Narm is for specific moments only, "this character's hair looks silly" is too general.

* {{Narm}}:
** The SuperMode forms of the Mane Six when they unlock the chest. Sure it's a cool moment, but they just look silly, what with the EightiesHair. They've been compared to [[VideoGame/PokemonXAndY Mega Evolutions]], for one. Many agree that the advertising versions of Rainbow Power, which feature everything but the large hair, look much less silly.
** The final battle with Tirek is widely noted for its ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' influences, which was cool; making the ponies go Super Saiyan just made it extra silly on top of looking ridiculous.
** Plus, despite Twilight's transformation being saved for last, she actually looks the ''least'' different, with just a couple new highlights in her mane and tail.

* EvilIsCool: It is universally agreed that Tirek is one of the most exciting villains to be featured in the show, helped greatly by his awesome fight with Twilight in the middle of the episode.

AST now needs official conformation is was an after the fact change in response to complaints. IP is now Flame Bait.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: For those opposed to Twilight becoming an alicorn princess, a commonly cited argument was that it felt like the show was putting Twilight above her friends, which they felt not only seemed like favoritism from the writers, but went against the show's defining theme of friendship. The revelation that Twilight's friends ''including Spike'' will apparently be ruling alongside her in her role as the Princess of Friendship may be an attempt to address this.

* IdiotPlot: After the decision to test the dubiously loyal Discord backfires, their plan B is to hide their magic in Twilight Sparkle, whom Tirek didn't know of. This also backfires because [[FailedASpotCheck they forget to remove the stained glass window depicting Twilight]], Discord could have and did just told him about her, and keeping it hidden from her friends causes them to be caught off guard and used as hostages to force Twilight to give up her magic. Tirek would have won if not for his backstabbing the still loyal [[StoryBreakerPower and useful]] to him Discord needlessly soon and [[BondVillainStupidity not eliminating anyone after getting what he wanted from them]].

Being a Fake Defector would negate the point of making him fully realize the worth of friendship if he was already fully on their side.

** A number of hints are dropped through both episodes that Discord's betrayal was part of a ploy to help his friends, such as him lying to Tirek about not sensing Twilight's collection of the alicorn magic and hiding Twilight's existence from Tirek until he couldn't avoid it. However, if he really was a FakeDefector, he never discloses this to anyone, as once he's drained of magic the episode presents him as having truly fallen for Tirek's lie and thinking [[WeCanRuleTogether they would rule together]], making his friends' [[EasilyForgiven quick re-acceptance of him]] harder to swallow.

** "Twilight's Kingdom" also left such a huge mark and had [[NothingIsTheSameAnymore the single biggest status quo shattering event]] in the show, that it led to some fans declaring FanonDiscontinuity over the rest of the series. Season 5, while still considered a good season in its own right, never quite reached the heights of Season 4 and its finale, and it was made worse with Seasons 6 and 7 being seen as the weakest season in the show for the former and a SoOkayItsAverage season for the latter. The impact of ''Twilight's Kingdom'' is felt even further in [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTheMovie2017 the 2017 movie]], which took a lot of influence from it in terms of plot and scope.

* MoralEventHorizon: Lord Tirek crossed this by having Discord betray and imprison Twilight's friends only to similarly betray Discord and drain his Magic. Discord remained sympathetic even before being betrayed as he had moments of conflictedness about it and only did so because he thought Tirek was a more compatible friend, while Tirek betrayed and rejected the friendship that redeemed Discord.

** ''Twilight's Kingdom'' is widely regarded as the best episode of the series, and meant that the Season 5 finale and beyond had a lot to ensure up to. A big point of contention being the HeelFaceTurn of the BigBad, since Discord got a far better received one here despite it being only a subplot in comparison.

MEH can only happen once. This is the stand out change in portrayal moment. Imprisoning the princesses is just generic evildoing.

* MoralEventHorizon:
** If Lord Tirek hadn't crossed this already, he certainly did when he imprisoned Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity and Spike, drained their magic, betrayed Discord, ''and'' drained him of his magic. Even earlier than that, he banishes Celestia, Luna, and Cadance to Tartarus, even though they have no magic and are powerless to do anything against him.
** Interestingly inverted with Discord. You'd think betraying all of Equestria to Tirek, including Fluttershy, would count as this, but due to [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone his recurring remorse]] and reaction to Tirek betraying him not only make him sympathetic, but solidify his HeelFaceTurn. It helps he only sided with Tirek due to seeing him as a genuine friend.

** Was Lord Tirek planning to betray Discord from the start or did he feel betrayed when he learned that Discord was omitting info on Twilight? In that same perspective, was his disgust towards his brother betraying him and Twilight protecting the traitorous Discord MoralMyopia, or simply him inferring AtLeastIAdmitIt about the half heartedness of their supposed friendship.

** After spending a whole season building up the Rainbow Powers, they'll appear exactly ''once'' more in the show's remaining five seasons...in a dream sequence. Apparently the fan reaction was just that bad.
