** To be more specific, while it's still very popular in Japan, it's just one out of many different Visual Novels, and so has pretty much found its own niche. In other countries, where very few Visual Novels are translated, it's considered a classic and one of the greatest Visual Novels of all time.
** Has lessened over the years, as the West has received more Visual Novels in English combined with the fact that it's an older game now with a minimal initial English print and no digital rerelease, with newer fans being attracted to these more recent games.

Renamed one trope.

* OnceOriginalNowOverdone: At the time of its release, the game was one of the first plot twist heavy visual novels that used the conventions of the medium to its advantage to stand out amongst visual novels, which at-the-time were known almost entirely for romance titles, earning much praise from audiences. However, nowadays, where plot and twist-heavy visual novels are much more commonplace, and with many of its twists and story elements being replicated in many other visual novels, the game is considered by modern audiences to be a dull, slow-paced visual novel with twists that are far less innovative nowadays.
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: While not exactly a Scrappy, [[spoiler:Kaburaki]] was fairly unremarkable in the original game. The remake fixes this up by giving [[spoiler:him]] a lot more CharacterDevelopment and personality, an actual backstory, and a much closer relationship with [[spoiler:Takeshi.]]

** In addition to that, the translation is fairly lacking and has numerous issues from bringing the Japanese terms to more well-known English ones, such as changing meters to feet (thus losing the 17 meters ArcNumber aspect) and Urashima Taro to Rip van Winkle. This aged terribly because nowadays, VN localisations tend to keep the more Japanese aspects and simply provide additional text if it's meaningful and less commonly known. It also has numerous text mistakes in it, which is much less acceptable nowadays. While both of these were perfectly fine back in the day due to the absence of [=VNs=] and Americanisation being more common back then (even if it was dying off by the time it was translated), neither of these are acceptable now, with the latter standing out as particularly unacceptable.
*** This particular element was fixed in the Himmel fan patch released in 2018, which apart from making the game work better in modern [=PCs =]also fixes the text mistakes and the Americanised elements (such as the infamous translation from tuna sandwiches to chicken sandwiches).
