* While still a horrible place to live, the Imperium is ALighterShadeOfGrey noticeably more heroic than in canon. Despite being weakened and scattered by 10,000 years of decline, the ideals of the great crusade are not yet dead, and human decency has not yet been crushed beneath the heel of pragmatism. Despite everything, the defenders of humanity still carry the spark of the Imperium's original glory, believing in the potential of humanity and the future it can forge.
* Without the need to maintain a status quo this fanfic has gone into the Times of Ending, allowing the author to twist and turn the story to their whims, to the point where they are absolutely able to catch their own followers by surprise even with all of the teasers they have made of various events.

* Perturabo manages to make Olympia into a practical utopia, replacing the corrupt tyrants with democracy and retiring to a small house to enjoy his free time.
* Konrad unites Nostramo behind him and achieves lasting positive change, doing what his canon counterpart never could, and overcoming the Night Haunter to become The King of Night. He even kills Asurmen when the latter comes to kill him in order to prevent his canon future.
* Angron was never attacked by the Eldar and enslaved while weakened. As a result, he utterly crushes the High-Riders when he rebels at the sight of the pits and brings a new age of freedom and brotherhood to Nuceria.
* Mortarion kills his adoptive father without any help, inspiring the ordinary humans to take up arms and protect their world as the Death Guard while he purges Barbarus of its overlords. Later he managed to kill possessed Jaghatai Khan, and defeat Daemon Prince Vulcan, although dying too.
** It seems that Mortarion have either joined or even leads Legion of Damned now.
* Magnus:
** In this timeline, Magnus rejects Tzeentch and Chaos, understanding their true nature and gaining total immunity to its corruptive power.
** Upon waking up after his spirit is trapped for ten thousand years in the Warp, leads the Fifteenth Legion in turning back a Black Crusade and permenantly killing the Greater Daemon of Tzeentch leading it.
** He manages to create a benevolent Warp goddess of justice and retribution, Vindicta, who can help kill daemons permanently much easier and also even saves souls of traitors from Chaos.
* Lorgar Aurelian:
** Walks up to a priest of the Covenant, in front of an entire army of believers, and utters a single word. He then goes on to turn said army to his side and lead a rebellion that eventually eradicates the entire cult.
--> Lorgar: LIAR.
** After the Heresy, he led the Word Bearers to confront a Daemonic invasion of abnormal size which culminated in a FinalBattle at Khur, where he singlehandedly took on the four Greater Daemons - one from each of the Dark Gods - leading it, and succeeded in banishing them back into the Warp and stopping their forces dead in their tracks.
** Dragged into the Warp at Khur, he went on to battle the forces of Chaos for the next ten thousand years in the Immaterium without pause or relent, and still had enough strength and conviction to confront his Daemon Primarch brother Lion El'Jonson rushing to Cypher's aid in the Webway.
** At the climax of the Angel War, at the Battle of Lupercal Gate, he and Ephrael Stern were able to use the Sword That Was Promised to not only kill Daemon Primarch Sanguinius (who planned the whole thing so he could sit on the Golden Throne and taint the Astronomicon), but destroy his essence so utterly with his power he is KilledOffForReal and can never come back. They also managed to swing the Sword at Slaanesh when shi appeared and confronted them in an interstice between the Materium and Immaterium just as they cut Sanguinius' head off, frightening the dark god into retreating from the Sol system entirely and even inflicting a small wound which forever marred hir 'perfect' visage, leaving Slaanesh in a state of impotent pain, fear and rage.
*** And to cap it all off, the victorious survivors of the Angel War in Holy Terra would acclaim Lorgar as Warmaster, a worthy inheritor to Horus as a paragon leading Humanity. With Lorgar helming the Imperium the future of the Imperium, while still daunting in the face of all the horrors and menaces bearing down upon them in its DarkestHour, looks brighter and more secured.
* Vulkan stared at the hidden nature of the Chaos Gods, and instead of going mad or embracing the worship of Chaos, he swore to never kneel to the Gods. And if his status post-Heresy and post-ascension are any indication, he might just be on his way to not only become a god himself, but also well on his way to usurp the other four.
* Alpharius and Omegon united two fleets, which were mortal enemies, through careful machinations and the use of outside threats to force unity. By the end of the Twin's gambit, they had gone from killing one another on sight to swearing undying loyalty to mankind and the Hydra.
** During the Heresy, Omegon goes on a journey across time and space to deliver Ollanius Persson to the Emperor, an act that all four Chaos Gods were desperate to prevent more than anything else in the war, throwing cultists, xenos, traitor Astartes, and demons at them in vain. The Gods ultimately resorted to unleashing Aetaos'rau'keres, one of the earliest Lords of Change who predated and even nearly matched the power of Tzeentch, who nevertheless was defeated by Omegon in spite its power and attempts at a BreakingSpeech. Ultimately, all the Chaos Gods' efforts amounted to a spectacular failure, and Ollanius arrived on Terra in time to make a difference in the final hours of the Roboutian Heresy.
--> Aetaos'rau'keres: You are surrounded by lies and deceit. Every step you take only bring you further into darkness. Yet despite this, you persist. Why?! You know the truth now! You have seen the true face of the universe! You know of Chaos, you know that all your father told Mankind are lies! So why do you persist? Why do you still cling to your pathetic code, your pitiful dreams?! It is all a lie, so why will you not fall?!
--> Omegon: Because I am not a lie!

* Dark Angels
** The Dark Angels fill the space that the Word Bearers filled in cannon in seeding the fall of their brothers to chaos, and show all the skill in that planning to be expected of champions of Tzeentch.
** A superb example of their manipulation skills can be seen within the first chapter of the cadian apocalyse. To weaken the imperial strategic command they staged an attack on Kasr Tyrok during a strategic muster to kill off most of the high command in-system, incluiding the Triarch of the cadian Iron cage, Khorius Rex. To cap it all off its replacement was also a pawn of the Dark angels, and none other than Ursakar E. Creed. If it wasn't for Ciaphas Cain's actions the entire war would have been lost.

* Emperor's Children
** While what Lucius the Reborn went through over the course of the Bleeding War was tragic and traumatic, none of it diminished his prowess with his blade. When he and his Legion was rescued and later participated in the final phase of the Siege of Terra to relieve the Loyalists, Lucius made planet-fall with the other Loyalist forces and acted as an independent element, compelled by mysterious visions implied to be sent by the Emperor himself to fight in defense of important heroes and champions in the other loyalist Legions and ensure that they survive the Heresy, or fight and kill those from the Traitor Legions who must die to save Terra if not the entire Imperium. All the while he endured wounds that would had killed any other Astarte, and may had even got killed several times, but somehow managed to survive or resurrect thanks to sheer force of will and/or intervention to keep fighting, which only served to spook the Traitor forces and spread his legend among the Loyalists. His last depicted victory is described as his most impressive, where he managed to kill a Battle Titan among the traitor forces by cutting through the thin armour of its metal foot, battling its way up to the decks, kill off its crew and making its reactor core go critical right in the middle of Traitor forces. He was never seen again after the Heresy, presumably vaporized by the dying Titan's explosive meltdown, and in contrast to his canon self is well-revered by the Emperor's Children and the rest of the Imperium as one of their greatest heroes. And sure enough, he returns once more during the Angel War, where it is all but stated he is a Perpetual.

* Iron Warriors
** The Iron Warriors alongside the Sons of Horus bore the brunt of the fighting in the heresy. Across their garrison worlds they proved themselves to be masters of defensive warfare, turning cake walks and easy conquests into meat grinders that killed thousands of traitor legionaries. In particular they showed a masterful understanding of the Imperial Fists psychology as they slowly fell to Khorne, making them bleed in battles across the heresy.
** The Siege of Shadenhold deserves particular mention: Under his leadership and his ingeniously-designed Shadenhold fortress, Warsmith Barabas Dantioch and the few Astartes and Human soldiers he have under his command managed to hold off a significant portion of the traitorous Imperial Fists legion - which consisted of thousands of traitor Astartes, millions of Human troops and even several renegade Titans legions - for more than a standard Terran year. Even Rogal Dorn's personal leadership was not enough to break the siege, and in the end Barabas costed him a tenth of his entire Legion just to take Shadenhold, and even that victory was rendered hollow by Barabas activating its self-destruct and denying the Imperial Fists their prize, while Barabas escaped with his men via teleportation to a ship in orbit. Though he vanished from history after the battle, Barabas became a legend among the Iron Warriors for this incredible feat.
*** And the reason WHY he disappeared made him even more awesome: somehow, his teleport sent him into Ultramar, where he linked up with the trapped World Eaters and Word bearers legions. There, at the climax of the Shadow Crusade, he sacrificed himself to activate Dark Glass Station, allowing the two loyalist Legions to escape the Ruinstorm and rejoin the wider war. The two legions' imminent arrival at Terra forced the Arch-Traitor Guilliman to make his desperate attack into the Imperial Palace Throneroom, which ultimately costed him his life and ended the Heresy. While no one will ever know the truth of it, Barabas' heroic actions helped saved two loyalist Legions and ultimately the Imperium.

* White Scars
** The Undying that the White Scars use to replentish their numbers are one of the few things that manage to scare Space Marines universally.

* Space Wolves
** The fact that multiple Space Wolf Warbands have managed to survive and live to fight another day without having taken shelter in the Eye is a masterful testament to the determination and skill of their warrior. In particular Logan Grimnir, in spite of being raised as an Astartes well after the heresy, has spent his entire life fighting outside of the eye. In spite of his objective youth, he has prosecuted the long war against the imperium for longer than most veterans of the heresy in real space without the bizarre flow of time in the warp to either protect him, or spare him from long periods of time.

* Imperial Fists
** Unlike most of the followers of Khorne, the Imperial Fists haven't lost themselves to berserker rage. Even after all this time following him, the rage of the sons of Dorn is still the cold and determined rage that they were always known for. This lucidity speaks to the mental fortitude of the legion in a very direct way.

* Night Lords
** Despite them being the first legion in the heresy to lose their primarch, Sevatar managed to hold the legion together to both thoroughly humiliate the Dark Angels, and avoided much of the psychological scars the loss off a primarch often leaves on a legion.

* Blood Angels
** The Blood Angels are the only traitor legion where every single loyalist member of the legion is known, because every single marine who wasn't present at Signus Prime and cursed by Slaanesh remained loyal to the golden throne and had to be killed at Signus Prime.

* Iron Hands
** Our of all the traitor legions in the heresy, they were the only legion to not forget the bonds of loyalty they held to their fellow traitor legions. They followed the plans Guilliman made for them to the letter and even took overall command of the traitor legions when Guilliman departed to take on Alpharius. Even more impressively, they're the only traitor legion where the bonds of brotherhood between legionaries haven't totally been severed.

* World Eaters
** Unlike the canon Space Wolves, they manage to force the Inquisition to abandon their plans of sterilizing the survivors of Armageddon and forcing them into labor camps to hide Chaos. Resettling them into a peaceful and productive life on a new planet.

* Ultramarines
** Compared to their cannon counterparts in the Sons of Horus, the Ultramarines had a far more challenging path to making their heresy happen. In cannon Horus could use his position of warmaster as a cover for his preparations to rebel, and the warrior lodges to help spread their bekiefs. The Ultramarines had neither, but still managed to build a coalition of legions equal to the loyalists.

* Death Guard
** After the Heresy, the Death Guard has specialized in fighting the wars where even exterminatus would not be enough to end a threat. This means that they regularly fight in the ugliest and most difficult theaters of war in the entire 40k universe. In spite of this, they've still held onto their humanity, and are implied to save whoever it is possible to save from the placed where they fight, recruiting them into the legion where possible, or even having them join the ranks of the mortal support staff of the legion.

* Thousand Sons
** The entire Siege of Terathelion is one long moment of awesome for the Thousand Sons as a garrison of slightly more than a hundred sons of Magnus and their mortal allies led a desperate defense while vastly outnumbered by Sarthoreals black crusade. In the process they showed that even with the blessings of Tzeentch, they still outmatched the Dark Angels as psykers.

* Sons of Horus
** The Mournival lords coming together after Horus death to banish Sanguinius back to the warp, with Abaddon wielding the Talon of Horus and ripping out both of Sanguinius hearts. Four regular space marines against a Daemon Primarch.
** It is noted that Chaos Gods really hate Sons for Horus being saved from their grasp. They do all they could to make their service miserable, but the legion not only endures, but continues to be the greatest of Astartes.
* Garviel Loken survives up to the present day and continues killing clones of Bile, with current purpose to kill the Eldest, .

* Word Bearers
** During the Roboutian Heresy, whereupon Guilliman sacrificed the entirety of his 500 Worlds to trap the Word Bearers and the World Eaters in the Ruinstorm, the Word Bearers not only refuse to let themselves get wiped out by the daemons that are suddenly everywhere, but rallied with the World Eaters Legion to fight/find their way out of it, battling their way through the Ruinstorm one world at a time in what became known as the Shadow Crusade. Along the way, they managed to defeated every Greater Daemon or Daemon Prince that barred their way, earning their eternal enmity while learning many new ways to fight daemonkind that would prove useful post-Heresy. Although they would lose many to the Ruinstorm and come close to being overwhelmed at several points, they not only managed to survive against all odds, but managed to escape in time to participate in the final stage of the Siege of Terra, their imminent arrival forcing the Arch-Traitor to make the desperate final gamble to storm the Imperial Palace that would see the Emperor crippled nigh-unto-death, but not before seeing to it the Arch-Traitor and the Heresy itself is defeated.
** Despite 10,000 years of creeping degradation and the rise of the ecclesiarchy and the faith of the god-emperor, they remain loyal to the Emperor's true ideals and have never given up their belief in humanity.
** Dismantled Goge Vandire's forces and supporters, bringing an end to the age of apostasy.

* Salamanders
** The fact that the Salamanders even have a shot at achieving Vulkans mad quest to become a new Chaos God of tyranny and greed is itself an impressive feat. Especially as they've succeeded to such an extent that Vulkan has managed to spawn some of his very own daemons.

* Raven Guard
** The Raven Guard surviving at all with the number of enemies they've racked up over the years is an incredibly impressive feat. They've made an enemy of every single other traitor legion, offended all of the chaos gods, and violated every taboo that even chaos has. But they still manage to hold on, and even grow in power in that time. It's meant introducing NightmareFuel more impressive than the cannon 40k universe even managed a lot of the time. But no one can deny they're impressive.

* Alpha Legion
** When the Alpha Legion learnt of the threat of the Cabal and their plans to make sure that the Imperium would lose the Roboutian Heresy - having been mislead into thinking that the fall of Humankind would take Chaos with them - the Alpha Legion made the decision to tackle the threat alone, knowing that the Imperium cannot spare any resource to take on the Cabal and hold the line against the Traitor Legions at the same time. Thus, while a portion of the Alpha Legion would fight in the Heresy, the rest fought against the Cabal across the Galaxy in what would be called 'the Unremembered War'. Despite the vast resources and meticulous planning the Cabal had invested into making sure Guilliman wins, the Alpha Legion manages to prevail, uncovering and dismantling the organization over the course and after the Heresy, making sure that the galaxy-spanning, multi-million years old conspiracy would never threaten Humankind again and robbing Chaos of a very powerful UnwittingPawn. No one would know the monumental efforts and sacrifices the Alpha Legion made to defeat the Cabal, but the Alpha Legionnaires know the necessity of maintaining secrecy and are fine with it.
** The portion of the Alpha Legion that fought the Traitors during the Heresy made the Traitors' lives Hell over the course of the conflict, scattering across the Galaxy after escaping the Drop Site Massacre and like the Night Lords hid themselves on Loyalist worlds and behind enemy territory, clandestinely rallying, organizing, training and supporting Loyalist resistance in countless star sectors defying the Traitor Legions' advance or resisting their occupation. Even one or a few Legionnaires' involvement proved sufficient to turn the tide of whole battles and gave many a fighting chance. The Traitor Legions were forced to spent significant numbers of troops in hunting down and rooting out these Alpha Legionnaires and their cells, with the Alpha Legion managing to outfox them in every turn. And where they ran out of tricks, they still stand their ground and fight to the bitter end to deprive the Traitor forces of valuable time and resources, as demonstrated by Strikemaster Kernax Voldorius and his Legionnaires' LastStand on the world they were finally cornered against the traitor White Scars force hunting them, having already hurt them badly with trap after trap, ambush after ambush.
** The Alpha Legion is mentioned at one point as the only Loyalist Legion who could consistently match and even outwit the ever-scheming, Tzeentch-aligned Dark Angels Legion. Their conflicts are said to be 'sights to behold', as it always result in truly spectacular battles and wars with layers after layers after layers of traps, feints, plans and counter-plans.

Just the fact that this one, singular Astartes warrior has his own dedicated folder when not even the other Primarchs have this honor is a testament and foreshadowing to just how badass this one hero truly is.
----
* Believed by the Alpha Legion to be one of, if not the, greatest tacticians in the galaxy. They consider his armor inscribed with strategies to be "a prize worthy of a primarch."
* Led and rallied the surviving loyalist traitors on Itsvaan III against their legions, achieving "kill-ratios never seen before during the Great Crusade, and rarely equalled during the Heresy" despite being massively outnumbered and outgunned.
* Turned the infinitesimal remainder of his forces that escaped Itsvaan into a strike team that rallied loyalists and traitor alike to their banner and saved entire worlds through precision assaults on traitor forces.
* Later left on a solo journey, surviving 10,000 years despite having no support and being one of the most hated enemies of Chaos and the traitor legions.
* After discovering what is heavily implied to be Malal's tomb and being thrown back in time with a fragment of it's power, he goes on to become The Sacrificed Son, retaining his core humanity despite his new nature, and spends 10,000 years weakening the Ultramarines from within. With no one, not even the Dark Gods having any clue of his true identity.
* He and the Alpha Legion created the Ascended One through the hypnosis of a volunteer Alpha legionary and a fragment of Thiel's power. They then arranged for the AO's ship to detonate during his confrontation with Corax, resulting in the banishment of Corax and the destruction of two Black Crusades.
* Manipulates the inhabitants of the Ruinstorm into attacking Guilliman, getting many threats to the Imperium killed in the process.
* The Dark Gods reaction to the reveal that he is not Marius Gage: "Far away, in the Realms of Chaos, the clashing of blades and the spilling of blood stopped on the Plains of Slaughter. The Court of Change fell silent. The children of Nurgle stopped their games in their father's Garden. The great debaucheries in the Silver Palace of Slaanesh paused." Thiel derailed Chaos's plans so hard that even the gods and their servants couldn't do anything but gape in shock and awe.
* He is completely unaffected by the resurrected Guilliman's orders, which have brought the other Chaos Lords of the Black Crusade their knees.
* Holds his own against Guilliman for a few minutes despite being up against a being potentially as powerful, if not more so, as the Emperor.
* Reveals that he had planted a warp-based super-bomb earlier in the assault and that he was just buying time - his true goal, all along, was nothing short of BLOWING UP MACRAGGE. The blast destroys the planet and almost all of the forces/tools Guilliman has spent 10,000 years preparing, forcing the Dark Master of Chaos to grab what he can and run with his tail between his legs. He even taunts Guilliman about how Alpharius pulled the same trick during the Heresy and yet he still fell for it a second time.
** An imperial psyker's mad ramblings afterwards made it clear it didn't just ruin Roboute's plans - it completely changed history/fate itself. Rather than an inevitable Chaos victory under Roboute, Aeonid Thiel made it possible for the Imperium to win the FinalBattle against Roboute, Chaos and all other threats assailing them in the Times of Ending.
* Fades away watching the no-longer distorted stars with a smile while the planet falls apart around him.
* Upon death, the core of his identity/soul is cast back in time into a newborn son, who would grow up under the rule of Roboute Guilliman, and be inducted into the Ultramarines Legion during the Great Crusade...
--> "And the name of that child, now and forever, was Aeonid Thiel."

* The Emperor
** His ThanatosGambit is one. By being killed by Lorgar, he scatters his power throughout the galaxy and its history, creating every Living Saint to have ever lived who would help give Humanity a fighting chance to survive the Time of Endings. Moreover, with his death he managed to make Chaos Gods killable, as for all his rejection of divinity he did become god, and as the Warp operates by ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve by letting himself be killed by Lorgar he made deicide possible if one has the proper means to do so, giving Humanity the means to defeat the Ruinous Powers which was previously highly unlikely.
** The Emperor rejecting godhood in itself is one. He could had lived free from the torment of the Golden Throne, or got himself the power to finally save Humanity, but he knew the risks are too great that he might turn into a Power which causes Humanity harm like the other gods or nascent gods of the Warp, and in the end chose death rather than deification to give Humanity their chance of surviving the grim darkness of the far future. Few would had the courage and resolve to make a similar selfless choice.
** A Flashback to the distant past of Old Earth revealed he and Ollanius to be the ones who took out a cabal of mad sorceror-kings who put many noble sages into a FateWorseThanDeath inside a great tower to decipher the reality-warping lore of Enucia, which became the basis of the Tower of Babel legend. The real awesome part was what the Emperor chose to do: At first, he wanted to callously seize the research for himself against the objections of Ollanius... then he thought about the implications and realises to his horror what he was going to do was unconscionable even by the standards of the setting. Choosing to do better, he agreed with Ollanius to destroy the tower, a choice which ultimately contributed to the AdaptationalNiceGuy he became in the RH-verse by the time of the Great Crusade who was a much better parent to his Primarch sons and a much better leader in general for Humanity.

* Luther
** Unlike canon he's completely loyal, being the knight in shining armor and refusing to give in to treachery even when faced with the promises and wrath of Chaos.
** Together with Cypher he (mostly) killed the Ouroboros, which is implied to predate the chaos gods themselves, perhaps even being the first corruption of the warp. In other words: Luther, not even a full astarte, took down what may well be the RH equivalent of Satan.
** Fighting a Daemon Primarch one-on-one and almost winning. Bonus points for not even having fully recovered from his battle with the Ouroboros before the duel happened. It's implied by Cypher that Luther at his best would have won, even on his own.
** Even 10,000 years later, his memory is an inspiration for Cypher and the fallen. Reminding the former that there is good and hope in the galaxy despite ten millennia of degradation and loss.

* Ollanius Persson
** Though unmentioned in the initial description of the war, Alpha Legion's chapter reveals he was still very much alive, and a figure of importance such that the Chaos Gods were desperate to make sure he, a Perpetual nearly as old as the Emperor, did not join him on Terra. Thanks to the efforts of Omegon and Alpha Legion though, Ollanius was able to reach the Emperor just ahead of Roboute and his followers. The actual confrontation between Ollanius and Roboute lasts for all of a moment, as Roboute is strong enough to permanently kill even a Perpetual and he writes the whole encounter off as a desperate and futile attempt at delaying the inevitable, unaware that Ollanius's actions would buy Fulgrim the precious seconds necessary to save the Emperor.
** Much later on, it is revealed that Ollanius served as the will-eventually-be-Emperor's first Warmaster in battles across ancient Terra, and was single-handedly responsible for helping the Emperor experience a pre-emptive HeelRealization that led him to become the AdaptationalNiceGuy that he is in the story and contributed to life in the Imperium not being quite as miserable as it is in canon. [[spoiler: Granted it also lead to a nightmarish EnemyWithout.]]

* The Officio Assassinorum
** Unlike many of the other initial fronts to be featured during the Angel War, the war host of the Innocent is not intercepted by any force featuring "main" or even secondary characters. On top of that, in spite of its in-universe status as TheDreaded, the Imperium's assassins are often subjected to TheWorfEffect in lore, being unable to kill some significant threat to establish that yes, it *is* a big threat. In spite of that, as well as being significantly understaffed, Grand Master Fadix mounts a successful defense of the temple with members of each Assassin school given their own moment of awesome as they almost casually dismantle the Innocents' forces.
* For around ten thousand years, the Martian Collective has been able to fight the Haydesian Kingdoms to a stalemate when normal armies have been shattered even attempting the same, and the Collective has been able to advance their technology to keep up with the Haydesian Kingdoms with things like augmented blanks, new super soldiers, semi-sentient nano machines and being able to wield the power of the sun. And with the Haydesian Kingdoms largely dealt with in the Terran Crucible, they can now bring their collective knowledge and combined intellect to help the Imperium in the Times of Ending.

* Ciaphas Cain
** Literally EVERYTHING Ciaphas Cain did and became in "The Cadian Apocalypse". Whatever depreciating thoughts he had of himself, he had by this point truly earned his title and legend as 'HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!'
** In "The Cadian Apocalypse Part 3", Cain figures out and prevents he Dark Angels' plan, then rallies the demoralised Imperials after they receive word of the Emperor's death and prevented a total collapse of Imperial morale. Near the climax of the story, he is revived by a shard of the Emperor and becomes an Imperial Saint, rallying the Imperials to stop the Dark Angels' plot to mess with the Cadian Pylons. Incidentally, he also freed the Lord of Wraiths who killed him and his vengeful spectres from the Dark Angels' enslavement, leading to its own awesome moment.
--> "On your feet, Commissar," I told him. "Your duty is not yet done."
--> Slowly, he stood up, and we locked gazes for a moment. Then he threw his head back:
--> "MEN OF TANITH!" bellowed the specter of Ibram Gaunt. "DO YOU WANT TO LIVE FOREVER?"
--> It was clearly an old war-cry, something which made sense only to those who had fought and died together on that doomed world. Despite the bitter irony of the words, the ghosts raised their ethereal voices in reply, a choir of wrathful defiance that promised death to those who had enslaved them for so long.
** And to top that, in "The Cadian Apocalypse Part 4", he and his allies are faced with Sigismund the Destroyer, who had ascended into a Daemon Prince, and managed to hold their own against a being who even before ascension had been slaughter imperial heroes, champions and forces left and right. Ciaphas Cain would not only denounce him and his patron for the evil they represent, he wins the duel with Eldrad's and Ibram Gaunt's timely assistance, dealing a decisive blow which lay the Destroyer low and proceeded to butcher him with his chainsword to banish him back into the Warp, all the while Sigismund have a VillainousBreakdown of epic proportions.
** Moreover, he's implied to become an Anathema to Khorne, and promises to him through Sigismund that he'll kill him. There's also an implication it was a shard of the Emperor speaking, meaning He will come for the Dark Gods.

* Sigismund the Destroyer
** In a very twisted way, Sigismund's real motive for The Breaking. By ripping and tearing his way to Khorne's own blacksmith underneath the Skull Throne, Sigismund discovered how Guilliman had secretly bound Rogal Dorn's will to himself during the Heresy. Shattering the Imperial Fists and driving Dorn into Daemonhood through sheer rage? The countless Blood Crusades? Sigismund sacrificing his own life to Dorn's fury? All to break Guilliman's chains and forever devote Dorn and his sons to the Blood God. And Khorne is clearly impressed: when Dorn smashes Sigismund into a gory puddle, the Destroyer is immediately reborn as a Daemon Prince. Rogal Dorn even manages to see reason and spare Sigismund for the time being.
-->"As for you, my treacherous, most devoted son … Your skull and soul belong to Khorne. Until the day you fail him, I shall hold back my punishment for your actions; but on the day your blade is no longer judged worthy, the fullness of my wrath shall descend upon you. Now, let us finish making this world into an altar to the God of War, in celebration of our liberation ! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD ! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE !"
