[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder: Yukimura and his 10 Braves]]
!!The Braves (In general)

* DysfunctionalFamily: A found family version, played for all the laughs it's worth.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: The Braves are an assortment of of {{Bunny Ears Lawyer}}s, orphans with nowhere else to turn, and people who flaunt convention as much as possible. "Oh great, another ''weirdo''," practically becomes Saizo's mantra as more and more Braves are acquired.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Not all of them like or agree with each other, which has repercussions in certain fights.
* TrueCompanions: Conflict-filled, violent, and deeply weird true companions, but like family to each other nonetheless.

!!Saizo Kirigakure - Brave of Light ☯
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saizo_kirigakure.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/DaisukeOno

* AttackReflector: His "Heaven's Return" technique.
* BashBrothers: Despite how much he hates Kamanosuke, they make the best pair when there's a need to unleash violence and havoc upon their enemies.
* {{BFS}} / BlackSwordsAreBetter: His Mari Blade.
* BrokenBird: His backstory makes clear that the aggressive, uncaring front he puts up stems from a fear of being thrown away one day by anyone he might devote himself to.
* CallingYourAttacks: "On, Marishi-ten Sowaka!", "Shunko!" "Ougi: Tenga Gaeshi" "Ninpou: Samidare!"
* CharacterDevelopment: In the start of the series he was aloof, uncaring, aggressive, and hated the thought of working under a lord/being a Brave, although a lot of this was based in a cynical attempt at self-protection. By the end, while not necessarily nice, he's far more gentle and calm, and openly admits to liking being a Brave. Kakei even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades it]] when they are drinking on Jinpachi's ship, noting that he has become more gentle.
* ChickMagnet: Though he attracts not only chicks. Look below.
* CurbStompBattle: Receives THREE from Hanzo, and another one from Sasuke in their second fight. Gives one to Kamanosuke.
* TheDeterminator: No matter how much he's crippled, he refuses to give up.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Kamanosuke certainly does. Hanzo's pretty touchy feely, and even Yukimura propositions him once.
* FlashStep: His "Shunko" technique. During his brief fight with [[spoiler: Anastasia]], he shows that he's capable of using a Flash Step without his Shunko, which is part of his "Hunter Falcons" technique.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Gets several ones on his body from his battles with Hanzo.
* HeroesPreferSwords: He's the only Brave with a sword as their primary weapon [[spoiler:until Hanzo joins up]], and of course he's the protagonist.
* ICallItVera: Calls his sword the "Mari Blade" after his goddess, Marishi-ten, whose name it bears.
* IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim: Is stopped by Isanami from killing Kamanosuke when he had the latter in a SwordOverHead position.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: His manner isn't nice, but his heart's in the right place. He tries to be edgier and more uncaring than he actually is. Really just a BrokenBird who's afraid of the vulnerability that comes with caring.
* LightIsNotGood: More of [[GoodIsNotNice light is not nice]]. Also, he dresses completely in black, and his sword is black too. [[spoiler: Carrying the essence of Marishi-ten, his task is to exorcise Isanami's darkness.]]
* LightningBruiser: He's one of the fastest on the team and hits pretty hard.
* OnlySaneMan: Divides this position with Rokuro, as amongst the braves, they are the most reasonable and down-to-earth ones. However, he's quite capable of having some fits of rage or bloodlust.
* PrettyBoy: His looks are commented on in-series, especially by Yukimura.
* RedBaron: "The Marishi-ten", "The undefeated one".
* RedEyesTakeWarning: He gets a moment of this during his fight with Kamanosuke.
* RuggedScar: He has a big one on the right side of his abdomen as well as several smaller ones throughout his shoulders and arms and some very long, deep ones on his back.
* TheRival: Views Sasuke and Hanzo as his rivals. The former reciprocates. The latter thinks that Saizo is too far below his level for him to consider Saizo a rival.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He's only averagely tall, but he makes up for it in dark and handsome.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Isanami and others in general. It's more pronounced in the early chapters/episodes and generally goes along with his acting like a jerk.
%% * VitriolicBestBuds: He and Sasuke.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: He's 19 but with enough life experience [[spoiler: to become the leader of the Braves at the end of the first series]].
* WorfEffect: He's thrashed around by Hanzo in his three battles with the man, and by Sasuke during his second fight with him.
* WorfHadTheFlu: During his second fight with Sasuke, he was thrashed mostly because was having a HeroicBSOD for failing to protect Isanami. Sasuke himself was only punching Saizo to get him out of it.

!!Isanami - Brave of Darkness ☯
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/isanami.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/RinaSato

* ACupAngst: Ironically she is far from being flat-chested. Too bad that other women in the series are [[WorldOfBuxom much better endowed.]]
* BigEater: Played for comedy. She eats more than the rest of the Braves combined.
* [[CantHoldHisLiquor Can't Hold Her Liquor]]: She's only had temple liquor for ritual purposes, so when challenged to a drinking competition, she gets wasted really fast.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Towards Saizo. She combines this with NoSenseOfPersonalSpace.
* CombatHandFan: She eventually learns this skill.
%%* DamselInDistress: Everybody wants that hairpin.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She is a sweet girl with a hairpin that protects her with the powers of darkness. [[spoiler: Subverted when it turns out the powers aren't from the hairpin, but the goddess Izanami. When Izanami takes over, dark is very much evil.]]
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: Her hair is dark green in the manga at first, but it's later recolored to cyan, and eventually settles on almost-white by the end of the first series. The anime goes with the last of these.
* FullFrontalAssault: [[spoiler: When Izanami is in control, she wears her robes open, leaving her entire front bare.]]
* GodInHumanForm: [[spoiler:She's the vessel for Izanami, a death goddess.]]
* ModestyShorts: Part of her unique outfit. She is a miko, after all.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Her darkness power is extensive and none-too-choosy about the victims in its radius.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: An early marker of her unusual powers.
* SurvivorsGuilt: Her weak spot.
* SweetTooth: Loves sweets with a passion, and tends to spend all their travel money on them to her teammates' despair.

!!UsefulNotes/SarutobiSasuke - Brave of Grass 🌿
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sasuke_sarutobi.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TetsuyaKakihara

* BadassBoast: Gives one to Oukatsu.
--> '''Sasuke''': ''The forest is my domain. Don't think you can go home alive.''
* TheBeastmaster: He was abandoned in a forest as a boy and RaisedByWolves before Yukimura found him. As a result he's deeply nurturing towards animals and they help him in his fights.
* BigNo: When Kamanosuke asks him permission to skin his weasel to use it as a scarf.
* CallingYourAttacks
* CurbStompBattle: While giving his GetAHoldOfYourselfMan / TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to Saizo, he and Saizo are fist-fighting. Sasuke downright thrashes Saizo around to prove his point. Also, his battle in the forest with Oukatsu is implied to be one.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Has orange hair and eyes.
* CutenessProximity: He's already friendly to animals, but when he meets Veronica, Jinpachi's panther, he's downright in love with her.
* FireForgedFriends: He and Saizo, though they wouldn't admit it.
* FriendlessBackground: He has trouble interacting with other people but loves animals and can be seen around them frequently. Makes sense actually since he was raised in a forest among them rather than with other people.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Comes with being TheBeastmaster
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Gives one to Saizo.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Grass means forest, forest means that he [[TheBeastmaster can ask every kind of animal for help]].
* HeroicBSOD: Gets a brief one after [[spoiler: Anastasia's betrayal]].
* HulkSpeak: His extremely broken grammar comes from being RaisedByWolves.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: Seems to have feelings for Isanami. But besides a few blushes, he never says anything about it.
* InSeriesNickname: Saizo calls him 'monkey' on regular basis, much to his annoyance.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's only really a jerk to Saizo and occasionally Ana thanks to the Iga-Koga ninja rivalry. When he gets around animals or innocent people like Isanami, his heart's all gold.
* NatureHero: Was abandoned in a forest and lived there until Yukimura recruited him. Still spends most of his time there.
* NiceGuy: Despite being a ninja who will kill at the drop of a hat to protect Ueda, Sasuke has a stronger sweet side than the others, something which draws criticism from opponents as [[spoiler:Anastasia explicitly states he is inexperienced and naive, while Okatsu derides him for only being a boy, and his hesitation almost gets him killed when he gets [[KissOfDeath kissed]] by Kaio]]. He's also has a few moments of TenderTears and is very gentle and caring towards his animal friends.
* RaisedByWolves: His parents abandoned him in a forest.
* ShrinkingViolet: Rare male example. He’s a very timid and meek guy who Yukimura commented on was way too shy.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Beautifully mixed with his GetAHoldOfYourselfMan speech.
* TheRival: Considers Saizo his rival. It's reciprocated.
* TerseTalker: Yukimura even comments that he has never heard Sasuke talk so much as when he was giving his speech to Saizo.
* UndyingLoyalty: He is deeply loyal to Yukimura, and the intensity of his desire to protect Ueda tends to awe others as they waver:
-->'''Saizo''': You don't ever falter, do you?
-->'''Sasuke''': Protect Sanada lands. Do not ever break one's word.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He and Saizo.
* WarriorTherapist: To Saizo, whenever the latter is having a HeroicBSOD, and even sometimes to Ana.
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: Controls "grass" according to Yukimura.

!!UsefulNotes/SanadaYukimura
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukimura_sanada.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa

* BrilliantButLazy: He gets the Braves to do all the heavy lifting for him in private and public matters, but his brilliance is unquestionable.
* CoatCape: Yukimura tends to wear his cloak in this way. It goes with his cool but elusive personality.
* CombatHandFan: When challenged to a sword dance, he opts to use his fan instead. It's also a marker of his Zhuge Liang-like strategems.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He cultivates this image carefully. He never really fights in the series, but when Masamune forces him to duel for a "show", Masamune uses a real katana while the only "weapon" Yukimura takes is his fan. He holds his own quite easily, even blocking one strike with his sandals, but plays up his clumsiness until the point Date tries to land a blow and he catches the carpet with his foot, falls flat on his back and uses the other to kick the sword out of Date's hand and send it flying within a hair's breadth of Tokugawa. He then plays it off as bumbling accident, though Tokugawa got the message loud and clear.
* DirtyOldMan: Combined with LovableSexManiac.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: He manages to draw in the largely male RagtagBunchOfMisfits that are the Braves with no promises of money or land or tangible gain, just the charm that comes with his mysterious but clearly genius nature. Even Jinpachi, who hates being chained to anything, talks about how compelling he is because he is so hard-to-read.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: He is the foolish sibling to Nobuyuki's responsible one, although he takes his responsibility to Ueda quite seriously.
* GeniusSlob: Rokuro's constantly on his case for dressing slovenly, not brushing his hair, and generally not conducting himself as a samurai ought to.
* GuileHero: He's intelligent and is very good at taking in the bigger picture, and using that knowledge to manipulate people into doing what he wants.
* HandsomeLech: He's always flirting with Ana and sneaking out to brothels and talking about how much he likes women, but he's not very successful as all of his efforts are foiled by Rokuro's interference.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: Rokuro has been serving as Yukimura's page since they were 10 and 16 respectively, and by the time the series starts they have full on settled into the nagging wife/lazy husband dynamic, to the point in the sequel Rokuro's dressed like a housewife and beating him with a broom while they argue in front of the kid.
* MessyHair: His is naturally wild. One {{Doujinshi}} by the author features Rokuro struggling to comb his hair out for the matches at the same time Komatsu does their brothers' hair, with the latter group snarking about Yukimura's untameable locks.
* MysteriousEmployer: Nearly all the Braves will cop to not knowing what goes on in his head, and he's very good at recruiting people without promising them anything in return, and he gets the Braves to move for him in matters where he needs to sit back.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: It's clear that he knows more than he lets on, that he's more powerful than it seems, and his cheerful persona is just a masquerade. Saizo openly criticizes him for it, but he just laughs it off. He's basically the [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Kisuke Urahara]] of the series.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: Rokuro challenges him to a game of shogi, trying to make a point. While that game ends rather abruptly with Yukimura shaking the gameboard and dislodging the pieces to make a counterpoint, Yukimura continues to use shogi metaphors to describe his plans for Ueda and the Braves, showing off his cleverness.
* TheStrategist: He's always considering the long-term future of Ueda and trying to manipulate things to ensure its peace and safety.
* WarriorPoet: Of all the samurai lords in the story, he has the biggest philosophical streak and spends a lot of his non-ObfuscatingStupidity time ruminating on war, power, morality and fate.

!!Unno Rokuro - Brave of Water 🌊
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rokuro_unno.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/HiroshiKamiya

* AloofBigBrother: Towards his twin, Nanakuma, as Rokuro is far less emotional than him. He doesn't hate Nanakuma like Nanakuma hates him but in reality Rokuro's cold stoicism only contributes to Nanakuma's insecurities and anger.
* BattleButler: He is a page rather than a butler, but fits this trope quite nicely.
* CainAndAbel: He and his twin, Nanakuma, although this mostly comes from Nanakuma's side, with Rokuro being an AloofBigBrother while Nanakuma knows he's TheUnfavorite.
* {{Determinator}}: He will not stay down when it comes time to protect his master and his kin, even if he has to start [[CastFromHitPoints casting from HP]].
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: It is made clear many times that men and women alike find him extremely attractive. Jinpachi's crew of pirates make it quite obvious that they would like him to get black out drunk.
--> '''Pirate''': Here, why not have some more, [[PrettyBoy beauty]]!?
--> '''Rokuro''': ''Why am I the only one with a bowl?''...Thanks...
--> '''Saizo''': (looks on) ''Rokuro sure is popular...''
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: He gets this the most often out of the cast. Kamanosuke calls him "page", Hanzo calls him "the handsome page", the farmer in Kudoyama calls him "the beautiful lad" and the pirates just call him "beauty." It seems to come down to [[BattleButler one]] of [[PrettyBoy two]] factors.
* EyepatchOfPower: His eyepatch covers up [[spoiler:the Water Crest eye, which records information and can extract memories. When it's stabbed out, he replaces it with the [[PowerCrystal God's Jewel]], another Unno inheritable, which can control water including people's [[BloodMagic blood]].]]
* EyeScream: He pierces his eye with [[spoiler: Anastasia]]'s blade when [[spoiler: she]] was trying to steal his eye, which contains valuable information.
* IngestingKnowledge: He can store information and memories by sucking them into his magic eye.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: He is the nagging wife to Yukimura's lazy lech of a husband. As he tells Saizo, being a faithful retainer does not mean not telling your lord when you disagree with him or his ways.
* MakingASplash: He is the Brave that controls water. However, his use of it is quite uncommon, as he mixes water with [[MakeMeWannaShout shouts]] to create waves that incapacitate his enemies. [[spoiler: Due to him using the powers of Tsukiyomi, he's able to manipulate water to such extent he can stop even Susano'o by manipulating the water in his body.]]
* NiceGuy: He can be irritable and snappish, but his heart's in a good place which sets him up for the TeamMom role.
** BewareTheNiceOnes: Nearly all of the Braves have learned this the hard way.
* OnlySaneMan: Shares this position with Saizo, possibly even more so. It comes with being the only Type A personality on the entire team.
* PrettyBoy: Extremely so, and noted in-universe.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: The dark hair/pale skin look goes along with his general bishonen features.
* SenselessSacrifice: In the anime he tries to do one to [[spoiler: slow down Isanami]]. Saizo stops him, though.
* TheStoic: He tends to show little expression and goes around getting things done quietly
** NotSoStoic: He smiles quite a few times in the series, and around Yukimura he's far more animated and snappish.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Hakama naturally have large gaps at the sides, which is why a long kimono is traditionally worn with them. Rokuro forgoes tradition and wears a crop top instead, resulting in an adventurous outfit for an experienced fighter to wear.
* TeamMom: He ends up falling into this position, keeping everyone in tea and in line (often forcefully), but always remaining [[OnlySaneMan rational]] and occasionally offering a pep talk to those who need them in his own way.
* TooMuchAlike: He and Nanakuma are {{tsundere}} twins with UndyingLoyalty, but that causes far more conflict between them.
* {{Tsundere}}: It runs in the family. He's sharp-tongued and quick-tempered, but occasionally Yukimura catches him offguard with unexpected praise, which gives rise to brief moments of deredere.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Yukimura. [[spoiler: Enough to sacrifice his eye so that the bad guys could not get the info contained on it.]] He eventually gets in a loyalty-off with his twin brother when a show match turns into a DuelToTheDeath to prove each serves his own master better.[[labelnote:*]]Nanakuma wins, in the sense that Yukimura [[WhatTheHellHero called forfeit on Rokuro's behalf]] because he ''was'' actually going to kill his twin to follow Yukimura's directive "not to lose to someone like Nanakuma."[[/labelnote]]
skill.

!!Anastasia - Brave of Ice ❄️
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anastasia.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/YuuAsakawa

* AnIcePerson: She is the Brave of Ice for a reason. As long as there's a water source nearby, she can freeze it into ice spears, ice walls and ice encasements.
* BerserkButton: Getting peeked on in bath, of course. [[spoiler:More seriously, her real one is ''family''. Due to her DarkAndTroubledPast, Ana hates the concept of 'family' and hanging around with the Braves angers her because she can't feel the same way. It's surprising that she manages to keep that CoolBigSis facade until her time of betrayal.]]
* CallingYourAttacks: She calls most of hers in Russian.
* ChildhoodFriends: She and Saizo. Saizo's friendship is one of the very few good experiences from her childhood, most likely.
* CombatStilettos: She has some nice heels that she puts to good use.
* CoolBigSis: She takes on this role toward Isanami [[spoiler:for awhile. She deconstructs that when she betrayed the team.]]
* DarkActionGirl: Great in a fight, but not necessarily on the heroes' side.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She was a little Russian girl who got stuck in Japan, with her parents dead in the middle of a snowstorm. Then the family heirloom got stolen, she was sold into sex slavery, and then trained as a Iga ninja. Then Hanzou appears with her heirloom and all the subsequent trauma of being with him made Ana a real cold kunoichi.]]
* DCupDistress: When Isanami [[ACupAngst complains that her chest is small]], Anastasia says that, for a kunoichi, being flat-chested is much more comfortable, but Isanami says that she should be proud of her size.
* ForcedIntoEvil: [[spoiler:Ana's deeply traumatic childhood followed by becoming a ninja and being forced to do nefarious things by Hanzou in order to retrieve her family heirloom all push her into her [[TheMole status]]. Although she maintains an IceQueen pretense and mocks the others for their naivete, deep down it's clearly hurting her.]]
* GoodBadGirl: More so in the manga than in the anime.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:In the sequel it's revealed Sasuke and Saizo captured her and brought her back for judgement, only for Yukimura to let her off and offer her to stay. Though she feels this is the cruelest thing he could do, she does remain in Ueda, if at a distance from the others, and serves faithfully until her death.]]
* IcyBlueEyes: Comes with being AnIcePerson.
* McNinja: A Russian princess who became a ninja after being shipwrecked in Japan.
* TheMole: [[spoiler:She works as part of the Iga Five.]]
* MsFanservice: [[PigeonholedVoiceActor Voiced by]] Creator/YuuAsakawa no less.
* SensualSlavs: She's Russian and a lot of her attention in-series relates to her foreign appearance + MsFanservice elements.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: In the manga, Saizo was amazed to see a golden-haired beauty bathing in a mountain stream and initially thought she was a spirit. Even when two thugs tackled her and started groping her, all he could do was ogle her and pinch back his nose-bleed. During the fight, he was totally surprised to find out that she's his childhood friend Ana.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her clothes are already skimpy, and she likes not to wear them.

!!Kakei Juzo - Brave of Metal 🔫
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kakei_juzou.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/RyotaroOkiayu

* ButtMonkey: He's always interfering in fights as the TeamDad between the more dramatic Braves, but often as not ends up knocked out by them or caught in the crossfire of [[TeamMom Rokuro's]] sonic blasts whenever he drops by to settle things.
* ColdSniper: Not really cold but rather obsessed with etiquette and good manners.
* CoolOldGuy: While at first Saizo dislikes Kakei for his obnoxious conservative attitude, they eventually develop a strong respect for each other. Saizo still refers to him as an old man, however, despite only being in his thirties.
* ExtraOreDinary: Is considered the Brave that uses "black iron".
* GoodOldWays: He is conservative and proper and unafraid to tell others how they ought to behave.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has a fashionable scar on his jaw.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Pulls one to save Rokuro at the end of ''[=Brave10 S=]''.]]
* ICallItVera: His musket Saaya. He is downright depressed when it's broken by Seikai. He recovers from it when the gun is fixed.
* InfinityPlusOneSword: [[spoiler: For the finale, he gets to wield a massive musket engraved with the seven-branched sword and blessed by Yatsunushi-no-Kami, which allows him to kill Izanami's hordes of [[CuteMonsterGirl Shikome]].]]
* NeverGetsDrunk: It comes in handy when dealing with Jinpachi.
* TeamDad: He's older, more conservative, and tends to vocally correct the misbehaviours of the Braves around him. Naturally he gets along quite well with the TeamMom, Rokuro, both of them being fairly orthodox people in a cast of eccentrics.
* WouldHitAGirl: He would but only after she immobilized, cut, molested and eventually tried to strangle him to death.

!!Yuri Kamanosuke - Brave of Wind 🎐
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuri_kamanosuke1.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/MotokiTakagi

* AmbiguousGenderIdentity: Yuri identifies as a man, and [[BerserkButton hates]] being [[DudeLooksLikeALady mistaken for]] a lady, but a few scenes imply that he might be FAAB.
* AntiHero: He's the TokenEvilTeammate among the Braves.
* AxCrazy: Kamanosuke's only really interested in blood, pain, and the thrill of the fight.
* BashBrothers: When he can get it together enough, he and Saizo make a pretty effective team, until the LeeroyJenkins factor kicks in.
* TheBerserker: Saizo calls him on it when they're fighting Hanzo.
* BladeOnARope: His weapon is a kusarigama. It consists of a sickle on a metal chain (kusari) with a heavy iron weight on the other end.
* BlowYouAway: His special technique involves his wind powers.
* BoisterousBruiser: He's loud and very passionate about fighting.
* BoisterousWeakling: While he's more than capable to wipe out mooks, Yuri is pretty bad at winning against stronger opponents. [[spoiler: After unlocking Amaterasu's wind, he has enough firepower to overcome Susano'o.]]
* CantHoldHisLiquor: Gets immediately drunk after taking up Jinpachi's drinking challenge and ends up flashing Saizo and Kakei.
* CrazyJealousGuy: He is extremely possessive over Saizo and picks fights with Isanami over their respective closeness to him.
* DeathSeeker: Begs Saizo to kill him when he was being held in a SwordOverHead position by Saizo.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Shows up after getting his ass kicked to save Saizo from being killed by Hanzo, and then joins the Braves.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: And he's annoyed when people remind him of it.
* EasilyForgiven: Isanami stops Saizo from killing him, claiming that she was fine and had forgiven him for beating the crap out of her, [[IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim and that if he killed him, he would be just like him.]]
* FlatEarthAtheist: Fitting his arrogant behaviour, he refuses to believe in Gods, unlike the devout Seikai. [[spoiler: This actually becomes important when he's found by Momo, Saizo's old master: under his tutelage, he learns to accept the presence of Gods in the nature surrounding him and manages to harness the powers of Amaterasu sealed in him.]]
* FragileSpeedster: He's fast, but he's not tough.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: He's AxCrazy, a LeeroyJenkins in most combat situations, and extremely loud and rude. Absolutely nobody on the team likes him, but he's a powerful fighter if not a good one, and they all put up with him despite the obnoxiousness. Ironically, it's these traits that make him a fan favourite.
* InLoveWithYourCarnage: Saizo's ruthlessness excites him more than anyone he's fought in his bandit days, and leads to him joining the Braves in the hopes of prolonging said excitement.
* LeeroyJenkins: He has absolutely no sense of strategy or the limits of his own power, and only ever wants to rush in headlong and kill as many people as possible. This makes him a constant liability in a fight, and more than once he gets [[HoistByHisOwnPetard caught in his own attacks]].
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Only gets annoyed by being slashed multiple times by Hanzo. Also, his preferred remedy for being covered in tiny blade wounds is to sleep and eat.
* MeaningfulName: The "kama " in '''Kama'''nosuke means "sickle". Guess what this guy's weapon is?
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: He constantly reminds the Braves he's not here to protect Ueda or for sentimental reasons, he just wants to die after fighting with Saizo and is searching for the right opportunity.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: His excuse for saving Saizo and joining the Braves.
* PrettyBoy: He uses it to his advantage to trick people into thinking he's a helpless woman in his bandit days.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Tries to give one to Saizo, claiming that Saizo was being held back because of Isanami. Saizo's answer?
--> '''Saizo''': "Shut up." (Cue CurbStompBattle)
* WorthyOpponent: Sees Saizo as this. [[UnknownRival Not really reciprocated.]]

!!Miyoshi Seikai Nyudo - Brave of Earth 🌏
[[quoteright:276:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miyoshi_seikai_nyudou.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KazunariTanaka

* BadassAndChildDuo: He and Benmaru are seen often together, with the latter usually riding in the former's shoulder, and while Benmaru is a capable fighter, Seikai is usually the one that does most of the damage.
* BaldHeadOfToughness: He's kind of a monk, so appropriately he is bald, but he's also TheBigGuy and [[SuperToughness nigh physically impervious]] to even blades.
* BeforeAndAfter: He was just another bishonen before getting his CharlesAtlasSuperpower.
* BoisterousBruiser: Loud, large, and fight-happy.
* BrainsAndBrawn: The dumb muscle to Benmaru's [[TheStrategist strategist]].
* CarryABigStick: When not using his fists, he uses his club.
* DumbMuscle: He is powerful, and has a good heart, but could not even charitably be considered intelligent.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: He creates a ruckus when he tries to dine and dash and ends up fighting the Braves. When Saizo finally finds his weakness and beats him, everyone learns he's Isanami's adoptive brother and he joins the team.
* DishingOutDirt: Can cause small earthquakes. Is also considered the Brave that controls earth.
* GentleGiant: When his temper has not been provoked, he's a nice DumbMuscle type.
* MightyGlacier: His battle strategy includes things like just standing there and let people hit him rather than parry.
* NoShirtLongJacket: His muscles are on constant display with this look.
* ReligiousBruiser: And also TokenReligiousTeammate, he often prays as he fights.
* SuperStrength: The aftershock of one of his techniques is enough to carve holes in a wall. A wall that was really far away from him. He is also capable of creating earthquakes.
* WarriorMonk: He's both a monk and a fighter.
* WhamLine: That he's Isanami's elder brother. Not a biological one, but still, it's pretty shocking.
* TheWorfEffect: Was knocked out effortlessly by Jinpachi to set Jinpachi's power level. Also, he could barely harm Byakugan for most of their fight. [[spoiler:Far more tragically, despite his CharlesAtlasSuperpower being NighInvulnerability, he is the first Brave to die in the sequel, setting the power level for Susanoo, a PhysicalGod.]]

!!Benmaru/Mochizuki Rokuro/[[spoiler:Sanada Daisuke]] - Brave of Fire 💣
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/benmaru1.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/IzumiKitta

* BadassAndChildDuo: He uses Seikai to test his new weapons on as Seikai's generally impervious to damage, and they often fight as a duo, compensating for each other's weaknesses (Seikai for Benmaru's short stature, and Benmaru for Seikai's stupidity).
* CreepyChild: He's more on the amoral side than most, and a genius with explosives.
* KidSamurai: He gave himself a last name because he wanted to be a samurai rather than just a poor orphan. [[spoiler:Eventually, he gets exactly what he wanted when Yukimura adopts him as his heir.]]
* MadBomber: He's good with the explosives and the traps, and doesn't worry too much about collateral.
* MeaningfulName: He was named Rokuro because he was the sixth child, which is probably why he was eventually abandoned. Despite the other Rokuro's protest, Yukimura gives him his childhood name, "Benmaru," which he uses until [[spoiler:Yukimura adopts him and renames him ''Sanada Daisuke''.]]
* OneSteveLimit: He was quite happy to abandon the name Rokuro to limit the confusion between him and Unno Rokuro.
* PlayingWithFire: He's considered the Brave that controls fire because of his bombs.
* TheStrategist: Yukimura recognizes Benmaru may even be a better strategist than him, which prompts him to invite him to join the Braves [[spoiler:and later leave the Braves to become his heir.]]
* TrapMaster: He sets up a DeathCourse which prompts Yukimura's invitation to join the Braves.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: Setting traps and bombing are not the healthiest hobbies that children should have.

!!Nezu Jinpachi - Brave of Lightning ⚡
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jinpachi_nezu.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KazuyaNakai

* ArtificialLimbs: Has a mechanical right hand. [[spoiler: Gets a better one infused with the powers of Takemikazuchi, the god of Thunder, before joining the final battle.]]
* BuxomBeautyStandard: His mindset. After he realizes [[DudeLooksLikeALady Kamanosuke]] is a dude, he complains that Kakei promised there was a woman on the team but when Isanami protests to say she is one, he mocks her for being too young and too flat-chested. His reason to join the Braves was because there's this busty blonde he's been told about...
* CoatCape: It gives him a certain pirate-y flair.
* CoolOldGuy: Another one in Saizo's estimation. Of course, he does not like being called "old".
* CurbStompBattle: His "battle" with Seikai ends very quickly, with the latter knocked out until the next day.
* LightningBruiser: Literally. Fast, extremely physically powerful, and has lightning as his element.
* [[NotInThisForYourRevolution Only In It For The Hottie]]: Agreed to help Kakei and eventually joins Yukimura so that he could meet a certain big-busted blonde. [[spoiler: And it's true. He eventually splits out of anger over Ana's treatment in the sequel, and while he does come BackForTheFinale, it seems after her death he leaves for good.]]
* NeverGetsDrunk: He challenges people to drink large quantities of sake to prove their worth, because he doesn't easily get drunk and he respects others who are similar aficinados.
* ShockAndAwe: His elemental power is lightning.
* SuperToughness: Blocked [[MightyGlacier Seikai]]'s strike with one hand.

!!UsefulNotes/HattoriHanzo - [[spoiler:Brave of Fire, Mk. II 🔥]]
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hanzo_hattori.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TakahiroSakurai

* AffablyEvil: Polite of speech and apparently really enjoys eating meals with others. You can irritate him past the affability, however.
* AxCrazy: When facing the Shikome, he just chop them to pieces and call them weak. When they reform, he decides to cut them into even smaller pieces.
* BadassBoast: Loves to boast about how he's more powerful than Saizo. Loves even more to prove it by crippling the guy.
* BraidsOfAction: He has a very long braid and he's the most deadly fighter in the series.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Take warning and all that. Also becomes quite fitting when you realize [[spoiler:his element is hellfire.]]
* CurbStompBattle: He gives THREE to Saizo, and another one to Kamanosuke.
* DeathOfAThousandCuts: His special technique.
* TheDragon: For Ieyasu, but he's the BigBad and TheLeader for the Five Iga ninjas, and the most immediate BigBad in the first manga.
* DualWielding: Wields two wakizashi.
* EvilRedhead: Only acting for money and personal gain, otherwise emotionally detached.
* FlashStep: Uses it at a master level.
* FlatCharacter: For a BigBad he has quite stereotypical motivations and very little personality. [[spoiler:More comes out in the sequel when he joins the heroes.]]
* GenreBlind: Thought he could control Kushimitama's power after releasing it. Oh boy, was he wrong.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:A ninja's gotta eat, and he's out of a job after the events of ''[=Brave10=]'', and it so happens Benmaru's position opened up.]]
* HeroKiller: He nearly killed Saizo during the three times they fought. However, he was always stopped by another person before he could do it.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard / EvilIsNotAToy: In the anime he is killed by the monster he himself released.
* LightningBruiser: Hits really hard. Takes a point-blank Shunko and survives. Is so fast that Saizo and Kamanosuke had trouble keeping up with him. Basically, the only reason he's not a GodModeSue[=/=]VillainSue is that he was beaten one time, and because [[spoiler:he died because of his own stupidity in the anime. In the manga, well...]].
* ManipulativeBastard: He's cunning and manipulates his opponents' and teammates' emotions alike to achieve his desired ends.
* NotTooDeadToSaveTheDay: [[spoiler:In the manga, he's still alive. Ana froze him in ice, but as soon as she left he got himself out using his hellfire technique. Everyone's pretty shocked when he suddenly shows up and saves Benmaru from kidnappers.]]
* PunchClockVillain: He doesn't hate the Braves or carry grudges. He's a ninja who does a job without personal investments, or so he claims.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He loves to give these to Saizo, but Isanami is not safe from it either.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: He is pretty damn evil.
* SuperSpeed: It's his selling point, after all. He's even nicknamed "The Speed" in Iga's League of 5.
* TokenEvilTeammate: [[spoiler:He's an even harder sell for the rest of the Braves than Kamanosuke in the sequel.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: When Saizo hits him in their second fight, Hanzo completely loses his shit.

!!Ichimaru and Niko
->Voiced by:

* BumblingHenchmanDuo: Especially in the anime, where they're even less than a threat. A comically inept duo of ninjas who are always together.
* ButtMonkey: They're often at the receiving end of comedic punishment and their employed Masamune shows them little respect, even when they do right (rewarding their only good job with a single pickled radish). When Niko was about to reveal himself to duel Benmaru, he falls victim to the latter's explosive trap, losing the match before even setting foot on the arena.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Niko is enamored with Ana's huge breasts, and would like to have his way with her. When Ichimaru, in a Omake, mentions that he likes petite girls, Niko calls him a lolicon.
* DiminishingVillainThreat: When they first appear they actually seem to be a serious threat. With each new appearence they become more and more useless.
* FacelessGoons: They are barely above EliteMooks and wear bandages (Niko) and a mask (Ichimaru) which cover their faces. They do remove them when not on the job.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: They live together in Oushu.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: A comically inept duo of ninjas who can invoke some sympathy.
* VillainsOutShopping: One chapter has them taking a break from their duties to assist to a show, stumbling in Isanami'd dance by chance. Later, during the Kyoto arc, they actually stumble in the Braves while they're off duty and have some tea with them.

!!Oukatsu
->Voiced by:

* AllWomenAreLustful: Oukatsu uses her ninja techniques to, essentially, paralyze Kakei and keeps him restrained so that she can simultaneously kill him and do dirty stuff to him.
* BattleStrip: She undresses before Kakei to show the scars on her breasts left from her encounter with Sasuke and remains half-naked [[DropDeadGorgeous until she's killed]]. This is censored in the anime.
* TheBeastmaster: Her Iga Ninpo skills allow her to summon and manipulates serpents of all sizes, including some turned into ActionBomb minions.
* BondVillainStupidity: Her slow DeathOfAThousandCuts she plans to inflict on Juuzo allows TheCavalry to arrive, distracting her, and allows Juuzo to recover enough to fight her off. Even though she restrains Juuzo again, he's not paralyzed anymore and kills her with his technique.
* GracefulLoser: When Kakei shoots through his own shoulder to mortally wound her, Oukatsu briefly laughs and [[WorthyOpponent praises his strength of will]] before dying with a faint smile. In the anime she still compliments Kakei, but dies with a sad look of regret instead.
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: Female example, she immobilizes Juzo, undresses and rubs against his body, using a tongue-mounted razor to slowly kill him while making suggesting comments and even groping his groin. The strict Juuzo isn't amused.
* InterplayOfSexAndViolence: Her method of killing Juzo after paralyzing him involves undressing and rub her voluptuos body over his while using a razor blade tied to her tongue to cut him.
* SnakesAreSexy: She's a sensual, buxom woman who can manipulate snakes.
* UnusualWeaponMounting: She has a sharp kunai mounted on the tip of her tongue.

!!UsefulNotes/DateMasamune
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/masamune_date.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TakehitoKoyasu

* {{BFS}}: He carries a massive one.
* BloodKnight: His main priorities are war, chaos and more war. He feels he was born for a more tumultuous time than the one he's in.
* TheDragon: He is this to Ieyasu because he thinks Ieyasu might get him the war he so badly wants.
* EyepatchOfPower: Naturally he has one as the One-eyed Dragon of Oshu.
* LargeHam: He's always spoiling for war, attempting to run away to be at the centre of action himself and is generally larger than life.
* RummageSaleReject: His Kyoto outfit is a fearsome thing to behold.

!!UsefulNotes/IshikawaGoemon
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goe1.jpg]]

* AlasPoorVillain: He's one of the more sympathetic Villains of the Week despite being just as amoral as the rest, perhaps because of the atmosphere of ''mono no aware'' that he invokes.
* CrosscastRole: In the stage show adaptation, he's played by Riona Tatemichi, a woman.
* DisguisedInDrag: Because he would have been killed if it were found out any Goemon ''sons'' were living, he starts living as a woman to deter rumours.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He's an unrepetent thief and murderer who does enjoy the thrill and glory of it, but also acts heavily out of love for Kojuro, who gave him shelter when he was being hunted and then a purpose for living.
* FlowerMotifs: Camellias are his. He was discovered hiding among the camellias by Kojuro and has loved them ever since. They are a flower that falls "purely", dropping all at once rather than petal by petal. It's both a metaphor for his swift fall for Kojuro, and his dying young and beautiful as he falls from the rooftop after battling Saizo.
* QuirkyMinibossSquad: He heads one as the ''ane'' of the Ishikawa gang.
* UndyingLoyalty: He lives only to be of use to Kojuro.
* UnsettlingGenderReveal: Saizo was surprised to learn he really was a man in the aftermath of the attack, as he dresses as a woman and refers to himself as one to conceal himself better after his father's execution.

!!Raizu
->Voiced by:

* IAmNotLeftHanded: Even when Kamanosuke breaks through his illusions, Raizu proves to be an incredibly dangerous opponent capable of employing other techniques.
* InTheHood: Befitting such a mysterious, illusion-spamming Ninja, he wears a hood.
* MasterOfIllusion: His strong suit is illusion, and he traps his victims in realistic illusions which make them lose consciousness.
* OhCrap: Has one alongside the others when he realizes that his techniques are useless against the secret weapon of Tokugawa Hidetada, [[spoiler: Susanowo]].
* ShipperOnDeck: Invoked, his greatest illusion involves an elaborated fantasy in which the receiver is, essentially, living a shipping fanfiction with the person he loves the most. Namely, Kamanosuke, [[AmbiguousGenderIdentity as a fair princess]] engaged to the prince "Saizo".
* ThisCannotBe: When Kamanosuke breaks free of his spell. After all, he doesn't want Saizo's embrace, he wants his blood.

!!Byakugan
->Voiced by:

* ActionGirl: One of the three girls of the Iga Five, she's the best hand-to-hand fighter.
* TheBrute: She's abnormally strong and though to the point that Seikai injures his own hands fighting her.
* DishingOutDirt: Her standard attack method consist in pulling out a piece of rock and throw it at her opponents.
* HulkingOut: She can grow even more muscle in combat.
* LaserGuidedKarma: She keeps mocking Seikai for his faith in the gods which aren't doing nothing to help him. She's defeated by a PowerFist named after a god, Hinokagutsuchi.
* NoSell: Her body is so though, Seikai shreds his hands by punching her.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: Seikai thinks the final blow was hard enough to vaporize her, but she returns alive and well in the sequel.
* PaperTalisman: She wears several paper talismans attached to her body, possibly the source of her powers.

!!Kayou
->Voiced by:

* AvengingTheVillain: She shows up with the intention of avenging her sister Oukatsu.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: While her sister was a snake user, she's a bug user who can use insects of all kinds, including oversized mantises and a humongous spider.
* DeathFromAbove: Her offensive jutsu has her jumping in the hair and summoning a rain of sharp spider hairs on her foes.
* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation: In the manga she is engulfed by a cloud of darkness and isn't seen again. In the anime she gets wrapped in poisonous vines and Kakei then executes her offscreen.
* GiantSpider: She makes her debut commanding a huge spider, just like her sister used a huge serpent.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: When she realizes that Isanami is releasing her destructive darkness, she opts out.
* MsFanservice: She's rather vampish and buxom like her sister.
* SlayingMantis: She summons a huge army of mantises the size of a small dog to attack the good guys.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She has purple hair and large breasts just like her sister Oukatsu. Were it not for the different clothing, you'd think they were the same person.

[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mitsunari.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/HikaruMidorikawa

* DoomedByCanon: As soon as the Battle of Sekigahara started looming, his fate was obviously sealed.
* TheFettered: He is this regarding honouring Toyotomi Hideyoshi and preventing the collapse of the nobility.
* ThoseTwoGuys: He and Kanetsugu are introduced gossiping together and make all of their appearances together after that [[spoiler:until his beheading]].

!!Kanetsugu Naoe
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kanetsugu.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/ShinichiroMiki

* GentlemanSnarker: Kanetsugu is extremely sharp-tongued toward everyone equally, offering backhanded compliments and politely-veiled insults indiscriminately.
* ManipulativeBastard: He plays on Uesugi's complete lack of cunning at times to smooth things over, despite his loyalty to him.
* PassiveAggressiveKombat: His forte, being quick-witted and vaguely disdainful towards everyone.
* SmugSnake: Disdainful with a smile.
* ThoseTwoGuys: He appears with Mitsunari in Kyoto and they are always seen together after that [[spoiler:until Mitsunari's death, at which point Kanetsugu makes his exit from the story.]]

!!Sanada Nobuyuki
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nobu3.png]]

* AloofBigBrother: He has elements of this towards Yukimura, being proud and disapproving.
* {{BFS}}: His odachi is massive.
* TheBigGuy: He breaks floorboards as he walks when he's in a rage.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: He's the responsible sibling to Yukimura's foolish one, although he doesn't give his brother enough credit.
* MessyHair: He has the same messy hair that Yukimura does although he maintains it better. Komatsu claims there's a satisfaction in being able to comb it down.
* NoIndoorVoice: He has a tendency to shout most of his dialogue.
* PerpetualFrowner: He never looks happy.
* {{Tsundere}}: Like his wife and page, he has a tendency towards arrogance and disdain, but deep down he really cares about his brother and the fortunes of their family, he just expresses it in unusual ways.

!!Unno Nanakuma[[labelnote:*]]Not really a historical figure, but he belongs with Nobuyuki and Komatsu[[/labelnote]]
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nana2_7.jpg]]

* BattleButler: A page to Nobuyuki, and his third fighter in the tournament arc.
* CainAndAbel: Nanakuma knows he's TheUnfavorite and that his parents only didn't kill him at birth because they weren't sure which twin would inherit the Water Crest eye. When it, and the God's Jewel, goes to Rokuro, he feels inferior, reinforced when Nobuyuki is unhappy to see the "superior" Rokuro choose to serve his brother instead. He's quite eager to prove himself as a [[UndyingLoyalty worthy page]], and is ready to kill Rokuro in a DuelToTheDeath in the tournament arc and take the God's Jewel for his own. The author notes Nanakuma has a major complex over his brother even though Rokuro [[AloofBigBrother doesn't really reciprocate or care]].
* MakingASplash: He has the same sonic techniques that his twin does.
* ScarsAreForever: He gets a long, deep slash from his sternum to his stomach from Fuuma, and forgoes baring his midriff from then on, covering up with a long black shirt underneath his usual clothes.
* SourOutsideSadInside: The mangaka outright calls him tsuntsun in her {{doujinshi}}. He's arrogant and proud, but also very insecure and desparate to prove himself.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: The same kimono-less hakama effect that applies to Rokuro applies here.
* TooMuchAlike: He and Rokuro are both {{tsundere}} twins with UndyingLoyalty, but that makes their relationship worse, not better.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Nobuyuki. He gets in a loyalty-off with Rokuro when a show match turns into a DuelToTheDeath to prove each serves his own master better.

!!Sanada Komatsu[[labelnote:*]]Sometimes known as Inahime or Komatsuhime[[/labelnote]]
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koma2.jpg]]

* GirlyBruiser: Her design is very girl-ish and she puts a lot of stock in propriety, but she's hot-tempered and arrogant like the rest of her family, and good with a spear.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She dishes a lot of shade at Ana and is every bit as arrogant as Nobuyuki and Nanakuma, but when Nanakuma is sliced open by Fuuma, she's greatly distressed and overcomes her disdain to ask Ana to take good care of him, and later begs her father [[spoiler:to spare Yukimura's life, as he's her brother-in-law, however poorly they get along.]]
* LadyOfWar: This is how she sees herself. Proper, graceful, and the best with a naginata. Her enthusiasm tips her closer towards GirlyBruiser at points, however.
* NaginatasAreFeminine: She is a master with the spear.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: Komatsu is ''tiny'' but a great fighter.

!!UsefulNotes/HondaTadakatsu

* TheDreaded: Being the strongest warrior the Tokugawa can muster, he strikes awe in everyone present. And [[CurbStompBattle he doesn't disappoint.]]
* NemeanSkinning: Rather than wearing an antler-bearing helmet, he wears a whole hood obtained from a deer's head, antlers and pelt included.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: When Nobuyuki begs him to spare the Sanada after the defeat of Ueda Castle, Tadakatsu decides to intercede with the Tokugawa to have them exiled to Kudoyama instead.
* SingleStrokeBattle: Undeterred by Seikai blocking the Tonbokiri with his chest, he takes him out with a single hit to the side of the head.
* SliceAndDiceSwordsmanship: Spear example, Seikai thinks he's fine if he can survive the spear's thrust, but a ''yari'' was made to slice as well, and Tadakatsu uses a sideways slash to take the brave out of commission.

!!UsefulNotes/FuumaKotaro

* ArmedLegs: Wears large blades on his greaves and two more on the soles of his shoes.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: Also two blades attached to his arms.
* KickTheDog: He nearly kills Nanakuma for nearly losing before.
* PsychoForHire: He's the most cruel and unhinged of the 10 warriors recruited by Nobuyuki.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: His entire torso and abdomen are bare, displaying his body to everyone.

!!Izumo no Okuni

* DanceBattler: She even challenges Isanami to a dance contest, but as she finds herself overwhelmed she throws some kunai at her.
* {{Foil}}: To Isanami: she's a dancing shrine maiden who claims to be from Izumo (much to Isanami's ire, as she thinks she's lying), is buxom rather than petite and takes pride in her dancing, though while Isanami is a [[NiceGuy Nice Girl]], Okuni is a BitchInSheepsClothing.
* SoreLoser: When Isanami proves better than her at dancing, she throws blade at her, only to be left in awe when Isanami, still dancing, is able to catch them with her fans.

!!Date Shigezane

* TheAce: Yukimura recognizes him as the strongest, most valuable soldier in the Date army.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has some jagged, rough scars on his face.

!!Oniniwa Tsunamoto

* TheDragon: He's often seen by Masamune's side and it's his most loyal retainer.
* DualWielding: To compensate the fact that he's using a smaller spear, he wields two of them in tandem.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: While he doesn't fight in the first series, he can be seen carrying a spear bag on his back.
* MaskPower: Playing on his nickname, he wears a Oni mask on the side of his head.

!!Nasu no Yoichi

* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: He's not the famous Nasu no Yoichi, but rather a descendant.
* RainOfArrows: He can have several arrows flying at the same time.

!!Mikogami Tenzen[[labelnote:*]]Real name, Ono Jiroemon Tadaaki[[/labelnote]]

* CurbStompBattle: Kamanosuke tries to kill him. Tenzen calmly shows him that he can't be killed by the likes of him.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Invokes this by fighting unarmed but stealing the opponent' weapon as it's about to land a hit, and then use it against them.
* MasterSwordsman: He's one of the two official teachers of the Tokugawa family (the other being Yagyu Munenori) and founder of the Onoha Ittoryu. He's so skilled he can confidently fight with his eyes closed, being able to fight back sensing the auras of enemies around him.
* MultiMeleeMaster: He's a swordsman but shows no trouble defeating his enemies with their own weapons.
* WorthyOpponent: When Saizo forces him to open his eyes, he recognizes him as an opponent worth fighting after all.
* YourEyesCanDeceiveYou: He fights with his eyes closed, sensing the movements and hostile intent of enemies around him to counterattack them.

!!Tokugawa Hidetada

* BadBoss: Kills his own men without a second thought and mistreats Nobuyuki despite his sound advice.
* TheBadGuyWins: Sort of, thank to him using [[spoiler: Susano'o]], Ueda falls, but he doesn't get Isanami like he would have wanted.
* HateSink: There's nothing remarkably likeable about him.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Calls his own father, the Shogun, a pig. When his adjutant scolds him for showing so little respect to Ieyasu, Hidetata claims that the officer, by proxy, called Ieyasu a pig and murders him.
* MadEye: Has a light eye and a darker eye, and looks unhinged.
* NoKillLikeOverkill: Ueda castle is resisting? Well, then, summon [[spoiler: the sealed god of storms!]].

!!Susano'o

* {{BFS}}: Wields a massive black sword with one hand and tremendous power, possibly the Kusanagi.
* TheDragon: [[spoiler: Becomes Izanami's loyal attack dog.]]
* TheDreaded: Apparently he was so strong even the other gods of the Heavenly Plains were afraid of him.
* HeroKiller: [[spoiler: Kills Seikai in front of Isanami.]]
* HotGod: Looks like a handsome youth with fair hair.
* TheJuggernaut: Once he's unleashed, nothing short of a reunion with his beloved mother will stop him. Not even the combined assault of the 10 Braves. [[spoiler: He's only defeated when Isanami sacrifices herself to reunite him with Izanami.]]
* MadGod: Hidetada mentions that he was banished from the Heavenly Plains, and all he can do is to search for his mother, crushing any obstacle in his way.
* MommasBoy: Tragic example, based on how, of the three sons of Isanagi, Susano'o was the only one who actually felt bad for his mother Izanami.
* NoSell: Raizu's illusion's are worthless against him.
* OneManArmy: He alone can deal more damage to Ueda than the entire Tokugawa army.
* PhysicalGod: A divine being who's not sealed like Izanami.
* SealedEvilInACan: Was locked up in a giant sarcophagus under Izumo. [[spoiler: Hidetada recovered the coffin and unleashed it as a weapon.]]
* SuperSmoke: He's surrounded by a mass of fog which he can freely manipulate to block attacks or to crush his opponents.
* TragicVillain: Susano'o is not really evil, he's just looking for his mother.
* TheWorfEffect: Makes the entire cast look powerless when he appears. [[spoiler: He's the quickly defeated by Kamanosuke and Rokuro using the combined powers of Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu.]]
