Some time after the end of the [[Anime/GirlsUndPanzer 63rd National High School Sensha-dō Tournament]], Oarai celebrates their victory with an exhibition match, featuring Oarai teamed up with Chi-Ha-Tan Academy against St. Gloriana and Pravda. After the match, they return to their school ship to find out that despite their victory, the school is still being closed down. Miho and the Senshado team must find a way to win back their victory and reestablish Oarai.

The movie was originally [[https://twitter.com/garupan/status/328412701674049536 announced]] for release in 2014, but got pushed back to Summer 2015 and then finally ''Girls und Panzer der Film'' was released on November 21, 2015 in 77 theaters across Japan. In keeping with this anime's surprising popularity, in spite of a relatively limited release, [[https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-08-14/girls-and-panzer-film-tops-2.5-billion-yen-at-box-office/.120102 the movie's current gross is over 2.5 billion yen with over 1.4 million tickets sold at the Japan Box Office as of August 13, 2017]]. It was, in fact, still playing in some theaters the day the Blu Ray was released. It's currently ranked 3rd highest grossing late-night TV anime based movie behind ''Anime/LoveLive The School Idol Movie'' and ''Anime/SwordArtOnlineTheMovieOrdinalScale''.

The home video releases include the OVA, showing what happened to Alice after the movie ended. [[BadExportForYou Do note that it's not released in other countries]].

''If you are looking for tropes from the original television show, '''[[Anime/GirlsUndPanzer click here.]]'''''
----
!! This show contains examples of:

* OneDimensionalThinking: Rabbit Team briefly experiences this after loosing the [[spoiler:Ferris Wheel of Death]]. {{Lampshaded}} when Azusa asks, "Wait, why are we running away in a straight line?"
* TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects: Like in the show, the tanks are explicitly CGI compared to the 2D animation style of the characters. That said, when panning shots one characters and tanks, some scenes have the characters also CGI-animated, most notably when Anchovy gets out of her [=CV33=] when scouting on top of a derelict roller coaster in the theme park.
* AccidentalAimingSkills: Momo's [[ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy terrible aim]] actually helps her destroy Rosehip's Crusader tank.
* AdmiringTheAbomination: Upon finding out that a [[spoiler:Morser-Karl]] is dropping high-explosive shells on them, Yukari's face is full of fan-girl excitement rather than dread.
* AFriendInNeed: When she finds out that Oarai is taking their eight tanks up against the University team's 30, Darjeeling [[spoiler: puts out [[GondorCallsForAid a call for help]] to the other high school teams.]]
* ArtisticLicensePhysics: The film is FULL of moments of tanks pulling off moves that would be physically impossible, such as:
** Tanks being able to cross bridges and structures that would never be able to hold their weight. e.g. A 100 ton [[spoiler:T28 Super Heavy Tank]] crossing a brick arch bridge.
** A plane taking off despite going over its maximum load capacity ([[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Saori as well).
** A light tank doing a "side wheelie" after ''losing one side of their suspension'' and with ''no tracks''[[note]]though the tank in question could actually drive without tracks, however the procedure to do this involved a lot more than just sticking a steering wheel in a hole and it could very much not do a side wheelie[[/note]]
** A tankette going fast enough to ''skip off water''.
** Tanks ramping off to leap across far-too-wide rivers and ravines.
** Tanks, particularly heavy ones like the Tiger and the Pershing, going at speeds and pulling off driving stunts that are more at home in ''Film/TheFastAndTheFurious'' series.
** [[ItMakesSenseInContext The Ferris Wheel]]. Everything about the Ferris Wheel.
** How the tanks react to getting shot would be this in real life, [[JustifiedTrope but would make sense in this series' setting]]. Since the shells are not actually penetrating the tank's armor, the kinetic energy of each shell still has to go somewhere. Thus, we see tanks getting hit by huge cannons getting thrown across streets due to the kinetic impact and transfer.
* AtArmsLength: A tank version. When Rabbit Team attempts to fight Nonna's IS-2 the [[ContinuityNod same way they did against Kuromorimine's Jagdtiger]], Nonna simply pushes them away and jams her tank's gun in front at them, preventing them from getting any closer.
* AttackAttackAttack:
** Chi-Ha-Tan Academy's [[LeeroyJenkins method of using this]] is their FatalFlaw.
** Rosehip uses this as her manner of attack in her [[FragileSpeedster Crusader cruiser tank]], to the point where Darjeeling has to routinely call her back to avoid being eliminated too quickly.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: Darjeeling and her Churchill Mk.VII crew attack one of the [[spoiler:T28 Super Heavy Tank]]'s weak point. They had to lodge themselves under a bridge to get a hit on its ''underbelly armor''.
* AttackAttackRetreatRetreat: Rosehip in her Crusader cruiser tank has a tendency to charge-head first into the enemy recklessly, with Darjeeling having to tell her to retreat.
-->'''Rosehip:''' Why you little-!\
''[[[spoiler:Morser-Karl]] shell explodes right next to it, causing the Crusader to jump a few feet into the air]''\
'''Darjeeling:''' ''[nonchalantly]'' Rosehip, come back.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Yukari puts her knowledge on armored fighting vehicles to use on figuring out what is dropping high-explosive bombs from the sky. She considers the Brummbär, but thinks the explosion size is too big for that vehicle's armament. She then recalls there was no rocket sounds as the shells drop so it couldn't be a Sturmtiger. Then considering the shell payload would mean that the shell's weight would be about a ton. She then narrows down the options to the [[spoiler:Morser-Karl]].
* BadassBoast: "Yesterday's foes are today's friends!" (one of the series' main themes) is ''[[LampshadeHanging actually]]'' used as a boast. [[spoiler: Followed by "The twenty-two brave steel lions are here!"]]
* BadassDriver:
** Mikko, the driver of Continuation High's BT-42 pulls off crazy stunts, running circles around the University's Pershings. [[spoiler:Even getting detracked didn't stop her thanks to the BT-42's christie suspension]].
** The driver of Alice's Centurion Mark I. Able to strafe around the much smaller and nimbler tanks surrounding it as it takes each of them out in one shot.
* {{BFG}}: [[spoiler:The University Team have the ''Morser-Karl'' with its '''600 mm siege mortar''']].
* BrickJoke: The [=OVA=] bundled with the movie includes the Oarai girls showing to [[spoiler:Alice]] many of the weird elective courses that were [[FreezeFrameBonus briefly]] mentioned in ''episode 1''.
* CasualDangerDialogue: The ''opening quotes'' of the movie.
-->'''Darjeeling''': ''[Inside the Churchill]'' The tea stalk is standing up. Did you know this English saying: "If the tea stalk is standing, a great guest shall arrive."\
'''Pekoe''': Forgive me, but they're already here...Regardless of whether they're "great" or not...\
''[Pan outside as we see St. Gloriana heavily surrounded and shot at by Oarai and Chi-Ha-Tan.]''
* TheCavalry: There are many instances in the movie.
** During the opening exhibition match, Team St. Gloriana is pinned by Ōarai and Chi-Ha-Tan. After Ōarai's defense lines fall however, Pravda and a platoon of Crusader tanks swoop in and extract Gloriana from their position.
** Ōarai is forced into an ''[[TheresNoKillLikeOverkill 8 vs 30 annihilation battle]]'', against a professional team. The attempt to curb-stomp them fails when [[spoiler:''all'' the other schools send tank crews to [[LoopholeAbuse "temporarily]] [[RefugeInAudacity transfer"]] into Ōarai to help them overcome those insuperable odds, actually stating ''over the open radio'' that [[LampshadeHanging yesterday's enemy is today's friend]]: to drive the point home, the soundtrack for that scene is a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi5g7SRcmg4 medley]] of all the schools' {{Leitmotif}}s, finally mixing up in the very own [[TrueCompanions Sensha-do March]] itself]].
** PlayedForLaughs when Ooarai's main force is completely encircled and Chi-Ha-Tan Academy performs its trademark LeeroyJenkins in an attempt to drive a wedge into the enemy's formation and allow their allies to get out. Unfortunately, all that the enemy's tanks have to do is to nonchalantly move slightly to the side and let the momentum of Chi-Ha-Tan's tanks drift them into the killzone.
* ChekhovsGun: [[spoiler:Alice's love of Bokos cost her a clean shot on Anglerfish's Panzer IV.]]
* ChekhovsGunman: Most of the characters introduced in the movie have been mentioned in passing in the anime and the [=OVAs=]. Only Tsuji Kota, the [=MEXT=] official, briefly appears in the anime proper. To elaborate
** There's a brief shot of Chi-Ha-Tan High School's tanks being shown in shambles [[CurbStompBattle after suffering a crushing defeat]] [[FinalBoss from Kuromorimine]] during episode 6 of the anime.
** In ''The Real Anzio Battle'' [=OVA=], Miho mentions having a friendly match with Continuation High during her time in Kuromorimine.
** The Shimada school of Sensha-do is mentioned by Anchovy in the same [=OVA=].
** Mika and Nishi were mentioned as two of the people who sent congratulatory letters to Oarai during the 6th [=OVA=].
* ContinuityNod: There is a ''lot'' to the original show.
** When the opening exhibition match takes place in Oarai, Pravda-Gloriana team's tanks hit a man's house. Said man was the ''same one'' who had his house wrecked the last time we saw a match at Oarai.
** The same Matilda II crew parked outside the raising garage waiting for the Type 89 to expose itself. [[spoiler:The Type 89 showed up behind ''again'', which the Matilda's commander expected. She didn't expect the Type 95 Ha-Go on her right though]].
** Rabbit team tried the same strategy they did with the Jagdtiger on Pravda's IS-2. [[spoiler:It did not end as well]]. See also the entry under HopeSpot below.
** Turtle team propping up Mallard team to shoot downward at a T-34 in a similar concept when the Hetzer used its shape to prop up the [[spoiler:Maus]].
** Carpaccio calls Caesar "[[EmbarrassingNickname Taka-Chan]]", which Caesar tries to correct in front of her team.
** Alisa's offhand mention of a "Takashi" in Episode 6 of the show comes back and bites her hard by Rabbit Team.
-->'''Alisa:''' How did you guys know about it anyways?
** When Duck Team say they have a plan to take out the [[spoiler:Morser-Karl]], Momo brings back some memories on the last time Turtle and Duck team had an idea.
-->'''Momo:''' Are we getting on top of it again?
** Duck Team again tries pushing against an enemy tank's turret traverse WITH GUTS! We see Shinobu's "[=WTH=]-are-you-doing?" reaction as she looks at Noriko and Sasaki and Taeko flat out stating that ''pushing the tank turret from the inside'' doesn't do anything.
** In the credits, Nonna is singing Katyusha to sleep ''in her Aerosan'' again, with Clara playing a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balalaika Balalaika]]
** The FinalBattle taking place after a very heavy rain is a callback to how Nakajima mentions that could help [[MultiTrackDrifting drifting a tank]] back in episode 10.
** BlinkAndYouMissIt, but during the end credits, Sodoko and Mako (stated in episode 9 to both have 20/20 eyesight) spot [[spoiler:Oarai Schoolcarrier]] a few frames before the rest of the girls.
* CoolCar: The Automobile club is shown to own a Toyota Soarer, which has been partially converted to racing standard.
* CorruptBureaucrat: The Head of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) School Carriers Department who reneges on his promise [[spoiler: not to close Ooarai]] in the movie. When the Sensha-do Federation strongarms him into allowing one more match to [[spoiler: decide Ooarai's fate]], he uses his power to stack the deck to ludicrous levels. He chooses the University Team as their opponents, a team that has already beaten adult teams. He makes it an annihilation match when Ooarai is outnumbered by 30 to 8 with vastly inferior equipment. He signs the paperwork to allow them to field the [[spoiler: Morser-Karl siege mortar]] despite it not even loosely qualifying as an [=AFV=] let alone a tank. Basically if not for the [[HonorBeforeReason captain]] of the University Team [[ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight allowing]] [[spoiler: Ooarai reinforcements]], it would have been a CurbStompBattle.
* CrackDefeat: [[spoiler:The University teams, headed by the best Sensha-do commanders from Japan's universities as well as Child Prodigy Alice Shimada field a full 30 tank team against Ōarai's 8 tanks, including numerous Pershings, a Mark 1 Centurion, a T28 Super Heavy tank and even a Morser-Karl. It takes the addition of all the rival schools Ōarai has faced so far joining in to make up the numbers for their side.]]
* CrazyEnoughToWork: All of the plans the high school teams pull off are, to put mildly, very insane. Notable examples are...
** "Operation: Kill Serve": [[spoiler:Ōarai's Hetzer using Anzio's [=CV33=] as a ramp to fly up to the barrel of the Morser-karl and land a shot right through it in a stunt that blows all previous examples out the water]].
** "Operation Mifune": [[spoiler: The Rabbit Team using a ferris wheel to rescue the other high school tank units from an encirclement.]]
** "Operation T-Square": [[spoiler: Anzio making their [=CV 33=] tankette skip across a body of water to escape a pursuing Pershing tank.]]
* DeathGlare: Maho gives one to Katyusha when she claims she's the only suitable commander.
* DespairEventHorizon: For most of the girls, having [[spoiler:their school closed ''and sold for scrap'']] despite all their efforts in the series was understandably depressing, but for Momo and the Sodokos, it qualified as this trope. They needed a HopeBringer to recover.
* {{Determinator}}:
** Despite heading face-first into an annihilation battle outnumbered 3-to-1, Miho never seemed to waver in accepting the challenge if it means being able to [[spoiler:save Oarai]].
-->'''Miho:''' ''[[BadassBoast There's no path a tank cannot traverse]]! Tanks can move forward even in a pyroclastic flow... [[BadassCreed No matter how tough it is, we must think of a way to overcome]]!''
** [[spoiler: Continuation High won't stop until the tank cannot possibly go any further, no matter how much damage it needs to take.]]
* DiegeticSwitch: Mika plays "Säkkijärven Polkka" on her ''kantele'' along with the non-diegetic soundtrack.
* DownToTheLastPlay: In spite of the University team's commanders claim that it will be an easy victory, by the time of the final showdown, [[spoiler: of the sixty machines that joined the match, only five remain. And in the end, only one is still standing: Maho's Tiger.]]
* DreamTeam: [[spoiler:The match against Unversity Team has Oarai consisting with all the commanders, vice-commanders, and other important people from their rival schools to build up a team of 30 tanks. The University team is similarly described as being formed from the cream of the crop of different University tankery teams, but by this point in the film, the audience has only seen their Commander.]]
* EarnYourHappyEnding: The film [[spoiler: [[HappyEndingOverride had the school threatened with shutdown]] [[MovingTheGoalposts despite Oorai's victory.]] It takes team spirit, help from [[GondorCallsForAid every ally they gained over the tournament,]] [[CrazyEnoughToWork madcap plans]], and sheer dumb luck, but Miho and co. manage to beat the odds and save their school again.]]
** And despite [[spoiler:losing the battle, Alice also manages to secure a sponsorship for the Boko museum]].
* EmbarrassingNickname: Katyusha earns one from Leopon when they call her "Kat-Chan"
* ExactWords: The reasoning Kota (the MEXT head of school carriers department) gives to justify why he's reneged on his previous promise to Anzu that Ooarai would stay open if it won the Senshado tournament. He points out that he only said he would ''consider'' not closing the school, and not that it was a guaranteed deal.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Katyusha naming the hill on the battlefield "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Port_Arthur#Battle_of_203_Meter_Hill 203 Hill]]". If she had bothered to learn her history, she would know that [[spoiler:the battle was a ''defeat'' for the Russian forces that held the hill, as they were eventually forced off the hill by a combination of heavy artillery bombardment and constant infantry assaults by the Japanese. In the film, the Ooarai tanks are forced off the hill due to heavy bombardment from the Morser-Karl siege mortar.]] Hippo Team Lampshades how Katyusha is TemptingFate.
* ExplosiveOverclocking:
** Rosehip removes the speed governor on her Crusader tank to move fast enough to take out an M24 Chaffee.
** [[spoiler: Leopon clocks out their Porsche Tiger's motor to catch up with the University Team's Pershings, but their Porsche Tiger's engine starts ''exploding'' and they are written off.]]
* FastballSpecial: A tank version. [[spoiler:Maho's Tiger I fires a blank 88 mm shell right behind Miho's Panzer IV, giving her enough propulsion to ram right into Alice's Centurion and deliver a point-blank shot.]]
* FerrisWheelOfDoom: Rabbit Team shoots a Ferris wheel off its supports, causing it to roll down towards the enemy team's encirclement as a distraction. They call this "Operation Mifune", after the scene in ''Film/NineteenFortyOne1979'', which they had watched the previous night. It works, and the Ooarai team is able to use the confusion to escape. As the wheel slows to a halt and topples over, the girls affectionately thank "Ferris-senpai"/"Ferry-chan" for its help.
* ForgedMessage: Maho is implied to have forged her mother's signature and stamp for Miho's transfer documents.
* FragileSpeedster: The Crusader cruiser tanks of St. Gloriana and M24 Chaffees of University Team have high mobility, but very little armor.
* FrameBreak: Alisa does this when rebutting Rabbit Team's statements about Takashi.
* FreezeFrameBonus:
** Mako shaking in fear while in the "Boko Mansion" ghost-themed ride in the Boko Museum.
** When Anzu and Instructor Chounou try to convince the Federation chairman about Ooarai's plight, [[https://imgur.com/AMpcOUf there's a news article written about it at the center]]. At the other corners, there are several other news article like Anzio is doing a donation drive to fix their P-40 (which explains why it isn't there to aid the Ooarai Compound Team), Pravda's KV-1 was stolen by Jatkosota, and a school named Neutrality High School decides to join the rank of Federation-recognized tankery school teams.
** The controls shown beside Leopon Team driver Tsuchiya are somehow labeled "Stealth" and "[=VTOL=]". Y'know, controls that would be more fitting on a ''stealth aircraft'' like the F-35.
** During the [[spoiler:victory montage after Oarai defeats the University Team]], Pepperoni somehow got herself pasta and Rosehip's crew is seen drinking tea alongside the defeated M24 Chaffee's crew after their TakingYouWithMe.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: Two instances with Rabbit Team which shows Saki staring at a floating butterfly nearby.
* GenderBlenderName: All of the girls from Continuation High School have male (if girly-sounding to a Japanese ear) Finnish names.
* GenreShift: The [[Anime/GirlsUndPanzer original series]] was a fairly realistic [[GamingAndSportsAnimeAndManga sports anime]] about a fictional martial art played with tanks. However, the movie used RuleOfCool at the expense of realism, turning it into a {{Wuxia}} movie, with tanks.
* GeoEffects: Both Oarai and Alice use the amusement park's attractions to their advantage when the opportunity arises, from making a ferris wheel roll to create a distraction, to shooting a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_ship_(ride) pirate ship]] to swing it against a pursuing tank, and even shooting a rocket to launch it against [[spoiler:Miho]].
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Miho and Alice both loved a stuffed bear named "Boko".
* GondorCallsForAid: The big match in TheMovie. Following their latest bet to [[spoiler:save the school again]], Ooarai's rag-tag eight tanks are pit against a team of '''30''', in an annihilation match (so their usual method of directly gunning for the flag tank is unusable). All hope seems lost... until [[spoiler:twenty-two more tanks show up, crewed by "short-term Ooarai transfer students" made up of [[DefeatMeansFriendship all of their opponents from the series]] (plus the [[ChekhovsGunman series-mentioned but movie-introduced]] Chi-Ha-Tan and Continuation High teams) to boost the roster to a more equal 30 v 30 match. The Chi-Ha girls even brought twenty-two tanks by themselves just to help Miho, until Darjeeling reminded them that they're supposed to only bring six to make equal teams.]]
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: In an anime with multi-cultural schools, it is unavoidable.
** GratuitousEnglish: Kay and Alisa from Saunders sometimes switch to English.
** GratuitousRussian: Averted by Nonna and Clara, who regularly converse in full Russian even though they could easily do so in Japanese, to Katyusha's annoyance. Played straight by the other Pravda girls who let off a hearty "Ura!" when they take Hill 203.
* HappyEndingOverride: The film basically makes Oarai's victory irrelevant since the MEXT decides to [[spoiler:close Ooarai anyways]]. Thankfully, the students get a second chance to [[spoiler:save the school together with all the friends/rivals they made during the tournament]].
* HeroicSacrifice:
** When Company "Sunflower" gets encircled on the hill and attempts to breakout, the majority of [[spoiler:Pravda]] volunteered to stay behind to stave off the incoming enemy tanks. RuleOfDrama plays up real high in this scene to make it more intense.
** [[spoiler:Darjeeling pulls one off in order to destroy the T28 Super Heavy Tank; hitting the weak spot meant leaving themselves unable to dodge]].
* HonorBeforeReason: Chi-Ha-Tan's reason behind their [[LeeroyJenkins attacking method]] is saying it is their tradition.
* HopeSpot: The Rabbit Team is facing Nonna's IS-2 tank and Pravda's second-in-command has the upper hand. Everything seems lost. Then Saki opens her mouth to speak and everybody cheers up waiting for a PreAssKickingOneLiner as in their battle with Kuromorimine's Panzerjäger Tiger (P) Elefant in [[ContinuityNod Episode 12 of the anime]]. [[spoiler:Except all she did was point out a butterfly...ending with Rabbit Team [[BlownAcrossTheRoom blown across the street]] by the IS-2's [[{{BFG}} 122 mm]] cannon]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: The Head of of MEXT School Carriers Department (Mentioned in CorruptBureaucrat) calls the TheCavalry moment where the other schools reinforce Miho "underhanded", yet he made the match an 8v30 ''annihilation'' match and [[spoiler:approved the ''Morser-Karl'' and T28]] specifically to give the University Team an upper hand. Not to mention he was also the who reneges on a verbal promise that [[spoiler:Oarai would not be closed down if they won the tournament]]. It's probably why exactly none of the other officials give his concerns much thought.
* IronicEcho: The Morals committe prides themselves for "catching the late comers". When they arrive late to a Senshado gathering, Mako simply says this when asked where she was going:
-->'''Mako''': To catch the late comers.
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy:
** Momo in Turtle team is ''still'' a terrible shot. However the reason behind is finally shown. Every time she fires, she raises the Hetzer's 75 mm gun up and off target[[note]]To clarify how hard it is to ''accidentally'' do this, changing the gun's alignment requires rotating levers and such.[[/note]] However, this is ultimately [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] in that by angling the gun upward, Momo [[AccidentalAimingSkills hits Rosehip's Crusader tank]] attempting to [[DynamicEntry jump into the battle]].
** The tanks in the University Team have trouble firing at tanks that are ''right in front of them''. However, it is justified during their LuredIntoATrap strategy in the Theme Park.
* ImpossibleTask: In order for [[spoiler: save their school from closure again]], Ooarai's Sensha-do team has to win a MEXT sanctioned match. However, their opponent is revealed to be the collective best teams of the University-level. To stack the odds further, they are to face 30 tanks which is 10 more than what Kuromorimine fielded in the tournament finals. Finally, the match is set to annihilation rules, meaning in order to win, Ooarai has to eliminate ''every single enemy unit''. [[spoiler: Then it is revealed that among the 30 units of the University team, two units are illegally classified as tanks and were only allowed specifically for the match.]]
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Anzu, once she takes over the gunner seat, creates miracles with her Hetzer.
** She pulls off the finishing shot in Operation Kill Serve. [[spoiler:Said shot involved ''ramping the Hetzer'' over Anzio's upside-down Carro Veloce, then firing '''down the Morser-Karl's barrel while in mid-air'''.]]
** In the Theme Park hedge maze, she manages to blind shot a M26 Pershing through the hedges. The hedges are tall enough that they can completely conceal the Pershings on the ground view and she still hits it! [[JustifiedTrope She probably knows the Pershing's location due to Anchovy's reconnaissance]].
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: One M24 Chaffee decides to slow down just to shoot at Alisa's [=M4A1=] (76) Sherman, despite her suffering at least ''17'' shots from a Pershing and losing a track.
* LeeroyJenkins: Chi-Ha-Tan Academy's FatalFlaw as part of their HonorBeforeReason mentality. Their primary strategy (if you even call it that) is to charge head first into the enemy, which usually ends them [[CurbStompBattle totally defeated]].
* LethalJokeCharacter: The CV 33 has no business being in a tank battle (being a tankette good only against infantry), but its use as a GPS, undersized bait and an improvised ramp proves instrumental to the high school team's victory.
* LoopholeAbuse:
** Executed to the utmost degree, [[spoiler:students from Kuromorimine, Saunders, Pravda, St. Gloriana, Continuation, and Chi-Ha-Tan temporarily transfer into Oarai in order to help them with their battle against the University Team. Also, they are allowed to bring their tanks because their tanks are considered "private property".]]
** The MEXT minister also (ab)uses this to stack the deck in favor of the already advantaged University Team (and thus against Ooarai) by approving the University Team's use of the [[spoiler:Karl-Gerät Morser-Karl]], even though whether it actually counted as a tank is [[TanksButNoTanks extremely questionable]].
** The Student Council takes advantage of a loophole to retain ownership of their tanks by writing them all off as "lost" and handing them over to Saunders for safekeeping.
** During the match, Leopon mentions that there are regulations which mandate keeping ''petrol'' engines as per their original specifications in Senshado matches. [[spoiler:However, they say something '''very''' different about the ''electric'' motors of their ''hybrid'' tank.[[note]]To wit, [[AllThereInTheManual rules]] ''mandate'' an "[[ExactWords overhaul to modern electrical standards]]", without giving more detail. Here's where an [[TheresNoKillLikeOverkill up-to-industrial-standards]] [=ESP=] comes into play, as the Panzer VI Tiger (P) has, apart from a rear-mounted Gasoline engine, two electric motors powering its tracks. [[/note]]]]
* LuredIntoATrap: done twice by the University Team during the final match. First, they let Oarai take the high ground on the "203 Hill" [[spoiler: so that they would just be a better target for the Morser-Karl siege mortar]]. Later, in the amusement park, they attempt to use their superior firepower to disperse Ooarai's formation and take their tanks one by one. When Ooarai's main force refuses to split, they lead it in a place where they can surround it from all sides standing on higher ground. In the first case, both Miho and [[spoiler: Maho]] warn their teammates that it could be a trap. In the second case, moments before realizing that they walked into a trap [[spoiler:Darjeeling]] mutters that the enemy's behaviour seems strange.
** Azumi of the Bermuda Trio gets eliminated by being lured by Maho inside a tunnel and stopped on the other end, allowing Miho to deal the killing blow from above the tunnel entrance.
* MadeOfExplodium: In the climax battle, everything shot by the tanks involved seem to explode as soon as they get hit. Including inert pieces of scenary.
** However in Alice's Centurion case (a tank whose AP round had no explosive filler), this is {{Justified}} ([[ViewersAreGeniuses more or less]]) by Alice using HandSignals for her crew to use [[ShownTheirWork HE rounds]], as [[WOrdOfGod confirmed by the director]] in the movie's [[AllThereInTheManual commentary track]].
* MightyGlacier: The [[spoiler:T28 Super Heavy Tank]] the University Team brings to breach the Theme Park, with ~300 mm of frontal armor backed up by a 105 mm gun!
* MultiTrackDrifting: Holy crap, its almost as if this became a standard strategy for tanks after what Miho did in the tournament. The movie makes a token attempt at justification by having the last half of the FinalBattle happen entirely over a paved surface after a [[ContinuityNod heavy rain]].
* MundaneUtility:
** When [[spoiler:Oarai closed down and the Senshado team are staying in a temporary lodging]], Rabbit Team's Karina and Ayumi use the M3 Lee's turret to mount an over-sized fishing rod.
** The next day, Miho and co. are driving the Panzer IV...to the convenience store.
** A flashback sequence shows Miho and Maho using a Panzer II to go fishing.
* NoRangeLikePointBlankRange: A general consensus in the movie is that if a tank fired at another at this range, it will kill the tank. Granted, at point-blank range, its easier to hit the weak points of a tank.
** Averted in the beginning however with Rabbit Team's M3 Lee against Nonna's IS-2, where they fired close range with their 37 and 75 mm cannons without denting the IS-2.
** Fukuda's Type 95 Ha-Go fires at a Matilda II's side at this range and destroys it.
** Chi-Ha-Tan has some hits and misses with this trope against the University Team's Pershings. Sometimes they do hit close-range but the Pershing's armor prove too much, other times they hit the turret rings, which does the job of white-flagging the tanks.
** [[spoiler:Miho's FastBallSpecial plan has Maho fire a blank from her Tiger I's gun right behind Miho's Panzer IV to propel the Panzer IV right up to Alice's Centurion, shooting the turret with her Panzer IV gun right up at it.]]
* OhCrap:
** Rukuriri when the [[spoiler:Type 95 Ha-Go is about to shoot her Matilda II right at the garage.]]
** Miho and Yukari share a horrified glance when it was revealed that their opponents will be the University Team.
** The look on the Ooarai team's faces when they are informed that the match against the University Team will be an 8 vs. 30 annihilation match.
** The Pershing commander protecting the [[spoiler:Morser-Karl]] has this when Continuation's BT-42 jumps out of the woods towards them, and again when the BT-42 [[spoiler:starts driving without its tracks]].
** When Rosehip's Crusader charged forward at an University Team's breach expecting a M24 Chaffee and does a complete 180 degree in the face of a [[spoiler:T28 Super Heavy Tank]].
** When the Saunders team is thoroughly trounced by the University elites. All Kay can respond with is "Oops!" before being blasted.
** Azumi, one of the commanders of the University Team briefly does this once she realized [[spoiler: she had fallen into the Nishizumi sisters' trap and is about to get shot.]]
** Rabbit team experiences this shortly after initiating Operation Mifune [[spoiler:and suddenly realize that there's now a whirling ferris wheel of death rolling down the hill towards them.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness
** After [[spoiler:Oarai is shut down]], the Morals Committe such as Sodoko essentially become delinquents.
** [[spoiler:Shiho Nishizumi]] of all people advocate for the reversal of [[spoiler:Oarai's closure]].
** Clara [[spoiler:speaking perfect Japanese]] for once just as she commits to a [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice]].
* OperationBlank: Saunders' plan to [[spoiler:rescue Ōarai's tanks]] is called "Operation I Shall Return".
* PoorCommunicationKills: In the opening battle, Nishi's radio malfunctions and she mishears the order "Draw Back" as "Attack". She immediately charges a line of enemy tanks unsupported and gets obliterated seconds later.
* PrecisionFStrike: Kay curses when Naomi reports her Firefly can't support the company due to heavy fire.
-->'''Kay:''' [[GratuitousEnglish Shit!]]
* {{Ramprovisation}}: [[spoiler:Turtle team uses Anzio's [=CV33=] to jump a bridge gap and take down the Morser-Karl]].
* RefugeInAudacity: There are many instances of shamelessly outrageous action taken, both on the battlefield and off it. [[spoiler: Who expects a bloody ferris wheel to come loose and roll towards your encirclement?]]
* {{Retcon}}: To the ''Maginot'' spin-off manga, as Momo in the movie mentions getting her "first kill in an official match" whereas she actually got a kill in the ''Maginot'' spin-off, whose (friendly) battle gets demoted to be an unofficial one.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: The [[CorruptBureaucrat Head of of MEXT School Carriers Department]] has the humongous [[spoiler:Morser-Karl]], a banned vehicle in Senshado, approved just for the Oarai vs. University match to give University an edge.
* SequelEscalation: The Movie has everything and more from the anime show. More characters, more tanks, more stakes, and even more wackier plans!
* ShaggyDogStory: The entire Senshado tournament from the original show is rendered moot as Oarai is [[spoiler:still being closed]] despite their victory. The plot of the film kicks off to go against that decision.
* ShoutOut: The Boko Museum's attractions have a few.
** "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_a_Small_World It's a 'Beat-up' World]]"
** "[[Film/TwoThousandOneASpaceOdyssey Space Beat-up-ssey]]"
%% "'Beated-up' Mansion" (Is this a shout-out?%%
** "The logo on the side of Saunders' C-5M Super Galaxy is a shout-out to ''Series/{{Thunderbirds}}''.
** The radio messages used by Darjeeling to summon the other schools to help Ooarai are taken from the film ''Film/TheLongestDay''.
** The film the Rabbit team appears to be watching prior to the match is ''Film/NineteenFortyOne1979'', so it's no surprise where they got the idea for the Ferris wheel from.
* ShownTheirWork
** The [[spoiler:T28]] actually can detach its outer tracks. However, in RealLife, this typically requires a precise and delicate 2 hour process (Then again, they removed them with what seems to be explosives, so much for "delicate").
** The BT-42 can actually run without tracks thanks to its [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christie_suspension Christie suspension]]. In perfect road conditions, a tank with Christie suspension could go up to ''70 miles per hour''.
** Still with the BT-42, the scene where it first jumps a huge gap is a direct ShoutOut of [[http://www.museum-t-34.ru/en/_popup_img.php?img_id=572 (in)famous, record-setting lake jump by a BT tank in 1936]] (amusingly, ''42'' meters)
** The lone tanks jumping the channels pale [[RealityIsUnrealistic next to the tale of the British tank column that came under surprise heavy fire]] in a forest road next to a 15 feet wide channel. Its lead tank, seeing no other exit, revved up the engine and jumped the channel. ''The entire column'' followed suit.
** Tanks going downhill or plowing through the terrain all rotate their turrets backward or to the side so their gun barrel do not get damaged by the impact against the object or the ground.
** When she's told to pretend to be struggling to drive away, Mako weaves back and forth slightly, something that late model Panzer [=IVs=] did with inexperienced drivers, a problem caused by heavy, long-barreled cannons weighing down suspension designed for a lighter turret.
** Check the rest out at the [[ShownTheirWork/GirlsUndPanzer original page]].
* SkewedPriorities: Saki takes her time to notify her fellow teammates about a [[spoiler:butterfly]] outside the tank, when they are currently face-to-face in front of an IS-2.
* SoleSurvivor:
** Fukuda from Chi-Ha-Tan Academy was the only one to survive from her school after their [[LeeroyJenkins charge at the enemy]], and that's only because Mallard and Duck Team from Oarai stopped her.
** [[spoiler:Katyusha]] ends up the only one left from [[spoiler:Pravda]] after the encirclement on the hill.
** [[spoiler:Maho's Tiger I tank is the only survivor of the entire match. As part of the annihilation matches rules, that means that her team won.]]
* TacticalWithdrawal: Chi-Ha-Tan uses this as their excuse for not standing their ground when fighting in the theme park.
-->'''Nishi:''' "Retreating attack!"
** In the audio drama the Chi-Ha-Tan girls debate strategies and drills, with gems like [[ItMakesSenseInContext "full-speed charge to the side", "rotational charge", "expanding charge to the left and the right", "double-encirclement charge, and then all forces enter into an encircling-eradication charge"]], and even [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext "Stationary charge!"]] Nishi can't help but {{lampshading}} it herself:
--->'''Nishi:''' Hey, troops, how come there's always charging involved?
--->'''Tamada:''' It's just, like, it doesn't feel right unless I can say the word ''"charge"''.
* TakeThat: Yukari does a historical one with a Boko analogy.
-->'''Mako:''' This guy is unexpectedly weak...\
'''Miho:''' That's why it's Boko!\
'''Yukari''': Like [[TakeThat Italy's 10th Army!]]
* TakingTheBullet: Used as a deliberate strategy in the opening exhibition match, where Katyusha's T-34-85 blocks a shot from Anglerfish's Panzer IV to allow Darjeeling's Churchill Mk.VII to fire the finishing shot.
* TakingYouWithMe:
** Darjeeling shoves her Churchill Mk.VII under an arch bridge to get a shot on the [[spoiler:T28]]. However, in doing so, she leaves herself in a compromising position to get shot by two other University tanks.
** Rosehip removes her Crusader's speed governor and propels herself across a river to kill an M24 Chaffee before losing herself when her Crusader crashes against a wall.
* TanksButNoTanks: Despite being nowhere classified as a tank, and its status as an AFV is debatable, [[spoiler:the Morser-Karl siege mortar in the University Team]] is still accepted in the Senshado competition. Similarly, the [[spoiler:T28 Super Heavy Tank]] fielded by the same team is more accurately described as a self-propelled gun rather than a tank, and was even reclassified to a "Gun Motor Carriage" on that rationale before being reclassified yet again on account of it having unusually heavy armor and armaments compared to the US Doctrine of a "[[FragileSpeedster Gun Motor]] [[GlassCannon Carriage]]".
* [[CarFu Tank Fu]]: Yep still there.
** Rabbit team's close encounter with the IS-2 in the beginning is one.
** Chi-Ha-Tan's tendency to get up close and personal against Pershings in the latter half of the film.
* TankGoodness: Out of a 2 hour film, about 1.5 hours are focused on tank combat.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Mentioned by Erika, but ultimately averted as each team manages to accommodate for each other's fighting styles.
-->'''Erika''': Cooperating as a makeshift team?\
'''Maho''': A makeshift team is still a team.
* TheMovie: The movie to the [[Anime/GirlsUndPanzer anime show]].
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill:
** The University Team manages to outdo Kuromorimine's antics in the show. The University team brought along a [[spoiler:''[[{{BFG}} Mörser Karl]]'' with its '''600 mm siege mortar''']] and ''also'' a [[spoiler:T28 Super Heavy Tank with its 300 mm of frontal armor and a 105 mm gun]]. Not to mention that against a team filled with rather outdated tanks like Oarai, they brought along a full complement of M26 Pershings[[note]]Late American WWII heavy tanks with 90 mm guns[[/note]] and also a Centurion tank[[note]]The benchmark of the Main Battle Tank, that made waves in tank technology ''after'' WWII, and '''still in active service'''.[[/note]]!
** Alisa's [=M4A1=] (76) W Sherman suffers about 17 shots from M26 Pershings and one shot by an M24 Chaffee (for good measures). She ''somehow'' [[MadeOfIron survives this]].
** Kay's tank, surrounded by the University Team's Pershings, gets hit by three at once.
** Just the number of crewmen alone can show you how boned Ooarai was. As Miho walks up to exchange greetings with the enemy commander, her teammates barely fill the entirety of one hill. The University Team fills the whole ''horizon''. A stark reminder that many Ooarai tanks are undermanned in addition to being underdogs.
* TooFastToStop: Rosehip does this twice with her Crusader tank.
** The first in the opening exhibition match when Rosehip loses control of her Crusader when trying to turn a curve. She ends up crashing into Clara's T-34-85, setting off one of her external fuel tanks, and ''blowing up'' a store.
** The second in the match against the University Team, where she removes the speed governor on her tank engine and propels across a river to destroy an M24 Chaffee, [[spoiler:going too fast to stop her tank from embedding itself against a wall, white-flagging herself as well.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: A lot of the team members improve from their time in the show.
** Anteater team are able to effectively use their Type 3 Chi-Nu, even scoring their first kills.
** Momo finally got her first kill...by AccidentalAimingSkills.
** Chi-Ha-Tan Academy, who faced a CurbStompBattle with Kuromorimine in the show, are showed to be...somewhat more competent in the latter part of the movie.
** Anzio's Anchovy, Pepperoni, and Carpaccio do a lot better here in a [=CV33=] than they did in the show.
* {{Tsundere}}: Katyusha, arriving later than Maho and Kay, pulls this aloof act in an attempt to maintain her composure. Nonna points out how she wanted to arrive first and was so eager to help.
* UnspokenPlanGuarantee: A lot
** In the opening exhibition match, Darjeeling only mention on leaving something up to Katyusha. [[spoiler:Said plan was for Katyusha to invoke TakingTheBullet and block Darjeeling's Churchill so she could take out Miho's Panzer IV while they are reloading.]]
** Operation Kill Serve. The details are spoken off screen and works '''spectacularly''', even if they had to improvise.
** Miho and Maho's [[spoiler:FastBallSpecial plan]] is made during their battle against Alice's Centurion, but we only hear the last bit when Miho confirms the plan with her crew.
* VisualPun:
** In the Theme Park, Miho enters the Tortoise Land section, we see [[http://imgur.com/0bmY9lU Thomas the Tank]](a Tortoise with [[WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends Thomas the Tank Engine]]'s face).
** The first time we see the university team, they've just beat a team of [[http://i.imgur.com/UAjDENU.png Pink Panthers.]]
* WrongGenreSavvy:
** Rukuriri, the Matilda II commander who got caught in Duck Team's garage ambush in the show tries to invoke [[GenreSavvy genre savviness]] by anticipating Duck Team's appearance in her rear. [[spoiler:But she fails to notice Fukuda's Type 95 Ha-Go on her right.]]
** Katyusha calls the hill Company "Sunflower" climbs "203 Hill"[[note]]203 Hill is a battle that took place during the Siege of Port Arthur in the Russo-Japanese War...with the Russians losing...[[/note]]. Hippo team, full of historic enthusiasts, [[LampshadeHanging calls out on this analogy]].
*** On the other hand, Nishi is quite taken with the name, [[FridgeBrilliance given she represents the Japanese side]]. Plus it's very like her not to notice that Katyusha shouldn't be using that reference as a positive.
* WhamLine: Several:
** "But we're students here!" [[spoiler:"No, not anymore"]]
** [[spoiler:"Maho Nishizumi]], Oarai High School student"; "[[spoiler:Erika Itsumi]], ditto"; "[[BigDamnHeroes Here with 18 students to join the match]]".
* {{Wuxia}}: Senshado is a martial art. Everybody is doing impossible, reality-defying, jumps and leaps. The action scenes are deliberately depicted in fast camera. Martial artists band together due to honor and duty. Masked fighters attack from ambush. Cryptic, poetry-spouting vagabonds turn out to be epic badasses. Heirs to rival martial arts styles have an epic showdown. Yes, that's right. If the [[Anime/GirlsUndPanzer anime series]] was a sports anime with tanks, [[Anime/GirlsUndPanzerDerFilm the movie]] is [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot a Wuxia movie with tanks]].
** Wise but cryptic observers playing exotic musical instruments who later turn out to be utter badasses are also a staple of the genre, and the kantele does bear resemblance to the Chinese zheng.
