The former even appeared as the final villain of [[spoiler: was made into a real character in season 9, even if he didn't appear in the flesh]], while the latter has a similarly-colored pony among the Wonderbolts.

Added DiffLines:

* GrowingTheBeard: Many fans view the first four serials as of debatable quality. The show, however, finds itís footing at "The Return of Tambelon".

* EarWorm: Though many songs can go from terrible to decent depending on the episode, when you find a good one they tend to hit hard:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAYX1bVmz5Q Imagine You Were Friends]]
** "Oh, For a Rainy Day."

* CompleteMonster: [[EvilOverlord King Lavan]], the tyrannical ruler of the [[MagmaMan Lava Demons]] in "The Quest of the Princess Ponies", regularly physically abuses his subjects for little reason other than spite and his own amusement, especially his second in command Sludge. Coveting power for its own sake, Lavan seeks to absorb the power of the Princess Ponies' wands to become [[AGodAmI an all-powerful crystal being]], completely uncaring that doing so would trigger a magical cataclysm, [[ItsAllAboutMe so long as his selfish ambitions are fulfilled]]. When the Princess Ponies refuse to help him, Lavan attempts to have them executed in a lava pool out of spite, and repeatedly tries to kill their group, including tthe baby dragon Spike. Greedy and power-hungry beyond measure, Lavan [[TheUnfettered will stop at nothing and destroy anything to claim the power he craves]].

Added DiffLines:

* WhatAnIdiot: Good Lord, there are so many times in this series where the ponies or even Megan and her siblings do something stupid.

Added DiffLines:

* ShockingSwerve: Some have criticized Porcinaís HeelFaceTurn for being completely out of the blue. Her reason is that she canít bring herself to turn the remaining ponies into glass because theyíre alive despite the fact that she literally did just that in the previous episode.

Added DiffLines:

** There's also a surprising amount of fanart of the three witches. Them being voiced by popular (at the time) actors in the movie may help matters.

Added DiffLines:

** The Raptorians cross it by convincing Porcina to turn Ponyland to glass with everyone in it for their own selfish reasons.

* FanonDiscontinuity: Many fans disregard the last few episodes of the series or pretend they happened earlier. Not because they were particularly bad as such, but rather dropping most of the main cast to market the baby ponies. The show ends without any finality regardless, but most choose to believe the series ends with the Golden Horseshoes. Being the last multi-part adventure story and the last episode to feature the core cast of Season 1 characters (although the show by definition [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters had no core cast]]), it's seen as a last hurrah for the show.

** Tirek threatening to behead Spike, a ''baby'', to punish Scorpan for his failure. If not then, the 'turn ponies into mindless monsters to pull his chariot' is probably the point where Tirek crossed this line.

** A more subtle example from 'Mish Mash Melee' where small, pastel-coloured 'droplet' creatures known as the Frazzits are scrambling the minds of the dell dwellers (and the episode's main ponies [[ADayInTheLimelight Wind Whistler, Fizzy, Gusty and Shady]]). Fizzy receives Wind Whistler's intellect due to the effects of the Frazzit's scrambling, while Wind Whistler becomes as much of a goofball as Fizzy normally is. While Fizzy is ordering Wind Whistler to take action, she refers to the Frazzits as 'protoplastic'. A 'protoplastic organisms' (the literal words used by Fizzy) is a plant, fungal, bacterial or archaeon cell which has lost its cell wall. The cell wall keeps cells rigid and prevents them from falling apart. As the Frazzits transform people's minds into their opposites, guess how the Frazzits affect the dell dwellers? They transform them from diligent workers into goofball with no sense of responsibility - they are no longer rigid and their community is falling apart due to the Frazzits.

* NarmCharm: The cartoon's shoddy animation, amusing goofs, some silly voices, and occasional broken aesops all make the show a hilarious watch. But the D and D inspired setting, creepy villains, and some downright [[BewareTheNiceOnes badass moments courtesy of the ponies]] makes the show awesome when it isn't silly.

* TheOtherDarrin: In "The End of Flutter Valley", Hydia is voiced by Creator/TressMacNeille instead of Cloris Leachman, who voiced her in the [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTheMovie movie]]. Similarly, her daughters Reeka and Draggle are both voiced by Jennifer Darling, instead of their theatrical voice actors Rhea Perlman and Madeline Kahn respectively
