%%* TheWoobie: Paz and Chico.
* {{Woolseyism}}: The Spanish translation does this regarding with the name of the setting the game take place: In the English version, the U.S. naval prison facility in Cuba is never named, even if it's pretty obvious, due to the way it was described in the dialogue, that the base is ''Guantanamo''. In the Spanish version, however, the base is outright called by that name since the very beginning of the game, even if the subtitles contradicts the English dialogue, which avoids saying the name of the base aloud, very likely due to the controversial nature of that base for American gamers.

Irrelevant part of the edit; page only covers Ground Zeroes.

* MisBlamed: While Konami is still (and rightfully) blamed for the ''[=MGS V=]'' saga being CutShort, ''Ground Zeroes'' existence wasn't entirely their fault. It was actually ''[[https://twitter.com/HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN/status/1637763162165612545 Kojima]]'' who divorced ''Ground Zeroes'' from ''The Phantom Pain'', since he wanted to experiment with an EpisodicGame format.

Requires Word Of God confirmation

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** There was quite a bit of backlash when it was announced that ''Ground Zeroes'' would be fairly short compared to other titles in the series. In response to this, Creator/{{Konami}} lowered the game's price (about half the price of competing titles) shortly before the game's release to compensate for this, made the game free on [=PlayStation=] Plus and Xbox Live Gold for the months leading up to ''The Phantom Pain'', and gave the game away as a pre-order bonus for Steam users.
** The previously exclusive extra ops for the [=PlayStation=]/Xbox versions of the game, Déjà Vu and Jamais Vu, respectively, are available for all platforms via a patch.
** Presumably, this is also the reason why Paz is never called Pacifica Ocean (her real name); a lot of fans thought it was a [[EmbarrassingFirstName lame]] [[EmbarrassingLastName name]], and "Paz" is easier to take seriously.

* SequelDifficultySpike: Compared to ''Peace Walker'', this game is quite a bit more difficult due to improved enemy AI, the larger map, bullet drop, and no Mother Base support. Enemies won't just line up for a CQC chain, Fulton recoveries are a no go, and the only ways to replenish those precious tranquilizer rounds are to either find them around Camp Omega or to sit into the helicopter and top off your magazine, which still won't replenish your reserve rounds. And that's not even getting into the hard versions of the game's missions, which features tougher enemies and leaves Snake without a silenced assault rifle going in.

If they are seen as pitiful /supposed to be loads, not this. Scrappy only applies to the initial works they were hated in.

* TheScrappy: Any players who hated Chico and Paz in ''Peace Walker'' for their annoying personalities and unceasing tendency to do nothing but cause more problems for Snake to solve might not find much respite in ''Ground Zeroes''. In fact, with their current physical debilitations, both characters have moved from being metaphorical loads to very literal ones. Though strangely, [[MoralEventHorizon everything Skull Face put them through prior]] garnered the two ''MUCH'' [[AlasPoorScrappy sympathy]].

* HarsherInHindsight:
** Chico's "Love" Briefing Files from ''Peace Walker'' and Paz's tapes where she speaks about the time she spent with Chico and the boy's crush on her. It's hard not to feel sad knowing how Skull Face takes advantage of their bond and Chico's feelings for Paz, [[spoiler: and how tragically this all ends, with Chico being unable to save Paz.]]
** The fact that you can erase the logos of Creator/HideoKojima-directed games in "Déjà Vu" becomes this in light of Konami removing Kojima's name from box art and promotional materials.

Not helped by the fact soon after its release, speedrunners, who knew what they were doing and skipped all of the cutscenes, completed the game in under 10 minutes. To its credit, the game does have extra missions available after completion, multiple ways to approach objectives and of course, a ranking system to master. * TheWoobie: '''Paz and Chico.'''

to:

* VindicatedByHistory: ''Ground Zeroes'' was heavily criticized for essentially being a playable demo released at a hefty price given its short length. As time has gone on and copies have become very cheap, alongside being bundled in with the Definitive Edition, it has gained some favorable reception for its narrative, tighter gameplay focus and Camp Omega being a popular map that players were irritated didn't return in ''Phantom Pain.''

Misuse that fits Epileptic Trees (insane fan theories) better. Fan Wank is for when fans go out of their way to try to fill in plot holes. Quiet = Chico turned out to not even be true.

* FanWank: There are plenty of people that believe that [[spoiler: Paz's death in ''Ground Zeroes'' was faked]], which is fairly conceivable. The former [[spoiler: turned out to be true (except [[{{Hallucinations}} not really]]).]] The latter... not even close.
