[[folder:Kurama]]

Originally the Nine-Tailed Fox, Kurama was thrown into a new timeline by his beloved jinchuuriki Naruto as part as a desperate LastStand against Kaguya. While Kurama is extremely heart-broken over watching his OnlyFriend die, he tries to live up to Naruto's teachings and be a kinder person.

* AffectionateNickname: To the young jinchuuriki, he's Kurama-nii (big bro Kurama).
** He also gives a pet name to every one of his charges: kit for Naruto, squirt for Gaara, sweetheart for Fuu and kitten for Yugito.
* AscendedExtra: He was originally a plot device to serve Naruto's purposes and rarely interacted with anyone else with the Naruto canon. The whole story of ''reverse'' is centered around him.
* TheAtoner: Part of his reason for taking Naruto is make up for orphaning him in the first place.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Naruto was the first person in a long time to treat Kurama as if he was a person.
** That's how he gains the loyalty and affection of the jinchuuriki: he only has to show them the slightest shred of decency and care and they are ready to jump into the fire for him. He finds it rather [[TearJerker heartbreaking.]]
* BecomingTheMask: Originally Kurama was trying to find the other jinchuuriki to find a place to hide Naruto, the one he only cared about. He grew to care about Gaara, Fuu and Yugito in their own rights when he sees that they are lost children with nowhere to go like Naruto.
* BerserkButton: Do NOT make fun or take lightly how jinchuuriki are considered and treated by the shinobi world. He's almost guaranteed to rip your face off.
** Also, he really, utterly loathes Uchiha for [[MindRape enslaving him via Sharingan]] again and again. He even says to Itachi that he would happily celebrate their destruction.
* CharacterDevelopment: From a demonic spirit fox hell-bent on hating everyone and their goldfish to a grumpy, {{Tsundere}} ally to the AllLovingHero pre-story. In story, he starts as a ShellShockedVeteran afflicted with PTSD and SurvivorsGuilt but then becomes a ParentalSubstitute JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Kurama inherited this trait from Naruto, as he will not leave people to suffer if he can do anything about it. Kurama refuses to give Naruto and the other young jinchuuriki back to suffer abuse and isolation in their villages, even if it means having Akatsuki and the Elemental Nations hunt him down.
* CombatPragmatist: Kurama fights dirty, and is quite happy to fight to kill with most of his enemies. Unless they are from the Leaf, or are brainwashed Jinchuuriki.
* ConvenientlyUnverifiableCoverStory: In order to explain why he wanted to get close to Naruto and his StrongFamilyResemblance, Kurama says that Naruto's mother Kushina was his half-sister. Which no can simply deny since the circumstantial evidence in favor of Kurama's claims are strong, nor verify since Kushina's home village Uzu was destroyed and Kushina was tight-lipped about her family when alive. [[spoiler: When Kushina is resurrected, she chooses to reinforce the story.]]
* CorneredRattlesnake: While Kurama tries not to kill them, when he is outnumbered by the Freak Squad, he tries EVERYTHING he can to escape them.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: He has red eyes and red hair.
* CutHisHeartOutWithASpoon: Kurama frequently threatens to eat people when they piss him off. Its joke with the children, very serious with the Freak Squad.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: He loses the Sage of Six Paths whom he saw as a father, mind-controlled by Madara Uchiha to be used as an attack dog. Then Mito seals him inside herself which imprisons him which results him being used as a power source and dehumanized. Which results in all of his siblings being imprisoned in jinchuriki after Hashirama learned what power Kurama gave to Mito. Mito continues Kurama's imprisonment and dehumanization when she passes the possession to Kushina. He's mind-controlled by Tobi the one chance he gets to escape to destroy Konoha and re-sealed into Naruto. Naruto becomes his only friend and the only jinchuriki to bother to learn his name only to lose Naruto and his siblings at the hands of Akatsuki and Kaguya. He had a rather rough life.
* DontYouDarePityMe: He almost rips a new asshole to Kakashi for giving him money, and the shinobi has to insist it was only him giving Kurama his due for helping him on the mission.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He's a giant demon-turned human and even he's creeped out by Itachi.
** He's also disturbed by Tobi's ObfuscatingStupidity act, because he can ''feel'' the Uchiha's hatred and malice, and the gap between Tobi's behaviour and his mental state makes him outright ill at ease.
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: People would think the unknown tenth jinchuuriki would be a lot more fearsome than the short grumpy man Kurama is.
** The foxes are very relieved that Kurama is nowhere near as vicious as he is in their stories. Once they find about the other nine-tailed fox, they admit to their relief of meeting him first.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: By the time the story began, he was already hundreds of years old and fought on the losing side of an apocalypse.
* FatalFlaw: Kurama is very impulsive often to his detriment. He makes life-altering decisions on impulse, and often thinks with his heart as opposed to his head, such as taking the abused jinchuuriki from their respective villages, and earning the ire of all of said villages as a result.
* FemmeFatalons: He has claws hard enough to scrape porcelain and tear flesh.
* FiveStagesOfGrief: Kurama is stuck between anger at Kaguya (for inflicting his suffering) and Naruto (for dying), and depression at having to watch Naruto die and [[SurvivorsGuilt for surviving]].
* {{Foil}}: To Kakashi. Both were traumatized by their loved ones' brutal death, but Kakashi sunk into depression while Kurama chose to focus on what he still had and get better as a result.
** On the flip side, they're also foils in how they react to Naruto. Kakashi can't bear to spend any time caring for his sensei's son while Kurama, who rightly struggled with interacting with the younger self of the friend he lost, ultimately can't help but want to give Naruto everything he was missing.
* FieryRedhead: Kurama has an ATROCIOUS temper, especially when he feels pitied or belittled.
* FriendToAllChildren: Especially abused kids. He would never acknowledge it, but give him a crying child to coo over and he will crumple.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: For the Elemental Nations, Uzumaki Kurama was a homeless ShellShockedVeteran from a wiped bloodline and destroyed country. Then he started to kidnap living weapons of mass destruction left and right, majorly disturbing the balance of power between the villages and almost igniting a world war. He quickly has most of the Great Nations after his head.
* GodInHumanForm: The fox summons worship him as the being who gave them sapience and power. However, it's hinted they are very much aware of his malevolent instincts, as Fuji expresses his relief to see that Kurama is ''not at all'' as described in the stories.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: Kakashi’s Rakiri pierces the bottom of Kurama's lung and goes through his back. For anyone else, this would be lethal. After a bit of pain, Kurama quite literally ''runs'' it off.
* HumanoidAbomination: A malevolent-based, ancient spirit fox possessing his former host's body, you can't find more freaky with a rather distinct aura.
* TheHeart: He brings the jinchuuriki together by reminding them they are people too, and can find a family in each other by virtue of [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer sharing the same painful experience of humanity's bigotry.]] Because of his kindness, the jinchurikis would fight the Elemental Nations themselves for him.
* HeartbrokenBadass: He saw his whole timeline destroyed by a power hungry goddess and survived only because his OnlyFriend sacrificed himself to send him into the past. It left Kurama suffering from PTSD and SurvivorsGuilt, but he '''won't''' let this stop him to ScrewDestiny and save Naruto.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: He still considers himself as the bringer of calamity and despair, only trapped in human form. He's genuinely baffled when Roushi reveals how much he's loyal to ''him'', because he sees his rescuing and protection of the jinchurikis as him following what Naruto would have wanted and not as him being personally nice.
* ImportantHaircut: Kurama cuts his waist length hair short once he finally what he looks like in Naruto’s body.
* InnocentFanserviceGuy: Gave Roushi an eyeful when he comes out of the shower to ask for a knife to cut his hair with. He doesn't even realize the sexual undertones of it until Roushi points it out.
* {{Irony}}: The Nine Tailed Fox, bringer of calamity and misfortune, fully admitting he's wicked and monstrous through and through, is a far more loving and heroic person than the designated good guys.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's grumpy, bitter and ill-tempered, and it's strongly implied he was this way even before being forced to witness the destruction of his timeline. If you are one of his precious people however, he '''will''' love you, care for you and fight for you beyond all that's reasonable.
* KnightInSourArmor: Kurama is a long-lived demon once made of malice and who despises humanity. Even when Naruto helped Kurama find good in himself, Kurama ended up the SoleSurvivor of his siblings and Naruto as the world ended and Kurama sent to the past. Despite being broken by grief and thinking humanity is terrible, Kurama will fight in Naruto's memory and go against the whole world to protect the now young jinchuuriki.
* LifeEnergy: Kurama has a rather distinct chakra so anyone that knows how his chakra feels, knows immediately who he is when they meet him. His siblings all immediately can tell that it's him, Kakashi realizes who Kurama actually is once he feels it [[spoiler: and Kushina immediately understands that her "brother" is Kurama.]]
* LiteralMetaphor: He threaten to eat Shisui and means it much to Shisui's terror.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: At first, Kurama's purpose was to protect Naruto and ensure a better future for him and the rest of the world could burn. He's slowly growing out of it as he becomes a father figure to the younger jinchuuriki.
* LockedIntoStrangeness: Kurama's possession of the late Naruto's body darkened the skin and turned Naruto's blonde hair into a blood red. Downplayed as it makes everyone think that Kurama is an Uzumaki with Kumo heritage.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Because he has been running and avoiding all ninja if possible, he has no idea until he meets the Kiri rebels that his actions are borderline triggering a world war.
* LongLostRelative: He plays himself as Kushina's secret half-sibling and Naruto's long lost maternal uncle. [[spoiler: When Kushina comes back to life, she quickly realizes he is the Kyuubi in human form, but since she knows how much he has done to help Naruto, she basically adopts him as her brother, and acts it up in front of everybody else.]]
* LovedByAll: He is adored and respected by his fellow jinchuuriki, with the possible exception of Killer Bee.
* {{Nephewism}}: He claims to be Naruto's uncle when he meets him. Konoha is unable to dismiss this as a lie because due to overwhelming circumstantial evidence, meaning that they cannot legally keep him away from Naruto.
* TheNicknamer: He frequently calls people by nicknames. See AffectionateNickname for what he calls the jinchuuriki children. Of course he hates the nicknames others call him.
** He calls Kakashi's tracker team the Freak Squad.
** He call Zabuza fishface.
** He calls his siblings many derogatory nicknames.
* NoSocialSkills: While he's good with children, he doesn't seem to get that having blood-covered clothes will make people distrust him.
* OhMyGods: He swears by the Sage, saying By the Sage! Oh Sage! Sage damn it!
* OnlySaneMan: Its very telling that the HumanoidAbomination is the grounded one of the bunch.
* ParentalSubstitute: To the young jinchuuriki who plain adore and worship him. Firmly cemented as this when Naruto refuses to believe [[spoiler: Sakumo]] is [[spoiler: Kakashi's]] father, as he doesn't behave like Kurama.
* PeggySue: Kurama is from a doomed timeline where Kaguya won and humanity died.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's not as short as Roushi but his friends and children like to tease him on his height.
* PlayingWithFire[=/=]BlowYouAway: It's basically a prerequisite for him to be skilled in fire-manipulation, being a ''[[AsianFoxSpirit kitsune]]''. He even declares himself a god of wind and fire.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Very appropriate for a bitter survivor who will lash out against everything threatening his loved ones.
* {{Revenge}}: He wants to take revenge against Akatsuki and Kaguya.
* ScrewDestiny: As Kurama says, it didn't work the first time so why repeat it?
* SharedFamilyQuirks: He's reckless to a fault and hates being pitied, as Kushina was. Also, the Hokage remarks that Uzumaki in general tend to cause trouble.
* ShellShockedVeteran: Kurama has violent flashbacks, a heaping amount of SurvivorsGuilt after having watched the world literally died, be the only of his siblings to survive and despite all attempts outliving his best friend Naruto.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Inhabiting the adult Naruto's body gives him the Uzumaki bone structure. Add his red hair to this and he easily passes as Kushina's brother.
* SureLetsGoWithThat: [[spoiler:He doesn't correct Kushina when she assumes he's actually the other half of the Kyuubi's chakra incarnated in human form. Of course time travel is tough to explain.]]
* TeamMom: Kurama is a gruff but affectionate maternal figure to the younger jinchuuriki and tries to care and provide for them while trying to find a safe place for them. Called their mother on more than one occassion.
* TheExtremistWasRight: Kurama is initially seen as a terrorist by the Elemental Nations as he kidnapped the child jinchuuriki and got the adult jinchuuriki in order to train them to full potential and protect them. But when its revealed the dangerous terrorist Akatsuki has been after the jinchuuriki for their plans for world domination, [[spoiler: the Kages quickly change their tune and give Kurama a full pardon for his crimes.]]
* TheKindnapper: He's kidnapping the young jinchuuriki from their abusive villages who can't protect them from the evil and powerful Akatsuki.
* TheSpook: Kurama Uzumaki is this the Elemental Nations as the only things they know about him is what Kurama told them. Which they have no way of verifying. Everything else is theory at best.
* TooCleverByHalf: Kurama prides himself in his cleverness and cunning which he is by spades. But his ChronicHeroSyndrome and impulsiveness has led him deeper and deeper into trouble.
* TookALevelInKindness: He was originally demon fueled by malice and hatred, but thanks to Naruto he learned love and kindness and grows enough as a person to give to others.
* UnreliableExpositor: When he tells Naruto about his parents, he paints [[TheAce Minato]] as an unreliable and gullible ditz.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He's almost freaking out when Shisui prepares to use his Sharingan on him. {{Justified}} when you remember how the Uchiha treated him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Freak Squad]]

!Tropes relating to Freak Squad
* AllForNothing: Weeks of fruitless chase across seven countries, [[spoiler:wasted by the fact that Kurama was pardoned.]]
* AtrociousAlias: Kurama gave them the moniker "Freak Squad" due to his collective hatred for all of them.
* {{Determinator}}: They don't care if they haven't rested in days and have go to several countries, they will find Kurama and take Naruto back to Konoha.
* GoodVersusGood: They're trackers trying to rescue a kidnapped children or pursuers trying to rip children away from the one person willing to free them from abusive situations.
* OhCrap: Are appropriately horrified when they find themselves in a fight with not one, but ''two'' adult jinchuuriki, both used to fighting together. Not only were Han and Roushi out to kill them, they made it perfectly clear that two more jinchuuriki had pledged themselves to Kurama's cause. As far these four were concerned, they were lucky to escape with their lives.
* ScarilyCompetentTracker: Kurama has Fuji cast illusions that separate them and lead them on a wild goose chase to two separate countries and they still find him again twice.
* SympatheticInspectorAntagonist: They're Konoha's best trackers trying to track down a serial kidnapper while fully aware that the children that Kurama is kidnapping are better off with him. If Kurama was anyone else, they would have captured him. They nearly did capture him on Day One of the chase but Kurama is far more clever and desperate than they are and he has powerful assistance in the Foxes.

! Kakashi Hakate
* BrainBleach: He does NOT want to imagine Tenzo and Shisui in a relationship, thank you very much.
* GoodVersusGood: He's the dedicated ninja pursuing an unknown shinobi responsible for abducting a little kid. On the other side, the kidnapper is related to the kid, and treats him much more decently than the village itself.
* HeroicBSOD: He's stuck in this state since Minato and Kushina's death.
** [[spoiler:It gets worse when he learns that Kurama is actually the Nine Tailed Fox, meaning that the ''demon'' who ruined his life and destroyed his village is a more compassionate and heroic person than ''him''.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: His crowning moment comes when Shisui suggests him to see the retrieval mission as an occasion to bond with Naruto. Sure, let's do that after injuring and mind-raping the only person to show love to the kid in front of him and dragging them back to a village which systematically treated him as a hated outcast. Such a great first impression on which to build a relationship, huh?
* HeelRealization: Over the course of the chase, he's starting to realize how poorly the jinchuuriki are treated and begins to wonder if Kurama had a point.
* HyperAwareness: Kakashi immediately finds the cracks in Kurama's identity when Kurama casually discusses Kakashi's ninken when Kurama has never introduced to them. Then he forces Kurama to confess to how he got his body when Kurama tried to not discuss whether there was more Uzumaki in the BadFuture.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: He perfectly knows that Naruto would be better raised by a maternal blood relative who visibly adores him, he also knows that Kurama is quite decent, but he can't let the Kyubi jinchuuriki with an unknown shinobi.
* MortonsFork: If he lets Kurama escape with Naruto, he ensures that his sensei's son will be raised by a loving blood relative and Konoha will be weakened by their jinchuriki's absence. If he brings them back to the village, he gives Naruto a justified reason to resent Konoha by ripping him away from his uncle to force him back into a neglectful and hateful village. And he knows it.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: His reaction to Kurama hugging Naruto is to brutally rip them away and refusing to hear Kurama's pleas to reconsider, which pushes Kurama to lose his shit, kidnap Naruto and go on the run.
* OnlySaneMan: Between [[TheGadfly Shisui]], [[CreepyChild Itachi]] and [[{{Fanboy}} Tenzo]], he's this. Poor thing often wonders if he was a genocidal villain in a previous life to deserve such a team.
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler: He gets Kurama the truth of his origins so he knows Kurama is from the future, is the Nine-Tailed Fox and is wearing the adult Naruto's body.]]
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler: When the Akatsuki lair starts to crumble, he jumps to protect Kurama from harm. When Kurama chews him out for this, he admits [[{{Tearjerker}} it was an automatic reflex born of his experience with cave-ins]].]]
* WhatTheHellHero: Kurama violently accuses him to be too mired in depression and self-loathing to care about his sensei's son, who is cruelly neglected and shunned by a whole village.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Proximity with children really disturbs him. Ask him to hold a kid or - God forbid - to care for one, and he will run away for the hills.

! Shisui Uchiha
* AlmightyMom: His mother is apparently the only person able to control him, and unfortunately for him, she seems to like Tenzo.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's extremely silly and cheerful but he's one powerful shinobi with a technique specializing in MindRape.
* ComicRelief: His arguing with Tenzo brings a lot of levity to the situation.
* ClingyJealousGirl: He tends to get more cutting with his insults when Tenzo squees over Kakashi.
* TheGadfly: He shamelessly needles and trolls people, especially Tenzo.
* ManChild: An endearing variant as he's a competent shinobi, but is childish enough to get into fights with six-year old Sasuke and brings optimism and cheer to an otherwise gloomy team.
* MindRape: His Sharingan's special ability. He intends to use it to force Kurama to come back to Konoha, and almost succeeds.
* NiceGuy: He has no problem with Kurama deciding by himself to come back to Konoha and thinks it would be cruel to keep him apart from Naruto, saying that the Hokage wouldn't separate family members from each other.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He's perfectly able of sound reasoning... But he enjoys so much playing the fool then watching his relatives' utter confusion when he's promoted.
* OCStandIn: His personality is made up whole cloth to stand on his own without Itachi.
* OhCrap: For good reason he is highly disturbed by [[spoiler: Zetsu's interest in him. Followed by it again when to save Obito's life he had to stab him in the heart, and then found himself confronted by a vengeful Kisame who thought he had killed him.]]
* PowerIsSexy: The more powerful a shinobi, the more attractive Shisui tends to find them. He's really annoyed with himself that he still finds Kurama hot despite how terrifying he is.
* SitcomArchNemesis: Kurama hates him and would blame him no matter how irrational.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Tenzo.
* {{Tsundere}}: Despite his sweet personality, he frequently makes fun of the rigid Tenzo, whom he's crushing on.
* TooDumbToLive: What Kakashi thinks of him deciding to prank [[spoiler: Kurama. Made worse by the fact Kakashi now knows exactly who Kurama is.]]

! Tenzo
* TheGadfly: He gives Shisui back, often pranking him and trolling him back.
* GreenThumb: His Mokuton grants him control of wood and earth.
* KryptoniteFactor: His Mokuton is one of the few things that can trap a biju.
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: If you believe Shisui, he's that for Kakashi.
* OCStandIn: He's essentially one to make him stand on his own and make him a more interesting character.
* OhCrap: For good reason he is highly disturbed by [[spoiler:Zetsu's interest in him.]]
* StraightMan: To Shisui's shenanigans.
* StrangeMindsThinkAlike: He thinks more like Shisui more than he would want to admit as seen when he's reasoning with Shisui to stop him from picking a fight with Kurama.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He and Shisui works very well together. Not that you would guess it after listening them bickering like kids.

! Itachi Uchiha
* CreepyChild: He's a ten-year-old ANBU and suffers from a disturbing habit to see people as things when they're not related to him. ''[[HumanoidAbomination Kurama]]'' is freaked out by this, and Tsunade comments that even ''Orochimaru'' was better adjusted than Itachi was.
* FatalFlaw: Itachi has extreme tunnel vision and is not got at looking at different perspectives to a problem.
* HeelRealization: He decides to quit the ANBU when Kurama asks him which he would choose between his family and his village, and he realizes that he's uncertain about his answer.
* NoSocialSkills: He's no slouch when he has to pretend to be normal, but he utterly ''fails'' to understand normal people's motivations. He can interact with people but it's more akin to undercover agent rather than a ten year old.
* NotSoStoic: Even he is unable to stand Shisui and Tenzo's bickering.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kurama's children]]

!Tropes relating to all the Jinchuuriki
* ChangelingFantasy: For the young jinchuuriki, Kurama is someone who is like them who rescues them from their abusive and neglectful villages to be part of a loving family and part of a massive adventure. To Naruto, Kurama has the added bonus of being the loving blood relative that he dreamed of having.
* ElephantInTheLivingRoom: None of them have asked how does Kurama know their biju and how he knows so much about the jinchuuriki. To be fair, none of them have the time to ask since all of the running away from Akatsuki and the Elemental Nations started and before that, they were too caught up in [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe someone caring about them to wonder.]]
* FamilyOfChoice: After being mistreated and ostracized most of their lives, Kurama and the young jinchuuriki form a surrogate family with each other, with Kurama as the father/eldest brother, and the jinchuuriki being brother and sister to each other.
* LivingMacguffin: The jinchuuriki are walking [=WMDs=] used by the villages keep a balance of power and the Akatsuki need them to capture and kill them to free Kaguya.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: After suffering years of abuse and isolation, Gaara, Fu, Yugito, Roushi and Han are quick to betray to their villages for Kurama, who genuinely cares about their welfare, offers them freedom and camaraderie.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Kurama by himself almost wiped out Konoha in a few minutes, all of them together can wipe out nations without breaking a sweat and the Elemental Nation know it. Moreover, throughout the story they keep getting stronger and stronger, and that is only in their Human forms, playing pivotal roles in defeating S-ranked ninja.
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: All of them have a tailed beast inside of them,
* TheDogBitesBack: Most of them grew collectively sick of the villages' abuse and isolation that they collectively abandon their villages and join Kurama's cause despite that it could set a world war.
* TheDreaded: Individually, they can raze an entire ninja village to the ground. Together, they can destroy nations.

!Naruto Uzumaki
* BecomingTheMask: Six-years-old Naruto is a StepfordSmiler before meeting Kurama. His cheerfulness grows more genuine the more time he spend with his newfound guardian and his jinchuriki friends.
* ChainPain: He learned Kushina's Chakra Chain technique from Kurama.
* GenerationXerox: He's overjoyed to discover that his mother also was a ramen-loving prankster who dreamed to become Hokage. And Kurama started to teach him how to make Chakra chains.
* IChooseToStay: He decides to stay with Kurama after being abducted, seeing that Kurama would be unhappy to part with him and figuring he can return to Konoha when older.
* OrphansOrdeal: He grew up alone and despised without the slightest idea of ''why'' Konaha citizens hated him so much, so he thought his parents had to be bad people. Then [[LongLostRelative Kurama]] [[HappilyAdopted found him]].
* ReplacementGoldfish: Kurama feared to invoke this trope, so he decided to stay away from the kid. He still went to check if Naruto was okay, and the rest is history.
** Averted. Kurama admits that this Naruto can't replace his old Naruto because the little Naruto is his own person in Kurama's heart.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: At this point in the timeline, Naruto is shunned by his fellow citizens of Konoha and desperately longs for someone to love him. Enter Kurama, posing as his uncle and openly doting on him: Naruto immediately latches on him and has no problem to ditch his village in order to stay with the first person showing care for him.
** Kakashi is painfully aware of this, and fears that hurting Kurama and forcefully separating him from the kid would not only traumatize Naruto, but also push him to actively ''hate'' Konoha.
** Jiraiya is also painfully aware of this, noting how Naruto's only friend is a ''ramen chef.'' So if the Kurama chooses to hide out in the wilderness with Naruto and the kids, then time will erode whatever remaining attachment the kid has for Konohagakure.
* [[TellMeAboutMyFather Tell Me About My Parents]]: As an orphan deprived of any clues about his birth parents, he's naturally curious. Kurama eagerly regales him with stories after cursing Konoha for keeping tight lips.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He's horrified when he learns that ghosts ''may'' be haunting Uzushio's ruins.
* YouKilledMyFather: Kakashi is terrified by the possibility of invoking this trope if Kurama is hurt or killed by Konoha shinobi, which would give to Naruto a very good reason to resent his village.

!The Nine-Tailed Fox/Kyuubi
* ChekhovsGunman: He's currently asleep in Naruto. When he does wake up, there is some initial trouble, but Kurama and Naruto surprise and settle him down enough.
* FlatWhat: He's speechless when little Naruto declares his intention to become his friend. C'mon, would YOU have fared better?
* IHatePastMe: Kurama doesn't hate his past self, but knows that his past self will need a major wake-call to change.
* {{Irony}}: His siblings all identified Kurama as his altered self at first glance, but when they finally met, the Kyuubi thinks him another Uzumaki unsympathetic to his plight.
* JerkassGod: He was the one who gave foxes chakra and intelligence and thus the foxes worship him and by extension Kurama. That said, the foxes have many tales of his cruelty. Fuji states she is very relieved that she met Kurama first.
* NeverTheSelvesShallMeet: So far the Kyuubi and Kurama haven't met yet, but Kurama is worried because he knows that he was much more vicious back then.

!Gaara
* BadassAdorable: Very shy, very small and very sweet. Also very able ''and'' willing to messily harm/kill you if you happen to threaten his ParentalSubstitute Kurama or his fellow young jinchuriki.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: He's the youngest and the shyest of the jinchuriki.
* BeneathTheMask: Once his seal is fixed so it is assured that Shakaku won't come out, Gaara's real personality shows. He's extremely shy and sweet when given affection.
* CreepyChild: He's noted by Suna to be one. Gaara is not one most of the time, unless someone threatens his new family which brings Gaara's murderous and creepy nature out.
* CuddleBug: After a childhood deprived from any affection, he often seeks out hugs from Kurama, who's happy to give them.
* DeclarationOfProtection: When Kurama declares that he should use his power to protect what's important to him, Gaara answers he already found it: it's Kurama and Naruto.
* DefusingTheTykebomb: Kurama repairing his seal then introducing him to Naruto manages to transform him, from a CreepyChild to a shy and utterly adorable kid.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Gaara was so lonely and miserable in Suna that he immediately latches on Kurama and Naruto when they show him affection and care.
* ShrinkingViolet: Very shy and frequently shrinks away from people not named Kurama or Naruto.

!The One-Tail Tanuki/Ichibi/Shakaku
* DespairEventHorizon: The past version of him was never the same after Gaara died.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: His screwed-up seal and insane previous jinchuriki didn't do wonders for his sanity.
* PetTheDog: As much as he hates Gaara, he tries to warn the child of Kurama's past cruelties and wickedness in hopes that Gaara will listen for his own safety.

!Fuu
* AbusiveParents: Her grandfather pushed her to train so hard she thought she was going to die, and refuses to acknowledge she had very good reasons to run away. Her parents are not really touched upon, [[ParentalNeglect but it's implied they are not involved into her life]] and the one bit of influence we know her mother gave her was the bad advice of "Let people repeatedly and regularly abuse you with no recourse because you should TurnTheOtherCheek".
* TheDreaded: Shisui muses that her pechant for blinding opponents with her glitter will in the future ensure that no dojutsu user will be willing to fight her. [[spoiler: During the game of tag in Konona, Shisui's insticts are screaming 'Abort mission' as Fuu targets him.]]
* FairyTaleMotif: She is frequently described as being fairy-like.
* LittleMissBadass: She's a scrawny ten-years-old, and she's strong enough to carry a six-years-old kid for several hours and hold herself rather well against Jiraiya by repeatedly blinding him.
* TheRunaway: Poor girl constantly attempted to flee her village due to her treatment there. Kurama found her while shinobi from Taki were roughing her to force her to come back. [[CurbstompBattle Three guesses about what happened next.]]
* StatusEffects: Her Beetle Dust is very good at blinding people, which she uses to her advantage.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: Subverted. Her mother ''tried'' to instill this morality in her, but she's ultimately too angry to forgive Taki's residents for treating her like a monster.

!The Seven-Tailed Beetle/Nanabi/Chomei
* ForgivenButNotForgotten: She remembers how nasty Kurama used to be and is very surprised that Kurama has changed enough to willingly help people. But she lets it go because Kurama saved Fuu.
* InsultOfEndearment: Kurama calls her an overgrown bumblebee.
* LuckySeven: She calls herself Lucky Seven Chomei.
* PowerGivesYouWings: Kurama states once Fuu finds a working synchronization with Chomei, Chomei can give her wings that she can fly with.
* StockholmSyndrome: She is very fond of Fuu and enjoys working with her.

!Yugito
* CoolBigSis: Being the oldest of the kid jinchurikis, she's this for them.
* DontYouDarePityMe: She's incensed when Jiraiya tries to apologize for hitting her, taking it as a blow against her ability as a kunoichi.
* FemmeFatalons: She can grow claws.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: She wasn't exactly mistreated per se, but she was certainly considered more as a weapon than a young girl, and A has for policy that no jinchuriki can decide by themselves their life - then, when you see [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} his brother]]... So when Matatabi swears that Kurama will offer her freedom, she immediately seizes her chance to flee Kumo.
* PromotionToParent: Being the oldest of the child jinchuriki, she watches over the younger kids and even teaches them.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She's a shinobi, and proud of it. She's also fond of fairy tales with princesses in it.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: As the vessel for a cat spirit, she really hates wetness. Unfortunately, Kiri's weather is very rainy.

!The Two-Tailed Cat/Nibi/Matatabi
* AmbiguousGender: For tailed beasts, gender is a matter of preference. Kurama first refers to her as male by default before discovering she prefers be considered as female.
* ManipulativeBitch: She holds her cards close to her chest. She notably avoided telling Kurama anything about her host while tricking him into helping her.
* ParentalSubstitute: She was more of a mother for Yugito that the woman who gave birth to her.
* {{Pun}}: She's extremely catty.

!Karin Uzumaki
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: Her mother died due to Grass working her to death so she has nothing attaching her to Grass and all the reason to run.
* GeneHunting: Karin attempted to run away from Grass in order to join her supposed biological uncle and cousin.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Knowing that Karin would continue to attempt running away to join her biological family or Kurama will break down the door trying to get her, the Head woman of Grass just directly gives Karin to Kurama.
* TheTeamNormal: The only non-jinchuuriki of Kurama's kids.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Adult Jinchuuriki and their Tailed Beast]]
* TheDogBitesBack: Most of them grew collectively sick of the villages' abuse and isolation that they collectively abandon their villages and join Kurama's cause despite that it could set a world war.
* TheDreaded: Individually, they can raze an entire ninja village to the ground. Together, they can destroy nations.
* EveryoneHasStandards: They may have nothing to do with the other jinchuuriki, but they don't want children to suffer the abuse they had to grow up with.
* JumpedAtTheCall: Once they heard of Kurama, they jumped at the chance to make things better for themselves and other jinchuuriki.
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: All of them have a tailed beast inside of them,

!Han
* AdaptationalExpansion: Like most characters here, he is expanded upon. But this stands out more than anyone in this page, because we know absolutely nothing about him in canon except his biju number, name and ability.
* BoringButPractical: He relies more on his steam-enhanced taijutsu than any flashy moves.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: He remembers being a child with a demon sealed in his body and his village hating him. It... wasn't pleasant.
* GentleGiant: A veritable moutain of a man, and the most polite and amiable of the jinchurikis.
* LightningBruiser: As Kakashi painfully discovers, ''big'' doesn't have to mean ''slow''.
* OddFriendship: With Roushi. Seriously, their only commonality is them being from Iwa.
* RecruitmentByRescue: Kurama earned his trust by saving him from Kakuzu.
* RedOniBlueOni: The quiet, thoughtful one to Roushi's Loud, reckless one.
* WouldntHitAGirl: Roushi accuses him from this, saying that if Akatsuki send [[EmotionlessGirl Konan]] to capture him, he would be too focused on blushing for protecting himself.

!The Five-Tails Horse-Dolphin/Gobi/Kokuo
* CharacterWitness: He's the one to tell Han that Kurama is much more important than he lets on and is genuine in his attempts to help.

!Roushi
* AmazonChaser: He's in awe when he sees Mei using her Lava Release to fight and is implied to be in a relationship with her at the end.
* BerserkButton: Do NOT try to capture or slander Kurama when you are in his vicinity. You will be barbecued but ''good''.
* TheDogBitesBack: His deciding to join Kurama has shades of that. He perfectly knows that helping a serial kidnapper to screw the balance of power between the villages would potentially result in a global war, and he doesn't care the slightest bit because he's himself a victim of this balance.
* DumbassHasAPoint: Roushi ends up picking up a fight with Kakashi, which reveals his and Han’s status as jinchuuriki and their intention of joining Kurama's group. But as Roushi points out, now Roushi and Han know that Kurama hasn’t been captured. Roushi correctly guesses that Kurama is going to Kiri to find Kiri’s jinchuuriki.
* FieryRedhead: Literally. He WILL roast you alive with his Lava Release if you say something he doesn't like.
* LeeroyJenkins: Roushi has just met Kakashi and tries to get info from him before attacking him and revealing his motive to find Kurama.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He frequently complains about his short height but it makes him no less formidable.
* {{Pride}}: Keeps himself from referring to the Yonbi by his given name out of pure spite at being forced to host him. Kurama convinces him to see things differently and actually use "Son Goku".
* RedOniBlueOni: He's a self-professed LeeroyJenkins with a shorter fuse than a live grenade.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Kurama, by virtue of him being the only person to give a shit about the jinchuriki's happiness.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: His best friend was so scared when she saw him using his biju's power, they drifted apart. When he talks about it, you can feel he's still hurting.

! Four-Tailed Gorilla/Yonbi/Son Goku
* BloodKnight: He enjoys fighting a lot to point of complaining to his jinchuuriki when the latter hold back or backs out of a fight.
* {{Pride}}: Just as prideful as his jinchuuriki. Referring to him by his name keeps him from losing his temper quite as easily.
* SoreLoser: Really dislikes losing.

!Utakata
* FriendlessBackground: He was discouraged by Master Harusome from associating with others.
* HeroicBystander: So Kurama is fighting Yagura, and Mei and Zabuza are busy with the bodyguards, it seems that Utakata will sit down this one - ''holy hell is he unraveling the genjutsu cast upon the Mizukage?'' Not bad for a fifteen years-old.
* HideYourOtherness: His master told him that listening to Saiken was a sign of weakness so he avoided having anything to do with Saiken.
* HopeIsScary: He is surprised that Kurama actually gives a shit about how poorly jinchuuriki are treated.
* MadDictatorsHandsomeSon: His father created the bloody graduation exam, and sealing a tailed beast inside his own son probably means he wasn't "Dad of The Year Award" material. Utakata himself is quite polite and reserved.
* PrincelyYoungMan: He's the son of the Sandaime Mizukage, and clearly a gentleman.
* PromotionToParent: Being the only jinchuuriki reliable enough to take care of the younger kids, this happened to him.
* TheReliableOne: He's the only vessel responsible enough to take care of the young jinchuuriki, something that makes Kurama very relieved.
* ShipTease: He finds Iruka cute, and Iruka finds him similarly attractive.
* YouKilledMyFather: The Sandaime Mizukage wasn't a great father, but he was still Utakata's father, meaning that the guy is open to listen Kurama - who tries to rally him to the rebellion against Yagura - without ripping his head off at first sight.

!Six-Tailed Slug/Rokubi/Saiken
* BigBrotherWorship: He's very pleased with Kurama'a change of heart and very supportive of it.
* NiceGuy: He's very laid-back and cool with letting Utakata borrow his power.
* TheReliableOne: He offers to take care of the young jinchuuriki without asking, making him a godsend to Kurama. And he does a pretty decent job.
* ShipperOnDeck: He thinks his host and Iruka would be ''adorable'' together.
* StockholmSyndrome: He really likes Utakata. Of course, it helps that he's is not trying to abuse his power.
* ThePollyanna: He is very cheerful and tries to be optimistic despite his situation.

!Yagura
* AbdicateTheThrone: [[spoiler: He ultimately steps down from the Mizukage position and hands the hat to Mei.]]
* AllNationsAreSuperpowers: Except by the time he is released from Obito's genjutsu, he is the Kage in charge of a nation where 9 jinchuuriki are living. When Mei warns the possibility of the other Great Nations attacking the Land of Water, he angrily points out how with that sort of firepower they would still win. This sort of math is one of the reasons the other Kage are so quick to give Kurama a pardon, and accept his request to move to Konohgakure.
* BerserkButton: He's a GROWN-UP MAN, not a kid!
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: As in canon, only this time he's snapped out of it.
* ChildhoodFriend: He and Mei grew up together and are best of friends.
* ForgivenButNotForgotten: The population of Kiri was willing to forgive Yagura's actions because he was under mind control the entire time. But they do not forget the suffering Yagura caused while under Tobi's control and wary that Yagura would backslide or fall under someone else's control. [[spoiler: Yagura chooses to step down in response of his people's quite reasonable fears.]]
* HotBlooded: He's a big hothead needing Mei to keep him in line.
* IOweYouMyLife: He immediately grants to Kurama - a fugitive wanted by almost every major superpower in the world - a safe haven in Kiri as thanks for saving him from Akatsuki's clutches.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: He has been given a chance to prove himself after breaking free of mind control and he's not going to waste it.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's around Mei's age since he grew up with her, but he looks like a child.
* VitriolicBestBuds: When he's released from the genjutsu, he and Mei immediately start verbally tearing each other to pieces. They especially love pressing their mutual BerserkButton. And yet they are childhood friends.

!Three-Tailed Turtle/Sanbi/Isobu

!Killer Bee
* BadassInDistress: Gets himself kidnapped by Akatsuki. To be fair, his opponent was Pain.
* DitchTheBodyguards: He escapes from the protection his brother set up for him to protect him from Akatsuki to investigate what's going on with the rest of the jinchuuriki. He gets captured by Akatsuki.
* TheFriendNoOneLikes: The rest of the jinchuuriki tolerate him but the rest find extremely annoying due to his constant rapping. Moreover, Han and Roushi take issue with how he is more loyal to Kumo than his fellow Jinchuuriki. Meanwhile Yugito never received the priviliges he enjoys.
* {{Nepotism}}: Pretty much the reason he's better treated than the rest of the jinchuuriki because he has a good relationship with his brother, A, who's the Raikage. Compare to Yugito, who was forbidden to make her own decisions.
* OpenMouthInsertFoot: Tries to defend his brother as a nice guy, only to learn he is talking to Hyuuga Hiashi, whose daughter A had ordered the abduction of, and when that failed it led to the death of Hiashi's brother.

!The Eight-Tailed Ox/Hachibi/Gyuuki
* GondorCallsForAid: When Killer Bee is captured, he contacts Kurama to help him.
* PoorCommunicationKills: As he didn't know Kurama was gathering the jinchuurikis because of Akatsuki's threat, he told Bee it could be a ''good'' idea to go and spend some time bonding with the other vessels. Boy was he sorry when Pain dropped in on them...
* WhatTheHellHero: He's not happy when he finds out that Bee was captured by the enemies that Kurama warned ''literally'' every other Jinchuuriki/Tailed Beast but them about. ''Especially'' since Bee had slipped away to meet up with the rest of the Jinchuuriki he knew were gathering together.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Foxes]]
!Tropes for all the Foxes
* AsianFoxSpirit: Well duh.
* HorseOfADifferentColor: Fuji, Momiji and Ran are all used as Kurama's mode of transportation to escape from trackers.
* MissionFromGod: Kurama is a god to the ''Kitsune'', of course they're going to help him!

!Unnamed One-Tail Red Fox
* AndroclesLion: Kurama rescues a fox whose fur was painfully stuck in a brier bush. The fox returns the favor fairy-tale style.
* BigDamnHeroes: If he didn't came back with Fuji in tow, Kurama would have been [[MindRape mind-raped]] into submission by Shisui and taken back to Konoha.
* BloodMagic: He licks Kurama's bloody finger in order to identify him as the Nine Tailed Fox.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: This little fox is on his way on earning his second tail, refusing to take the easy way of Mount Inari and when he finds himself in trouble, he is literally rescued by his god, a favor he quickly manages to return, despite being the fox equivalent of a ''child.'' Little guy's going places.
* IOweYouMyLife: Kurama helps him out of a bush, and he thanks him by leading a powerful ''kitsune'' to his benefactor, in the purest fairy tale logic mode. Shisui [[{{Lampshaded}} lampshades]] this.
* NoNameGiven: This fox is regular fox with barely enough intelligence to think in order to become a ''kitsune''. As he's only a slightly magical fox with no second tail, he doesn't have a name.
* PathOfMostResistance: He could earn a second tail by going to Mount Inari but he deliberately takes a difficult journey because he doesn't want shortcuts.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He only appeared in two chapters and he made a major impact. He was the one lead Fuji to Kurama's rescue when he was about to captured by the Freak Squad, which lead Fuji and her follow tailed-foxes to joining Kurama's cause.

!Fuji
* {{Animorphism}}: Can shapeshift to fox to girl.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: She's this to Momiji.
* BadassAdorable: She's a cute and fluffy little fox that turn change her size from horse to building.
* CuteMonsterGirl: She can assume the form of a teenage girl.
* EleventhHourSuperPower: She can fly in dire situations, but it takes so much out of her she saves it for special occasions.
* {{Determinator}}: Fuji's determined to help Kurama succeed in her mission, no matter what!
* FriendToAllChildren: She adores the young jinchuuriki, even allowing them to pet her.
* GenkiGirl: She's very cheerful and energetic.
* HiddenDepths: Fuji can be silly and playful, but she holds her own against her brother, pointing their elders' teachings gives Fuji the obligation to Kurama. Which convinces Momiji to let her stay and for him to help Kurama.
* HorseOfADifferentColor: She can turn herself into a size of a horse and acts as Kurama and the jinchuuriki's mode of transportation.
* MasterOfIllusion: Her specialty is casting powerful illusions that only break when she wants to as she got the Freak Squad to chase to separate illusions that went to separate countries.
* MissionFromGod: Kurama is God to the foxes for giving sentience
* MouthyKid: She playfully makes a lot of digs at her brother and Kurama.
* MysticalWhiteHair: She's a magical fox summon with white fur, which becomes her hair in human form.
* RuleOfThree: She's a three-tailed fox and is the third fox character in the story.
* SizeShifter: She can go from little fox to big as a house.
* {{SuperSpeed}}: She can run extremely fast.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Kitsune oden with aburaage in it, in accord with the mythology.

!Momiji
* AloofBigBrother: Gives off vibes of this, but it's downplayed.
* BigBrotherInstinct: While Fuji is annoying to him, Momiji is quick to her defense when he believes humans are forcing her to work for them.
* GiantFlyer: One of his major powers is that he can fly without tiring and assist his sister in doing so.
* HorseOfADifferentColor
* MightyGlacier: Fuji is faster than him but he's a lot tougher than her.
* StrongerSibling: Being a five-tailed fox and older than Fuji, he's more physically powerful than her.
* WeightWoe: Fuji makes fun of his weight.

!Ran
* HorseOfADifferentColor
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Konoha]]
!Tropes relating to Konoha
* FairWeatherFriend: This is what the country of Uzu, Orochimaru, the jinchuuriki, Kushina and Sakumo have learned of Konoha: if you are too burdensome, embarrassing or troublesome to work with, Konoha will turn its back on you and leave you to die. Despite being stanch allies, Konoha did not lift a finger to help Uzu when they were being slaughtered. Despite being the only Sannin loyal enough to stay in the village, Orochimaru is cast out when his human experimentation comes out when even other villages would have overlooked it due to his usefulness. Despite living to Konoha's ideals, Sakumo is shamed and ridiculed to the point of suicide when his attempt to save his comrades kick start a war. Despite having a ton of friends, being a loved and respected kunoichi and being the wife of the Hokage, Kushina's son is an unloved, reviled and neglected orphan with no one lifting a finger to help him.

!Hiruzen Sarutobi, The Third Hokage
* BigGood: He's the one keeping the Kage together and preventing war from breaking out.
* EntertaininglyWrong: By extrapolating with the tidbits he has learned from Kurama or Kakashi, he guesses that Uzumaki Kurama is the younger half-brother to Uzumaki Kushina, bred by Kumo to become a living weapon but having managed to run away to Uzushio right before its fall. To give him credit, Kurama is not claiming at every corner his status of time traveler...
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Kurama's antics make him want to dive for the sake. As it is, he is really going at the tobacco.
* OhCrap: His reaction when the jinchuuriki come to Konoha and [[spoiler: he sees Kushina and Tsunade with them.]]
* OldMaster: His mere presence is enough to prevent the Kazekage and Raikage from fighting. The title "God of Shinobi" is not one you can pull off a cereal box.
* ParentsAsPeople: He's the first to lament the toll the Hokage's duties take on his duties as a father. He barely scrapes enough time for his own son, and is plain unavailable for Naruto.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure:
** He's fully prepared to grant a pardon to Kurama and let him come back to Konoha on his own terms, because let's face it: you ''cannot'' give orders to the man holding the loyalty of nine living weapons of mass destruction, unless you want to unleash a war you're unable to survive to upon your country.
** When Kurama directs him to proof that Danzou intentionally prolonged the Third Great Shinobi War, he goes to kill his old friend himself.
** Retires at the first opportunity, making Kushina the new Hokage. This ensures not only a smooth transition of leadership given his own failings, but also means that the person in charge of Konohagakure is perhaps the only loyal Leaf ninja their new Jinchuuriki residents will listen to.

!Iruka Umino
* PapaWolf: The guy was ready to hunt down Kurama - established as a powerful fighter and a potential jinchuuriki - in order to save a little boy with whom he never really talked before. Because Naruto is his ''student.''
* ShipTease: He's quite captivated by Utakata, most especially his pretty eyes.

!Genma
* BerserkButton:
** He really dislikes Cloud nin to point that people worry of him snapping and attacking one.
** He despises traitors. Or being accused of being one.
* GossipyHens: Genma's called the Gossip Queen of Konoha and often has the best dirt of people.
* NiceGuy: The fishermen living near Uzushio's ruins quickly warm to him because he's quite eager to chat and make friends.
* TheSocialExpert: Thanks to his hobby of learning gossip, he's very good at reading people and predicting how they'll react, making him a good spy for ANBU.
* YouKilledMyFather: The Cloud Village is responsible for his mother and older sister's death. He does not take well the presence of Cloud ninjas within Konoha.

!Fugaku Uchiha
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: As in canon he is this, working with the Third Hokage and Nara Shikaku to address this catastrophe they are dealing with.

! Hiashi Hyuuga
* AccidentalPublicConfession: After the disastrous failed mission to bring back Killer B, the brother of the man who engineered his brother's death, Hiashi goes to his brother's grave and gets roaring drunk. Unbenownst to him, Neji overhears his usually cold clan head go on about his love and respect for the boy's father, and that instead of being essentially murdered by the Main Branch, Hizashi had volunteered to save his brother.
* TheFettered: He puts aside his grudge against Kumo for attempting to kidnap his daughter and getting his brother killed for the sake of his mission.

!Naho
* DamselInDistress: She's a little girl who was kidnapped because she's the Fire Daimyo's daughter.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: You may argue she's that, since she finds Kakashi (the shinobi sent to rescue her) scary and cling to Kurama (a HumanoidAbomination running on malevolence). However, Kakashi suggested to knock her out because he didn't want to be bothered into comforting her, while Kurama reassured her and argued against putting her to sleep.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Because Kurama helped rescue her and took care of her while transporting her back to Konoha that Kakashi vouched for him and allowed him in the village.

!Jiraiya
* BullyHunter: Orochimaru remembers being protected by him when they used to attend the Academy.
* ButtMonkey: A bunch of kids - alright, jinchuuriki but ''still'' - manage to hand his ass to him. Twice. While he was holding back and they took him off guard, he still acknowledges how dangerous they are.
* DeadpanSnarker: His reaction when Kurama claims having abducted Naruto because of their family ties is to ask if Kurama is also related to Yugito, Gaara and Fuu.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: He had no idea about Kurama and the frenzy he stirred up until they cross paths.
* OpenMouthInsertFoot: He unwittingly dismisses the suffering the jinchuuriki have suffered, upsetting them and gets a warning not to do it again.
** He later screws up again with [[spoiler:Yahiko]], who is less willing to let things go.
** Also regularly gets hit by Tsunade once she joins.
* UnwantedRescue: He almost does that when he finds Naruto - who's supposed to be safe at Konoha - in Kiri, with a revolution brewing. The kids disagree with this thought. Violently.

!Tsunade
* ActionGirl: Still an S-ranked ninja in her own right with SuperStrength. When Fuu and Yugito see her break a tree in half with a single punch, they get more than a touch of hero worship, and want to learn from her. Kurama has no issue with them having fun while getting more terrifying.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite what she wants people to think. She is introduced taking offense to Kurama apparently bullying Itachi, who is just a child. Later though she realizes everything Kurama said was accurate.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: When Kurama declares he will enjoy seeing her wearing the Hokage's hat, she threatens to name him her personal jounin and send him on errands.
* FatalFlaw: She can't resist a bet especially if it means she has a chance of being free of her debt.
* InsultOfEndearment: Her calling Kurama shortcake - because of his height and hair colour - starts to become that.
* TrueCompanions: Despite everything, she remains this with Orochimaru. It is seeing him dying which gets her over her phobia of blood to save him, and afterwards is gambling that the Third Hokage and Orochimaru will work something out to spare her old teammate execution.

!Danzo
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Hiruzen is this to him and fully aware of it.
* FlawExploitation: [[spoiler:Hiruzen knows that having so many powerful people within Konoha, especially the young children will be too much temptation for Danzo for him not to try to brainwash to his side. Aware of this, Hiruzen had Genma, who absolutely despises traitors, keep an eye on him.]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: He doesn't appear in person for most of the story, but his actions can be felt with all those hurt by his decisions and the tragedies he caused.
* TheUnfettered: It's deconstructed, as Hiruzen notes that his advice lead the village into a war for several more years and lead to countless deaths just to avenge losses that should've been buried.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: After learning he kidnapped their children for inducting them into ROOT, the Clan heads are out for ''blood''. As for the Third Hokage, when Kurma directs him to proof of how Danzou prolonged the Third Great Shinobi War, he concludes enough is enough.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Suna]]
!Rasa, The Fourth Kazekage
* AbusiveParent: He tried to have his son killed and is so horrible that Gaara runs away the moment he has a chance.
* ElephantInTheLivingRoom: He refuses to admit the reason why jinchuuriki eagerly drop their villages to join Kurama is the way they are considered monsters and hated by the ones they are supposed to protect. Hiruzen quickly sets him straight.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: He gives up Gaara's guardianship to [[ParentalSubstitute Kurama]], as he knows his youngest would never be happy in Suna and being surrounded by other kid jinchuuriki will be good for him.
* OhCrap:
** His reaction when he learns that the protection of a hidden village wouldn't be enough to deter Akatsuki from abducting a jinchuuriki, meaning that the organization would have come for Gaara even if he had stayed in Suna.
** Tries to order Gaara to get away from Kurama and come to him, only for Gaara to make violently clear he is staying with his new adoptive parent.
* ParentsAsPeople: He's an atrocious father to Gaara, and it's plain as day that he knows it, but he certainly won't let him be kidnapped by a potentially ill-intentioned shinobi.

!Baki
* PetTheDog: He doesn't even like Gaara, but is concerned enough for him that he asks Kakashi to bring him back safely.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kumo]]

! A, The Fourth Raikage
* {{Hypocrite}}: He come all the way to Konoha because he was furious that Konoha had a second Uzumaki jinchuuriki when Kumo already has two.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: There is a second Uzumaki jinchuuriki, but Konoha has nothing to do with him.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Many people in the Shinobi Alliance despise him and his village's ninja for the pain they caused.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kiri]]

!Zabuza Momochi
* BloodKnight: He loves to pick a fight with strong people, to the point of frequently trying to get Kurama to fight him.
* HiddenDepths: He took care of Haku like if he was his own child and protects him from the worst of Kiri.
* HypocriticalHumor: He snarks at Kurama for being the perfect mother in spite of himself being quite protective towards Haku.
* InLoveWithYourCarnage: He already thought that Kurama was attractive, but Kurama really went up when he curb-stomped Yagura, whom the entire Mist Rebellion couldn't take on. [[spoiler: Zabuza succeeded in having Kurama sleep with him.]]
* NobleDemon: Despite his bloodthirsty nature, Zabuza has a code of conduct.
* PapaWolf: Very protective of Haku, and loses all his friendliness at the first threat to him. He and Kurama are teased about arguing who is the better mom to their kids.
* TheScapegoat: Kurama muses that in his timeline, Zabuza had to take the fall for the failed coup, which let Mei in a prime position for coming back at full force and succeed to topple the leadership.

!Haku
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: PlayedForLaughs, but Zabuza believes the fact that Haku hasn't poisoned him as proof of Haku's incorruptible nature.
* LikeASonToMe: When Kurama teases Zabuza about his fatherly attitude towards Haku, the swordsman tells him to shut up but doesn't deny.
* PapaWolf: Inverted. He's ready to transform Kurama in an icicle when he sees him attacking Zabuza.

!Mei
* ActionGirl: She takes down several waves of Kiri shinobi with her Lava Release.
* BerserkButton: Don't imply that she'll never get married.
** Don't imply that kunoichi are weaker.
* TheConsigliere: She acts as Yagura's adviser to prevent him from acting hotheadedly or damaging their relations with other villages. [[spoiler: Plays a big role in him naming her his successor.]].
* LikeBrotherAndSister: She and Yagura bicker like siblings with both deliberately making fun of each other.
* MagmaMan: Or Magma ''Woman.'' Uses this power of hers the most, which makes her very attractive to Roushi, since she is the first person he has met with a similar ability to his.
* MsFanservice: Extremely attractive and among the things that attracts Roushi to her.
* NumberTwo: She acts as this to Yagura and thus Yagura takes her with him to the Kage Summit.
* RankUp: [[spoiler: Is made Mizukage at the end.]]
* RebelLeader: She was leader of the Kiri Rebellion.
* {{Tsundere}}: She frequently argues and picks on Yagura but she loves him to pieces and is very happy that she didn't have to kill him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Uzu]]
!Uzu itself
* DyingRace: Kiri was extremely through of their genocide against Uzu to the point there's only a few left.
* GhostTown: Invoked, the locals spread rumors of the ruins being haunted to scare away looters. The fact there's untouched ruins, corpse littering the streets and unbounded chakra helps with the haunted atmosphere.
* ThePurge: Uzu was attacked to make sure the Uzumaki clan was wiped out. They were thorough as Kurama and the jinchuuriki were the only Uzumaki they have ever seen in the present day.

!Anzu Takeda
* BerserkButton: She holds a grudge against Konoha for not helping Uzushi when the Mist destroyed the village.
* CoolOldLady: Seeing the state Kurama and the children are in, she feeds them, gives Kurama new clothes, and introduces him to the Uzu Daimyo.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She was a teenager when Uzushio fell, and her aunt was among the casualties.
* RevengeBeforeReason: She's ready to take arms against Konoha when the Freak Squad comes knocking, and Takauji has to remind her Uzu is actually too weak to put any meaningful resistance against well-trained jounin.
* ScrewPolitenessImASenior: She's all too happy to have an excuse to be rude to Konoha nin and enjoys that she's old to make her yelling twice as shaming.

!Takauji, the Uzu Daimyo
* FallenOnHardTimesJob: He is supposed to be the ninja equivalent of a king but he works as an accountant and fisherman.
* TheFettered: He saved the last of the Uzumaki fortune for years without spending any on himself in hopes of giving it back to any surviving Uzumaki. He gives a portion of it to Kurama with the promise to send more when he needs it.
* ImpoverishedPatrician: He's the Uzu Daimyo and lives the same life as his citizen.
* HonorBeforeReason: He WILL help the last Uzumaki (or so he thinks) to flee justice, only because the Uzumakis tried to stop Uzushio's destruction.
* ModestRoyalty: He's technically the ruler of a country, but it's so small and poor that he still works as a fishermen.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He knows that Uzushio is too weak to oppose the Elemental Nations, but he still delays them in order to facilitate Kurama and the kids fleeing, because the Uzumakis protected Uzushio and now it's time to repay the debt.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Akatsuki]]

!Kakuzu
* ButtMonkey: He loses every fight he participates in. First, he fails to capture Han because Kurama jumps him, than he fails to capture Kurama and his two charges - Naruto and Gaara - because the Freak Squad disturbs them, THEN Roushi hands his ass to him. Offscreen.
* NearVillainVictory: Had Han not showed up several seconds before, he would have killed Kurama and ended the story before it even began.
* StalkerWithoutACrush: He is very determined to hunt down Kurama for destroying his hearts so he can kill him and get paid for it.

!Tobi
* BrokenPedestal: Kakashi's crushed when he finds out who Tobi actually is.
* DissonantSerenity: He's acting quite the goofball, but the sheer ''malice'' he holds within himself is enough to overwhelm Kurama's senses. The contrast between how he acts and how he truly feels is outright jarring, and it's the HumanoidAbomination who says that.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He initially tries to pretend that he's the harmless and stupid Tobi so Kakashi and Kurama wouldn't attack him. Kurama shows that he knows that only Tobi knows, Tobi quickly gets serious.

!Kisame
* TheDragon: Tobi’s most loyal and competent subordinate in the Akatsuki.
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler: Tobi gives him his birth name of Obito, saying that he can use it when they're alone.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: To Tobi, no matter how aggressive his master gets, he follows him from the beginning to the end no matter what. It is reciprocated as Tobi trusted him enough to give his name.

!Zetsu
* AssholeVictim: His eventual fate [[spoiler: permanently trapped on a desolate moon in another dimension for all eternity]], may seem underwhelming for all the pain he caused. It’s still satisfying to know that such a jerk got what’s he deserved.
* JerkAss: He takes sadistic glee in every atrocity he’s observed or participated in, and has zero regrets for the lives taken in his plan.
* SmugSnake: No matter how much he loses: subordinates, plans, and even his element of surprise, he still remains overly smug and full of himself.

!Orochimaru
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Tobi and Kisame are perfectly aware that he will find a way to use the new and improved Edo Tensei to his benefit. [[spoiler: According to Kushina, that's because he seeks to bring back someone in particular.]]
* FallenHero: From the point of view of Konoha shinobi, who remember him as one of the Legendary Three. [[spoiler: Kushina and Sakumo initially assumed that he would help them escape the Akatsuki, his betrayal after their deaths shocking them compared to their memories of him as an anti-social but loyal comrade.]]
* HiddenDepths: As impossible as it seems, he does possess the slightest smidge of conscience, as he's not really indifferent to fighting Jiraiya - his past teammate - and he's quite emotive when he confesses having killed children.
* MyGreatestFailure: Nawaki's death heavily impacted him. [[spoiler: It's hinted at that the person he seeks to bring back to life is his late student.]]
* StartOfDarkness: Seeing his twelve-year-old pupil - also his teammate's baby brother - being blown to bits ''in front of him'' had such an impact on him, he was pushed to research ways to become immortal.
* TookALevelInCynic: Being chased out of [[FairWeatherFriend Konoha]] for following orders clearly had a major effect on him.
* WouldHurtAChild: For his experiments. However, the rant he gives hints it bothers him more than expected.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Past]]
!Naruto Uzumaki
* DeathByOriginStory: If he didn't die, Kurama wouldn't be in the past.
* MoralityChainBeyondTheGrave: Kurama would happily let the world burn... except that Naruto believed he had the potential to be a hero, so he will honour his memory by fighting the good fight.
* TheNotLoveInterest: Naruto completely changed Kurama's life changing him from a literal demon made of malice to being more kinder and willing to give people a chance. Kurama still follows Naruto's teachings after his death and being the hero Naruto believed he could be is primary motivation.
* OnlyFriend: Naruto was the only friend that Kurama has made since the Sage of Six Paths.
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: Naruto put a chakra impression of himself into a seal so he see Kurama's life despite his own death.
* SwappedRoles: Now Naruto is the one in seal and the one Kurama has to ask to get more chakra from.
* SatelliteCharacter: Justified because he is dead.
* SealedGoodInACan: He's Naruto, of course he's the good.
* WhatWouldXDo: Kurama often reacts as he thinks Naruto would act in his shoes, leading him to some pretty reckless and altruistic antics.

!Sakura Haruno
* PlatonicLifePartners: She and Naruto were best friends to the bitter end, to point that they died together trying to take down Kaguya and Kurama could flawlessly base a genjutsu in Sakura's image. But Naruto was in love with Sasuke and Sakura was with Ino.

!Kaguya
* AdaptationalBadass: In canon she was constantly distracted and outmaneuvered by Naruto. Here she kills all of mankind and the whole plot of reverse is avoiding her very resurrection.
* AdaptationalVillainy: FauxActionGirl, she ain't.
* BigBad: Yes, she's to be feared.
* GreaterScopeVillain: She hasn't been part of the plot since the first chapter, but the whole story is because of her. Kurama is desperately trying to prevent her awakening.
* HeroKiller: Killed ''everybody'' who stood against her. '''[[PersonOfMassDestruction Everybody]]'''.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Even if she hadn't killed ''all'' of mankind, then she was well on her way to doing so by the time Kurama went back in time. Doing this was pretty much a GodzillaThreshold move in the first place, and now on top of everything else that Kurama is trying to do in the sense of "SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong", preventing her from waking up is his top priority.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:SPOILER CHARACTERS]]

!'''WARNING: UNMARKED SPOILERS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED'''

!!Tropes relating to both of them.
* BackFromTheDead: Orochimaru deliberately brought them back from the dead to use as puppets to emotionally terrorize Konoha and Kurama with specters of their greatest failures and lost loved ones.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: They are being mind-controlled with a seal in order to forced to fight Kurama and Kakashi.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: They were brought back with a combination of the Rinnegan for the soul and Edo Tensai for the body.
* SuperPrototype: For all intents and purpose they are perfectly alive, capable of hunger, feeling and sleep. [[spoiler: Kushina theorizes it's because Orochimaru is using them as prototypes before he can bring someone else back.]]

!!Sakumo Hatake
* EasilyForgiven: [[SubvertedTrope No]]; Kushina hates him for screwing over Kakashi and will beat him when she has the chance.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Having self-esteem problems and depressive tendencies seems to be a genetic thing for the Hatake males.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To his son.
* WrongAssumption: When he saw Orochimaru enter the cell he shared with Kushina, he assumed that [[HopeSpot he was there to rescue them]], not having any idea that [[FallenHero Orochimaru]] had since defected and betrayed Konoha in the years he was dead.
* VillainRespect: Tobi calls him a disgraced hero, and Orochimaru seems to admire his power and feels some empathy about how Konoha treated them.
* WhatTheHellHero: Kurama goes ''ballistic'' when Sakumo confesses he ''still'' haven't talked to his son, and threatens to feed him his own spleen if he continues to differ.

!!Kushina Uzumaki
* ChainPain: A special Uzumaki jutsu which she used as her signature fighting style. That's when he discovers Kurama teaching it to Naruto that Kakashi acknowledges him as Kushina's brother.
* DontYouDarePityMe: When Minato tried to share his pay with her, she beat him silly with her sheathed tantô then kicked his ass so hard he was send flying into a puddle of mud.
* FieryRedhead: Apparently, being reckless and having red hair was the trademark of the Uzumakis.
* EntertaininglyWrong: Because of her familiarity with the Kyuubi's chakra, she immediately guesses that Kurama isn't a true Uzumaki. However, as Minato split the Nine Tails' chakra in two parts when he sealed it into Naruto, she concludes Kurama is the other half as time travel is not even a possibility for her.
* EtTuBrute: She doesn't take it well when she realizes no one amongst her and Minato's many friends and acquaintances took care of their son and let him grow up alone and unknowing of his parentage. She's most upset with Jiraiya since as Naruto's godfather, it was his actual legal duty to take care of him after his parents died. While Kushina would have liked it if one of her other friends took care of Naruto, none of them had the legal duty Jiraiya had.
* HopeSpot: She sacrificed her life in order to protect her son and died praying for him to lead a happy life. Then she learns that no, Naruto was outed as a jinchuuriki just after Konoha's destruction, meaning that his childhood was miserable and lonely.
** Also, Orochimaru insisting that Naruto is with her brother makes her think that perhaps she's not the last surviving Uzumaki. When you know what Kurama really is, this just becomes sad.
* HopeIsScary: She's afraid of believing Orochimaru when he says that Naruto is with her ''brother'', but can't make disappear the niggling suspicion that it ''may'' be the truth, and that Naruto is safe with someone who would stand against the world for him, no matter what.
* MamaBear: She's determined to break out of prison to find her son.
** And she's really NOT happy with Sakumo for psychologically screwing up Kakashi. If they weren't imprisoned, she would give him a piece of her mind.
** After she learns how Naruto [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer was treated]] by Konoha, she takes it so bad that Tsunade has to send Kurama to dissuade her from leveling the village.
* ThePrankster: With Minato frequently put in the position of victim.
* SecretKeeper: She knows Kurama is linked to the Kyuubi as she felt his chakra's nature, but plays along with his initial deception because he's the one who saved her son.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Kakashi remembers how she assaulted Minato for trying to give her money after being almost assaulted himself by Kurama incensed that Kakashi would give him a share of the mission pay.
** Kurama reveals to Naruto that she was a BigEater fond of ramen and loved prank people, just like her son.
** Jiraiya dreads to hear Kurama's plan for dealing with Akatsuki because of it: Kushina's fighting style was kinda ''crazy'' and he would like to keep his limbs.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Naruto is her male double, with blond hair instead of red. When Kurama finds himself stuck into his jinchuuriki's body, he easily passes as her brother.
* ThereIsAnother: In-universe, she was considered as [[LastOfHisKind the last Uzumaki]]. Then Kurama decided to present himself as her brother.
* VerbalTic: Not really apparent, but it's there, you know?
* WorthLivingFor: The possibility to reunite with her son and perhaps meeting her brother affirms her resolve to escape Akatsuki's clutches.
%%!!Yahiko
