This doesn't count since Mia apologized to Lily for standing her up.

** The times that Lily is particularly mean to Mia do actually have some validity to them. Firstly, Mia was keeping her identity from her, and Lily was worried about her best friend hiding things and seemingly coming up with excuses to spend less time with her. Secondly, she has every reason to be annoyed when Mia forgets to come on her cable show, and she's left humiliated on the air.

* ValuesDissonance: Towards the end of the second act, Mia is publicly sexually assaulted twice(once by Josh forcing an unwanted kiss on her, and once by paparazzi photographing her in a state of undress both without her consent and while she was underage) and Clarice’s response is to chew her out for it. While Joe does gently chide Clarice for being too harsh, the fact that she shows no compassion towards Mia after something so traumatic and that her first instinct was to victim-blameby telling Mia that her being assaulted embarrassed the family and suggesting that the assaults only occurred because of Mia’s lack of common sense did not age well.

* OneTruePairing: While there's debate over who Mia should have ended up with, almost every fan of the films ship Clarisse and Joe together, due to their well developed ShipTease and chemistry.

* AcceptableTargets: Joisey in Royal Wedding, when Mia has quite a few comments on Cranston, New Jersey after .

* UnnecessaryMakeover: The HollywoodHomely Mia has to get a makeover because she has glasses and strike: a ponytail curly hair. On the other hand, she's clearly unhappy with her appearance until her makeover, and the makeover itself doesn't make her life easier -- the popular kids actually mock her for it at first. And bear in mind, her makeover was more suited for a public figure than a high school student. It also doesn't help that, as Kevin Murphy put it in A Year at the Movies, the primary result is that she's "de-ethnicized," with every trace of Jewish heritage covered up – although neither Mia nor Anne Hathaway are Jewish, the negative portrayal of her frizzy hair and glasses that emphasize her nose size definitely has some UnfortunateImplications.
