* CommonKnowledge: In discussions about ''VideoGame/EarthBound1994'', ''Space Funeral'' is commonly cited as a game inspired by ''Earthbound''. However, thecatamites has never cited ''Earthbound'' as an influence. In addition, he says the point of the game is how, in his opinion, JRPGs need to stop trying to recapture the glory of older JRPGs and experiment more. So, it won't make sense for ''Earthbound'' to be an inspiration for the game.

Widget Series has been renamed to Quirky Work as per TRS (clearing because of a lack of context).

* ViewerGenderConfusion: [[spoiler:Moon is a female, but for most of her scenes, she appears as a red-blue monster who can shapeshift into other forms, most of which resemble male characters seen throughout the game. Flavor text from one Mystery effect reveals that Moon is female, but other than that, there is no real way to figure out Moon's gender. It is only when the protagonists defeat her and undo her alteration of the City of Forms does she revert back into her [[ThisWasHisTrueForm true form]], which resembles a stock female UsefulNotes/RPGMaker sprite.]]
* WidgetSeries: While the game itself is rather [[{{Surrealism}} surreal]], it makes much more sense if one is familiar with RPG Maker games or the Eastern RPG genre as the game is mainly a satire of the aforementioned.

** Earth Birth continues this trend by also drawing from a wide range of music. To name a few of the credited artists, we have the alternative rock band Music/CageTheElephant ("Ain't No Rest for the Wicked"), accomplished ambient producer Music/BrianEno with Music/TalkingHeads front man David Byrne ("The Jezebel Spirit"), the experimental rock musician Music/FrankZappa ("The Deathless Horsie"), the Russian psytrance DJ Kindzadza ("Ra," "Build Up"), and a variety of legendary Main/{{Industrial}} projects (Music/ThrobbingGristle, Music/NurseWithWound, Music/{{Coil}}, and Music/SkinnyPuppy all make appearances).
* BrokenBase: Toward the {{fan sequel}}s, especially the fourth one. They are either loved, bashed for being [[ItsTheSameNowItSucks too much like the original]], or a mixture of both.

* GeniusBonus: It seems nonsensical at first, but it also seems to have elements of Platonic Philosophy right at the heart of it. The City Of Forms is totally based on Plato's idea of The Forms, the perfect ideals that make up the true nature of reality. In real life, Forms can only be percieved through reasoning, but it seems that The City of Forms is actually made of Forms, which would imply that this city is, in fact, made of pure perfection. Therefore, everything else in the world is imperfect, and falls short in comparison.

** Super Space Funeral 4 Deluxe Blood Red Version & Bubsy has a Sega Genesis style soundtrack and it's groovy as hell.

** Some fans feel that the fourth one, with it's polished visuals, original soundtrack, the introduction of Bubsy, and shift in atmosphere, is disconnected enough from what Space Funeral originally was that it may as well just be an unrelated RPG-maker game.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: The fan sequel [[http://gamejolt.com/games/super-space-funeral-4-deluxe-blood-red-version-bubsy/105850 "Super Space Funeral IV: Blood Red Edition & Bubsy"]] already has one of these in the form of "Modern Bubsy." A reimagining of the infamous 90s mascot character by the sequel's creator "Squirrely Jack," this version of Bubsy is a transsexual prostitute living in misery. The character proved so popular with fans of Jack's art and those anticipating the fan sequel that Jack herself began drawing Modern Bubsy more on her art pages, and created a Website/{{Tumblr}} [[http://sulkysadbobcat.tumblr.com/ blog dedicated to the character]] (warning: occasionally NSFW content).
