In short, John K [[{{Hypocrite}} did the very thing that he criticized others of doing.]]

* AcceptableTargets: Given that Kricfalusi is a controversial figure in WesternAnimation, he has a bunch of them. Examples include:
** The number of times you can find him saying ''anything'' nice about [[ExecutiveMeddling executives in animation]] [[ThereAreNoGoodExecutives can be counted on one hand and still have fingers left to count.]] Among the ''very few'' he has ''any'' respect for are Vanessa Coffey and Fred Seibert.
** Creator/{{Disney}} and all who follow or imitate them (such as Creator/DonBluth) get the lion's share of his scrutiny, especially the films from UsefulNotes/TheNineties and onward. And that goes ''double'' for pretty much any saturday morning cartoon plant, particularly Creator/{{Filmation}} and Creator/DICEntertainment.
** Cartoon critics who [[StopHavingFunGuys take them way too seriously]] tend to get mocked by him, too.
** [[WritersSuck Cartoon writers (especially those who can't draw or animate)]] are either considered to be sellout mercenaries or are given the same stigma as a tyrannical cultural imperialist by John.
** In "The Rise and Fall of Construction in cartoons Pt 2", he remarks about a caricature of UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler that it's pretty hard to go wrong with making fun of him, since he considers him [[ThoseWackyNazis the ultimate cartoon character]].
** Cartoon and video game nerds and [[LetsSeeYouDoBetter amateurs or non-artists who talk smack about other artists without having anything to back it up]] are occasionally taken potshots at, such as in the post "Comment Rules".
** Followers of New Age Philosophy are treated with strong disdain as well.

** The blog is not at all subtle about its condemnation of sloppy artistry, formulaic art and stories and the dangers of {{political correctness|GoneMad}}.

** Some viewers of his blog come away agreeing with his ideas about pushing for more cartoon-like animation, but feel the tasteless and extreme way the ideas are presented make them a hard pill to swallow.
** Most people agree completely with his hatred of HorribleHollywood and executives calling the shots in cartoons. * UnacceptableTargets: The plot is notorious for [[RefugeInAudacity priding itself]] on its shamelessly vulgar, anti-politically correct humor, and it sometimes blurs the line between whats [[CrossesTheLineTwice deliberately thoughtless or nasty to provoke a shock or laugh]] or just plain nasty or thoughtless, with some posts teetering dangerously close to being outright sexist, racist, or homophobic. John's own ultra-conservative viewpoints (despite his insistence of being otherwise) aren't helping his case at all.

* UnconventionalLearningExperience: Not unlike the reviews of WebVideo/RedLetterMedia, John K's blog does offer a lot of insight into what goes into making a cartoon and how the films he loves were made between all the sophomoric humor and tasteless jokes. The main difference however is that Mike Stoklasa's Mr. Plinkett is clearly just a character while John K's online persona...isn't.

* MemeticMutation: While it didn't ''invent'' the term (which had existed as far back as the early 90's), the blog (specifically, [[https://web.archive.org/web/20190606213610/http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2010/01/cal-arts-style.html this post]]) is considered one of the biggest proprietors of the now infamous animation term "Cal Arts Style", which has since mutated to describe what Wiki/ThisVeryWiki refers to as ThinLineAnimation.[[note]]John's blog specifically used the term to describe what he considered a very inbred drawing and animation style that uses works like 60's Disney as its biggest influence while adding in bits and pieces of other influences like 80's {{Saturday morning cartoon}}s, with its focus being on slick and cutesy as opposed to being funny. It also bears noting that he issued an [[http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2007/04/cal-arts-1-apology-to-students.html apology post]] to Cal Arts students later on.[[/note]] Ironically enough, the blog petered out before John could give his opinion such a controversial art-style.

* HePannedItNowHeSucks: One of the most notorious elements of the blog back in its heyday was John's unrepentant scorn towards well-liked movies and shows from UsefulNotes/TheRenaissanceAgeOfAnimation and the years surrounding it. Several of the targets of John's ire include (but are by no means limited to) ''WesternAnimation/{{Animaniacs}}'', ''WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Pocahontas}}'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Mulan}}'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Tarzan}}'', ''WesternAnimation/TheEmperorsNewGroove'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Tangled}}'', ''Franchise/StarWars'', ''WesternAnimation/TheIronGiant'', ''WesternAnimation/TheRoadToElDorado'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Shrek}}'', ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda'', ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents'', ''WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack'', and even ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' at one point. It's telling that his review of ''WesternAnimation/CloudyWithAChanceOfMeatballs'' ending with him giving it a ''zero'' and saying that it was still ''higher'' than he'd rank other movies of the time.
* HilariousInHindsight: In the early nineties, John wrote an infamously inflammatory review of ''WesternAnimation/{{Animaniacs}}'' [[ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch before watching a single episode]] (largely to spite Creator/TomRugger and Creator/StevenSpielberg; the latter of which he also revealed a personal dislike for in regards to his films, especially regarding ''WesternAnimation/WereBackADinosaursStory'' and ''Film/ETTheExtraTerrestrial'') which today reads as something of a prototype for the kind of narcissistic rants against popular things he didn't like that would makes up most of his blog. A year after Katie Rice publicly accused Kricfalusi of raping her, it was announced that she'd be overseeing the reboot of ''Animaniacs.''

** Many posts centered on sexual content (especially his commentary on a [[BlackComedyRape rape joke]] in a WesternAnimation/BettyBoop cartoon in [[http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2007/12/dont-take-bettys-boop.html "Don't Take Betty's Boop"]]) and on artist Katie Rice (such as him referring to her as a "cute thing" in [[http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2006/05/animation-school-lesson-2-squash-and.html "Animation School Lesson 2"]] while she's making some very unfortunate facial expressions) became incredibly {{squick}}y in light of she and many other ex-Spumco employees calling John out on [[https://www.buzzfeed.com/arianelange/john-kricfalusi-ren-stimpy-underage-sexual-abuse his sexual predator behavior towards them.]]

The "nice" John you read on the blog, who just happens to have a curmudgeonly streak, is an anomaly we rarely saw. [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk The whole thing is the streak.]] Some of his online fans got the Dr. Jekyll version of him. Others had a whole crew's worth of Mr. Hyde unleashed on them."
** John's remarks on how most cartoon studios [[HardWorkFallacy invest in hard work]] [[HardWorkHardlyWorks for the sake of hard work or showing off]] were very hard to take seriously as is, but they became [[UnderminedByReality painfully ironic]] when it came to light that John was notorious for blowing through budgets on his shows and doing countless, countless retakes on scenes in his cartoons over trivial things like the color of a present Stimpy hands Ren or Stimpy's butt not shaking the ''exact'' way he wanted it to due to his indecisiveness, and that he even had the nerve to scam Carbunkle Cartoons by refusing to pay up for their hard work on Adult Party Cartoon (which prompted the lawsuit that ended up destroying Spumco) for the incredibly petty and unprofessional reason that their work as is didn't turn out satisfactory to him. In short, John K [[{{Hypocrite}} is guilty of doing the very thing he accuses others of doing.]]

** Even after both Kricfalusi's statutory rape scandal in 2018 and the nuclear disaster that was ''WesternAnimation/CansWithoutLabels'' a year later deep-sixed what little goodwill people and fans had for him, it's believed that the blog for what its worth ''is'' a good resource for instruction and inspiration, but that John's own opinions and self congratulating merits should be taken with a salt mine.

** Some viewers of his blog come away agreeing with his ideas about pushing for more cartoon like animation, but feel the tasteless and extreme way the ideas are presented make them a hard pill to swallow.

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: A big reason why the blog is so polarizing. The blogs whole tone is overwhelmingly caustic and mean-spirited, and John's opinions range from being merely sardonic and childish to downright misanthropic and hateful at worst, and often come with an air of vindictive, petty bitterness and [[HolierThanThou arrogant self-righteousness behind them]]. It makes his posts, even the educational ones, a hard pill to swallow. It only got worse when John's true nature as a person was revealed in 2018, leaving his blog seen now as little more than [[BiasSteamroller a propagandic soapbox]] for a grandstanding, predatory, narcissistic scumbag.

* BrokenBase: The [[VulgarHumor unapologetically tactless and mean-spirited humor]], shamelessly lurid, crass content, holier-than-thou elitism and [[TakeThat frequent snipes]] at contemporary works and artists for not living up to John's extremely rigid standards has gotten the blog a sharply divisive reception that [[OvershadowedByControversy often overshadows the rest of its content.]] Readers either love it for that, come for the instructional posts while staying arms length from John's opinions, or just avoid the blog altogether.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: John is more than willing to step on peoples toes and spit in the face of political correctness and general tact to get a laugh and/or get his points across. Just one of many examples is the post where he applauds WesternAnimation/BettyBoop cartoons for having very racy humor, up to including ''[[BlackComedyRape rape jokes]]''.[[note]]This, unfortunately, may have been why it was difficult to believe rumors about his statutory rape before they were confirmed by his victims: everything he said was [[RefugeInAudacity so extreme]] that nobody took his perverted remarks at face value. If committing statutory rape was going UpToEleven, everything else about him was at 10-and-a-half.[[/note]]

** It is also adamant that animation is just a tool on its own and that it absolutely needs a large variety of outside influences (i.e. live action movies and actors, comic book artists, caricaturists, fine artists and average everyday folk) and skilled artists with a strong point of view in order to be interesting.
** One of the major points the blog brings up with the force of a hammer is that just imitating others work without discretion or analysis and [[{{Disneyesque}} having Disney as your]] ''[[FollowTheLeader only]]'' [[FollowTheLeader influence is a bad thing]], providing evidence in "Do All Bland Movies Make Profits?" that copying their works in features only brought short term success to their imitators at best while resulting in a ''lot'' of films that either flopped at the box office or were critically disaparaged. It's one of the few arguments John brings up on his blog that people [[SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped can find themselves agreeing with,]] even if they dont agree with his opinions on the films themselves.
