* FailedASpotCheck: After his friend Finn's BigEntrance at R-Evolution, Hideo confusedly replied, "Finn, something changed?" when asked what he thought about Finn's paint... while Finn, still painted, was standing right next to him. FridgeBrilliance kicks in when you realize that KENTA would be used to Prince Devitt's antics by this point in their careers.

* TheApprentice: Was one to Wrestling/KentaKobashi. Taiji Ishimori was one to him, at least symbolically, as there styles are not very similar. You could call KENTA a more general {{mentor|archetype}} than Taiji an apprentice.

Added DiffLines:

* AbortedArc: He has two storylines in NXT that ended abruptly as a result of him suffering from injuries that require him to receive surgeries and months-long recovery.
** Itami's mysterious attacker in 2015 was never revealed but it is presumed to be Kevin Owens when the NXT Champion walk passed him and mocked him.
** Itami and Austin Aries have a short feud in 2016 but nothing came out of it and Itami was again removed from telivised event after another injury.

** Finn Bálor made his NXT debut in 2016 helping Itami to fend of the Ascension. Few years later, Itami returned the favor by making his debut on RAW to help Balor against Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas. Few ''more'' years later, KENTA returned to Japan by going to NJPW and in only a few short months joining Prince Devitt's friends in the Bullet Club.
** When KENTA joined Bullet Club, who was there waiting for him? Former NOAH tag team partner Taiji Ishimori.

He actually dropped his last name and started writing his first name in all-capital letters upon his entrance to NOAH to avoid confusion with him.

* HateSink: He was already catching a fair bit of vitriol just joining NJPW as switching between Japanese Promotions is generally frowned upon as it is. Then he joined Wrestling/BulletClub by turning on Wrestling/KatsuyoriShibata and the hate grew exponentially. But THEN he [[spoiler: attacked Wrestling/TetsuyaNaito during his LIJ Roll Call right after he achieved his Double Champion dream in the Main Event of Wrestle Kingdom]] and...well, as commentator Kevin Kelly put it, "He is now the most hated wrestler in the entire world."

[[note]]What really didn't help was the timing, his debut coming 4 days before the 10th anniversary of Misawa's death. As a NOAH mainstay it was seen as a genuine betrayal by some of their fans.[[/note]] Then he joined Wrestling/BulletClub by turning on Wrestling/KatsuyoriShibata and the hate grew exponentially. * AnimalMotifs: In his post-WWE run, he's taken to using Smilodon fossils and teeth for his gear and merch.

* ApologeticAttacker: In 2019, he often apologizes for any especially smug or rude thing he says or does to his opponents, though he rarely ever means it.

* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Katsuyori Shibata in Japan. They have described themselves as twin souls.

* DelinquentHair: During the early-mid 2000s he buzzed his hair and bleached it blond, which wouldn't have been a big deal in American but was pretty delinquent in Japan. Later did the same thing upon his return to Japan shortly after joining Bullet Club, settling on a dead grey.
