* NeverLiveItDown: This episode sealed Angel Bunny's reputation for many as an [[KarmaHoudini unpunished]] {{Domestic Abuse}}r. * TheScrappy: Boxxy Brown, the cherry seller. Thanks to his [[AdamSmithHatesYourGuts unreasonable pricing]] upon hearing that Fluttershy needed his last cherry and then rubbing salt into Fluttershy's wounds after selling it to another customer for a much cheaper price, has earned himself some less than flattering alternate names and is probably the most hated of the {{Jerkass}}es in the episode. [[KarmaHoudini And he doesn't even get a well-deserved taste of Fluttershy's wrath.]]

* GeniusBonus: Iron Will's first appearance is inside a maze. He's a minotaur. In Myth/GreekMythology, the original minotaur was imprisoned in a labyrinth. While "maze" and "labyrinth" [[YouKeepUsingThatWord aren't technically the same thing]] (a maze has multiple paths, whereas a labyrinth has one path that gets concentrically smaller) they've evolved into synonyms over the centuries.

%%%%%% Commenting out because of the quote's grammar. It is broken. Is it supposed to be "You can do anything you want to Fluttershy and she won't complain" or is there supposed to be hyphens in here?
%%%%* AccidentalInnuendo: "You want do anything to her and she won't complain Fluttershy" can be interpreted ''very wrongly'' by a lot of viewers.

* DracoInLeatherPants: Some fans interpret Iron Will as being a perfectly upstanding entrepreneur (see DesignatedVillain above) and say the onus is entirely on Fluttershy for taking his 'product' too far. While Fluttershy does admit her share of responsibility, Rarity and Pinkie Pie are also in total agreement that Iron Will is a charlatan peddling terrible advice and is directly responsible for the bad behavior of an easily manipulated 'doormat'. While real-world debates about use versus intent can get ''lively'', the script makes its stance on Iron Will pretty clear.

** A common theory is that this episode is actually a flaskback that takes place before Twilight came to Ponyville. Twilight and Spike don't appear and aren't referenced at all and the only other Mane Cast members that do appear are established to be a longtime friend of Fluttershy's (Rarity) and a longtime friend of ''everyone'' (Pinkie). Earlier episodes show that Fluttershy is capable of being assertive occasionally, maybe it came as a result of these events?
*** Fluttershy sends a letter to Princess Celestia at the end of the episode, something that the princess didn't ask them to do until Season 2, and it's unlikely that Fluttershy would have send Princess Celestia a letter about something that she learned several months (at least) ago. However, one could argue that Fluttershy is telling a story to Celestia via the letter and told her of her first time being assertive, as it's likely something she could have told her of why she kept doing her best to conquer her shyness and it's someting she has to live with. HeadCanon for ya, huh?

* AccidentalAesop: Defied. Fluttershy takes "being assertive" to mean "using intimidation to force others to do what you want", which is then shown to be ''very wrong''. And while she does use [[MaybeMagicMaybeMundane her Stare]] on Angel at the end, it's only to [[BigNo make a point]]; he eats the salad of his own free will.
