* InternetBackdraft: The way the game plays out, with high abundance of {{Quick Time Event}}s (despite probably being some of the best implemented [=QTE=]s out there) caused explosions of rage amongst the Hardcore market.

* HilariousInHindsight: As stated below in SpiritualLicensee, This game is considered to be the best single player Franchise/DragonBall game ever, thanks to its stellar setpeices. Creator/CyberConnect2 would go onto make its own Franchise/DragonBall game several years later.

** Some of GiantBomb's editors were even considering the game in the running for Game of the Year for 2012. That says something compared to it's earlier reception.
** Today, many fans and critics as a whole see the game as way ahead of it's time, in many ways being one of the games alongside VideoGame/TheWalkingDead as one of THE games that helped make Cinematic styled story telling in games take a major leap forward in how it interwines story with gameplay. Many have also claimed that the way it did QuickTimeEvents and ActionCommands as being something truly special, in that it never felt mundane or unfair like many games before it, and instead as feeling like a legit badass without giving the illusion you arent really doing anything.

* CultClassic: Slowly becoming one of these, due to relatively poor sales and mixed critical reaction. Not unlike ''{{VideoGame/Okami}}'', another Capcom-related game with poor sales that adapts a subset of AsianMythology. To put this in perspective, Asura has been a Top Ranking pick for the next in the ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom'' games since his games debut, despite it not being very popular at the time.

* CounterpartComparison: Lots of gamers compare Asura to [[VideoGame/GodOfWar Kratos]], since they're both insanely HotBlooded demigods who wage war on other gods for killing/kidnapping their family, and have a giant hate-on for anyone who hurts and brings grief to their daughters, or even girls who remind them of their daughters.
** Some do note the differences, with Asura being far more focused in his rage, sparing those that have nothing to do with the conflict.
** There have also been frequent comparisons to ''TabletopGame/{{Exalted}}'' among tabletop players.

Added DiffLines:

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: Sometimes, anger is the appropriate response to injustice, but only so long as it is not blind. For as angry as Asura gets, and he gets REALLY angry, he never once gets so angry that he loses sight of his true goals. Meanwhile, the villains, despite all being calm and composed, murdered the very people who worshiped them so as to stop the Gohma, having lost sight of their mission of protecting them.

%%* HolyShitQuotient: The Part IV: Nirvana story takes this to levels that not even Creator/PlatinumGames has tried to imitate, which says a lot. Episode 22 is one of the most Insane examples in Video Game history.

Episode 22 is the one of the most Insane examples in Video Game history.last [[spoiler:the being calling itself God that dwarfs galaxies]], there's plenty of reason to respond as thus.

Added DiffLines:

* MagnificentBastard: Deus was the leader of the Eight Guardian Generals fighting Vlitra and the Gohma, but believed Vlitra would one day be too powerful to stop. Assassinating TheEmperor, Deus framed Asura while having his wife murdered and his daughter Mithra--who could channel and amplify Mantra--kidnapped. After killing Asura, Deus renamed the Generals "The Seven Deities" and created a worldwide cult with few dissenters that believed being killed by the Deities would lead their souls to Nirvana. In truth, the souls were gathered to power the Karma Fortress’ Brahmastra to finally kill Vlitra. Trillions of souls were gathered over 12,000 years by the time Asura revived and eventually fought Deus. Only by working with his brother-in-law Yasha were they able to beat him. With absolute conviction in his power and his ideals while hating being Emperor and what he had done, Deus was Asura’s smartest enemy and one of his most sympathetic.

** Let's face it, it's one of the best Anime/DragonballZ games ever made.
** It's also seen as the best Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann game ever made, too, especially by Part IV: Nirvana.

** It might be the closest thing to a Literature/LordOfLight video game because of the similar combination of ScienceFiction, {{Fantasy}}, Hindu, and Buddhist themes.

* CompleteMonster: [[TheManBehindTheMan Chakravartin]], the BigBad of the entire story, is the [[GodIsEvil nigh-omnipotent creator-god of Gaea]] and a smug, cold, uncaring sociopath who attempts to destroy and recreate the world constantly because he considers it beneath him to keep the planet's denizens safe from harm. To this end, Chakravartin's attempts to find an heir resulted in his creation of the monstrous Gohma that have destroyed so many innocent lives so he can test the resolve of the Gods. This also resulted in the Gods using humans as slaves and harvesting their souls and Mantra for their own powers. All the death and destruction in the game, over the course of over 10,000 years are all the fault of Chakravartin, solely so he could find someone else to do his job for him, and would kill and restart everything until he got the result he wanted. Despite trying to claim himself as well-intentioned, Chakravartin's claims are shown to be the hollow words of a [[JerkassGods cruel egomaniac]], and once defied, the [[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist true monster he really is]] comes out.
