* Both Roland's and Eddie's confrontation of the insane AI running the monorail train at the beginning of the book qualify for this. When Blaine demands a riddle from them, Roland only answered with a simple and calm [[PrecisionFStrike "Fuck you."]] Blaine becomes enraged as Roland refuses to give him a riddle, scorning him by comparing him to a gadget and how even the lowest beggar or the vilest being was far better than Blaine was.
--> '''Blaine''': ''I COMMAND YOU TO STOP IT OR I WILL KILL YOU RIGHT HERE!''
--> '''Roland''': [[ShutUpHannibal Kill if you will but command me nothing!]] You have forgotten the face of those who made you! Now either kill us or be silent and listen to me, Roland of Gilead, son of Steven, gunslinger and lord of ancient lands! I have not come [[WalkTheEarth all the miles and all the years]] to listen to your childish prating! Do you understand? Now you will ''listen to ME!''
* As Roland and the rest of the [[TrueCompanions ka-tet]] post riddle after riddle to the AI, Eddie spends his time [[ContemplateOurNavels lost in his memories, trying to recover the clue to defeat the AI's riddling prowess]]. After digging painfully at his past memories, he finally remembers [[ChekhovsSkill a conversation in the previous book where Roland grew offended at his stupid jokes, because of his]] [[SeriousBusiness literal mindedness.]] He also remembers that [[SpottingTheThread Blaine froze up on an early riddle,]] "What has four wheels and flies?" "The town garbage wagon." With a few minutes left, Eddie begins to hurl [[LogicBomb lame joke after lame joke]] at the AI, [[ExactWords that could not be refused, as it was stupidity Blane complained of, not transgression of the rules.]] Between the volleys of bad jokes, and eventually the volley of lead, Eddie destroys Blaine, just in time to cause the Mono to stop with a hard but survivable crash.
* While it does end up alerting the Big Coffin Hunters to the fact that the three new boys in town are more than they seem, it is very satisfying to watch Roland, Cuthbert, and Alain show up the hunters at every turn in the seven-person MexicanStandoff in the Traveler's Rest, winning the friendship of Sheemie in the process.
* Eddie recalling a memory of Henry saying he'd pick Eddie as back-up anytime because "He could talk the devil into setting himself on fire."
* Roland, Cuthbert, and Alain inflicting ''two'' [[CurbStompBattle Curb Stomp Battles]] against a total of two hundred of Farson's men in quick succession. In the first, fourty-or-so of Farson's local recruits are riding to join up with the rest of their force, and are wary of an ambush while they ride through the obscuring Bad Grass. Once they get to open desert however, they relax and begin to string out. The ka-tet begin with throwing knives and slingshots to quietly take out two or three at a time of the riders at the rear. They take out a third of them before they get unlucky and are noticed; at which point they starting riding pell-mell through the rest of them, guns blazing. Their opponents are barely able to get a single shot off before they are all cut down. In the second, the trio ride - unchallenged - into the camp where the oil tankers are held, and use their firecrackers and a machine gun taken from the first battle to blow up every single tanker in a single pass. They then turn and ride for the box canyon where the thinny is, set alight the brush covering the entrance once their hundred pursuers are inside, and watch from a cleft in the rock wall while the entire force at first panics, then becomes bewitched by the thinny, and start walking through it to their deaths.
