* ParodyEpisode: The episode "25", an obvious PE of [[Series/TwentyFour 24]], right down to gratuitous lampshading of being able to travel between locations several miles apart within several seconds, random minor characters having all the right clues, and an overly-violent guest character called Jack.

* ToBeLawfulOrGood: Repomies is put into one when a corrupt businessman named Tauno Muikku bribes him with a sailboat. He then spends 3 days sailing with Routalempi on his new boat trying to decide whether or not to accept it before ultimately crashing it into a rock, allowing him to easily dismiss its value as a bribe and resume his investigations with a clear conscience.

* TrueArtIsIncomprehensible: In-universe. Embodied by Reetta Ruusu, whose idea of interpretive dance consists of titles such as "Vagina Dialogue", "The three rooms of manic depression" and "A placenta-eating bourgeoisie subjugates Jeanne d'Arc's lesbian twin sister", while the shows themselves consist of simply wandering around the stage while torturing oneself in lots of imaginative ways.

* NeverSpeakIllOfTheDead: Stretched to a breaking point in one pisode: a musician is announced to be dead and everyone save for Pöysti and the artist's brother (which naturally ends up with both of them getting in trouble) fondly reminisce about his past accomplishments, even though nobody can remember any of his songs beyond his single hit nor did they buy any of his records, and they probably wouldn't remember the one hit song either if it wasn't being played on the radio. In fact, when it turns out that [[spoiler: he faked his own death in a desperate attempt to make people remember him and buy at least SOME of his records so he wouldn't have to live in poverty]], he's immediately labeled as a self-absorbed dickhead who deserves to be forgotten immediately.

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: An unintentional example: In one episode, Routalempi manages to find out that Repomies caused a diplomatic incident back in the 70s. Repomies made up a name for the suspect while being questioned about anti-Soviet tendencies, and a man with that name [[RealFakeName actually existed and was employed in the police force]]. When this guy was then being questioned, he ended up describing another nonexistent man as well... one who matched the look of Repomies.

** The SpinOff adds another one on the other side of his room on the shape of a fish, next to a bowl he has.

* CouchGag: From Season 3 onwards. The exact object Routalempi is staring at changes with each episode, as does the pose Pöysti takes and an item central to the episode he might be holding when he lands on the hood of the car.

** Also minor character Veikko "Veikko" Salmelainen, man who made poisonous moonshine and managed to slip his bottles into Finnish liquor stores, causing all of them to be shut.

* {{Expy}}: Juhani Kontiovaara is an extremely blatant expy of Lauri Karhuvaara, an actual Finnish morning talk show host, right down to his name and apperance. In case someone still hadn't figured it out by the end of the series, he spells it out in the final episode.

* HauntedHouse: One of the SpinOff episodes revolves around one owned by Repomies. He's trying to sell it, but it seems to be haunted by sketch characters created by Finnish comedian [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesa-Matti_Loiri Vesa-Matti Loiri]].

** In another episode Helga turns out to be not as much of a man-hater she's portrayed as when she participates in a sting operation involving an elderly [[TheCasanova Casanova]].

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: An unintentional example: In one episode, Routalempi manages to find out that Repomies caused a diplomatic incident back in the 70s. Repomies made up a suspect while being questioned about anti-Soviet tendencies, and ended up describing a guy who actually existed. When this guy was questioned, he ended up describing a guy as well... one who matched the look of Repomies.

* RedScare: The [[MurderSimulators Murder Simulator]] game Pöysti plays tells him to kill President Obama "because he's a socialist". It proceeds to tell him, in an awkward voice, that it's [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial absolutely not because Obama's African-American]].

** Pöysti borrowing money from Neponen, or telling him to buy pizza.

* SanityBall: Bounced around something fierce. Neponen is usually the most rational one, but he's also the only one besides Pöysti himself who thinks Pöysti is a genius. Pöysti may be the sanest one in turn when cynicism is called for in the face of something stupid that people find compelling. Repomies likes to point out Pöysti's problems and denials to the point that he sometimes has to admit them, only to immediately throw the ball at his head and start talking complete nonsense. Routalempi is usually shown as pretty useless and clueless, but he's also probably the happiest person around in contrast to everyone else's attitude problems. Helga, on the other hand, isn't usually drawn into the same petty arguments the rest of the characters often find themselves in and often ignores anything that doesn't directly distract her from her work, but as a result, she generally has a single-track mind and if any solution to any given situation involves violence in any way, she'll take it without question.

* StagParty: One episode revolves around Neponen renewing his wedding vows, which naturally involves Pöysti having to arrange one for him with three of his friends. They have plenty of experience for throwing such parties and know that while the generic "get drunk, do something stupid and risky that ends in a brawl" party has been done over and over again, it's what the party will ultimately devolve into anyway, as better and more unique ideas are ridiculously expensive and all the cheaper ones aren't worth doing. Pöysti still doesn't believe them and comes up with several unique ideas, but all of them are a combination of something extremely dangerous, physically impossible, utterly illegal or unrealistically expensive, forcing him admit defeat and go with the default option.

* TrashTheSet: The very first episode of the SpinOff starts with the Pasila police station being demolished to make way for a bar, only for the station to be rebuilt with a new look by the end of the episode.

* YouCanPanicNow: An episode concerning bootlegged booze with poison in it eventually culminated in forbidding all alcohol in all of Finland. Kontiovaara hosts an expert on his show, and asks if they ought to panic now. The interviewee's response to his question is, "You get one fuckin' guess".
