Tsuji Ricardsen. His solution to being trapped in the middle of an active minefield? Sprint through it and run fast enough to outrun all of the explosions! The same scene also implies his mother, Rosalind, may have CrazyAwesome, too.

* MagnificentBastard: Medusa. She cheats certain death yet again by splitting her soul and taking over another person’s body, forms an alliance with her sister Shaula to attack Death City, reenlists Eruka and the others, and creates the ultimate Cursing Magic spell. She doesn’t immediately reveal herself, instead luring Maka and company to Cobra Island where she has them all to herself by using a fake mission involving Atlas to disguise the real danger. To stave off suspicion, she requests other innocent students who don’t even know she exists to go with them. With each passing moment spent on Cobra Island, Medusa uses Ouroboros to take away a personality trait or combat ability, making them easy prey for her. The kids don’t realize she’s been playing them all for fools until it’s too late. It says something when it requires an outside inference for the heroes to avoid utter defeat.

Added DiffLines:

* AssPull: In Act 2 Chapter 5, it is revealed Ponera gave Killbell a notebook full of info on everyone important in Paraponera because he's forgetful, which Maka takes after she defeats him. Possibilities aside, the notebook seems to have been clumsily added in so the heroes wouldn't be going around in circles while Paraponera acts unopposed.

Added DiffLines:

* SignatureScene: Each arc contains one or more.
** Introduction Arc: The heartwarming scene with Maka, Soul, Caius, and Claudia before going on to perform the story's first Joint Resonance.
** Joint Resonance Training Arc: The other Joint Resonances.
** Cobra Island Arc: The Kumbaya Circle, the scenes with the shadows, and .
** Chicago Gang: Tsuji vs. Walena, the battle against Project Omega's second form, and Maka vs. Cancer.

** Cancer likely crossed it in the past with the Vladingham Family Massacre. She commits genocide of the family solely out of Revenge and racism.

to:

** In-universe, Medusa crossed this long time ago and is old news. But for the Original Characters, they're made aware of her true evilness when she brags to them, through Krysa, she will make them suffer through her rigged Deadly Games and hopes the Academy will collapse on itself.

Finally, it is revealed she brainwashed Krysa and used outlawed magic on Atlas to enhance her subterfuge, uncaring of the details or consequences. * AuthorsSavingThrow: Following a massive editing and restructuring completed on 4/6/2015, the first 24 chapters of the story experience a general improvement in quality compared to befored. Other than generals fixes in grammar and diction to make things less clunky and awkward, scenes and lines are also moved around or changed for better flow and to underline plot relevance (e.g. the lecture about Demon Tools went from a waste of words to establishing continuity and revealing that Kid has BREW with him). Dates are made easier to follow, and treatment of characters is addressed (e.g. Caius is less Wangsty thanks to the removal of offending moments). This includes focusing on Cancer and other villains like Soriano and Kujira/Neptune to establish their characters earlier on.

* Squick:
** An in-universe example. An ogre is devouring cow with enough noise to disgust Caius and Claudia. Then, it proceeds to slurp something with a wet and messy sound. The two are appropriately grossed out.
** The Anria, in the rare chances that open their mouth slowly enough to let it happen, leak out black miasma. One of them pins Tsuji to the ground and tries to bite him, but he stops it with his bow. Said miasma pours onto Marcellus's weapon form.
-->Marcellus: Oh, this is so unsanitary! Do something already!

* AuthorsSavingThrow: On 4/6/2015, the author announced he had finished editing, proofreading, and restructuring the first 24 chapters of the story. Despite a few rough patches, his efforts were a general improvement and addressed some EarlyInstallmentWeirdness.
** He fixed up grammatical errors and diction. Lines and descriptions that sounded clunky, awkward, or unnatural are gone for the most part. In addition, ShowDontTell is more frequent. He also took out or changed irrelevant and unnecessary information, scenes, and lines. For example, the lecture about Demon Tools went from a waste of words to establishing continuity, revealing that Kid has BREW with him, and possibly setting up something in the future.
** Instead of the whole “Month, Day, Week” thing, which was rather hard to follow, he simply puts the actual date. Tons more convenient.
** The treatment of Caius has definitely changed in the Introduction Arc. Yes, it establishes his character and whatnot, but stuff about him being antisocial, not liking the teamwork assignments, etc. is beaten into the readers a few too many times. One could even say he bordered on a Sympathetic Sue. However, the edits take away some of his lines and thoughts (thereby removing some CharacterFocus), his Angst is toned down a bit and portrayed better, he’s given a couple PetTheDog moments, and acts more like a teenager. Overall, he’s a less depressing character and more of an inspirational IronWoobie.
** The hunt for Young Thief Gestas is extended. Instead of being cornered and oneshotted by Maka, he goads Maka and Caius into chasing him throughout Venice and putting them into traps as he leads them to the rendezvous point with Cancer. It’s refreshing because it better establishes Gestas as a young, mischievous trickster, and it provides a surprising amount of comedy.
** In the same chapter, Cancer acts and talks a bit more, revealing a bit more of her character and abilities. Before, her esotericism left readers and characters in-universe wondering just what her goals were (that only gets partially answered later on). Now, we have a little to chew on. Also, while still not to the extent of , Cancer is a more concrete KnightOfCerebus due to an instance or two of dangerous genre-savviness.
** Chapter 19 is also this. The new version lets us see both gang bosses and their mentalities, giving us a preview of what to expect in a later story arc. The same chapter also provides background about Cancer and a connection to FanFic/SoulEaterZeta, culminating in the audience learning what her motives and ambitions are.

** The Cobra Island Arc is honestly where the story gets really good. It breaks the somewhat formulaic nature of the story by introducing none other than Medusa, whose role is to do the same thing as she did in canon: make things darker and more dramatic. She puts many of the characters in unfamiliar situations and uses her cunning to make sure things keep going her way all throughout Cobra Island. Characters are put through situations that reveal the depth of her personalities and forced to make decisions or come to realizations. Not to mention, the battles are more intense and have higher skate. It's all capped off with a satisfying conclusion.

** Nayumi Ardsen. Like Marcellus, she is the victim of ParentalNeglect plus implied emotional abuse throughout her whole childhood. Her parents are infamous thieves who dragged her around with her on their heists. They even made use of her by teaching their tactics and then having Nayumi directly participate. At the tender age of 12, Nayumi is a jaded nihilist who believes life if pointless and fate is cruel, and she is also a broken girl who desperately wants some stability and normalcy in her life. Even in the present-day, it doesn't stop there. After Marcellus temporarily leaves the Academy for the gang, Nayumi reveals a deep, unhealthy attachment to him and a disconnect to everyone else, including her own partner Rowena, and regresses to her original personality because her whole world just shattered before her very eyes.
