We never find out exactly what she looked like to Steve (the game pans away during Steve's description of her and we don't get to hear it), only that she wasn't blonde-haired, nor white.]]
** [[spoiler:Finally averted in the novelization, which provides artwork of what Catherine looks like to other people, namely [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/catherinethegame/images/f/f3/CatherineToOrlando.png Orlando]] (who sees her as a dark-skinned Hispanic woman), [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/catherinethegame/images/c/c6/CatherineAsKatherineToJonny.png Jonny]] (who sees her as a near exact copy of Katherine), and [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/catherinethegame/images/0/00/CatherineToSteve.png Steve]] (who sees her as a freckled Asian girl).]]
* WalkingSpoiler: Just ''look'' at her trope list! You can say that she kicks off a large portion of the events, but going beyond that gets to the point that you are close to revealing something.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Goes into an utter panic mode during the swarm of ants one morning in Vincent's room. [[spoiler:Rather appropriate, since she's a succubus demon, and demons represent chaos, something that the human Katherine isn't.]]
* {{Yandere}}: Notably on Day 7, where she beats the hell out of Vincent for even ''trying'' to break up with her. [[spoiler:In Full Body, when in Rin's Route on Day 8, she kills the nightmare versions of Rin (whom she realizes Vincent had fallen for earlier) and Katherine (part of Vincent's fears of her finding out he's in another relationship)]].

Vincent's girlfriend. They met at a high school reunion and struck up a relationship. She's said to be a career woman, but she also wants to get married. The pressure over whether or not to do so is partially what sets Vincent's story into motion.
----
* AccidentalMurder: [[spoiler:Ends up doing this to Catherine before The Cathedral, though it turns out to have been AllJustADream.]]
* ActionGirl: [[spoiler:Only in the dream world, where she actually does a good job at climbing. However, [[AIRoulette the AI can make the experience rather frustrating]].]]
* AnimalMotifs: Ants, which symbolize a need to conform to an orderly way of life. Ants show up in most of the cutscenes where Katherine and Vincent are together, and usually appear in some sort of way related to her. Her rival for Vincent's affections is also freaked out by ants.
* AllGuysWantCheerleaders: In Full Body, she is seen rejecting the advances of a couple football players in a High School {{Flashback}}.
* AxCrazy: If you are on Rin's Route in ''Full Body'', [[spoiler:the 8th Day dream sequence has Katherine attacking both Catherine and Vincent with a fire axe. She is eventually slaughtered by Catherine's chainsaw.]]
* TheBabyTrap: She uses the fact that she's pregnant to take control of Vincent's finances and actively tries to push him to marrying her because of it. [[spoiler:She keeps this up even when she finds out she's not pregnant.]]
* BettyAndVeronica: The Betty to Catherine's Veronica.
* BrokenSmile: [[spoiler:Develops one during the breakup scene, although it's small.]]
* CharacterTitle: With Catherine in the Japanese version, where their names are spelled the same way.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: [[spoiler:With Vincent. May become a victorious or an unlucky one depending on the ending.]]
* ControlFreak: She demands that Vincent stop smoking - which is not an completely unreasonable request - but she also says she'll be taking control of Vincent's finances without bothering to ask his permission for it.
* DeathGlare: [[spoiler:Gives Vincent one hell of a look in the dream world before discovering his affair.]]
* DefrostingIceQueen: In her Good Endings.
* DudeMagnet: She is pretty popular with the guys. Apart from both [[OfficialCouple Vincent]] and [[HopelessSuitor Jonny]], she rejects the advances of a couple football players in high school.
* FinancialAbuse: Says she'll be taking control of Vincent's finances after discovering her pregnancy, claiming that it's because he needs to be more responsible. [[spoiler:She keeps up with this even after discovering she's not pregnant.]]
* FreudianTrio: As of ''Full Body'', of the three love interests, she's the lawful Superego.
* HairColorDissonance: Is that... blonde? Light brown? Vaguely pinkish?
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler:To Vincent in the True Lovers ending.]]
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:Turns out she knew that Vincent was cheating all along.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite being a cold, domineering person, she legitimately loves Vincent and has his best interests at heart, despite knowing that he may not want to follow through with them.
* IceQueen: Her coldness is rather blatant. [[spoiler:The first boss in the nightmare world, she returns in the fifth stage, "Quadrangle", where the tower practically takes place in a blizzard.]]
* InopportuneVoiceCracking: Non-comedic (and possibly unintentional on Creator/KotonoMitsuishi's part, but still) example: If you listen closely to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muhru2YASTQ&t=6m54s the Japanese dub]], when Katherine screams loudly on Day 8 [[spoiler:after accidentally killing Catherine]], her voice starts out ''really'' high-pitched, and then almost immediately breaks and becomes very scratchy.
* LeavingYouToFindMyself: One of the new endings in ''Full Body'' has her [[spoiler:leaving Vincent and upon self-reflection, decides to improve her life by becoming a model. When they meet again, before departing, she convinces him to take his freedom like she did and live his life]].
* ManipulativeBitch: Due to her FinancialAbuse of Vincent and [[spoiler:attempting to use a variant of TheBabyTrap]] to get him to marry her, even maintaining it after finding out she's not actually pregnant.
* MeaningfulName: Her last name is Mc''Bride''.
* MsFanservice: [[spoiler: Full Body showed that she is quite the looker. And in her new ending, she still has the looks to attract suitors]].
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: The In-Between to Catherine's Mean and Rin's Nice.
* NotSoStoic: Majority of the time, she's pretty calm, but flips her shit [[spoiler:in the dream world where she finds out Vincent is cheating and gets into a heated argument with Catherine. It's even more evident about the fact that she's not pregnant when Catherine questions her and Katherine gives her a slightly stuttered retort]]. In the real world, she takes it rather gracefully.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue Oni to Catherine's Red. Even has a bit of blue on her outfit while Catherine has a bit of red.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: [[spoiler:Shortly after breaking the news to Vincent, she discovered she wasn't pregnant after all, but wanted to see if Vincent would come clean about his affair if she had been.]]
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: She yells a nice one at Catherine during 8th Day.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rin_2.jpg]]

A new character introduced in the ''Full Body'' UpdatedRerelease. Commonly goes by the name "Rin" and is also a pianist hired by Boss to play at the Stray Sheep Bar. Rin serves as a third "Catherine" for Vincent to romance, offering a [[TakeAThirdOption third option]] in the OrderVersusChaos exploration of relationships in the game.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: Rin shows no romantic interest in anyone besides Vincent, but also claims not to care much about a potential partner's gender [[spoiler: or species]].
* AmnesiacsAreInnocent: Rin's innocent and simple-minded behavior and lack of memories cause Vincent to act as Rin's guardian initially.
* AngelicAliens: [[spoiler: In the True/Good Ending, at the Stray Sheep, Rin reveals that he belongs to a race which are considered "angels" in Vincent's world.]]
* BathingBeauty: Rin enjoys taking long showers but has trouble figuring out how to fix the temperature of the water. Vincent helps out after Rin has a shower that's too cold and then Rin passes out when the next shower is too hot.
* BuryYourGays: Briefly. [[spoiler: In Full Body, in Rin's route, Rin gets killed by a jealous Catherine in Vincent's dream. Rin gets better though due to being an extraterrestrial with a healing factor.]]
* CampGay: [[spoiler: Downplayed. It is revealed that Rin is actually not a woman but a male crossdresser. However, Rin's comment about gender not being important when it comes to love suggests that he might be bisexual/pansexual.]]
* CharacterTitle: [[spoiler: Reversing the dialogue when he mentions his real name will give you "Qatherine Fullbody."]]
* ClosetKey: If [[spoiler: Vincent]] pursues a romance with Rin, then [[spoiler:Rin will be the first man that Vincent falls in love with and prompt him to realize that he is bisexual.]]
* CreepyCrossdresser: [[spoiler: Inverted. Rin looks very cute when crossdressing to the point that one would be easily forgiven for thinking that he is a woman.]]
* DamselInDistress: When Rin and Vincent first meet, Rin is running from a mysterious pursuer. Later in Rin's route, [[spoiler: he's kidnapped by the BigBad for interfering with the "curse"]].
* DiegeticSwitch: Rin's the one playing the piano piece that serves as the theme of the Stray Sheep bar, "Also Sprach Brooks", in the updated re-release.
* DiscountLesbians: [[spoiler: He's a feminine, crossdressing member of a pink alien race.]]
* DudeLooksLikeALady: [[spoiler: And sounds like one, too. Exaggerrated as due to his petite stature, girly voice and dainty mannerisms, it's almost ''impossible'' to tell he's a boy, even when he's not wearing a cute dress.]]
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** [[spoiler: In a conversation, Rin reveals he has LGBT-friendly views, saying if people are in love, he doesn’t see why their sex should not matter because love is love.]]
** When asked by Jonny Ariga about love between a human and non-human, Rin says species should not matter either. [[spoiler: Both of these instances hint towards Rin's relationship with Vincent, and how Rin is the same sex as Vincent, as well as Rin being of alien origin.]]
* FreudianTrio: The Ego of the three love interests as of ''Full Body''.
* GayOption: [[spoiler: He's a young man that Vincent can romance in the UpdatedRerelease]].
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: in Rin's True Ending, Vincent and Rin will marry in the Stray Sheep with Vincent's friends - and Katherine - at their side.]]
* IncompatibleOrientation: Can be played straight or averted with [[spoiler: Vincent, depending on player's choice,]] after [[spoiler: Vincent finds out that Rin is a guy]].
* InnocentBlueEyes: Has blue eyes and is kind and naive.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Rin also doesn’t seem to view sexuality as something embarrassing or perhaps is nescient about it; [[spoiler: when Rin accidentally exposes himself in front of Vincent, he displays no shame and does not try to cover his body.]]
* InSeriesNickname: Commonly goes by "Rin", as opposed to Qatherine. Or even worse, [[spoiler: @+*+?&$.]]
* TheKlutz: Is described to 'lack social etiquette'. Rin is shown to be somewhat clumsy, creating embarrassing situations. Rin also has some unusual behavior and lacks social etiquette skills.
* LeavingYouToFindMyself: The non-True ending with Rin [[spoiler:has him leave Vincent a few weeks after being rescued from Thomas Mutton's engineered nightmare (and his brother doesn't get involved at all). He decides to go help others with his power, but it's made clear that he plans to return to Vincent eventually. Though as one of the End Credits pictures shows, Vincent eventually goes after Rin.]]
* LiterallyLovingThyNeighbor: Rin's new apartment is right next door to Vincent's.
* LonelyPianoPiece: The default song Rin plays is the quiet, slightly sorrowful solo piano piece "Also Sprach Brooks" that you can hear when you're hanging out at the bar.
* LoveInterests: Rin's one of the possible three love interests Vincent can end up in a relationship within ''Full Body''.
* MagicalGirlfriend: Fits the mold almost painfully straightforwardly, but still bucks tradition by the fact that Rin's route is at odds with Vincent currently being in a relationship with Katherine. [[spoiler: Ends up being a GenderInvertedTrope when Rin is revealed to be a young man.]]
* MarkOfTheSupernatural: Has bubblegum pink hair, unlike most of the cast, whose hair colors are more natural. [[spoiler:It's not dyed. He's a member of an alien race whose ''skin'' is bubblegum pink.]]
* NiceGirl: Rin is generally shown to be very kind and understanding and is almost never rude to anyone.
* NoSocialSkills: Described as "lacking proper social etiquette". [[spoiler:{{Justified|Trope}} since he comes from a race of Aliens and is an amnesiac.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: Despite apparently being around the same age as the rest of the cast (to the point Rin was hired to work at a bar), Rin has a small build, pink hair, and purposefully wears clothes that resemble a Japanese high school SailorFuku.
* OtherworldlyAndSexuallyAmbiguous: [[spoiler:Rin is an [[AngelicAliens Angelic Alien]] that has shapeshifted into human form to help save those trapped in nightmares. His human form is that of a feminine young man, but he crossdresses and presents himself to Vincent as a young woman.]]
* ThePianoPlayer: Was hired by Boss to play the piano at the Stray Sheep Bar.
* QueerColors: Rin's color palette is light blue, pink and white, the colors of the [[spoiler: transgender flag]]. However, it actually turns out to be a [[RedHerring red herring]] as Rin is [[spoiler: actually not a trans woman but a cross-dressing guy]]. Nevertheless, Rin is a [[spoiler: romance option for Vincent]] which implies that [[spoiler: he is gay/bisexual]].
* RedHerring: Is tied with a lot of angelic motifs and imagery but [[spoiler:is actually an alien who has a form that superficially resembles an angel]].
** Rin's colour scheme (blue, pink and white) is very similar to that used in the [[spoiler: transgender]] flag which could cause an [[GeniusBonus observant]] player to suspect that Rin is a [[spoiler: trans woman]]. However, it turns out that Rin is actually [[spoiler: not a trans woman but a ''very'' feminine [[DudeLooksLikeALady guy]]]].
* SailorFuku: Rin's one piece dress evokes this, with a short cut and a sailor sash top.
* SdrawkcabName: [[spoiler:Rin's true name is revealed right before the final battle to be Ydoblluf Enirehtaq, or by reversing the audio, [[TitleDrop Qatherine Fullbody.]]]]
* SpeculativeFictionLGBT: [[spoiler:Rin's a shapeshifted alien, and also a pretty young man who Vincent mistakes for a girl.]]
* ThinkingUpPortals: [[spoiler:Rin's race has the ability to create portals to teleport.]]
* ThirdOptionLoveInterest: Rin is newly introduced in the [[Platform/PlayStation4 PS4]], [[Platform/PlayStationVita Vita]], and Nintendo Switch UpdatedRerelease as a third option between Catherine and Katherine.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: Downplayed. Rin won't come back after Day 6 if Vincent pursues one of the other love interests.
* TheTwink: [[spoiler: Downplayed. Rin is a very pretty guy and Vincent can pursue a romantic relationship with him. However, Rin's belief that love should not be defined by gender implies that he is bisexual/pansexual.]]
* TheUnpronounceable: [[spoiler:There is no language that comes close to pronouncing Rin's true name correctly. In the subtitles, it's spelled as @+*+?&$, and even then the spoken version sounds like a word said backwards]].
* UnsettlingGenderReveal: [[spoiler:Is revealed to be a boy on Day 6, sending Vincent briefly into denial.]]
* VersionExclusiveContent: Rin only appears in the [[Platform/PlayStation4 PS4]], [[Platform/PlayStationVita Vita]], and Platform/NintendoSwitch ''Catherine: Full Body'' UpdatedRerelease, not the original [[Platform/PlayStation3 PS3]] and Platform/Xbox360 versions of the game.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: [[spoiler:Rin is a friendly and supportive male crossdresser/{{otokonoko}} trying to save people from the nightmares and also serves as one of Vincent's love interests.]]

[[quoteright:286:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/orlando_haddick.png]]
Orlando is one of Vincent's oldest friends and another frequenter of the Stray Sheep bar. He tends to lean towards freedom in everything he does and isn't particularly keen on the idea of marriage.
----
* AllMenArePerverts:
** His immediate reaction to Vincent's ramblings about whether or not he should call the affair with Catherine off and apologize to Katherine can basically be summed up as, "Great — Hook ''me'' up with her instead."
** When Vincent starts telling him about the pics that Catherine is sending him, he demands that he save those pics so he can see them later.
* DeadpanSnarker: Notably while talking to Vincent in the cubicles.
* StepfordSmiler: It's implied that his laid-back attitude and preference for the bachelor lifestyle is a front for how bitter he's been since his wife left him.

Jonny is another bachelor friend of Vincent's who frequents the bar. A used car salesman who works for his father's company and plans to continue the family business. He tends to lean towards the "order" side of things and has a yearning to find his own soulmate some day.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: [[spoiler:If Vincent breaks up with Katherine, he reveals that he's had feelings for her for years. Katherine does not return his feelings.]]
* BigBrotherMentor: To Toby.
* BlackAndWhiteMorality: He demonstrates his thinking this way as early as [[spoiler: Day 1]] when discussing finding a soulmate and marriage.
--> '''Vincent''': "What if you never meet your, "soulmate?"
--> '''Jonny''': "Then I'll never get married."
* TheBroCode: [[spoiler: He'll break it if Vincent breaks up with Katherine for good, but is turned down by her.]]
* {{Foil}}: Given his similar appearance, his leaning towards order, and [[spoiler:eventual asking of Katherine out]], he's essentially what Vincent could become if he actually made up his mind for once.
* HiddenDepths: He presents himself as rather aloof and casual, but he clearly values hard work and taking responsibility as shown by his and Toby's interactions when discussing work at the bar, and he is FAR more positive thinking, and believes in finding your one true love.
* InSeriesNickname: Toby frequently calls him "Chief".
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler:In Rin's route Jonny ends up falling for a half pink alien woman.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler: On the 7th Day in ''Fullbody'', after Vincent's possible final phone call with Rin, as Vincent goes on about Rin, Jonny is shown to be slowly becoming agitated, and [[TranquilFury keeping a straight face]], angrily slams down his sake cup at one point and slowly clenches his fist. This anger cultivates if Vincent decides to pursue a relationship with Rin, and the normally quiet and reserved Jonny suddenly punches him without any warning and knocks Vincent to the ground; '''EVERYONE''' is shocked at him doing this!]]
** This also comes into play for [[spoiler: Lindsey and Martha]], who [[spoiler: both cover their mouths in response]].
-->[[spoiler: '''Orlando''']](wide-eyed): [[spoiler: "The fuck, Jonny?"]]
* OneTrueLove: Is currently looking for one.
* TheQuietOne: The least talkative of Vincent's friends.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue Oni, mostly towards Toby. He tends to be calm, level-headed, and clad in duller clothing to represent his leaning towards stability as opposed to Toby's instability.
* SmokingIsCool: He's often seen smoking a cigarette, [[spoiler:and even appears as the "Smoking Sheep" in the nightmares]].
* TheSpock: Not as deliberate as other examples, but in comparison to the rest of Vincent's friends, he shows very little emotion and is also the first one to offer Vincent more logical responses to his dilemma early on such as suggesting that he (Vincent) and Katherine break up with each other if things aren't going well.
* StrongerThanTheyLook: [[spoiler: Jonny shows in ''Fullbody'' that he is NOT one to be messed with as, when pursuing Rin's route, he is able to send Vincent flying out of his seat and onto the floor with ONE PUNCH]]!
* TokenMinority: With the last name Ariga, this makes him the only person of Asian heritage in Vincent's group, let alone the entire game.
* TranquilFury: [[spoiler: After Vincent's phone call with Rin on Day 7, Vincent starts to go on about Rin and Jonny is VERY clearly frustrated, and violently slams down his sake cup at one point, but he keeps his cool while he and Vincent and Orlando keep talking]].
* WhatTheHellHero: He isn't very fond of Vincent apparently cheating on Katherine, but that's about as far as it goes. However, when Vincent admits he may end up actually loving Rin...
-->'''Jonny''': [[spoiler: (slugs Vincent in the face)]] "Sorry. That just pissed me off."
* WideEyedIdealist: He is a downplayed example when compared to Toby, but he clearly believes in true love just as much and is determined to find a soulmate while his friends are either dragging their feet (Vincent), or are more interested in excitement and having multiple relationships (Orlando).

One of Jonny's workmates, Toby is the youngest member of the group and another regular at the bar. He looks up to his coworker and has a similar desire to find "the one" and get married. He's also quite the [[LikesOlderWomen cake eater]] and has a huge crush on Erica.
----
* AllMenArePerverts: He talks constantly about wanting to have fun with women.
* ButtMonkey: He's always picked on by his buddies, usually for being the youngest, for being a virgin, or for his shyness towards Erica.
* ChivalrousPervert: He's quite clearly a good guy at heart, although he's definitely one of the more perverted of them, proudly announcing his preference for older women and asking "What's so wrong with having some adult fun with someone older?"
* IntergenerationalFriendship: He's the youngest of the group by almost a decade.
* LikesOlderWomen: Rather unashamedly, too.
* NaiveNewcomer: He's much younger and less experienced than the rest of the group.
* NeverBareheaded: He wears a beanie all the time.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Red Oni to Jonny's Blue. He's a loud, active, bright-colour wearing {{Foil}} to Johnny's stoicism.

* BigOlEyebrows: A mild example, but her eyebrows are slightly thicker compared to other characters.
* FanserviceWithASmile: Her waitress outfit shows off quite a bit of leg [[MaleGaze and the camera occasionally angles itself so you can see down her top]].
* FieryRedhead: Erica is a natural redhead and is very outspoken about topics.
* FishOutOfWater: A small example: out of Vincent's friends, she is the only one [[spoiler:to at least get a feel of what's going on concerning the murders and Vincent's nightmare — which happened to be Boss's [[TheReveal about Catherine and why no one else but Vincent couldn't see her]]]].
* {{Foreshadowing}}: The gang drops quite a few hints that [[spoiler:she's UsefulNotes/{{transgender}}]] that Toby and many first-time players probably won't notice.
* TheHeart: A moral centre for TheTeam who tries to stop them getting depressed? Check. Mediates arguments and ensures that nobody falls out? Check. Encourages everyone to keep moving forward? Cheque, please!
* RedHerring: She fits a lot of the same criteria the mastermind behind the nightmares does (knows Vincent and has been close to him for a while), and see SignificantDoubleCasting below. There are also hints that she's the "witch" that's been cursing people. [[spoiler:It turns out she ''is'' the witch, but that has nothing to do with the nightmares: it was just an old childhood prank.]]
* SignificantDoubleCasting: Averted in both the Japanese and English dub in regards to Trisha. The only thing they share is a rather similar appearance.
* SobriquetSexSwitch: [[spoiler:She used to be called "Eric".]]
* TheTease: Especially so far as Toby is concerned.
* TransRelationshipTroubles: In one of the Katherine/Catherine/Rin relationship arcs in ''Full Body'', [[spoiler: Toby quit sleeping with her because he couldn't handle the fact that she was not only transgender but also "Eric back in high school". 361* DirtyOldMan: Erica complains that he's not going to stop hitting on her.
* DubNameChange: From "Master" in the Japanese version to "Boss". Done as you traditionally call the Barkeep in Japan "Master" out of respect, and calling him "Boss" is just a translation of how respectfully you're supposed to address them in Japan.
* EasilyForgiven: [[spoiler: Vincent doesn't hold it against Boss that he's canonically killed at least three men for petty, borderline SerialKiller reasons. In one ending Boss even gets to design Vincent and Katherine's wedding cake.]]
* EntertaininglyWrong: [[spoiler:When Vincent comes to him with questions about Catherine, he makes the mistake of assuming he's figured out that he was behind the Nightmares and blurts out too much before answering his question. This leads to Vincent finding that out as well.]]
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: The Japanese language track calls him Master, the traditional way of addressing the barkeep in Japan as he's the master of the bar you're in. The English dub changed it to Boss, but the meaning behind it is the same. So at the end of the day, he's still being called Barkeep.

One of the regulars at the Stray Sheep. He's a reporter, and is studying the mysterious deaths of young men in their sleep. During the Nightmare stages, he appears as the Sheep with Glasses, teaching climbing techniques that Vincent may find useful.
----
* ButYouWereThereAndYouAndYou: Eventually, he recognizes Vincent from the bar during the Nightmare.
* FelonyMisdemeanor: He's baffled as to why he's having nightmares, given that rumor has it they're caused by cheating and he's never cheated on anyone in his life. [[spoiler:It turns out he qualifies for them simply because his guilt complex has him stalling on getting engaged to his girlfriend.]]
* JustifiedTutorial: His climbing technique discussions are in order to help everyone involved escape from the Nightmares.
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:Justin once wrote an article about an impoverished ballerina who was looking for her big break. After the story was published, she became famous, but was tormented by rivals and ended up committing suicide after her family was murdered. He thinks the nightmares are punishing him for this, and plans on wishing the ballerina back to life if he reaches the Cathedral and the ballerina is the nightmare he faces each night.]]
* ShoutOut: To the ClassicCheatCode of ''VideoGame/{{Metroid}}''.

A businessman that frequents the Stray Sheep. He appears in the Nightmare as the Sheep with Regent Hair.
----
* AbusiveParents: His father constantly insulted, belittled, or neglected him, and even attacked him [[AxeCrazy with an axe]] at one point, leaving scars on Todd's body.
* AllMenArePerverts: Todd takes this attitude in stride, thinking it makes him a successful man, like his father.
* AnimalStereotypes: He works for a company called "Bantam Suits", and his pompadour gets compared to a rooster comb by Archie.
* BigBrotherMentor: Seems to think of himself as this toward Archie, most overt if he survives to Day 7. This flusters Archie, who isn't sure he even likes Todd.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Surviving the Nightmare helps him get better, though.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Unless he's a sheep.
* {{Foil}}: Todd is basically a more successful, yet less-committed Vincent.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's chauvanistic and a bit of an ass, but at least one of the other characters admits he's "good at looking out for people". Despite not getting along with Morgan, he stopped the latter's suicide attempt.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Normally appears with Archie, both in the bar and on the Nightmare landings. [[spoiler:If one dies in the Nightmares, the other will also be unsaveable.]]
* WellDoneSonGuy: He's desperate to become successful like his father. [[BrokenPedestal Unfortunately, that means being a womanizing, manipulative jerk.]]

* ArmorPiercingResponse: Vincent can give him one after he admits to his FreudianExcuse and DeathSeeker tendencies. When he finally admits that he [[IJustWantToBeNormal just wants to have a normal life]]…
-->'''Vincent''': See? You want to live.\
'''Archie''':... I'll climb. I'll climb... like there's no tomorrow.
* DeathSeeker: Due to a combination of guilt and burnout over his lifestyle. He sees himself as a BitchInSheepsClothing, and he feels like he's constantly on the run thanks to his background.
* TheEeyore: He's on the pessimistic, down-on-himself side, though he starts getting over it if he makes it past Night 6.
* GoldDigger: A male version. Archie seduces rich women, then makes off with as much money as he can.
* IWishedYouWereDead: His reaction if Todd dies in the Nightmare.
* NervousWreck: Understated. He's pretty level, if dry, in his appearances with Todd early in the game, but talk to him alone during the second half and it's obvious that the week's getting to him.
* StraightMan: Plays off of Todd this way when they're together in Stray Sheep sections.
* ThoseTwoGuys: He usually appears with Todd, both in and out of the Nightmare sequences. [[spoiler:If Todd doesn't last to the final day, neither will he.]]

----
* ArrangedMarriage: His parents force one onto him, to get him to break up with his poor girlfriend.
* CreepyDoll: Daniel's Nightmare monster is one of these, modeled after himself. It doesn't even chase after him. It represents how he feels he's being forced into the life his adoptive parents want for him, instead of the life he wants for himself.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Averted.
* GreenEyedMonster: Daniel envies Vincent's carefree life. It's a small case; bonus for actually having green eyes, too.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Tired of doing everything he does for the sake of meeting a standard.
-->'''Daniel''': I don't want "true freedom". I want ''normal'' freedom that everyone else has!
* StarcrossedLovers: He's been dating Anna, but his parents won't accept someone of her financial status for a daughter-in-law. If he survives the Nightmare, they end up eloping.
* UnknownRival: He claims to have spent life since graduating from high school trying to be more successful than Vincent. Vincent, for his part, barely even remembers him.

* TheBigGuy: He's fairly large and rotund, and this carries over to his sheep self.
* ButYouWereThereAndYouAndYou: Eventually, he recognizes Vincent from the bar during the Nightmare.
* ContrivedCoincidence: [[spoiler:In Rin's route's 9th day, he catches a purse snatcher that turns out to be the murderer he was looking for.]]
* DrivenToSuicide: Shortly after his wife was murdered. [[InterruptedSuicide Todd stopped him.]]
* LibationForTheDead: If he survives the Nightmare, Morgan swears off alcohol, instead promising to pour his last drink on Sophie's grave once he's caught her murderer. [[spoiler:After he does in Rin's route, he plans to retire to become a professional tennis player.]]
* PartingWordsRegret: The last time he saw his wife, they were having an argument, which culminated in Morgan telling her to "GetOut". He NeverGotToSayGoodbye.

* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Morgan. In fact, they both have a crush on him, too.

!Bosses
[[folder:In General]]
-->''"The (boss name) has appeared. It's the killer. Do not die."''
----
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: Each boss [[spoiler:(except for the last one)]] are nightmare creatures created from Vincent's fears and insecurities. They can't be reasoned with, never slow down in their pursuit, and don't stop until either they die or manage to kill Vincent. They exist only to punish him for his actions.
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: They're all gigantic compared to the player.
* AxCrazy: All of them, to different extents. We have a pair of hands armed with a giant fork that threatens to stab Vincent, a CreepyChild (armed with a ''chainsaw'' during the second encounter), a literal Bridezilla IceQueen, and more.
* BossWarningSiren: After an introduction cutscene, the title of the boss is announced.
* MirrorScare: Washing your face in the bathroom of the Stray Sheep will show a brief flash of that night's boss in the mirror.
* SuperPersistentPredator: As previously stated, a boss will only end its relentless pursuit if it either dies or accomplishes its goal.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Every boss monster has a demonic, distorted voice, although some are more noticable than others. It's more prominent in the Japanese version.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: Most of them say some variation of this to Vincent mid-chase.

[[folder:Fist of Grudge]]
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/catherine_fist.png]]
-->''"Take responsibility!"''

The first boss Vincent goes up against at the end of the Prison of Despair, the Fist of Grudge is a pair of twisted female arms with silver hair wrapped around each one, cracked blue nails, and wielding a giant bloodstained dessert fork as a weapon. She represents Vincent's fear of committing to Katherine and losing his personal freedom, which is echoed in her lines that focus on entrapment.
----
* CreepilyLongArms: Although it's hard to gauge how long they are compared to the rest of her body, since we don't see it. It's likely that there is no body at all and the arms are the entity itself.
* CreepyLongFingers: Goes hand in hand with the above.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Makes a brief appearance in the ending cutscene of the Underground Cemetery before being properly introduced in the next level.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: A dessert fork is a pretty strange, yet effective, stabbing tool.
* StarterVillain: The first of Vincent's fears that he faces in the Nightmare, and the simplest one to escape.
* WildHair: Whatever glimpse of her body we do get is just a shadowy mess of hair.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Immoral Beast]]
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/catherine_beast.png]]
-->''"Please... give me more!"''

The boss of the Torture Chamber, the Immoral Beast takes the form of a grotesque mishmash of four limbs, facial features, a large mouth with sharp teeth and elongated tongue, and presumably buttocks, altogether vaguely resembling the shape of a heart. An overtly sexualized creature with a female face (that has Catherine's blue eyes), this boss represents the affair that Vincent commits the night before with Catherine, as well as his feelings of guilt over it.
----
* BodyHorror: It's a giant butt with four limbs, eyes on its ass-cheeks and ''a mouth where its butthole should be''.
* DeathFromAbove: Its only attack, aside from lashing its tongue, is spraying hearts out of its mouth that rain down on Vincent soon after. They don't hurt him, but they do invert the controls for a while.
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: Or maybe they do. This thing doesn't exactly have a proper face.
* FanDisservice: A nude female torso would normally be pleasant to look at. [[BodyHorror Not this thing...]]
* HeartBeatDown: The aforementioned rain of hearts.
* TheImmodestOrgasm: A lot of the beast's vocalizations are unprompted sexual moans, and they only serve to make the creature even more unsettling.
* InterfaceScrew: The reverse controls it can cause.
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: Has a sharp set of chompers.
** VaginaDentata: Evokes this imagery.
* OddOrganUpTop: Zigzagged. It's a creature that crawls on its four weirdly angled limbs like a crab and has its conjoined buttocks as its head. It has an eye on each cheek, while the rest of its deformed facial features are on its "upper back," and a "[[VaginaDentata mouth]]" with an OverlyLongTongue sticking out.

[[folder:The Child]]
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/catherine_child.png]]
-->''"Don't leave me! Da-daddy!"''

The boss of the Inquisition, The Child is an undead baby symbolizing Vincent's fear of having a child of his own (due to the fact that he's seriously not ready to be a father yet), which is raised when Katherine tells him the day before that she may be pregnant. To Vincent, this Child exists to crush his freedom and life, chaining him to something he isn't ready for yet.
----
* CreepyChild: Vincent agrees with the player on this one.
-->[[SarcasmMode "Yeeeeah, that's not creepy at all!"]]
* EnfantTerrible: It's a giant killer baby!
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Its eyes begin glowing bright red as soon as Vincent starts to make his escape through the door.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Doom's Bride]]
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/catherine_bride.png]]
-->''"Apologize to me!"''

The boss of the Quadrangle and the second time Katherine appears in the Nightmares as one of Vincent's fears, Doom's Bride is a nude, emaciated, demonic version of Katherine wearing a wedding veil and wielding a cake knife. She represents the absolute certainty of marriage that Vincent is facing, feeling that all of his freedom has escaped, and that he has no choice but to marry the woman who is carrying his child. This monster also seems to be aware of the fact that Vincent is cheating, and verbally torments him over it. Thus, this monster also represents his fear of Katherine discovering the affair.
----
* BigNo: Screams this upon being defeated.
* BlowYouAway: Summons up a giant whirlwind that surrounds the tower towards the end of the fight.
* BreathWeapon: Her ice attack.
* {{Bridezilla}}: A ''very'' literal example. She's a giant, scornful nightmare projection of Katherine on her coming wedding day, out to kill Vincent for his infidelity.
* EvilLaugh: She lets out quite a few of these, especially in her introduction and ending.
* AnIcePerson: She can shoot ice out of her mouth and rain it down from the sky, causing Vincent to slip off the tower.
* PsychoKnifeNut: She's a giant imaginary version of Katherine who's been driven insane by Vincent's infidelity, and tries to kill him with a cake knife.
%%* RedEyesTakeWarning
* WomanScorned: Doom's Bride attacks Vincent for a multitude of reasons, his cheating being a major one.

[[folder:Child With a Chainsaw]]
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/catherine_chainsaw.png]]
-->''"Plaaaaay wiiith meeeeee!!!"''

The boss of the Clock Tower, The Child returns to Vincent's fears with disturbing modifications: a chainsaw for an arm, a pincer for the other arm, and a gatling gun in its mouth. The symbolism of the baby on the outside mixed with the grotesque inhuman construction lurking underneath represents Vincent's fear that the child Katherine is carrying [[MamasBabyPapasMaybe may belong]] to [[{{Cuckold}} another man]], Steve Delhomme.
----
* ArtificialLimbs: A chainsaw for one arm, and a robotic claw for another.
* BossArenaUrgency: It will regularly saw off two columns from the stage, reducing the maneuvering space you have. If you spend enough time on the stage, you can have as little as two columns by the time you reach the goal.
* CameBackStrong: When The Child is defeated for the first time, it can be seen falling down the tower rather than getting vaporized. It returns later in this form, and it is out for ''blood''.
* ChainsawGood: Its right arm and main weapon of choice. There are more blades in its left eye, and can summon automated saws to roll around the tower and attack Vincent.
* CreepyChild: Taken further compared to the regular version.
* {{Cyborg}}: A ''baby'' cyborg with robotic claws, a chainsaw (natch) and a mounted gun ''in its mouth''.
* EnfantTerrible: Just like before, except much worse this time around.
* EvilLaugh: Occasionally cackles at the havoc it's causing..
* FacialHorror: The normal baby face is just an outer shell that can open up. What lies underneath is not pretty...
* GatlingGood: A minigun is stored inside of its mouth.
* PowerPincers: Its left arm.
* TearsOfBlood: Appears to have a tear blood stain going down the left side of its face.
* TooManyMouths: Under the metal plating on the right side of its face, it's revealed to have a gnashing mouth ''in its eye socket''.

[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/catherine_shadow.png]]
-->''"There's no point in repenting now!"''

The boss of the Spiral Corridor. A giant version of Vincent Brooks clad completely in shadow, wearing a gleaming white mask that covers its entire face in a twisted smile. Only his yellow left eye is visible in the beginning. The Shadow of Vincent is the culmination of everything that Vincent is feeling, but is completely ashamed of: his obsession with not being tied down, even at the expense of the most important person in his life, of not taking responsibility for anything in his life, and of cheating. Though he is able to hide his feelings behind a mask, the higher he climbs, the more the mask breaks away.
----
* CastingAShadow: A being made of shadow that shrouds the Spiral Corridor in darkness towards the end of his boss encounter.
* EnemyWithin: To Vincent.
* EvilLaugh: Does this during his introduction as well as a few times in the ensuing battle.
* EvilSoundsDeep: His voice is much, much deeper than regular Vincent's.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Politely greets Vincent when they first meet, although it's clearly not genuine considering he immediately starts trying to kill the guy afterward.
-->'''Shadow of Vincent''': Vincent Brooks... How are you feeling?\
'''Vincent''': Who's there?\
'''Shadow of Vincent''': Who, you ask...? Someone you know all too well. Hahahaha!
* IAmAHumanitarian: [[spoiler:Poor, poor Steve...]]
* MaskOfSanity: Unlike the other monsters, this one starts off eerily calm. However, over the course of the chase, he continues to fail at killing Vincent, and the mask literally breaks apart as he's reduced to roaring and grunting at the end of the night.
* PowerFloats: One of two bosses that flies around the tower instead of climbing it.
* PrecisionFStrike: Notably the only boss to drop an F-Bomb on you.
-->''"Fucking liar."''
* ShadowArchetype: Of Vincent (literally).
* SlasherSmile: [[spoiler:After eating Steve]], Vincent's Shadow rises up to meet Vincent himself. After a brief pause, he flashes one of these. [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere It's enough to make Vincent rush through the exit door in terror.]]
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Only one is visible while he's wearing the mask, though.
* UseYourHead: The first attack he ever does? ''Headbutting a bunch of blocks off the tower!''
* WhiteMaskOfDoom: He wears a white mask with a creepy grin that breaks away later on. Its supernatural glow also becomes the only source of light when he turns out the lights.

A seemingly divine being that is the big brother of Rin. Despite what it may seem though, they are ''not'' an actual archangel. They are in fact, a group of pink, diminutive aliens.
----
* AngelicAliens: Their true form. The "Archangel" form was just a suit, and both humanity and the gods have viewed them as angels.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: He is violently protective of Rin, or rather ''all of them'' are this towards their youngest brother that they smother with love. To the point they were willing to cause the Earth to blow up than let their brother enter a relationship with Vincent if he didn’t challenge them.
* TheDreaded: Angels are terrifying enough to make Thomas Mutton/Dumuzid hide in sheer, utter terror from them, with even the demons of hell fearing them, despite them just being advanced alien lifeforms.
* RedHerring: It seems that Archangel is an angel, and so is Rin. They're not supernatural angels, they're aliens that act as angels. Archangel also calls Rin "Angel" as a nickname.

* SecretTestOfCharacter: [[spoiler:The Nightmares. It wasn't to weed out unworthy bad men; the real intent was to test their character and see if they can prove theirselves worthy of her affections. This is also why she keeps asking Vincent various questions regarding relationships at the confessionals as Astaroth. She's trying to see if her and Vincent would be a good fit.]]
* SignificantAnagram:
** Rearrange "Trisha" and you get [[spoiler:"Ishtar"; her true identity]].
** The original Japanese version of the game does something similar. When read in the Japanese naming order, "Ishida Ruu" winds up sounding similar to [[spoiler:イシュタル (Ishutaru); Ishtar's name when rendered in katakana.]]
* SignificantDoubleCasting: In the Japanese dub at least, she shares a voice actor with [[spoiler:her male avatar, Astaroth]].

[[folder:Paul]]
!!Paul Miller

A former classmate of Vincent's, and one of the first men claimed by the curse.
----
* TheCasanova: Remembered by his acquaintances and former classmates as a ladies' man. It's implied that his behavior led him to Catherine and the Nightmare.
* NightmareFace: He was found as a desiccated corpse, his face permanently stuck in agony.
* PosthumousCharacter: Dead by the time the game starts, killed by the Nightmare.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: His background as a ladies' man and his grisly fate sets off the events of the game, and almost leads Vincent to receiving his fate.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Merchant Sheep]]
!!Merchant Sheep

A sheep who appears on the Landings, selling useful items in exchange for Enigma Coins, which can be collected during stages or awarded at their end. Their primary purpose is as a scoring mechanic, but the Merchant Sheep believes that if he can collect enough, he can use them to buy his freedom.
-----
* AntiFrustrationFeatures: If you just can't get through a level, the Merchant Sheep's wares can give you a leg up. It'll hurt your score, but that's better than losing.
* DeathByMaterialism: [[spoiler:He eventually doesn't make it to the landings. In his place, you can see a sheep who tells you that the Merchant Sheep died when his bag of coins got too heavy for him to continue climbing.]]
* FatBastard: Downplayed, but he can get insulting if you talk to him and don't buy his things, and he's distinguished from the regular sheep by being much more rotund.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:He and Steve are the only sheep you meet who cannot be saved; he will always fall to his death offscreen and Steve will be eaten by Vincent's Shadow.]]
* MoneyFetish: He's absolutely obsessed with money, which is why he's willing to accept the Enigma Coins you find lying around as currency in exchange for items. He hopes to use the amassed dream fortune to buy his freedom from the nightmare. [[spoiler:It instead leads to his doom — the bag gets too heavy and he falls off the tower.]]
* NoNameGiven: He's the only non-generic sheep who doesn't have a counterpart that Vincent interacts with in the real world, and so we never learn his real name.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Golden Sheep]]
!!Golden Sheep

A sheep only appearing in ''Full Body'', named for his golden suit. A very rich man in real life. His real name is Abul Bahril.
----
* ArabOilSheikh: In real life, he was born into one, as he admits to Vincent. [[spoiler:It's especially evident with his real world self.]]
* IJustWantToBeNormal: He truly dislikes his wealth and the troubles it brings to him to where he wishes he could not be a human again in his next life.
* LonelyAtTheTop: He's an oil baron born into wealth as he confesses to Vincent, but he hasn't had anyone to trust after having many people use him. It's actually why he appreciates the Sheep with Scarf being brutally honest with him.
* OddFriendship: He forms one with the Sheep with Scarf despite being on completely different walks of life over a song [[spoiler:that was made by Roderick and his friend together]].
* TokenMinority: He has a Middle Eastern accent and matching headdress [[spoiler:and his real world self is indeed Middle Eastern.]]
* WanderingTheEarth: [[spoiler:After he escapes the Nightmare, he decides to go on a journey to take in new experiences.]]

!!Sheep with Scarf

A sheep only appearing in ''Full Body'', named for his scarf. A former musician and a cook for the Stray Sheep. His real name is Roderick Lockhart.
----
* BrutalHonesty: He's blunt with the Golden Sheep for being fat and his inability to sing. The Golden Sheep doesn't mind this though because he's the first person that has been upfront with him in ages.
* ICouldaBeenAContender: He blames his inability to become a musician on money [[spoiler:but it's actually subverted in his case. Roderick did have a good shot at being a professional musician, but used his father collapsing as an excuse to duck out because of his own doubts, despite his girlfriend and friend's pleas.]]
* JerkassRealization: [[spoiler:He realizes he's been using money and his family's restaurant as excuses for his own lack of conviction on why he couldn't make it as a musician after learning his recently deceased friend wished to sing with him one last time.]]
* OddFriendship: Forms one with Golden Sheep.

[[folder:Steve Delhomme]]
!!Steve
!!!Voice Actors: Creator/MasakiTerasoma (JP), Creator/DaveBMitchell (EN)

A man who accuses Vincent of stealing Catherine from him.
----
* AssholeVictim: Discussed. [[spoiler: After being consumed by shadow Vincent, the news announces that he had died in his sleep. According to one of the customers, he openly bragged about having an affair with Catherine and the customer lost all sympathy for him. However, Vincent knows that Steve was a victim of supernatural forces and deeply confused about Catherine and his wife's divorce.]]
* ButYouWereThereAndYouAndYou: He and Vincent both recognize each other (by voice) towards the end of the Nightmare.
* ChekhovsGun: After sleeping with Vincent, Catherine runs off to see the dentist. Steve's profession? Dentist.
* ChekhovsGunman: [[spoiler:He's the sheep who gave you tutorials on the first Nightmare.]]
* EvilPhone: Only at first, as he threatened to kill Vincent. Never follows through with it, however.
* GreenEyedMonster: Ends up consumed with jealousy against Vincent after Catherine confesses that she's been seeing him, and is desperate to win her back.
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:He's downright furious when his girlfriend runs off to "some young bastard", and yet ''he's'' the one cheating on his wife with said girl who is far younger than himself]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's cheating on his wife and apparently bragged about his affair to the entire neighborhood, but he does really love Catherine and is devastated when she leaves him. [[spoiler:He also takes the time to teach Vincent the ropes of the Nightmare, helping him survive.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Steve and the Merchant Sheep are the only ones who can't be saved. No matter what you do, the Merchant Sheep will die offscreen when his bag of coins gets too heavy for him, and Steve will encounter you near the end of the Vincent's Shadow boss level and get eaten in a cutscene.]]
* MauveShirt: [[spoiler:He plays a fairly significant role as the guy who teaches you the ropes of the nightmares, but sadly he doesn't make it to the end of them.]]
* OneSteveLimit: Literally. He's the only Steve in game. Vincent is actually surprised that neither of the K/Catherines claim to know anyone named Steve, given that it's a common name (okay, Katherine knows a friend's baby named Steve). [[spoiler:Catherine is lying. He, along with Vincent, is one of the people she pulled into the nightmares.]]
* RightInFrontOfMe: [[spoiler:From Nights Four to Seven, Vincent can speak to him, where he'll ramble on about his girlfriend being stolen by "some young bastard"... and because they look like sheep to each other, Steve is completely unaware that said "young bastard" is actually standing right in front of him. They don't recognize each other in the Nightmares until after the Seventh Night's boss]].
* SanitySlippage: First, Catherine leaves him, and Steve becomes desperate to win her back. ''Then'' he finds out that [[spoiler:she didn't really exist]].
* TookALevelInJerkass: [[spoiler:He starts off showing Vincent the ropes of the nightmare and generally being helpful, if blunt. Past the tutorial, though, he becomes increasingly more moody and self-centered as his jealousy starts getting the better of him and his affair with Catherine goes south.]]
* UnknownRival: [[spoiler:To Vincent. Steve is having an affair with Catherine, but she lets slip that she is more interested in Vincent. Vincent, on his part, is just confused and has no idea what Steve's talking about until they meet up in the Nightmares. It's also suspected that this was what the boss Shadow of Vincent meant to him — the masked being representing that he didn't know ''who'' this person unraveling his life was, and never met him in person, but Vincent cast his shadow on Steve's life anyway through his influence on Catherine. When he meets Vincent in the Nightmare, the mask finally breaks as he realizes who the mysterious man that Catherine loved really was.]]

[[folder:Sheep]]
!!Sheep

The various men who've been forced to climb the Tower. To everyone else in the Nightmare, they appear as sheep. This section is for the unnamed, undistinguished sheep populating the nightmares. All of them were brought there due to some issues with women, most often infidelity. They will occasionally climb on the same level as Vincent, where they are obstacles since two people can't be on one block at the same time.
-----
* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: What separates the named character sheep from the background sheep is that the sheep with roles in the story are this, while the minor sheep are not.
* AppearanceIsInTheEyeOfTheBeholder: They see themselves as people and everyone else, including the player as sheep.
* ArtificialStupidity: It's fairly easy to escape the enemy sheep in the Quadrangle. Just lure them onto a row of ice blocks and hang down — the sheep you're facing are the crazy ones, so they'll chase you and then slip right off the tower.
* EvilMakesYouMonstrous: Sheep who go crazy in the nightmares start deviating from the standard model more and more. In the final stages, they don't even look anything like sheep, or humans, any more.
* FurryLens: It's shown in-universe that they see themselves as human but eachother as sheep.
* HeManWomanHater: One gray sheep you can talk to is this. He thinks women exist to hold men down and one of the reasons he likes the nightmare is that everyone is male.
* SanitySlippage: The deadly nightmares they're having aren't good on the sanity. While most sheep just keep freaking out over their situation, some get worse. The gray sheep in the later levels have lost it so badly that they've embraced the Nightmare and started killing other sheep. [[spoiler:And in the real world, they've already died.]]

[[folder:The Mysterious Voice]]
!!Mysterious Voice

A strange voice that frequently tests Vincent's beliefs in the nightmares and asks him questions from the window of a confession booth before each level.
----
* CreepyChild: It is implied that he is young. Though how young is unknown.
* {{Genderbender}}: [[spoiler:He is a male avatar of the Goddess Ishtar.]]
* SignificantDoubleCasting:
** [[spoiler:Averted.]] [[Creator/YuriLowenthal He (quite obviously) shares a voice actor with Toby]] in the English version, [[spoiler:but they're not connected]].
** [[spoiler:It is used straight in the Japanese dub, as both Trisha/Ishtar and Astaroth were voiced by Junko Minagawa.]]

[[folder:Catherine's Father '''(UNMARKED SPOILERS)''']]
!!Nergal
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nergal.jpg]]

Catherine's father, the plenipotentiary of the netherworld. Despite what that may imply, he's actually more of a bumbling dad than anything else.
----
* BigNever: In Catherine's True Ending, when she tells him to give up and stop opposing her relationship with Vincent, he shouts, "NEVER!"
* BumblingDad: He comes off as fairly ridiculous, with one of his biggest failures is losing to a human wearing only his underwear and a random sword to topple his control of the netherworld.
* TheChewToy: He really only exists to be laughed at.
* TheDevilIsALoser: Big time. His attempts to talk Catherine out of seeing Vincent end with him getting a GroinAttack from her, and in the True Cheater ending, after getting overthrown, he's used as a throne. He's easily the least dangerous supernatural entity in the game.
* FantasticRacism: Implied towards humanity from his treatment of Vincent and his constant (attempted) dismissal of him as a "mere human". Thus, Vincent's dethroning of him was a great shock (and humilation) to him.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: His existence is barely hinted at in an optional phone conversation where Catherine yells at her father for interrupting her phone call; his reason for the interruption being that he wanted to play video games with Catherine.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: A non-boss example. He appears ''very'' late into the story and is only really used for a couple of cheap laughs. At best, his name explains how Catherine got involved in the plot in the first place, as in mythology, Nergal is the husband of Ereshkigal, who is the sister of Ishtar / Astaroth, who is the one backing Thomas Mutton in the game.
* GroinAttack: Is the victim of one courtesy of Catherine, who does it to stop his whining.
* HumiliationConga: The True Cheater Ending. He gets [[GroinAttack groin-attacked]], has his ParentalMarriageVeto overridden, gets dethroned as lord of Hell by a boxer-clad human (Vincent), and is used as a throne ''and'' forced to watch that same human woo his precious daughter. Whoof.
* LargeAndInCharge: He's physically the largest character in the game unless you count others going OneWingedAngel.
* LargeHam: It's Creator/JamiesonPrice. What did you expect?
* ParentalMarriageVeto: Is very opposed to Catherine dating Vincent, a mere human. Even after Vincent proves himself worthy (by dethroning him!), he's still opposed to the relationship.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Subverted. He has red eyes, and the leader of the netherworld, but he's really pathetic.
* UglyGuysHotDaughter: He's a fat, bearded devil. Catherine is his attractive succubus daughter
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Which becomes hilarious when mixed with standard BumblingDad lines.
