Added DiffLines:

* ToughActToFollow: The infectiously lively "Another Day of Sun" opening music number can actually make it harder to enjoy the rest of the show due to how few of the other numbers can compare to it and how none of the interesting and likable singers from it show up again.

Added DiffLines:

* AwardSnub: While "City of Stars" was always pegged to not only get nominated for Song but also win too, some fans preferred the other of the two eligible songs—"Start A Fire"—as more deserving of a slot in the category than "Audition (The Fools Who Dream)" was.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The opening number, "Another Day of Sun", has absolutely no bearing on the plot, its style doesn't quite fit the other movies' musical numbers (with some being diegetic, some being fantasy sequences and the rest almost being actual conversations or monologues). and it leads to nothing. Administrivia/TropesAreTools; however, not only do some think it's one of the best scenes in the movie, it functionally establishes the movie as a stylized musical and [[MusicalWorldHypothesis its rules]] (its songs being [[LiteraryAgentHypothesis exaggerated fantasies of "the real"]]), better allowing the audience to suspend their disbelief. There's also a bit of {{foreshadowing}} with [[spoiler:the first singer bringing up how she left her boyfriend behind to get into show business]].

Losing a nomination is not an award snub, come on, people

* AwardSnub: "Start a Fire" arguably should've received the Best Original Song nomination over "Audition (The Fools Who Dream)" even though "City of Stars" was always gonna win either way.
%% Per discussion in the "Is This an Example?" thread, losing Best Picture at the Oscars is not an Award Snub.
