----
[[AC:''AbridgedSeries'']]
* ''WebVideo/DanganronpaAbridgedThing'':
** In canon, the first murder was committed in what was arguably self-defense, although it's pointed out that the killer ([[spoiler:Leon Kuwata]]) technically went out of his way to get to and finish off the victim ([[spoiler:Saiyaka Maizono]]). In the abridged series, the murderer accepted the victim's invitation, hoping to "get some," and killed her when she called him a "weenie."
** The accomplice and second victim of the third case, [[spoiler:Hifumi Yamada]], agreed to help the main culprit, [[spoiler:Celestia Ludenberg]], after the latter accused the first victim of trying to assault [[spoiler:her]] and stealing Alter-Ego. In the abridged series, said accomplice was enraged when the main culprit claims the victim supports womens' rights and fair criticism of video games and doesn't even notice when the culprit mentions Alter-Ego's theft.
* ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'':
** Vegeta in the original series is portrayed as a gradually softening ByronicHero (granted it took virtually 3 whole sagas for him to get there), with the English Dub going further by saying his villainy was caused largely by Frieza's mistreatment of him. This incarnation, however, is [[CardCarryingVillain openly, hilariously evil]], actively ''[[FreudianExcuseDenial denies]]'' [[FreudianExcuseDenial any possible mitigating factors from his upbringing]], and many of his cruel acts are done with joyful sadism. He's also [[AbusiveParents quite a bit harsher to Trunks]] after finding out he's his son, though he ''eventually'' TookALevelInKindness by the time of ''WebAnimation/DragonShortZ'' (sort of; he's still a BloodKnight first and oremost).
** Piccolo, at first. In canon, Goku grabbed Raditz from behind and told Piccolo to KillUsBoth with his Makankōsappō, while in ''Abridged'' he murders Goku by ignoring his request to warn him before he shot so he could get out of the way. And after Piccolo sees Gohan's potential as a fighter, he kidnaps him to make him his {{Tykebomb}} to TakeOverTheWorld instead of training him to fight Vegeta and Nappa. He doesn't even know the Saiyans are coming to Earth until Kami warns him a few days beforehand, since Raditz died without saying anything about other Saiyans coming to Earth, and Piccolo had already left when the others overheard Vegeta and Nappa over Raditz's scouter. Afterwards, he's pretty much in line with his original portrayal, though.
** Mr. Popo. In the original show, he was a kind, peaceful man who helped the protagonists. In this version, he is a rude, sadistic, and intimidating bully who all the main characters fear. He puts his students through hellish training for the fun of breaking them, is implied to be a rapist, has a magic carpet fueled by souls (suggesting he kills people for their souls), plots to destroy the world with Shenron, and Kami states that the last time Mr. Popo kicked him off the lookout, when he came back "I found five corpses... He ''laughed'' when I said "five". [[spoiler:Ever since Kami's fusion with Piccolo he seems to be adding a more affable nature to his interactions with the cast, though it's clear he can switch back whenever he wants]].
** Guru. Unlike the kind grandfather-like figure he was in the actual series, here he caused a huge drought that nearly wiped out the Namekian race, blamed the Albino Namekians for it, and ordered their genocide. He also orders Nail to murder Krillin and sends Nail to fight a battle with Freeza knowing he stands no chance. When the heroes summon the dragon, Guru dies on purpose and ruins everything just to be a dick, as opposed to the original where he died of heartbreak from watching his people die. Guru also laughs when he hears that Vegeta slaughtered a Namekian village, and is finally [[AssholeVictim killed brutally by the Namekians]] rather than dying of old age by being EatenAlive after he confesses his sins about the drought and then realizing [[DidntThinkThisThrough he wasn't dying quite yet again]]. In the ''Lord Slug'' movie, it was revealed that he was Slug's evil half and that he suggested to Slug that he attack Earth in the first place, telling him that their defenses suck. He's so evil in fact, that he shows up in ''WebAnimation/{{HFIL}}'' with the likes of Freeza and Cell (the latter being his [[AHellOfATime roommate]]).
** Doctor Briefs' descent into this started with the occasional sexist remark. He's since turned out to be an amoral MadScientist with a laundry list of prejudices who considered giving his own daughter an ExplosiveLeash. Oh, and the reason his wife never seems to age? [[spoiler:Cloning. He grows them in his basement.]] He's still better off than Mr. Popo and Guru though since he performs nowhere near as many KickTheDog moments as them, helps the cast more often than he hinders them, and most of his villainy is in his remarks rather than actions.
** Downplayed example with Android 16. While he remains the GentleGiant FriendToAllLivingThings he was in canon, he was also monomaniacally focused on killing Goku much moreso than in ''DBZ''. It wasn't until 17 suggested that he get a hobby that his character started softening, but his default response to any given situation is still "Kill Goku".
** Bardock is a strange case in that Creator/TeamFourStar didn't change his personality, but rather they kept it consistent. TFS has said that they liked Bardock as the {{Jerkass}} VillainProtagonist he was in ''The Father of Goku'' and openly expressed distaste for his gradually softening into a gruff AntiHero in ''Episode of Bardock'', feeling that it took away the things that made him stand out among the ''DBZ'' cast. As a result, in their adaptation of ''Episode of Bardock'', he retains his original personality, fighting Chilled's minions because of his own vendetta against Freeza rather than for any kind of noble or high-minded ideal.
** There are hints that, unlike in canon, Oolong never fully reformed. He let a forest fire break out because he thought it looked cool (with the implication that he even might've started it) and he secretly wishes to TakeOverTheWorld with an army of brutal [[PigMan pig-men]].
** In later appearances, Shenron is depicted as a major asshole who's willing to [[JackassGenie deliberately screw with wishes]] if he feels that the wisher is misusing the Dragon Balls -- such as when he granted a wish for a Christmas tree by summoning Turles and his minions so they could plant the Tree of Might. He also apparently has an arrangement with Mr. Popo to lay waste to the Earth when Popo gives the go-ahead. It's implied that he's this way because he's sick and tired of being used by the same people over and over again, and often used for frivolous things. He mellows out a bit when Dende becomes his guardian, largely due to Dende sharing his weed with him.
* ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciTiwXemSGo Two Villains]]'' (TheAbridgedSeries version of ''Anime/MyHeroAcademiaTwoHeroes'') does this with the antagonists. In the actual movie, [[spoiler: David Shield]] hired the terrorists to [[spoiler: stage an attack he can steal back his confiscated invention, only for them to double-cross him and take it for themselves]]. In this version, the terrorists are completely acting on their own, [[EvilIsPetty upset that KFC cancelled their order because they were busy helping cater the convention]]. However, [[spoiler: [[AdaptationNameChange David Wayne]]]] still takes advantage of this to [[spoiler: pull a BatmanGambit where he knew they would make off with his invention because it's also a mind control device that lets him serve as the FinalBoss by controlling Wolfram]]. The reason? [[spoiler:He understandably wants revenge on All Might [[WithFriendsLikeThese for being a terrible friend to him and practically ruining his life]], [[GreenEyedMonster but he's also]] ''[[ParentalIncest sexually attracted to his own daughter]]'' ([[EvenEvilHasStandards though a joke implies that]] [[DoWrongRight he at least waited until she was legal]]).]] [[{{Squick}} Aside from the latter]], Deku's reason for taking them on is that [[VillainHasAPoint while he agrees about All Might]], [[WartsAndAll he still admires his confidence for giving people like him hope]].
* ''WebVideo/MyLittlePonyTheMentallyAdvancedSeries'':
** Princess Celestia is turned into TheCaligula, who ruthlessly and statistically disposes of anypony that earns her wrath and through her cruel "teaching", turned her apprentice, Twilight, from an innocent filly into the cynical, abrasive, and alcoholic mare she is today.
** Pinkie Pie is transformed from a fun-loving and cheerful pony, who ''lived'' to make friends and spread happiness she was in cannon, into an AxCrazy domestic terrorist, who poisons her hometown and torments [[TheWoobie Fluttershy]] ForTheEvulz.
* ''WebVideo/MyLittlePonyTotallyLegitRecap'':
** Though still more or less a good pony, Twilight is more open to extreme solutions, like threatening to have Starlight brainwash her friend, if they can not get past their personnel issues.
** Rarity's landlord in "Saddle Row Review" is also a drug dealer, who extorts the Mane Six into helping him move a bunch of pills, under threat of selling his own daughter into prostitution.
** Fleetfoot is turned from a JerkWithAHeartOfGold into an AxCrazy {{jerkass}} who threatens to mutilate anypony that bothers her and at one point, even threatens to skin Rainbow Dash's parents and then have ''sex with her in her parents' skins''. Rainbow is understandably disturbed.
** The Wonderbolts as a whole are transformed into just a bunch of amoral {{jerk ass}}es.
* ''WebVideo/RWBYTheAbridgedSeries'':
** Weiss Schnee started out as a total {{Jerkass}} and a SpoiledBrat, with some [[FantasticRacism racist attitudes towards faunus]]. However, [[AbusiveParents she had]] [[ParentalNeglect a number of]] {{Jerk Justifications}} for her poor attitude and a solid FreudianExcuse for her racism. Weiss eventually [[TookALevelInKindness became a nicer and more selfless person over time]], along with mostly overcoming her prejudices against faunus. In this abridged series, on the other hand, Weiss Schnee is [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk a much worse person]]. [[EstablishingCharacterMoment She’s introduced fantasizing about performing an ethnic cleansing on Beacon Academy]] [[BadBoss while physically assaulting one of her workers because he politely asked if she’d stop making him sleep in the freezer]]. [[MeanBoss She outright admits that she doesn’t want her workers to be happy]]. Weiss is stated to kidnap people and [[DeadlyEuphemism repurpose]] them, heavily implying she either sends them into forced labor camps or the slave trade. [[FantasticRacism Weiss enjoys killing faunus]] and [[InsaneTrollLogic believes the fact they don’t have civil rights is a justifiable reason to oppress and mistreat them.]] [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking She also has a drug problem]] [[ItMakesSenseInContext from sniffing too much dust to hide a German accent.]]
** Ruby was originally [[TheIdealist a very idealistic and optimistic character]] who was only interested in becoming a huntress because she always wanted to help people. Here, Ruby is at best a [[SociopathicHero sociopathic anti-hero]] who has no problem with committing homicide when protecting herself, stealing other people's possessions, getting high off Dust, and laughing at the misery of others.
** Nora Valkyrie was originally a CloudCuckooLander obsessed with trying to be teammates with Ren in the original show, but it was out of them being longtime friends and while she did have a [[BloodKnight sadistic streak]], Nora only really had it towards Grimm and people like Cardin. Here, Nora has no problem with trying to {{Blackmail}} Ren into being her teammate and seriously considers murdering all of the other students just so there’s no risk Ren will end up partnering with someone else. She’s also a serious drug addict if her comment about stealing fifty pounds of Dust from Weiss is anything to go by.
** While he doesn't seem like it at first, it becomes increasingly obvious from episode one onward that abridged Ozpin is a much worse person than his canon counterpart. He accepts Ruby into his academy, despite knowing she just killed five people, he launches all of the first year applicants into a dangerous forest to see how many of them survive because he couldn’t be bothered to come up with a proper training exercise, he nearly walks away from said event because all of the students (yes, even Jaune) actually survived the landing and only doesn’t leave because Weiss set the forest on fire and “made things interesting,” and episode four’s ending credits imply this particular forest is a legally protected animal and tree habitat and that Ozpin is fully willing to break the law just for his own amusement. He also punishes Ruby for eating all of the cookies by halting her CharacterDevelopment for most of volume one and two, and then gives it to team JNPR.
** While not completely obvious as she’s mostly just Professor Ozpin’s BeleagueredAssistant who doesn’t get paid enough to put up with his antics, but Glynda Goodwitch doesn’t care about the well-being of Beacon Academy’s first year applicants. She expressed indifference to whether the students can survive their initiation test since they already paid their tuition, which implies she’s [[OnlyInItForTheMoney only working with Ozpin and Beacon for financial reasons]].
** Even ''The Death Stalker'' of all things gets this. While most Grimm are given [[AdaptationalHeroism friendlier interpretations]], the Death Stalker Pyrrha and Jaune run into is somehow made to be far worse than in the original series. The Death Stalker was an antagonist, but it was simply a mindless creature who just happened to have an instinct to KillAllHumans it ran across and Jaune accidentally provoked it by grabbing its tail. Here, the Death Stalker is a sadistic monster that [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil molests Jaune at the first opportunity, and is all but outright stated to be a rapist.]] The Death Stalker expresses no concern for Jaune’s safety when it tosses him into the forest as part of a contest with Pyrrha to see who gets to keep him and attacks Pyrrha when it loses. The Death Stalker shows Ruby absolutely no mercy when it attacks her for trying to kill it, and while the Death Stalker is in the right for defending itself, it goes far beyond that [[{{Sadist}} when it injures Ruby somewhere “important” simply for its own amusement.]] [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking The Death Stalker also speaks in a stereotypical gay guy voice for no logical reason.]]
* While LighterAndSofter than the above, with the characters [[TookALevelInJerkass taking a level in jerkass]] but still ultimately remaining heroic, ''WebVideo/RWBYAbridged'' still does this with Nora who's turned into a [[AxCrazy completely unstable psychopath who has to be all but physically restrained from killing the other students]] by [[MoralityPet Ren]].
* ''WebVideo/SwordArtOnlineAbridged'':
** Kirito is a downplayed example in that he's ''much'' more of a {{Jerkass}} than his canonical counterpart, someone Asuna describes as the "Crown Prince of Douchebags" whose response to others' suffering is to pull up a chair and PassThePopcorn, but deep down he does share some of Canon!Kirito's virtues. That said, in episode four, after Rosalia kept angering Kirito, [[DeathByAdaptation he kills her without remorse.]]
** Asuna on the other hand isn't a case of SilkHidingSteel, she's wearing a MaskOfSanity to cover her sociopathic tendencies. She's [[{{Yandere}} violently possessive toward Kirito]], to the extent of [[AxCrazy threatening her friend Liz and burning down her shop]] when Asuna thinks Liz is making a move on Kirito. She's also a ManipulativeBitch who gets Kirito to do her dirty work and knows how to play on his traumas to her advantage. But the fact that she's still able to form a working, happy relationship with Kirito and comes to consider Yui as a daughter proves that this Asuna isn't a ''complete'' sociopath.
** Agil in canon was an UnclePennybags who ran a store and used to proceeds to help low-level players. In this treatment, he goes by "Tiffany" for as yet unexplained reasons and spent one episode trying to help the other players before giving up after realizing he was SurroundedByIdiots. Afterward, he became a ConMan who [[AdamSmithHatesYourGuts sells crappy items at inflated prices]], which has earned him enough ire for [[MurderInc Laughing Coffin]] to mention Tiffany by name in their promo video.
** Keita in the original was just the Moonlit Black Cats' guild leader who had the misfortune of being out shopping when the rest of the group got wiped out. In here he's a scammer who forces Kirito to join his guild after donning a hat that boosts his Charisma stat, and "recruits" [=NPCs=] from quests he never finishes, including ''the tutorial'', something that probably got a lot of players killed in the long run. He also gets the Black Cats into trouble with TheMafia by promising to use a duplication trick on a rare item, only to learn that it got patched out, prompting him to send Kirito, Sachi, and the [=NPCs=] on a doomed mission to get a replacement while he ran off elsewhere.
** Grimlock's backstory in the original had him [[spoiler:going insane after witnessing his lover become a BloodKnight over their months spent trapped in ''Sword Art Online'', prompting him to give her what he considered a MercyKill.]] In the abridged series, he murdered his wife [[StayInTheKitchen because she missed making him dinner]], ''once'', so she could plan a raid with her guildmates, and considers this a perfectly rational response.
* ''TNG Recut'', TheAbridgedSeries of ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'', turns the ''entire crew'' of the ''Enterprise''-D into a bunch of crazed nutcases. Picard takes the cake, though, ultimately leading his crew to strand him on the saucer section and launch it into a planet to get rid of him (twice!). And even ''then'' it doesn't work!
* ''WebVideo/UltraFastPony'':
** Celestia is turned into a [[TheSociopath sociopathic]] goddess who sexually abuses anypony she wants and [[BigBrotherBully treats her younger sister Luna like dirt]].
** Applejack and by extension her entire family, are transformed from an honest and hardworking family of apple farmers, into [[TheIrishMob the Pony Irish Mob]].
** Granny Smith is not only the ruthless leader of the Apple Family's criminal activity, but she also abuses [[ButtMonkey Applebloom]] for no reason.
** Twist in the series was just Applebloom's sole friend before she met the other members of the CMC. In this series, she is a [[spoiler: ''delusion'' trying to persuade Applebloom into doing bad deeds, like burning down the school and hurting other ponies.]]
** Sweetie Bell is turned into a gravelly voiced hellion with seemingly [[LackOfEmpathy no sense of empathy]] towards her supposed friends, who she constantly mocks.
** Spitfire treats her husband Soarin like dirt, even showing little to no concern after he broke his wing, endangers Lightning Dust in the dizzytron for mildly annoying her, and speaks disturbingly casually about ''abandoning'' her own daughter for a decade, which she apparently covered up by telling her husband she was '''dead'''.
** Zigzagged with Maud Pie, who in this [[spoiler:is a demon summoned by Pinky Pie 2 to serve the Apple family]], but in a comedic turn, is actually a [[ActualPacifist pacifist]] who refuses to kill anyone and doesn't do anything villainous, beyond allowing ponies to [[spoiler: [[DealWithTheDevil sell their souls to her]]]] on their own free will.

[[AC:''VideoGame/AceCombat'']]
* [=McKinsey=], in ''Fanfic/ThreeStrikes'' is being paid by [[spoiler:Erusea to sell out Osea, and it's when Bandog and Full Band attempt to get evidence of his treachery out, the latter is killed by accident. Matthews, the commander of the IUN-PKF base on Fort Grays Island, is also an Erusean spy who deliberately made Naomi point man in Operation Lighthouse Keeper with the intention of having her take the fall for Harling's death]].

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/{{Amphibia}}'']]
* ''Fanfic/AMothToAFlame'': Marcy is much more callous and antagonistic here, with her outright joining Andrias' quest as his [[TheDragon Dragon]] rather than remaining an UnwittingPawn who repents the second Andrias exposes the truth. Interestingly enough, her motivations don't actually change, but it's her moral compass that's much less stronger in this story. [[spoiler:Though it's partly implied to be the result of the borderline MindRape that she goes through at The Core's hand.]]

[[AC:''Literature/{{Animorphs}}'']]
* Estrid is portrayed more harshly in ''Fanfic/{{Daemorphing}}'', as her canonical willingness to create a genocidal virus that might jump species is more fully examined and condemned and her doubts and discomfort about doing so are nonexistent, not to mention the usual suite of Andalite -isms that applies to her. [[spoiler: She also decides to secretly clone Toby, apparently ForTheEvulz.]]

[[AC:''Series/{{Arrowverse}}'']]
* ''Fanfic/ForgingABetterFuture'': Future Felicity, which is saying something considering how she's treated in ''Fanfic/ArrowRebirth''. In ''Perils/House'', an unexplained seizure from Oliver reveals that [[spoiler:she was a metahuman with persuasion/brainwashing powers who had been controlling Oliver, the previous timeline's Team Arrow, and quite possibly ''the entire superhero community'' after J'onn scans his mind and discovers the remnants of her programming. Not only had she been essentially raping Oliver for years and enslaving her teammates, she also murdered Laurel after Laurel confessed her love to Oliver before her death]].
* In ''Series/TheFlash2014'', when Barry’s daughter Nora came back from the future Iris was described as a distant mother, but over time characters came to realise that Iris’s intentions were still basically good. However, in the fic ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13266807/1/Ice-cold-deception Ice cold deception]]'', it is revealed that Iris in Nora’s future deliberately poisoned a pregnant Caitlin after Caitlin and Barry had a brief affair under the influence of another meta with the ability to lower inhibitions, leaving Iris [[FutureMeScaresMe horrified to learn what she did in that future]].

[[AC:''Series/BarneyAndFriends'']]
* The ''Fanfic/DayOfTheBarneyTrilogy'' takes Barney and Baby Bop, who are portrayed as sincere and good friends to the kids, and portrays them as villains who successfully get the world's children to kill any adult they come across, [[spoiler: kill their male Special Friends when they turn thirteen, and take the thirteen-year-old girls away to fatally [[MedicalRapeAndImpregnate mother]] mutated offspring.]] They're even revealed to be [[Really700YearsOld Really 65 Million Years Old]] and to have been the harbingers of many of the world's evil dictators and catastrophes.

[[AC: ''WesternAnimation/BigHero6'']]
* ''Fanfic/{{Bruises}}'': In canon, Callaghan was still a villain, but his motivations were more understandable/sympathetic, and he clearly showed remorse for his actions. Here, he's a delusional, dangerous man who couldn't accept that his daughter was gone, and tried to force Hiro to look/act like her just to try and start over.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/BikerMiceFromMars'']]
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1071850/2/Evil-Jack-Domestic-Bliss Evil Jack: Domestic Bliss]]'' has Charley's ex Jack [=McCyber=] not only work with Karbunckle to brainwash Charley into forgetting the Mice so that he can trick Charley into believing that they're married with a daughter (genetically engineered by Karbunckle), but he then actually rapes Charley when he finds said daughter sketching the Mices' motorbikes just because she saw them outside a supermarket while the Mice were trying to work out what had happened to Charley. When Charley meets the Mice while still amnesiac, Jack tries to 'justify' his actions as protecting Charley from the danger the Mice put her in, but even without her memories, Charley can see that the Mice regret the times her life was in danger and knows herself enough to know that she wouldn't keep working with them without knowing all the dangers of such a life.

[[AC:''Film/{{Brightburn}}'']]
* In ''Fanfic/AMonstersNature'', the Breyers basically come across as essentially villains, although only when compared to canon and based on Caitlyn’s perspective of their actions; their attempt to kill Brandon out of fear of what he could do long-term might be understandable considering his recent actions, but [[spoiler:asking a thirteen-year-old girl to kill their son ''for'' them is crossing several lines]].

[[AC:''Anime/CodeGeass'']]
* V.V. was never a pleasant person, but he never considered killing and overthrowing his brother, as in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13013248/1/Zero-of-The-Black-Crusade Zero of The Black Crusade]]''.

[[AC:''VideoGame/CookieRunKingdom'']]
* ''Webcomic/{{Rebloom}}'': Strawberry Crepe Cookie's canonical HeelFaceTurn never happened in this AU, so they remain firmly on the side of the Cookies of Darkness.

[[AC:''Franchise/DanganRonpa'']]
* ''Blog/ThePredespairKids'' manages to make Ultimate Despair far more insidious, subtle, and cruel than they are in the series. Rather than go full-force with murders and killing sprees, they're biding their time, acting quietly and learning everyone's weaknesses before making their moves. They also have absolutely no problem [[spoiler:[[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness killing their own members whenever they're discovered]].]] And the scariest part about them? ''[[NotBrainwashed None of them are brainwashed]].'' They're doing all of this because they were charmed by Junko or, in [[ManipulativeBastard Maverick]] [[TheSociopath Storm's]] case, ForTheEvulz.
* ''Fanfic/SystemRestore'':
** The first and second victims, while acting similarly to how they did in canon ([[spoiler:hoping to kick-start the mutual killing]] and [[spoiler:planning a murder so that Kuzuryuu can graduate]], respectively), come off as somewhat less sympathetic, since their motives are revealed after their deaths. The second murderer, in particular, seems to have fewer reservations about killing, and even tries to convince [[spoiler:Kuzuryuu]] to go through with killing.
** The second murderer, and the first who's different than canon, is [[spoiler:Sonia Nevermind]], who not only never killed anyone in canon, but was also one of the nicer cast members.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'']]
* ''Fanfic/DannyPhantomStranded'': In the series, the Ghost Writer was simply using his powers to teach Danny a lesson not to act spiteful during the holidays and that having poor experiences doesn't justify his actions, he even looked pleased at the end that Danny learns his lesson. In the story of ''Cursed'', being Walker's prisoner since then, along with his girlfriend leaving him, has caused the Ghost Writer to become a more petty and vengeful ghost. Not only does he refuse to accept Danny's apology, he goes out of his way to curse the girl Danny loves into a swan and sets out to ruin Valentine's Day.

[[AC:''Franchise/TheDCU'']]
* The fan film ''Film/{{Grayson}}'' seems to present [[Series/Batman1966 Chief O'Hara]] as a DirtyCop, aligning himself with Catwoman, yelling at Superman to get Dick Grayson out of the way, and preparing to hit a tied-up Commissioner Gordon.
* ''Fanfic/NewTamaran'':
** Wildfire/Ryand’r begins as a hero like in the comics, but the death of Starfire sends him on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge that ends in an invasion of Earth.
** The Spectre is usually an anti-hero, but once finding a new host in Raven, he becomes mad with power.
** Damian Wayne is pretty hot-headed, but in the sequel ''Justice Returns'', he unremorsefully kills his mother in a fit of rage. Then again, this Damian was never raised by Batman and does become one of [[spoiler:Slade’s apprentices.]]
** In the comics the [[Characters/PowerGirl Stratans]] cared greatly about the sanctity of the Earth and took great measures to protect its ecosystem. In Terra's origin story, they blackmail humanity and Atlanteans throughout history with the threat of earthquakes, and are responsible for every recorded one; this ultimately leads to their destruction by Aquaman and Mera.
* In DC canon, "Troia" is simply the superhero name Donna Troy took once she grew out of "Wonder Girl". In the fan novel ''Teen Titans: Witch-Hunt'', Troia is Donna's SuperPoweredEvilSide created from [[spoiler:her EvilAunt Circe]]'s influence.
* ''Fanfic/WithThisRing'': [[spoiler:Nabu's actions are not excused as a necessary evil, he is fully portrayed as villainous and needing to be stopped.]]
** Klarion has always been a villain, but he is by far worse in this version. He's actually a Lord of Chaos, the opposite to Doctor Fate, making him easily one of the most powerful magic users in existence.
* Cyborg in ''Fanfic/YoungJusticeDarknessFalls''. While in comics a man who was saved by his father in an accident, in this version, he's an Apokoliptian creation where his robot part is used to control his every action. However, there's an indication that the man underneath it doesn't want this.

[[AC:''Series/{{Dexter}}'']]
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9666470/1/Break-Me-Every-Time Break Me Every Time]]'' basically does this to Doctor Evelyn Vogel; she was never exactly a 'hero' in canon, but here it goes one step further with the revelation that she killed Harry Morgan when he was planning to try and help Dexter ''not'' kill as that ruined Vogel's own plans for him.

[[AC:''Literature/DiaryOfAWimpyKid'']]
* ''Fanfic/IrreversibleDamage'': In canon, Greg is selfish and manipulative but not really outside of the norm for teenage boys. Here, he's willing to liberally use magic potions to screw people over, up to and including forcing people to dance until they die and [[spoiler:making Rowley's limbs fall off before smothering him with a pillow]].

[[AC:''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'']]
* In the ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' fanfic ''Fanfic/Digimon02TheStoryWeNeverTold'', there are a couple of characters that are a lot more unpleasant compared to their canon incarnations:
** Mimi and Matt, the former is an AlphaBitch who is willing to run away from all her problems regarding the Digital World, shunning anyone whose name is either a Digidestined or the Digital World. The latter is a nostalgic man who prefers the old over the new and as a result, hates the new generation of the Digidestined and will not hesitate to denounce them at any opportunity they made a mistake. Fortunately, thanks to ThePowerOfFriendship, they slowly but surely began reverting back to their original canon selves through gradual CharacterDevelopment.
** Cody's BlackAndWhiteInsanity is a lot more prominent in this fic as no matter how much Ken does to redeem himself and atone for his mistakes, he is the only one who still refuses to believe that Ken is actually reformed when everyone else thinks he has atoned enough. It is only when [[spoiler:Ken dies]] that Cody expresses sufficient enough regret to turn back to his former ways.
** In canon, Oikawa is a WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds whose desire to enter the Digital World lets him get possessed by Myotismon and subsequently, any heinous acts done in the anime is blamed to him. But in the fic however, Oikawa is a PsychopathicManchild who is incredibly addicted to his experiences as a [[spoiler: Digidestined]] in the Digital World so much that he is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve such goals. This includes [[spoiler: arranging the death of two of his own Digidestined members as an accident, creating a Digi Armor, fake Digivices & turned Ken into the Digimon Emperor, and kills Ken without a second thought when he feels that he has outlived his usefulness]].
** Blackwargreymon never reforms in this fic unlike the canon version and this version stays loyal to his master Dagomon till the very end, with his last act before being killed is changed from a HeroicSacrifice into a futile attempt at murdering Oikawa for manipulating his master, even ignoring all the bystanders that could be killed from his attack including the Digidestined.
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7216057/1/To-Be-A-Leader To Be A Leader]]'': [=BlackWarGreymon=], instead of merely knocking the Digidestineds away with a Terra Destroyer after he is first formed, plans to kill them to satisfy his new bloodlust. It takes a HeroicSacrifice from Davis and Mangamon to keep the others alive. He then joins Piedmon in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10547644/1/Once-A-Leader Once A Leader]]''.

[[AC:''Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon'']]
* [=YouTuber=] Lydia the Bard has made a [[WebVideo/DisneyVillainSongsLydiaTheBard series]] of {{Dark Reprise}}s of Disney Princesses' songs with accompanying stories where the Princesses have [[VillainSong turned evil]], often due to a [[WhatIf nail]] in the plot of their native works. [[WesternAnimation/TheLittleMermaid1989 Ariel]], abandoned by a bewitched Eric and imprisoned by Ursula for three years, becomes a murderous siren with a hatred for humanity; [[WesternAnimation/{{Tangled}} Rapunzel]], heartbroken by Flynn's seeming betrayal, doubles down on internalizing Mother Gothel's gaslighting and she sets out to murder Flynn; [[Film/{{Maleficent}} Aurora]], heartbroken by Maleficent's murder, sets about putting the entire kingdom under the same eternal sleeping curse that she was under; WesternAnimation/{{Mulan}}, having lost her father due to Shang outing her and sending her home, becomes a vengeful revolutionary and would-be despot; [[WesternAnimation/{{Hercules}} Megara]], broken by Hercules leaving her for dead just like her first love did, steals Hades' powers and plans to take over the world; [[WesternAnimation/SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs Snow White]] slowly turns into the new Evil Queen; WesternAnimation/{{Moana}} chooses to let her home island and her remaining family burn; Mirabel spitefully destroys all her family's Gifts; [[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Anna]] turns into a frozen-hearted monster; etc.
* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Frozen|2013}}'', Princess Anna is one of the most kind-hearted, non-malicious Disney characters ever. An AlternateUniverse of songs turn this on its head, likely a result of the memory wipe from the film GoneHorriblyWrong, and turns her into a SerialKiller who [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78g0SyQjU1s kills people and hides their bodies in caves]] (including [[SelfMadeOrphan her parents]] and [[CainAndAbel her sister]]), and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlZF0s7Leso happily proclaiming it's useless for her victims to run]] because she'll kill them anyway and [[ItAmusedMe have fun doing it]].
* Timon and Pumbaa in ''Fanfic/TheLionKingAdventures'', where they're turned into a soul-sucking EvilSorcerer and his helper. And Zazu is turned into a backstabbing royal vizier.
* ''Meeting the Little Mermaid'' puts King Triton in this role. No matter how many times his conscience pricks at him, his [[FantasticRacism hatred and prejudice against humans]] are too strong for him to accept Ariel's relationship with Eric, to the point where he'd execute his own daughters to put an end to it.

* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4943095/1/Broken-Faith Broken Faith]]'', Rose Tyler is revealed to be Mrs Saxon, although she and the Master each consider this a marriage of convenience for different reasons, Rose wanting to get back to the Doctor and the Master just wanting to taunt the Doctor with the ‘evidence’ of how his companions can fail.

[[AC:''Franchise/DragonAge'']]
* The AU fanfic ''Fanfic/AllThisVenatoriNonsense'' has Dorian Pavus, canonically a steadfast ally of the player character, starting out the story as an evil Venatori lieutenant. 140* Thanks to the RoleSwapAu setting of ''Fanfic/AlternateTailSeries'', Natsu, Gray, Jellal, Juvia, and [[spoiler:Edolas Mira]] have this since they take the canon roles of Gajeel, Lyon, Laxus, Merudy. and [[spoiler:Erza Knightwalker]] respectively.
* The murderers in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10606669/1/The-Murder-Mystery-of-the-Fairy-Tail-Guild The Murder Mystery of the Fairy Tail]]'' is this in each of the [[MultipleEndings three endings of the story]], while in canon they are loyal members of Manga/FairyTail.

* Stanislaus Braun is canonically recognized as a PsychopathicManchild who tortured a group of innocent people for over two hundred years in a simulated reality, but most indications are that he only became that bad once he was given control of the simulation - as beforehand, he was just a brilliant-if-amoral MadScientist employed by Vault-Tec. In ''Fanfic/BetterToReignInHeaven'', however, Braun was '''always''' a monster: [[VillainWithGoodPublicity he just had a reason to hide it beforehand]]. Not only did he plan some of the Vaults' most pointlessly cruel experiments for cheap laughs, but he also enjoyed spicing up his off-hours by [[SerialKiller torturing and murdering homeless people]]. Plus, flashbacks reveal that he was quite the EnfantTerrible in his formative years.

* ''Fanfic/SeventhEndmostVision'', due to the very premise being a role swap, does this to several characters, but Lucrecia is the most prominent, being a likely contender for BigBad. She comes off as a Hojo who managed to retain their full faculty and rationality, and that has made her [[SanityHasAdvantages all the more dangerous.]] [[spoiler:She's even responsible for ''three other characters'' undergoing this, that being Yuffie, Vincent, and Red XIII; her influence has made them all villains.]]

[[AC:''Literature/FiftyShadesOfGrey'']]
* Christian Grey is presented in ''Fanfic/LuckyNumberThirteen'' as an [[DomesticAbuse abusive]], [[ItsAllAboutMe self-absorbed]] {{Jerkass}} who [[ManipulativeBastard manipulates]] his subs into doing whatever he wants, or straight-up uses threats and violence to intimidate them into obeying him. He's an extremely irresponsible and ill-informed Dom to boot, managing to seriously injure Sharon during a BDSM session. In this case, this really isn't that different from how he comes across in the original books, the difference being that [[DeconstructionFic this fic]] presents his actions as predatory and harmful rather than playing it for fanservice.
* ''Fanfic/PoorUnfortunateSouls'': Christian Grey in canon is Ana's LoveInterest, but in here, he is the BigBad simply by [[DeconstructionFic portraying his abusive actions as abusive]].

* ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFuckboys'': BB was no more dangerous or evil than any of the animatronics in ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys2'' (which were implied to be {{Tragic Villain}}s more than anything), and he cannot even kill directly. In all three games, however, he's a [[TheChessmaster scheming]] [[ClusterFBomb swearing]] [[MemeticMutation enragement child]] [[GodhoodSeeker with ambitions of godhood]].

* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1242073/1/TO-On-the-Streets TO On the Streets]]'' takes Judy Geller's poor relationship with Monica to the extreme, as she not only orders Monica to leave the house on her eighteenth birthday but claims that Jack and Ross are aware of this plan and went on holiday to Paris just to avoid dealing with it when in reality they had no idea and return to find Judy claiming that Monica stole some things and ran away on her own. When Ross learns the truth when he is invited to Chandler's wedding to Monica (Chandler and Ross having fallen out of touch after college before Chandler ran into him by chance), Jack is devastated to learn what his daughter has been through, to the point that he all but explicitly leaves Judy and expresses disgust at himself for not recognising her for what she was earlier.

[[AC:''Franchise/HarryPotter'']]
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13733306/1/Breaking-the-Window Breaking the Window]]'' features an interesting example of this; at one point teen Bellatrix Black tells a wizarding version of the tale of Literature/HanselAndGretel where the children were fat and spoiled and tried to kill a good witch just because of her magic.
* ''Fanfic/TheChoicesThatMakeUs'': While Regulus and Narcissa get a SympatheticPOV, both are also involved in various deeds far blacker (albeit not without nuanced motives) than anything they did in canon, such as killing Regulus's uncle Alphard and setting up the Prewett brothers to be ambushed and killed.
* Basically applies to most of the Weasleys in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12314753/1/The-Price-of-Victory The Price of Victory]]'' (an AU where Harry was raised away from Hogwarts), when Ginny was forced to marry Draco Malfoy after the war as part of an effort by surviving Death Eaters to redeem themselves and show they "regretted" their actions. Only Bill and Charlie are shown to genuinely acknowledge that Ginny hates her marriage, with Arthur, Molly, and Percy basically ignoring any evidence that Ginny is unhappy and Fred, George and Ron tolerating it to various degrees because of the financial benefits. Fred and George have gone so far as to provide Malfoy with materials designed to protect the user from a basilisk's glare and tell themselves that it's not illegal because they don't ''know'' he has a basilisk.
** Also applies to Susan Bones, albeit to a lesser extent; Susan is stated to have helped convince her aunt Amelia to give the younger generation of Death Eaters a chance to 'atone' for their actions because they claim they didn't know what they were getting into, even though anyone taking the Dark Mark had to be committed to the cause.
* ''Fanfic/ThePowerOfSeven'':
** Initially just hinted at, as while Dumbledore says that he doesn’t want Harry to die, he has convinced himself that the only way to stop Voldemort with the prophecy linking him to Harry is for Harry to let Voldemort kill him so that Dumbledore or another experienced wizard can kill Voldemort afterwards.
** This becomes more significant later when Dumbledore [[spoiler:is shown making plans to deliberately isolate Harry from his friends during the summer to stop him from performing the ritual, and the headmaster is also depicted as using the resurrection stone to talk to the recently-deceased Grindlewald about his plans; when Hermione views Dumbledore with her magic vision, she can actually see that his aura has become darker than it was]].
*** Ultimately [[spoiler:it is revealed that Dumbledore was being corrupted by Voldemort via the horcrux in the ring, to the extent that Voldemort briefly possesses Dumbledore, although after he is freed Dumbledore concedes that he can't be sure how much of what he did under the ring's influence he would have done on his own]].
** ZigZagged with [[spoiler:Ron. When Harry first tells Ron and Hermione about being a horcrux, Ron is as supportive as he can be. Once Hermione discovers the ritual, she and Ginny convince Harry not to tell Ron, convinced he'll react poorly and there's no guarantee it will work. Once they get their first success bonding Harry and Ginny, they still talk Harry out of telling Ron. Ron finds out when he sees Harry and Hermione having sex, and reacts about as well as you'd expect. Things get worse when Ron starts stumbling on Harry and other girls, watching them in secret until he gets caught, and finally he accidentally spills the beans to Lavender, believing that she's dumping him to be part of Harry's harem. Lavender being Lavender, the whole school knows within a day. This pretty effectively burns Ron's last bridge between him and Harry, though Ron does start trying to make amends, becoming Harry's spy in the Order of the Phoenix to see what Dumbledore may be planning against Harry. When Voldemort captures Demelza to lead Harry into a trap, it's Ron who plans out the rescue (though Lupin tweaked the plan a bit with his greater experience). Ron eventually returns to being, if not a close friend, then a dependable ally and friendly acquaintance.]]
** Chapter 46 sees [[spoiler:Bill go so far as to attack Fleur when he learns that she's trying to help Harry, claiming that Harry is "going to get what's coming to him" and casting a spell that is verging on dark magic]].
** Fleur's mother seemed a decent gal from what we saw of her in canon. Here, she has no problem cheating on her husband, has him sufficiently cowed to simply let it happen, and [[spoiler:tries to seduce Harry away from Fleur almost immediately (in front of her husband and both her daughters, no less!) When her allure doesn't work, she straight-up tries to blackmail Harry into giving her "just one night." Fleur (and Harry's other girls) are so incensed by this that Fleur, Harry, and Gabrielle leave France that very day.]]

* While Alvin the Treacherous was a villain in ''WesternAnimation/DragonsRidersOfBerk'', in ''Fanfic/TheBerserkersBride'' he dies before his HeelFaceTurn, having planned on murdering Dagur, taking Hiccup (who is a ''young teenager'') as ''his'' wife and then use her and her then-unborn child to take control of the Hooligan and Berserker tribes (as well as to spite Stoick).
* ''Fanfic/TheBlacksmithsApprentice'':
** Snotlout and Spitelout go so far as to [[spoiler:actively assist Alvin the Treacherous in an invasion of Berk (although Spitelout realizes his mistake before his death)]].
** Dagur is even more deranged than he was in the show, [[spoiler:making plans to mutilate and torture Hiccup to make him a slave until his actions push Hiccup to realize that the only way to stop Dagur's plans is to order Toothless to kill the Berserker chief]].
* In-canon, Snotlout and Spitelout aren't exactly nice, but here they are not nearly as cruel as they are in ''Fanfic/LostBoy''. Spitelout has Hiccup (here an orphaned slave) returned to his abusive master despite Stoick making it clear that he wants to take him home, and when Stoick leaves Hiccup in the care of the Jorgenson's household while he sorts out village matters, [[KickTheDog they go out of their way to make him miserable]]. [[spoiler:After Stoick finds out how cruel they treated him, Spitelout and Snotlout take him out in the forest with the intent of raping him as revenge, a dragon raid interrupting them.]] When Hiccup one-ups Snotlout by incapacitating the Gronckle on their first day of dragon-training, Snotlout actually takes Astrid's axe with the intent of killing him right then and there.
* In ''Fanfic/AThingOfVikings'':
** Alvin the Treacherous is more in line with his book counterpart than his incarnation in ''[[WesternAnimation/DragonsRidersOfBerk Dragons: Riders of Berk]]''. For example: He [[TrainingFromHell trained/tortured]] Heather into becoming one of his spies, killed and replaced the king of Vedrarfjord, and, once the Hooligans arrived to deal with him once and for all, [[spoiler: he set his own fortress on fire to cover his escape, [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness killing at least two underlings with his own hands while doing so]]]].
** Mildew is way worse than his counterpart in ''WesternAnimation/DragonsRidersOfBerk''. [[spoiler:Like his canon counterpart, he defects to one of Berk's enemies but is rewarded by being made a jarl of a village in Alba who quickly earns a reputation for being harsh and brutal. He then heads an expedition to a dragon nest in Iceland to capture dragons for Alba and [[SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil enslaves]] the people who live near where his expedition sets up camp. He also tortures Hiccup when Hiccup accidentally comes across the camp. His private thoughts reveal that in his youth, he murdered nearly his entire clan by [[ManOnFire locking them into a hall and setting fire to it]]. 186* ''Fanfic/BondsThroughTimeTheAdventuresOfInuyashaAndKagome'': While initially antagonistic to Inuyasha and co. upon being brought BackFromTheDead, Kikyo was able to mellow out and become an AntiHero, particularly after discovering the circumstances of her death. Here, when they find her in Sayo's village, she all but admits she never truly loved Inuyasha and finds him a "disgusting half-demon". Even after confirming their story that Naraku set them up with Kaede, she refuses to let go of her rage, later going so far as to push Kagome off a cliff after stealing her jewel shards on the grounds that [[ThereCanBeOnlyOne there's only one Kikyo]].

* ''Fanfic/ReMyHostageNotYours'': While still the BigBad in the [[Fanfic/MyHostageNotYours original version of the story]], the Valkian Queen was presented as a NobleDemon who was willing to honor her deal with Zim and let him and Gaz walk away once their HostageForMacGuffin exchange was over. Here, [[spoiler:she only plays along to get Zim to lower his guard, and intends to kill them both once she has what she wants]].
* ''Fanfic/TheNewAdventuresOfInvaderZim'' does this with Gaz. While she was always [[JerkAss snarky, cruel, and mean-spirited]] in canon, both the show and the comics (more the latter) did occasionally show a lighter side and an ability to care for Dib. Here, she openly identifies as a [[MisanthropeSupreme misanthrope]], who doesn't care what happens to Dib or the world. And at the climax of Season 1, she crosses the MoralEventHorizon by means of [[spoiler: telling Zim about Dib and his friends' plan to go after [[LostSuperweapon Project Domination]]]] purely out of spite.

* ''Fanfic/JadeDragon'':
** Jade's [[AlternateUniverse demon counterpart]] Fei, while being less evil than Shendu is in canon, is still an unrepentant villain.
** Without Jade to act as a MoralityPet that leads her to have a HeelFaceTurn, Viper is still a career criminal by the time the story reaches Season 2, with her only objections to the actions Fei carries out [[DemonicPossession using her body]] being her lack of autonomy.

[[AC:''Franchise/JurassicPark'']]
* ''WebVideo/JurassicWhatIf'':
** In Episode 5 ("What If The Indominus Rex was in Jurassic Park?"), the ''Indominus''/''[[AdaptationNameChange Diabolus rex]]'' had a comparatively less dysfunctional upbringing in this timeline under John Hammond's supervision than its canon counterpart, yet it's just as murderous and evil. It even kills Hammond, the man it imprinted upon at birth where its canon counterpart had never had anyone, without any reservations.
** Simon Masrani in Episode 6 ("What If The Mosasaurus Escaped BEFORE Jurassic World?") comes across as being more deliberately amoral than his canon counterpart was ever shown to be. Whereas the canon Simon was depicted as a [[HonestCorporateExecutive decent guy]] and his megacorporation's shadier activities were suggested to be falling beneath his notice due to the size of his corporate empire, in this iteration, it seems harder for Masrani to ignore that his company was deliberately bribing injured victims of the escaped ''Mosasaurus''[='=] killing spree into silence and was suppressing knowledge. Either way, when this gets Simon into serious trouble with the law, he tries to scapegoat Hoskins.

* In ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'', Ingo is greedy and opportunistic when he uses Ganondorf's rise to power to take over the ranch, but many see him as somewhat justified in resenting Talon being in charge given his laziness, and the two end up reconciling by the end of the game. ''Fanfic/TheLegendOfZeldaParadiseCalling'' turns him into a full-on HateSink who's revealed to be physically abusing Malon in his first scene and is never even shown to be a better manager (despite his complaints about Talon), and who goes to much greater lengths to get Talon out of the way and keep Malon in line, even revealing that he set the fire that killed Malon's mother (though he didn't intend to kill her, just to kill enough of the stock to force Talon to sell). When Link thwarts his plan to marry Malon for control of the ranch, he attempts to kill them, breaking out an Iron Knuckle suit supplied by Ganondorf.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse'']]
* ''Fanfic/TheAceSavvyExtendedUniverse'': In the show, the unnamed exterminator from "Along Came a Sister" was a bit obnoxious, referring to the Loud children as "spider huggers" and wanting to kill a spider even after hearing she was a ClassPet. In this series, he's a villain called The Exterminator who sics hoards of bugs on people.
* ''Fanfic/TheBoyWhoCriedIdiot'': While Chandler, Papa Wheelie, and Flat Tire are mean kids on the show, in this story they're homophobic, teasing Martin for being "gay for [Lincoln]".
* ''Fanfic/{{Heroverse}}'':
** [[spoiler:Luan in canon, while she had her moments, was overall a nice person. In this verse, she is a crazed madwoman who instigates a HatePlague to get everyone to reveal their darkest secrets as revenge.]]
** [[spoiler:While already an unlikable {{jerkass}} in canon this version of Tetherby manages to be even worse. Being an outright prick who treats his employees horribly, acts like an asshole, and ultimately is revealed to be the main villain who arranged for the death of Ace Savvy.]]
* ''Fanfic/TheLoudHouseFlowingStar'':
** Chandler was a brat in canon, sure, but he is made into a bully who outright ordered his two lackeys to "finish" Lincoln off.
** [[spoiler:Cristina was merely a girl]] who had right reasons to take Lincoln out of her life, but wasn't so antagonistic behind that. However, in this AU, she is a resentful girl who is planning to ruin him and his estranged sisters' life.
* ''Fanfic/ReversalOfFortuneTLH'': The Loud family in this story are even more callous than they are in the show itself, with Lynn Jr. crossing over into outright psychopathy.

[[AC:''Franchise/MarvelUniverse'']]
* ''Fanfic/BreakingTheDeal''[='=]s version of Mephisto is an odd example in the sense that he isn't any worse than he is in canon, but it's his petty and heavily mocked destruction of Peter Parker and Mary Jane's marriage that has a lot more evil intent behind it. In the infamous ''One More Day'' storyline, the only real justification he had to do it was to preserve the status quo that Marvel's higher-ups preferred. But in this fic, he did it so Peter and MJ's future Sorcerer Supreme daughter couldn't be born, and thus wouldn't be able to stop him from taking over the multiverse and twisting it to his liking.
** It became HilariousInHindsight because, during the run of Nick Spencer, we discover that was the reason why One more day happened: he did it so Peter and MJ's future daughter (who isn't seen to be the Sorcerer Supreme but the principle is still the same), couldn't be born, and thus wouldn't be able to stop him from taking over the world.

The author stated that they did this because they thought the character [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter had some unexplored potential]].
* ''Fanfic/SpiderManFindingHome'' features a variation of this with its interpretation of Abner Jenkins. In the comics, Abner began as a villain under the codename ‘Beetle’ and then became a member of the heroic Thunderbolts using the alias ‘MACH-1’, but here Jenkins is active as a villain while calling himself MACH-1 (although Peter calls him ‘Beetle’ as Jenkins’ armour resembles a beetle).

[[AC:''Franchise/MegaMan'']]
* ''Fanfic/LimitlessPotential'': While in the original games it's implied Sigma had been loyal to humans before his fateful fight with Zero (and thus getting infected with the Maverick Virus), in this story he shows some signs of resentment towards the human council, feeling that they doubt his capacities, showing that he wasn't exactly completely "good" at the time. These feelings are exploited by the Virus via MoreThanMindControl to slowly convince him of going Maverick.
* In ''Fanfic/MegaManDefenderOfTheHumanRace'', Dr. Wily and several Robot Masters are far more villainous than in the show.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'']]
* First, let's just say there's a ''reason'' the show has [[RonTheDeathEater/MiraculousLadybug its own page]] for RonTheDeathEater. It's unfortunately easy to take poorly thought-out moments from the show and build on them to make sympathetic characters...less so. Adrien, Alya, and to a lesser extent Nino and Miss Bustier, are the most common targets, but everyone's been demonized ''somewhere''.
* In ''Fanfic/BurningBridgesBuildingConfidence'', Alya effectively becomes Lila's personal attack dog. While Lila has managed to turn the bulk of their classmates against Marinette and Cole, Alya grows so spiteful and cruel that she deliberately sharpens her fingernails before lunging at her former best friend, trying to claw her face -- and managing to inflict an EyeScream on Cole instead.
** Adrien/Chat Noir also crosses over into villainous territory. It's bad enough when he deliberately [[BetrayalByInaction sits on the sidelines]] while Ladybug fights alone, hoping that [[CavalryRefusal refusing to help]] will force her to admit how much she needs him and agree to [[RelationshipUpgrade start dating him]]. But his behavior only degrades further when he [[NeverMyFault blames Vexxin]] for joining the team and 'throwing off their balance', reaching the point where he sees her outnumbered three-to-one by akuma and decides to perch in a tree and watch, hissing that she ''deserves'' to be brutalized and killed. He also blames Marinette and Cole for standing up to Lila, insisting that they've only got themselves to blame for how she's turned most of their classmates against them.
* ''Blog/MiraculousRewrite'': Unlike {{Canon}}, Mayor Andre Bourgeois doesn't ''need'' his [[SpoiledBrat daughter]] goading him on into abusing his power to her benefit. Quite the opposite, in fact: he interferes with Clara's video shoot ''against'' Chloé's express wishes, badgers Sabrina's father into quitting rather than following his illegal orders, and is generally a much [[SleazyPolitician sleazier politician]]. Then comes the revelation that he [[spoiler:rigged the last election through ballot stuffing]] -- and when an akuma challenges him to [[SadisticChoice choose between his family and his career]], he hems and haws until [[spoiler:Chloé exposes his corruption herself, much to his scandalized shock]].
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/37106875/chapters/92586061 Kivaverse: World of Miraculous]]'': Audrey Bourgeois and Tomoe Tsurugi go from standard AbusiveParents they were in the show to being part of a cabal with Gabriel Agreste to use the Miraculous for their own gains. Both would join up in Shadowmoth's Cult of the Butterfly to aid him. [[spoiler:Though after he had Akumatized the two of them and loses his Miraculouses at the end of season 3, Tomoe deems that Gabriel [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness is no longer fit to lead their organization]], before killing him and taking command of the cult]].
* ''Webcomic/ScarletLady'': Chloé Bourgeois becomes the titular Ladybug Hero, but this does nothing to make her actually ''heroic''. Instead, the adoration she receives as Scarlet Lady feeds into her worst qualities -- her complacency (since her Miraculous Cure is absolutely necessary to clean up after fights, she can get away with doing the bare minimum in them), her ego, and her [[IRejectYourReality delusional self-centeredness]]. She stalks Adrien (despite him being uncanonically clear that he wants nothing to do with her), bullies people to turn them into Akumas, and eventually degenerates to straight-up ''murderous'', as she tries to get The Gamer to kill Marinette and [[ShootTheHostage practically dares Volpina to kill her hostages]] (WordOfGod is that she's so utterly confident that she will defeat the Akumas and get to cast Miraculous Cure that she's [[ThePowerOfApathy completely apathetic]] to others' lives during the battle).
* Happens InUniverse in ''Fanfic/TalesOfKarmicLiesAftermath'': Nooroo specifically requests that his counterpart in ''[[ShowWithinAShow Ladybug: Miraculous Journey]]'' be portrayed as TheManBehindTheMan for its version of Hawk Moth, ''specifically'' because he knows how much [[ControlFreak Gabriel]] would hate seeing any version of him be manipulated by an outside force.
* ''Fanfic/VillainOfYourOwnStory'':
** Following an [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor ill-considered Wish]], Alya finds herself in a [[RealityWarpingIsNotAToy rewritten reality]] where she knows Hawk Moth's SecretIdentity... because she ''is'' Hawk Moth. Her alternate self found the Butterfly Brooch and wanted to become a superhero, but decided Nooroo's SuperEmpowering ability wasn't ''direct'' enough for her tastes, spurring her to become a 'fake' supervillain with the intent of stealing the Miraculous from the heroes so she can have a 'better' power.
** Adrien serves as Alya's HypercompetentSidekick, encouraging her reign of terror out of a desire for {{Revenge}} upon their classmates. He [[BlamingTheVictim holds them responsible]] for Chloé being exposed as a SpoiledBrat who abused her father's position, which led to her being sent off to juvie.
** Alya mistakenly believes this happened to Lila as well; in the new reality, her true nature was exposed when she was CaughtOnTape threatening a celebrity's daughter. Despite how Marinette warned her about Lila in their original world, Alya convinces herself that she must have been ''framed'', the Wish twisting around her desire for Marinette to be happy into making Lila a villainized victim of circumstance.
* ''[[Fanfic/WhatGoesAroundComesAroundMiraculousLadybug What Goes Around Comes Around]]'':
** Being a RecursiveFanfiction for ''Fanfic/TheKarmaOfLies'' makes for an interesting case with Chloé. In ''The Karma of Lies'', she goes through AdaptationalHeroism with a redemption arc, as Ladybug [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech calling her out]] for her betrayal as Miracle Queen causes her to have a HeelRealization and become TheAtoner, working hard to [[CharacterDevelopment become a better person]]. By contrast, here she [[InternalReveal learns Ladybug's secret identity]] ''before'' any such self-revelation, turning the realization that Marinette is Ladybug into an IgnoredEpiphany and spurring her to confront her long-time victim, accusing her of 'tricking her' into admiring Ladybug and demanding she hand over the Miracle Box.
** Emilie Agreste is a much straighter example, revealed to have been EvilAllAlong and [[UnholyMatrimony scheming alongside her husband]] to use the Miraculous to TakeOverTheWorld. She also proves to be just as [[AbusiveParents abusive towards Adrien]], seeing his desire for freedom as childish and manipulating him into [[spoiler:handing over the Black Cat Ring]].
* ''[[Fanfic/TheWolvesInTheWoodsMiraculousLadybug The Wolves in the Woods]]'':
** Aside from [[OnlySaneMan Juleka and Nathaniel]], all of Marinette's classmates turn against her thanks to Lila [[MadeOutToBeAJerkass accusing her of bullying her]], as they hope to curry favor with Lila so that she'll use her [[CelebrityLie supposed celebrity connections]] [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections to their advantage]]. Notably paired with a Lila who ''did not intend'' for the class to go so far, and is ''[[EverybodyHasStandards horrified]]'' by the results.
*** Kim and Alix physically assault Marinette several times, including giving her a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown in the middle of the park.
** Adrien [[BlamingTheVictim blames Marinette]] for 'causing all the problems with Lila' by [[CassandraTruth trying to warn the others about her]]. He witnesses the aforementioned park incident and walks away, telling himself that she brought it onto herself.
*** His canonical dislike for Ladybug calling upon other heroes for help is elevated to full-on CrazyJealousGuy levels. When a new group of heroes introduce themselves to the pair, Chat Noir immediately turns on Ladybug, gripping her arm and forcing her to the ground while ranting about how she should see him as ''special'' due to their unique connection.
** Alya serves as the true ringleader behind all of the bullying efforts, [[ToxicFriendInfluence encouraging everyone]] to turn on Marinette. It's eventually revealed that [[spoiler:she ''knew'' Lila was lying the whole time, but took advantage of it in order to 'take Marinette down a few pegs' [[DrivenByEnvy out of envy]] over Marinette's [[TallPoppySyndrome personal successes]], wanting to break down her self-esteem and keep her as an ExtremeDoormat]].
** Ms. Bustier is fully aware of the bullying but turns a blind eye while [[BlamingTheVictim blaming Marinette]] for ''daring'' to stand up for herself. She specifically wants Marinette to keep being one of her '[[ExtremeDoormat model students]]', feeling that she should allow everyone to continue [[TakingAdvantageOfGenerosity taking advantage of her generosity]].
* PlayedForLaughs in [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/12048297/chapters/27281226 an early drabble fic]]. Emilie was a supervillain, and when she comes back to find that her husband is Hawkmoth she decides to help him with his whole world domination plan because ''clearly'' he's lost his touch if he can't kill two teenagers with superpowers. Gabriel has to explain that the problem is that Chat Noir is their son, and he's in love with Ladybug so killing her is off the table too. Emilie decides to hook Adrien up with that adorable Marinette girl, so he'll forget all about Ladybug, their teamwork will suffer, and she'll be easy pickings. Ladybug, meanwhile, is rather confused when Adrien's mother (who has been unfailingly kind to her while she's in her civilian identity) suddenly pins her to the wall and tells her to stay away from her son.
-->"Listen to me, you reckless little do-gooder. You are going to stay away from my son or, God be my witness, I will destroy you and everything you hold dear. He has a perfectly fine, nice, lovely, ''non-dangerous'' girl in his life and if you ruin his chances with her, I will make short work of you."\
Her smile turns kind and warm again.\
"It was so nice meeting you, Ladybug!" she says, letting Ladybug go.\
For the next few months, Adrien can't figure out why Marinette is terrified of his mom.

[[AC:Franchise/MonsterVerse]]
* ''Fanfic/AbraxasHrodvitnon'': [[Characters/AbraxasHrodvitnonKingGhidorah King Ghidorah]], depending upon [[MultipleHeadCase the head]], explicitly sinks to several levels of vile that Ghidorah's [[Characters/MonsterVerseKingGhidorah MonsterVerse movie portrayal]] was ''never'' shown to be capable of -- whilst Ghidorah's [[TheRuntAtTheEnd left head]] (San) is more of a sympathetic and tragic character than in the movie, the middle and right heads (Ichi and Ni) go in the opposite direction. It's revealed that during the movie's events, Ichi was secretly trying to inflict a FateWorseThanDeath on Dr. Vivienne Graham, [[DisproportionateRetribution just because her peaceful analysis of Ghidorah's frozen body]] pressed Ichi's TraumaButton on pure accident, [[spoiler:and Ichi and Ni are later delighted by the idea of [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil raping]] the [[ArtificialHybrid hybridized]] Vivienne until she [[ChildByRape gets pregnant]] as just another way to [[BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil torture her]] into becoming just as unsalvageably AxCrazy as they are]]. Furthermore, Ichi's chronic abusive treatment of the left head is PlayedForDrama instead of laughs, with the confirmation that Ni also participates; and Ghidorah in this fic shows itself to be a [[CardCarryingVillain Card-Carrying]] OmnicidalManiac, who actively wants to end all life on Earth as a goal in and of itself and has [[PlanetDestroyer already destroyed several other sapient worlds]], compared to how the movie speculated that Ghidorah is probably trying to destroy Earth so as to [[HostileTerraforming xenoform]] it into a more suitable home for Ghidorah.

* ''Fanfic/EmeraldFurnacePathOfStorms'': Izuku joins Nine and his villainous crew.
* ''Fanfic/TheFundamentalEssenceOfVillainy'': A few characters:
** Izuku Midoriya, canonically the 9th holder of One for All, is [[PeggySue sent back in time]] to before canon [[spoiler:with All for One and One for All, as well as all of the quirks contained by both]]. He acts somewhere between a villain and a vigilante, depending on the situation.
** Ochako Uraraka is revealed in ''Zero Hour'' to have been [[spoiler:a cat burglar, working to provide for her parents]]. Izuku hires her to break into [[OriginalCharacter Tectonic]]'s agency before meeting her there and offering her a permanent job working for him.
** Mei Hatsume. Rather than joining UA's Support Course like in canon, here Izuku meets her before the Support Course exam and offers her a place in his group.
** Momo Yaoyorozu, who joins the crew during the events of ''Masquerade'' to get away from her traditional parents.
* ''Fanfic/IgnitedSpark'':
** Nine mentions that the Hero Commission is ''still'' on the business of killing people they deem a threat before they become to powerful (whether by Lady Nagant, Hawks or somebody else, that is to be seen). It would sound far-fetched given his UnreliableNarrator status, if it wasn't for the fact that Nezu mentioned that the HSPC is purposefully withholding information from heroes that are not affiliated to them (such as the Trigger theft, and the murder of the two heroes that were blamed on [[TheScapegoat the Hero Killer]], [[spoiler:both of which were committed by the Consortium]]). President Kanshi Shiryoku confirms that the Commission killed any person who tried snoop around Nagant's fake retirement story.
** [[spoiler:Camie Utsushimi. Rather than the ditzy but still well meaning GenkiGirl from Shiketsu High who wants to become a hero, this Camie is the newest recruit of the Villain Consortium, using her Quirk to spy on the members of Class 1A and stalk them, and only wears a Shiketsu cap to camoflauge on the streets.]]
** Shuichi Iguchi/Spinner, is an agent of the Hero Commission here.
** An AntiVillain example. [[spoiler:Rody Soul is a member of Humarise working directly under a Flect Turn, and complicit on several of their criminal activities. That said, it's clear he only agrees to be part of said schemes to help provide for his younger siblings and it's deeply disturbed by Flect's ruthlessness.]]
* ''Fanfic/MyHeroAcademiaMechanicalGreen'': As a result of failing the Entrance Exam this time around and not receiving the PositiveFriendInfluence being in the Hero Course brought, the UA Traitor[[spoiler:/Yuga Aoyama]] becomes a GreenEyedMonster, convinced everyone else was sabotaging their efforts to get into the Hero Course via the Sports Festival, that [[GenderFlip Izumi]] was a GlorySeeker being given preferential treatment with her use of [[RobotDog Durandal]] during the Entrance Exam, completely deluding themself into thinking everyone ''drove'' them into becoming All For One's spy full time, and planning revenge on the Hero Course while stirring resentment amidst the General Course.
* ''Fanfic/NumberFourteenMHA'':
** The manga's Mitsuki Bakugou is a strict parent who uses discipline to keep her son in line. The fic's Mitsuki is an outright abusive parent who does not feed Katsuki, ignores him, and kicks him out of the house after the Sports Festival, leaving him homeless.
** Hisashi Midoriya is an average businessman working overseas in canon. #14's Hiashi is [[spoiler:[[CompositeCharacter All For One]].]]
* ''Fanfic/RiseOfTheLastVillain'': Izuku joins the League of Villains. [[spoiler:Shoto also joins the League of Villains after being kidnapped during the training camp.]]

* ''Fanfic/TheGodEmpressOfPonykind'': In the [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyRescueAtMidnightCastle G1 special that he premiered in]], Scorpan was a NiceGuy who happened to work for BigBad Tirac, and in ''Friendship is Magic'' it's mentioned that Scorpan befriended the ponies and helped them imprison Tirek in Tartarus. ''The Warmistress of Equestria'', however, portrays Scorpan as a manipulative, bloodthirsty Lord of Chaos whose EvilPlan is to break Tirac out of the Warp and sacrifice Equestria to the Dark Gods.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'']]
* Fittingly for a franchise with [[RonTheDeathEater/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic an entire page]] of characters under RonTheDeathEater, fanworks are full of examples, from Rainbow Dash secretly being a high-ranking member of a fascist Cloudsdale that has [[Fanfic/RainbowFactory children ground up into rainbows]] to [[Fanfic/CupcakesSergeantSprinkles Pinkie Pie secretly being a serial killer]] and to the ''many'' {{Alternate Character Interpretation}}s of Celestia.
* While Discord in canon was certainly malicious and powerful, he was presented more along the lines of a misbehaved brat than anything else, and the episode "Keep Calm and Flutter On" demonstrates that [[spoiler:once he's exposed to ThePowerOfFriendship he starts a friendship with [[MoralityChain Fluttershy]] and becomes an occasional helpful, if still jerkish, TricksterMentor]]. However, many fan stories (most prominently the ''Fanfic/PonyPOVSeries'' and Fanfic/TheNuptialverse) present him as an unrepentant monster, responsible for multiple genocides and the GreaterScopeVillain behind many other villains, among other crimes. This ''is'' somewhat more justified for fanfics that were written before "Keep Calm and Flutter On" and the CharacterDevelopment Discord got in that episode (as in his original two parter Discord was portrayed as a {{Sadist}}ic EvilOverlord who tormented ponies ForTheEvulz, including a stained-glass window of him holding ponies over a pit of flames via puppet strings).
* ''[[http://www.fimfiction.net/story/305759/the-clockwork-consequence The Clockwork Consequence]]'': Because this story takes place in the "Nightmare Moon wins" timeline shown in ''The Cutie Re-mark Part 2'', Nightmare Moon's most loyal servants include the likes of Rarity, Pinkie Pie, (called "Diane") Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Trixie. Fluttershy has yet to appear, but by the way things are going, she too is loyal to Nightmare Moon.
* In the AlternateUniverseFic series ''[[Fanfic/RainboomsAndRoyalty The Dashverse]]'', the canon villains become much more threatening. They aren't so monstrous that the series is grimdark, but they do sink to depths not approachable in canon.
** In ''Rainbooms and Royalty'', the re-imaging of the pilot, Nightmare Moon assaults and repeatedly tries to kill the Mane 6, especially Rainbow Dash, [[spoiler:[[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashes]] Shining Armor and Ditzy Doo into her loyal minions]], and threatened to drop the rest of the Mane 6 to their deaths and forcing Rainbow Dash to [[SadisticChoice choose which ones to save.]] By the end, it is not surprising that Rainbow Dash hasn't forgiven Luna.
** In ''Hot Heads, Cold Hearts, and Nerves of Steel'', King Sombra, who was ''already'' a CrazyPrepared and evil dictator in canon, kidnaps the foals of Ponyville and brings them to the Frozen North. When Rainbow Dash reaches his lair [[spoiler:he enters Rainbow's head and tells him his backstory: he started out as just a snobbish prince ''before'' he obtained the Alicorn Amulet. Afterwards, he sought even greater power, he murdered his wife, manipulated Luna into falling in love with him, and even after his defeat by the Princesses, he knew he had driven Luna into the despair that would create Nightmare Moon. He then reveals his plan, [[PoweredByAForsakenChild to sacrifice the foals]] to increase his power and become an alicorn god. And he comes pretty damn close as well.]]
* ''Fanfic/DiscordsNewBusiness'': Remember Jet Set and Upper Crust, the two jerks from ''Sweet and Elite''? In Luna's chapter, they're revealed to be fanatical racists who, with the help of corrupt guards, beat up non-ponies and brainwash them into never coming back to Canterlot, all in the name of keeping the city "pure". They already had 18 victims, and Luna would have been the 19th...
* In ''Fanfic/TheElementsOfFriendship'', nearly every villain qualifies, as they go from threats dealt with in one or two episodes to powerful threats that need whole {{doorstopper}}s to stop.
** Trixie flat-out cons the town as opposed to simply being a traveling showmare as in canon.
** [[spoiler:Moondancer is part of an organization working for the GreaterScopeVillain. Justified, as she had not even made an appearance on the show when the series started.]]
* Played for laughs in fanfic series ''Fanfic/EvilBelle'', where for no particular reason, Sweetie Belle decides to become the most feared villain Equestria has ever known. HilarityEnsues.
* In ''Fanfic/FallOfStarfleetRebirthOfFriendship'' (a RecursiveFanfiction of ''Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic''), the trope is [[PlayingWithATrope played with]] in general in regards to the titular Starfleet. Generally, they don't act much differently than before. But here, they are stripped of their ProtagonistCenteredMorality from the original, and their actions simply get portrayed as horrifically as they would be perceived in any normal setting. Although, there are a few characters who have additional negative qualities on top of the ones they already had:
** Celesto isn't at all presented as a wise, just ruler, he's fully portrayed as a racist tyrant needing to be overthrown. [[spoiler:He is also revealed to get citizens to accept him as ruler through MindRape, and as being TheManBehindTheMan to two ''Starfleet Magic'' villains.]]
** Rhymey is a sociopathic, envious {{Jerkass}} who openly brainwashed his girlfriend into loving him.
* ''[[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/280566/fallout-equestria-girls Fallout: Equestria Girls]]'' has Adagio Dazzle. [[spoiler:Not only does she kill Aria for turning against her, but she actually tries to kill Twilight and Sunset and cast a spell on hundreds of innocents that, when broken, kills them horribly. She also molests Twilight when she has her captured.]]
* While it's mostly PlayedForLaughs, Princess Celestia gets this a lot. There are memes of her being a tyrant who rules with an iron hoof and sends people to the moon at the slightest annoyance, a Discord-like prankster causing the cast's problems [[ItAmusedMe for the fun of it]], or a MemeticMolester. Look up Tyrant Celestia, Trollestia, and Molestia, respectively. In ''Fanfic/FreedomThroughHarmony'', Celestia is corrupt and banished Luna for trying to reason with her. That still does stop her from becoming Nightmare Moon, though.
* Discord gets this '''bad''' in ''Fanfic/TheImmortalGame'', where he is almost a full-blown EldritchAbomination who delights in turning ponies into [[ForcedTransformation hideous monsters]], MindRape, and tricking ponies into committing horrifying acts. [[spoiler:He is responsible (though not willingly) for the FaceHeelTurn of the fic's BigBad.]] His comedic demeanor is significantly toned down, while his nastiness is ramped up.
* The Royal Guards are usually loyal to Princess Celestia in the show's canon. In ''Fanfic/LovedAndLost'', they turn against her and Shining Armor due to the [[ManipulativeBastard manipulations of her nephew, Prince Jewelius]]. Some of them cause trouble in Ponyville just for fun. In fact, [[spoiler:they don't even object to Jewelius ordering them to massacre Ponyville's inhabitants. However, this is subverted with the revelation that after banishing the [[HeroWithBadPublicity disgraced heroes]], Jewelius had [[SickbedSlaying most of the injured guards]] who remained loyal to the Princesses [[ThePurge murdered]] and [[TradingBarsForStripes replaced them with convicts whom he bribed to be loyal to him]]. When one guard questions the idea of attacking Ponyville, Jewelius promptly [[DestinationDefenestration throws him out of the window]]]].
* ''Blog/{{Moonstuck}}'' is a weird case, as while [[spoiler:Discord is just as nasty as his canon self with the same personality and powers, the comedic traits of the former are strongly downplayed while the latter are played up to almost EldritchAbomination levels]], and the fact that he's doing all this to a ''child'' makes his usual antics ten times worse. The character design also helps; while his canon [[spoiler:goofy {{Mix And Match Critter|s}}]] appearance makes him hard to take seriously sometimes, in ''Moonstuck'' he's drawn in a monochrome, overbearing, heavily sketchy style reminiscent of [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann the Anti-Spirals]].
* ''Fanfic/{{Quiververse}}'':
** Spoiled Rich, already classist and emotionally abusive in canon, graduates to full-on FantasticRacism and physical abuse.
** Star Swirl the Bearded, nominally a hero in canon if something of a stubborn jerk, treats dragons with FantasticRacism and is considered by a GovernmentConspiracy which practices brainwashing and manipulates the Equestrian government and military, to be its founder.
* ''Fanfic/{{Pandemic}}'' does this with Sunset Shimmer. In ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls1'', she was Celestia's megalomaniac former student, who while bad, behaved like a teenage AlphaBitch for much of the movie, but turned over a new leaf. In this story, [[spoiler: Sunset is a MadScientist who, [[AffablyEvil while nicer]] than her canon self [[WellIntentionedExtremist and with more noble goals]], is planning to forcibly transform ''billions of humans beings'' into ponies through biological warfare. She's gone from Queen Bee to trying to wipe out an entire species]].
* Trixie gets hit ''hard'' with this in ''[[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/35169/the-piano-man The Piano Man]]''. While in canon she was mainly an egotistical braggart, in this story, she is an abusive, vicious psychopath who spends the story enslaving and torturing the human protagonist, all so he can play the piano for her shows. [[spoiler: She later tries to murder the protagonist to avoid imprisonment. This is fortunately subverted with the Mane cast, who were unaware that Trixie was enslaving and mistreating a sentient creature, and help him out when they discover the conditions he lived under]].
* ''[[http://www.fimfiction.net/story/159974/pony-age-catalyst Pony Age: Catalyst]]'': Miss Harshwhinny. In the show, she was a JerkWithAHeartOfGold. Here, however, she's a RichBitch CorruptPolitician. There's also Iron Will, when you're a Minotaur in a crossover with a game where Minotaurs are enemies, what choice do you have?
* ''Fanfic/PrincessTrixieSparkle'' does this with Trixie, who in the show was (not counting when she was under the influences of The Alicorn Amulet) an egotistical JerkAss at worst, and even then outside of that aforementioned incident, she arguably had not done anything morally wrong. In this story, she is a [[ManipulativeBastard manipulative bitch]] who tricks Twilight into letting her steal her identity, frames her and her friends, and [[spoiler: she has Twilight locked in the dungeon and sadistically gloats that she will be trapped in there alone for the rest of her life.]] Granted, [[spoiler:she is being influenced by the ''[[TheManBehindTheMan true]]'' BigBad and does make a HeelFaceTurn by the end, but even so, she went above and beyond what she was actually supposed to do and it understandably takes ''awhile'' before anyone is ready to forgive her.]]
* ''Fanfic/RainbowDoubleDashsLunaverse'' is explicitly an AU with the premise that it was Celestia rather than Princess Luna who went insane. This trope also applies (to a lesser degree) to the Celestiaverse Elements. Lack of the friendships of the others has left them all (but most especially Twilight and Applejack) somewhat... warped.
* This trope is omnipresent throughout ''Fanfic/TheRainsverse''. The Mane Six have fallen into darkness (tempted by Scorpan), Fancy Pants is the worst kind of RichBitch, Baroness Coco Pommel oppressed and mistreated Suri Polomare, and so forth. Conversely, [[AdaptationalHeroism the opposite trope]] is just as common.
* ''Fanfic/ScentedVenom'': This fic's portrayal of Discord is practically an entirely different character, being a flat out Sadist with the powers of a RealityWarper. He has made it his goal to make Celestia's life a living hell.
* In ''Fanfic/SunsetOfTime'', the BigBad Vesper Radiance is a re-imagining of a canon antagonist. For it, she's not only far worse than she was in the canon, she's worse than any of the other villains too. She's ambitious, hungry for power, casually murders (or attempts to murder) several characters, and her ultimate goal is to become a PhysicalGod to rule over Equestria -- after killing off all three Princesses, Twilight and her friends, and anyone else who dares try to stop her.

[[AC:''Franchise/{{Naruto}}'']]
* ''Fanfic/TheKakashiWay'': While Sasuke swiftly delivers a cathartic [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomping]] to Danzo, ripping out [[spoiler:his stolen Sharingan]] and exposing his treachery to the Sandaime, it rapidly becomes clear that Danzo played a key role in causing a ''lot'' of suffering -- and was involved in far more of the series' tragic backstories than he was canonically. This ensures that the impact of Danzo's scheming hits HARD despite his swift exposure, shaping the story into more of a {{Dramedy}}.
* ''Fanfic/KitsuneNoKenFistOfTheFox'':
** Utakata, Yagura and Gaara are the three most villainous members of the Kyuushingai introduced, with Utakata being an AxCrazy SerialKiller who'll even [[WouldHurtAChild murder children]] in his rampages, Yagura being a cold-blooded gang leader who's infamous for making witnesses set to testify against him "disappear", and Gaara being an aspiring [[TheAggressiveDrugDealer drug kingpin]] who's in an alliance with Yagura. Contrast their canon counterparts from ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'', where Utakata was merely disillusioned after being mistreated due to his jinchuriki status but wasn't otherwise stated to be evil, Yagura only had his bad reputation because he was manipulated into committing bloody actions during his time as the Mizukage, and Gaara is one of Naruto's staunchest friends and allies (though he did start out AxCrazy and only wound up undergoing a HeelFaceTurn following [[DefeatMeansFriendship being defeated in combat by Naruto]]).
** Konan is a member of Akatsuki and determined to kill the Kyuushingai no matter what (in canon, she's also a member of Akatsuki, but there she's a WellIntentionedExtremist who later becomes one of Naruto's supporters).
** The members of the LOVE syndicate's Council of the Dawn, of which Gaara is the leader and Yagura is a member; aside from them, the members include Temari, Kankuro, Matsuri, Chojuro, Darui, Menma, Yura, Sumaru and Kurotsuchi. All of them are criminals, with [[CoDragons Temari and Kankuro]] being Gaara's personal guards, Matsuri being the group's secretary and an assassin in her own right, and the rest being the heads of their own minor syndicates. Contrast that with their canon counterparts: Temari and Kankuro, while they started out as antagonists alongside Gaara, eventually became allies of Konoha; Matsuri, Chojuro, Darui, and Kurotsuchi were allied to Konoha along with their respective villages during the Fourth Great Ninja War; Sumaru started his filler arc being rude to Naruto but eventually became his friend; Menma (the filler character, not the one from the movie) was TheAtoner who'd tried to pull LaserGuidedAmnesia on himself in an effort to leave his bad past behind; and Yura was loyal to the welfare of the Hidden Sand Village [[spoiler:even while he was Sasori's sleeper agent]].
* ''Fanfic/TheLastPrayer:''
** In canon, Sasuke started out gruff and unfriendly but eventually warmed up to his team. He ''did'' become outright villainous, but only due to [[MoreThanMindControl several]] [[SanitySlippage mitigating]] [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity factors]]. In this story, Sasuke's a psychopath ready to murder his teammates at the drop of a hat from the very beginning. Notably, when Sakura tells Sasuke she "wants to understand him better", he rants at her and threatens to murder her parents.
** In canon, Haku refused to kill anyone, something that Zabuza insisted made him too soft. In this story, Haku originally plans to force Tenten to murder a random homeless person in order to "get rid of her innocence". When she categorically refuses, Hake instead orders her to have sex with Naruto for the same reason. He even goes so far as to state that the only reason he's not raping her himself is that he's not interested in women.
* ''Fanfic/ObitoSensei'': Gaara never gets his canon HeelFaceTurn due to a combination of factors: Naruto never becoming a Jinchuriki means he doesn't have the emotional context to try and reach out to him, while [[AdaptationalBadass Sakura]], whom he fights instead, just plain hates him and sees him as a monster. Meanwhile, his father, who was largely responsible for his state, is SparedByTheAdaptation and continues treating him as a {{Tykebomb}}. As a result, not only does Gaara never get better, he becomes much, ''much'' worse. [[spoiler:Just look at [[PersonOfMassDestruction what he did to the Land of Waves]]]].
* ''Fanfic/SonOfTheSannin'':
** Orochimaru, coupled with averting VillainDecay through and through. In fact, despite officially cutting ties with them, by the Fourth Ninja War he chooses to ally ''with'' Akatsuki rather than against them like he did in canon.
** PlayedWith regarding Danzo. [[spoiler:It eventually comes to light that he was leaking the location of the jinchuriki to Akatsuki (which leads him to defect to Orochimaru before he can be arrested for treason), but then it turns out that this was the result of him being brainwashed by Obito, leaving his list of crimes more or less identical to canon.]]
** Kabuto never undergoes a HeelFaceTurn like he did in canon [[spoiler:[[DeathByAdaptation due to getting killed off before those events causing it could take place]]]].
** Toneri Otsutsuki becomes the major antagonist for Hinata's arc, starting by being the true mastermind behind her attempted kidnapping by Kumogakure, [[EntitledToHaveYou repeated attacks on her to take her (and later extending it to her sister Hanabi)]], [[MurderTheHypotenuse attempting to kill Naruto (whom at this point is in a relationship with her)]], and gloating about using the eyes of her [[spoiler:deceased]] father Hiashi. He pretty much seals it by [[RedemptionRejection rejecting Hinata's offer to join them in bringing down Akatsuki]] after he breaks out of the brainwashing that made him join in the first place, [[spoiler:so their final battle ends with her killing him off]].
* In ''Fanfic/YourMoveInstigatorDrawYourWeaponAndHoldYourTongue'', the Third Shinobi War continues for many years past its canonical end, with Hiruzen never stepping down and passing the role of Hokage to Minato. As a result, TheChainsOfCommanding weigh heavily upon his shoulders, and he has allowed [[TheManBehindTheMan Danzo]] to secretly dictate more and more about how Konoha is being run, treating it all as unfortunately necessary DirtyBusiness. This has resulted in changes like turning Kushina into a PersonOfMassDestruction and a common war weapon, and forcibly recruiting even younger ChildSoldiers, treating every child in Konoha who isn't protected by being a clan heir like disposable {{Mook}}s, throwing children as young as five and six into battle. At one point, while [[ConversationalTroping wondering who the]] BigBad of their story would be, Team 14 decides that while Danzo is the main villain, Hiruzen is just as bad for enabling him.

[[AC:''Franchise/NeonGenesisEvangelion'']]
* ''Fanfic/TheChildOfLove'' does this to Gendo Ikari. In the original series, he was a broken shell of a man who did horrible things to get his wife back, and cared about his son deep down but sent him away because of his fears that he wouldn't be a good father to Shinji. In this story he makes horrible things because he has [[AGodAmI delusions of godhood]], does not care about Shinji at all, and he [[spoiler:is willing to use babies to fight his war]].

[[AC:''VideoGame/{{OMORI}}'']]
* ''Fanfic/{{Hands|Omori}}'': The story follows an alternative reading of the game's story where Mari is portrayed as a predator who molested Sunny and is thought by Aubrey to have planned to prey on Basil.
* ''Fanfic/IllFindHimPursuitAU'': Hero's portrayal here is darker than both his game self and the Hero of ''Fanfic/YoureBackMari'', the fic it is an alternate continuation of. While Hero's mounting emotional repression and using Sunny as a LivingEmotionalCrutch in ''You're back, Mari'' led him to make reckless decisions, his SanitySlippage in ''I'll find him'' turns him into an abusive manipulator that kidnapped and deprived Sunny for his own peace of mind. [[spoiler:By the end of the fic, he's willing to even kill his old friend and own brother if it means getting Sunny back under his thumb.]]

[[AC:''Series/OnceUponATime'']]
* ''Fanfic/AComedyOfErrors'': While Hook started out as a villain in the show, he eventually turned good and became Emma's main love interest. Here Hook is willing to use a potion to force Emma to fall in love with him, something that is far worse than anything he has done in the show even as a villain.

* ''Fanfic/ConvergentDevil'': Unlike canon where Arlong merely shot Bell-mère in the head, here he shot her in the stomach and tied her to a cross in the middle of town so everyone would be forced to watch her die. Afterwards, she was left to rot with anyone who tried to take the body down beaten badly by the fishmen. Nami was forced to buy back her mother's corpse just to give her a proper burial.

* In canon, King Frederic is a ReasonableAuthorityFigure who understands that Cassandra was being manipulated and not in her right mind when she committed her crimes, and lets her leave peacefully at the end of the series. But in the fic ''Fanfic/OnTrial'', he is revealed to have known all along that Cassandra was Gothel's biological daughter, and ''hated'' her for it. So much so that he gives Cassandra the titular trial in a KangarooCourt after keeping her in solitary confinement for over a month, then practically sells her into slavery (and that's just the ''start'' of her TraumaCongaLine). Everyone later admits that he went too far.

[[AC:''Franchise/{{Persona}}'']]
* ''Fanfic/ATaleOfTwoTricksters'': In the original game, Joker is the PlayerCharacter and hero of the story. In ''A Tale of Two Tricksters'', the effect of the ButterflyOfDoom of Ren not entering the Metaverse at April 11 and failing to save Shiho from Kamoshida caused the Shujin enrolled thieves to receive an AdaptationalJerkass due to said ButterflyOfDoom making them think that Ren is guilty for what happened to Shiho when he is actually innocent. It gave Ren a huge AdaptationalAngstUpgrade that the torment and anguish causes Ren to later join hands with Akechi and become the greatest threat to the Phantom Thieves, with Ren being a lot more ruthless than canonical Joker would have been. However, Ren is a [[DownplayedTrope downplayed]] example in contrast to the "Accepts Yaldabaoth's deal" BadEnding Joker, whom the author states to be one of the inspirations for this characterization of Ren in their story due to Ren having a handful of MoralityPet's in [[spoiler:Akechi, Futaba, and Sojiro]] among some examples. While he isn't as evil as that BadEnding Joker, Ren is still willing to manipulate and dirty his hands to keep his MoralityPet safe to do so.
* ''Chained Wings'': In the original game, Wakaba Isshiki is Futaba's loving mother who was murdered two years before the events of the game for her groundbreaking cognitive psience research. Here, she's very much alive and was the head researcher at a facility for cognitive psience several years before the story begins. Now, she's borderline obsessed with her research in canon to the point of slightly neglecting her daughter, but we never get the feeling that her canon self would stoop to ''torturing prospective Persona-users''—all of them ''children'', '''including her own ''daughter'''''—to get them to Awaken, ForScience
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/26708923/ Covering the Phantom Thieves]]'' impressively manages to do this with Suguru Kamoshida. While one of the most monstrous villains in the original game, he's also a LoneWolfBoss with no connection to [[BigBad Masayoshi Shido's]] conspiracy. This fic reveals that Kamoshida had previously had several of his accusers, including two teenage girls, murdered by mental shutdown.
* ''Fanfic/TheEvilQueen'': In the original game, [[StudentCouncilPresident Makoto Niijima]] and [[JapaneseDelinquent Ryuji Sakamoto]] are good-hearted people who become members of the Phantom Thieves to put a stop to corruption and evil. Here, Makoto is blackmailing the principal of Shujin Academy and rules it like a dictator to make her dream of a utopia and has groomed Ryuji into her enforcer to bully and strong-arm "troublemakers" into line.
* ''Webcomic/Persona5AdultConfidantAU'': In the original game, Makoto Niijima is a member of the Phantom Thieves, becoming the de-facto [[NumberTwo second-in-command]] of the team upon joining. Here, she takes her sister Sae's role as one of the Phantom Thieves' Palace targets.

* “[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/26494972/ (Just Like) Starting Over]]” reveals that Chloe’s love interest in the third film, Chicago, was subtly abusive towards her after the tour was over, as he spent the whole relationship undermining her confidence and sense of self-worth, {{Gaslighting}} her to believe everyone else saw Chloe as worthless until she contacted her parents on a line Chicago didn’t control.

* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13653421/1/Ash-s-Adventure-Girls-Hunter-Edition Ash's Adventures: Girls' Hunter Edition]]'':
** Norman is apparently an abusive and neglectful parent.
** Professor Ivy joined Team Rocket as a TortureTechnician.
* A relatively minor example in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10775786/1/The-Leaves-of-Change The Leaves of Change]]''; prior to the events of the fic, Ash had a relationship with Serena, but she eventually broke up with him and told him that he might as well give up on being a Pokémon master as he's clearly a bad trainer. This confrontation left Ash feeling so depressed that he basically "hides" away in Pallet for a few months until Misty helps him get back on his feet and inspires him to start trying again.
* Deoxys in ''Fanfic/LatiasJourney'' is a shamelessly sadistic and unapologetically evil monster who kills, tortures, and manipulates anyone he meets because he can, and destroyed a thousand inhabited planets before the story begins. In the games and anime, while Deoxys does have some BlueAndOrangeMorality issues and [[PoorCommunicationKills trouble communicating]] with the Pokemon world's residents due to being an alien, it's more curious than malicious and is able to interact with humans and other Pokemon peacefully.
* Throughout ''Fanfic/PokeWars'', several Legendary Pokemon get this, including Uxie and especially Ho-Oh, who is a genocidal [[FantasticRacism Fantastic Racist]] and KnightTemplar who wants to KillAllHumans. In the games, the lore surrounding Ho-Oh suggests that it's reclusive but benevolent, while Uxie is a benevolent being who only uses its more frightening powers in self-defense or against bad people.
* ''Webcomic/PMDTheRogueTeam'': In the original ''[[Videogame/PokemonSuperMysteryDungeon Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon]]'' game, the Partner is a loud, energetic, mischief-maker child, but ultimately has a good heart. In this comic, they're represented by Tabor, a sardonic treecko who takes delight in his enemies' misfortunes. His [[CheshireCatGrin wide grin]] when encountering a drowning fennekin girl also implies ulterior motives for helping her out.
* ''[[Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines Pokémon Reset Bloodlines]]'':
** While the Spearow flock near Pallet Town in the anime was aggressive in the extreme, they ''did'' have legitimate provocation to attack Ash and Pikachu. But in this story, they attack the duo even though the worst thing they did to them was walk near the place they were roosting in.
** Giovanni's evil deeds are ramped up from the anime. While he clearly wasn't a good person there, much of the more severe villainy one would expect from a character like him is, at most, only implied. This fic, however, is quite explicit about the awful things he does (such as having people murdered), fitting for the DarkerAndEdgier tone of the story.
** In [[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue the games]], [[GlitchEntity MissingNo]] was a glitch that, while damaging to the game, didn't have any malice. Here, it's the Pokémon equivalent of {{Satan}}, complete with [[DealWithTheDevil Faustian bargains]]. It appears only to mess with Ash's head and tell him [[spoiler:that bad things will happen to his friends from the original timeline]], done as vaguely as possible with the full knowledge Ash can't do anything to realistically stop it. It also mentions that some of these horrible events have already happened, such as [[spoiler:the deaths of Brock's parents]]. It even expresses disappointment that [[spoiler:Norman managed to prevent May from suffering a tragedy]].
** In the ''[[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Pokémon]]'' [[Anime/PokemonTheSeries anime]], the Sensational Sisters were merely irresponsible and uninterested in their duties as Gym Leaders. While they teased Misty, they were never actually cruel in doing so and genuinely cared about her. At the end of their debut episode, they gave Ash a Cascade Badge out of gratitude for him saving their gym. The fic makes them flat-out corrupt (it's implied they offer trainers money and/or sex in exchange for them throwing matches), keep their Pokémon confined in balls for ''months'' at a time, outright '''despise''' Misty ([[ItIsDehumanizing referring to her as "it"]] and kicking her out as soon as they can), and trick/force Ash into a battle they're sure he'll lose so they can keep their gym, not caring that [[spoiler:he'll be barred from taking part in Gym Battles for a year if he does]].
** Paul is an interesting example, because his actual character doesn't change that much, but rather than portraying him as a cool figure, it portrays him as an abusive jerk. At one point, he actually insults Lt. Surge for not wanting to risk his Raichu being horribly maimed by a super-powered Razor Leaf attack.
** Belmondo in the anime was a serious jerk, but he didn't kidnap children like his counterpart in the ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12102655/1/Pok%C3%A9mon-Reset-Bloodlines-Clemont-Gaiden Clemont Gaiden]]''.
** Sabrina is portrayed as even worse than her anime incarnation (who was herself already an example of this trope), being a murderous [[TheSocialDarwinist social Darwinist]] who cold-bloodedly kills those she considers "weak" or "useless". This includes people who don't make a good enough showing in a gym battle against her.
** Ash's father was a non-entity in the anime, other than the light novel, which states that he left his family due to the pressures of Pokémon training. Here, he's all but outright stated to be a violent criminal who fathered dozens of illegitimate children and then abandoned them. [[spoiler: Then comes the reveal in [[WhamEpisode Chapter 34]], it turns out he's the [[BigBad Bloodline King.]]]]
** Hilda is portrayed as a minion working for the Bloodline Prince, [[TheStarscream who plans to overthrow his father]] and TakeOverTheWorld in his stead.
* Ghetsis in ''Fanfic/PokemonRetoldBlack'' is as unpleasant and sadistic as he was in canon, with his cruelty further expanded upon to make him a bigger creep. For starters, [[spoiler:N ''is'' his son, and he purposefully abandoned him in the Giant Chasm's forest before "rescuing" him to help groom him into his perfect pawn. He also fathered him with Anthea, who was sixteen at the time.]] And in the present day, he's a brutal sadist who will beat his men bloody for the smallest provocations, or none at all.
* In ''Fanfic/PokemonShadowOfTime'', this Trope basically applies to N, who has gone from being an ally of Ash's as he was in the anime to an enemy whose warped view of the trainer/Pokemon dynamic leads to him nearly crippling Ash when he literally melts Charizard's Poke Ball while Ash is holding it.
* ''Fanfic/TheRoadToBeAPokemonMaster'':
** Team Rocket is shown gleefully gangraping Melanie and torturing pokemon for kicks rather than simply selling them for profit. According to Bill, several of the pokemon they tortured died of their injuries, with a Rhyhorn having to have its leg amputated after one grunt went after it with a chainsaw.
** Damian as well goes through something similar here, namely [[spoiler:joining Team Rocket just for the sake of getting revenge on Ash [[{{Hypocrite}} and the Charmander he abandoned]]]], and is overall shown to be a violent sadist.
** Giovanni's villainy in canon is mostly implied since he's the leader of an evil organization. Not here, where he tries to murder Ash multiple times, either through his agents or personally, and [[spoiler:kidnaps Delia and Gary to lure Ash to the Viridian City gym in order to kill him there]].
* Damian, a one-shot character from ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'', was originally just a {{Jerkass}} becomes a dangerous psychopath in ''FanFic/{{Symbiosis}}''. He is willing to ''kill'' Ash to get revenge on Brock and Misty for reporting his crime.
* ''Fanfic/PokemonWarsOfTheDark'' does this to two of Misty's sisters Violet and Lily by taking their portrayal from ''Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines'' and making it even ''worse'' by using Daisy to [[DeconstructedCharacterArchetype deconstruct]] BigSisterBully. Because of multiple signs, including MindRape from [[Fanfic/PokemonStrangledRed an undead Charizard]] and Misty getting increasingly more apathetic, Daisy realizes her behavior towards Misty was wrong. However, Violet and Lily started hating her for trying to treat "the thing" better, seeing Daisy as a traitor.

[[AC:''Franchise/PowerRangers'']]
* In the mass team-up fic ''Fanfic/CrimsonRising'', when Ivan Ooze returns to Earth, a new organisation known as Section Nine is revealed to have been monitoring the Power Rangers for years, and the general in charge declares that all Rangers are vigilantes and must either work with him or be arrested. Most Rangers choose to remain independent even after the general arrests Mr Collins and freezes Anton Mercer's assets, but Will, the [[Series/PowerRangersOperationOverdrive Operation Overdrive]] Black Ranger, freely turns on the rest of the Rangers, denouncing them all as failures where he prefers to remain well-paid. While Dax, the Overdrive Blue Ranger, remains with Will to reap the benefits of being a Power Ranger with official sanction, Mack immediately rejects the 'offer' and Ronny and Rose join the other Rangers as soon as they witness the lengths the government will go to trying to control the other Rangers. Will remains with Section Nine for some time, the organisation using their own zords while trying to outdo the 'renegade' Rangers, [[spoiler:but he officially defects to join the other Rangers when he witnesses his employers attempting to torture Tori Hanson's little sister to get her father to cooperate]].
* The ''Series/PowerRangersSPD'' fic ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2351695/1/Kings-and-Vagabonds Kings and Vagabonds]]'' essentially makes Commander Crueger a villain as he arranged for all four members of his future SPD team to be abducted from their parents (Jack is not the team's Red Ranger in this version of events) and relocated to Earth so that he could guarantee that they would be trained in their powers and ready to defend Earth from Emperor Grumm. While his actions can be justified as a WellIntentionedExtremist trying to stop Earth from suffering the same fate that befell his own planet, Crueger later finds himself realising that he may not have needed to go that far as all four children were [[RelatedInTheAdaptation the children of former Power Rangers]] who would probably have been willing to defend Earth on their own accord.
* Basically applies to Trent in the ''Series/PowerRangersDinoThunder'' fic ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3129006/1/Legends-and-Heroes Legends and Heroes]]''; in canon, every evil action he committed was the result of him being under the initial corruptive influence of the White Dino Gem, but here he actively attempts to sabotage Conner and Kira's potential relationship so that he can have Kira to himself. He tries to argue that he is only doing this because he truly admires Kira and feels that Conner wouldn't respect her, but Kira counters that if he can't respect her choice to be with Conner, he doesn't respect her as a person.
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/22832026 Power Rangers AVX]]'' turns Ruffian Bōma, a NonMaliciousMonster ForcedIntoEvil into Smashmouth, a violent bully who takes pleasure in beating up a traitor to the cause.
* ''WebVideo/PowerRangersBootlegUniverse'' does this to Rocky, having him sell out to and join the Machine Empire. [[spoiler:Bulk and Skull are also imagined as meth users who sold out Jason and killed him for for Empire's version of the drug, and Zack is a BloodKnight who joined the Machine Empire just because he liked to fight so much.]]
* In the ''Series/PowerRangersDinoThunder'' fic "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2142730/1/Thunder-Struck-Revised Thunder Struck Revised]]", this basically applies to the original Pink Rangers. In Kimberly's case, she was 'just' brainwashed to become Elsa as part of a sick joke by Mesogog, as Smitty was attracted to Kimberly and resented how even her Elsa identity preferred Tommy, while Mesogog thought it amusing to force Tommy to fight Elsa knowing that Kimberly was still in there. However, when Tommy and Kim talk about their past, it is revealed that Kat talked Kim into breaking up with Tommy by convincing her that Tommy was getting distracted in the field and she needed to break things off with him so that he could focus; considering that Tommy and Kat dated for the better part of three years after that break-up, it makes Kat's true agenda so clear that Tommy throws a few things in Hayley's lab in a fit of anger.

[[AC:''Literature/TheRisingOfTheShieldHero'']]
* In contrast to Malty becoming a {{Pragmatic Villain|y}} in ''Fanfic/AmbitionOfTheRedPrincess'', Queen Mirelle is less pleasant compared to her ReasonableAuthorityFigure canon counterpart, having no love for her eldest daughter and sharing the same anti-demihumans prejudice as her husband.

* Ozpin is generally the most frequent recipient of this trope in fanfiction, primarily due to the fact that his backstory and motivations weren't explained until the show's sixth season. Even after he's confirmed to be the BigGood, characters and fans alike point out that his very real flaws can and do cause serious problems.
* Creator/CoeurAlAran:
** ''Fanfic/{{Arcanum}}'': Whereas the canon Glynda Goodwitch, for all her strictness, was loyal to [[BigGood Ozpin]] and committed to her students and school, Glynda in this fic is incredibly corrupt and amoral, [[spoiler:using mind-damaging potions to make others do her bidding]].
** ''Fanfic/ArcCorp'': The Schnee family in general: not only Jacques but also Nicholas and Winter are aware of the anomalies and unscrupulously exploit them for profit without a care for how it affects their clients, with Weiss also at the very least aware of her family's activities. [[spoiler:To say nothing of the fact they've been practicing routine human and Faunus sacrifice to an anomaly]].
%%** ''Fanfic/ForgedDestiny'': This version of Mercury Black, Jacques Schnee, White Fang, Winchester and Raven Branwen are far worse than their canon web animation counterparts.
** ''Fanfic/NotThisTimeFate'': Compared to her canon counterpart's post-V5 story arc of wanting vengeance on Ruby and Ruby alone for Roman's death, Neo in this fic goes even further when seeking vengeance on Jaune for the same: [[RevengeByProxy targeting Jaune's family instead of Jaune himself]], and personally attempting to stab Jaune's mother through her heavily-pregnant stomach during the climax.
** ''Fanfic/{{Null}}'': Whereas the canon Pietro Polendina was a loving father to Penny and by all accounts a good man, Pietro in this fic is involved with the monstrous GovernmentConspiracy that kidnaps and inhumanely experiments on people, [[spoiler:and he [[NeverMyFault refuses to take responsibility]] for the crimes that Chivalric Arms force Penny to commit while putting keeping the truth from her ahead of the lives of others]].
** ''Fanfic/{{White Sheep|RWBY}}'':
*** Ozpin is quite a bit worse in this fic than in canon. It starts with him being far less accepting of his mistakes and ends with him [[spoiler:being fully willing to see Atlas destroyed if it will unite humanity against the Grimm]]. That being said, Jaune points out that since he's been fighting Salem for thousands of years, the idea that [[LoveRedeems she fell in love and gave up her plans to destroy the human race twenty-five years ago]] sounds absolutely ridiculous. And even at the start of the story, Salem ''was'' giving her adoptive daughter the resources she needed to destroy Vale; it's only much later that she finally pulls an official HeelFaceTurn, [[spoiler:when she lets Jaune announce the existence of Grimm royalty and sue for peace]]. Still, Ozpin gets called out by multiple people, especially for what he does to Yang and Oscar, until [[spoiler:he asks the Jinn of Knowledge what Salem's plans are, and it turns out Salem simply wants to find a way to get rid of her immortality so that she can grow old and die with her husband. Ozpin initially doesn't believe it, but soon swallows his pride and reconciles with Salem's family. Nicholas even lets him meet their daughters]].
*** In canon, Leo Lionheart was a coward willing to obey any horrible order in the hopes that Salem would eventually release him. Here, all the terrible things he did were simply done under the ''assumption'' that they were what she wanted. He personally ambushed and killed most of the huntsmen in his Kingdom himself, despite Salem never ordering such a thing. [[spoiler:He survives the Battle of Haven and is arrested for his crimes]].

* ''Fanfic/AuntSalem'': Pyrrha, Ren, and Nora are minions of the Queen of Grimm, [[AffablyEvil albeit friendly ones]], with all the ruthlessness and violence that such a position entails.

* ''WebVideo/CanOneChangeFixAllOfRWBY'':
** General James Ironwood and Theodore. Whereas their canon counterparts were men committed to protecting Remnant's people, in this incarnation, they're both knowingly allied with the evil immortal instead of the good one in the secret war, making Team RWBY a lot more justified in opposing Ironwood and removing the Staff of Creation. Calxyin suggests that this version of Ironwood deliberately engineered and exacerbated the class divide between Atlas and Mantle when he lifted Atlas City into the sky.
** Thanks to the evil immortal's machinations, a lot of characters who were consistently counted among the good guys end up dancing to the bad guys' tune as {{unwitting pawn}}s and opposing Team RWBY; including Team JNR, Team CFVY and Penny.
* ''Fanfic/ChildrenOfRemnant'':
** Raven is apparently much worse than she was in canon; while [[OffscreenVillainy this isn't demonstrated on-page]], Qrow has already completely given up on redeeming her while it took him until Volume 5 in canon to reach that point.
** Out of desperation and despair, Klein is willingly working with Cinder in an attempt to undermine Jaune's peace attempts and secure Salem's favor.
* All of Team RWBY in ''Fanfic/TheCommission'' are not only villains, but are the bosses of canon villains like Adam Taurus, Cinder Fall, and Roman Torchwick.
%%* Two others RWBY fanfic (A Rose Burnt to Cinders by TelvariaMalexia and War by FNW2) version of [[BigBad Salem]] are far worse than her canon web animation counterpart.

* ''Fanfic/MyAbominableMonsterClassmatesCantBeThisCute'': ''All'' of Team RWBY and several other teenage huntsmen and huntresses start the fic as savage, brutal human-Grimm hybrids who have been indoctrinated to serve Salem as infiltrators and killers of man (albeit [[TragicMonster not by their own choice]]), although Jaune is working on breaking RWBY of Salem's brainwashing with gradual success. Salem herself meanwhile has yet to display any of the humanizing traits of her canon counterpart, and she's crossed a couple lines that even her canon counterpart hasn't crossed as far as we know: [[spoiler:keeping Summer Rose blinded but alive and fit for years solely so that she can parade a Grimmified, amnesiac Ruby who has no memory of Summer and regards Salem as her true mother in front of her, over and over again]].
* Salem in ''Fanfic/RubyAndNora'' isn’t the AffablyEvil BenevolentBoss she is in canon, instead she’s a [[EvilIsPetty petty]], [[{{Sadist}} sadistic]] [[PsychopathicManchild child]] in the body of a HumanoidAbomination.
* Almost every hero from ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' is now a villain in ''Fanfic/RWBYDark''; Ruby is now a [[TheSociopath sociopathic]] serial killer, Weiss is a CorruptCorporateExecutive, Blake is the terroristic leader of the White Fang, Yang is Ruby's tortured lapdog, etc.
* Countless examples in ''Fanfic/ValesUnderground'', but the most prominent is Qrow Branwen. He was a heroic figure in the show, but here, he works with his sister as a mob boss. His job is manipulating and bribing politicians, and threatening anyone who doesn't comply.

* Basically applies to Stephanie in ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/16205873 Baby]]'' when she joins Emily's plan to fake her death by killing Faith and framing Sean for it. However, this version of events includes Sean being more outright intimidating towards Emily while Faith is explicitly blackmailing her sister for money. In contrast to the original film, where Emily attacked people just for being "in her way", she at least has more legitimate reasons for wanting her husband and sister out of her life, beyond just wanting to be with her new lover.

* Think [[Series/GameOfThrones Joffrey Baratheon]] was a monster in-canon? In ''Fanfic/ACagedSongbird'', he's even ''worse'', consistently invoking his MaritalRapeLicense with Sansa Stark after their marriage. He also strikes her rather than delegating the task to his Kingsguard, cutting her face with his ring, almost causing her to miscarry, and threatening to kill her before having his soldiers rape her in front of the royal court. He also destroyed the Red Keep's godswood because she had gone there to be away from him.
* ''Fanfic/AnEmpireOfIceAndFire'':
** The High Sparrow backs Joffrey, showing that he cares less about the people than he does about the Faith's supremacy.
** Though shifty to begin with in canon, [[spoiler:Daario Naharis]] betrays Daenerys due to her not reciprocating his affections to her, and joins up with Joffrey instead.
** Joffrey (though, in this case, it is more like "Adaptational Insanity". Just when you thought his canon version was bad, here, thanks to Littlefinger's manipulations, he declares himself a God-King, enslaves countless Westerosi smallfolk, and burns alive [[spoiler:his own sister, Myrcella]], for a blood sacrifice.
* ''Fanfic/MyFathersSon'': Still being young and learning the Game, Renly Baratheon gets pushed into taking hostile actions against Elia and Lyanna by [[spoiler: attacking Starfall]] out of lust for [[spoiler: Jon Connington]].
* Interestingly, in ''Fanfic/PurpleDays'', Joff, through brutal CharacterDevelopment and a relentless GroundhogDayLoop, shapes up into a decent person, and later, into a wonderful king. ''However'', this has the side effect of dooming another person - Daenerys Targaryen. [[PointOfDivergence Since Joff now respects Ser Barristan]], he sees no problem in keeping the faithful knight by his side; without Ser Barristan to journey to Essos and save Daenerys from the manticore's attack, the poison rots her arm and twists her mind, and by the time she makes it to Westeros, she's turned into the second coming of her father, with the added threat of her dragons. Even when this doesn't happen, as far as Joff can tell, ''every'' time Daenerys makes it to Westeros and installs herself as queen, she goes hopelessly mad with power. While Joff would have liked to save her along with everyone else, the sad truth is that not only can he politically not afford to, he simply hasn't interacted with her enough across the loops to get a decent enough feel of what makes her tick to convince her to go along with his carefully-constructed plans. Feeling all the while like a hypocrite, and lamenting the circumstances that have turned her into a villain in his tale, Joff reluctantly signs on an assassination mission against her.

[[AC:''Franchise/StarWars'']]
* "[[https://archiveofourown.org/series/1066346 Revenge of the (kinder, gentler) Sith]]" has a complex version of this when Palpatine chooses Padme as another of his apprentices years before the blockade of Naboo. While Padme is a Sith and therefore has no issues killing people in a manner that her canon counterpart would have found disturbing, she also has enough compassion that she thinks fondly of key Jedi such as Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi for their efforts to protect her planet, and when she takes Anakin as her apprentice the main reason the two become lovers when he's only a teenager and she's an adult is that she refuses to deny her needs but also chooses not to hurt Anakin by having a sexual relationship with someone else.

* In the original series, Doctor [=MacKenzie=] was just fixated on his own theories and hastily diagnosed Daniel with schizophrenia in canon, making him a bad doctor but not necessarily a bad ''person''. By contrast, in the ''Fanfic/WhatYouAlreadyKnow'' series the psychiatrist is clearly portrayed as an agent of Robert Kinsey, attempting to support Kinsey’s agenda to get Daniel removed from the program by conducting a ‘psychiatric evaluation’ focused entirely on presenting Daniel as psychologically unstable with a god complex where another psychiatrist attended the same interview and diagnosed Daniel as being perfectly sound mentally.

* In canon, Alexandrite is the heroic {{fusion|Dance}} of Amethyst, Pearl, and Garnet. In the ''No one said...'' [=AU=], [[AdaptationNameChange Alexandra]] is a schoolyard bully who insults everyone around her. Case in point, while in canon she was the good guy and Malachite was the antagonist, here it's the other way around.
* While how heroic Blue Diamond is in canon is ambiguous, in ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/8654068/chapters/19846153 Nobody Loves You The Way I Do]]'', she is driven mad with grief and abused her adoptive daughter.
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/8491420 We Are The Chatroom Gems]]'', being a human [=AU=] has a few examples:
** We don't see much of Yellow Pearl in canon, but she came off as little more than Yellow Diamond's secretary, and only interacted with Peridot once. [[AdaptationNameChange Limone]] here is Yella's BrattyTeenageDaughter who picks on Peridot.
** Played with regarding [[AdaptationNameChange Yella]]. While the HighSchoolAU meant that she can't try to destroy a planet out of spite, [[HateSink she isn't at all given redeeming qualities like Yellow Diamond]], abusing her adoptive daughter [[spoiler:Peridot]] and ranting about how Lapis' bisexual pride shirt is [[HeteronormativeCrusader "unholy"]].
* ''[[Fanfic/WeCanBeHeroesStevenUniverse We Can Be Heroes]]'':
** Peridot is already a Crystal Gem by the time the story begins and went through the same character arc that she did in canon. But in this fic, Peridot is said to have tortured Lapis for information about the Earth back when she was working for Homeworld, while as far as we know she merely interrogated her in the show itself. Because of this Lapis refuses to forgive or reason with the incredibly remorseful Peridot, and it kickstarts her journey into outer space.
** The Diamond Authority were already genocidal conquerors in the show, but they officially never destroyed planets with sentient life on them and made their first contact with intelligent lifeforms by way of the humans on Earth. In this fic, the Diamond Authority absolutely have wiped out entire sentient species of organic aliens, and war stories related by Biz tell of Homeworld soldiers personally occupying organic cities and trying to slaughter their inhabitants during the Homeworld/Nova Veluti war.

* While [[spoiler:Kamek]] has always been a villain, he wouldn't even ''think'' of murdering Bowser, let alone endangering entire worlds for a power boost like he does in ''Fanfic/LarrysAdventure''.
* ''Fanfic/TheSeaShadow'' contains two examples.
** In canon, Beldam's abuse of Vivian and Marilyn was limited to insults. Here, she is physically abusive to Marilyn, even using her ice magic to make the blows hurt more [[spoiler:and was the one responsible for Vivian's brutal beating at the beginning of the story, with the heavy implication she was attempting a SiblingMurder. Needless to say, she does ''not'' make her canon HeelFaceTurn.]]
** It's revealed that the remaining X-Nauts did not make their canonical HeelFaceTurn.

[[AC:''Franchise/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles'']]
* ''Fanfic/TheChroniclesOfKaraiGettingHerShitTogether'': On-top of [[AbusiveParent the kind of abuse you would expect from someone like the Shredder]], Shredder [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil uses rape as a method of punishment for Karai]]. Not only that but it is confirmed that he has regularly purchased underaged girls from human traffickers for this very purpose.
* ''Fanfic/ShardsOfAMemory'':
** This version of Shredder conspires to kill Tang Shen because he sees her not picking him and then faking her death when he killed Yoshi as a "double humiliation". While canon!Shredder's motivation (as [[InsaneTrollLogic twisted and flawed]] as they were) could be seen as somewhat sympathetic -- avenging the death of a woman he loved by killing the man he thought was responsible -- this version of Shredder doesn't even have that. This Shredder's entire ''modus operandi'' is [[{{Pride}} based on a wounded ego]].
** While Karai in canon was DarkActionGirl willing to cross lines that the turtles would not, she was portrayed more as an AntiVillain who was still less willing to involve innocent civilians. This version of Karai seems to be less mentally stable, going to great, torturous lengths to torment Shard, even forcing her into a SadisticChoice to let April die of poisoning if she wanted her back, legitimately enraged when Shard escapes with April to treat her.
* While the Shredder of the 2012 series might be a scumbag compared to other versions, ''Fanfic/TurtleKittens'' makes him a thousand times worse by drowning Miwa in a river for being Yoshi's daughter, then chaining up Tang Shen and [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil raping her]] under the belief that killing her husband makes her his by right and that she will grow to love him ''eventually''. When she escapes, he convinces her family that he was her husband so that she could not rely on them for help.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends'']]
* ''Fanfic/SodorTheTrueStories'':
** In canon, George is merely a troublemaker. The adaptation of "Bye, George!", meanwhile, depicts him causing [[spoiler:the worst rail disaster in Sudrian history, and revelling in it. He gets executed for his troubles.]]
** Diesel is depicted in the "Duck and the Diesel Engine" trilogy as making up lies about the steam engines in order to get them sent away to sheds on the mainland where they would certainly be scrapped. And when he was found out, he fully intended to [[spoiler: run over and kill The Fat Controller and make it look like an accident so a more "progressive" controller could take over, before the police sting sprang the trap.]]
** The BR controllers. The Rev. W. Awdry said in the foreword for ''Stepney The Bluebell Engine'' that BR controllers are not cruel, and in fact are supportive of the preservation movement. One of the exposition chapters, however, revealed that this was a big, fat lie, as Awdry noticed the illustration Peter and Gunvor Edwards had made of two Sentient steam locomotives looking down in fear at a man with a blowtorch, and knew it wasn't BlackComedy. The subsequent "Awdry Leaks" brought the Steam Holocaust to public attention. The controllers ''are'' cruel, [[InsaneTrollLogic thinking that the very presence of steam locomotives automatically makes Britain a communist nation]], and both Parliament ''AND'' the United Nations willingly conspire to scrap Sentient steam locomotives alive for their essence (Spectra), which can be refined into an efficient fuel source. The United States acts the same way, and after the government orders a massive crackdown in 1968, PM Harold Wilson even considers going to war with the United States over it, only to exercise restraint due to the fact such a war would mean an automatic Soviet victory in the Cold War.
** D261 was, in canon, merely a smug diesel who got his comeuppance. His ''S:TTS'' counterpart Matthew, meanwhile, developed a full-on GodComplex by the time Tim and Chloe were transferred to Sodor.

[[AC:''Franchise/{{Tintin}}'']]
* ''Fanfic/WingsOfTheFallen'': While Rastapopoulos in canon was certainly not a good person, he wasn't a demon who was out to destroy the world.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'']]
* ''Fanfic/ABFGsWorldTour'': Sierra's StalkerWithACrush attitude towards Cody is played up much more darkly, with her acting EntitledToHaveYou towards him. This also leads to her being the main one to hold a grudge against Gwen instead of Courtney, after finding out she and Cody kissed after London.
* ''Fanfic/CandyForYourThoughts'':
** Alejandro grows increasingly amoral, arrogant, and backstabbing as the story goes on, to the point where in the climax he tells Duncan he is AboveGoodAndEvil while attempting to ''murder'' him (even brushing off a quick moment of remorse he feels when he slashes Duncan's chest and causes him to bleed). Likewise, Heather has none of her CharacterDevelopment in canon and is reduced to simply being Alejandro's DarkMistress.
** Duncan and Gwen start off as much less pleasant than they were in canon due to their extreme bitterness towards Courtney and Cody's budding romance, with both constantly claiming NeverMyFault when the rest of the cast gets mad at them for their affair behind Courtney's back (Gwen even tries to deflect criticism by saying everyone should be mad at her friend Bridgette instead for falling for Alejandro early in ''World Tour''). However, CharacterDevelopment helps both of them get better.
* In ''Fanfic/ACodetteWorldTour'', Alejandro is still the ruthless and manipulative BigBad, but he grows increasingly eviler than he was in canon as the story goes on. After he fails to eliminate Bridgette in the Yukon, he becomes more and more hateful of her (whereas in canon, he was merely indifferent to her). This culminates in him staging an AttemptedRape on her just so he can beat Cody to the final two, and then suffering a VillainousBreakdown and trying to kill Cody, Bridgette, and Geoff during the finale.
* ''Fanfic/DespairIsland''
** [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. While Justin's much more cunning in this adaptation, he's ultimately just trying to survive a DeadlyGame, to the point he opts to stop trying to fix eliminations [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone once he realizes he's gone too far.]]
** Izzy's much more of a psychopath in this version, to the point she's excited to see people die.
** Unsurprisingly, Chris [=McLean=] is considerably more evil here than he is in canon, as he actively kills his contestants for fun and ratings.
** [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Chef Hatchet's being forced to help kill the campers against his own will, just in the hopes of receiving a lighter sentence.
** Beverly "B" is much more cunning and malicious in this version, adopting the role of the main villainous contestant that Scott plays in canon. While still acting as TheLeader and TheSmartGuy to his team, he detaches himself from his fellow competitors and views them as steps in his path to victory.
** Like in canon, Dakota joined ''Total Drama'' for the fame, but in this version, she joins the competition despite it being a DeadlyGame. Even after surviving thanks to her father paying for her survival, Dakota rejoins the game later on for "more screentime". Upon returning, she engineers Mike's elimination (which fails thanks to Manitoba Smith finding a Life Idol) just because she finds the act of doing so dastardly enough to improve her screentime and later eliminates Anne Maria because she finds a finale between Jo and B more interesting.
** [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. While Sam joins B and Scott in an alliance that leads to the executions of Lightning and Zoey, he only does so to survive a DeadlyGame and ultimately regrets his role in engineering the latter's execution, to the point of warning the others about Scott's deviousness before being executed himself.
* In canon, Chris [=McLean=] is certainly sleazy and a {{Jerkass}}, but in the ''Fanfic/{{Haunted}}'' series, he's a sexual predator who preyed on several of his underaged female contestants.
* ''Fanfic/PredatorAndPrey'': In canon, Alejandro was merely a charmer who only flirted with Bridgette to manipulate her. Here, he's a depraved rapist and sexual predator with an insatiable lust for Bridgette and is intent on repeatedly sexually assaulting and abusing her for his own pleasure.
* ''Fanfic/RandomDramaSeries'': [[spoiler: Katie]] slowly becomes much more antagonistic as the season progresses, to the point where she becomes the main antagonist.
* ''Fanfic/TotalDramaAllStarsRemake'': Mal. In canon, despite being evil, all he really did was laugh and destroy stuff. Here, he's more of a psychotic monster. He starts a fire that burns 3 of the contestants' belongings, brutally attacks Alejandro to the point that he's disqualified from the contest because of the beatdown, kills a family of animals by throwing them into a campfire, and many more.
* ''Fanfic/TotalDramaRedemption'':
** Heather goes from being merely power-hungry and manipulative to being outright cruel and amoral. For example, she engineers Cody's elimination by planting berries in his pants pocket so that he will be brutally mauled by a bear. When Lindsay reveals this to everyone, Heather shows no remorse for the fact that Cody was left in a body cast and wheelchair by her actions. And unlike in canon, she never improves as a person in the later seasons.
** Alejandro is even worse. In canon, he was simply just incredibly self-centered. Here, he's a sadistic nihilist who believes that MightMakesRight and that he is AboveGoodAndEvil, and at several points attempts to brutally injure or even kill Noah for little reason.
** Trent, of all people, gets this. After breaking up with Gwen in ''Action'', he goes completely off the deep end when she hooks up with Noah and never reverts to his original NiceGuy personality in ''World Tour''. He repeatedly threatens to kill and injure Noah and even sides with Alejandro for the sole purpose of taking Noah down.
* ''Fanfic/TotalDramaUnderdogs'': [[spoiler:Duncan]] goes from a nuanced AntiHero who had some [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold kind]] [[PetTheDog moments]] to an utter {{Jerkass}} who [[spoiler:goes on to become the BigBad of the story]].
* ''Fanfic/UnbreakableRedSilkenThread'': In [[WesternAnimation/TotalDrama the show]], Heather was said to have a very close relationship with her mother, here she's an {{Abusive Parent|s}}.

[[AC:''Franchise/TouhouProject'']]
* ''Fanfic/ImperfectMetamorphosis'' takes Yuuka Kazami (a powerful and dangerous individual who nonetheless mostly leaves people alone) and turns her into TheDreaded who makes ''every'' character [[OhCrap crap their pants]] whenever she's mentioned, and more than lives up to her reputation by being [[spoiler:a full-blown [[EldritchAbomination Outer God]]]].
* Wriggle is just a run-of-the-mill insect youkai and, while still dangerous, she usually has no malicious intentions against humans and will attack only if provoked. In the fanfic ''[[http://www.touhou-project.com/forest/res/26223.html No Such Thing as Fairy Tales]]'', [[spoiler:Wriggle is a [[Tabletop/ChangelingTheLost fae]], who spirits away humans and tortures and rapes them for no other reason because she can]].
* ''Fanfic/TouhouIbunshu'' does this to almost ''half'' of the cast. Rumia, Mystia, and Remilia are {{Creepy Child}}ren that [[ToServeMan eat people]], Cirno, Wriggle, and Hina are sadists that try to kill people for no reason, Sakuya is a SerialKiller and [[spoiler:''succeeds'' in killing the humans]], and Yukari and Mokou both [[spoiler:try to obliterate Gensokyo]]. Strangely, the ones that get some CharacterDevelopment end up being more sympathetic than the originals (most of whom are petty violent jerks), even if they are worse people overall.

[[AC:''Franchise/TolkiensLegendarium'']]
* ''[[Fanfic/TheHeartTrilogy Heart of Fire]]'': The Company of Thorin are a downplayed AntiHero example, in that they're still faithful to their movie characterizations, but their {{greed}}y and [[WasItReallyWorthIt petty]] motivations for reclaiming Erebor and their disregard for the lives of Lake-Town's people aren't justified. Thorin garners [[TookALevelInJerkass a few extra jerkass points]] beyond canon during his SanitySlippage. His {{Fatal Flaw}}s are highlighted, showcasing how due to his pride and greed (which he [[{{Hypocrite}} refuses to acknowledge]], unlike the somewhat [[CardCarryingVillain knowingly wicked]] Smaug), he's not that different from Smaug in one of the worst possible ways.

[[AC:''Literature/TheTwilightSaga'']]
* ''Fanfic/BonneFoi'' opens with Edward having developed a reputation on Bella’s college campus as a serial killer, and he spends the first few chapters only planning to keep her around as essentially a sex object whose thoughts don’t bother him while they’re having sex before he finds himself becoming more genuinely interested in her as a person.
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5347858/1/A-Different-Kind-of-Moon A Different Kind of Moon]]'', after Mike Newton is turned by Victoria as part of her campaign against Bella he revels in his new power to the extent that he participates in Victoria’s plans to [[spoiler:torture Angela and use her as a hostage to draw Bella out]]. Granted, allowances can be made for the circumstances of his turning, but [[spoiler:when Bella tries to convince him to give animal blood a try, Mike’s continued glee with his new perceived superiority forces Bella to kill him]].
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5654605/1/Mistaken-Trust Mistaken Trust]]'', Jacob Black actually rapes Bella and later threatens her to try and get another chance while talking about how Bella 'wanted' it; after [[spoiler:a brief 'alliance' with Tanya of the Denalis to try and break Edward and Bella up, Jacob finally kills himself when he realises that he's been caught]].

[[AC:Film/XMenFilmSeries]]
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2979669/1/The-Fires-of-Resurrection The Fires of Resurrection]]'' features a film version of Forge as a member of the Hellfire Club, when he's an ally of the X-Men in most continuities (although he is a member of the Brotherhood in the Ultimate Universe).

[[AC:''Franchise/YuGiOh'']]
* Rio in ''Fanfic/TheIceQueenCometh''. Her [[RoleSwapAU swapping story roles]] with her brother caused her to be a lot angrier and colder than in canon, though she generally stays in the realm of darker hero than villain.
* In ''Fanfic/ZeroHourARCV'', '''''Ray Akaba''''' enters an UnholyMatrimony with Zarc instead of opposing him in canon, making her and the four Bracelet Girls an ApocalypseMaiden like Zarc and the four Dragon Boys.
** Furthermore, Yuzu and her counterparts will serve as the LadyMacbeth to their respective Dragon Boys along with those who're close to them, with Shun Kurosaki being the first known example.

[[AC:Unsorted]]
* ''Fanfic/DirtySympathy'' does this to several characters: Daryan Cresend ([[spoiler:already a DirtyCop]]) into committing DomesticAbuse and abuses Klavier and constantly makes death threats. Kristoph Gavin ([[spoiler: an AmoralAttorney and poisoner]]) into a BadBoss who traps Apollo into AllTakeAndNoGive relationship and abuses him because Apollo has no one else to turn to. Machi's portrayal as an [[ChildrenAreInnocent innocent child]], albeit an accomplice to drug smuggling, is done away with, presenting him as [[FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon angelic-looking, disturbed]] smuggler [[spoiler: and he is actually guilty of killing [=LeTouse=]]]. Lamiroir is a cold-blooded MamaBear, who thought nothing of framing someone and threatening someone with death to protect Machi. And the story's leads, Klavier and Apollo become [[VillainProtagonist Villain Protagonists]] (albeit sympathetic ones).
* ''Fanfic/LeagueOfExtraordinaryGentlemenTempestRewrite'':
** The Antichrist is now ComicStrip/DennisTheMenaceUK, corrupted by [[Literature/TheElricSaga Stormbringer]]
** Emma discovers that Franchise/JamesBond had good reason to kill her loved ones:
*** Her father was a communist about to defect to the Soviet Union with his technology
*** Her uncle [[Literature/BulldogDrummond Hugo]] put RevengeBeforeReason and was willing to kill Emma for it
*** Her [[Series/TheAvengers1960s Cliff House friends]] had converted to the [[Franchise/CthulhuMythos Esoteric Order of Dagon]] and commited suicide when the [[Film/MissionImpossibleFilmSeries IMF]] caught up with them.
* In ''[[Fanfic/ImHereToHelp I'm Here to Help]]'', the senshi of the future, as well as Neo-Queen Serenity, are portrayed as considerably more villainous than their canon counterparts. While we don't see much of them, it's established that they are essentially the BigGood of the future, to the point where they were ''willingly'' asked to rule the now-united Earth. In the fanfiction though, their adoration comes from Neo-Queen Serenity "purifying" all negative emotions out of them, allegedly turning them into placid zombies. While Emerald is something of an UnreliableNarrator due to being insane, one segment told from the point of view of the future Jupiter and Mars has them discuss how they attacked/killed several children who Emerald had helped with one of his plans, dismissing the whole thing as the children having made their own choices in the matter. Needless to say, the canon senshi would ''never'' willingly harm children, whether or not they were helping a villain.
* ''Fanfic/RosarioVampireBrightestDarkness'':
** In canon, Tsukune's ghoul form was largely depicted as an instinctive, mindless [[TheBerserker Berserker]]. Here, it's shown as a full-fledged SuperpoweredEvilSide with its own identity and personality.
** Though Hokuto was always an antagonist in the manga, he was more of a WildCard to the extent that he even helped Tsukune and Moka stop his own plan. Here, he's a straight-up no-gray-area villain and a blatant StrawNihilist who openly expresses the view that life itself is nothing but a meaningless plague that must be wiped out.
** The fic does away with the sympathetic backstory that Alucard had in canon completely. In the original manga, Alucard was originally supportive of human/monster co-existence but turned evil after humans invaded the country he founded for exactly that and killed most of his loved ones. Here, Alucard began as an arrogant, overly powerful vampire who decided to simply destroy all life, human and monster alike, out of sheer [[StrawNihilist nihilism]], and eventually devolved into nothing but a mindless beast.
* Ms. Maia from ''Fanfic/TwilightValley''. In ''WesternAnimation/TheLandBeforeTimeVITheSecretOfSaurusRock'', she is simply an overprotective mother that tossed out Ducky when ''Ducky'' was the one who invaded her nest in the first place. In the fanfic, Ms. Maia is portrayed as a traitor who attempts to ''murder'' Ducky.
* Magolor in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10389287/1/Kirby-Right-Back-At-Ya-Season-2 Kirby: Right Back At Ya! Season 2]]''. In ''VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamLand'', he was a kindly alien that gave Kirby advice as he tried to repair his ship. Here, he's effectively an Expy of Customer Service from the original show, being the one who sends King Dedede his new monsters. [[spoiler:It's downplayed compared to most examples, as Magolor was already the BigBad of his own game, but he kept it hidden until the final level and it's implied that he wasn't fully willing, whereas this Magolor is known to be a villain from the first chapter. He also later does a HeelFaceTurn in the games while it's clear that this version will get nothing of the sort.]]
* The ''Manga/LoveHina'' fics ''Fanfic/AnAlternateKeitaroUrashima'' and ''Fanfic/ForHisOwnSake'', both written by the same author, make Granny Hina and the Hinata girls ''far'' more malicious and bitchy than they're depicted in canon.
** It can be debatable if this count as this trope because a lot of things they do in both fanfics are thing they could have done in the manga. The only difference is the fact it's no longer PlayedForLaughs.
* In ''Fanfic/TheStalkingZukoSeries'', [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Arnook]], a wise and benevolent leader who made the mistake of choosing a jerk like Hahn as his daughter Yue's husband, is portrayed as having a severe case of MoralMyopia, grieving over his daughter while rejoicing when Fire Nation soldiers die. He also doesn't care much for the Southern Water Tribe, as he didn't come to their help when the Fire Nation raided them, and when Hakoda or Sokka try to contradict him, he tells them that Hakoda's loss of his wife is ''less painful'' than his losing Yue.
* ''Fanfic/{{Fade}}'': While how heroic he is in canon is up to interpretation, L in this story is a TautologicalTemplar who will go to any lengths to save his life and protect "Justice" from Kira, all the while refusing to acknowledge that this path has led to ''him'' becoming Kira.
* In the ''Series/TheTudors'' fandom, the fanfiction is usually more based on the historical events but some aspects of the show are used, a popular one continuing the show's portrayal as William Brereton being a madman assassin who wants to kill Anne Boleyn for being a "witch".
* PlayedForLaughs in ''If VideoGame/HalfLife [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QEE7_Hwi7mQ was written by a bot]]'', where Gordon Freeman is portrayed along these lines, blaming the military for the Resonance Cascade, going on a murderous rampage toward Black Mesa's personnel (with the narrative saying he does it because he "[[InsaneTrollLogic finds people to be ridiculous]]"), and going to Xen specifically because there weren't any more aliens he could kill.
* In ''Literature/SoundEuphonium'', Taki is a SternTeacher but is overall not that cruel of a person (especially in [[AdaptationalNiceGuy the anime]]). In the fanfic ''Fanfic/AmbitiousLove'' he is Reina's BitchInSheepsClothing [[DomesticAbuse abusive]] husband. He regularly beats her, but always makes up an excuse for the cops. It's so bad that Reina has tried to [[DrivenToSuicide kill herself]] several times. After Reina tries to leave him for Kumiko, he [[spoiler:[[MakeItLookLikeAnAccident fakes a suicide attempt]] to get her put in a ward]]. After that fails, he [[spoiler:outright kidnaps her]] and [[spoiler:attempts to murder her]], all while calling the police and pretending that Reina was attacking ''him''.
* Discussed in the ''Scooby Doo'' fic ''Fanfic/OldMeetsNew''. The Coolsville Mystery Inc know Scrappy as a well-meaning puppy who simply got bored of Scooby and went to live with his other uncle Yabba-Doo. Crystal Cove's Velma [[NoodleIncident won't talk about Scrappy]] but says he did some horrible things that shouldn't be discussed.
* In ''Fanfic/TheResurrectionOfRose'', [[Film/DoctorSleep Rose the Hat]] sheds her love for her fellow True Knots showing indifference at experimenting on them, depriving them of steam, and outright murdering a score of them for the slightest offense. She becomes obsessed with getting revenge on Abra Stone, so much so, she ''flips'' upon discovering the Multiverse deciding to wipe it all out because she couldn't bear to ''live'' in a universe where Abra was alive.
* In the upcoming ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' FanFilm, ''[[https://www.miitoons.com/sonic-villains/ Sonic Villains]]'', Sara from ''Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie'' is shown to be one of the villains! When asked about this, [[https://www.miitoons.com/sonic-villains/villains-by-universe/sara-the-catgirl/ her profile]] suggests she became a villain for a surprising reason.
* Anu is supposed to be the BigGood in the ''VideoGame/{{Diablo}}'' universe. But, in the [[https://videogameshrines.weebly.com/introduction3.html Blizzard shrines]] of the [[https://videogameshrines.weebly.com/ Video Game Shrines]], we eventually find that Anu is actually [[BigBad the exact opposite]]; furthermore, his true name is [[spoiler: Anus]].
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13492297/1/Goku-the-Gamer-Rewrite Goku the Gamer (Rewrite)]]'': In [[Manga/DragonBall canon]], Oolong was a pervert who kidnapped girls but didn't actually do anything to them and let the villagers take them back since none of the girls acted like the submissive housewife he wanted. Here, he's a demon who slowly tortures people to death for kicks. When Goku and Bulma meet him, he's taken dozens of people prisoner with only half still alive, albeit horrifically injured and malnourished.
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9306030/1/The-Witch-of-Oz The Witch of Oz]]'', a genderbend fanfic of ''Literature/TheWonderfulWizardOfOz'', [[spoiler: the titular character Ozia is secretly evil, and lied to everyone about [[AdaptationalHeroism Elphias]] being a Wicked Wizard. Eventually, the citizens of Oz learn the truth.]]
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10105646/1/She-s-Mine She's Mine]]'' ([=NSFW=]), [[Literature/TheIrregularAtMagicHighSchool Miyuki]] harbors secret plots to conquer the world, [[{{Yandere}} supposedly for Tatsuya's sake]]. While she was very willing to murder people in canon, the fic exaggerated that trait.
* ''Webcomic/CoolAndNewWebComic'': %%note: all the typos in character names are intentional
** John Egbert is the friendly and well-meaning hero of ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}''. Jhon Ebgret, on the other hand, is an UnsexySadist. The first act alone involves him throwing a pickaxe at Swet Bro (causing a chain of events that cause Hecka Jef to become obsessed with vengeance), chopping off his father's hand to get the mail, and forcing Dabe [[NakedPeopleAreFunny to take off his clothes as a punishment]].
** In canon, Jack Noir is probably the most heroic of Spades Slick's counterparts (which isn't saying much because he's mostly a NominalHero). In this comic, Spdaes Sleck is extremely AxCrazy. One of the first things he does is [[GenuineHumanHide eviscerate Itchy and wear his flayed skin]].
** [[spoiler:Rose Lalonde, while not exactly a paragon of purity, is generally a heroic character in ''Homestuck''. In ''cool and new web comic'', everyone's status as a corrupted character slowly drives her to the brink, her possible breaking point being when she discovers that [[TomatoInTheMirror she was corrupted from birth.]] From there, she dehumanizes the corrupted characters and regards herself as the OnlySaneMan, culminating in a battle between Hecka's forces and her forces, where she kills Swet Momi and maims Hecka badly by blowing off his arm and stabbing his eye out.]]
