* VillainDecay: Though not for lack of trying and despite being each an AntiVillain, Amos Slade and Chief were never quite as menacing in the midquel as they were in the first movie, regulated as each a LaughablyEvil IneffectualSympatheticVillain and the midquel's rough equivalent of being each a SitcomArchNemesis for Widow Tweed and Tod. This can be justified as the midquel takes place ''before'' the movie's TimeSkip to Tod's and Copper's adulthood stage, creating the justifiable reason that Slade -- and to a lesser extent Chief, just before his CareerEndingInjury accidentally caused by Tod -- hasn't reached the same level of threat as neither of them have any reason to go that far yet.

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: As... ''misplaced'' as the midquel might be, [[GoKartingWithBowser it does have a very beautiful, subtle moment between Amos Slade and Widow Tweed. With Tod and Copper having run off to the fair, the two comb the forest in the middle of the night, looking for their respective pets. They meet over a fence and, after a bout of their usual bickering, Tweed says she'll keep an eye out for Copper. And despite his seething hatred of Tod,]] [[PetTheDog Slade promises to do the same]] for "that fox of yours".

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Given the somewhat ambiguous BittersweetEnding of the first, along with the unadapted side plot of Tod gaining offspring in the book (though it ends badly) a proper sequel had potential. Instead, we get an Interquel about [[BizarroEpisode Copper joining a band of singing dogs]]. One could argue even that plot could have been used more vividly if for a separate franchise instead of [[ForegoneConclusion a build up to one of the darkest and most tragic Disney films ever made]]. It's not like Disney doesn't have [[WesternAnimation/OliverAndCompany other]] [[WesternAnimation/LadyAndTheTramp franchises]] with singing dogs after all.
