* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Shutter Snap and Mane Allgood were supposed to care for Scootaloo despite being away for so long due to work to the point of missing most of her accomplishments. But since we've never seen Scootaloo with caretakers until this episode, and even they're not there full time (as seen in "Flight to the Finish", where there's no guardian in sight, and as stated in the episode due to their living outside of town) and according to the novel they debuted in only recently started, it seemed they effectively [[ParentalAbandonment abandoned her]]. ("Parental Glideance" already confirmed that Scootaloo has confidence issues due to a lack of support at home.) Their worry over [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS9E2TheBeginningOfTheEndPart2 Sombra's recent attack]] is undermined by the numerous other times the locals have been endangered over the eight previous seasons, the movie, and semi-canon ExpandedUniverse works without their apparent concern. That and when they're first introduced, one of the first things they do is accidentally release a dangerous animal into the Ponyville schoolhouse. This caused many fans, some of whom questioned why they'd have a child if they'd be too busy for them, to think they crossed [[ParentsAsPeople forgivably flawed]] to [[ParentalNeglect straight neglect]].

This assessment is not helped by the fact that they clearly did not leave Scootaloo any sort of proper guardian or caretaker (her aunts visit from time to time, but they live away) despite Scootaloo only being a young child.

*DracoInLeatherPants: A weird example. Scootaloo's parents are not evil, but are shown to be neglectful towards Scootlall; never visiting her in like months to possibly even years, and leaving her (a child implied to be under nine years old) completely alone with no caretaker or guardian to speak of. The only time they do appear is when they show up in town to sell the house and force their daughter to move away from her friends and the home she knows without taking into account her well-being. Some fans, however, like to down play their egregious and neglectful actions and instead focus solely only their heroic careers and personalities. To be fair they do show some care for their daughter but not nearly enough to excuse their neglect of her, which even the show seems to gloss over.

* RonTheDeathEater: Several critics of Scootaloo's parents, who were admittedly a bit neglectful, treat them as worse than the AbusiveParent Spoiled Rich or such that Scootaloo would be better off as an orphan. This overlooks they showed enough care and their careers gave such valid reason for their absence Scootaloo held no ill will over it ([[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS7E7ParentalGlideance despite acknowledging it effected her]]) until this episodes conflict, caused by their desire to protect Scootaloo and [[LockedOutOfTheLoop things they didn't know about]], which they resolved by the end.

** After spending the whole series avoiding them, Scootaloo's parents appearing caught everyone off-guard as nothing suggested they'd show up here. The official synopsis even called them "unexpected".

Also Wasted requires they actually be in or at leashed alluded to in the work to be a wasted as opposed to not there to waste.

* [[SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct She Really Can Act]]: Not that she wasn't plenty impressive before, but Madaleine Peters really goes above and beyond in this episode, especially with her entirely believable performance of talking while crying.

** If the CMC needed to make up a rare creature, [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS9E10GoingToSeed The Great Seedling]] would have been the perfect candidate for a SnipeHunt. Then again, given that the characters in “Going to Seed” treated the character similarly to Santa Claus, it would have risked making Scootaloo look childish and in more need of protection.
