* AngstWhatAngst: {{Zigzagged}}
** Women rescued from goblins after being raped have severe and realistic psychological fall-out (Fighter from the Greenhorn Team drops out of adventuring entirely, Sword Maiden is still unstable a full decade afterwards), but ''everything'' that goblins do to people short of that tends to be HandWaved by their victims afterwards ([[spoiler:High Elf Archer getting dog-piled and half-stripped, Priestess ''having her arm partly bitten off'']] in Volume 2). The anime at least acknowledges it by [[spoiler:having Elf Archer show a bit of fear the next time the party encounters goblins]], but it's only a couple seconds and otherwise ignored.
-->'''High Elf Archer:''' Ahh, that was fun!
-->'''Dwarf Shaman:''' Being cornered and reduced to tears by goblins was fun, eh?
-->'''High Elf Archer:''' We beat 'em and lived to tell about it, didn't we? It's fine.
** Priestess has plenty of {{Flashback Echo}}es and [[ConditionedToAcceptHorror dissociative moments]] as a result of her horrific experiences. While she generally maintains [[ThePollyanna an aura of innocence]], even a full year after becoming an adventurer, most of her traumatic after-effects are milked for BlackComedy.

* SpecialEffectsFailure: It can get pretty jarring whenever Goblin Slayer switches between 2D and 3D animation in the anime, as the 3D model is incredibly stiff in its movements.

* AngstAversion: The rape from the first episode onward has been enough for some to swear off the series, even as it laters counterbalances it with more positive, optimistic elements.

Added DiffLines:

* NoSuchThingAsBadPublicity: It first came on fans radar due to the controversy over its use of rape. Those who checked it out found it no worse about it than [[Manga/{{Berserk}} other successful, acclaimed works]] and had enough going for it to make it one of the most prominent, successful anime of the season.

* MemeticBadass: Goblin Slayer; because he vows to purge every one of the critters from existence, fans would pit him against other goblins, goblin slayers and goblin-related characters from other media, joking that he would win every time, ranging from Rou in ''LightNovel/ReMonster'' (an over-powered character because he's still a goblin) to [[https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/442367912758607882/499259359319293962/43433403_10213111743449241_587853204595671040_n.png Mini-Gob (Goblin Mage)]] from ''VideoGame/GranblueFantasy'' (although [[BizarreSexualDimorphism looking like a human child]], she's still a goblin) and even the [[https://www.deviantart.com/ninjaink/art/The-Amazing-Goblin-Slayer-769704603 Green Goblin]] from ''ComicBook/{{Spider-Man}}''. That being said, he's also been consistently presented as getting [[MemeticLoser absolutely trounced]] by [[LightNovel/{{Overlord}} General Enri]].

* JerkassWoobie: Wizard Boy is incredibly rude and antagonistic especially to Priestess, but it's really, really hard to hold it against him given his whole motivation. * MemeticMolester: Among Western fans, Goblin Slayer's assertion of "[[TheGoldenRule being like a goblin to the goblins]]" is taken to its logical conclusion by showing him as contemplating/threatening revenge rape against female goblins from other series such as Haruna from ''LightNovel/TenseiShitaraSlimeDattaKen'', Wasabi from ''Goblin Is Very Strong'' and Gobumi-chan from ''Dungeon Nursery''. Similarly, Eastern fans may have Priestess capture and rape young goblins in a disturbing amount of {{Fanart}}.

** Amazon is able the gain a rather sizable fan base for [[AmazonianBeauty obvious]] [[MsFanservice reasons]], despite only being mentioned once so far in the light novel, appeared in just 1 episode of Season 1 in the anime, and had only few scenes in the manga. Many fans hope she would be given a larger role in a future story arc.

* InternetBackdraft:
** The first episode of the anime spawned online debates whether or not ''Goblin Slayer'' tries too hard to be dark and edgy, or whether or not the rape scene is deemed a fetish beyond the [[RapeAsDrama purpose]] it serves in the story; some detractors decried it for [[GratuitousRape even including]] rape at all. In turn, others called out these complaints as censorship. Notably, many involved in the debates (specifically those who hadn't read the original source) were surprised by the relatively LighterAndSofter sophomore episode.
** The debates came in concert with many viewers disturbed over the show's content after Website/{{Crunchyroll}} had mistakenly [[CriticalResearchFailure released it under a PG rating]] instead of an R; Crunchyroll would apologize and began including content warnings at the start of each episode. By comparison, the franchise in Japan is clearly understood to not be family-friendly (MoralGuardians barely batted an eye over the pilot), given the anime airs late at night when children are supposed to be sleeping.
** These debates about the rape scene going too far or not have noted that the manga and the anime were more explicit than the light novel: the former goes hard on the {{Ecchi}}, borderline {{Hentai}} in some panels, while the anime shows less skin, but greatly adds to the visceral horror/{{Squick}}iness by having audio and motion. This naturally led to further arguments over the way the scene was handled across different media.

** Oddly enough, it does work in a fashion to show just how robotic Goblin Slayer is compared to everyone else.
