* JerkassWoobie: Saavedro's been through a lot of shit thanks to Sirrus and Achenar, and deserves the chance to finally go home, but he's still a gigantic dick about the whole thing; several of the bad endings [[spoiler: have him smash your head in with a hammer in a rage. He will even do this if you fulfill all the conditions necessary to get the good ending, then open the door that has thus far kept him from getting at you up until this point; apparently he doesn't really care if you've kept your word or not, he just really wants you dead for being on Atrus' side]].
** [[spoiler: [[FridgeBrilliance He thought you betrayed him.]] After all, everyone he's met connected to Atrus has betrayed him; why should you be any different? It doesn't help that, if you do everything right, you get the chance to [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential betray him yourself]].]]

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: [[spoiler: When Saavedro says, "I can't do this again", does he mean "I can't bear the thought of being separated from my family again"? Or does he mean "I can't repeat my scheme and am no longer a threat"?]]

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic: Yeesha = Yeshua/Jesus. This becomes most obvious in ''End Of Ages''.

* TearJerker:
** Saavedro's plight. [[spoiler:Trapped between a few Ages, convinced that his people are all dead.]]
** Pick an ending. Most of them are tear jerkers, be they sad or happy. Such as when [[spoiler:you leave Saavedro trapped forever]]. Also the messages Saavedro leaves, especially as you enter each answer into the thing with the book to Narayan. The way he left the last message untouched, so it was Atrus, proud of his boys getting so far on their own...
** One easter egg gives you a glimpse of Saavedro with a stuffed animal on his shoulder. You get the distinct impression it's a CompanionCube to stave off his crushing loneliness. It's most likely the pelt of a Squee that he killed.
** His mural of his wife is left incomplete. Saavedro honestly ''can't'' remember anymore what her eyes were like.
** Watching the mother bird struggle inside the carnivorous plant's maw, crying piteously for help.

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Despite being the villain for most of the game, the utter look of joy on Saavedro's face as he thankfully waves to the Stranger, after s/he releases the forcefield and lets him ''finally'' return home after 20 years.
** Seeing the mother bird fly free to return to her chick was pretty touching, too.

** For the other bad ending, [[spoiler: comply with his demands without question and he'll just chuck the Releeshann book over the side, as if to say "Thanks for the help, oh, and if you see Atrus, tell him to kiss my ass!"]]
* ParanoiaFuel: Watching Saavedro pace back and forth behind the glass. You JUST KNOW he's going to turn and look at you.
* PlayerPunch: Saavedro's journal. It starts off as a straightforward journal about the details of his revenge, but as you collect pages for it (which are scattered around various ages), more of Saavedro's backstory forms - he's clearly suffering severe mental trauma from his ordeal, was essentially tortured by Sirrus and Achenar, and once trusted Atrus before his sons ruined everything. It's quite tragic to read the whole thing once you have all the pages.
