* UnfortunateImplications: As [[Website/SFDebris Chuck Sonnenburg]] noticed in his [[http://sfdebris.com/videos/anime/kannazuki11.php review of the series]], the show seems to treat the more problematic elements in Himeko and Chikane's relationship (stuff like [[spoiler:Chikane sexually assaulting Himeko]], and Himeko still pining for Chikane, despite, well, [[spoiler:the aforementioned sexual assault]]), behavior that would at best been seen as extremely abusive and unhealthy in a heterosexual relationship, as somehow more "acceptable" out of some misguided belief that, apparently, [[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnFemale same sex relationships are or should be held up to very different standards when it comes to what is considered abuse]].

** Chikane Himemiya was known as one of the biggest BaseBreakingCharacter amongst anime history. Thanks to the events at [[WhamEpisode Episode 8]], the volume of her detractors shot up to the umpteenth degree who thinks that the MoralEventHorizon [[NeverLiveItDown defined her]] and the fact that she got everything she wanted in the end, even if she had to suffer for it, makes her a complete KarmaHoudini whose negative traits were pushed aside and 'glorified' in order to make way for the OfficialCouple. Her supporters, on the other hand, recognized the complexity of her character as well as her inner conflict (not to mention realizing that the WhamEpisode was just a one-off deal, not exactly defining her character), praising her as one of the more interesting characters in the show and knows that she planned to become the SilentScapegoat (whereas the detractors feels that [[TheScapegoat the 'Silent' part should be removed.]])

** Chikane Himemiya. Primarily because of her {{Jerkass}} behavior and alleged double standards in relation to the author to this. At the same time, although her actions are an old echo of the romantisation of violence in YuriGenre and YaoiGenre, they still have a (flimsy,. for many) plot justification.
** Souma. While part of the audience sees it as an obvious and necessary RomanticRunnerUp, whom exists only for complicating romance and creating an additional drama in the storyline, others see him as an poor ButtMonkey, whose contribution to fighting Orochi and helping Himeko is completely ignored for the sake of creating OfficialCouple of two girls. That and no one telling him he was in a yuri series.

* DesignatedHero: The series seems to permanently be on Chikane's side... no matter how selfish, bitchy, hypocritical, smug and [[spoiler: ultimately creepy and predatory]] she comes off. It's even worse when she and [[spoiler: Miyako]] commit similar actions ([[spoiler: Miyako molests Chikane, whereas Chikane rapes Himeko]]) but the series shows [[spoiler: Miyako]] as a clear villain whereas Chikane stays as the heroine.
* DieForOurShip: Poor Souma.
* DracoInLeatherPants: While Chikane's actions can be considered justified instory, some fans are are all too ''eager'' to excuse her for her very depraved actions, while she herself seems to think she's far beyond redemption ''but still pulls them''. The fact that it becomes meaningless, since her reincarnation unintentionally broke the RedemptionEqualsDeath, makes it even more controversial.

Oh dear, Souma. He's definitely in the wrong series, so he tends to get shoved aside to make way for the OfficialCouple. Ironic because [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy he's the type of guy that would let them be together so long as his beloved is happy.]] Being a textbook NiceGuy (often considered boring) probably didn't help this case for the trope.

** This becomes even more ambiguous, given that Himeko prefers Chikane in contrast to Souma, whom the show portrays as a much more caring and good-natured heterosexual LoveInterest, lacking in Chikane's abusive behavior and ready also to sacrifice themselves in the name of love for the main heroine.
** Plus, Chikane is supposed to be seen as "heroic" even after [[spoiler: having raped Himeko]]... but a few episodes before that, ''Chikane'' was [[spoiler: molested]] by another woman ([[spoiler: Miyako]]), and the ''other'' guy who wanted Himeko for himself (Miyako's brother Girochi) was a creepy StalkerWithACrush. [[spoiler: Miyako]] and Girochi were villainized for wanting to [[spoiler: sexually assault]] Chikane and Himeko, okay... but Chikane's own [[spoiler: sexual molestation of Himeko]] was supposed to be "acceptable" due to the plot? [[FlatWhat What.]]

* {{Wangst}}:
** Reiko wants to destroy the world because the manga of her dreams isn't successful, or simply out out of bitterness that her manga/anime got screwed by {{Executive Meddling}}. Either way, it's not a very good reason, especially when compared to the other necks' {{Freudian Excuse}}s (i.e, Corona is also in the entertainement fields, but she became an Orochi not ''just'' because of her loss of fame, but because [[spoiler: she was sexually abused]]).
** Chikane's {{gayngst}} often comes off as her [[ItsAllAboutMe being incredibly selfish and whiny]] than as something coming from [[LoveHurts "an emotionally-torn woman in love"]]. Especially when she whines to herself about being in love with Himeko and feeling impure for her feelings, but still drapes herself all over an unnamed girl from the archery team - which some viewers saw as both creepy and hypocritical.
