*** Heidi noticing Klara's grandmother suddenly leaving without anyone else noticing during a party, and leaves the house to beg her to return, to no avail, as she apologizes to Heidi. Even worse, once she returns home, she notices the party is over and one of the maids assures her with NoSympathy that everything will go back to normal. It's especially hard as the grandmother was one of the few only things that made her stay in Frankfurt tolerable.
*** Days later, Heidi enters the art room and daydreams of being with his grandfather and Peter again when she sees a painting of an old man and a sheep guy in the mountains, only to notices its just a painting and she is caught by Rottenmeier, who discourages her to remember her previous life forever, worsening Heidi's depression.

* ToyShip: Heidi and Peter have been shipped frequently. Since the unofficial sequels of the original ''Heidi'' novels involved the two getting married and having children together, perhaps it shouldn't be ''that'' surprising that people have been shipping iterations of these two characters for decades.

* DevelopmentHell: Not the series, but fan subs were another matter entirely. This series remained practically unknown to the English speaking anime fandom for YEARS. Some years ago, four episodes were subbed but the series was dropped and left in limbo. Luckily, a fansub group named Silver Zero Subs began subbing it in 2010 and continued on for four whole years, and as of today, it's fully subbed.

* NoExportForYou: The 1979 feature-length adaptation of the TV series, which was put together by Zuiyo (not Zuiyo Eizo, which had become Creator/NipponAnimation in 1975) without Takahata's blessing, remains the only English-dubbed adaptation of the franchise to reach the United States. French-speaking Canadian fans were more fortunate, as the entire series was aired on Creator/{{CBC}}'s French-language network.
