* IKnewIt: 'Mason' was always one of the most common choices for being Dipper's real name, due to it starting with the same syllable as 'Mabel.' The book confirmed it to be his name.

** The fact that Fiddleford used the Memory Gun on lumberjacks building the Bunker and possibly Ford does put much of his character into question: Is he a well meaning but misguided and deeply traumatized man or is he DrunkWithPower and uncaring if someone gets hurt, as long as they forget what Fiddleford wants them to?
** Is The Better World Dimension ''really'' better? While Ford didn't end up going through the Portal, became famous and Fiddleford kept his sanity, that's really all we see: Stan is missing (possibly '''dead'''), Fiddleford's family isn’t around and the fates of Dipper, Mabel, Soos, Wendy and Gravity Falls in general are unknown. Depending on how the reader perceives it, it could be closer to a CrapsaccharineWorld.

** The entry on "The Love God" emphasises that the love potion's effects are temporary and if Robbie and Tambry hadn't had any legitimate attraction to each other they'd have broken up after it wore off.

** In the series, useful artifacts like the President's key and Soos's infinite pizza are completely forgotten about. The journal explains why. The key only works on locks that existed when it was made, so (among other things) it couldn't possibly unlock Mabel's trap in "Weirdmageddon 2." The infinite pizza works only for Soos, so all it really does is save him money.

** One of the more common criticisms of Mabel that makes her such a large BaseBreakingCharacter is the fact that Mabel never straightforwardly apologizes to Dipper for how her actions have negatively impacted him throughout the series, nor is she shown on-screen to care much about how she affects others. In Journal 3 Mabel reads the passage regarding the events of ''Sock Opera'' and adds to the page a very sweet apology for Dipper.
** To resolve the ContinuitySnarl issue from "Roadside Attraction", it's revealed that it did take place after Ford's return: the rift's container was beginning to crack, so Ford had Stan take Dipper, Mabel, Soos, Candy and Grenda on the trip while he worked on a plan.
** The reason why Ford didn't tell Mabel about the rift was that he was concerned that Mabel would break it due to her breaking snow globes in the Mystery Shack's gift shop.

** Better World!Stan, as his life stayed the same awful path despite the fact that Ford didn't get sucked into the Portal. In fact, there's a possibility he's ''dead.''

Alphabetization and the Plot Hole addressed didn't exist before the work so misuse.

* {{Fanon}}: Some fans have theorized that Ford is an aromantic asexual due to his explaining to Fiddleford (upon suggesting that he start a family after publishing his research) that he finds romance "One of the strangest things in the universe", the fact that he CannotTalkToWomen despite being about thirty years old, and that the Better World version of him doesn't have a romantic partner, despite the fact that things are nicer for him there.

** It's revealed Ford had torn out many pages of the Journal, and that they were restored when Weirdmageddon was reversed. This means the audience could get a more enjoyable, in-depth, and accurate view of Ford's research, while also not creating a PlotHole as to how Dipper was unaware of certain things (such as Ford once believing Bill to be a muse).

** Many fans [[HesJustHiding never bought .GIFfany's "death"]] based on the simple scientific fact that she was in a form of electrical energy at the time and energy can ''not'' be destroyed under any circumstance. And sure enough, the entry on [=.GIFfany=] reveals that she was just trapped in the arcade forever by the burning of her disc rather than killed.

** Some fans thought that [[spoiler: Stan getting his memories back happened too fast and was an AssPull to give the story a happy ending]]. The journal reveals that we saw a sped up version of events and that it took a ''full week'' to [[spoiler: restore his memories, and involved a lot more stimulus than just showing him Mabel's scrapbook]].
** A secret message found within the journal explains why Blendin Blandin didn't try to help Dipper and Mabel during Weirdmageddon. [[spoiler: It was due to Blendin being deemed a criminal for being responsible for the death of Time Baby. [[MisplacedRetribution Despite that it was Bill Cipher who killed Time Baby in the first place]]. As well as [[TrappedInThePast getting stuck in the 1800s]].]]

Renamed, replacement requires audience reaction/speculation. Hindsight only applies to/goes under the works made this not causing it (keeping the one with no page to move it to). Scrappy requires explaining how unintentionally hated.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Fiddleford shows signs of an anxiety disorder, which worsens during his time with Ford, the last straw being the Portal test.

* HarsherInHindsight:
** Had Ford not deliberately [[ConvenientlyInterruptedDocument censored his own journal]] before hiding it, Dipper would have immediately recognized him as a Pines from his self-portrait... and, after reading his entries on the creation of the portal, he might not have idolized the Author quite so much.
** Ford's instant rage against Stanley for bringing him back to Earth can be seen in a very different light when it turns out Stanley yanked him away from the Nightmare Dimension just as Ford had cornered Bill in the Quadrangle of Qonfusion.
** Remember at the end of "Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future" where we see that Blendin Blandin was [[DemonicPossession possessed by Bill Cipher]]. Well in Blendin's secret message, [[spoiler: it revealed that he made a [[DealWithTheDevil deal with Bill]] to stop Time Baby and the Time Police from teasing him]].
* HilariousInHindsight: With a special edition of the journal having been released, Stan's comment to "Buy it twice!" takes on new meanings.
** [[https://i.pinimg.com/originals/a3/58/a0/a358a08b6f1ed2caf4645b888e87172b.png This comic]] managed to predict [[ActorAllusion Ford's opinion on the "Man-Spider" creature]].

* TheScrappy: Out of the various places Ford traveled to, the Better World Dimension is the least liked by fans, due to that world's Ford not having improved as a person, and Stan presumably still being in his miserable vagabond lifestyle, if not outright [[DrivenToSuicide dead of suicide]].
